World War II : The Cold War
As a result of World War II, Germany was divided between the four most triumphant allies. The
United States, France, and Britain shared West Germany. On the other hand, East Germany was
occupied by the communist Soviet Union. In the center of the Soviet side, these four countries split
the city of Berlin as well. The French, British, and Americans contained the west zone of Berlin,
while the Soviets contained the east of Berlin, in the same manner that they had split the entire
country. As soon as the land was divided, thousands of civilians quickly migrated from East Berlin
to West Berlin, causing the communists to fear a collapse of their economy. Due to East Germany's
rapidly decreasing population, communist leader, Walter Ulbricht found a solution. On the night of
August 13, 1961; a barrier was built encompassing West Berlin, it was known as the Berlin Wall.
This wall became a primary representative of the Cold War. In the course of the existence of the
Berlin Wall, the United States' President, John F. Kennedy visited West Berlin on June 26, 1963. On
that day, President Kennedy gave a powerful speech, which accentuated the United States' support

Equality they say is a state of being equal, especially in status, rights and opprtunites, But in Kurt
Vonnegut story "Harrison Bergeron" equality is far from being equal. In this story, though it tries to
paint an imaginary picture of a future in American society where everybody is finally equal before
God and the Law, and where nobody is smatter, better, looking, stronger or quicker than anybody
else, but that is actually not the case. Vonnegut, indirectly in this story re–echo's the popular Animal
Farm saying that "All animals are not equal, but some are more equal than others." Therefore

As evidenced by Rookie's article "Sorry, Not Sorry," and Rowan Blanchard's essay about white
feminism, Rowan Blanchard is both ambitious and honorable in her ways of learning to stop
apologizing when she does not live up to societal norms for a teenage girl and starting to slowly
become a young feminist icon. Rowan is a 14 year old actress in the Disney Channel show "Girl
Meets World", in addition, she is also a writer and activist. Yet from reading any of her writing, she
is far beyond her years and sounds like a woman with college level knowledge. She is an
intersectional feminist, i.e., feminism that includes women of all colors, races, sexuality, and gender
spectrum identities and the oppression they face in society. For such a small girl, she is not afraid to
voice her opinions and educate others on important women's rights topics, shying away from the
white feminism becoming more mainstream daily.

The story Pleasantville is an allegory set in a stereo typical 1950's White America. Main Street loops
back to Elm street, every couple sleeps in separate beds. The idea is that the
"want to" maintain a 1950's lifestyle holds back the progression into the liberation of 1960. Without

are incompatible with each other. But actually they are not. Determinism draws a picture of
causality in the frame of laws of nature. That is to say, every event has a cause. From deterministic

character that is Romeo. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses dramatic
irony, character foil, and monologue to define Romeo as a character. As I said before almsot
everyone knows Romeo loves Juliet, but in the beginning of the story he loved a girl named
Rosaline. Romeo was extremely depressed that she didn't love him back. We can see some of this

The video that Dr. Cohan shared was really insightful and very informative.Eating disorders and
bodty image has been an issue in our society for a very long time. A lot of points were made by Dr.
Cohan to help her audience understand obesity and body image in relation to the sociology view of
things. For most of us, our body is very private. It's something that we cherish and respect and take
care of. It is our home and our responsibility is to take care for it. But like Dr. Cohan pointed out, as
private as our body is to us it is actually a public issue that relates to social structure. She states that
the body is socially and culturally constructed. I can agree with this statement. Society and different
cultural aspects definitely influence and determine the decisions we make in regards to our body and

Loraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in The Sun" and Milcha Sanchez–Scott's "The Cuban Swimmer"
both capture the authors' past experiences of oppression, and convey their struggles with identity.
Both authors are from minority cultures, and both describe the same harsh pressures from the
dominant culture. Both author's share situations of being outcasts, coming from different racial

Opression: A Short Note On Oppression
When I was reading the presentations, I became interested in the topic of oppression. Oppression is
the systematic mistreatment of people within a social identity group such as race, ethnicity, gender,
sexual orientation, etc. Oppression is also a system of barriers that limit those within those social
groups which tend to be invisible to those outside of the group. For example, when someone says an
ethnic slur against a black individual then that is oppression whereas if it was against a white
individual then that is not oppression because it is not part of a system that burdens white

The Book of Romans was written by the Apostle Paul to the church in Rome while he himself was
in Corinth. The church at Rome, which was mixed with Jewish and Gentile saints. Paul, planning to

Covering, to cover is to hide something about yourself that is generally looked down up, to only fit

Audre Lorde's Essay On Intersectionality
Audre Lorde's essay on intersectionality highlights the point that there is not a single issue fight
because we do not live day to day with our single issue lives (Lorde, pg 654). Acknowledging that
we are beneath the dominant class is important to reconstruct the structural power. Intersectionality
requires power that fortifies how our differences come together on both an individual level an a
collective foundation. There are many issues we tend not to even look at because the women that it
