Heutagogy is the study of self-determined learning where learners are primarily responsible for deciding what and how they learn. The principles of heutagogy include learner-centered and learner-determined learning, developing capabilities through reflection, metacognition and double-loop learning. Learning occurs in a nonlinear way as learners choose their own path. Heutagogy focuses on learners being autonomous, self-motivated individuals who reflect on both what they learn and how they learn through experiences in familiar and unfamiliar contexts.
