Our Group Organized A Science Event
THE EVENT: Our group organized a science event titled "Nap15", a word play on the mathematical
notation of 'power'. Our objective was to dispel and debunk the myth that any duration of a
powernap is beneficial for increasing productivity and alertness. Instead, we sought to establish a
key message of a fifteen–minute optimal powernap time, which yielded recuperative effects without
any detrimental side–effects (Hayashi, Motoyoshi, & Hori, 2005).Our target audience was current
university students at the University of Western Australia (UWA) who are about to sit for the end–
of–semester examinations.
I, together with a few other classmates, was involved in planning and brainstorming ideas during the
pre–event stage. We were in charge of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We also wanted to exude an informal, cosy ambiance at our booth. Hence we came up with the idea
of bringing cushions, pillows and inflatable mattresses for visitors to play with and sit on, complete
with background music. Having interactive activities has been shown to increase satisfaction in
participants (Bultitude & Sardo, 2012). Atmosphere plays an important role in marketing, and a
cosy ambience helps to make people feel at ease and more receptive (Kotler, 1973).
On the actual day of the event, I was part of the Advertising and Recruiting Team, where were
dressed up in pyjamas and approached passers–by to answer a short question and visit our booth to
try our crossword puzzle challenge and find out more about power napping. I managed to bring in
about 20 people to our booth.
EFFECTIVE SCIENCE COMMUNICATION:
Effective science communication is essential because it allows scientists to communicate important
knowledge and beneficial findings in a clear, easily understood way to the masses (Burns, O
'Connor, & Stocklmayer, 2003). When scientists are able to translate technical jargon into plain
language for non–experts, they are able to dispel myths incorrect beliefs more effectively and
convincingly. This would increase erudition and quality of life in society as a whole, as people are
able to make sound, informed decisions. (Aguinis, Pierce, Bosco, Dalton, & Dalton, 2011)

Is America An Improbable Idea
An improbable idea statistically means something that is unlikely to happen. Some people could
describe America as an improbable idea because the abundance of freedom American citizens
possess could possibly cause chaos. Another reason why people might say that America is an
improbable idea is because, the idea of numerous groups of people coming together into one country
might be thought of as disorder but in reality, America succeeds through devastating events of
terrorism and common religious beliefs, for the majority of the people, despite being an "improbable
idea." America succeeds through common religious beliefs of citizens. In Lincoln's second inaugural
address, he states that the majority of American citizens "pray to the same God"

Sports Management : A Wide Array Of Job Opportunities And...
A Sports Management Degree offers a wide array of job opportunities and possibilities. Sports
management careers are popular due to the passion many people have for athletics and it allows
non–athletes to work within the sport field. One aspect to note is that there are 3 main segments
within this field. These include; sports performance, production, and promotion. Each offer unique
opportunities in the athletics field. A performance career would be a Recreation Worker, a
production career would be an University Athletic Director (A.D.), and a promotion career would be
a Sports Event Planner. Ultimately, after analyzing all 3 sectors, the production segment
distinguishes itself in terms of size and scope, growth trends, and it allows the non–athlete the most
opportunity to direct and guide University athletics. Size and Scope The size and scope of an
athletic director is much greater and vast than that of a recreation worker and a sports event planner.
First off, a Recreation Worker does have to manage different programs within a park, instruct
classes, and be able to administer first aid if necessary ("Recreation Worker," n.d.) However, they do
not deal with the same amount of stress Athletic Directors do. A.D.'s deal with more students and
responsibilities. An A.D. at a university can have over 1,000 athletes to deal with and manage. Not
only this, but an athletic director also has to oversee his staff. He has to ensure the team has
adequate funds for each department,

Planning a Swarovski Event
Concept
The objective of this event is to present the new delightful Swarovski collection of lightening
products, as the world leader in high–quality precision cut crystal has chosen this city to reveal its
marvelous pieces, which will be presented on September 16th of 2013 from 19.00 to 22.00 in the
Gallery of La Pelota, gathering approximately 300 guests.
The reason to make this important event happen on the September 16th is to project a fresh mood to
the guests, as it is a hot month and the weather this specific day will be suitable to represent said
mood, we need a gleaming, cool atmosphere, specially if usually people are tired of this month's
weather.

Abstract
Rainfall induced landslide hazards in Kenya represents a major challenge and remain an important
issue in disaster management especially in Kenya's central province region where the effects are
very common with the onset of El nin ̃o rains. The main aim of this study is to develop a rainfall
induced landslide probability map for Kenya's central province. In order to achieve this, process
based methods were used to map landslide areas using the following factors: slope, rainfall, land
cover change,Normalized DifferenceVegetation Index (NDVI)change, Curvature, watershed, and
soil characteristic including: type, texture, soil bulk density, Base Saturation, and Total Water
Available Distribution Map. The minimum conditions were set for each factor for landslide
occurrence. Slope stability mapping was done to determine the stable areas and thus derive the
probability of landslide occurrence. Statistical methods were then employed by means of weights of
evidence to achieve the probability weights for each factor considered to cause landslides. The
factors were then overlaid using the probability

The Event Management Industry Is An Ideal Location For The...

Economic
Grandezvous largely competes and collaborates in the event management industry, which provides
significant opportunities on a local, national and international scale.
Toronto acts as an ideal location for the company as the city serves as a business and political hub
for the province, and the country. In 2013 Toronto's Total GDP jumped too over $290 billion,
making up just over 15% of Canada's total GDP (Toronto Market Sizes, n.d). Of that total,
consumers spent almost $10 billion on hotels and catering in the city, and over $13 billion on leisure
and recreation (Toronto Market Sizes, n.d.). These numbers give an overarching view of the large
tourism and business communities which exist in Toronto, and how much room ... Show more

This figure likely includes the industry's whole span from mega events such as the Pan Am Games,
to small scale corporate and personal events. On nation level research firm IBIS World estimated
earlier this year that the Canadian event planning and trade show sectors would generate $1 billion
in revenue in 2014 (Trade Shows & Event ..., 2014). This marked an increase of 2.2% over the
previous year, however the company noted the industry's success was heavily based on corporate
spending and the state of the economy (Trade Shows & Event ..., 2014). This alludes to the fact that
many organizations likely see spending on event management as non–essential, meaning event
management firms may need to heavily stress their value proposition.
As stated, while Grandezvous does operate in the event management industry as a whole they are
largely focused on the promotion of events on web 2.0 applications. Therefore social media
engagement and advertising applies directly to the business in which they operate. Social media is
becoming a loud medium for advertising as more businesses recognize its potential reach. In a
survey of small businesses by BIA/Kelsey the majority of respondents said they used social media
as a means of advertising, with the average business putting 21.4% of their advertising budget
toward social media campaigns (Brooks, 2014). These businesses are

Questions: The Multiplicative Laws Of Probability
Question: 1(a)
Basic Laws of Probability
The additive law of probabilities
Probability is known as mutually exclusive events, The sum of Separate probabilities likely to be
one event occur or another.
Example:
Place 100 marbles in a box; 35 blue, 45 red, and 20 yellow.
P(blue)=.35 P(red)=.45 P(yellow)=.20
What is the probability of choosing either a red or a yellow marble from the box?
P(red or yellow) = P(red)+ P(yellow)
= .45+.20
= .65
The multiplicative law of probabilities
The multiplicative law of probability is defined as the probability of the joint occurrence of two or
more of the events which are independent events or the product of their individual probabilities.

The Convention And Event Planning Industry
"According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the industry will be adding at least 31,000 new jobs
between 2010 and 2020, a faster than–average growth rate of 44%" ("Fun"). The convention and
event–planning industry is not an industry that quickly comes to mind when one thinks of
employment groups. The studies shows that the convention and event–planning is time consuming
but this particular caterogy of business will later help the business industry. The process of creating
a successful convention takes time and effort. In the process of planning a convention, it must have
a vision and layout of the event. To organize an event one must first answer the questions of; who,
what, when, where, and why. This allows the event coordinator to openly express the principles for
any ceremony. Finding the who of the convention is fairly easy. Figure out who will be the audience
and who is on the program guide to run the Convention. As for what the convention will need to see
what kind of convention do the staff want to plan and the atmosphere for the audience and once they
leave what do the planners want them to take with them from the affair (Bourne) The next stop of
the planning process is when will the event happen. For instance, in the fall or summer. Also where
is the convention location? Find a decent place to feel safe at, to be able to have fun, and learn good
information. The last step is why plan the convention? In the article "Convention Planning Begins
Here", it says The

Disadvantages Of Event Driven Programming
Event Driven Programming:
Introduction:
There are several up–to–date programming languages are event driven, by means of this is a method
that works fine with computers using GUI operating systems such as Windows. This kind of
programming uses events, actions such as a clicking on a button or moving the mouse pointer over
an object as the activate to run the suitable code handler, although, as the old style of user interface
design, every so often called flow driven, only in progress from one point at the start of the code.
Event Driven programs are characteristically used with GUI operating systems, as events are created
when the operator clicks the mouse on a key button or other item.
Visual Basic Overview:
Visual Basic (VB) is a lot more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
VB does event–handling role for you, and in detail, the first time code will perform in VB is an
answer to such as an event!
The other main thought that VB has combined is the idea of an objects. Objects delivers a method to
connect code and data into a "set" in this method as to create handling and saving the code / data
more automatically. Visual Basic forms are objects, set menus are objects, and the so are the
inherent VB controls.
History and Advantages of Visual Basic:
Visual Basic was first presented in 1991 by Microsoft. In 1993, as VB version 3 completed itself
accessible, Visual Basic been the 1st priority of all windows–based programming languages.
Visual Basic always stay the superior language for the programmer because VB delivers more
defined code for a computer programmer than any other non–visual programming language.
In other programming languages, maximum programmers had to write the code for the whole
application user interface. In these days Windows, buttons, lists, Boxes and additional application
structures such as set menu were not built–in to the command line programming language.

In other words, what is best and most successful is to never go out of business– to have one event's
conclusion lead directly into the next event's preplanning. This is the best way for organizations to
continue to improve, reduce burnout of staff, and break the cycle of reinventing the wheel. In fact,
the more you follow planning as a continuum from one event to the next, the easier it gets to achieve
success. 1. Forming a team and assigning Tasks First, running an event alone can be very difficult,
so it's important to recruit others to help. Be sure the members of the organization are invested in
sponsoring the event. They will be more likely to follow through and participate in all the planning
details if they feel a sense of ownership for the event. Designate a chair person for the event to
coordinate and supervise the entire process. Be sure that all of your team to fill out all the proper
forms and obtain signatures. List the interests, abilities, and talents of the people in the group. For
instances, who like to plan, who are skilled at handling logistics (such as organizing parking,
purchasing supplies, and coordinating volunteers), and who can come up with original ideas for
event– and cause–related publicity. Provide opportunities for everyone to brainstorm ideas for the

Emily Dickinson : A Comparison Of Death
Emily Dickinson is one of Americas greatest and most original poets of all time. Over the span of
her lifetime she came to compose many poems that pertained to the topic of death, which made it
seem as if she had an almost morbid fascination with the subject. Her poems "I heard a Fly buzz –
when I died", and "Because I could not stop for death–" are some of the many poems that she wrote
on this ghastly topic. Even though the poems are somewhat similar with the main focus being death
from different viewpoints, I personally believe that "I heard a Fly buzz–when I died" was more of a
powerful and impacting poem for various reasons.
In Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for Death–" she mentions death as a person stopping for
the character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that death isn't serene or content as shown in "Because I could not stop for death–," but
that it's scary and lonely showing the realistic aspect of death and the weight that it carries.
In the last stanza of "I heard a Fly–when I died" we can see how Dickinson's approach to fatality has
a more serious, realistic, and cold tone "With Blue–uncertain stumbling Buzz–/Between the light–
and me–/And then the Windows failed–and then/I could not see to see." This is what I believe
makes this poem so powerful, the fact that it shows that death has no persona, and that it has no
calm or swift aftermath. I admire this piece by Dickinson because it shows us that death isn't gentle
nor compassionate; it doesn't give us nice endings with beautiful sceneries, but cold truths with flies
and imperfections to surround us as we part from a life we should've lived to the fullest.
In the end this poem impacts my life not because of what was said or written in "I heard a Fly–when
I died," but because of what happens before this poem takes place. This masterpiece by Dickinson
showed me that life is quick to end and that no force on earth can make a death a cheerful one.
Having been exposed to this morbid point of view it somewhat encourages the reader to push on to
do something meaningful in life seeing that in death there's nothing that can be done to leave an
impact on world left behind. Having experienced

4. Probability of recurrence:
In the present study, three stochastic models (Weibull, Gamma and Lognormal) have been used for
the estimation of probability of earthquake recurrence in Gujarat region of India which was rocked
by the great earthquake in 2001. The earthquake data of the region has only five recurrence intervals
of earthquakes magnitude ≥ 6 for the period of study, from 1819 to 2001, and is listed in Table 1.
The estimated mean, standard deviation and aperiodicity (equivalent to the coefficient of variation)
is 36.32, 12.49 years and 0.3438, respectively. The estimated model parameters of different

60) from the last great earthquake of 2001 in Figure 3(a,b,c) for Weibull, Gamma and Lognormal
models, respectively. These are the cumulative conditional probabilities that an earthquake will have
occurred at a time = t +  after the last earthquake if it has not occurred at a time t. It is seen from
these curves that the time difference between curves for different values of t at a particular
probability is smallest for the Wiebull, largest for the Lognormal and intermediate for the Gamma
model.
From the analysis we can also determine the waiting times, , to the next great earthquake
corresponding to a specified probability of occurrence as a function of the time since the last great
earthquake occurred, t. This dependence is given in Fig. 4 for all the models. The median waiting
times , p(/t)=0.5, to the next great earthquake as a function of the time t since the last great
earthquake is shown in this figure for all the models. It is clear from the figure that all the models
have median waiting time closely, though, the Weibull model estimates little more median waiting
time as compared to rest of the Gamma and Lognormal models. The maximum difference in the
median waiting times are 1.77, 2.67 and 0.90 years between the Wibull and Gamma, Wibull and
Lognormal, and Gamma and Lognormal models, respectively. All the three models have almost
same median waiting times of

Personal Narrative: The Joys Of Starting High School
Starting high school gave me the opportunity to meet new people, learn new things, and play new
sports. Growing up, my parents would let me join as many clubs as possible and play as many sports
as I could. Entering the 9th grade gave me the chance to try out for the track and field team. It was
something new for me. Since I was 5'7" and could jump fairly high my main event was jumping
hurdles. I also did the long jump and triple jump as well. Let's just say one day after jumping one of
my hurdles it did not end well at all. My first week at practice was very difficult for me, let's not
forget it was my freshman year. The conditioning week is mandatory to go to in the first week.

It was so many different teams there and so many new people that I have never seen before. I sat up
in the stands nervous, butterflies in my stomach, feeling like I would vomit at any minute. I watched
people warm up on the sidelines and on the track. Some girls in the upper class were already
running their practice jumps, so I joined them also. I lowered the hurdles and completed my leg
warm ups. I heard the girl on the speaker say "first call for 100–meter hurdles", I went and sat down
so I would not waste all of my energy and be worn out before my race. After the second and third
call for 100m hurdles, I went to the starting line. Since I was in the first heat I went first. The
starting line was my enemy at that moment. I got in a starting position and waited for the sound of
the gunshot. The coach from the other school got on the sideline and said, "Ready, Set, *pow*."
That was the moment when I knew I had to take off as fast as I could to beat everyone in the race.
My first few steps were powerful. I got right in front of my first hurdle and jumped over it perfectly.
I glanced to the left and right of me quickly and saw that there were no one by my side. I felt good
at this time. I kept running through all ten hurdles just fine, thinking that I had just won the race.
Everything changed when I got to the last hurdle, my leg had hit it. All I could hear was the loud
sound of the metal bar hitting the

The Importance Of Decision Making In Public Administration
Decision–making is very vital in the study of administration. Decision–making is the act of deciding
the best choice or alternative that brings success or advantage to a situation that will ensure
maximum benefits and least risk. Probability can be applied to decision–making in public
administration because it is possible to estimate the probability of occurrence of specific events. A
part of decision–making in relationship to public administration has to do with goals. The
probability of you meeting those goals depends on decision–making. For example a restaurant
owner has received more revenue on Thursdays than on any other day And less Revenue on
Saturdays than any other day. The owner has looked at everything that could have influenced his
sales. The owner realized that the only things that were different on Thursdays than any other day
was the chief special and the drink special. According to the receipts of the last four Thursdays the
probability that a customer orders a drink special is 60%. The probability that a customer orders the
chief special is 50%. The probability of them ordering both is 42%. This shows the restaurant owner
that Thursdays drink special should be considered on both Thursdays and Saturdays.
Effective decision–making is very important on how probability can be applied therefore effective
decision–making must be rational. As mentioned before, people who are deciding rationally are
attempting to reach goals in a systematic way. They make sure

Question 1:
Sample space: a list of all possible outcomes of the random experiment
Event: a collection or set of one or more simple events in a sample space
Probability of an event: the sum of the probabilities of the simple events
Random experiment: an action or process that leads to one of several possible outcomes
The first step in the process of assigning probabilities is to produce a list of the outcomes. The list of
outcomes must be exhaustive, which means all possible outcomes must be included. Additionally,
the outcomes must be mutually exclusive, which means no two outcomes can occur at the same
time.

My title of the exploration is "Analyzing of the Gambler's Fallacy". An analytical approach to the
Gambler's Fallacy, so that I can know how accurate is the probability of the Gambler's Fallacy.
According to the Investopedia, "When an individual erroneously believes that the onset of a certain
random event is less likely to happen following an event or a series of events. This line of thinking
is incorrect because past events do not change the probability that certain events will occur in the
future." Gambler's Fallacy is about our incorrect thinking of predicting what will happen next by the
events happened before or the previous probability. For example, I did a coin toss for 10 times and I
got 8 heads and 2 tails. According to the Gambler's Fallacy, it is less likely to have head because it is
frequently happened in the previous 10 trials. Although, the probability of having head or tail does
not matter with the previous probabilities of the 10 coin toss.
There is other fallacy related to Gambler's Fallacy and it is called "Hot–hand Fallacy". Hot–hand

Types And Scope Of Event
Type and Scope of Event Before planning a successful event, ask why is this event happening in the
first place? Does the event have a purpose? I love planning events, especially ones that raise money
for charities. Hosting a charity ball is a fantastic fundraiser because it will give supporters a fun and
glamourous night out, with a hint of elegance. Adults can dress up, enjoy delicious food, sip some
wine, and dance to some groovy music. As an event planner, I have been selected to plan a charity
ball to raise money for the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The goal of this event is to raise
money for such an important cause and bring hope in finding a cure for cancer. Charity for a Cure
will be one of the most talked about upcoming events in the Southern Illinois Area.
Capabilities
Charity for a Cure has the capability to be very successful and memorable. Many charity events
usually have more than one goal. The goals of this event are not only to raise money for an
important cause, but also to create a night that guests will never forget. Creating a memorable event
does not begin when people arrive and leave the event. Most often, the experience of an event
begins when someone hears about the event for the very first time. Charity for a Cure has the
capability to raise at least $25,000 for St. Jude's. Guests will pay for their tables, which will include
an entry fee and dinner. Most of the money raised will come from both auctions, as well as the

Drunkard's Walk By Mlodinow Summary
This is not a self–help book for alcoholics as one may assume. This is a book about probability,
chance, randomness and the roles they play in our lives and how we misinterpret the significance of
life from a small conversation to a huge economic setback and draw improper conclusions.
Consequently, successes and defeats in life are frequently accredited to obvious cases, when in
reality they are prompted by chance. The term drunkard's walk is a mathematical process that
essentially is a process of random meanderings, in which one or more variables change value in a
series of random steps. This is a good metaphor for our process of life because even though we may
think we have a direction, make plans, and work hard to get to where we are in ... Show more

For instance, when a coin is tossed once, the anticipated result of it landing on heads or tails is fifty
percent. You could toss the coin five times and the coin could land on heads five times in a row, but
the anticipated result remains 50 percent. The more times you toss the coin, the closer the
anticipated result of landing on heads or tails will be to fifty percent, although the coin might land
on the same side numerous times in a row, as the number of tosses increases, the percentage of times
the coin will land on heads will congregate close to fifty percent. How many trials we must
complete to obtain a result that's close to the real value at a certain confidence. When people see real
random series of coin tosses it looks weird to them because that is not what they are expecting.
Mlodinow says, the key to understanding this, is Gerolamo Cardano's method. To place the odds for
any event, we must construct a "sample space" of all the possible turn outs. If we were to use the
example of a woman having two children the first being a girl, the chance that the second child
would also be a girl is 50–50, correct? This is not correct. Cardano's method tells us that the
possibilities are girl–boy, boy–girl, and girl–girl. The chance that second child is also a girl is

We use speech recognizers to transform speech to text using grammar below.

Introduction. So, While Doing My Best To Effectively Research
Introduction
So, while doing my best to effectively research the subject enough to write a paper on it, it became
rather apparent that I was not mathematically inclined enough to fully understand how the law
actually works. However, I was able to understand that the law has gone through a very long period
of time where researchers and theorists have worked and worked to prove that there is some form of
proof that this is more than a random occurrence, but still haven't come up with any REAL answer
or proof. To be more clear, most of the literature about the history of the subject, stretches so far as
to say that people truly believed that Benford's Law was more of a strange coincidence, or an act of
god, rather than proof of statistical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The actual measures of probability were discovered by the creator of Benford's Law, Frank Benford,
when he decided to test a strange occurrence described by an American astronomer by the name of
Simon Newcomb. In 1881, Newcomb noticed that the earlier pages of a textbook containing
logarithm tables, mainly with the leading number of one, were significantly more worn that latter
pages. Benford decided to see if there actually was a statistical reasoning to this.
Is this Relevant?
Benford took Newcomb's findings to a new level and began taking roughly 20,229 different
observations from a varied range of areas all the way from residential addresses to death rates
throughout many different areas. It was through this that he placed a value on the probability of the
occurrence of certain numbers within groups of related numerical data, thus providing the values
displayed above. (Nigrini, 1999) Considering the relatedness of the groups of numbers, but not
exactly the same context, we can then assume that Benford's Law would hold true for any group of
related data.
Hiding within another document I poured myself into in order to better understand the subject, I
noticed another "coincidence." The article reiterated much of the background information regarding
the law and what it is for, but further down the line it provided another form of testing. It discussed
that for their

Mathematical Analysis of Point Scoring in Tennis
AIM OF THE EXPLORATION
Way of scoring in Tennis makes it a different from other games. The unique point is that the scoring
at the point level is not cumulative and hence, it is possible for a player scoring less points than her
or his opponent to win a match. In this portfolio, we will explore
 How to construct a probabilistic model for a tennis match in which the probabilities of winning
points are used to analyze the probability of winning matches.
 Charts, which will illustrate the consequences of this model and some numerical results are
highlighted to indicate how raw match data might be used to indicate how a player might improve
her or his game.
 The concept of a "big" shot is examined within this model and the possibility of a "big" shot
turning a losing game into a winning game is addressed. INTRODUCTION One of the advance
developments which supplements to television commentary for tennis matches is the computer
analysis of the results from charting of matches. Charting is the facility that the computer provides
to create, tabulate, and cross–referencing data from the charts has made information easily
accessible. The computer can make use of the charts to provide information on the progress of a
match or data for analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of a player over several or many
matches. The basic question that follows is "How players can put the data to their best use?" "How
well does a player have to play to get a big point?"

Roulette Chapter 3.1 Summary
Chapter 3.1: History of Probability . Roulette Roulette is a game where a person plays not against
another person but against a wheel. Roulette has thirty–eight compartments where 1–36 are
numbered and are colored either black or red. The remaining two are numbered 0 and 00 and are
colored green. People place their bets by placing their chips into their spots on the roulette table.
Then the dealer spins the wheel and drops a ball onto that spinning wheel and then the ball stops in
one of the compartments. The compartment that the ball lands in is the compartment on the table
that wins as well. Example: If someone bets $10 worth of chips onto number 8 compartment on the
roulette compartment and then the ball lands on the number 8 slot on the wheel then the person gets
$10 35 = $350. The reason that you multiple it by 35 is due to the 35 to 1 odds of landing on space

Conditional Probability For Statisticians
Conditional Probability
Huafeng Zhang
I. Introduction
Everyone in a way use conditional probability even if they don't realize the science behind it. Non–
statisticians use conditional probability without recognizing it mostly when they make decisions or
judgments, for example they will be less likely to lend money to people who borrowed his money
but haven 't returned the money back. Statisticians think of conditional probability in both logical
and quantitative way.
II. Conditional Probability for Statisticians
For statisticians, conditional probability is everywhere. They will strictly define the events before
computing the conditional probability and use the properties or Bayes' theorem to find the
conditional probability.
Statisticians understand that conditional probability derives from the concept of probability.
Probability is a number between zero and one, which measures the likelihood that an event will
occur. The bigger the probability is, the more likely this event is going to happen. The conditional
probability of event A happens given that event B occurs can be written as P(A|B)=(P(A∩B))/(P(B))
where P(A∩B) is the probability that both events A and B happen, P(B) is the probability that event
B occurs. For example,in order to test if the athletes actually use steroid given the test results are
positive, assuming we know the probability that the test results are positive is 0.6 and the probability
that the test results are positive and the athletes use steroid

Benford's Law And Where It Came From?
Benford's Law and where it came from?
According to Oxford dictionary, Benford's law is the principle that in any large, randomly produced
set of natural numbers, such as tables of logarithms or corporate sales statistics, around 30 percent
will begin with the digit 1, 18 percent with 2, and so on, with the smallest percentage beginning
with 9. The law is applied in analyzing the validity of statistics and financial records.
Benford's law is a mathematical theory of leading digits that was discovered by American
astronomer Simon Newcomb. In 1881 he have noticed, that the pages of logarithms book beginning
with number 1 were more worn than pages dealing with higher digits. In comparison to pages
starting with 1, they looked more clean and new. He calculated that the probability that a number
has any particular non–zero first digit is:
P(d)=Log10(1+1/d)
Where: d is a number 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 or 9
And P is the probability.
Using that formula he concluded that all digits don't appear with equal frequency but number 1
appear as the first digit about 30 % of the time, as supposed to digit 9 that appear less than 5 % of
the time. However, he didn't provide any theoretical explanation for his phenomena he described
and it was son forgotten. In 1938, Frank Benford, a physicist, also noticed nonuniform way of digit
distribution. He attempted to test his hypothesis by collecting and analyzing his data. After having

positives for diagnostic tests. People must know how false positive rate compares to the true
prevalence of disease, and when assessing test results need to know if u, r in a high–risk group.
From the event, it is obvious that the fallacy ignores false positive rate.

The Holocaust Is Remembered As One Of The Most Vicious Events
The Holocaust is remembered as one of the most vicious events in history. We have gotten the
chance to try and comprehend the pain that such evil genocide left on many, through those who
witnessed it. Who sorely revive it, in an attempt to make sure that the world never forgets the
millions of Jews that were unjustly tortured and murdered. It is sad to realize that many of these
witnesses are getting older, and that many of them have died. Among them was author, professor,
and activist Elizer "Elie" Wiesel, who just passed away a few days ago. As a professor he influenced
many, but through his novels he managed to give his readers a glimpse of the horrors he survived
during the Holocaust. He was a peaceful man who fought for human rights and won the Nobel
Peace Prize in 1986 (Almasy, Sanchez). Many say that he was not only a leader for the Jewish
community, but for all mankind (qtd. in Maslin, Correal). Wiesel became chairman of the
Presidential Commission on the Holocaust, in 1978; thanks to his hard work the United States
Holocaust Memorial Museum was established in Washington (Almasy, Sanchez). Nonetheless, his
legacy will remain alive through his precious memoirs. I think that the main point of Wiesel's novel,
Night, is to understand what Wiesel believed the Jews had lost during the Holocaust, specifically in
the concentration camps. He describes multiple moments in which fear had completely changed him
and the world around him. According to Wiesel, he felt as if the

UK Types of event Corporate hospitality Corporate hospitality is a private event held by
corporations and businesses to entertain and build good relationships with their staff and clients and
to encourage new businesses. For example a company hires a venue such as the Hinitze Hall in the
Natural History Museum which offers galleries for a range of evening events with catering facilities
and staff which will be used only by the business team. Team–building events Team building events
are events in which members of a business bond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These events are not always open to the public but aim to generate press coverage and publicity.
Music events and festivals range from popular music concerts to classical performances. This
includes festival such as Reading and Leeds. The music magazine NME provides information about
all the upcoming festivals and concerts on their website. Wedding fairs are often held in hotels
because it is easier for customers to access the wedding related goods and services when they are
put into one place. Reunions are popular events which help people to get in touch with friends they
have not seen and spoken for many years. Reunions are held in venues with hospitality facilities like
any other event. An example is the Friends Reunited website. Types of conference Political
conferences Political conferences are party political conferences which are held every year for a
general meeting of a political party. The conferences are attended by certain delegates who represent
the party membership. In most political parties, the party conference is the highest decision–making
body of the organisation, tasked with electing or nominating the party's leaders or leadership bodies.
Popular venues which are hired for political conferences include Brighton, Blackpool or
Bournemouth which mainly rely on conference business outside the summer holiday season so such
conferences provide significant revenue.

Our Group Organized A Science Event

  • 1. Our Group Organized A Science Event THE EVENT: Our group organized a science event titled "Nap15", a word play on the mathematical notation of 'power'. Our objective was to dispel and debunk the myth that any duration of a powernap is beneficial for increasing productivity and alertness. Instead, we sought to establish a key message of a fifteen–minute optimal powernap time, which yielded recuperative effects without any detrimental side–effects (Hayashi, Motoyoshi, & Hori, 2005).Our target audience was current university students at the University of Western Australia (UWA) who are about to sit for the end– of–semester examinations. I, together with a few other classmates, was involved in planning and brainstorming ideas during the pre–event stage. We were in charge of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We also wanted to exude an informal, cosy ambiance at our booth. Hence we came up with the idea of bringing cushions, pillows and inflatable mattresses for visitors to play with and sit on, complete with background music. Having interactive activities has been shown to increase satisfaction in participants (Bultitude & Sardo, 2012). Atmosphere plays an important role in marketing, and a cosy ambience helps to make people feel at ease and more receptive (Kotler, 1973). On the actual day of the event, I was part of the Advertising and Recruiting Team, where were dressed up in pyjamas and approached passers–by to answer a short question and visit our booth to try our crossword puzzle challenge and find out more about power napping. I managed to bring in about 20 people to our booth. EFFECTIVE SCIENCE COMMUNICATION: Effective science communication is essential because it allows scientists to communicate important knowledge and beneficial findings in a clear, easily understood way to the masses (Burns, O 'Connor, & Stocklmayer, 2003). When scientists are able to translate technical jargon into plain language for non–experts, they are able to dispel myths incorrect beliefs more effectively and convincingly. This would increase erudition and quality of life in society as a whole, as people are able to make sound, informed decisions. (Aguinis, Pierce, Bosco, Dalton, & Dalton, 2011) Good science ... • 2. Is America An Improbable Idea An improbable idea statistically means something that is unlikely to happen. Some people could describe America as an improbable idea because the abundance of freedom American citizens possess could possibly cause chaos. Another reason why people might say that America is an improbable idea is because, the idea of numerous groups of people coming together into one country might be thought of as disorder but in reality, America succeeds through devastating events of terrorism and common religious beliefs, for the majority of the people, despite being an "improbable idea." America succeeds through common religious beliefs of citizens. In Lincoln's second inaugural address, he states that the majority of American citizens "pray to the same God" ... • 3. Sports Management : A Wide Array Of Job Opportunities And... A Sports Management Degree offers a wide array of job opportunities and possibilities. Sports management careers are popular due to the passion many people have for athletics and it allows non–athletes to work within the sport field. One aspect to note is that there are 3 main segments within this field. These include; sports performance, production, and promotion. Each offer unique opportunities in the athletics field. A performance career would be a Recreation Worker, a production career would be an University Athletic Director (A.D.), and a promotion career would be a Sports Event Planner. Ultimately, after analyzing all 3 sectors, the production segment distinguishes itself in terms of size and scope, growth trends, and it allows the non–athlete the most opportunity to direct and guide University athletics. Size and Scope The size and scope of an athletic director is much greater and vast than that of a recreation worker and a sports event planner. First off, a Recreation Worker does have to manage different programs within a park, instruct classes, and be able to administer first aid if necessary ("Recreation Worker," n.d.) However, they do not deal with the same amount of stress Athletic Directors do. A.D.'s deal with more students and responsibilities. An A.D. at a university can have over 1,000 athletes to deal with and manage. Not only this, but an athletic director also has to oversee his staff. He has to ensure the team has adequate funds for each department, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Waithaka, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Department of Geomatic Engineering & Geospatial Information Systems. P.o. Mwaniki, Email: mercimwaniki@yahoo.com Abstract Rainfall induced landslide hazards in Kenya represents a major challenge and remain an important issue in disaster management especially in Kenya's central province region where the effects are very common with the onset of El nin ̃o rains. The main aim of this study is to develop a rainfall induced landslide probability map for Kenya's central province. In order to achieve this, process based methods were used to map landslide areas using the following factors: slope, rainfall, land cover change,Normalized DifferenceVegetation Index (NDVI)change, Curvature, watershed, and soil characteristic including: type, texture, soil bulk density, Base Saturation, and Total Water Available Distribution Map. The minimum conditions were set for each factor for landslide occurrence. Slope stability mapping was done to determine the stable areas and thus derive the probability of landslide occurrence. Statistical methods were then employed by means of weights of evidence to achieve the probability weights for each factor considered to cause landslides. The factors were then overlaid using the probability ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Event Management Industry Is An Ideal Location For The... onment Economic Grandezvous largely competes and collaborates in the event management industry, which provides significant opportunities on a local, national and international scale. Toronto acts as an ideal location for the company as the city serves as a business and political hub for the province, and the country. In 2013 Toronto's Total GDP jumped too over $290 billion, making up just over 15% of Canada's total GDP (Toronto Market Sizes, n.d). Of that total, consumers spent almost $10 billion on hotels and catering in the city, and over $13 billion on leisure and recreation (Toronto Market Sizes, n.d.). These numbers give an overarching view of the large tourism and business communities which exist in Toronto, and how much room ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This figure likely includes the industry's whole span from mega events such as the Pan Am Games, to small scale corporate and personal events. On nation level research firm IBIS World estimated earlier this year that the Canadian event planning and trade show sectors would generate $1 billion in revenue in 2014 (Trade Shows & Event ..., 2014). This marked an increase of 2.2% over the previous year, however the company noted the industry's success was heavily based on corporate spending and the state of the economy (Trade Shows & Event ..., 2014). This alludes to the fact that many organizations likely see spending on event management as non–essential, meaning event management firms may need to heavily stress their value proposition. As stated, while Grandezvous does operate in the event management industry as a whole they are largely focused on the promotion of events on web 2.0 applications. Therefore social media engagement and advertising applies directly to the business in which they operate. Social media is becoming a loud medium for advertising as more businesses recognize its potential reach. In a survey of small businesses by BIA/Kelsey the majority of respondents said they used social media as a means of advertising, with the average business putting 21.4% of their advertising budget toward social media campaigns (Brooks, 2014). The Convention And Event Planning Industry "According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the industry will be adding at least 31,000 new jobs between 2010 and 2020, a faster than–average growth rate of 44%" ("Fun"). The convention and event–planning industry is not an industry that quickly comes to mind when one thinks of employment groups. The studies shows that the convention and event–planning is time consuming but this particular caterogy of business will later help the business industry. The process of creating a successful convention takes time and effort. In the process of planning a convention, it must have a vision and layout of the event. To organize an event one must first answer the questions of; who, what, when, where, and why. This allows the event coordinator to openly express the principles for any ceremony. Finding the who of the convention is fairly easy. Figure out who will be the audience and who is on the program guide to run the Convention. As for what the convention will need to see what kind of convention do the staff want to plan and the atmosphere for the audience and once they leave what do the planners want them to take with them from the affair (Bourne) The next stop of the planning process is when will the event happen. For instance, in the fall or summer. Also where is the convention location? Find a decent place to feel safe at, to be able to have fun, and learn good information. Visual Basic forms are objects, set menus are objects, and the so are the inherent VB controls. History and Advantages of Visual Basic: Visual Basic was first presented in 1991 by Microsoft. In fact, the more you follow planning as a continuum from one event to the next, the easier it gets to achieve success. 1. • 14. Emily Dickinson : A Comparison Of Death Emily Dickinson is one of Americas greatest and most original poets of all time. Over the span of her lifetime she came to compose many poems that pertained to the topic of death, which made it seem as if she had an almost morbid fascination with the subject. Her poems "I heard a Fly buzz – when I died", and "Because I could not stop for death–" are some of the many poems that she wrote on this ghastly topic. Even though the poems are somewhat similar with the main focus being death from different viewpoints, I personally believe that "I heard a Fly buzz–when I died" was more of a powerful and impacting poem for various reasons. In Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for Death–" she mentions death as a person stopping for the character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows that death isn't serene or content as shown in "Because I could not stop for death–," but that it's scary and lonely showing the realistic aspect of death and the weight that it carries. In the last stanza of "I heard a Fly–when I died" we can see how Dickinson's approach to fatality has a more serious, realistic, and cold tone "With Blue–uncertain stumbling Buzz–/Between the light– and me–/And then the Windows failed–and then/I could not see to see." This is what I believe makes this poem so powerful, the fact that it shows that death has no persona, and that it has no calm or swift aftermath. I admire this piece by Dickinson because it shows us that death isn't gentle nor compassionate; it doesn't give us nice endings with beautiful sceneries, but cold truths with flies and imperfections to surround us as we part from a life we should've lived to the fullest. In the end this poem impacts my life not because of what was said or written in "I heard a Fly–when I died," but because of what happens before this poem takes place. This masterpiece by Dickinson showed me that life is quick to end and that no force on earth can make a death a cheerful one. Having been exposed to this morbid point of view it somewhat encourages the reader to push on to do something meaningful in life seeing that in death there's nothing that can be done to leave an impact on world left behind. These are the cumulative conditional probabilities that an earthquake will have occurred at a time = t +  after the last earthquake if it has not occurred at a time t. It is seen from these curves that the time difference between curves for different values of t at a particular probability is smallest for the Wiebull, largest for the Lognormal and intermediate for the Gamma model. From the analysis we can also determine the waiting times, , to the next great earthquake corresponding to a specified probability of occurrence as a function of the time since the last great earthquake occurred, t. This dependence is given in Fig. 4 for all the models. The median waiting times , p(/t)=0.5, to the next great earthquake as a function of the time t since the last great earthquake is shown in this figure for all the models. It is clear from the figure that all the models have median waiting time closely, though, the Weibull model estimates little more median waiting time as compared to rest of the Gamma and Lognormal models. • 23. The Importance Of Decision Making In Public Administration Decision–making is very vital in the study of administration. Decision–making is the act of deciding the best choice or alternative that brings success or advantage to a situation that will ensure maximum benefits and least risk. Probability can be applied to decision–making in public administration because it is possible to estimate the probability of occurrence of specific events. A part of decision–making in relationship to public administration has to do with goals. The probability of you meeting those goals depends on decision–making. For example a restaurant owner has received more revenue on Thursdays than on any other day And less Revenue on Saturdays than any other day. The owner has looked at everything that could have influenced his sales. The owner realized that the only things that were different on Thursdays than any other day was the chief special and the drink special. According to the receipts of the last four Thursdays the probability that a customer orders a drink special is 60%. The probability that a customer orders the chief special is 50%. The probability of them ordering both is 42%. This shows the restaurant owner that Thursdays drink special should be considered on both Thursdays and Saturdays. Effective decision–making is very important on how probability can be applied therefore effective decision–making must be rational. As mentioned before, people who are deciding rationally are attempting to reach goals in a systematic way. They make sure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An analytical approach to the Gambler's Fallacy, so that I can know how accurate is the probability of the Gambler's Fallacy. According to the Investopedia, "When an individual erroneously believes that the onset of a certain random event is less likely to happen following an event or a series of events. This line of thinking is incorrect because past events do not change the probability that certain events will occur in the future." Gambler's Fallacy is about our incorrect thinking of predicting what will happen next by the events happened before or the previous probability. For example, I did a coin toss for 10 times and I got 8 heads and 2 tails. According to the Gambler's Fallacy, it is less likely to have head because it is frequently happened in the previous 10 trials. • 29. Types And Scope Of Event Type and Scope of Event Before planning a successful event, ask why is this event happening in the first place? Does the event have a purpose? I love planning events, especially ones that raise money for charities. Hosting a charity ball is a fantastic fundraiser because it will give supporters a fun and glamourous night out, with a hint of elegance. Adults can dress up, enjoy delicious food, sip some wine, and dance to some groovy music. As an event planner, I have been selected to plan a charity ball to raise money for the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The goal of this event is to raise money for such an important cause and bring hope in finding a cure for cancer. Charity for a Cure will be one of the most talked about upcoming events in the Southern Illinois Area. Capabilities Charity for a Cure has the capability to be very successful and memorable. Many charity events usually have more than one goal. The goals of this event are not only to raise money for an important cause, but also to create a night that guests will never forget. Creating a memorable event does not begin when people arrive and leave the event. Most often, the experience of an event begins when someone hears about the event for the very first time. Charity for a Cure has the capability to raise at least $25,000 for St. Jude's. Guests will pay for their tables, which will include an entry fee and dinner. Most of the money raised will come from both auctions, as well as the support of local ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Drunkard's Walk By Mlodinow Summary This is not a self–help book for alcoholics as one may assume. This is a book about probability, chance, randomness and the roles they play in our lives and how we misinterpret the significance of life from a small conversation to a huge economic setback and draw improper conclusions. Consequently, successes and defeats in life are frequently accredited to obvious cases, when in reality they are prompted by chance. The term drunkard's walk is a mathematical process that essentially is a process of random meanderings, in which one or more variables change value in a series of random steps. This is a good metaphor for our process of life because even though we may think we have a direction, make plans, and work hard to get to where we are in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, when a coin is tossed once, the anticipated result of it landing on heads or tails is fifty percent. You could toss the coin five times and the coin could land on heads five times in a row, but the anticipated result remains 50 percent. The more times you toss the coin, the closer the anticipated result of landing on heads or tails will be to fifty percent, although the coin might land on the same side numerous times in a row, as the number of tosses increases, the percentage of times the coin will land on heads will congregate close to fifty percent. How many trials we must complete to obtain a result that's close to the real value at a certain confidence. When people see real random series of coin tosses it looks weird to them because that is not what they are expecting. Mlodinow says, the key to understanding this, is Gerolamo Cardano's method. To place the odds for any event, we must construct a "sample space" of all the possible turn outs. If we were to use the example of a woman having two children the first being a girl, the chance that the second child would also be a girl is 50–50, correct? This is not correct. Cardano's method tells us that the possibilities are girl–boy, boy–girl, and girl–girl. The chance that second child is also a girl is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Introduction. So, While Doing My Best To Effectively Research Introduction So, while doing my best to effectively research the subject enough to write a paper on it, it became rather apparent that I was not mathematically inclined enough to fully understand how the law actually works. However, I was able to understand that the law has gone through a very long period of time where researchers and theorists have worked and worked to prove that there is some form of proof that this is more than a random occurrence, but still haven't come up with any REAL answer or proof. To be more clear, most of the literature about the history of the subject, stretches so far as to say that people truly believed that Benford's Law was more of a strange coincidence, or an act of god, rather than proof of statistical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The actual measures of probability were discovered by the creator of Benford's Law, Frank Benford, when he decided to test a strange occurrence described by an American astronomer by the name of Simon Newcomb. In 1881, Newcomb noticed that the earlier pages of a textbook containing logarithm tables, mainly with the leading number of one, were significantly more worn that latter pages. Benford decided to see if there actually was a statistical reasoning to this. Is this Relevant? Benford took Newcomb's findings to a new level and began taking roughly 20,229 different observations from a varied range of areas all the way from residential addresses to death rates throughout many different areas. It was through this that he placed a value on the probability of the occurrence of certain numbers within groups of related numerical data, thus providing the values displayed above. (Nigrini, 1999) Considering the relatedness of the groups of numbers, but not exactly the same context, we can then assume that Benford's Law would hold true for any group of related data. Hiding within another document I poured myself into in order to better understand the subject, I noticed another "coincidence." The article reiterated much of the background information regarding the law and what it is for, but further down the line it provided another form of testing. It discussed that for their ... The unique point is that the scoring at the point level is not cumulative and hence, it is possible for a player scoring less points than her or his opponent to win a match. In this portfolio, we will explore  How to construct a probabilistic model for a tennis match in which the probabilities of winning points are used to analyze the probability of winning matches.  Charts, which will illustrate the consequences of this model and some numerical results are highlighted to indicate how raw match data might be used to indicate how a player might improve her or his game.  The concept of a "big" shot is examined within this model and the possibility of a "big" shot turning a losing game into a winning game is addressed. INTRODUCTION One of the advance developments which supplements to television commentary for tennis matches is the computer analysis of the results from charting of matches. Charting is the facility that the computer provides to create, tabulate, and cross–referencing data from the charts has made information easily accessible. The computer can make use of the charts to provide information on the progress of a match or data for analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of a player over several or many matches. • 37. Roulette Chapter 3.1 Summary Chapter 3.1: History of Probability . Roulette Roulette is a game where a person plays not against another person but against a wheel. Roulette has thirty–eight compartments where 1–36 are numbered and are colored either black or red. The remaining two are numbered 0 and 00 and are colored green. People place their bets by placing their chips into their spots on the roulette table. Then the dealer spins the wheel and drops a ball onto that spinning wheel and then the ball stops in one of the compartments. The compartment that the ball lands in is the compartment on the table that wins as well. Example: If someone bets $10 worth of chips onto number 8 compartment on the roulette compartment and then the ball lands on the number 8 slot on the wheel then the person gets $10 35 = $350. The reason that you multiple it by 35 is due to the 35 to 1 odds of landing on space 8. Cards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 38. Conditional Probability For Statisticians Conditional Probability Huafeng Zhang I. Introduction Everyone in a way use conditional probability even if they don't realize the science behind it. Non– statisticians use conditional probability without recognizing it mostly when they make decisions or judgments, for example they will be less likely to lend money to people who borrowed his money but haven 't returned the money back. Statisticians think of conditional probability in both logical and quantitative way. II. Conditional Probability for Statisticians For statisticians, conditional probability is everywhere. They will strictly define the events before computing the conditional probability and use the properties or Bayes' theorem to find the conditional probability. Statisticians understand that conditional probability derives from the concept of probability. Probability is a number between zero and one, which measures the likelihood that an event will occur. The bigger the probability is, the more likely this event is going to happen. The conditional probability of event A happens given that event B occurs can be written as P(A|B)=(P(A∩B))/(P(B)) where P(A∩B) is the probability that both events A and B happen, P(B) is the probability that event B occurs. For example,in order to test if the athletes actually use steroid given the test results are positive, assuming we know the probability that the test results are positive is 0.6 and the probability that the test results are positive and the athletes use steroid ... • 41. Benford's Law And Where It Came From? Benford's Law and where it came from? According to Oxford dictionary, Benford's law is the principle that in any large, randomly produced set of natural numbers, such as tables of logarithms or corporate sales statistics, around 30 percent will begin with the digit 1, 18 percent with 2, and so on, with the smallest percentage beginning with 9. The law is applied in analyzing the validity of statistics and financial records. Benford's law is a mathematical theory of leading digits that was discovered by American astronomer Simon Newcomb. In 1881 he have noticed, that the pages of logarithms book beginning with number 1 were more worn than pages dealing with higher digits. In comparison to pages starting with 1, they looked more clean and new. He calculated that the probability that a number has any particular non–zero first digit is: P(d)=Log10(1+1/d) Where: d is a number 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 or 9 And P is the probability. Using that formula he concluded that all digits don't appear with equal frequency but number 1 appear as the first digit about 30 % of the time, as supposed to digit 9 that appear less than 5 % of the time. However, he didn't provide any theoretical explanation for his phenomena he described and it was son forgotten. In 1938, Frank Benford, a physicist, also noticed nonuniform way of digit distribution. It is sad to realize that many of these witnesses are getting older, and that many of them have died. Among them was author, professor, and activist Elizer "Elie" Wiesel, who just passed away a few days ago. As a professor he influenced many, but through his novels he managed to give his readers a glimpse of the horrors he survived during the Holocaust. He was a peaceful man who fought for human rights and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 (Almasy, Sanchez). Many say that he was not only a leader for the Jewish community, but for all mankind (qtd. in Maslin, Correal). Wiesel became chairman of the Presidential Commission on the Holocaust, in 1978; thanks to his hard work the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum was established in Washington (Almasy, Sanchez). Nonetheless, his legacy will remain alive through his precious memoirs.
