The Political Participation Of Ghana
1. The Political Participation Of Ghana
One thing that is worth of notice is that, though the opposition had grievances, they did not resort to
violence but the law. This also shows the confidence that people have developed and are developing
in the court system and it is important that institutions are strengthened to consolidate democracies.
Political participation has been impressive though voter turnout has fluctuated. The lowest turn–out
was the 1992 elections. This election recorded a turnout of 53.75%. It is not surprising because,
Ghana was returning from over a decade of military rule. The 1996 general elections also recorded a
voter turnout of 76.09%; 2000 general elections, 61.7%; 2004 general elections had a voter turnout
of 85.1%. This is the highest voter turnout ever recorded. The first round of the 2008 general
election was 69.52% and the presidential run–off had a turnout of 72.91%. The 2012 general
elections also had a voter turnout of 80.15%.
It will be simple to define political participation by using voter turnout in elections as the only
yardstick. Hence, it is imperative for governments and for that matter the Ghanaian government to
include citizens and get their interest in the affairs of the state. Thus political participation should
not end at the ballot.
3.0 How Ghana made it?
Arguably, the answer lies in 'multi–institutional' efforts and reforms. Institutions such as political
parties, civil society organisations, state institutions, and the Electoral Commission as well as

5. South Afric An Endemic Region Of Ghana
In September of 2013, I was living in the Eastern Region of Ghana among the green, tree–decorated
mountains. Within a few days of my arrival, however, my young host sister came down with a fever
and chills: telltale signs of malaria. This came as no grand surprise, as West Africa has long been
recognized as an endemic region. However, as we drove to a nearby chemist to retrieve a dose oral
antibiotics, my host father described the changes he's observed in Ghana's malaria since he was a
child – and this was startling. He illustrated the discrepancy between the way the land appears now
and how it did in times past, suggesting that these alterations are connected to transformation in
malaria incidence. Palm oil, pineapple, and cashew plantations replace the once–thick natural forests
of the mountains. My father explained how the foliage has become sparse and spotty compared to
the dense jungles that enclosed the village when he was young. A popular rodent forest–dweller used
for food became endangered as their habitat was destroyed. The new roads which wind to and from
the new farms are littered by puddles, and as my father said gravely, there is more malaria.
The fact that ecology and disease are interrelated is not a new concept, but it is one that I believe
warrants greater attention in a world of evolving environmental conditions. As pathogens are
biological organisms, it follows that they will experience shifting patterns in their survival as the
biological world around

9. Ghan A Country Of Many Firsts
Ghana Ghana is a country of many firsts: the first to win a medal in the Olympics for football, first
to be a sub– saharan country, and first to use seashells as money. Ghana is a West African country
that boarders the Gulf of Guinea, Cote d' Ivoire, and Togo. It's comparable to the U.S state, Oregon
at 92,100 square miles. Ghana, the richest country in West Africa, once used sea shells as money.
Ghana geographically is on the west coast located directly between Senegal and Cameroon. Ghana's
climate is warm and humid, with changes in climate between rainy summer and dry winter. Due to
rainy summers, Ghana's geography is 1/3 rainforest and lots of savannahs. Ghana's geography also
includes forested hills and many streams and rivers. Ghana also is known to having the largest lake,
Lake Volta. Lake Volta is 3,283 square miles and takes up half of Ghana's area. Many people around
the world are familiar with this counrty. Ghana sizing in at about 92,100 square miles and a size
comparable to Oregon, many people don't know the location. Ghana is located by the tip of Burkina
Faso, to the right Togo, and by the bottom lies Gulf of Guinea. Ghana is nearly landlocked but the
Atlantic Ocean is its coastline. Ghana is the 82nd largest country in the world, and is geographically
the center of the world. To prove this the prime meridian runs through a small town in Ghana called
Tema. Ghana like us has an education but it's different from ours. In Ghana students must take seven

13. Ethnicity As A Key Determinant Of Voting Behavior
Hypothesis
While ethnicity is not mono–causal to determining voting behaviour, the focus of this study is the
consistency of ethnicity as a key determinant of voting behaviour in Ghana, particularly, in the Volta
and Ashanti Regions. This dissertation posits that ethnicity is a consistent key determinant of voting
behaviour in Ghana, and this is because ethnicity is enshrined within the political arrangements of
the country (Oelbaum, 2007, pp. 242–273). There are two main ethnic blocs which give rise under
the essence of absolute majority electoral system, to a two dominant party system (Ayelazuno, 2011,
pp. 22–48). These ethnic blocs are the Voltarians from the Volta Region, and the Ashantis from the
Ashanti Region (Arthur, 2009, pp. 46–51).
In Ghana, there are nearly ninety ethnic groups, and language is the core ethnic marker (Arthur,
2009, p. 50). The electoral system provides a strong incentive to the two dominant parties, the
National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to engage in crude ethnic
politics to win, even when they have lost in the majority of the regions (Ayelazuno, 2011, p. 47). As
this system has reified ethnicity, political parties that transcend ethnicity are doomed in a country
where the ethnic groups are quite aware of their differences (Ayelazuno, 2011, pp. 22–36).
Research Aims
In order to arrive at a coherent conclusion, the principal aim is sub–divided into three aims:

17. African Poverty Profile Of Ghana
3.1 POVERTY PROFILE OF GHANA
It is important to know the nature of poverty in Ghana so as to better appreciate discourse on matters
as far as alleviating poverty in Ghana is concerned.
According to GLSS 6, a quarter of Ghanaians are poor whilst under a tenth of the population are in
extreme poverty. In spite of the fact that the level of extreme poverty is relatively low, it is
concentrated in rural savannah, with more than a quarter of the people making up this category.
Overall, the dynamics of poverty in Ghana over the years is predominantly a rural phenomenon.
Five out of the ten regions have poverty rates lower than the national average of 24.2% whiles the
remaining half have rates higher than the national average. Greater Accra is the least poorest region
and the Upper West the poorest overall. Though most regions show a reduction in poverty incidence
since 2005/06, the pattern of poverty by region remains the same.
Rural poverty remains widespread in the dry savannah region that covers roughly two thirds of
Ghana 's northern territory. Ghana has a rural population accounting for 50% of the total population.
Whereas southern Ghana has two growing seasons, the northern plains are very prone to drought;
this coupled with a poor economic outlook of the region has further worsened the plight of the
region (IFAD 2015).
While Ghana 's overall poverty rate has declined, these three Northern regions have only seen
marginal decrease. Poverty rates in the north are two to

Analysis of an annual rainfall pattern over a 50–year period (1961–2010) showed a general
fluctuation in rainfall pattern for all the three regions. The highest rainfall values of 1580mm (NR),
1365mm (UER) and 1543mm (UWR) were recorded in 1991, 1999 and 1963, respectively. The
lowest rainfall values of 695mm (NR), 671mm (UER) and 524mm (UWR) were recorded in 1992,
1977 and 1986, respectively. The mean annual rainfall values were 1082.5mm (NR), 990.8mm
(UER) and 1035.4mm (UWR) as shown in table II. In spite of the seemingly high rainfall amount
recorded in NR over the period, the region showed the highest variability with coefficient of
variation (CV) =0.21. The Upper East Region also showed a similar variation in rainfall amount
(CV = 0.20). The analysis showed considerable levels of variability in rainfall pattern in all the
regions. Such condition may create uncertainty in water availability to crops, and thus pose
significant risk to crop production. Temperature pattern Generally, the minimum temperature (Tmin)
pattern showed minimal fluctuations over the period, except for 1984 where the lowest value (18.04
oC) was recorded in NR. The means of Tmin series were 22.4 oC for both NR and UWR, and 22.7
oC for UER. The extent of variation in the series indicates the most appreciable amount in NR series
(0.04) as against 0.02 and 0.03 for UER and UWR respectively. There were appreciable fluctuations

Ghana and Ivory Coast are two of the most influential countries in Sub–Saharan African history.
Both Ghana and Ivory Coast are very alike each other. The similarities between the two countries
are most evident in the geographical region, ethnic groups, spiritual matters, agricultural and
economical matters. The similarities between Ghana and Ivory Coast are seemingly endless. They
were both neighboring countries and created in the same region, West Africa. Ghana and Ivory

29. The Effects Of Climate Change On Africa 's Security...
The Lacuna in the Climate–Conflict Literature
The extant literature shows two trends. First, a few large–N studies which showed strong
correlations between climate and conflict used civil war datasets as the measure of the outcome
variable. The use of an aggregated country level civil war data may be missing the most important
features of the accuracy, degree, and severity of the impact of climate change on Africa's security
environment. The use of civil war and political violence datasets to capture the impact of climate
change may produce misleading outcomes. Unlike civil conflict and political violence, climate–
related conflicts may be mirroring the ebb and flow of climatic conditions. Different from civil wars
and political violence, climate–related conflicts may become intense during the drier months and
recede during the rainy or wet months of the year. Using aggregated country–level civil war datasets
to measure climate–induced conflicts misses the important nuances we need to determine cause and
effect–the causation linking climate change to violent conflict, and exposes such analysis to the
ecological fallacy trap. The drawback of using aggregated data has been addressed by studies using
sub–state, micro–level data, and case studies. Most of the studies that used sub–state data also
reported connections between climate and conflict, and most were situated in the Horn of Africa or
in countries with histories of volatilities. Finally, there are those who suggested

33. The Trans Saharan Trade Routes
During the eighth century throughout the late sixteenth century, one trade route entranced everyone
involved from the Mediterranean to the Africa's. The Trans – Saharan Trade was an important trade
route that ran across the Sahara between the Mediterranean countries and West Africa. In the
beginning stages of the Trans– Saharan trade many small trade routes were being used throughout
the period. this is because travelling across the Sahara before the domestication of the camel was
difficult. The Trans–Saharan trade route did more than attract traders. This route was an economical
boost for many and also connected the West African people with the Mediterranean people.
Trade across the Sahara existed for many eras before the Common Era but it was periodic,
incidental, modest, and much unorganized. During this time, the trade goods were carried on the
backs of cattle known as pack–oxen. "The pack–oxen became accustomed to desert conditions
allowing them to travels days without water as they traveled from one water source to the other."
The problem with the oxen was that they were unable to travel without rest and water which was
hard to come by. Because of the time dependency of the oxen travel across the Sahara was very
dangerous. It took ages for the merchandise to reach its attended destination. The trade remained
unorganized until around the 5th century when the domestication of the camel revolutionized desert
travel.

where Europeans came to trade in. They traded slaves after the gold trade. Regardless of being rich
in raw materials, and endowed with an effective civil service. Ghana suffered from corruption soon
after their independence in 1957. A few of Ghana's globalization includes their culture, economy,

Next, Ghana's Art and Music consists of numerous things like their clothes and entertainment. The
Ghanaian national dress is patterned, brilliantly shaded Kente cloth, which is woven by hand and

traditional story telling, for example Kweku Anansi story well known and told by every single
Ghanaians. Furthermore, traditional arts consist of wood carving, with African designs carved by a
specialty from a single piece of wood. Games, kettledrums, and dolls are likewise carved from
wood. Furthermore, English is understood and spoken by many people living in Ghana. However,
the English language spoken in Ghana, is a unique West African vernacular. The utilization of the
English language, provided for that Ghana may be surrounded by French–speaking countries, has
helped create the Ghanaian national character as different from its neighbors. Other vernaculars
spoken in Ghana is the Akan language, which is spoken by the Akan tribe. Additionally, the Ewe
language is spoken by approximately 12.7 percent of the population in Ghana. To my knowledge,
these are the most popular language spoken over 50 native dialects. Moreover, the Akan language is
generally spoken as a second dialect by people who are not native speakers to encourage intergroup

As a country, Ghana is the largest plantain product provider in the world. The country has a
drastically declining poverty rate in addition to a growing middle class that will be addressed below
(Figure 1). This significantly impacts the food demands, consumption, and malnutrition of the
country as a whole as there are various demands dependent on the status and situations of the
country's residents. Ghana is currently the largest producer of the plantain in Western African and
contributes to, "13.1% of the Agricultural Gross Domestic Product," ("Rural Poverty in Ghana"). It
is this crop that provides a majority of jobs for both men and women, however it is not consumed
nearly as frequently as it was in the past. Over the past few years, Ghana has had a consistent
amount of economic growth (170; Ch.7). Today the Ghana has around 28 million residents and is
dividend into primarily two categories specific to income. These classes are the lower–middle class
and the upper middle class. As of 2011, "13.5% of the population (equivalent to 3.2 million persons)
belongs to the lower middle–class (with daily per capita expenditures between US $4 and US $10)
and another 6.2% of the population (equivalent to 1.5 million persons) belongs to the upper middle–
class (spending between US $10– US $20 per day)," (A.A.Dankyi). The primary foundations of this

How did geography affect society, culture, and trade of the kingdom of Ghana? The Kingdom of
Ghana had lots of trade and transportation through Africa, Asia, and the Mediterranean region which
they traded with Rome. They had plenty of gold and food resources which helped the people
throughout time. The empire had some few political problems. Ghana is located in a different place
than the modern country of Ghana in West Africa. Ghana was located in the savanna region, and just
south of it lay rain forests where there was an abundance of gold found in streams and mine shafts.
Ancient Ghana was divided into ten regions, Western Ghana, Central Ghana, Greater Accra, Eastern
Ghana, Volta, Ashanti, Brong–Ahafo, Northern Ghana, Upper West Ghana and Upper East Ghana.
The Empire of Ghana was located in Western Africa in what is today the countries of Mauritania,
Senegal, and Mali. The region lies just south of the Sahara Desert and is mostly savanna grasslands.
Major rivers in the region such as the Gambia River, Senegal River, and the Niger River served as
the means of transportation and trade. Vegetation grew mainly in the south western part of the
Kingdom, as there was very little rain in the northern part. The climate of Ancient Ghana for most of
the year was dry and hot, however rainfall did occur in some parts during the year. Due to its
geographic location on the trans– Saharan trade route, Ghana had a great advantage as merchants
had to pass through it to exchange goods

65. Why Ghana Is A Democratic State
Obvious ethnic ties in national elections and ethnic favoritism amongst the different political parties,
has placed Ghana as the recent hub for several empirical studies on ethnic lines in voting patterns
(Ferree et al. 2009; Lindberg and Morrison 2008). The reasons why Ghana has been selected is
firstly because, Ghana is a democratic state, it is characteristic of low levels of conflict, even when
different ethnic groups are in close proximity to one another, and has successfully conducted free
and fair elections since 1992, with peaceful handovers from one regime to the next. Secondly, the
political field in Ghana is a two–party system. Thirdly, ethnic rivalries originating from periods
when the Ewe, Fante and Ashanti Kingdoms fought for territory to sell slaves. Although peace
prevails for about a century, the ethnic factor exists and inter–ethnic violence frequently bursts
locally (Tsikata and Seini 2004).
The two predominant schools of literature on voting patterns have both been used to approach these
studies. The "Spatial school" assumes that the voter has a given stake or interest in the outcome of
the vote, which he recognizes, and which leads him to vote as he does, (Enelow, Hinich 1984).
Downs (1957) presents the theory of the "system of information acquisition," to explain how voter's,
using a single trait to gather information about a candidate, that allows them to rationally judge what
the candidates position will be on issues that concern them.

The World Bank has been a major contributor financially in aiding Ghana (Goldsmith, 2001) and the
country has received 37 million dollars per year from 2004 to 2007 from U.S. Agency for
international development alone (USAID, 2008). Even though the country has received large
amounts of money, the external debt that the country has acquired has kept money being spent on
social services and instead is going towards paying off the debt. The International Monetary Fund
and World Bank have allowed heavily indebted countries some debt relief which Ghana is one of
them provided that they meet certain conditions (International Monetary Fund, 2008). This should
have freed up resources to be spent on health, education and other social services but that is not
evident in the reduction of the rate of infant and child mortality rate. Disparities do exist between
regions and social classes, the richest which is comprised of 20 percent of the population have a 46

to the pollution). As for regions, the north is rather poor, while the urban south is richer.
Now I chose Ghana for multiple reasons. First of all, because I always thought that Ghana was near
the Philippines for some reason. So I decided that it'd be good for me to research it. Also, as I said,
Ghana is very rich in natural resources. If you helped them get off on the right foot, not only could
they help themselves, but you could make some money also. Ghana would also be a good place for
economic help because all of its close neighbors also. If a neighboring country saw that what they
were doing was working, they'd either mimic them or ask them for help (as long as the countries
weren't enemies). So hopefully it'd spread throughout the region.
Now for government. The history of Ghana and its politics is very violent and turbulent. It has a
long history of coups and militant overthrows, for a while it happened every couple of years. Even
the current president, Jerry Rawlings, led two himself in 1979 and 1981. From 1981 to 1992,

77. Investigating And Writing About The Ashanti People
For my research paper, I am going to be investigating and writing about the Ashanti people. The
Ashanti people inhabit what is today Ghana, West Africa, with their capital city being Kumasi. I am
interested in this subject because I spent four weeks of this summer in Ghana. While I spent most of
my time with the Fante people on the coast, we toured Manhyia Palace in Kumasi and I was
instantly intrigued by the Ashanti culture. I also personally know an Ashanti that has moved to the
United States, which makes me all the more interested to explore how globalization, as defined by
Manfred Steger, has shaped her life and culture. The issues that I am going to be investigating in this
paper are ones that I have had first–hand experience with: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Ghana was called "The Gold Coast" until its independence was gained from the British in the 1900s,
due to the abundance of gold. This, along with the eventual slave trade was a catalyst for the arrival
of Europeans in the area in 1471. The Ashanti Empire was founded in 1697 by King Osei Tutu I. At
its height, the Ashanti Empire was incredibly rich and powerful, larger than modern–day Ghana, and
even had European advisors. Dress was extravagant, rituals were important, and courts, tax systems,
and military organizations were all being employed. Yet, as is the case with many African nations
around this time, conflict with Europeans eventually arose. The first conflict between the Ashanti
and Europeans was with the British, and it occurred in 1824. The Ashanti emerged victorious with
the death of the British governor. During the second conflict with the British, the Ashanti were
defeated and Kumasi was captured. The near fall of the Ashanti Empire came in 1896, when the
Ashanti were defeated by the British and King Prempeh was exiled to the Seychelles. After this, the
Ashanti attempted one last attack on the British fort, spurred on by the disrespect they were being
shown by the British governor, but they were ultimately defeated. However, many of the traditions
and cultural aspects of the ancient Ashanti's still exist today.

81. Labour Market Dynamics, Unemployment And Economic Growth...
LABOUR MARKET DYNAMICS, UNEMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC GROWTH IN
GHANA INTRODUCTION Owing to a GDP rebasing in 2011, Ghana became the fastest growing
economy in the world with a GDP growth pinned at 20%, the largest per capita income in West
Africa and the 21st in the continent. Ghana joined the league of oil producing countries in December
2010 with 85,000 barrels of crude oil in a day . Fiscal deficit fell from 5.9% of GDP in 2010 to an
estimated 4.3% in 2011 due to strong revenue performance . Despite an impressive increase in
economic growth rate over the years, the Ghanaian economy is still characterized by low
employment rate and low labour productivity rate as against the relatively increasing growth rate of
population. Unemployment rate in Ghana has varied over the years averaging 8.82% from 2001
until 2013. It reached an all–time high of 12.90% in 2005 and a record low of 5.20% in 2013 .
Ghana's unemployment rate is 25.6% for the younger age group between 15 and 24 years twice that
of the 25–44 age group and three time that of the 45–64 age group . This is a perfect indication that
recent gains in Ghana's economy growth have not translated adequately into job opportunities,
especially in the formal sector. Unemployment is a phenomenon that occurs when a person who is
actively searching for employment is unable to work . The most common measure of unemployment
is the unemployment rate. Method of calculating and presenting unemployment rate differs from one

85. History. From Slavery Until Now, Ghana Is Considered One
History
From slavery until now, Ghana is considered one of the farthest growing country in the continent of
Africa because of several reasons. Ghana enters the historical data by the end of the 8th century,
through the narrative of Muslims traders traced to the desert by the profitable exchange for gold by
its leaders. Nevertheless, after the six centuries the exchange attracted the Portuguese sailors down
to the coastline of Guinea. In addition, this led to the Trans–Saharan trading and the Islamic politics,
reinforcing the activity of the building of the Sudanic Empire, with the increase to that of Ghana
descendants, and those cities that came along the way of the port from the desert peripheral.

According to Martin & O'Meara, Nkrumah later became a fascinating symbol, inspiring his
character as "the Father of African Nationalism" every time he was incarcerated (p. 163).
Nevertheless, after been overthrown by the armed forces in 1966, the country faced economic and
political insecurity. However, with the appearance of Jerry Rawlings, and general support from those
around him, Rawlings personally dealt with the problems of Ghana, putting things in the right order.
Which lead to Ghana becoming one of Africa success stories in 1999, when it came to economic
restructuring and improvement.
Some of the different cultures or regions in Ghana
Like many African countries, Ghana has many different cultures. They are not only rich, but are
different from one tribal group to another.
Ashanti (Asante) region
The region or empire founded by King Osei–Tutu I between 1695 –1717 became one of the most
powerful empire in Ghana. As people that were united, they originated with a focus on the Oyoko
tribe throughout Asantemanso. Although the empire was faced with many years of suppressions as a
result of the Akwamu and Denkyira tribes, they ultimately develop as one of the remarkable empire
in Ghana after conquering the Denkyira King, Ntim Gyakari in1998 (battle of Feyiase). Primarily
located in the central belt of Ghana, the Ashanti region are a governmental region.

Ghana is a country found along the Gulf of Guinea in the sub region of West Africa in the African
continent. It is bordered to the west by Ivory Coast; to the north by Burkina Faso; to the east by
Togo and to the south by the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean.
Ghana was the first African country to gain independence from colonization by the United Kingdom
on the 6th March 1957 under the leadership of Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah who was the first Prime
Minister as well as the First President of Ghana. In terms of population policies and programmes
which is the subject matter of this paper Ghana was the third country in Sub Saharan Africa after
Mauritius(1958) and Kenya(1967) to adopt an explicit and comprehensive policy on population in
the year 1969.This paper discusses the population policies and programmes of Ghana vis a vis its
demographic profile over time.
Even in the colonial times Ghana was seen as a country with prospects. From about 1945 to 1957
which is after the Second World War Gold Coast was a model colony of the British empire given
that it was endowed with a relatively advanced network of infrastructure and social service
institutions in health and education. These were facilities that had been financed with the proceeds
of a previous cocoa boom in the 1920's. The cocoa boom was so remunerative to the extent that the
Governor Gordon Guggisberg felt confident enough as to write a long term development plan for the

The relationship between the geography of West Africa and the development of the Kingdom of
Ghana go hand in hand. It was a great place for civilization because it flourished over time. The
Kingdom of Ghana's development was helped because of trade and wealth. One reason that the
geography helped the development of the kingdom of Ghana was because of trade. According to
Document A, there were gold and salt mines surrounding Taghaza and Timbuktu. This shows that
those cities were very likely to be involved in trade and that it would have been an effective trade, as
one city wanted salt and the other city wanted gold. According to Document B, "The Arab traders of

Ghana is a nation in the developing world. Ghana is continuously ranking among the top three in
Africa for "freedom of speech". Ghana was the first place in sub–Saharan Africa where Europeans
arrived to trade. They traded first in gold, next in slaves. According to BBC, Ghana likewise was the
first black African nation to achieve independence from the British colonial power. Despite being
rich in mineral resources, and endowed with effective civil service. Ghana fell victim to corruption

on sub–Saharan Africa to win their independence. The patriot pride fomented by this, alongside a
rich cultural heritage, has helped bind Ghana's diverse groups of people. In spite of numerous facets
for Ghanaian society differ between ethnic groups, the generally unification of the culture is perhaps
one of the standout reasons Ghana has enjoyed a stable and peaceful environmental in the post–

During 300 C.E to 1200 C.E, the Kingdom of Ghana was far from the typical preconceived notions
made about Africa. Many have observed Africa as a dark, jungle full, and unknown continent. In
reality, Africa has been developing as a beautiful and modern continent for as long as historians
have traced back. The majority of Africa was split into empires of different regions that flourished
with multinational structures. Africa encompassed diverse polities and populations through its
empires, which ultimately led to what it is today. The Kingdom of Ghana, one of the many
kingdoms, is a perfect example for Africa's growth and development. The kingdom was located in
the western sudan region of the continent, along the bend of the Niger River. Although ... Show

Pierre–Damien Mvuyekure exhibited various examples through his research on the Kingdom of
Ghana's governing and leadership. Firstly, Mvuyekure claimed that with superior military power and
competent political leadership, strong kingdoms like Ghana were able to dominate less–powerful
states, turning these vanquished entities into vassal states. Not only Ghana, but several kingdoms
flourished in terms of their military and politics, dominating smaller states. Ghana thrived by
capturing and rebuilding new states to aid the growth of Africa. Finally, Mvuyekure explained that
their rise to prominence was based on factors such as astute political leadership, effective and
efficient bureaucracies, well organized armies, and strong economies. Ghana's steps to success were

113. Introduction Of Trade And Ghana
Introduction to Trade and Ghana
There are many issues to be looked at when trying to better understand the development or
underdevelopment of African countries such as Ghana. According to Todd Moss', "African
Development," some of these issues are: economic reform and the politics of adjustment, the
international aid system, debt burdens and debt relief, poverty, human development, and HIV/AIDS,
the African Union and regional institutions, Africa and world trade, and private investment and the
business environment (Moss 2007). One of the main issues that will be looked into is the interaction
of Ghana and World Trade. Some themes that need to be discussed when talking about trade are
geography, leadership, and institutions. These themes all play a huge part in how a country handles
the resources or products they have and whether or not they effectively get them to the world trade
market. Ghana is ahead of most other African countries in these categories. They are moving
forward and using the resources they have been blessed with to continue to grow and develop their
country.
Factors Affecting Countries Ability to Develop
Geography, leadership and institutions are all taken into consideration when looking in depth at a
specific country and how it has developed or not developed. The geography of a country is the key
ingredient in what they can produce and then export for a profit. For instance if the geography of a
country is very fertile it may produce crops for food

Dialogue surrounding electronic health records in developed countries have been increasing despite
the diminutive attention towards its adoption in developing countries. The recognition towards
health information technology mainly concentrated on privacy and security concerns and financing
(Were & Meslin, 2011). As developing countries have similar distresses, their concerns fluctuate
because of cultural distinctions such as the relationship between patient and provider and their lack
of interest in EHR implementation (Were & Meslin, 2011). However, Ghana has follow through on
their interest EHR adoption.

There was still a lack of health information education that may have led to some challenges such as
little ICT investments and human resources (Abdulai, 2009).
In 2010, the Ghanaian government created national approaches towards EHR adoption. Strategies
suggested health care sector growth by creating support towards the foundation of health
information management, constructing a sector for eHealth and ICT access (Afarikumah, 2014).
This, in turn created more room for talks surrounding health informatics in Ghana and the move
towards a paperless health care system.
In order to uphold to these strategies, Ghana launched many health information projects. Plans such
as the Mobile Technology for Community Health in Ghana (MOTECH) and Mobile
Teledermatology (Afarikumah, 2014) in Ghana concentrates on the topic of telemedicine. MOTECH
focuses on prenatal care with an objective towards increasing quality of care for mothers living in
rural areas and Mobile Dermatology looks at dermatology situations in outpatient settings without
the use of the Internet (Afarikumah, 2014). With Ghana being a developing country, individuals
would have very limited access to health care services because of travel barriers or health costs.

What is surprising by most is how Africa is one of the largest known continents and being one of the

people living in these countries are known to be living in devastating poverty. How can it be that
this plentiful continent of natural resources, Africa's people are living in poverty and living in the
poorest conditions? With Africa being such a rich continent of natural resources why are the
countries within Africa so poor? Take for instance, the countries Ghana and Nigeria There are many
countries within Africa but the main focus will be on the country of Ghana and the country of
Nigeria. Both countries are poor and the people there are in poverty. Ghana has been struggling with
poverty and being poor for quite some time and has been slowly trying to work its way out of

One of the numerous markets in Ghana is the Kumasi Central Market, which is the largest open air

It was extremely difficult to find a lot of resources upon which the World Bank or the IMF had a
project that created problems for a nation that received its assistance. I, however, found some
sources that talked about the involvements of the IMF and WB into Africa, and these sources hint on
Ghana, which will be hinted upon throughout the paper. The IMF and WB were set up after the war
world two (International Monetary...). These two entities were made to prevent similar economic
crises that have happened after war world two with Europe and the United States (International
Monetary...). This role of the IMF and WB has changed over the years to becoming a loaning
agencies for developing countries. But, in order for a region or a country to get a loan, the IMF or
WB impose regulations, policies, and goes as far as controlling governments which takes the
country or region down as they are trying to "help". These policies and regulations are very similar
to how a developed economy operates which is not always a right thing to do for several reasons
that will be briefly discussed throughout the paper (Economic Globalization). A good example of

Newborn Mortality Rates in Ghana and the United States Today
Introduction
It is frequently been suggested that the infant mortality rate (IMR) is a reliable indicator of a
country's civilization and focus on the welfare of its citizens (Berger 2001). Although global infant
mortality rates has shown steady improvement over the past century, many developing countries
continue to experience inordinately high rates compared to the world levels; surprisingly, though,
even the United States which claims to have one of the best healthcare systems in the world
continues to experience relatively high infant mortality rates, higher even than many developing
nations (Berger 2001). This paper will provide an overview of the problem, followed by ... Show

This has translated into an overall decline of almost 90 percent (Berger 2001). The majority of this
decline in the IMR has been attributed to improvements related to urban living (for example,
sanitation, pasteurization, improved water and sewage, reduced fertility rates, and improved
economic and educational levels), followed by improved technological and public health strategies
(Berger 2001). Infant mortality rates have declined sharply in most developing countries in the past
