What was the motivation that led to the discovery?
The Apollo program was conceived during the Eisenhower administration in 1960. Up until this time the US space
program had only supported one astronaut in flight. The Apollo program would carry 3 astronauts. The motivation was
to be able to orbit 3 instead of 2 or 1. At the beginning of the research and design into Apollo, the trips to the moon
were not anticipated until the far future. The US was perceived to be behind the USSR in space exploration. President
Kennedy changed all that.
What questions were asked?

speech. Kennedy entered office with the goal to get rid of Americas poverty, and to raise America's eyes to the stars
through the space program. During the New Frontier, unemployment benefits were expanded, aid was provided to
cities to improve housing and transportation, funds were allocated to continue the construction of a national highway
system started under Eisenhower, a water pollution control act was passed to protect the country's rivers and streams,

of Cuba. Brigade 2506, the group that attempted to invade cuba, was made up of Cubans who fled the country after
Castro's takeover, was trained and funded by the CIA. The CIA Castro gone because he was a communist, and at the
time everyone was afraid of communists. This attack lasted three days before Brigade 2506 was defeated. The Cuban
missile crisis, also known as the October crisis, was a confrontation between the U.S and Soviet Union and was the
closest the Cold War came to being an actual war. In response to the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, Castro reached out to
the Soviet Union and asked for nuclear missiles to scare away any more countries thinking about attacking Cuba. After

Disadvantages Of Interplanetary Travel
One of the main challenges that face interplanetary travel is the production of very large velocity changes, necessary
for travel between planets in the solar system. The Sun's gravitational pull affects how spacecrafts move. The farther
from the sun the slower the spacecraft and the faster they are closer to the sun. Additionally, two planets have different
distances from the sun and this causes a difference on their speeds around the sun. This therefore means that the
spaceships traveling closer to the sun must reduce their speed with respect to the sun in order to intercept. For a
spacecraft traveling away from the sun, the speed must be increased substantially.

Johnson Space Center. The folks at the center recently tested an electromagnetic (EM) propulsion drive with the

John Foster Dulles wrote a letter discussing the launch of the Soviet Union's launch of the first earth satellite. Sputnik I
was launched on October 4, 1957 with a cost of 15 million RUB and remained in orbit of the Earth until January 4,
1958. Although it traveled about 70 million kilometers, it did nothing for the people below it. In his letter, he states that
while Sputnik is of "considerable technical and scientific importance," it does not involve any discovery. Additionally,
sending humans and animals to outer space, a huge goal of both parties during the Space Race, was rather a fascination
than a benefit. Yuri Gagarin became the first human to journey to outer space on April 12, 1961. He became an
international celebrity by completing an orbit around the Earth, but he didn't discover a basic fact about outer space; his

Kennedy went on, however, to risk his political career for these same rights. In response to an outburst at the University
of Mississippi after the admittance of a black student, the president said from the oval office on June 11, 1963, "It
ought to be possible, in short, for every American to enjoy the privileges of being American without regard to his race
or his color. In short, every American ought to have the right to be treated as he would wish to be treated, as one would
wish his children to be treated." Despite Kennedy's assassination shortly after this proclamation, the Civil Rights Act

during his campaign. One of Kennedy's memorable feats in domestic affairs was the advancement of our space

"First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man
on the moon and returning him safely to the earth. No single space project in this period will be more impressive to
mankind, or more important for the long–range exploration of space; and none will be so difficult or expensive to

the first stage of the giant Saturn V. rocket. It was only a few short months later when America would mourn the death
of one of the greatest presidents; it was on November 22, 1963 when John F. Kennedy was shot down in Dealey Plaza
in downtown Dallas, Texas. The one man whose real interest in seeing a man land on the moon had passed away, but
his dream was very much alive. Now it was up to Lyndon B. Johnson, the man later responsible for the U.S.

Democratic Presidential Nomination On April 30 1960, James Rowe, a Washington Lawyer, gave $10,000 the
campaign of Hubert H. Humphrey (Peters, P. 62). Rowe funded Humphrey's campaign in hopes that Humphrey would
defeat John F. Kennedy. Moreover, Rowe thought that this would lead to Johnson's path of the presidency (Peters, P.
62) However; it was too late because Kennedy was dominating the presidential nominations. Instead, Johnson was
relying on his running mate Humphrey to win the Democratic Convention. Ultimately, Johnson hoped that Humphrey
would choose him to be his vice president if Humphrey won the Democratic Convention. Johnson believed that he was
an excellent candidate because of his impressive record as Senate majority leader and his friendship with powerful
Democratic senators (Peters, P. 62). However, Johnson's strategy was a failure because Humphrey lost to a landslide to
Kennedy on May 9, 1960 (Bornet, P. 63) Ultimately, Kennedy nearly received majority of the votes. Moreover,
Kennedy won the Democratic Convention nomination with 806 votes to 409 (Bornet, P. 64). Kennedy also offered
Johnson the vice presidential nomination in the 1960 nomination. Lastly, Kennedy offered Johnson the vice president
nomination because Kennedy knew that Johnson had a lot of connections in Washington that could lead to his win in

one who brought world's attention to unequal and unfair treatment of African Americans. Although he was assassinated
before affirmative action was introduced, he agreed that some actions should be taken in order to reduce inequality:

The Great Society
'The New Frontier ': a term coined by John F. Kennedy during his presidential inaugural address on January 20th ,
1961. This 'New Frontier ' referred to a nation without greed, without poverty, and without war. During this time,
tensions between the United States and the USSR, were high. These tensions resulted in the Space Race, the Cuban
Missile Crisis, and the signing of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. On November 22nd, 1963, while on a campaign for
reelection in Dallas, Texas, Kennedy was assassinated and the nation morned the loss of their executive leader. Hours
later, Lyndon B. Johnson took office as President of the United States.
Johnson came into office with plans to tackle the biggest problems which faced the United States, such as the civil
rights movement and the unemployment rate. Former President, Lyndon B. Johnson, in his speech, 'The Great Society, '
outlined a set of reforms to help persuade the nation 's youth to assist in creating a truly "great society" and propel the
nation to greater heights. The purpose of the speech was to lay out a political plan for his upcoming presidential
campaign. He adopts an elevated tone not only to pay homage to Kennedy, but to persuade the American voters to

the Berlin Wall. Also, initiating the Project Apollo, establishment of the Peace Corps, the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, and
