Virtual World
Virtual World
 The emergence of social networks such as MySpace and Facebook, has
resulted in new ways and channels for people to communicate and
collaborate.
 The graphical, three-dimensional technology of Virtual World create a
new stage of collaboration, communication with an even higher level of
interaction and complexity.
Virtual World
 A persistent online environment that allows users to interact wit
h one another and an artificial world
through an agent in that world. The online part allows user with
Internet access to log on to the Virtual World from any location.
 The persistent part means the world continues to exist as a single
instance whether a specific individual is logged on to the system. This
means that while you are logged out of a virtual world, no one will see
you but activity will go on around you and you will be in the same
place you where when you log back on.
Virtual learning Environment(VLE)
 Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) is a platform with the aim of supporting learning and
teaching activities across the internet.
 A VLE is an education system based on web that models the real world education with virtual
classes test etc…
 A virtual learning environment (VLE) allows online interactions of various kinds to take place
between tutors and learners making use of computer and internet .
 Typically Web-based, VLEs provide an integrated set of internet tools, enable easy upload of
materials and offer a consistent look and feel that can be customized by the user.
Advantages of Virtual learning
Accessible
A virtual classroom is accessible to anyone who has a computer, tablet or smartphone.
Affordable
The costs involved in setting up a learning management system and virtual classroom compare
extremely favourably with the cost of expanding into additional physical classrooms.
Effective
Presenting teaching materials in this way allows students to have greater control over how and when
they access them
Disadvantages of Virtual learning
 Learners with low motivation and bad study habits can easily fall behind
 Hands-on or lab work is difficult to simulate in a virtual classroom
 Lack of student customization
 Lack of personal community and connection
 Lack of quality assessment and feedback, which may hinder learning
 Underutilized talents and facilities
 Students may feel isolated from classmates or instructor
