Creative Leadership Elective 2013
Noémie Julienne
A few years ago, I red an article about this employee, Mark Johnson
who was working for an informatic company in their californian head
quarters. He was explaining to a colleague from another department
that he had trouble with the setting up of a program to create an
easier access to their internal database, in order for people to put all
the relevant information (competitors, the group, the market...) they
had read in the news papers. This colleague, Paul Matthews, was
new in the company and used to work in Taiwan for an asian
company.
As they were talking, Mark found out that Paul had the same issue
the year before…The latter explained to Mark how he solved the
problem. Together were exchanging their experience and thoughts
about this issue.
At the end Mark decided to create a search engine process using
key words, as well as a classification method to help people finding
what they were looking for on this internal database.
As a consequence, this database became an integrated tool for
employees of the company to help them in their daily task.
1-According to you, how to make knowledge
              « sustainable » ?


2-How to stimulate this sharing of Knowledge ?
Today, the world changes very fast. Companies have to adapt and
innovate faster than before. Companies meaning people working for
them, meaning YOU !

People have to work together to innovate from the bottom-up to the
top-down of a company. To innovate companies can not work in
isolation, they have to cocreate with all the different part of the
company.

Thanks to Knowledge*, companies can achieve innovation, adapt and
anticipate. Knowledge is today part of a company’s business strategy.

Knowledge leads to generate ideas, YOUR ideas, which are at the
origin of innovation.

However, as the world is constantly changing, you can be sure that
today’s knowledge is not tomorrow’s knowledge. It loses value.
*Knowledge could be define as Kow-how (implicit) and Know-what (explicit).
What is the solution?
How to help you sharing knowledge ?

1-Promote a culture of sharing Knowledge
 Awareness raising
-Learn: Knowledge Management through regular meetings
discussing your experiences, providing guidance to use Dan Tube
and other technologies, training sessions, forums,…
-Understand: The world’s behavior, your company’s core
values, approach and objectives.
2- Create a team playing game within the company, using Dan
Tube
 Generate ideas
  Within small teams, employees will collaborate together with
  employees with different backgrounds to encourage diversity.
  They will share their ideas and opinions through brainstormings.
  Top management will also be involved in teams, they will take the
  time to share their knowledge (experience, etc…).
 Disseminate knowledge within the organization.
  Team members will post and share their videos on
  DanTube, those that the team has decided to post following
  their brainstorming. These videos are for Danone’s new
  project.
  After this first post, they will have to watch the videos from
  other teams. They have the possibility to comment them and
  encourage to post other videos. However people have to be
  responsible concerning the posting of videos. Besides
  Remember no negative judgement is allowed.


3- Set-up a reward system to support the knowledge
sharing
 Personal reward: Sharing knowledge can help them to
  work more effectively, to be more performant as they can
  learn from the others. It helps them in their personal
  development and in their career progression ! It may be a
  mean of social recognition.
 Incentives
  Danone could resort to a performance evaluation using the
  sharing knowledge as a key criteria to rate people. It could
  also be used for promotion or bonuses at the end of the year.
  The more people get visibility through their commitment on
  Dan Tube or other technologies, the better it is for them.

4- Test Danone’s project involving the wining team

The team who won will be part of this test. Together with those at
the origin of the project, they will collaborate, creating a
prototype.
A video will be made on this test showing the team working on
the project in the laboratory. It will be posted and shared on
DanTube.
Employees can follow up the project. It can help to generate new
ideas. They can also through their videos bring relevant
information and so on…

  • 2. A few years ago, I red an article about this employee, Mark Johnson who was working for an informatic company in their californian head quarters. He was explaining to a colleague from another department that he had trouble with the setting up of a program to create an easier access to their internal database, in order for people to put all the relevant information (competitors, the group, the market...) they had read in the news papers. This colleague, Paul Matthews, was new in the company and used to work in Taiwan for an asian company. As they were talking, Mark found out that Paul had the same issue the year before…The latter explained to Mark how he solved the problem. Together were exchanging their experience and thoughts about this issue. At the end Mark decided to create a search engine process using key words, as well as a classification method to help people finding what they were looking for on this internal database. As a consequence, this database became an integrated tool for employees of the company to help them in their daily task.
  • 3. 1-According to you, how to make knowledge « sustainable » ? 2-How to stimulate this sharing of Knowledge ?
  • 4. Today, the world changes very fast. Companies have to adapt and innovate faster than before. Companies meaning people working for them, meaning YOU ! People have to work together to innovate from the bottom-up to the top-down of a company. To innovate companies can not work in isolation, they have to cocreate with all the different part of the company. Thanks to Knowledge*, companies can achieve innovation, adapt and anticipate. Knowledge is today part of a company’s business strategy. Knowledge leads to generate ideas, YOUR ideas, which are at the origin of innovation. However, as the world is constantly changing, you can be sure that today’s knowledge is not tomorrow’s knowledge. It loses value. *Knowledge could be define as Kow-how (implicit) and Know-what (explicit).
  • 5. What is the solution?
  • 6. How to help you sharing knowledge ? 1-Promote a culture of sharing Knowledge  Awareness raising -Learn: Knowledge Management through regular meetings discussing your experiences, providing guidance to use Dan Tube and other technologies, training sessions, forums,… -Understand: The world’s behavior, your company’s core values, approach and objectives. 2- Create a team playing game within the company, using Dan Tube  Generate ideas Within small teams, employees will collaborate together with employees with different backgrounds to encourage diversity. They will share their ideas and opinions through brainstormings. Top management will also be involved in teams, they will take the time to share their knowledge (experience, etc…).
  • 7.  Disseminate knowledge within the organization. Team members will post and share their videos on DanTube, those that the team has decided to post following their brainstorming. These videos are for Danone’s new project. After this first post, they will have to watch the videos from other teams. They have the possibility to comment them and encourage to post other videos. However people have to be responsible concerning the posting of videos. Besides Remember no negative judgement is allowed. 3- Set-up a reward system to support the knowledge sharing  Personal reward: Sharing knowledge can help them to work more effectively, to be more performant as they can learn from the others. It helps them in their personal development and in their career progression ! It may be a mean of social recognition.
  • 8.  Incentives Danone could resort to a performance evaluation using the sharing knowledge as a key criteria to rate people. It could also be used for promotion or bonuses at the end of the year. The more people get visibility through their commitment on Dan Tube or other technologies, the better it is for them. 4- Test Danone’s project involving the wining team The team who won will be part of this test. Together with those at the origin of the project, they will collaborate, creating a prototype. A video will be made on this test showing the team working on the project in the laboratory. It will be posted and shared on DanTube. Employees can follow up the project. It can help to generate new ideas. They can also through their videos bring relevant information and so on…
