The Nuremberg Rallies

thousands of Nazis would attend to listen to Hitler.
The Nuremberg Rallies
4. The Nuremberg Rallies
The Nazis first began holding
mass rallies in 1923 (the first
event taking place in
Munich).
These events brought
together large numbers of
their supporters.
The rallies’ purpose was to
promote an image of Nazi
strength and popularity.
5. The Nuremberg Rallies
The rallies took place in
different places but from
1927 onwards they were all
held in Nuremberg, in the
south west of Germany.
From 1933 onwards they
were held annually in
purpose built grounds. They
took place in August or
September.
6. The Nuremberg Rallies
The rallies were used as a
major source of Nazi
propaganda.
Films were made and shown
in cinemas, and newspapers
carried pictures of the rallies.
The rallies helped the Nazis
because the huge numbers
attending suggested they
were universally popular.
8. The Nuremberg Rallies
The Nuremberg Rallies were
often by Hitler to make
major announcements
about the Nazis’ plans.
The most famous of these is
the 1935 Nuremberg Laws,
which removed Jews from
society by ending their
German citizenship or
stopping inter-marriage.
9. The Nuremberg Rallies
Nuremberg Rallies had
different features to
entertain attendees.
There were major
speakers, including Hitler.
Also there was music,
huge military parades,
torchlight processions,
bonfires and impressive
fireworks displays.
10. The Nuremberg Rallies
Each rally had a specific
theme which was the focus
of the event. These topics
included:
• celebrating the Nazis
achieving power
• declaring freedom from
the Treaty of Versailles
• commending the huge
fall in unemployment
11. The Nuremberg Rallies
The Nazis published books
about the rallies which were
sold across Germany.
The ‘Red Book’ was an official
Nazi book that included the
full text of speeches.
The ‘Blue Book’ was an
unofficial book which
included photos and facts
about the events.
