Here are just a few of
Urban Outfitters’
advertisements. I have
chosen to take most of
my inspiration from the
above double page
spread because I like
the grunge/pop look
and I’d like to create a
similar look but
perhaps in a more pop
like manner. I want to
keep mine simple like
Urban Outfitters’
adverts just to keep it
true to the brand which
is indie/grunge/pop.

Having taken my
original photograph in
black and white, I
played with the
brightness and
contrast to make it
bolder and more in
line with Urban
Outfitters image. I
then changed the mid
tone contrast to even
out the dark and light
areas so that there
was some concept of
tone in the photo.
One area of my scalp
looked sparse due to the
lighting and so I used the
burn tool to simulate hairs
where the light had made
them seem non existent. I
then went around my
brows, eyes and lips with
the clone tool to get a
bolder, more defined
shape which is in line with
Urban Outfitters’ models.
I used the spot heal tool
to edit out my freckles-
this gave my image a
more polished, clean
appearance. I then
selected my chosen logo
and saved it onto my
computer ready to put on
my advert
Next, I inserted my logo and
cropped my image to be A4 like
most ads in magazines. I then
used the quick select tool to
bring my model forward and
separated the ‘U’ and ‘O’ of the
logo so I could fit one letter on
each side of the model’s head.
