Swan(sea) Song – personal research during my six years at Swansea ... and bey...
Technical requirements
1. Pitch for making the music video for Pressure by The 1975.
CONCEPT – IDEA FOR VIDEO OVERALL
2. THE SONG PRESSURE
• The song we chose was ‘pressure’ this song has a variety in tempo and pace throughout,
constantly changing allowing for a unique range in shots and creative editing styles. The
chorus itself has a very upbeat and fast but we can make for an interesting edit as if we
juxtapose it with dark scenes and mise-en-scene it will allow for the deeper meaning
within the lyrics to come through. The fact that the song itself is about a change in
pressure and it is constantly alternating in speed, we thought we could put across the
meaning of a change from urban busy life which could be the norm to a isolated urban/
rural lifestyle, cutting away from society.
• We chose the 1975 as they have a really youthful vibe to them through their criminalistics
ways, rebellious nature but also don’t care attitude which is portrayed in their songs lyrics.
• It also has interesting sounds which
create a trippy atmosphere and wavy feel
creating a fun and energetic mood.
3. Our target audience –
• Teenagers – 14-24 year olds.
• Mainly Females due to the
exploring nature of being
slightly rebellious and testing
the waters in all areas of life.
The overall feel for our video is that we are creating this escape from what is scene as normal and
create a view that that lifestyle is boring and so breaking rules, being sneaky and isolated is more
interesting. We want to also communicate how urban life is so uniform and no one else ‘does their
own thing’ they all work and sleep at the same times, go to the same places and neglect the same
things, all of which can be reversed in our video to show an alternate way of living.
Further more our key theme which is going to run throughout is the feeling of suffocation, isolation
from a relationship/ the majority.
4. The name, costume and overall image of our artist.
CONCEPT PART 2: STAR IMAGE
5. STAR IMAGE
• Our artist name is Anarchy. This name shows the artists lack of obedience to authority and how they
aren’t scared to be different and stand out from others. It also suggests some sort of underground, dark
movement.
• The overall star image is that the artists lead fairly ordinary, yet troubled lives, yet seem to make the
best out of a bad situation as they tell their emotional, dark story.
• The costume of the artist is comprised mainly of dull, neutral colours and clothing that is fairly ordinary
and urban.
• The costume of the artist will change corresponding with the different locations in the music videos. In
the urban location the costume includes black, distressed jeans, a plain white t-shirt and a black
leather jacket with black shoes or boots.
• In the park locations, the costume consists of a big parka jacket with a fur hood that the artist can wear
with the hood up and down in some shots.
• Another costume for the artist is a flannel shirt to show how they are ordinary people with a passion for
music.
Similar star
images include:
The 1975 Bastille
Chris will be our main
performer and
character that sets the
band image.
7. DURING PRODUCTION
Fig Rig
The fig rig will be used throughout production of the music
video, this is to create tracking shots needed for the video.
Fig rigs also allow for smoother and less shaky shots, the
use of hand held cameras are conventional of indie pop
music videos.
Tripod
Tripods are used in order to have fixed shots, this allows for smooth
pans that we are going to include in the music video. This can be
used in the shot where a car drives past us when the artists are
playing the instruments, and the shot cuts into the car with the artists.
Lights
Lights allow for us to get clearer shots, especially as we will be
producing the video during dusk and the golden hour.
DSLR Camera
The DSLR camera allows us to record in full HD 1080p, this
makes the video more visual for the audience and
professional, the camera is used for the entire video.
8. POST PRODUCTIONSoftware
The software that will be used in order to edit will be Adobe Premiere Pro, this is a popular editing
software used by many companies.
Colour correction will also be used in the post production of the music video, this is because we
can change the mood or atmosphere a shot is creating, by tweaking the colours of the shot using
Adobe Premiere Pro.
In post production, we will also change the speed of the shots by slowing them down, as well as
speeding them up, which is also achievable with the editing software. A shot that can be achieved
with the software is a wide shot, where the artist is in focus, however off centered to the right. The
artist will perform in shot -4 the speed of the song, however as everyone walks past the shot will be
sped up, making them extremely quick, however the artist playing in normal speed.
Hardware
We will be editing on an Apple iMac, this can run the software we are editing relatively well and makes it
an easier and less complex process in post production.
