8. 1. From the audience feedback I received regarding whether or not our product
resembled a real life media product, I found that 37%, the majority, rated it 5
out of 5, meaning they felt it resembled a real life media product
perfectly, whereas only 3%, the minority, felt it didn’t. This helps me feel that
our movie trailer was good enough to make the audience think it was an
actual, constructed movie.
2. My audience feedback showed that, from those that I questioned, 57% said
they’d buy the movie on DVD or watch it in cinema if it was to be released, in
contrast to the 20% that said they wouldn’t, and the 23% that said they
might. This makes me feel that, due to the construct of my poster and the
movie trailer, I completed the task of attracting audience, creating
enigmas, that’ll interest them enough to watch it.
3. I also asked the audience, if they could change anything, what specifically in
the trailer would they change. Majority replied that they’d change
nothing, nevertheless, the second majority replied they’d change the
balance of females to male characters, this helps me realise that, maybe we
should have balanced it and included a few more main females in the
trailer, nevertheless, we tried our best to challenge and develop the
stereotypes by having less females but that one key female being more
dominant.
9. 4) I also asked the audience whether they felt the poster and magazine
cover complimented the trailer, (i.e. it matched correctly). The vast
majority, 80%, replied that they felt that it did, in contrast to the 20% that
felt they didn’t. This taught me that it is key to make sure the poster and
trailer match, as the audience will associate it with one another.
5) Lastly, I asked the audience to rate the trailer out of 5 stars; 1 being the
lowest and 5 being the highest. Out of those that I questioned, 46%
rated it out of 4, whereas only 7% rated it out of 1, as well as only 7%
rating it out of 5.
I felt that, if I had asked them to rate it out of 5 stars after each draft of the
trailer, it would have been more effective when we made changes.
Audience feedback made me learn that the audience will spot errors or not
like things we would stereotypically expect them to like or notice things we
wouldn’t notice ourselves. It is key to carry out audience feedback
consistently as it helped us shape our production and construct it, in a way
that’ll attract them.
10. Podcast analysis
• By the podcast reports from various females and males I
showed our trailer, I found that a few of them felt that we
could have included female characters a bit more.
• Also, the key reply I received is that they felt like the trailer
was rushed and they full didn’t understand the storyline.
Although I carried this investigation out a bit late, I felt that
our trailer was still as effective as I thought it’ll be.
• By the podcast replies I received, I learnt that the audience
wont always understand what we expect them to, as
everyone has different capability levels, therefore, next time
when I construct a similar product, I should continuously carry
out audience research after each key step, as it can help with
feedback and adjustments that are required.
11. What would I do differently?
If I was given the opportunity, this is what I would do
differently:
• I would include more dialogue in our trailer, as that was the
key response in the podcast reports.
• I’d try challenge the forms and conventions of trailers by
including more female characters, or balance out the male to
female ratio of characters.
• I’d make the trailer, at least 20 seconds longer, as the
audience felt that 1 minute and 46 seconds was too short.
• I would carry out more audience research, which would help
me when creating and producing the product.
