2. Learning outcomes
• Clarifies his concept where in the world did India
falls
• Should have clear concept over the international
boarders of India
• Should have clear concept over physical map of
India
• Should know the Geological actions which took
place over Geological Time Period and are
responsible in shaping Indian sub continent.
3. Learning outcomes
• Should know the concept of plate tectonic and
mountain building and can differentiate between
old mountains and new young folded mountains
• Should have clear view on major physical
divisions of India
• Should know the extent ,height, major and minor
mountain passes and mountain peaks of
Himalayas and trans Himalayan Mountain ranges
, and their importance in terms of climate and
drainage of this region
4. Learning outcomes
• Should have clear concept of Northern
Mountains in terms of agriculture and
economy and population of India with physical
formation of Indian Alluvial belt of India .
• Should know about peninsular plate its
formation , Western and Eastern Ghats
interims of physical economical pattern of
India sub continent.
5. Learning outcomes
• Should know why we have Indian deserts and
what is its importance
• Should know the formation of Indian islands
and its importance in terms of geopolitics
• Should know the Indian coastline and can
differentiate parts of it.
6. Assessment techniques
Content and pedagogical process
Note . Before we start this chapter ,we have to make sure that
the students
know about the location and extent of Indian subcontinent
in general and India as a country in particular ,if it is not yet
achieved then it is important to give a separate session to
students on location analysis
• Collect information with the help of world map and Indian
political and physical map
• Discuss with full demonstration on the concept of plate
tectonics, show them an animated video on this concept
,show Maps Images and Diagrams on mountain building
and give them a brief concept on Geological Time Scale
7. Assessment techniques
• Show India Physical Map to them that the
students will differentiate between them
• Try to Correlate physical settings with drainage
,climate and economy of India and explain why
Northern plains of India are important
• Give them a brief concept of India interims of
Geo-politics and importance of rights over the
oceans and islands like Andaman and Nikobar
and Lakshadweep islands , the coral and volcanic
origin of these islands with the help of map
Content and pedagogical processes
9. Assessment techniques
• Give them a brief concept how the Indian
coastline is formed ,why it is important , why
western Ghats and Eastern Ghats are
different with the help of maps and images
and the Geomorphologic logic behind it
10. Content
The background of formation of India , the phenomena of Folding ,Faulting
and Volcanic Activity which took place in Geological Period
The types of rocks and soils their textures
Formation different continents and oceans of the world
Gondwana land ,Angara land and Tithes sea
Major Physical Division

18. Assessment
tools: Oral
Why map
one map is
showing
different
colours
What does
these colours
show
Try to
correlate the
map one
with map
two map
,Which states
in India are
having which
one of the
colours and
why
19. Assessment tools: Oral
How many physical
divisions we have in
India
Show us with the help
of pointer on map
20. Assessment tools:
Oral
Show us the
Northern
Mountains
Show us the
Northern Plains
With the help of
pointer
Why northern plains are just adjacent
to Himalayan range
21. Assessment tools: Oral
Show us the
Eastern Ghats and
Western Ghats in
peninsular India
And the different
mountain ranges
in peninsular
India
Are the mountain ranges of south as
high in altitude as Northern
Mountains
Are these young or old mountains
26. Assessment tools:
Oral
What is shown in these
maps
What is the location of
these islands
which sea is surrounding
them
What is the difference in
the formation of
Andoman Nikobar and
lawkshadweep islands
27. RUBRIC
Criteria Beginner Improving Good Excellent
Demonstration Could not
understood
about physical
settings of India
Had a little
concept about
Origin of Indian
subcontinent
Had basic
concept about
the physiography
and its
components
Answered
quarries about
physiographic
and its Geological
past
Recognition Was not in a
position to
recognise the
maps and
images shown to
him and the
queries asked to
him
Few queries and
images
recognised
Had a bit of
knowledge and
recognised the
things in a better
way like physical
divisions
mountains and
other features
Perfectly
explained each
picture shown to
him and every
question asked to
him
Explanation Was not able to
explain about
India physical
settings
Explained a little
but did not
having full
concept and had
doubts while
explaining
Explained the
things in a better
way has very few
doubts while
explaining and
the key concepts
were clear
Gave full
explanation
about
geomorphologica

economic aspect
of it physio

28. RATIONALE
The map is the only tool with the geographers by which they can make
understand students
I tried to use map in full extend so that the students will remember the
key concepts of geography and locations for ever
I used some images to get a real feel about soil textures , desert and
coastal features of India
I used diagrams to show how mountain building took place
I used the table to get compared view on the altitudes of Himalayan
mountains
I tried to connect physical settings of India with geological time scale ,
economy, agriculture and geopolitics in order to get real essence of
geographical knowhow
