1. A SYSTEMS APPROACH IN
GEOGRAPHY

2. SYSTEMS
• A system is any group of interrelated components or objects
that are connected together to for a unified whole. In
Geography we refer to OPEN or CLOSED SYSTEMS.

3. CLOSED SYSTEM:
• There is a transfer of energy,
but not matter, between the
system and the surroundings.
OPEN SYSTEMS
• Where systems receive inputs
and transfer outputs of
energy and or matter across
boundaries between them.
• Most natural systems are
open ones.
