Things Fall Apart
The novel, Things Fall Apart, is written by the Nigerian author Chinua Achebe and published by William Heinemann in 1958. The author, Chinua
Achebe, is a Nigerian writer born on November 16th, 1930 in Igbo village in Ogidi, opened to a mix of traditionalism as well as Christian influence.
He was accepted into the most reputable Government College in Umuahia in 1944, later on he married Christie Okoli in 1961 and had four children.
Achebe was presented the Man Booker International Prize in 2007 for his literary profession and was called the 'father of modern African literature,'
he then died after a brief illness in 2013. One of the main themes of the novel are respect and reputation which is based on men acquiring reputation

Okonkwo overcompensates by working tirelessly on his farm and taking every chance obtainable to prove his courage and power. Another
important theme is fear where Okonkwo fears becoming like his father, Ekwefi, who fears losing his daughter, and Nwoye fears his father's anger.
Family is also a significant them in the novel, for the Igbo, there are a few main ideas that shape the foundation of an ideal family; common respect
for each other and all past fathers as well as unity. The main message in the novel is that the Igbo are not the fierce cruel tribesmen people assume
them to be, but rather people who protect each other, live together, and have a powerful community. Unlike other works in this genre such as 'Macbeth'
the title 'Things Fall Apart' foreshadows the tragedy which takes place at the end of the novel, where a book about things falling apart cannot have a
happy ending. The novel portrays the tragedy of an individual as well as the tragedy of a

Arthur Miller
Intro
Death of a Salesman is a play written in 1949 by Arthur Miller, the man who would later go on to write the Crucible. Arthur Miller based the
character of Willy Loman off of his uncle, who was a traveling salesman and felt competitive with his own sons towards Arthur and his own brother.
After bumping into Arthur in Boston, Manny shortly committed suicide. In his life, Arthur had known three people who had committed suicide and
two of those were traveling salesman. Arthur was so passionate about this play that he had finished Act 1 in only one day, and Act 2 was finished six
weeks later ("Death of a Salesman: Study Guide."). This play, considered by many to be one of the greatest plays of the 20th century, has featured on

Miller's father owned a women's clothing company and during the Depression, he lost his business, and their family moved to Brooklyn. After high
school Miller worked at a bunch of different jobs in order to save money for college. He attended the University of Michigan and spent a
significant amount of those four years learning to write and creating plays and his first was called No Villain. In 1940, he married Mary Grace
Slattery and they had two children, Jane and Robert. After he received his degree, he joined the Federal Theater Project in New York City (Galvin).
His first Broadway play, The Man Who Had All the Luck, opened in 1944 and was a failure, but his next play, All My Sons, was extremely
successful. Only two years after the success of All My Sons, Miller came out with his most famous and well–respected work, Death of a Salesman.
This play won him both a Pulitzer Prize and a Drama Critics Circle Award, and ran for more than 700 performances. Within a short while, it had been
translated into over a dozen languages and had made Miller a millionaire. Miller began work on his next major play, the Crucible. The Crucible was
set in Salem during the witch–hunts of the late 17th century, but was also based off of McCarthyism in the 1950s. After Miller divorced Slattery, he
married Marilyn Monroe in 1956. In 1956 and 1957, Miller was subpoenaed by the House Un–American Activities Committee and was convicted of
contempt of Congress for his refusal to identify writers believed to hold Communist sympathies. The following year, the United States Court of Appeals
overturned the conviction. A difficult time in his life, Miller ended hismarriage with actress Marilyn Monroe in 1960. Miller finally married
photographer Inge Morath in 1962, with whom he lives in Connecticut. He and Inge had first a daughter, Rebecca. Then they had a son, Daniel, who

Effective Use of Montage in the Movie, The Night of the Hunter
A rapid succession of images or scenes that exhibits different aspects of the same idea or situation, this is the definition of montage as provided by
Encarta Encyclopedia '98. The idea of a "montage of attractions" was first used by Eisenstein and Pudovkin in the 1920s for the purpose of invoking
specific emotions in the viewers. The movie The Night of the Hunter starring Robert Mitchum and Lillian Gish makes use of this film technique.
The use of montage is apparent from the beginning of the movie. The first image we see is Mrs. Cooper (Gish) telling children a story as they are
superimposed over the night sky. The next image is a bird's eye view of children playing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harper.
Perhaps the longest montage of the film is the dreamlike sequence of the children, John and Pearl floating down the river, sometimes sleeping and
sometimes just staring. In–between these shots we see a variety of close–ups of animals: owls, turtles, rabbits, and foxes, some prey and some
predators, hunters. We also see this animal symbolism when Mrs. Cooper is sitting on the porch with her shot gun watchingPowell. Ruby comes down
with her light and when Mrs. Cooper blows the light out Powell is gone. The next scene is that of an owl swooping down on a rabbit, the same
animals we saw in the earlier montage, giving the impression that Powell will swoop down on the children in the same way.
While the river montage sequence evokes peaceful emotions, there are also montages in this film that invoke tension. When Powell is chasing the
children we see the camera cut between the children trying to get into the boat and Powell attempting to get through the foliage to capture them. And
later at the end of the movie we see a rather dramatic montage with scenes of Powell being led to a police car, an angry mob rushing down the street,
and Mrs. Cooper leading the children.
There is also an ironic montage early in the film where we see the investigator kill Harper and then we follow him home and see him with his wife
and his own children, a boy and girl. There appears to be no reason for this interaction with

Gangster Genre In The Film Goodfellas By Martin Scorsese
The America gangster genre were life lessons that faced social issues and revealed the reality of materialism. The typological characteristics in the
gangster films' were stories being told from a criminal's point of view. Most gangster protagonists in the films are born outsider, immigrants, or other
groups who continues to be treated as outsiders. The gangster genre illustrates immigrants and nativists who had different perspectives about what is
the 'American Dream'. The history of the gangster genre is difficult to define, because there are several overlaps with gangster genre among other film
genre styles. The confirmation of what is a true gangster film involves the gangster protagonist telling their story.

An African–American gangster film, known as a gangsta film is about a heroin dealer name Frank Lucas. Lucas organized crime in Harlem during the
late 1960's and early 1970's. His tactics were cutting out the middlemen in the drug trade and buying heroin directly from his source in Southeast Asia.
Then he proceeded to smuggle the heroin from Vietnam to the U.S. by using the coffins of dead American servicemen (Frank, web). Another film
called, "Boardwalk Empire who added a political dimension, continuing the gangster genre's focus on the fragility of the American Dream by the links
it made noticeable among family, crime, and national and local politics" (Friedman, 422).
The American Dream is an illusion and the gangster genre showed those illusions in an entertainment point of view. The gangster protagonists all
were searching for a better life. Their perceptions of the American Dream were someone being on top with money and power. Most of the protagonists
were immigrants who wanted to be a part of society that held barriers against them. The gangster genre films allow the audience to see that Americans
tend to lose their grip on reality as they pursue their desires for success. Every gangster film's protagonist has their own perspective about the American

The Theory Of Management And Management
F. W. Taylor & Scientific Management
Scientific management, also called Taylorism, was a theory of management that analyses and synthesizes workflow. Its main objective is the
improvement of economic efficiency, especially labour productivity. It was one of the first attempts to apply science to the engineering of processes and
management.
Its development began with Frederick Winslow Taylorin the 1880s and 1890s in manufacturing. Its peak of influence came in the 1910s; in the 1920s,
it was still influential, but began an era of competition and syncretism with opposing or complementary ideas.
Although the scientific direction of a theory or school of distinct thought was obsolete in the 1930s, most of its themes are still important elements of
industrial engineering and management today. These include the analysis; synthesis; logic; rationality; empiricism; work ethic; efficiency and waste
disposal; standardization of best practices; contempt for tradition preserved only for herself or to protect the social status of particular workers with
particular skill sets; the transformation of craft production to mass production; and transfer between workers and workers in the tools, processes and
documentation.
Pursuit of economic efficiency:
Although the terms "scientific management" and "Taylorism" are generally treated as synonyms, work of Frederick Taylor marks only the first form of
scientific management, followed by other approaches; So in the theory of

D. W. Griffith's Broken Blossoms
D.W. Griffith was a filmmaker that came into the spotlight in the early 20th century. He is known for his expressive style and controversial topics, but
his moralist Christian Values and Victorian view of women made its way into the subtext of his films. Touching on themes like innocence and the
matronly roles of women, he developed an archetype for the women in his movies, and Lillian Gish fit it.
Living in rural Kentucky and under the advisement of his father who was a Confederate Army colonel, played an important role in shaping his
romantic war stories and black and white view of human existence and history. At the age of 10, Griffiths father passed away forcing him to become
the man of the house and care for his mother and sister. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the world is a flawed place, Griffith did not hesitate to bring the indecencies of reality to light in his films. Broken Blossoms is one of his films
that is a representation of cruelty and injustice against the innocent. Lucy played by Lillian Gish is a woman who meets a man who is falling in love
with her, but she is preoccupied with protecting herself from her abusive alcoholic father and must find a way to pursue love while remaining in
safety. While other themes are present in his films, cruelty and injustice are a recurring warning that are present in the majority of his films. His view
of the world, and cry for justice is apparent in The Birth of a Nation, where racism and romanticism are at odds with one another. Overall, his approach
to life is highlighted in the theme of family. Griffith favors telling stories about family united, torn apart, destroyed, and threatened. Within this theme
he draws on emphasis on rape and control over women. The majority of his films were a series of scenes that follow in this order: a tranquil
bourgeois domestic situation is upset, daring measures are undertaken in response, and tranquility is restored. The best example of this series is found
in his film The Adventures of Dollie filmed in 1908. Dollie is kidnapped, a rescue party is organized to save her, and after being involved in multiple
dangerous situations, Dollie is eventually

Lucille Fray Lusueur: A Hollywood Career
Pursuing a career in acting during the early 1900s, among copious numbers of talented and qualified women, was one of the most difficult tasks
taken up in my lifetime. Originating from an impoverished family that barely sustained the needs of each member, I was born on March 23, 1905
under the name Lucille Fay LuSueur in San Antonio, Texas. My early life was filled with periods of grief, as my father had deserted ourfamily when I
was a young girl, and I faced multiple hardships on my path to success. My mother was remarried to Henry Cassin, who was the owner of a local
theater. He encouraged my interest in dancing in numerous ways and referred to me as Billie Cassin, a name that would sporadically follow me within

I believe that I was an imperative figure in inspiring women to pursue and connect with the actors and actresses of the era. In the 1930s, I stood as
one of the most vital stars at MGM. Furthermore, women involved in the Great Depression era associated themselves with me in intimate and explicit
ways. At this time, my career was at its prime, impressing both film executives and movie patrons. Despite the adversities, I was a self–motivated and
resolute individual, able to create a remarkably stout and varied body of work in a career that often emulated both the themes and trends of the
industry. In the '20s, I was the embodiment, according to writer F. Scott Fitzgerald, of the sprightly yet expressive flapper. Moreover, in the '30s, I
personified a Depression–era nation's hopes with my renderings of both spirited working girls and glamorous society women. In becoming a successful
and well–known performer from particularly humble origins, I gave hope to young women in a position similar to mine. With this said, I hope to

Analysis Of The Movie ' Workplace Tension '
Workplace Tension
In his 1916 silent–film Intolerance, D.W. Griffith pioneered editing techniques that helped establish montage as a core component of film language.
Griffith set out to unite four disparate storylines under the common theme of love's eternal battle with intolerance. While Griffith believed this film
achieved its goal, some of his contemporaries argued that Intolerance was a "magnificent failure" (Eisenstein, 241). Indeed, Eisenstein proposed that the
unification Griffith sought to create was impossible because the juxtaposition of these stories did not create new meaning. Instead, Eisenstein wrote
that the lack of conflict between shots prevented the synthesis of a higher meaning, or montage trope. While it is true that Intolerance generally does
not accomplish montage trope, especially when referencing Walt Whitman's Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking, where Griffith explicitly attempts it,
there are examples of its implementation. Griffith does manage to achieve this higher meaning in the scene depicting a labor strike. Eisenstein's claim
that Griffith never incorporates montage tropes into his films is false as demonstrated by the social criticism in the juxtaposition of the striking mill
workers and Mr. Jenkins.
Eisenstein describes montage trope as the juxtaposition of images resulting in a greater abstract meaning. By abstract, Eisenstein means that the
significance of the juxtaposition is not confined to the individual images on the screen.

Romanticism In The Children's Hour By Lillian Hellman
In a revolt against romanticism, realism attempts to represent subjects and events as truthfully and unidealized as possible. Throughout The Children's
Hour, by Lillian Hellman, many characteristics of realism are prevalent. The play follows two women, Karen and Martha, who run a girl's boarding
school, but their lives are quickly ruined when Mary, an unkind, manipulative girl at the school, starts a rumor that they are lesbian lovers. Some
aspects of realism the play contains are attention to detail, plausible events, the importance of class, and characters that are complex mixes of good and
bad. In the play, Hellman utilizes attention to detail for the story to come together. Through these specific descriptions, she provides the reader with
context that makes the rest of the story conceivable. At the start of the play, the author gives background, including that the girls were aged "from
twelve to fourteen"(Hellman, pg 8). While this detail may seem insignificant, it is impactful as it assists the reader in understanding the immaturity of
the girls in the school Although there would be a general understanding of their age because they attend a school, this detail helps narrow the age down,
which helps the audience to grasp why the events of the novel transpired, as some of the sophomoric girls catalyze the events that transpire by
overhearing a conversation they should not have and passing the information on to Mary. Another piece of background

Project Management And Emotional Intelligence
Integrative Statement Project Management and Emotional Intelligence is a paradigm that when applied to the process of management implies that
these milestones are predictable. When in reality, and based on the number of players and phases create an environment that the plan may experience
variabilities within the acceleration or deceleration of the designed program of the project charter. The emergence of these variabilities leads to

Film Industry: Then and Now
Film:
Then and Now
The film industry has always been somewhat of a dichotomy. Grounded firmly in both the worlds of art and business the balance of artistic expression
and commercialization has been an issue throughout the history of filmmaking. The distinction of these two differing goals and the fact that neither
has truly won out over the other in the span of the industry's existence, demonstrates a lot of information about the nature of capitalism.
The modern film industry was born around the beginning of the twentieth century. On April 23rd 1896 Thomas Edition showed the first
publicly–projected motion picture at Koster and Bial's Music Hall in New York City. From there the film industry had an explosive growth rate. In fact,

the U.S. in 2000 was only $7.6 billion8. Film production today is not the expression of the director, writer or producer but more their attempt to
capitalize on the medium. Modern films cost an average if $100 million in advertising and production cost, while the average box–office of

The Auteur Theory Of Walt Disney's Film
Film has been a prominent topic in society since its conception. One of the most important physical areas of film creation is located in Hollywood,
California. Hollywood has produced some of the most recognizable directors and film creators. Walter Elias Disney is one major example of this. He
is still extremely well known because of the vast business he created that is still thriving today. Many people have argued that his career fits within
either the classical auteur theory or the structuralist auteur theory, but no argument has been as strong as the one that supports Disney's career as the
commercial auteur theory. The fact that Walt Disney's work was very much affected by elements outside of his films shows that his career fits within the
commercial, or consumer, auteur film theory. The commercial auteur theory supports the idea that the author is what a person has cultivated to
represent themselves. Catherine Grant, the writer of www.auteur.com, calls this cultivation of an intentional self an "aura." She presents the idea that
the creation of an aura is central to the success of one's commercialism. This creation will result in a sort of "cult" following that will find the
author's work to be a commodity. This cult will begin to seek after certain films just because it was created by this author. This author does not have
to be a director. He or she could be an actor or anyone else involved in the filmmaking process. This theory definitely fits the career of Walt

The Impact Of Child Labor In The Industrial Revolution
Child Labor in the Industrial Revolution by Jilliane Leyba
Ricky Schroder once said, "I spent my whole childhood wishing I were older and now I'm spending my adulthood wishing I were younger." As kids,
we are discouraged to work, and encouraged to play. In fact, in most parts of the US, it is illegal to work under the age of 16, and if you can, you only
have a certain amount of hours and a little pool of job options to choose from. However, kid's during the Industrial Revolution had it different. Imagine
going to work from the peak of day to the blackening of night, starting from the early age of 4. Most children were wanted because of their small
size and ability to fit into things. However, the main reason they were sought after as laborers were because of their low pay. In fact, some kids
wouldn't get paid at all.
Eventually, there were people who stepped in to give children more freedom when it came to labor laws. Samuel Gompers founded the American
Confederation of Labor in 1866, which fought for worker's rights. In 1912, a woman named Lillian D. Wald established Children's Bureau to help

Lillian Hellman's Essay 'Pentimento'
Lillian Hellman's particular usage of certain words and diction creates a new atmosphere in her story "Pentimento". Hellman's usage of these words
creates sentimentality within the story through the effect of the words developing an innocent tone. Many words throughout the story contribute to the
effect because it connects the audience to the author. If these words were replaced with others, then the intended tone of the author would be
significantly different compared to Lillian Hellman's sad, yet innocently developing perspective and tone. Lillian Hellman's essay "Pentimento" has a
different effect compared to other essays. Her effect on her essay is designed to show the loss of innocence and the effects of war. I believe that

"Childhood is less clear to me than to many people" (Hellman 1). Hellman utilizes the word 'childhood' to show her mature reminiscence of her life.
This introduction already starts the mature perspective and the evident loss of childlike purity. "I know when it is to be trusted and when some dream
or fantasy entered on the life, and the dream, the need of dream, led to distortion of what happened. " (Hellman 8–10). In Lillian Hellman's opening
remark of her second paragraph, she keeps using the word dream. This word develops the effect of a childlike desire and wish in her story. "And so I
know early that the rampage angers of an only child were distorted nightmares of reality"(Hellman 10–12). Another important word Lillian uses is
distortion. Distortion develops her desired effect towards the audience. Using the word distorted, the reader would feel compassion or understanding for
the child in her story that experiences the distortion. The use of ambitious words like dream and distortion shows the audience of the main character's
mature attempts to understand the childlike innocence she losses due to experiencing

Bill T. Jones
Our politicians toss around the term "the American Dream" loosely these days, but Bill T. Jones has lived that dream. Sometimes the dream has
seemed more like a nightmare, but the larger arc of his life looks triumphant, a genuine fulfillment of American striving and ambition, very much in the
real, waking world. Bill T. Jones, byname of William Tass Jones, born February 15, 1952, Steuben county, New York, U.S., American choreographer
and dancer who, with Arnie Zane, created the Bill T. Jones/Arnie ZaneDance Company.

diagnosed as HIV–positive) created some of his most powerful works, including Last Supper at Uncle Tom's Cabin/The Promised Land (1990) and
Still/Here (1994). Jones has described Last Supper as grounded in his embodied experience of race: "I would make a work that articulated all the
questions that I have lived with. I would speak in a voice that was decidedly African–American." His vision of the work as founded in an exploration of
black history was developed and enacted by a multiracial company that included several guest artists, suggesting that the notion of "black history" is
one that is necessarily bound up with other histories and can be located in unlikely archives. The company included Arthur Aviles, Leonard Cruz,

Comparing Lillian Hellman's The Children's Hour and The Little Foxes.

Lillian Hellman was a well–known American dramatist who was born in 1905 in New Orleans ("Hellman," 1999). She later moved and
attended New York public schools and went on to go to NewYork University and Columbia University as well. Within the confines of her youth, there
had been confusion about her family background (Harmon, 1999). There has always been talk about her parents troubled marriage and other events
have cropped up to make Hellman an intriguing figure. Yet, she went on to grow up and find a husband, something typical in her day. She married

The Children's Hour was written in 1934 and The Little Foxes would come just five years after that. Much later, things would get rather sticky. The
United States would go through a cold war and the McCarthy era was upon the nation where creative industries were targets. Hellman and Hammett
stood by one another through the infamous Communist witch–hunts ("Dashiell," 1996). Hammett had actually been a Communist Party
member and he had to serve six months in federal prison. Hellman did also support leftist causes but never officially enlisted (1996). Her infamous
words and reactions to Senator Joseph McCarthy and the HUAC committee are as follows: "I can't cut my conscience to fit this year's
fashions." (Elibrary)She refused to name names of alleged Communists and luckily she escaped jail time.
Hellman's life in general was that of the typical writer. It seems as if Hellman was persistent and loved her work. Born in the south, she grew up
spending half the year in the Northeast and the other half in the south. Hellman loved New Orleans but felt a driving need to succeed in the North. Her
final home in this lifetime was even further North. Hellman passed away in 1984 near her home which was by then situated near Martha's Vineyard, in
Massachusetts. I feel moving around the nation gave her a variety of insights into different personalities, something priceless to any writer. When she

Essay on The Culture of the 1920's
The Culture of the 1920s The Roaring Twenties started in North America and spread to Europe as the effects of World War I diminished. In Europe,
the years following the First World War (1919–1923) were marked by a deep recession. Europe spent these years in rebuilding and coming to terms
with the vast human cost of the conflict. Unlike in the aftermath of World War II, the United States did little to try to rebuild Europe. Instead, it took an
increasingly isolationist stance (Answers, 2006). In Canada, an important economic transformation accelerated as Britain was wholly supplanted by the
United States as Canada's main economic partner. By the middle of the decade, economic development started to soar in Europe and the Roaring...

this time some sports were just starting out, others were broadening their horizons, while others were simply becoming more popular. New heroes
were emerging in sports, new teams, and even new leagues. In the 1920's, there were many famous movies and movie actors. This was a time when
films really began to become a popular past time, to watch and to star in. Also a new music style came about in the roaring twenties called jazz.
Sports went through many changes in the time period known as the roaring twenties. Sports, movies, and jazz became big in the recreational times of
the 1920s. There are now over a million movie theaters, a ton of different sports leagues and teams, an uncountable number of golf courses and players,

Pursuing A Career Essay
Lillian Gish once said "A happy life is one spent in learning, earning, and yearning". I hold this quote to hold a modern truth. Today college
graduation rates are at an all time high as well as the demand for post high school degrees from employers. According to US new, those holding a
bachelor's degree earn $1 million dollars more in their lifetime than their counterparts who lack a college degree. As a result, we often highly
recommend pursuing a post high school education. I personally am pursuing a degree in Business Management and Organizational Behavior. My
preferred career field is marketing management. To begin with, what exactly is marketing management? According to businessdictionary.com
marketing management is defined as the process of overseeing and planning new product development, advertising, promotions, and sales. How is a
career like this important? Our modern world has become largely industrial and as a result our modern national structure is heavily based around a
free market economy. What does this mean? As we continue to grow and evolve our structure is growing commercially. For this reason, marketing
managers build, grow, and develop new innovative ways to advertise and increase their company sales productions. Marketing Management is a
crucial company position that exists to maintain company stability. As an example, Lisa Haisha once said "great leaders don't set out to be a leader,
they set out to make a difference. It's never about the role,

Gender Norms In Easy A
In Southern California outside Los Angeles, there is a small town by the name of Ojai, the setting for Easy A the 2010 comedic classic with strong
influences from Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter. Emma Stone plays the protagonist, a high school teenager named Olive who is the typical small–town
girl. She has a younger brother and two excellent parents, your average middle American family of four. From the very beginning of the film there is
almost a sense of foreshadowing while the camera pans through the tiny town of Ojai, helping the viewer really understand how small the town
actually is. This also helps to foreshadow the events that will occur, the high school bubble, a narrative about teenage sexuality, and the idea of gender

Olive and her best friend sit at the forefront of this film, one that became impact on popular American culture in the early 2010's. The film shows
contrast between Stone's Olive, and Bynes' Marianne, slut vs. bible girl if you will. The controversy starts after Bynes' character overhears Olive
talking about her "date" and subsequent sexual encounter with a college aged guy. However, in true high school fashion, Olive had only lied
because of the social pressure from her best friend Rhiannon. This small interaction sparks a wild fire within the school, and soon everyone inside
the town of Ojai is an expert into all things Olive. Gossip can be a very dangerous action, yielding mental illness in teens, bullying, and even suicide.
Marianne takes the lead in the witch hunt against Olive which is representative of a larger cultural phenomenon in high school and even college. High
school is often a very formative point in people's lives, which can often be horrible because of the toxic environment many people find themselves in.
The analysis of this theme throughout the movie ties into the Guardian's review of Easy A an excerpt from which is

the question is, where does his loyalty lie?
In Act 2, Scene 2, Dr. Cardin is having a conversation with Mrs. Tilford. As the conversation progresses, Mrs. Tilford is trying to explain to Dr.

Scientific Management & Frederick Taylor Essay
Scientific management is defined by (Robbins et al., 2012) as 'an approach that involves using scientific methods to define the "one best way" for a
job to be done'. Frederick W. Taylor is said to be the forefather of scientific management, during his time many people criticised Taylor and his work,
however it is easy to see that many of his approaches are used in contemporary management systems. This essay will provide a review of the article
'The Ideas of Frederick W. Taylor', Academy of Management Review (Locke, E., 1982) which discusses the positives and negatives of Taylor's theory.

Locke (1982) also articulates Taylor's major criticisms in his journal article; degradation of the worker, loss of complete skills, authoritarianism or

years since Taylor's death and many more theorists of business management have risen and fallen, Frederick W. Taylor's research and findings are still
used in today's business systems (1982, p.22).
Over the years many articles have been written regarding scientific management and Frederick w. Taylor, 3 examples of these articles will be

Cooper vs. Powell I will be exploring the character of Rachel Cooper in comparison to John's mother, and Icey Spoon. To begin it is clearly Miss
Cooper that is much more intelligent and more of a mother then John's mom can ever be. Miss Cooper has this unique distinction about her dominant
female presence. She is a very strong and smart woman not only the way she handles and raises the adopted children but because she runs a farm and
maintains all the housework that comes with that. On top of that she has some one on one time with each kid. If you have one child, making sure
you have solo time with that child, too. When the oldest child went off to out on the night in town to meet a boy but she wanted a man. A wolf was
the term but that wasn't the type of man she needed. And when she ran into Harry she had ice cream and it seemed like a date for her. Harry asked
her a question about young John and wanted to see if she knew where he was and she told him he stayed with us at the house. And that is how it all

Evil. I thought a unique scene was when Harry and Miss Cooper were singing and he's outside and she is upstairs sitting on the rocking chair holding a
shotgun. I thought that it was a sign of respect that a game of cat and mouse is about to begin.
The moral guardian of the film is Rachel Cooper, who opens and closes the film with readings

Little Foxes Analytical Essay
Every play written uses dramatic elements. The main dramatic elements are plot, character, theme, and language. Lillian Hellman, who wrote the Little
Foxes, incorporates these elements beautifully in her play. The play is set during the spring of 1900 and takes place in the Deep South part of the
United States of America. Just as every other play, the Little Foxes has included the dramatic elements in her play, particularly the plot, character, and
language that all incorporate an underlying theme of greed.
The character, which includes the physiological and psychological makeup of each person in the play, properly incorporated the greed and oppression
of the time. Ben and Oscar are brothers who are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were also two servants in the house, whose parts although small, added a real sense of the racial conflict of the time. These characters were
perfectly created with their physiological and psychological attributes that added the extra tension for the time. Horace and Regina also had a
daughter. Her name was Alexandra. Her character was also built really well, except that she was too passive and did not react as well as she should
have while Regina mentally destroyed Horace. Lastly, there is the brief appearance of the character named Mr. Marshall. This character although very
small was created extremely well. Just like Ben and Oscar, he had only one thing on his mind. Although his ulterior motive was greed, he hid that very
well while he pretended to have a good time making friends with the family. Then when it came down to business, he was very keen and right to the
point. Greed.
Not only are the characters created exceptionally well, but the plot of the Little Foxes was also very beautifully planed out and written with the
underlying theme of greed showing up throughout it. This is a major strength of the play. This play takes place in a little picturesque home in the
South of the US with a prosperous but oppressive family during the spring of 1900. This is where the tension starts to build. The play starts out with a
family gathering. The audience finds out at the end of this gathering that Ben's ambition is to erect a

Okonkwo overcompensates by working tirelessly on his farm and taking every chance obtainable to prove his courage and power. Another important theme is fear where Okonkwo fears becoming like his father, Ekwefi, who fears losing his daughter, and Nwoye fears his father's anger. Family is also a significant them in the novel, for the Igbo, there are a few main ideas that shape the foundation of an ideal family; common respect for each other and all past fathers as well as unity. The main message in the novel is that the Igbo are not the fierce cruel tribesmen people assume them to be, but rather people who protect each other, live together, and have a powerful community. Unlike other works in this genre such as 'Macbeth' the title 'Things Fall Apart' foreshadows the tragedy which takes place at the end of the novel, where a book about things falling apart cannot have a happy ending. • 2. Arthur Miller Intro Death of a Salesman is a play written in 1949 by Arthur Miller, the man who would later go on to write the Crucible. Arthur Miller based the character of Willy Loman off of his uncle, who was a traveling salesman and felt competitive with his own sons towards Arthur and his own brother. After bumping into Arthur in Boston, Manny shortly committed suicide. In his life, Arthur had known three people who had committed suicide and two of those were traveling salesman. Arthur was so passionate about this play that he had finished Act 1 in only one day, and Act 2 was finished six weeks later ("Death of a Salesman: Study Guide."). Miller's father owned a women's clothing company and during the Depression, he lost his business, and their family moved to Brooklyn. After high school Miller worked at a bunch of different jobs in order to save money for college. He attended the University of Michigan and spent a significant amount of those four years learning to write and creating plays and his first was called No Villain. In 1940, he married Mary Grace Slattery and they had two children, Jane and Robert. After he received his degree, he joined the Federal Theater Project in New York City (Galvin). His first Broadway play, The Man Who Had All the Luck, opened in 1944 and was a failure, but his next play, All My Sons, was extremely successful. Only two years after the success of All My Sons, Miller came out with his most famous and well–respected work, Death of a Salesman. This play won him both a Pulitzer Prize and a Drama Critics Circle Award, and ran for more than 700 performances. Within a short while, it had been translated into over a dozen languages and had made Miller a millionaire. Miller began work on his next major play, the Crucible. The Crucible was set in Salem during the witch–hunts of the late 17th century, but was also based off of McCarthyism in the 1950s. After Miller divorced Slattery, he married Marilyn Monroe in 1956. In 1956 and 1957, Miller was subpoenaed by the House Un–American Activities Committee and was convicted of contempt of Congress for his refusal to identify writers believed to hold Communist sympathies. The following year, the United States Court of Appeals overturned the conviction. A difficult time in his life, Miller ended hismarriage with actress Marilyn Monroe in 1960. Effective Use of Montage in the Movie, The Night of the Hunter A rapid succession of images or scenes that exhibits different aspects of the same idea or situation, this is the definition of montage as provided by Encarta Encyclopedia '98. The idea of a "montage of attractions" was first used by Eisenstein and Pudovkin in the 1920s for the purpose of invoking specific emotions in the viewers. The movie The Night of the Hunter starring Robert Mitchum and Lillian Gish makes use of this film technique. The use of montage is apparent from the beginning of the movie. The first image we see is Mrs. Cooper (Gish) telling children a story as they are superimposed over the night sky. The next image is a bird's eye view of children playing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Harper. Perhaps the longest montage of the film is the dreamlike sequence of the children, John and Pearl floating down the river, sometimes sleeping and sometimes just staring. In–between these shots we see a variety of close–ups of animals: owls, turtles, rabbits, and foxes, some prey and some predators, hunters. We also see this animal symbolism when Mrs. Cooper is sitting on the porch with her shot gun watchingPowell. Ruby comes down with her light and when Mrs. Cooper blows the light out Powell is gone. The next scene is that of an owl swooping down on a rabbit, the same animals we saw in the earlier montage, giving the impression that Powell will swoop down on the children in the same way. While the river montage sequence evokes peaceful emotions, there are also montages in this film that invoke tension. When Powell is chasing the children we see the camera cut between the children trying to get into the boat and Powell attempting to get through the foliage to capture them. And later at the end of the movie we see a rather dramatic montage with scenes of Powell being led to a police car, an angry mob rushing down the street, and Mrs. Cooper leading the children. There is also an ironic montage early in the film where we see the investigator kill Harper and then we follow him home and see him with his wife and his own children, a boy and girl. Most gangster protagonists in the films are born outsider, immigrants, or other groups who continues to be treated as outsiders. Then he proceeded to smuggle the heroin from Vietnam to the U.S. by using the coffins of dead American servicemen (Frank, web). Another film called, "Boardwalk Empire who added a political dimension, continuing the gangster genre's focus on the fragility of the American Dream by the links it made noticeable among family, crime, and national and local politics" (Friedman, 422). The American Dream is an illusion and the gangster genre showed those illusions in an entertainment point of view. The gangster protagonists all were searching for a better life. Their perceptions of the American Dream were someone being on top with money and power. Most of the protagonists were immigrants who wanted to be a part of society that held barriers against them. • 5. The Theory Of Management And Management F. W. Taylor & Scientific Management Scientific management, also called Taylorism, was a theory of management that analyses and synthesizes workflow. Its main objective is the improvement of economic efficiency, especially labour productivity. It was one of the first attempts to apply science to the engineering of processes and management. Its development began with Frederick Winslow Taylorin the 1880s and 1890s in manufacturing. Its peak of influence came in the 1910s; in the 1920s, it was still influential, but began an era of competition and syncretism with opposing or complementary ideas. Although the scientific direction of a theory or school of distinct thought was obsolete in the 1930s, most of its themes are still important elements of industrial engineering and management today. These include the analysis; synthesis; logic; rationality; empiricism; work ethic; efficiency and waste disposal; standardization of best practices; contempt for tradition preserved only for herself or to protect the social status of particular workers with particular skill sets; the transformation of craft production to mass production; and transfer between workers and workers in the tools, processes and documentation. Pursuit of economic efficiency: Although the terms "scientific management" and "Taylorism" are generally treated as synonyms, work of Frederick Taylor marks only the first form of scientific management, followed by other approaches; So in the theory of ... • 6. D. W. Griffith's Broken Blossoms D.W. Griffith was a filmmaker that came into the spotlight in the early 20th century. He is known for his expressive style and controversial topics, but his moralist Christian Values and Victorian view of women made its way into the subtext of his films. Touching on themes like innocence and the matronly roles of women, he developed an archetype for the women in his movies, and Lillian Gish fit it. Living in rural Kentucky and under the advisement of his father who was a Confederate Army colonel, played an important role in shaping his romantic war stories and black and white view of human existence and history. Since the world is a flawed place, Griffith did not hesitate to bring the indecencies of reality to light in his films. Broken Blossoms is one of his films that is a representation of cruelty and injustice against the innocent. Lucy played by Lillian Gish is a woman who meets a man who is falling in love with her, but she is preoccupied with protecting herself from her abusive alcoholic father and must find a way to pursue love while remaining in safety. While other themes are present in his films, cruelty and injustice are a recurring warning that are present in the majority of his films. His view of the world, and cry for justice is apparent in The Birth of a Nation, where racism and romanticism are at odds with one another. Overall, his approach to life is highlighted in the theme of family. Griffith favors telling stories about family united, torn apart, destroyed, and threatened. Within this theme he draws on emphasis on rape and control over women. The majority of his films were a series of scenes that follow in this order: a tranquil bourgeois domestic situation is upset, daring measures are undertaken in response, and tranquility is restored. The best example of this series is found in his film The Adventures of Dollie filmed in 1908. Dollie is kidnapped, a rescue party is organized to save her, and after being involved in multiple dangerous situations, Dollie is eventually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lucille Fray Lusueur: A Hollywood Career Pursuing a career in acting during the early 1900s, among copious numbers of talented and qualified women, was one of the most difficult tasks taken up in my lifetime. Originating from an impoverished family that barely sustained the needs of each member, I was born on March 23, 1905 under the name Lucille Fay LuSueur in San Antonio, Texas. My early life was filled with periods of grief, as my father had deserted ourfamily when I was a young girl, and I faced multiple hardships on my path to success. At this time, my career was at its prime, impressing both film executives and movie patrons. • 8. Analysis Of The Movie ' Workplace Tension ' Workplace Tension In his 1916 silent–film Intolerance, D.W. Griffith pioneered editing techniques that helped establish montage as a core component of film language. Griffith set out to unite four disparate storylines under the common theme of love's eternal battle with intolerance. While Griffith believed this film achieved its goal, some of his contemporaries argued that Intolerance was a "magnificent failure" (Eisenstein, 241). Indeed, Eisenstein proposed that the unification Griffith sought to create was impossible because the juxtaposition of these stories did not create new meaning. Instead, Eisenstein wrote that the lack of conflict between shots prevented the synthesis of a higher meaning, or montage trope. While it is true that Intolerance generally does not accomplish montage trope, especially when referencing Walt Whitman's Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking, where Griffith explicitly attempts it, there are examples of its implementation. Griffith does manage to achieve this higher meaning in the scene depicting a labor strike. Eisenstein's claim that Griffith never incorporates montage tropes into his films is false as demonstrated by the social criticism in the juxtaposition of the striking mill workers and Mr. Jenkins. Eisenstein describes montage trope as the juxtaposition of images resulting in a greater abstract meaning. By abstract, Eisenstein means that the significance of the juxtaposition is not confined to the individual images on the screen. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Romanticism In The Children's Hour By Lillian Hellman In a revolt against romanticism, realism attempts to represent subjects and events as truthfully and unidealized as possible. Throughout The Children's Hour, by Lillian Hellman, many characteristics of realism are prevalent. The play follows two women, Karen and Martha, who run a girl's boarding school, but their lives are quickly ruined when Mary, an unkind, manipulative girl at the school, starts a rumor that they are lesbian lovers. Some aspects of realism the play contains are attention to detail, plausible events, the importance of class, and characters that are complex mixes of good and bad. In the play, Hellman utilizes attention to detail for the story to come together. Through these specific descriptions, she provides the reader with context that makes the rest of the story conceivable. At the start of the play, the author gives background, including that the girls were aged "from twelve to fourteen"(Hellman, pg 8). While this detail may seem insignificant, it is impactful as it assists the reader in understanding the immaturity of the girls in the school Although there would be a general understanding of their age because they attend a school, this detail helps narrow the age down, which helps the audience to grasp why the events of the novel transpired, as some of the sophomoric girls catalyze the events that transpire by overhearing a conversation they should not have and passing the information on to Mary. • 16. The Auteur Theory Of Walt Disney's Film Film has been a prominent topic in society since its conception. One of the most important physical areas of film creation is located in Hollywood, California. Hollywood has produced some of the most recognizable directors and film creators. Walter Elias Disney is one major example of this. He is still extremely well known because of the vast business he created that is still thriving today. Many people have argued that his career fits within either the classical auteur theory or the structuralist auteur theory, but no argument has been as strong as the one that supports Disney's career as the commercial auteur theory. The fact that Walt Disney's work was very much affected by elements outside of his films shows that his career fits within the commercial, or consumer, auteur film theory. The commercial auteur theory supports the idea that the author is what a person has cultivated to represent themselves. Catherine Grant, the writer of www.auteur.com, calls this cultivation of an intentional self an "aura." She presents the idea that the creation of an aura is central to the success of one's commercialism. This creation will result in a sort of "cult" following that will find the author's work to be a commodity. This cult will begin to seek after certain films just because it was created by this author. This author does not have to be a director.
