Goliath Fish Adaptations
The Goliath grouper is a fish that belongs to the cod family. Their family name is serenade (cods and
groupers). It's scientific name is Epinephelus lanceolatus. Grouper are the largest specimens that are
the biggest in the cod family. Grouper are evenly mottled brown with dark spots as seen in fig 1. On
the edges of their soft fins juveniles bear striking black and yellow bars. Description bottom

The fork in the tail shows that the fish is not a very fast swimmer. The lateral line helps the fish
detect predators or prey. The pelvic fins do the job of the dorsal fins to help keep its balance. It uses
it's mouth to crush its prey. The pectoral fin helps steer the fish in the direction it wants to go. It has
very well developed eyes so it can see its prey and predators very well. The anal fin or fins are used
the same way as the pectoral fins and help move the fish it the direction it want to go. The gill cover

The Angler Fish
The ocean covers 70% of the whole world! And still only 5% has been discovered. Scientists have
been trying many different ways to try to discover more of the ocean, but have trouble getting to the

As a lot of people know only 5% of the whole entire ocean has been discovered, and the ocean
covers more than 70% of the world! Many creatures have been discovered as we unlock more and
more secrets of the ocean.
The Angler fish was discovered on August 5, 2015 in the Gulf of Mexico, and has a light source
coming from right below its nostrils, spiky teeth, and a big mouth for catching prey. Most anglerfish

The basking shark has a wide mouth to catch fish in like a basket. It is also the second biggest shark
after the whale shark, which means it's one of the worlds biggest sharks.
Most of these animals live around 1,200 m deep or more. They also are some of the rarest fish you
could ever try to spot or to catch. They also like to feed of small fish.
And of course there our non–fish related fact about the ocean like the the Bermuda Triangle which

Fish Tree Extra Credit
Often time we find it difficult to summarize what is really classified as fish. With it being at least
27,900 different species of living fish rather in fresh or marine water. There are many different
aspects you have to consider when grouping this animal. From weight to length to outer appearance
these are very diverse group of species. A braincase is one thing that all fish have in common; the
braincase protects the brain. Majority of the fish species have vertebrae that protect the spinal cord,
making them vertebrates. Most fish breathe with gills more so then lungs although some are
different. They move by using paired limbs such as fins. When it comes to their internal body

The Fish Figurative Language
"The Fish" by Elizabeth Bishop is about a fisherman who was joyful to have caught a tremendous
fish. However throughout the poem, the fisherman examine the fish closer and realize how special it
is. Admires that it's no ordinary fish because of the injuries and scars from battles faced from
previous fishermens. Respects his power to survive and releases the fish as it deserves another
chance. The speaker uses diction and figurative language such as similes and imagery to reveal the
change in attitude toward the fish by describing the struggles it has been through and characteristics
of the fish. The change in attitude towards the fish begins on line 22, where the speaker uses diction
to describe the struggle and condition the fish is in. "While his gills were breathing in the terrible
oxygen –– the frightening gills"(22). Usually when we think of oxygen, it is valuable because it's
necessary for us to live. However, in this case to a fish it's the opposite. The use of terrible helps the
reader to image the fish trying to stay alive and why the speaker is concerned. Also uses imagery to
describe the fish's struggle "Grim, wet, and weaponline, hung five old pieces of fish line... and a wire
leader with the swivel still attached"(50). The fish broke free of five fish lines, has a ... Show more

"I admired his sullen face, the mechanism of his jaw"(45) is an example of diction, uses sullen to
describe the fish and create a relationship between the fisherman and the fish. The speaker also uses
figurative language such as similes ," Coarse white flesh packed in like feathers"(27) and "his shiny
entrails, and thee pink swim–bladder like a big peony."(31).Helps the reader to picture the fish's
injuries and makes us feel bad for the fish. The usage of diction and figurative language shows the

The Fish By Elizabeth Bishop
When an individual looks at an animal, does he see an object or a living breathing individual? In
"The Fish," Elizabeth Bishop turns an everyday object such as a fish into a battle scarred war hero in
the eyes of the reader. Societies various perspectives on the consumptions of living animas has
influenced the preconception the speaker has on living animals. With her previous knowledge of
fishes and her use of personification, she creates a new ideology on how to view living animals. This
becomes the main transformation the speaker has on her fishing journey. Ultimately in "The Fish,"
the theme of morality is contemplated as the speaker changes her perspective on the symbolic fish,
and in doing so it changes the reader's preconceptions on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

From reading the poem, the reader is aware of how descriptive Bishop is with her observations.
Furthermore, the way the speaker depicts each description is very important observation. Carlson
writes, "Bishop anthropomorphizes the fish, calling it 'he' throughout" (82). This introduces the fish
as a male figure and begins to characterize it away from being more than just an object. This
introduces the idea of personification by how Bishop begins to characterize the fish. In addition,
Bishop writes, "I admired his sullen face, / the mechanism of his jaw" (45–46). Here we see Bishop
starts to admire the human like characteristics the fish has. Carlson says, "It is the human
subjectivity to which Bishop responds...describing the fish's ability to attract her sympathy in
anthropomorphic–and gendered–terms" (82). In other words by characterizing the fish as male and
describing him in a human–like form, Bishop creates a sympathetic attraction to the fish in the
reader and the speaker. We see a sense of connection in Bishop's quote when he says," I looked into
his eyes / which were larger than mine / but shallower, and yellowed, / the iris backed and packed /
with tarnished tinfoil seen through the lenses / of old scratched isinglass" (34–40). This connection
we see where the fish is being

The Fish Story Symbolism
The fish in "Fish Story" symbolizes a transitional period for the boy, who acts as the narrator. Many
times it is said that your eyes are the windows to your soul, in "Fish Story" the fish's eyes acted as a
symbolic window into the narrator's soul. Being a boy of 10 years old he is suspended between the
world of childhood innocence and raw uncensored adulthood. From early on the boy connects with
the fish as he is describing the fish's eyes, "The fish, in turn, studied me with its round, obsidian
eyes, which had a gold lining to their perimeter, like pyrite" (p. 1, par. 5, Bass, 2009). This shows
the amount of consideration that the boy puts into the fish. He sees it as more than that of a meal or
payment of a debt. He continues to connect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2, par. 16, Bass, 2009). In fact, the actions of the partygoers that night the narrator largely attributes
to the alcohol consumed, if not directly, he makes mention of the fact it is present several times
throughout the story.
As he is forced into the harsh reality of adulthood he notices the fish changing too, once again in the
fish's eyes, "I kept watering the fish. The gasps were coming slower and I felt that perhaps a fire was
going out in the fish's eyes" (p. 3, par. 22, Bass, 2009). Just as the water is turned off by Jack's dad,
the narrator's innocence starts a downward spiral. He no longer has that lifeline to the fish. He starts
seeing changes in the fish's appearance "Immediately, or so it seemed to me, a fine wrinkling
appeared on the previously taut gunmetal skin of the fish–a desiccation, like watching a time–lapse
motion picture of a man's or woman's skin wrinkling as he or she ages, regardless of the man's or
woman's wishes to the contrary" (p. 3, par. 24, Bass, 2009). With this reference he is implying the
desire to stay young and to not age, to not be aware of the eventual end. As Jack's father is prepping
the fish for the fire the boy is shocked, and disgusted

Little Fish Symbols
During the eighties, I used to see little fish emblems on bumper stickers every time I went driving. I
understood that the symbol related to Christianity in some way but I didn't know its exact meaning.
Because I was not a Christian, seeing this symbol everywhere I looked made me feel like an outsider
in my community. Another phenomenon I noticed was that there were many other bumper stickers
making fun of the fish symbol. Whatever I felt about the symbol at the time, I felt that mocking it
was not appropriate. For example, some people put little fish with legs on bumper stickers and the
word "Darwin" inside. Still, others countered that image by showing a big fish with the word
"Truth" on it eating a Darwin fish. Others had various different ... Show more content on

It now represents a war between Christians and those who oppose Christianity. No one has the right
to degrade another person's spiritual symbols, and I find the contemporary usage of the symbol very

Christians were able to change the meaning of the symbol, and I must do the same. I believe I can
do this if I disassociate it with the "fish wars" and bring it back as a symbol that is sacred in multiple

That afternoon he saw a fisherman standing in the lake holding a mirror. Attached to the handle of
the mirror was a large net. "Excuse me" Jay said "but what are you doing?"
"I'm fishing of coarse" came the reply.
"With a mirror?" Jay asked thinking the man was crazy. "Yep it's my latest invention and this time
I'm going to make a fortune!" the man said.
"How does it work?" Jay asked already smelling a fish fry.

Fish In Florida Essay
Florida cannot be beat as the best place to cast a line, throw a lure, or land a wall–hanger. The
"Sunshine State" has many freshwater and saltwater fisheries available to its many natives and
tourists alike. In addition, Florida's ideal weather provides many opportunities to fish throughout the
year. Anglers of all ages enjoy recreational and competitive fishing while interacting with Florida's
natural habitats. Florida is the fishing capital of the world because of its many abundant resources.
To begin with, there are countless bodies of water to explore in Florida. Florida provides anglers
with a wide variety of species of fish to target. In the many lakes and rivers in Florida one may catch
large–mouth bass, brim, bluegill, and occasionally a gar. All of these fish are extremely enjoyable to

lobster. People come from all over the world to catch both of these coveted species. The tarpon gives
anglers one of the toughest fights of their lives, sometimes lasting hours. Boca Grande Pass in Punta
Gorda is famous for tarpon fishing and is often the venue for many tournaments. Along with tarpon,
Florida's spiny lobsters are a major attraction for anglers but in a different way. They are not caught
with a fishing rod but rather are apprehended while snorkeling or by using a bully net. The intensity
and stamina required by a swimmer to capture a legal–sized "keeper", creates a thrill like no other.
Bully netting lobster occurs at night as the angler attempts to capture the migrating lobsters in a
special net while standing in the boat. With multiple ways to catch these beasts, the challenge keeps
the thrill alive for anglers of all

The Fish Figurative Language
The Man "The Fish" Elizabeth Bishop free verse poem, is an ancient love story in which she
compared a man that was in her life to a fish. Which should be told in past tense because its coming
from Elizabeth Bishop point of view, that is why Elizabeth Bishop describes the fish as battered and
homely, however venerable. Elizabeth Bishop mention that it did not fought but that did not come in
handy until the end when she defeated the tremendous fish. Within the poem Elizabeth Bishop
paints images using vivid language to describe the fish with figurative language and diverse in
tones. At the very beginning of the poem Elizabeth Bishop started out using figurative language line
1 "I caught a tremendous fish" how tremendous can one fish be? Did Elizabeth Bishop meant it was
tremendous in size? Or was it tremendous informally. After capturing the fish, the speaker became
complacent about her achievement in catching a tremendous fish lines 2–4 "and held him beside the

Elizabeth Bishop found the fish ugly but she continued to observe it from its external features to its

Poem Analysis: The Fish
The Fish is a narrative monologue composed for 76 free–verse lines. The poem is constructed as one
long stanza. The author is the speaker narrating this poem. She narrates a fishing experience. The
author is out in a rented boat on a body of water, presumably a lake. She tries to describe the fish to
the fullest, which appears to be the purpose of the poem, without saying either the specie or an
approximate age. The narration gives the impression that the fish is slightly old. There are a number
of reasons as to why that fish got caught by the author, including time of day, the weeds weighing it
down, fish's age, and the fact that it has been previously caught five times. This poem is full of
visual imagery; one can imagine being the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, the speaker talks about the fish's eyes, larger, shallower, and yellower than hers. The different
pieces of fishing line caught in his jaw shows how many times he either escaped or was let go by the
other fishers. Then the description of the rented boat, the parts of the boat that all turned into a
rainbow. There are four examples of assonance in this poem, lines 6–7, 10, 14–15, and 21. In lines
6–7, fought/all and hung/grunting are assonants. In line 10, skin/strips are assonants and also the
speaker uses hung again which she used earlier in line 7 to reiterate that the fish is dying.
Blown/roses and stained/age are assonants in lines 14–15. Line 21 is the last line in this poem to
employ assonance, green/weed and also the third line to use "hung". The fish hanging on both
describes its age as well as its weight. There is also repetition of "rainbow" four times, lines 69 and
75, which shows that she had a "vision" or a transformation that caused her to release the fish. The
author's diction is easy to understand, not complicated fisherman dialect. In lines 8 and 9, she uses
words that offer a precise description of the fish, "battered and venerable and homely". But she also
employs words that show that she has knowledge of fishing, such as, shiny entrails (line 31), and
isinglass (line 41). There is a little irony in the poem. In lines 5 and 6, the author says, "He didn't
fight. He hadn't fought at

Descriptive Experience Of Fish
Version 2: 5 fish, mean fish, dead fish, no fish!
I opened the black hatch on the lid of the fish tank. Turning open the lid of the plastic container, I
reached inside and took out a pinch of the musty–smelling fish food flakes. I sprinkled the flakes
over the water in the fish tank and watched as the 5 fish swam up, gulping up the thin copper,
crimson, and mahogany colored flakes. I watched until the fish swam away, finished with their
meal. I then closed the hatch, put away and closed the jar of fish food, and walked out of my room.
Feeding time was over. Just a couple days ago, I had been at Petsmart with my family.
The fish tanks at Petsmart were all lined up against the walls, illuminated by blue and violet lights.
Each fish tank held fish of all kinds of different shapes, colors, and sizes. My family had bought 5
glimmering fish, a bag of fish care supplies, and when we got home, my mom and dad took the old
fish tank we had in our garage, and much to my delight, set it up in my room, on top of a low
bookcase.
One day, me and my mom both saw something odd in the fish tank.. One of the fish, a huge fish
with silver colored scales, was pecking at some of the smaller fish, causing a couple of their scales
to fall off and drift around in the water. Me and my sister started calling that fish the,"mean fish."

Abyssal fish
Abyssal fish are those fish that live below the photic zone of the ocean, below 2000 m. These fishes
must survive in extremely harsh conditions, such as hundreds of bars of pressure, small amounts of
oxygen, very little food (no photosynthesis), total darkness, and extreme cold. Examples of Species:
Lanternfish, flashlight fish, anglerfish, tripod fish, giant squid, and others.
In order to survive and reproduce, the abyssal animals developed necessary adaptation (anatomical
and behavioral) to suit the deep water environment. These include:
Coping with total darkness: Many species are blind and rely on other senses to replace peripheral

the largest member of the pike family. These fish love to lurk around rock bars, stumps, ledges, and
many different types of weeds. "A lean mean fightin' machine that is arguably the most sought–after

Analyzing The Poem 'The Fish'
"The Fish"
Thinking about the text:
1) Yes, the authors attitude changed throughout the poem. In the beginning the author wrote that the
fish didn't have any fight " He hadn't fought at all. He hung a grunting weight, battered and
vulnerable" and towards the end she noticed that the fish was in fact a survivor "Like medals with
their ribbons frayed and wavering, a five– haired beard of wisdom trailing from his aching jaw."
2) At one point in the text the author did compare her eyes to the fish's " I looked into his eyes which
were far larger than mine but shallower ,and yellowed." She was comparing herself to the way the
fish looked. I feel as though she saw a fight in the fish that she also carries inside of her own self.
3) I personally think the victory was on the fishes side. She kept giving the fish the descriptions of
an amazing warrior who as escaped a plentiful of past fishermen. I think in the back of her mind she
knew that she was obligated to put it back into the water to claim another victory. It was a victory
for the fish because it has escaped death once again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Phrases such as "tarnished tinfoil", "old scratched isinglass" and "ancient wallpaper."

ugly.

Poem Analysis: 'The Fish'
The most notable quality of Bishop "the Fish" is the way she can use imagery and narrate her life. In
the setting, the poem has a fisherman who has caught a fish that didn't give a fight. The narrative
voice establishes the awe of the woman over the fish that had obviously been through many
encounters and fights for his life. Thought the use imagery, symbolism, and style the reader is
brought into bonding with a fish that has suffered and experience the feeling of giving up in the
battles of life just like the rest of us. Filled with vivid imagery Bishop helps the reader to form a

" looked into his eyes... i admired his sullen face, the mechanism of his jaw." A tone of respect is
made and the reader has more respect for the fish. The lip "if you could call it a lip" is brought to the
readers attention. The fish is personified with its grim, wet, weapon–like lips. Then the hooks are
reveled. The lip has grown around the hooks and the hang "like medals with their ribbons frayed and
wavering," showing that this is not the first fisherman encounter that this fish has had. The fish is
"wise" as the author tells of his "five–haired beard of wisdom trailing behind his aching jaw. The
reader is brought into a deeper respect for the fish and the narrator lets him go as he had been caught
five times before and still had managed to be alive. This story is full of symbolism such as the fish
lack of a struggle shows the relationship between expectation and reality. The fisherwomen expected
to catch a fish or else she would not have been out on a boat but she also expected the fish to fight

yet still managed to be alive. Respect is something that is in this story the five hooks being medals

Identify Fish
There are many different ways to identify a fish, yet each fish is unique in its own way. A carp has
one barbel at each corner of the mouth that is short, while a mirror carp has large scales that flake
off. A Northern pike has a duck billed snout and yellow bean shaped spots, where a buffalo fish has
a downturned mouth with thick lips and a paddlefish has a paddle like snout and are plankton
feeders. A bullhead has a rounded tail; however, a catfish has a forked tail. A largemouth bass and a
rock bass are in the sunfish family, yet can be identified by looking at the upper jaw that extends
past the eye of the largemouth bass and the bloodshot eyes of the rock bass. The sunfish family,
which is also composed of the bluegill, green sunfish, and redear sunfish, can be identified by
looking at the opercular flap; a bluegill has a solid black flap, a green sunfish has a black flap with a
white or yellow edge, and a redear sunfish has a black flap with a red edge. A walleye is identified
by looking at the tail fin; it has a white margin on lower lobe of the tail fin.
Fish are also identified as being ancient or modern. An ancient fish has a cartilage skeleton, very
long lives, a dorsal fin close to the posterior, and plate like or armour like scales. ... Show more

Hawaii Fish Problems
When you think of the food in Hawai'i what's the first item that comes to your mind? Fish, perhaps.
One of the most popular dishes that Hawai'i is known for is called poke (po–keh), a raw fish salad
usually served as an appetizer in Hawaiian cuisine, most tourists ask for poke at many restaurants so
they can get the "real taste" of Hawai'i. But do they know where the fish came from? When it was
caught? How long it's been sitting in the freezer? How old or young the fish was? Do they even
care? Most people don't pay attention to those kind of questions because they want to get what they
paid for, which is a nice view of the beach/sunset, fresh "Hawaiian" fish, and maybe a fruity cocktail
to go along with it. "Come in and enjoy our fresh catch of the day!" I'm ... Show more content on

One of the main problems in the U.S. is Unsustainable fishing. The seas and other bodies of water,
as well as its inhabitants, are being threatened by numerous factors. Overfishing can lead to damage
in the environment, extinction of species, increase in pollution, and a total collapse of fish stock. In
2012, the U.S. Government decided to enforce the fishing policy by giving all fisheries a catch limit.
Juliet Eilperin, from Washington Post, stated, "Five years ago, Bush signed a reauthorization of the
Magnuson–Stevens Act, which dates to the mid–1970s and governs all fishing in the U.S. waters. A
bipartisan coalition of lawmakers joined environmental groups, some fishing interests and scientists
to insert language in the law requiring each fishery to have annual catch limits in place by the end of
2011 to end overfishing". This was the beginning of a great debate that many people began to be
engaged in. After this article was published many people started to realize the dangers of overfishing
and what we are doing to our own

Lion Fish
This article is about the rapid growth of lionfish in the wild. These fish are destroying the
ecosystem. They are an unopposed predator in the deep blue and so they over eat to the point of
obesity and reproduce rapidly. Colin Angle, iRobot CEO, went on a diving trip in the bermuda and
learned about the damage the lionfish were doing. Several conservationists motioned or funded him
creating a machine that could kill the fish. This is how the Robots in Service of the Environment
(RISE) nonprofit company was started. RISE has been trying to come up with ideas on how to deal
with the dead lionfish. One thought was to have sharks trained to eat them. Another thought was to
use their remains as jewelry. It hasn't been decided on what they will do. So far fishermen can kill
lionfish in local reefs or shallow water but lionfish can survive at even greater depths. Machines are
ultimately going to play a large role in controlling the lionfish population. ... Show more content on

The Robots in Service of the Environment (RISE) was founded because of this dilemma. Now,
people are trying to figure out exactly how they will control the lionfish population. To reflect, I
disagree with killing the lionfish. Robots, in my opinion, shouldn't be used to kill sea creatures even
if they are destroying the environment. There should be another way to deal with this situation. This
impacts me in particular because I like to build robots and if they'd be used to kill animals then I

Fish Memo
I'm going to start off by answering the questions stated in paragraph 2 and 3 of the memo. The
anglers at Site 1 have reported that only 5 to 10% of the fish are exceeding the length of 20 inches.
I'll be examining this statement in paragraph 2 of this analysis. The histogram shows a distribution
of the length of fish in the river that is fairly symmetrical, centered at about 16.35 and has a spread
of 12.57 to 20.4 inches with no outliers. The mean of the length of fish is 16.349 inches and the
median is 16.35, both being very similar due to the symmetric distribution. In order for a fish from
the river to be in the top 25%, the length of the fish must be greater than or equal to 17.28 inches.

In order to pick which variable has a better correlation with species, we created a scatter plot in
Exhibit 5 with the variable Salrange which shows a linear form and a moderate correlation. Exhibit
6 confirms the moderate, negative correlation of –0.72 with species. Next, we will look at the
correlation between Meansal and species. Exhibit 7 shows a nonlinear scatter plot with very little
correlation. Exhibit 8 shows that there is an extremely weak correlation between the variable
Meansal and species. Exhibit 9 includes the regression model when using Salrange as the
explanatory variable:
Predicted Species = 20.01 – 1.99(Salrange)
The model suggests that for every 1 unit added to Salrange, the predicted species decreased by 1.99.
This model has an R–squared value of .5169, indicating that approximately 52% of the variation in
the amount of macroinvertebrate species is explained by the model. This suggests the model will be
useful for prediction purposes. Our residual scatter plot in Exhibit 10 shows a normal scatter which
indicates that it is a useful model as well.
Meansal was not used to create a regression model due to its extremely weak relationship with the

The Fish By Elizabeth Bishop
"The Fish" by Elizabeth Bishop is a very colorful poem filled with lots of different outcomes than
our usual expectations. The poem is very symbolic through its use color and the fish it describes.
The poem is also written in free verse, which you could relate to the nature of the fish. It is set on a
boat in the middle of the ocean, with the ocean symbolizing chaos, the nature of the poem. The fish
causes some conflict within this poem. First, the fish changes the speaker's expectation of how
events will occur. We can infer that the speaker did not find catching the fish as fulfilling as she
thought she would have. Based on the long debating and dangling of the fish, it is obvious that the
speaker feels at least moderately conflicted about

Marine Fish Overfishing
A predominant resource in our oceans are fish and other marine species. In recent times, fish have
been caught with less effort due to new technologies, improved equipment and human's need for
money. Fishermen have started capturing fish at a faster rate than they can be reproduced. This is
known as overfishing which leads to degradation of our oceans. The fishing industry is growing as
the demand for seafood is increasing. This leads to many negative issues, the main issue being the
loss of species and ecosystems which can lead to humans losing such a valuable source of food.
What makes matters worse is that other marine species are caught and destroyed for no purpose in
the process. Scientists predict the commercial extinction of marine life if this trend continues. This
raises the question "should more be done to sustainably manage ocean fishing?"
Fishing is destroying marine biodiversity. When it comes to balancing the ecosystem, every single
plant and animal have a role to play. Marine creatures are dependent on other organisms in order to
thrive. The oceanic ecosystem contains complex interlinked systems where organisms rely on their
own niche for survival. As the world's population's demand for seafood increases so does
commercial fishing. 'The global marine fish catch is approaching its upper limit' (Evatt G 2017). The
vast removal of targeted fish has shifted the food web structure. Fishing has led to a decrease in the
mean size of target fish as the larger

Characteristics Of Sargassum Fish

Comparing Natural Mortality of Sargassum Fish (Histrio histrio) and Blue Runner (Caranx crysos).
Violeta Curameng
Abstract In the Gulf of Mexico a variety of marine environments can be utilized by fish. Common
environments include Coral reefs and Sargassum. An assortment of fish can inhabit these
environments but which environment they live in depends on their life history. Histrio histrio
(Sargassum Fish) live in the Sargassum and Caranx Crysos (Blue Runner) live in the open water
near reefs. Natural mortality of these species can be linked to their distribution and their life history
strategies.
Introduction
In the Gulf of Mexico there are many different marine habitats that reside in its waters. From reef
environments to floating Sargassum, a diverse variety of fishes can be found. Sargassum, is a type of
brown algae that consists of two species, S. natans and S. fluitans (Rooker 2006). Sargassum has
been linked to primary and secondary production and can also be a hot spot of production which
would be an ideal habitat for pelagic fishes (Peres 1982). Coral reefs are a habitat that are common
in the Gulf of Mexico, such as, the Flower Garden Banks (NOAA 2017). There are also many
artificial reefs in the gulf that provide shelter for many fish species (Bull 1994). Of these habitats
fish such as, Histrio histrio (Sargassum Fish) and Caranx crysos (Blue Runner) are abundant. H.
histrio can be found hidden in the Sargassum environments while

The Reflection Of The Fish By Bishop

Why Fish?
"The Fish" by Bishop help the reader to see the motions. She uses tone to allow the reader to see the
fish and create a connection. The mental pictures created are, in fact, so good that the reader
believes incident actually happened to a real person, therefore building respect from the reader to the
fish. The reader is blasted with an intense image of the fish, speaks about the fish on an individual
base and sees how the writer compares the fish to her boat.
First, the reader is blasted with a lot pictures of the fish. The reader has more compassion with the
fishes situation, and can relate cause majority of people fish. Next, the writer compares the fish to

This rented boat leaking oil from its rusted engine created a rainbow so beautiful that she became
overwhelmed and releases the fish. The boat started out defective, but so amazed asthe writer, that
she released the fish. Here, the boat can be compared to the fish; in it's initial faultiness, then to its
final glory. The expressive words allow the reader to, again, think about the moment colorfully
through the eyes of the narrator. She does a wonderful job in describing every moment in her
growing relationship with the fish. She creates, first an image of a helpless captive and the reader is
allowed to feel sorry for the fish and even pity his situation. The storytellers relationship with the
fish then grows to one of personal regard as she looks into his eyes and describes his stare. Because
the reader is following the story with the poet, the readers relationship to the fish evolves as the
writer does. Next, a level of respect is reached, when the writer sees his five–hooked jaw; she
realizes his situation of capture and detention and releases him as he'd gotten away five times
before. The reader's value also reaches this level of respect, in that the fish had been caught five
times previously and still managed to be alive. The fish's "badges of courage," described by the poet,
allowed the reader to grow and create a bond with the fish and understand his life. The imagery and

Fish Reflection
When the external observations were completed, the first incision was commenced. In order to reach
the internal organs of the fish a rectangular cut was made which first started from the anus to the
pelvic fin, then the incision was made from the ends of the previous cuts upwards to the lateral line.
When the cut was finished, Yellow fluid started coming out of the fish, this is primarily water that
has been in the fish and started to change color. After the yellow fluid stopped flowing out, a closer
examination of the rectangular piece was studied. From the piece, there were three layers. They
were the scales, muscles, which were very flaky, and at certain points, the bones. The internal organs
were then visible. The first organs that were seen were part of the digestive system. The digestive
system a series of organs that break down and absorb nutrients from the material they've eaten .
These organs were the stomach, intestine, spleen, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and the previously
talked about part which were in the external observation, the anus. There were of course other parts
of the digestive system, but however, these parts would later be found when a second incision will
be made. The stomach, intestine, and anus were all connected. The stomach was located above the
pelvic fin and below the lateral line, it appeared to be a tannish sack. The stomach's job is to receive
food from the pharynx, it can expand to fit the needed size for food to pass through. Within

Overfishing: Fish Stocks
Overfishing
Most of the problems associated with overfishing have been caused in the last 50 years by the rapid
advances in fishing technology. There used to be hundreds of trawlers and fishing boats based at
ports like Peterhead, Grimsby and Great Yarmouth, but these have now been replaced by huge
factory ships which are able to stay out at sea for weeks at a time. These factory boats have all the
equipment necessary either to freeze or tin fish caught by their hunting ships, so that they need to
return to base only when their holds are full.
With the introduction of the new factory boats, there was a 7% growth in catches every year during
the 1950's and 60's, but since then there has been little increase in catch size, and at least ... Show

On the Dagger Bank, off the east coast of England near Great Yarmouth, overfishing caused the
annual catch of herring to fall 30–fold in just 15 years. By 1966, only 10,000 tonnes of the fish were
caught in the whole year. Further north, a ban was placed on herring fishing, and in 1977, a total ban
was placed on herring fishing, throughout the North Sea. The ban lasted for six years.
These are just a few examples of how overfishing can seriously affect not only the fish stocks, but
also the livelihoods of many people who depend on fishing as a job. There is a delicate balance to be
struck between catching large numbers of fish so as to make more money and ensuring that there are
enough fish left alive to be able to replenish stocks for future years. It is human nature to try to make
as much money as possible, but this has to be weighed against the economic hardship that whole
communities have suffered as a result of overexploiting their own fisheries, not to mention the grave
consequences of overfishing for fish populations.
The Effects of Overfishing on Other Wildlife.
The overfishing of a particular species does not just damage the population of that fish alone. It can
have serious effects further up the food chain. Herring is a vital prey species for the cod.

Betta Fish
Having a betta fish is fun and enjoyable. A betta fish brings happiness to every home. However,
some betta fish owners struggle with taking care of their fish. This is because they do not know how
to take care of it. This could make the fish unhealthy and lead to it's death, which would be
miserable to everyone. There are a few simple steps to taking care of a betta fish. These easy steps
will help you take care of your betta fish and keep it healthy and happy. The first step to having a
happy betta fish is buying all the things you need. You should buy a fish tank, betta fish food, water
conditioner for fish, and a betta fish. Buying things such as decorative small rocks and fake small
plants to put in the fish tank is optional. If you buy these make sure they fit in the fish tank and that
water and the fish will also be able to fit. The fish will need to be in a container filled with water.
The thing you will not need to buy from the store is tap water. Tap water will come from your sink.

Florida Fish Problems
The influence of the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulfstream in Southwest Florida Waters make the
temperature just right for literally hundreds of different kinds of fish. In 2011, "Florida's recreational
anglers caught roughly 121 million marine fish, 74 million of which were released." These statistics
support the notion that fishing may be one of the most loved hobbies. Since fishing efforts have
been drastically increasing over the years, dozens of species are threatened with extinction and
many more are experiencing serious population declines. In order to ensure that a fish's populations
will remain sustainable for future generations, anglers need regulations that will sustain the
existence of a fish population.
In 1999, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, or FWC, was funded in order to
manage and regulate Florida's fish and wildlife resources. Their mission was "To manage fish ...

In 'The Fish', poem is based on the old fish and the setting is in a rental boat, when speaker went for
fishing. He or she catch a giant fish. It is still partly in the water and hanging through the hook,
which is still under its mouth. It is so sad and surprised for speaker by observing that the fish is not
fighting or struggling for its life. It is just hanging there without flapping. A skin of the fish is brown
in color and stripy texture, so speaker compare with ancient wallpaper. He use the word 'homely',
now it make sense the color and texture of the fish is kind of unattractive for the speaker. The fish is
ugly but respectful creature. Outlook of the fish, specially its skin, Bishop compare with beautiful

The Fish Figurative Language
In the poem "The fish" it uses allot of figurative language. For example in stanza one line one "I
caught a tremendous fish" The author uses figurative language by using Hyperbole. I believe so
because she says she caught a tremendous fish. When you think about it the word tremendous is
pretty huge. I believe the word "tremendous" brings an exciting tone to the poem. Also in stanza two
lines 5 and 6 "Here and there his brown skin hung in strips" "like ancient wallpaper" I believe the
author uses simile. I do so because he compares to things using the word "like" By using the words
"brown skin" and "ancient wallpaper" brings an old image to the fish and a tone of detail. Also in
stanza 5 it says "the dramatic reds and blacks" "of his shiny entrails"

Elizabeth Bishop The Fish
The Fish's Image
With fewer than fifty published poems Elizabeth Bishop is not one of the most prominent poets of
our time. She is however well known for her use of imagery and her ability to convey the narrator's
emotions to the reader. In her vividly visual poem "The Fish", the reader is exposed to a story
wherein the use of language not only draws the reader into the story but causes the images to
transcend the written work. In the poem, Bishop makes use of numerous literary devices such as
similes, adjectives, and descriptive language. All of these devices culminate in the reader
experiencing a precise and detailed mental image of the poem's setting and happenings.
One of the most prevalent of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mood is actually that of revelry in the moment, and toward the end we are given the sense that
the narrator is overwhelmed by the power of the situation. This is shown to us by the repeated use of
a single word and a well placed exclamation point in lines 74–75 "until everything / was rainbow,
rainbow, rainbow!" From this sentence we get a sense that the level of excitement is rising, and the
narrator is becoming caught up in the moment. In the last line of the poem the narrator makes a
simple yet powerful statement; "And I let the fish go." After reading the rest of the poem we can see
that the simplicity of this final statement is rather deceiving. By allowing the narrator to show the
fish mercy the author once again connects the audience to the story via our previous feelings of
sympathy for the fish.
So as you can see there are many ways that an author can use literary devices, or even simple
punctuation, to express to the reader a myriad of emotions and situations. This all leads to the
conclusion that the power and use of language is as important to the story, as the story

Bony Fish And The Fish
Class Osteichthyes, the biggest class of vertebrates with more than 29,000 species, comprises of the
bony fish . These fish have a skeleton much stiffer than the cartilaginous fish since it is fortified by
calcium salts. Bony fish have fantastic smell like cartilaginous fish, yet not at all like the different
classes of fish, bony fish additionally have intense visual perception. Bony fish additionally have
adaptations that permit them to stay buoyant. A unique organ called a swim bladder housed under
the hard skeleton is a gas filled chamber that permits the hard fish to stay coasting in the water.
Another adaption is the operculum, a fold on every side of the fish that covers the chambers lodging
the gills. A bony fish can inhale without swimming just by moving the operculum. Different signs of
these fish are matched blades, numerous teeth, dermal scales in the skin (in many species), and
various vertebrae. Most bony fish are beam finned fish, implying that they have slim, adaptable
skeletal beams. Lobe finned fish, the other sort of bony fish, have solid balances upheld by bones.
There is only one type of Lobe finned fish left, the coelacanth, still lives. In any case, it was the lobe
finned fish that made the colonization of area.
Chondrichthyes live for the most part in marine areas yet couple of species live in freshwater. Some
characterizing qualities of Chondrichthyes are internal fertilization by the utilization of pelvic

  • 9. The Fish Figurative Language "The Fish" by Elizabeth Bishop is about a fisherman who was joyful to have caught a tremendous fish. However throughout the poem, the fisherman examine the fish closer and realize how special it is. Admires that it's no ordinary fish because of the injuries and scars from battles faced from previous fishermens. Respects his power to survive and releases the fish as it deserves another chance. The speaker uses diction and figurative language such as similes and imagery to reveal the change in attitude toward the fish by describing the struggles it has been through and characteristics of the fish. The change in attitude towards the fish begins on line 22, where the speaker uses diction to describe the struggle and condition the fish is in. "While his gills were breathing in the terrible oxygen –– the frightening gills"(22). Usually when we think of oxygen, it is valuable because it's necessary for us to live. However, in this case to a fish it's the opposite. The use of terrible helps the reader to image the fish trying to stay alive and why the speaker is concerned. Also uses imagery to describe the fish's struggle "Grim, wet, and weaponline, hung five old pieces of fish line... and a wire leader with the swivel still attached"(50). • 11. The Fish By Elizabeth Bishop When an individual looks at an animal, does he see an object or a living breathing individual? In "The Fish," Elizabeth Bishop turns an everyday object such as a fish into a battle scarred war hero in the eyes of the reader. Societies various perspectives on the consumptions of living animas has influenced the preconception the speaker has on living animals. With her previous knowledge of fishes and her use of personification, she creates a new ideology on how to view living animals. This becomes the main transformation the speaker has on her fishing journey. Ultimately in "The Fish," the theme of morality is contemplated as the speaker changes her perspective on the symbolic fish, and in doing so it changes the reader's preconceptions on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From reading the poem, the reader is aware of how descriptive Bishop is with her observations. Furthermore, the way the speaker depicts each description is very important observation. Carlson writes, "Bishop anthropomorphizes the fish, calling it 'he' throughout" (82). This introduces the fish as a male figure and begins to characterize it away from being more than just an object. This introduces the idea of personification by how Bishop begins to characterize the fish. In addition, Bishop writes, "I admired his sullen face, / the mechanism of his jaw" (45–46). Here we see Bishop starts to admire the human like characteristics the fish has. Carlson says, "It is the human subjectivity to which Bishop responds...describing the fish's ability to attract her sympathy in anthropomorphic–and gendered–terms" (82). In other words by characterizing the fish as male and describing him in a human–like form, Bishop creates a sympathetic attraction to the fish in the reader and the speaker. We see a sense of connection in Bishop's quote when he says," I looked into his eyes / which were larger than mine / but shallower, and yellowed, / the iris backed and packed / with tarnished tinfoil seen through the lenses / of old scratched isinglass" (34–40). • 13. The Fish Story Symbolism The fish in "Fish Story" symbolizes a transitional period for the boy, who acts as the narrator. Many times it is said that your eyes are the windows to your soul, in "Fish Story" the fish's eyes acted as a symbolic window into the narrator's soul. Being a boy of 10 years old he is suspended between the world of childhood innocence and raw uncensored adulthood. From early on the boy connects with the fish as he is describing the fish's eyes, "The fish, in turn, studied me with its round, obsidian eyes, which had a gold lining to their perimeter, like pyrite" (p. 1, par. 5, Bass, 2009). This shows the amount of consideration that the boy puts into the fish. He sees it as more than that of a meal or payment of a debt. He continues to connect ... In fact, the actions of the partygoers that night the narrator largely attributes to the alcohol consumed, if not directly, he makes mention of the fact it is present several times throughout the story. As he is forced into the harsh reality of adulthood he notices the fish changing too, once again in the fish's eyes, "I kept watering the fish. The gasps were coming slower and I felt that perhaps a fire was going out in the fish's eyes" (p. 3, par. 22, Bass, 2009). Just as the water is turned off by Jack's dad, the narrator's innocence starts a downward spiral. He no longer has that lifeline to the fish. He starts seeing changes in the fish's appearance "Immediately, or so it seemed to me, a fine wrinkling appeared on the previously taut gunmetal skin of the fish–a desiccation, like watching a time–lapse motion picture of a man's or woman's skin wrinkling as he or she ages, regardless of the man's or woman's wishes to the contrary" (p. 3, par. 24, Bass, 2009). With this reference he is implying the desire to stay young and to not age, to not be aware of the eventual end. • 15. Little Fish Symbols During the eighties, I used to see little fish emblems on bumper stickers every time I went driving. I understood that the symbol related to Christianity in some way but I didn't know its exact meaning. Because I was not a Christian, seeing this symbol everywhere I looked made me feel like an outsider in my community. Another phenomenon I noticed was that there were many other bumper stickers making fun of the fish symbol. Whatever I felt about the symbol at the time, I felt that mocking it was not appropriate. For example, some people put little fish with legs on bumper stickers and the word "Darwin" inside. Still, others countered that image by showing a big fish with the word "Truth" on it eating a Darwin fish. Others had various different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That afternoon he saw a fisherman standing in the lake holding a mirror. Attached to the handle of the mirror was a large net. "Excuse me" Jay said "but what are you doing?" "I'm fishing of coarse" came the reply. "With a mirror?" Jay asked thinking the man was crazy. "Yep it's my latest invention and this time I'm going to make a fortune!" the man said. She narrates a fishing experience. The author is out in a rented boat on a body of water, presumably a lake. She tries to describe the fish to the fullest, which appears to be the purpose of the poem, without saying either the specie or an approximate age. The narration gives the impression that the fish is slightly old. In line 10, skin/strips are assonants and also the speaker uses hung again which she used earlier in line 7 to reiterate that the fish is dying. The fish hanging on both describes its age as well as its weight. There is also repetition of "rainbow" four times, lines 69 and 75, which shows that she had a "vision" or a transformation that caused her to release the fish. The author's diction is easy to understand, not complicated fisherman dialect. In lines 8 and 9, she uses words that offer a precise description of the fish, "battered and venerable and homely". • 27. Descriptive Experience Of Fish Version 2: 5 fish, mean fish, dead fish, no fish! I opened the black hatch on the lid of the fish tank. Turning open the lid of the plastic container, I reached inside and took out a pinch of the musty–smelling fish food flakes. I sprinkled the flakes over the water in the fish tank and watched as the 5 fish swam up, gulping up the thin copper, crimson, and mahogany colored flakes. I watched until the fish swam away, finished with their meal. My family had bought 5 glimmering fish, a bag of fish care supplies, and when we got home, my mom and dad took the old fish tank we had in our garage, and much to my delight, set it up in my room, on top of a low bookcase. One day, me and my mom both saw something odd in the fish tank.. One of the fish, a huge fish with silver colored scales, was pecking at some of the smaller fish, causing a couple of their scales to fall off and drift around in the water. Me and my sister started calling that fish the,"mean fish." Later, I walked in my room to see that the mean fish was now stuck inside a fishbowl! Examples of Species: Lanternfish, flashlight fish, anglerfish, tripod fish, giant squid, and others. In order to survive and reproduce, the abyssal animals developed necessary adaptation (anatomical and behavioral) to suit the deep water environment. A Northern pike has a duck billed snout and yellow bean shaped spots, where a buffalo fish has a downturned mouth with thick lips and a paddlefish has a paddle like snout and are plankton feeders. A bullhead has a rounded tail; however, a catfish has a forked tail. A largemouth bass and a rock bass are in the sunfish family, yet can be identified by looking at the upper jaw that extends past the eye of the largemouth bass and the bloodshot eyes of the rock bass. The sunfish family, which is also composed of the bluegill, green sunfish, and redear sunfish, can be identified by looking at the opercular flap; a bluegill has a solid black flap, a green sunfish has a black flap with a white or yellow edge, and a redear sunfish has a black flap with a red edge. A walleye is identified by looking at the tail fin; it has a white margin on lower lobe of the tail fin. Fish are also identified as being ancient or modern. • 51. Marine Fish Overfishing A predominant resource in our oceans are fish and other marine species. In recent times, fish have been caught with less effort due to new technologies, improved equipment and human's need for money. Fishermen have started capturing fish at a faster rate than they can be reproduced. This is known as overfishing which leads to degradation of our oceans. The fishing industry is growing as the demand for seafood is increasing. This leads to many negative issues, the main issue being the loss of species and ecosystems which can lead to humans losing such a valuable source of food. What makes matters worse is that other marine species are caught and destroyed for no purpose in the process. Scientists predict the commercial extinction of marine life if this trend continues. This raises the question "should more be done to sustainably manage ocean fishing?" Fishing is destroying marine biodiversity. When it comes to balancing the ecosystem, every single plant and animal have a role to play. Marine creatures are dependent on other organisms in order to thrive. The oceanic ecosystem contains complex interlinked systems where organisms rely on their own niche for survival. As the world's population's demand for seafood increases so does commercial fishing. Violeta Curameng Abstract In the Gulf of Mexico a variety of marine environments can be utilized by fish. Common environments include Coral reefs and Sargassum. An assortment of fish can inhabit these environments but which environment they live in depends on their life history. Histrio histrio (Sargassum Fish) live in the Sargassum and Caranx Crysos (Blue Runner) live in the open water near reefs. Natural mortality of these species can be linked to their distribution and their life history strategies. Introduction In the Gulf of Mexico there are many different marine habitats that reside in its waters. From reef environments to floating Sargassum, a diverse variety of fishes can be found. Sargassum, is a type of brown algae that consists of two species, S. natans and S. fluitans (Rooker 2006). Sargassum has been linked to primary and secondary production and can also be a hot spot of production which would be an ideal habitat for pelagic fishes (Peres 1982). Coral reefs are a habitat that are common in the Gulf of Mexico, such as, the Flower Garden Banks (NOAA 2017). There are also many artificial reefs in the gulf that provide shelter for many fish species (Bull 1994). Of these habitats fish such as, Histrio histrio (Sargassum Fish) and Caranx crysos (Blue Runner) are abundant. H. histrio can be found hidden in the Sargassum environments while ... There used to be hundreds of trawlers and fishing boats based at ports like Peterhead, Grimsby and Great Yarmouth, but these have now been replaced by huge factory ships which are able to stay out at sea for weeks at a time. These factory boats have all the equipment necessary either to freeze or tin fish caught by their hunting ships, so that they need to return to base only when their holds are full. Further north, a ban was placed on herring fishing, and in 1977, a total ban was placed on herring fishing, throughout the North Sea. The ban lasted for six years. • 67. The Fish Figurative Language In the poem "The fish" it uses allot of figurative language. For example in stanza one line one "I caught a tremendous fish" The author uses figurative language by using Hyperbole. I believe so because she says she caught a tremendous fish. When you think about it the word tremendous is pretty huge. I believe the word "tremendous" brings an exciting tone to the poem. Also in stanza two lines 5 and 6 "Here and there his brown skin hung in strips" "like ancient wallpaper" I believe the author uses simile. I do so because he compares to things using the word "like" By using the words "brown skin" and "ancient wallpaper" brings an old image to the fish and a tone of detail. Also in stanza 5 it says "the dramatic reds and blacks" "of his shiny entrails" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is shown to us by the repeated use of a single word and a well placed exclamation point in lines 74–75 "until everything / was rainbow, rainbow, rainbow!" From this sentence we get a sense that the level of excitement is rising, and the narrator is becoming caught up in the moment. In the last line of the poem the narrator makes a simple yet powerful statement; "And I let the fish go." After reading the rest of the poem we can see that the simplicity of this final statement is rather deceiving. By allowing the narrator to show the fish mercy the author once again connects the audience to the story via our previous feelings of sympathy for the fish. So as you can see there are many ways that an author can use literary devices, or even simple punctuation, to express to the reader a myriad of emotions and situations. This all leads to the conclusion that the power and use of language is as important to the story, as the story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
