Contested Plains by Elliot West
There are many ways in which we can view the history of the American West. One view is the
popular story of Cowboys and Indians. It is a grand story filled with adventure, excitement and gold.
Another perspective is one of the Native Plains Indians and the rich histories that spanned thousands
of years before white discovery and settlement. Elliot West's book, Contested Plains: Indians,
Goldseekers and the Rush to Colorado, offers a view into both of these worlds. West shows how the
histories of both nations intertwine, relate and clash all while dealing with complex geological and
environmental challenges. West argues that an understanding of the settling of the Great Plains must
come from a deeper understanding, a more thorough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drastic changes occur in the flora due to weather and subsequently lead to the disappearance of
many animal species and with these changes, the people adapted. For thousands of years the plains
would evolve, change and create a, "history of movement and adjustment, crisis and resolution" .
One extreme change for the Indians was the arrival of Anglo–Europeans. Native peoples' lives were
changed at the blink of an eye while new ideas, practices and beliefs were shown to them. The
arrival of the Europeans changed the way the Indians viewed their world and manipulated their
resources. This new change could be viewed as positive as well as negative, for while some tribes
entered into trade relations with the Anglos, others were used as slave labor and all were subject to
disease brought on by the European newcomers. However, despite all the advantages and
disadvantages, no other introduction changed the lives of the Indians more than firearms and horses.
West outlines one of the most important evolutions for Native life and how it represented a new way
to harness resources and gain power. In just a few chapters, we are able to see the great
advancements the Indians made in hunting and trade due to these new technologies and how they
allowed the Cheyennes to rise to a new purpose as the Called Out People. Part Two follows the Gold
Rush and shows how energy and power shaped the

An Anonymous Rape Survivor 's Story
"It wasn't rape you were being such a tease." "NO I said. I covered my vagina with both of my
hands and I said NO! I was with a close male friend and I thought I was safe. I thought I was safe
when I went out drinking with said friend and I thought I was safe when we went to my place to
"hangout." This is an anonymous rape survivor's story. These common occurrences affect a fair
portion of the population in Missoula, in comparison to the national average, and something should
be done. There is also a low number of people who are there to support and help the survivors of
sexual assault. According to city–data.com in 2014 the rape rate in Missoula was 68.9% and the U.S
average was 27.2% per 100,000 pop. Missoula's rape rate has increased every year with a staggering
22.4% increase from 2013. While the U.S average increased by only 0.4% from 2013. During 2011
Missoula was also named the rape capital of America. (Crime Rate in Missoula, Montana). With that
being said, why is Missoula the only city with a target on their back? The New York Times reported
that a series of events led to a Federal Justice Department investigation into how the university, the
City of Missoula, and Missoula County handle the reporting of sexual assaults. "This is a problem
that every college campus in America experiences, every community experiences at some level, so
it's not unique to the University of Montana," UM President Royce Engstrom said. The stats of rape

Bless Me Ultima By Rudolfo Anaya
Bless Me Ultima
Topic #2
Abid Ahmad
Abid Ahmad #1 An essential part of someone 's life is a place where they are left alone with their
own thoughts, not being judged by anyone or anything outside of them. In many cases, this sense of
safety can only be found within themselves, because their world is being torn apart by outside
influences that have little regard for their own perspective. Similarly, this is ever–present with
Antonio and his family in the book Bless Me Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. In almost every aspect ,
Antonio 's family persistently attempts to influence him to their own accord, with even his brothers
becoming distant memories that left him and expecting him to fulfill his parents ' antithetical wishes.

While his mom argued it would be best for him to become a Luna and be connected to the Earth, his
father's side argued that the Marez blood inside of him would compel him to become a vaquero, free
to roam the grassy plains and not being shackled by anything. His dream encapsulated the idea of
his thinking and identity being imposed on him literally from birth. A child's mind is like clay that
can be molded in an infinite amount of directions. The absolutely worst thing a person could do to
this flower of growth is to put it in a box that restricts it from germinating on its own. The only
saving grace that Tonie found in this dream was Ultima, who eloquently scolded both sides of the
family in saying that only she knows what Antonio will become in life. This concept of Antonio's
parents tearing him apart from either side and Ultima giving him the peace of mind of his own
critical thinking is a recurring theme. As Antonio's mother and father were simultaneously
attempting to pull him to completely opposite shores of happiness, they created a chasm of
uncertainty that Antonio had become very susceptible to crashing through. Unfortunately, the people
furthest away from Antonio only increased the pressure on his shoulders. Antonio had a deep
admiration for all three of his brothers that went off to war.Since his brothers were gone for so long,
they are portrayed as distant characters that were always so far away

Scarface Film Analysis
The Gangster film 'Scarface' (DePalma) is about the rise and eventual fall of Cuban immigrant, Tony
Montana. Throughout the film the viewer witnesses how Tony Montana goes from a criminal in
Cuba to a drug overlord in America. The average viewer cannot connect to the arc of Tony Montana.
But, the average viewer can connect to what Tony Montana is working for, the American dream.
Brain DePalma chooses purposefully to have a hyper–masculine, narcissistic, megalomaniac
immigrant as the main character of a story of American dream. In 'Scarface', DePalma show the
universality of the American dream. By utilizing various filming techniques, DePalma shows how
the American dream is available for everyone. DePalma utilizes zooming and film cuts to show how
the American dream is for everyone. Scarface, following the traditional film three act narrative
structure, ends it second act with Tony Montana immediately after executing his old boss. The
camera opens on a close up of Tony Montana. The camera then cuts to a shot of a moving blimp
saying, 'The World is Yours'. Before the blimp's message can move to an advertisement, the camera
then cuts back to Tony Montana, holds for a few seconds, the zooms out to a long shot
encompassing the entire house. DePalma purposefully chooses to film this scene this way. Opening
on a close up of Tony Montana show the audience that he is the focus of the scene. When the camera
cuts to the slogan on the blimp the audience enters the eyes of Tony Montana for cut. They see the
slogan the same way Tony Montana sees it. When the camera zooms out and shows the entire house
and Tony Montana's new wife, the audience understands that Tony Montana now has everything he
could ever want. By keeping Tony Montana in the center of the frame, the audience can remember
Tony Montana from the beginning of the film and see how far he has come. The audience can then
see that Tony Montana has achieved the American dream. DePalma utilizes zooming and film cuts
to show how the American dream is for everyone. In addition to panning and zooming, DePalma
also utilizes long takes to show how the American dream is for everyone. The average shot length,
or the average of the length of all the shots in a film, in

Gun, Germs, And Steel By Jared Diamond
Jared Diamond is a Geography professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has many
fields of interest ranging from physiology to evolutionary biology and biogeography . Adding to
that, Diamond also has published countless articles and authored multiple books. His most decorated
book "Guns, Germs, and Steel", won the Pulitzer Prize in 1998 and is widely regarded as a
groundbreaking scientific work.
In the prologue of "Collapse", Jared Diamond claims that his previous book "Guns, Germs, and
Steel" focused on the buildup of societies over the last 13,000 years and his present book 'Collapse"
focuses on the factors that cause failure and survival in civilizations all across the world2." Diamond
analyzes the breakdown of all societies through a unique scale called the five–point framework. This
framework considers environmental damage, climate change, hostile neighbors, friendly trade
partners, and most importantly society's response to its environmental problems. Every society he
studies he applies this framework to determine a possible flaw in the collapse of the society. The
novel starts with Montana's current environmental problems and evaluates societies as ancient as the
Mayans and as recent as Modern China.
Unlike its award–winning predecessor, "Guns, Germs, and Steel", "Collapse" was not met with the
same success in sales or in professional reviews. Although still a successful book, it did not earn as
much recognition and sometimes presented feeble

Pristine Contentment Essay
Gretel Ehrlich describes her move to Wyoming as awakening from a nap, satisfied in her new home
she becomes absorbed in its tranquility and indifference. She is reborn, starts anew and creates a
new life for herself. Ehrlich even cut her hair and buys new clothes to create a "new"
and different person. To read and understand this essay means looking deeper into the author's story
of rebirth, and how the big Wyoming skies were healing and put things into perspective for her.
Thus, improving her quality of life without any fillers or distractions.
Ehrlich's purpose for being in Wyoming, is best described in the quote, "I suspect that my
original motive for coming here was to "lose myself" in new and unpopulated ... Show

The air between people is charged. Days unfold, bathed in their own music. Nights become
hallucinatory; dreams, prescient." Now it seems that Ehrlich finds that she has no use for
unnecessary words when it comes to interacting with the people around her. She explains that there
is no vocabulary for the subject of feelings, so, everything that is said is meaningful, even the mere
presence of someone is highly significant. This tells the reader that empty inconsequential chitchat
no longer exists in Ehrlich's world creating a constant consequential silence that is quite sincere.
Another significant part of the essay is when Ehrlich describes fillers, which is Ehrlich's main point
of the essay. This is really relevant to today's society, culture and even pertinent in my view on
things. Ehrlich states, "We have a cultural tendency toward denial, but, being affluent, we
strangle ourselves with what we can buy. We have only to look at the houses we build to see how we
build against space, the way we drink against pain and loneliness. We fill up space as if it were a pie
shell, with things whose opacity further obstructs our ability to see what is already there." The
American stereotype views the quality and importance of their lives based on material objects.
Example, I'll be happy if I live in a four–story mansion and drive a Mercedes. Ehrlich declares that
life and happiness come from within and being satisfied by who you are, building yourself up

Essay on Reintroducing the Wolf to Yellowstone
Reintroducing the Wolf to Yellowstone
Wolves have always been a symbol of the wild, free in spirit and roamers of the land. These animals
are considered majestic and protectors of the wilderness. They have always roamed the western
United States, although their population has fluctuated over time. Over the past 10 years wolf
reintroduction into Yellowstone National Park has been a controversial topic to those of the United
States. As of 1995, wolves have been reintroduced into the park. This has come with some strong
opposition and yet has prevailed. The future of the wolf in Yellowstone park is now looking bright,
although not certain since there still are those who want them banished again.

Created in 1872 by the department of the Interior, the park was developed by congress for
preservation of its "natural curiosities or wonders and prohibiting wanton destruction of its fish and
game" (defenders). Wolves were protected in Yellowstone.
Wolves lived in the park for forty years, with claimed increasing nuisance to outsiders. The people
around Yellowstone were complaining that the wolves, basically a nuisance to society, were killing
animal. Thus after discussions and studies, congress agreed and the wolf extermination began. In
1914, the "Yellowstone wolf extirpation campaign began after congress appropriated funds for
'destroying wolves, prairie dogs, and other animals injurious to agriculture and animal husbandry' on
public lands" (defenders). The killing of wolves continued until 1926 when the last two wolf pups of
some 136 wolves were killed on a poisoned bison carcass (defenders). The eradication of wolves by
hunting and other means soon cleared out most wolves in all areas of the United States. "By the
1940's humans had eliminated red and gray wolves from almost all of their historic range in the
contiguous 48 states" (Noecker).
For a number of years the wolves were not missed by most people, the ranchers and farmers were
happy to have the pests gone. Coyotes,

Montana Fish Synthesis Essay
Alexis Bonogofsky wrote about "reports of dead fish floating and collecting on the banks of the
iconic Yellowstone River began coming into Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) in early
August. The Yellowstone flows for 692 miles from Absaroka mountain range in Wyoming, through
Yellowstone National Park, into the prairies of eastern Montana and finally, the Missouri River.
FWP officials took tissue samples from the dead fish to the US Fish and Wildlife Service Fish
Health Center in nearby Bozeman, Montana. The whitefish were found to have died from
Proliferative Kidney Disease (PKD), which is caused by a microscopic parasite known to occur in
Canada, the United States and Europe. PKD kills fish by causing extreme inflammation in their
kidneys and spleen. In the past 20 years, smaller and isolated outbreaks of the disease have occurred

In other words, it takes less energy to raise the temperature of the salt water 1°C than pure water.
And in the winter time, adding salt to the ice lowers its freezing point, so even more energy has to
be absorbed from the environment in order for it to melt.
AltonGas claims they monitor the river for dry weather conditions in Nova Scotia. In an article on

During the dry weather conditions in Nova Scotia in the summer of 2016, salinity levels in the river

brining operations at Alton are automatically stopped to protect the river. At this time, water will
continue to be circulated in the cavern and brining activity will be temporarily suspended.
To check salinity levels in the river, there are salinity monitors upstream and downstream of the
brine release point to constantly measure the river in real time. The monitors also control the brine

The Yellowstone Wolf Controversy Essay
One of the biggest reasons for the reintroduction of wolves back into Yellowstone was that they had
originally roamed from Yellowstone all the way down to Mexico. While a lot of people were in
favor of the reintroduction of the wolves, there were many who were against it. The main people
who were against the reintroduction of the wolves back into the park were the ranchers who made a
living in the areas surrounding the park.
During 70 years of absence from the Rockies, the Grey Wolf had been protected under the
Endangered Species Act that was passed in 1973. Since the wolf is under the protection of
Endangered Species Act a person could be punished with up to a $100,000 fine and up to 1 year in
jail for killing a wolf. Back in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this plan they decided on three areas in which to reintroduce wolves; Northwest Montana, the
Yellowstone Ecosystem, and Central Idaho. In 1987 they released another plan that was more
detailed than the first few. The recovery goal for the Grey Wolf was ten breeding pairs per area,
which meant ten packs of ten wolves, or 100 total. With the release of the 1987 plan, a lot of
opposition was raised.
For the first time in 70 years, the howl of the Grey Wolf is being heard throughout Yellowstone Park
(Sanders, 2000). In January of 1995, 14 wolves from separate packs in Canada were trapped and
transported to Yellowstone. Once in the park the wolves were placed in one acre acclimation pens.
In total there were three pens scattered across the northern portion of Yellowstone: one a Crystal
Creek, another at Rose Creek, and the last at Soda Butte. During the wolves time spent in these pens
they were fed winter kill, or road kill. The packs that were formed in these pens were released in the
winters of 1995–1996 and also again in 1996–1997 for a second release period (Sanders, 2000). In
1995 fourteen wolves were released and in 1996 seventeen were released. In 1997 there were 64
pups born and since 1995, 33 wolves have died in the Yellowstone area.
With the reintroduction of the Grey Wolf into the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem there have been
many people who are opposed. Mainly the ranchers in Montana

is just cold to strangers. It is not known if she has any inner desire to make peace with her habits, as
she evidently sad at the life she is leading.
C. Comparison
The film has a notable distinction in its characters. The Godfather has the honor of having a more

The Blackfeet of the Americas
Who are the Blackfeet and how do they refer to themselves Though referred to as the Blackfeet or
Blackfoot, they prefer to refer to themselves as the Nitsitapiksi, which means "Real People." This
term is not only used by the Blackfeet to refer to themselves but to all First Peoples of the Americas
(Ni–tsi–ta–pi–ksi, The Blackfoot Gallery Committee, 2001, 3). The Blackfoot Nation is a
confederacy of three Nations, the Kainai, the Pikani and Siksika (The Blackfoot Gallery Committee,
2001, 2/3). These three Nations however are more commonly referred to in mainstream literature as
the Blood, Peigan, and the Northern Blackfoot or the Blackfeet of Montana and are not the terms
chosen by the Blackfeet Nations to refer to them selves (The Blackfoot Gallery Committee, 2001,
2). This terminology, it would appear results from mistranslations of Blackfoot words, or names
given to the Blackfeet from neighboring First Nations (source). For example the term Peigan is
believed to have originated from an English mispronunciation of Pikani. How the Kainai ( which
translates into "Many Leaders") became known as the Blood Nation has many explanations, one is
that it describes the term Aapaitsitapi by the Cree due to the ceremonial paint which was used on the
face and hands which looked like blood. A second explanation is that the term in fact referred the
weasel pelts the Kanai wore and it was mistranslated to mean the blood peoples (Bastien 2004, 10).
Siksika is a literal translation of

Type of Ecosystem Being Restored and Site Conditions.. Spotted knapweed prefer habitats that
consist of gravel/sandy soils, full sun, arid conditions in course soil, disturbed areas, and is tolerant
to nutrient poor soils (Montana Weed Control Association (MTWEED), n.d.). The SKCP broke the
river down into three sections, all have the same spotted knapweed concerns and goals, but have
slightly different soil ecosystems. The first section starts at the headwaters and runs to Nye, MT (See
Attachment 6) about river mile 35; this stretch contains faster moving stretches of rapids, but also
areas that are very slow moving and slough. The higher river banks in the faster moving areas have
rockier soil, and more drastic soil erosion caused by spotted knapweed. The slow areas and sloughs,
like near Lake Sioux Charley (See Attachment 7), the largest moving slough, have moist, less rocky
soil, and not as conducive growing environment for spotted knapweed. This area is primarily back
country, already designated trails, and is deeply wooded in some areas, but is the least of the SKCP
concern. The second section runs from Nye, MT to the Rosebud River, about river mile 12. The
calmer, clearer water, with more gradual river banks, significantly more arid gravel bars, open sunny
landscape, are all prime growing areas for spotted knapweed and the highest area of concern. It is
also considered outstanding fly fishing waters, which creates more foot traffic on the river banks,
creating more disturbed areas. The last section, runs from Rosebud River to the Yellowstone River,
river mile 0. This section has significantly more rapids (famous area for whitewater rafting) and
higher river banks, with the largest amount of private property along the river. The soil in this
section is rocky and has primarily open sunny landscape, both are great growing environment for
spotted knapweed. This area also receives the water from the Rosebud River, creating a larger

A variety of animals were used in the subsistence strategy, including but not limited to: Bison, deer,
elk, pronghorn antelope, various canids, marten, goose, frog, and clams (Buchner 1981, Millar 1981,
Cole 2015). The Plains Bison was the primary food source for the Oxbow group, leading them to
follow the seasonal round of the bison to some extent, especially at more southern sites. This said,
no major bison kill sites associated with Oxbow have been found, only small scale kills, which gives
rise to many questions, such as: did this group know how to run a large scale kill site? did they use
different technologies? or were there not enough mammals to run a larger kill?, all of which are
rather hard to answer given only the archaeological record. This nomadic hunting and gathering
subsistence strategy also encouraged foraging for certain flora based foods, especially in times
where bison were not able to be procured. Oxbow tools and associated artifacts reflect this

Scarface Film Analysis
1. Though the initial reviews were mixed, time has proven the film's popular appeal. More than
twenty years after its release, Scarface continues to be a rental favorite, a standard campus feature,
and a late–night TV standard. How can the notion of the general welfare be used to justify giving
big bucks to the stars making the film: actor Al Pacino, director Brian De Palma, and writer Oliver
Stone?
At a very basic level the film is obviously something that people enjoy seeing, often over and over
again. If you accounted for the accumulated hours that individuals have spent watching Scarface it
would certainly seem like people involved in the film should be paid well. They have managed to
provide entertainment from this single project consistently for over 20 years. It could be compared,
in a sense, to a live actor performing each time you attend a play. I think it's different, but perhaps
comparable on the scale of a film. By paying big bucks, it's representing the portion they'd make
from each attendee's ticket cost and comparable to a team of performers doing the same stellar
performance over and over again.
2. Can you form an argument against the concentration of money in the hands of a very few people
that would work equally well against Al Pacino's (presumed) wealth and Tony Montana's?
I think there is certainly a point where concentrated wealth begins to outweigh societal welfare.
When you look at people who couldn't reasonably spend their wealth on them or their

Transcontinental Railroad In Westward Expansion
In the early 1800s, Americans and immigrants moved to the west for various reasons. These reasons
includes rumors of gold and silver, the transcontinental railroad, and the Homestead Act. A
tremendous reason is push–pull factors. Soon after moving to the west, settlers soon figure out
moving was a not so good decision. In the west, there were prairie fires and unfarmable land.
Disputes rang out between Plain Indians and settlers that were violent. Federal agents to make
agreements/treaties that were considered misunderstanding and fraud. Native Americans forced onto
reservations. The natural world of the American of the West was destroyed by new coming settlers.
There were many hardships and motivations for moving West. For example, hardships for settlers in
the West; and the natural world of the American West. After settling in the west, settlers soon
learned there would be many obstacles. Some settlers overcame these difficulty; whereas others just
went back to the city. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The transcontinental railroad was a major section of desire in the Westward expansion. According to
Document 1, it states "the railroad demonstrated its practicality." This railroad would be a key to
success that would make America more wealthy than any other job or industry. Without the
transcontinental railroad, transporting goods and settlers would be difficult and time–consuming.
Thus the transcontinental railroad was a tremendous impact on motivation for Westward expansion.
Another motivation for Westward expansion is mining for gold and silver. After rumors of gold
spread, settlers came to the West and started placer mining. According to Document 3, two men
found a considerable amount of gold after to in Rich Bar. As a result of this magnificent discovery,
hundreds of miners settle there to find gold. An explanation is a major motivation for Westward

The Arduous Journey Of Discovering Antonio 's Destiny
I decided that "The Arduous Journey to Discovering Antonio's Destiny" is a decent, exceptional title
for my paper, because it gives a brief description on what my paper will be about, Antonio's
expedition on finding his destiny.
1 ½ ) When reading over the assignment rubric, I noticed a few errors. One being in question
number 1, where it says,"How are Samuel, Antonio, and Cico different?". Instead of saying "are"
you would say is. "Is" is singular while "are" is plural, and since it 's talking about each individual, it
would make it singular. 2) Antonio and Cico just saw a golden carp, which is a pagan god according
to Samuel. Witnessing it strongly impacted Antonio, since actually seeing it was as splendid and
impressive as the Catholic God. Previously observing Ultima 's magic and just the thought of the
carp really shows to Tony that there is more to life than what he 's been taught from church and his
mother. After confronting the carp, Antonio realizes that Ultima was able to do things his Catholic
god couldn't, revealing that he would never be fulfilled by his Catholic faith. His friends Samuel and
Cico are all different from each other. Antonio is a Catholic, Samuel tells Antonio about the carp,
and Cico believes in many gods, like the golden carp, and shows it Antonio.
3) In the setting of the novel, it seemed as if the boys and girls were separated in a way, because the
girls had to stay confined indoors while the boys had to go outside, even in the

Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur Oklahoma is a place where many families go to
escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. What many may not know is that the waters in this
area were a treasured resource even before statehood. Native Americans were the first to speak of
the wonderous health benefits of the water and after the arrival of the white man the preservation of
this area would become an issue not only for the Native Americans who discovered it but also for
the settlers who viewed it as an opportunity to become rich. Acquisition of this land would lead to
the founding of Oklahoma's first and last National Park. Originally named Platt National Park, the

River Runs Through It Symbolism
The natural world has an unequivocal power to anything human to make one deeply contemplative,
introspective, and observant of the universe around them. Norman Maclean testifies to this power in
his novella, A River Runs Through It. Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river, Norman Maclean
captures his journey from boy to man through his powerful connection to the Blackfoot River.
Robert Redford's movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of the Blackfoot river,
focuses on the interpersonal relationships Norman develops throughout his life, and how those shape
his character and choices. A River Runs through It encapsulates Norman's coming of age through
the symbolism and parallels he draws between himself and the river, whereas Robert Redford's
adaptation explores Norman's coming of age via his relationships with other people, with the river
as a secondary aspect.
Norman Maclean closes his novella with this powerful statement, "Eventually, all things merge into
one, and a river runs through it. . . under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I
am haunted by waters" (119). In this statement, "one" is the intangible conglomerate of Maclean's
life experiences, thoughts, and memories. Maclean also uses the river to symbolize his life. Thus, he
believes in the end, all his experiences and memories merge into one entity, with his life running
through them. He then connects that his life is built upon those before him because the river [his
life] flows over generations of rock under which are, "the words, and some of the words are theirs"
(119). The people who came before him in his life shaped the environment in which he would grow
up, in turn shaping him. Norman's life would have been very different had older generations for
example, commercialized the river, industrialized the town, or made a plethora of other potential
changes.
Finally, he is "haunted by waters" because they contain the memories and words of everyone
Norman has ever connected with. This demonstrates Norman's deep connection to the river, and how
the way he understands his life is through the river, and without it, cannot find the words to explain
how he has grown accept his life. For Maclean, the river was

Analysis Of Dave Barry'sNorth Dakota Wants Its Place In...
In Dave Barry's satirical essay titled "North Dakota wants its place in the sun", he argues that name
changing is a ridiculous concept. Dave Barry immediately claims that changing the name of an
object, subject, or person doesn't change the identity of said object, subject, or person but rather
temporarily deceives the individual. Throughout his essay, Barry utilizes the rhetorical strategies of
anecdote, hyperbole, and sarcasm to strengthen and support his stance on name changing. Although
Barry's article centers on North Dakota, the author uses anecdotes with common themes to make his
character more reliable and credible, although he is not actually a resident of North Dakota. In
Barry's article, he shifts from talking about North Dakota's name change to his own short story about
Floridians giving cockroaches a new name in order to protect their coveted reputation of paradise.
Barry's anecdote on palmetto bugs helps to strengthen his credibility as he stresses the foolishness of
name changes as shown by the following excerpt "But we Floridians solved that problem by giving
them a new name, 'palmetto bugs', which makes them sound cute and harmless" (Barry Paragraph
8). This anecdote on palmetto bugs makes Barry more of a reliable source because the anecdote
illustrates how Florida experienced a similar phase as North Dakota. Seeing that Barry has lived
through it, he knows from experience that a name change will not always result in a positive
outcome as he states in a

Personal Narrative: Tony Montana
December 25, 2014 that was the day. It was the day that a little frenchie was brought into my life.
Around 2:30 A.M., there he was by the door standing with a big red bow tied around his neck. You
would think coming up with a name is easy in reality it isn't. Two days later, we finally came up
with a name, Tony Montana. Tony is the nicest with a very big heart. He's very friendly and can be
as playful as a child at a park. He's very lovable, always loves to be by your side. Sometimes, he can
get a little too crazy and starts running around the whole house like a mouse being chased by a cat.
My family and I have a very close relationship with Tony. Tony is like a brother to me.
Two years later... it's the middle of summer 2016. It was 80 degrees but it felt like it was 100
degrees. My aunt, Patty, and her husband, Rudy, decided to have a barbeque. My grandma came to
pick up Tony, my sister, Emily, and I. Then, we went to pick up Patty and Rudy after that we were
on our way to Haulover. Everything was unpacked the barbeque officially began. Aluminum foil
was put on the grill and then the seasoned meat was put on the aluminum foil. The aroma of the
good tasty foods filled the air. Twenty minutes later the food was ready. Everybody rushed to get a

father abandoned his family, so Mrs. Montana raises Tony and Gina alone. However, Tony proves
somewhat a copycat of his father, abandoning them 5 years. It was later explained that one reason

Comparison Of 1983 Scarace And Tony Montana
One big difference between the two movies is the main characters. 1932 Scarface's main character

based out of Chicago's south side. In contrast, the 1983 Scarface's main character is a Cuban refugee
named Tony Montana who is based out of Miami. Tony Montana is desperately trying to make it to
the top and he won't stop at anything to get there. Due to being fifty years apart, another big
difference is in the original tony is involved with bootlegging and selling beer. Where as, tony in the
remake is dealing cocaine. This difference shows light on the context of when each movie was
produced and how crime has changed over the years. A noticeable difference

Montana Wildfires Essay
Montana Wildfires
HELENA, Mont. (AP) – Beleaguered firefighters in Montana enjoyed something of a lull in their
battle against dozens of wildfires, but a new blaze near Yellowstone National Park forced the
evacuation of up to 150 homes.
And a firestorm in a remote Idaho forest destroyed most of the buildings at a guest ranch, and
another guest ranch was ordered evacuated.
There were concerns the entire town of Red Lodge, a resort community near Yellowstone in south–
central Montana, might have to be evacuated in the face of the blaze. Wind was expected to gust to
30 mph during the night.

Whether fire crews were in fact able to hold their own Sunday may not be known until officials get
their next look at aerial infrared photos that accurately map the fires' boundaries at night.
``I have a feeling that we'll discover that some of the fires have increased dramatically,'' said E.Lynn
Burkett of the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho. ``There's so many elements out
there working against us – steep canyons, winds that make fires run.''
Gusty wind in central Idaho on Sunday turned one of the blazes in the Frank Church–River of No
Return Wilderness into a firestorm that raced six miles and burned 21 of the 29 buildings at the
Pistol Creek Ranch. The main lodge at the guest ranch was unharmed but 17 cabins were destroyed.
The area had been evacuated long before and no injuries were reported. The fire was one of a group
of fires that have blackened about 117,000 acres some 50 miles northeast of Challis, Idaho.
Authorities ordered the evacuation of another guest ranch 11 miles away and recommended
evacuation of a third.
Elsewhere, a fire burning out of control in South Dakota's Black Hills National Forest might have
been set, a U.S. Forest Service official said Sunday night at a town meeting.
``It probably is human–caused, possibly arson,'' said Mike Lloyd, of the U.S. Forest Service. The
fire has burned an estimated 62,000 acres.

The Eastbound passengers, after spending hours cruising east of the Rocky Mountains with only

windows the passengers were straining to get a glimpse of a brochure promised mountain–any
mountain. The brochures didn't mention much about the thousand miles of Great Plains from Fargo,

The Western Frontier Is An Important Part Of American Society
The Western Frontier is an important part of American society that captures the archetypal curiosity
that ever American has in search of new opportunities. Frederick Jackson Turner's essay titled, "The
Significance of the Frontier in American History" explains the relevance of westward expansion in
the late nineteenth century. Turner describes the western frontier as the "meeting point between
savagery and civilization" because once one crosses the boundary from the East to the West; the
laws of civilization no longer apply. The West is characterized by its lawlessness and violence as the
settlers struggle to stake their claim on the rough terrain (Turner). Two western classics that are
complete polar opposites–Willa Cather's My Antonia and Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian–
both depict the civilized but also the savage aspects of the western frontier. The difficult and ever
changing geography of the American West shapes each character in both stories, since the American
West is a harsh and tedious environment, it allows Darwin's principle of survival of the fittest to be
tested. In My Antonia, the protagonist, Antonia, is shown to the reader through the memory of Jim
Burden as his childhood sweetheart. Antonia represents the captivating and peaceful beauty of the
western prairie even as it endures harsh conditions. On the other hand, Blood Meridian portrays a
horribly savage image of the West, where one is in a dog eat dog world and must choose to kill or be
killed. McCarthy

Have you ever wondered how rich Scarface is? According to sources it is estimated that Scarface's
net worth is $500,000, an amount earned through rapping career, although, Scarface also succeeded
in appearing on big screen in such films as "Original Gangstas" (1996) and "Idiocracy" (2006),

As Akshen, he recorded a single called "Scarface" in 1989 for Troy`s Short Stop Records, a label
which was centered in Houston. Following that release, he joined the rap group Ghetto Boys, after
one member left them. He managed to release an album through the group for a record label called
Rap–a–Lot, "Grip it! On That Other Level" also in 1989. This album turned to be a major
commercial success, and acquired him a fan base, regardless of the violent lyrics of the songs and an
Mtv radio ban. After the album, he changed his name to Scarface; he took the name from the 1983
film "Scarface". In 1991 he released the first album under his new name, called "Mr. Scarface is
Back". With this album, being extremely good accepted by public, his fame grew and eventually
outshined the group, Ghetto Boys. Although his fame grew more and more, with every album next
released, he stayed in the group. Needless is to say that his net worth also was boosted through the
selling of the albums. All this peaked in 2001, when he received an award for Lyricist of the Year at
Source Awards. It is also worth to mention that Scarface became coordinator and president of Def

Contested Plains By Elliot West

  • 1. Contested Plains by Elliot West There are many ways in which we can view the history of the American West. One view is the popular story of Cowboys and Indians. It is a grand story filled with adventure, excitement and gold. Another perspective is one of the Native Plains Indians and the rich histories that spanned thousands of years before white discovery and settlement. Elliot West's book, Contested Plains: Indians, Goldseekers and the Rush to Colorado, offers a view into both of these worlds. West shows how the histories of both nations intertwine, relate and clash all while dealing with complex geological and environmental challenges. West argues that an understanding of the settling of the Great Plains must come from a deeper understanding, a more thorough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drastic changes occur in the flora due to weather and subsequently lead to the disappearance of many animal species and with these changes, the people adapted. For thousands of years the plains would evolve, change and create a, "history of movement and adjustment, crisis and resolution" . One extreme change for the Indians was the arrival of Anglo–Europeans. Native peoples' lives were changed at the blink of an eye while new ideas, practices and beliefs were shown to them. The arrival of the Europeans changed the way the Indians viewed their world and manipulated their resources. This new change could be viewed as positive as well as negative, for while some tribes entered into trade relations with the Anglos, others were used as slave labor and all were subject to disease brought on by the European newcomers. However, despite all the advantages and disadvantages, no other introduction changed the lives of the Indians more than firearms and horses. West outlines one of the most important evolutions for Native life and how it represented a new way to harness resources and gain power. In just a few chapters, we are able to see the great advancements the Indians made in hunting and trade due to these new technologies and how they allowed the Cheyennes to rise to a new purpose as the Called Out People. Part Two follows the Gold Rush and shows how energy and power shaped the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was with a close male friend and I thought I was safe. I thought I was safe when I went out drinking with said friend and I thought I was safe when we went to my place to "hangout." This is an anonymous rape survivor's story. These common occurrences affect a fair portion of the population in Missoula, in comparison to the national average, and something should be done. There is also a low number of people who are there to support and help the survivors of sexual assault. According to city–data.com in 2014 the rape rate in Missoula was 68.9% and the U.S average was 27.2% per 100,000 pop. Missoula's rape rate has increased every year with a staggering 22.4% increase from 2013. While the U.S average increased by only 0.4% from 2013. During 2011 Missoula was also named the rape capital of America. (Crime Rate in Missoula, Montana). With that being said, why is Missoula the only city with a target on their back? The New York Times reported that a series of events led to a Federal Justice Department investigation into how the university, the City of Missoula, and Missoula County handle the reporting of sexual assaults. "This is a problem that every college campus in America experiences, every community experiences at some level, so it's not unique to the University of Montana," UM President Royce Engstrom said. • 5. Bless Me Ultima By Rudolfo Anaya Bless Me Ultima Topic #2 Abid Ahmad Abid Ahmad #1 An essential part of someone 's life is a place where they are left alone with their own thoughts, not being judged by anyone or anything outside of them. In many cases, this sense of safety can only be found within themselves, because their world is being torn apart by outside influences that have little regard for their own perspective. Similarly, this is ever–present with Antonio and his family in the book Bless Me Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. In almost every aspect , Antonio 's family persistently attempts to influence him to their own accord, with even his brothers becoming distant memories that left him and expecting him to fulfill his parents ' antithetical wishes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While his mom argued it would be best for him to become a Luna and be connected to the Earth, his father's side argued that the Marez blood inside of him would compel him to become a vaquero, free to roam the grassy plains and not being shackled by anything. His dream encapsulated the idea of his thinking and identity being imposed on him literally from birth. A child's mind is like clay that can be molded in an infinite amount of directions. The absolutely worst thing a person could do to this flower of growth is to put it in a box that restricts it from germinating on its own. The only saving grace that Tonie found in this dream was Ultima, who eloquently scolded both sides of the family in saying that only she knows what Antonio will become in life. This concept of Antonio's parents tearing him apart from either side and Ultima giving him the peace of mind of his own critical thinking is a recurring theme. As Antonio's mother and father were simultaneously attempting to pull him to completely opposite shores of happiness, they created a chasm of uncertainty that Antonio had become very susceptible to crashing through. Unfortunately, the people furthest away from Antonio only increased the pressure on his shoulders. Antonio had a deep admiration for all three of his brothers that went off to war.Since his brothers were gone for so long, they are portrayed as distant characters that were always so far away ... • 7. Scarface Film Analysis The Gangster film 'Scarface' (DePalma) is about the rise and eventual fall of Cuban immigrant, Tony Montana. Throughout the film the viewer witnesses how Tony Montana goes from a criminal in Cuba to a drug overlord in America. The average viewer cannot connect to the arc of Tony Montana. But, the average viewer can connect to what Tony Montana is working for, the American dream. Brain DePalma chooses purposefully to have a hyper–masculine, narcissistic, megalomaniac immigrant as the main character of a story of American dream. In 'Scarface', DePalma show the universality of the American dream. By utilizing various filming techniques, DePalma shows how the American dream is available for everyone. DePalma utilizes zooming and film cuts to show how the American dream is for everyone. Scarface, following the traditional film three act narrative structure, ends it second act with Tony Montana immediately after executing his old boss. The camera opens on a close up of Tony Montana. The camera then cuts to a shot of a moving blimp saying, 'The World is Yours'. Before the blimp's message can move to an advertisement, the camera then cuts back to Tony Montana, holds for a few seconds, the zooms out to a long shot encompassing the entire house. DePalma purposefully chooses to film this scene this way. Opening on a close up of Tony Montana show the audience that he is the focus of the scene. When the camera cuts to the slogan on the blimp the audience enters the eyes of Tony Montana for cut. They see the slogan the same way Tony Montana sees it. When the camera zooms out and shows the entire house and Tony Montana's new wife, the audience understands that Tony Montana now has everything he could ever want. By keeping Tony Montana in the center of the frame, the audience can remember Tony Montana from the beginning of the film and see how far he has come. The audience can then see that Tony Montana has achieved the American dream. DePalma utilizes zooming and film cuts to show how the American dream is for everyone. In addition to panning and zooming, DePalma also utilizes long takes to show how the American dream is for everyone. • 9. Gun, Germs, And Steel By Jared Diamond Jared Diamond is a Geography professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has many fields of interest ranging from physiology to evolutionary biology and biogeography . Adding to that, Diamond also has published countless articles and authored multiple books. His most decorated book "Guns, Germs, and Steel", won the Pulitzer Prize in 1998 and is widely regarded as a groundbreaking scientific work. In the prologue of "Collapse", Jared Diamond claims that his previous book "Guns, Germs, and Steel" focused on the buildup of societies over the last 13,000 years and his present book 'Collapse" focuses on the factors that cause failure and survival in civilizations all across the world2." Diamond analyzes the breakdown of all societies through a unique scale called the five–point framework. This framework considers environmental damage, climate change, hostile neighbors, friendly trade partners, and most importantly society's response to its environmental problems. Every society he studies he applies this framework to determine a possible flaw in the collapse of the society. The novel starts with Montana's current environmental problems and evaluates societies as ancient as the Mayans and as recent as Modern China. Unlike its award–winning predecessor, "Guns, Germs, and Steel", "Collapse" was not met with the same success in sales or in professional reviews. Although still a successful book, it did not earn as much recognition and sometimes presented feeble ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Pristine Contentment Essay Gretel Ehrlich describes her move to Wyoming as awakening from a nap, satisfied in her new home she becomes absorbed in its tranquility and indifference. She is reborn, starts anew and creates a new life for herself. Ehrlich even cut her hair and buys new clothes to create a "new" and different person. To read and understand this essay means looking deeper into the author's story of rebirth, and how the big Wyoming skies were healing and put things into perspective for her. Thus, improving her quality of life without any fillers or distractions. Ehrlich's purpose for being in Wyoming, is best described in the quote, "I suspect that my original motive for coming here was to "lose myself" in new and unpopulated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The air between people is charged. Days unfold, bathed in their own music. Nights become hallucinatory; dreams, prescient." Now it seems that Ehrlich finds that she has no use for unnecessary words when it comes to interacting with the people around her. She explains that there is no vocabulary for the subject of feelings, so, everything that is said is meaningful, even the mere presence of someone is highly significant. This tells the reader that empty inconsequential chitchat no longer exists in Ehrlich's world creating a constant consequential silence that is quite sincere. Another significant part of the essay is when Ehrlich describes fillers, which is Ehrlich's main point of the essay. This is really relevant to today's society, culture and even pertinent in my view on things. Ehrlich states, "We have a cultural tendency toward denial, but, being affluent, we strangle ourselves with what we can buy. We have only to look at the houses we build to see how we build against space, the way we drink against pain and loneliness. We fill up space as if it were a pie shell, with things whose opacity further obstructs our ability to see what is already there." The American stereotype views the quality and importance of their lives based on material objects. Example, I'll be happy if I live in a four–story mansion and drive a Mercedes. Ehrlich declares that life and happiness come from within and being satisfied by who you are, building yourself up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Essay on Reintroducing the Wolf to Yellowstone Reintroducing the Wolf to Yellowstone Wolves have always been a symbol of the wild, free in spirit and roamers of the land. These animals are considered majestic and protectors of the wilderness. They have always roamed the western United States, although their population has fluctuated over time. Over the past 10 years wolf reintroduction into Yellowstone National Park has been a controversial topic to those of the United States. As of 1995, wolves have been reintroduced into the park. This has come with some strong opposition and yet has prevailed. The future of the wolf in Yellowstone park is now looking bright, although not certain since there still are those who want them banished again. History Many hundreds of years ago ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Created in 1872 by the department of the Interior, the park was developed by congress for preservation of its "natural curiosities or wonders and prohibiting wanton destruction of its fish and game" (defenders). Wolves were protected in Yellowstone. Wolves lived in the park for forty years, with claimed increasing nuisance to outsiders. The people around Yellowstone were complaining that the wolves, basically a nuisance to society, were killing animal. Thus after discussions and studies, congress agreed and the wolf extermination began. In 1914, the "Yellowstone wolf extirpation campaign began after congress appropriated funds for 'destroying wolves, prairie dogs, and other animals injurious to agriculture and animal husbandry' on public lands" (defenders). The killing of wolves continued until 1926 when the last two wolf pups of some 136 wolves were killed on a poisoned bison carcass (defenders). The eradication of wolves by hunting and other means soon cleared out most wolves in all areas of the United States. "By the 1940's humans had eliminated red and gray wolves from almost all of their historic range in the contiguous 48 states" (Noecker). For a number of years the wolves were not missed by most people, the ranchers and farmers were happy to have the pests gone. Coyotes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Montana Fish Synthesis Essay Alexis Bonogofsky wrote about "reports of dead fish floating and collecting on the banks of the iconic Yellowstone River began coming into Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) in early August. The Yellowstone flows for 692 miles from Absaroka mountain range in Wyoming, through Yellowstone National Park, into the prairies of eastern Montana and finally, the Missouri River. FWP officials took tissue samples from the dead fish to the US Fish and Wildlife Service Fish Health Center in nearby Bozeman, Montana. The whitefish were found to have died from Proliferative Kidney Disease (PKD), which is caused by a microscopic parasite known to occur in Canada, the United States and Europe. PKD kills fish by causing extreme inflammation in their kidneys and spleen. • 17. The Yellowstone Wolf Controversy Essay One of the biggest reasons for the reintroduction of wolves back into Yellowstone was that they had originally roamed from Yellowstone all the way down to Mexico. While a lot of people were in favor of the reintroduction of the wolves, there were many who were against it. The main people who were against the reintroduction of the wolves back into the park were the ranchers who made a living in the areas surrounding the park. During 70 years of absence from the Rockies, the Grey Wolf had been protected under the Endangered Species Act that was passed in 1973. Since the wolf is under the protection of Endangered Species Act a person could be punished with up to a $100,000 fine and up to 1 year in jail for killing a wolf. Back in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this plan they decided on three areas in which to reintroduce wolves; Northwest Montana, the Yellowstone Ecosystem, and Central Idaho. In 1987 they released another plan that was more detailed than the first few. The recovery goal for the Grey Wolf was ten breeding pairs per area, which meant ten packs of ten wolves, or 100 total. With the release of the 1987 plan, a lot of opposition was raised. For the first time in 70 years, the howl of the Grey Wolf is being heard throughout Yellowstone Park (Sanders, 2000). In January of 1995, 14 wolves from separate packs in Canada were trapped and transported to Yellowstone. Once in the park the wolves were placed in one acre acclimation pens. In total there were three pens scattered across the northern portion of Yellowstone: one a Crystal Creek, another at Rose Creek, and the last at Soda Butte. During the wolves time spent in these pens they were fed winter kill, or road kill. The packs that were formed in these pens were released in the winters of 1995–1996 and also again in 1996–1997 for a second release period (Sanders, 2000). In 1995 fourteen wolves were released and in 1996 seventeen were released. In 1997 there were 64 pups born and since 1995, 33 wolves have died in the Yellowstone area. • 23. The Blackfeet of the Americas Who are the Blackfeet and how do they refer to themselves Though referred to as the Blackfeet or Blackfoot, they prefer to refer to themselves as the Nitsitapiksi, which means "Real People." This term is not only used by the Blackfeet to refer to themselves but to all First Peoples of the Americas (Ni–tsi–ta–pi–ksi, The Blackfoot Gallery Committee, 2001, 3). The Blackfoot Nation is a confederacy of three Nations, the Kainai, the Pikani and Siksika (The Blackfoot Gallery Committee, 2001, 2/3). These three Nations however are more commonly referred to in mainstream literature as the Blood, Peigan, and the Northern Blackfoot or the Blackfeet of Montana and are not the terms chosen by the Blackfeet Nations to refer to them selves (The Blackfoot Gallery Committee, 2001, 2). This terminology, it would appear results from mistranslations of Blackfoot words, or names given to the Blackfeet from neighboring First Nations (source). For example the term Peigan is believed to have originated from an English mispronunciation of Pikani. How the Kainai ( which translates into "Many Leaders") became known as the Blood Nation has many explanations, one is that it describes the term Aapaitsitapi by the Cree due to the ceremonial paint which was used on the face and hands which looked like blood. A second explanation is that the term in fact referred the weasel pelts the Kanai wore and it was mistranslated to mean the blood peoples (Bastien 2004, 10). Siksika is a literal translation of ... Spotted knapweed prefer habitats that consist of gravel/sandy soils, full sun, arid conditions in course soil, disturbed areas, and is tolerant to nutrient poor soils (Montana Weed Control Association (MTWEED), n.d.). The SKCP broke the river down into three sections, all have the same spotted knapweed concerns and goals, but have slightly different soil ecosystems. The first section starts at the headwaters and runs to Nye, MT (See Attachment 6) about river mile 35; this stretch contains faster moving stretches of rapids, but also areas that are very slow moving and slough. The higher river banks in the faster moving areas have rockier soil, and more drastic soil erosion caused by spotted knapweed. The slow areas and sloughs, like near Lake Sioux Charley (See Attachment 7), the largest moving slough, have moist, less rocky soil, and not as conducive growing environment for spotted knapweed. This area is primarily back country, already designated trails, and is deeply wooded in some areas, but is the least of the SKCP concern. The second section runs from Nye, MT to the Rosebud River, about river mile 12. The calmer, clearer water, with more gradual river banks, significantly more arid gravel bars, open sunny landscape, are all prime growing areas for spotted knapweed and the highest area of concern. It is also considered outstanding fly fishing waters, which creates more foot traffic on the river banks, creating more disturbed areas. A variety of animals were used in the subsistence strategy, including but not limited to: Bison, deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, various canids, marten, goose, frog, and clams (Buchner 1981, Millar 1981, Cole 2015). The Plains Bison was the primary food source for the Oxbow group, leading them to follow the seasonal round of the bison to some extent, especially at more southern sites. This said, no major bison kill sites associated with Oxbow have been found, only small scale kills, which gives rise to many questions, such as: did this group know how to run a large scale kill site? did they use different technologies? or were there not enough mammals to run a larger kill?, all of which are rather hard to answer given only the archaeological record. This nomadic hunting and gathering subsistence strategy also encouraged foraging for certain flora based foods, especially in times where bison were not able to be procured. Oxbow tools and associated artifacts reflect this subsistence strategy based lifestyle, with endscrapers, bifaces, bifacially worked flakes, and bone tools abundant in the record at this time–depth. • 35. Scarface Film Analysis 1. Though the initial reviews were mixed, time has proven the film's popular appeal. More than twenty years after its release, Scarface continues to be a rental favorite, a standard campus feature, and a late–night TV standard. How can the notion of the general welfare be used to justify giving big bucks to the stars making the film: actor Al Pacino, director Brian De Palma, and writer Oliver Stone? At a very basic level the film is obviously something that people enjoy seeing, often over and over again. If you accounted for the accumulated hours that individuals have spent watching Scarface it would certainly seem like people involved in the film should be paid well. They have managed to provide entertainment from this single project consistently for over 20 years. It could be compared, in a sense, to a live actor performing each time you attend a play. I think it's different, but perhaps comparable on the scale of a film. By paying big bucks, it's representing the portion they'd make from each attendee's ticket cost and comparable to a team of performers doing the same stellar performance over and over again. 2. Can you form an argument against the concentration of money in the hands of a very few people that would work equally well against Al Pacino's (presumed) wealth and Tony Montana's? I think there is certainly a point where concentrated wealth begins to outweigh societal welfare. When you look at people who couldn't reasonably spend their wealth on them or their ... The Arduous Journey Of Discovering Antonio 's Destiny I decided that "The Arduous Journey to Discovering Antonio's Destiny" is a decent, exceptional title for my paper, because it gives a brief description on what my paper will be about, Antonio's expedition on finding his destiny. 1 ½ ) When reading over the assignment rubric, I noticed a few errors. One being in question number 1, where it says,"How are Samuel, Antonio, and Cico different?". Instead of saying "are" you would say is. "Is" is singular while "are" is plural, and since it 's talking about each individual, it would make it singular. 2) Antonio and Cico just saw a golden carp, which is a pagan god according to Samuel. Norman Maclean testifies to this power in his novella, A River Runs Through It. Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river, Norman Maclean captures his journey from boy to man through his powerful connection to the Blackfoot River. Robert Redford's movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of the Blackfoot river, focuses on the interpersonal relationships Norman develops throughout his life, and how those shape his character and choices. A River Runs through It encapsulates Norman's coming of age through the symbolism and parallels he draws between himself and the river, whereas Robert Redford's adaptation explores Norman's coming of age via his relationships with other people, with the river as a secondary aspect. Norman Maclean closes his novella with this powerful statement, "Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. . . under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters" (119). In this statement, "one" is the intangible conglomerate of Maclean's life experiences, thoughts, and memories. Maclean also uses the river to symbolize his life. Thus, he believes in the end, all his experiences and memories merge into one entity, with his life running through them. He then connects that his life is built upon those before him because the river [his life] flows over generations of rock under which are, "the words, and some of the words are theirs" (119). The people who came before him in his life shaped the environment in which he would grow up, in turn shaping him. Norman's life would have been very different had older generations for example, commercialized the river, industrialized the town, or made a plethora of other potential changes. Finally, he is "haunted by waters" because they contain the memories and words of everyone Norman has ever connected with. This demonstrates Norman's deep connection to the river, and how the way he understands his life is through the river, and without it, cannot find the words to explain how he has grown accept his life. • 53. Analysis Of Dave Barry'sNorth Dakota Wants Its Place In... In Dave Barry's satirical essay titled "North Dakota wants its place in the sun", he argues that name changing is a ridiculous concept. Dave Barry immediately claims that changing the name of an object, subject, or person doesn't change the identity of said object, subject, or person but rather temporarily deceives the individual. Throughout his essay, Barry utilizes the rhetorical strategies of anecdote, hyperbole, and sarcasm to strengthen and support his stance on name changing. Although Barry's article centers on North Dakota, the author uses anecdotes with common themes to make his character more reliable and credible, although he is not actually a resident of North Dakota. In Barry's article, he shifts from talking about North Dakota's name change to his own short story about Floridians giving cockroaches a new name in order to protect their coveted reputation of paradise. Barry's anecdote on palmetto bugs helps to strengthen his credibility as he stresses the foolishness of name changes as shown by the following excerpt "But we Floridians solved that problem by giving them a new name, 'palmetto bugs', which makes them sound cute and harmless" (Barry Paragraph 8). This anecdote on palmetto bugs makes Barry more of a reliable source because the anecdote illustrates how Florida experienced a similar phase as North Dakota. Seeing that Barry has lived through it, he knows from experience that a name change will not always result in a positive outcome as he states in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Personal Narrative: Tony Montana December 25, 2014 that was the day. It was the day that a little frenchie was brought into my life. Around 2:30 A.M., there he was by the door standing with a big red bow tied around his neck. You would think coming up with a name is easy in reality it isn't. Two days later, we finally came up with a name, Tony Montana. Tony is the nicest with a very big heart. He's very friendly and can be as playful as a child at a park. He's very lovable, always loves to be by your side. Sometimes, he can get a little too crazy and starts running around the whole house like a mouse being chased by a cat. My family and I have a very close relationship with Tony. Tony is like a brother to me. Two years later... it's the middle of summer 2016. It was 80 degrees but it felt like it was 100 degrees. My aunt, Patty, and her husband, Rudy, decided to have a barbeque. My grandma came to pick up Tony, my sister, Emily, and I. Then, we went to pick up Patty and Rudy after that we were on our way to Haulover. Everything was unpacked the barbeque officially began. Aluminum foil was put on the grill and then the seasoned meat was put on the aluminum foil. The aroma of the good tasty foods filled the air. Twenty minutes later the food was ready. Everybody rushed to get a plate and their food. Yummy... everything was great after we all walked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The salt filled the air while sand was in my hair. Since, he wouldn't get in on his own, we had to carry him in ourselves. In Tony went in with his little neon yellow life jacket. He started swimming with his little paws and paddled toward the sand. • 57. Antonio 'Tony Tony' Montana Antonio "Tony" Montana was born in Cuba on May 5, 1996, to a Cuban mother and an American father. The marriage produced two children, Antonio and Gina, his little sister. Tony recalled having a pretty good relationship with his father, who taught him English and took him to American films where he saw such big stars as Humphrey Bogart. While Tony's father had a good relation with his kids, he did not have an ideal relationship as a husband and head of the household. One day Tony's father abandoned his family, so Mrs. Montana raises Tony and Gina alone. However, Tony proves somewhat a copycat of his father, abandoning them 5 years. • 59. Comparison Of 1983 Scarace And Tony Montana One big difference between the two movies is the main characters. 1932 Scarface's main character goes by the name of Tony Comante. He is an Italian mobster making his way up in the mafia that is based out of Chicago's south side. In contrast, the 1983 Scarface's main character is a Cuban refugee named Tony Montana who is based out of Miami. Tony Montana is desperately trying to make it to the top and he won't stop at anything to get there. Due to being fifty years apart, another big difference is in the original tony is involved with bootlegging and selling beer. Where as, tony in the remake is dealing cocaine. This difference shows light on the context of when each movie was produced and how crime has changed over the years. A noticeable difference ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(AP) – Beleaguered firefighters in Montana enjoyed something of a lull in their battle against dozens of wildfires, but a new blaze near Yellowstone National Park forced the evacuation of up to 150 homes. And a firestorm in a remote Idaho forest destroyed most of the buildings at a guest ranch, and another guest ranch was ordered evacuated. There were concerns the entire town of Red Lodge, a resort community near Yellowstone in south– central Montana, might have to be evacuated in the face of the blaze. Wind was expected to gust to 30 mph during the night. ``We're constantly reevaluating whether there will be a need to evacuate the town,'' population 1,875, a Forest Service official said ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether fire crews were in fact able to hold their own Sunday may not be known until officials get their next look at aerial infrared photos that accurately map the fires' boundaries at night. ``I have a feeling that we'll discover that some of the fires have increased dramatically,'' said E.Lynn Burkett of the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho. ``There's so many elements out there working against us – steep canyons, winds that make fires run.'' Gusty wind in central Idaho on Sunday turned one of the blazes in the Frank Church–River of No Return Wilderness into a firestorm that raced six miles and burned 21 of the 29 buildings at the Pistol Creek Ranch. The main lodge at the guest ranch was unharmed but 17 cabins were destroyed. The area had been evacuated long before and no injuries were reported. The fire was one of a group of fires that have blackened about 117,000 acres some 50 miles northeast of Challis, Idaho. Authorities ordered the evacuation of another guest ranch 11 miles away and recommended evacuation of a third. Elsewhere, a fire burning out of control in South Dakota's Black Hills National Forest might have been set, a U.S. Forest Service official said Sunday night at a town meeting.

Joe ran the Dairy Queen in the heart of the Great Northern Railway Butte Division, at a place called Havre, Montana population 10,000. The Butte Division is known for two seasons, summer and winter. Hand me down truisms from generation to generations would produce the old sayings that rolled off the tongues of the regulars to visitors: "One thing about being in Havre at 40 below", is how a response would most likely begin with a visitor, "you add that to a forty mile an hour wind... it keeps the riff raff out." By the time, the Westbound arrived in Havre; the look from the dome car passengers was one of quizzical awe. Rising from their dome car seats and looking out the windows the passengers were straining to get a glimpse of a brochure promised mountain–any mountain. The brochures didn't mention much about the thousand miles of Great Plains from Fargo, North Dakota to Cut Bank, Montana. It would be six more westbound hours, before those mountain views appeared. Like a shy bride, the residents of Havre did not flock to see the arrival each noon. Not unlike the shy bride, if folks were near the depot, most would not hesitate to take a quick glance at the train trying to make sense out of the depot activity. • 68. The Western Frontier Is An Important Part Of American Society The Western Frontier is an important part of American society that captures the archetypal curiosity that ever American has in search of new opportunities. Frederick Jackson Turner's essay titled, "The Significance of the Frontier in American History" explains the relevance of westward expansion in the late nineteenth century. Turner describes the western frontier as the "meeting point between savagery and civilization" because once one crosses the boundary from the East to the West; the laws of civilization no longer apply. The West is characterized by its lawlessness and violence as the settlers struggle to stake their claim on the rough terrain (Turner). Two western classics that are complete polar opposites–Willa Cather's My Antonia and Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian– both depict the civilized but also the savage aspects of the western frontier. The difficult and ever changing geography of the American West shapes each character in both stories, since the American West is a harsh and tedious environment, it allows Darwin's principle of survival of the fittest to be tested. In My Antonia, the protagonist, Antonia, is shown to the reader through the memory of Jim Burden as his childhood sweetheart. Antonia represents the captivating and peaceful beauty of the western prairie even as it endures harsh conditions. On the other hand, Blood Meridian portrays a horribly savage image of the West, where one is in a dog eat dog world and must choose to kill or be killed. McCarthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
