The Tell-Tale Heart Response
In the excerpt "from The Tell–tale Heart," Edgar Allan Poe creates the conflicted character of an unnamed narrator through indirect characterization.
Using the components of the narrator's internal thoughts, the narrator's actions, and the narrator's dialogue, Poe depicts a story about guilt and reveals
that some people will do whatever it takes to cover up their guilt, even if it means going against their conscience. Poe uses the narrator's internal
thoughts to develop a character who clearly has many contradicting thoughts and feelings as he fights his inner conscience. In the beginning of this
excerpt, Poe clearly describes what the narrator is thinking by saying in lines 2–3, "I went down to open it with a light heart, – for what had I now to
fear?" Poe's use of the term "light heart" and stating that the narrator had nothing to fear demonstrates this man's battle against his own conscience after
having just murdered a man. Later in the excerpt, in lines 27–28, Poe again describes the narrator's thoughts and feelings during an idle chat with the
officers directly above the place where he has hidden the corpse of the old man under the floorboards. The narrator recalls the feelings he had by
explaining, "My head ached, and I fancied a ringing in my ears." These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After being confronted by the police, the narrator was very calm and collected in dealing with them as he "bade the gentlemen welcome," (Poe 11–12)
and "bade them search – search well" (Poe 15). In such a conflicted character, this illustrates the fight against the narrator's conscience. He obviously
would not want to let the police in for fear of being caught, but at the same time, refusing to allow the police to search would arouse suspicion. Through
the contradicting thoughts and actions of this unnamed narrator, we can see how conflicted and guilty the narrator

Traditional Values Conflicted with a Modern Era in the...
The 1920s was a decade of exhilarating societal changes and reflective cultural conflicts in the nation. For many Americans, the expansion of cities
ignited the ascend of a consumer culture, the upsurge of mass entertainment, changes in the religious and moral climate, the boiling tensions of the
black racial movement and the changing role of women in society. The United States was going through a cultural civil war where traditional values
conflicted with an era of modernity.
Mass culture and entertainment growth had a profound and often controversial impact on the nation in the 1920s. As the United States became
urbanized, we became a mass–production/mass–consumption economy. This fueled better wages for the urban worker and more wealth for the
investors, but not everyone benefited as the agricultural arena continued to decline and rural farmers suffered tragic losses. With better wages, the
middle class consumer was able to purchase more modern conveniences such as washing machines, refrigerators and other appliances that made
everyday living easier. But without doubt, one of the biggest impacts was the advent of the mass production of the automobile. Mass production made
the automobile more affordable and many middleclass families could afford to own one. As more families could travel by automobile for vacations
and entertainment, the need for service stations and roadside restaurants increased, as did the need for better highways. Americans were looking for

Dunstan Ramsey: A Childhood Conflicted, a Life Unlived Essay
Dunstan Ramsey: A Childhood Conflicted, a Life Unlived The novel Fifth Business by Robertson Davies does away with the stigma that Canadian
literature is dull and boring. A master of his art, Davies creates a cast of vivid characters and skillfully weaves them into a story about love, guilt, myth
and redemption. With the effective use of first–person narrative, Fifth Business is written as a fictional memoir of the character Dunstable Ramsey,
who grows up in the small town of Deptford in Ontario, Canada. As a boy, Dunstable was unmistakably very intelligent, gifted with an uncanny ability
to read others. He was raised in a Scottish household by strict Presbyterian parents, who into him hammered several religious canons and tenets. Thus,...

His hesitation to do so, however, stems from the events of Dunstan's youth and the conflict between his own values and those of Percy Boy Staunton,
his mother and the Deptford society. These conflicting values lead Dustan to the cul–de–sac of an unlived life. One of the biggest influences on
Dunstan Ramsey is his childhood friend and rival, Percy Boy Staunton. Throughout the novel, Dustan and Boy constantly compete against each other,
but maintain a rather odd friendship. After the incident involving the snowball, the two boys deal with the situation in very different ways. Dustan
feels extremely remorseful and guilty for his involvement. Boy, on the other hand, completely emancipates him from the situation and convinces
himself that he had no hand in what happened to Mary Dempster: "I threw a snowball at you and I guess it gave you a good smack."(Davies 16)
Dunstan is appalled at Boy's perversion of the incident, but becomes caught between his own impulse to reveal the truth and Boy's idea of how they
should handle the situation. His inability to sort out these conflicting values leaves Dunstan to bear the guilt alone. The difference in the boys' values
may be attributed to their upbringings. Dunstan, who was brought up a Presbyterian household by a strict mother, understood that there are
consequences for every

How Does Dysart Conflicted Normality
Dysart's Conflicted Normality Normality, society's confining system of ideals, can force people to shed their originality and personality. Psychiatrists
have the job of guiding those who stray from society's ideals back to an acceptable normality. In Equus by Peter Shaffer, psychiatrist Martin Dysart
faces growing doubts about the morality of his position as he treats seventeen–year–old Alan Strang for an unordinary obsession with horses. Dysart's
conflicted beliefs about his profession reveal the negative side to normality through the unhappiness of his normal life and by showing how stripping
Alan of his passion strips the nature of his soul. Dysart's doubts about psychiatry stem from his personal life: a life within an unhappy marriage ... Show

When Dysart mentions his task of enforcing normality, he wonders if Alan would have anything left without his passion since "it's the core of his
life"(81). Alan's unusual worship defines his current personality and beliefs, so Dysart struggles to grasp why he must take away this passion. Yet
Dysart follows the normal treatment path and rids Alan of his passion. Afterwards, Dysart admits that his treatment will likely turn Alan into an empty
shell: "My desire might be to make this boy an ardent husband – a caring citizen – a worshipper of abstract and unifying God. My achievement,
however, is more likely to make a ghost!"(107). Dysart changes Alan into another normal person, doomed for an average and boring life. Instead of
having his eyes light up with passion, Alan will become a ghost, and another person devoid of any individuality. Subsequentially, Dysart's own
suffering finally bursts out when he cries, "essentially I cannot know what I do – yet I do essential things. Irreversible, terminal things. I stand in the
dark with a pick in my hand, striking at heads!"(108). Dysart does not know why he must destroy passion, yet knows that society thinks his job, as a
psychiatrist, is essential. He damages children in irreversible ways, striking at heads like Alan striking at the horses' eyes in madness, all for the sake of

The Art Of Peer Pressure Theme Analysis
Peer Pressure and Morals
Peer pressure. Bad decisions. Close calls. Consequences. In the reflective song "The Art of Peer Pressure", Kendrick Lamar details a day where he
was under peer pressure, made bad decisions, had close calls, and narrowly escaped the consequence of his actions. Lamar was with some friends
smoking blunts that ended up to be laced with PCP. The combination of the PCP and peer pressure from his friends caused Lamar to agree to go
along with his friends plan to rob a house. Throughout the song "The Art of Peer Pressure", Kendrick Lamar creates a moralistically conflicted voice
with a combination of diction choices, imagery and syntax choices. The story of how Lamar was with some friends and being with those friends
influenced him to rob a house with them something he would not normally do was emphasised by various diction choices Lamar made. He knew that
robbing a house would not turn out well for him and used the more conversational word "karma" instead of the word consequences to refer to how he
thinks his actions would have repercussions, the use of the word "karma" is often used when speaking about morals and has a contrast in elevation
with the word being more conversational than the most of his more colloquial word choices, because this diction choice is different elevation than his
other word choices it helps create his moralistically conflicted voice as well as the fact that he is talking about the consequences of his actions, but

Conflicted About Lying
Imagine coming home after a day with your friends at the mall. When your parents ask you where you where, you tell them that you were working
on a school project with your friends. What did you do when you told them you were working on a project? You were lying. Lying is something
everyone has done in their life. So what exactly is lying? The definition of lying is an intentionally false statement. Even keeping silent if you know
something is a lie, just a different type of lie than saying something intentionally incorrect. Some people have different views on lying than others.
Some people think that telling any lie is fine. Others say that lies of any kind are dishonest and should not be used. Then, there are the people that
believe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nobody wants to lose a friendship over being tired. Nobody wants to be told derogatory things about himself or herself. However, not only white
lies are acceptable, other lies are justified to like saving somebody from severe harm. They don't have to be innocent, you just need a acceptable
reason. Radicalists on the other hand believe it is never justified to lie, no matter how extreme the case in question is. They believe that lying is
mortal, and being called a liar was a terrible insult on their moral and their dignity. They also believed, and still believe, that a lie that does not
really affect anything at all is still unacceptable because it "harms mankind individuality" which is a different standpoint from what is usually
thought by the rest of the population. However since we grow up lying from being a toddler, it is impossible to change what we do. We all have
lied and will continue to lie all our life no matter how hard we try not to. There is no way to reprogram our bodies to do something we aren't supposed
to. This counters Kant's radicalist ideas that we should never lie. All in all, the claim that it is always justified to lie for any cause and any reason is
correct as we all have started lying at a young age and is an irreversible trait we mature as we get

Daisy Miller
At the beginning of the novel "Daisy Miller" by author we are introduced to two characters, Frederick Winterbourne who appears to be a calm and
laid back individual who had previously been involved in a relationship with an older woman and Daisy Miller, who is a pretty young girl from
New York who is traveling to Italy with her mother and brother. The context gives us some visualization as to Daisy's physical appearance stating "the
young girl's eyes were singularly honest and fresh. They were wonderfully pretty eyes" (James 8). and "She sat there with her extremely pretty hands,
ornamented with very brilliant rings" (James 9). The way that the author describes Daisy is that as a result of her beautiful appearance she was lusted

Daisy was also portrayed as a young innocent girl who at times because of her young innocence was able to get away with doing things. Just as
Winterbourne seemed to be conflicted about how to feel about Daisy I feel like the author wanted the reader to feel conflicted about her as well.
There is also much that we did not learn about Daisy in the book being that she was only pictured as a girl who wanted pleasure and gave pleasure to
guys, what she ultimately lacked was the want to stay committed to one man and be able to love them unconditionally. She wanted to love someone
for the night and then move on to the next one. There was evidence of this at the end of the book when she became very sick and was about to die, she
told Winterbourne that she had never gotten engaged with Giovanelli and they were never planning on getting married. She seemed to be content with
that and she seemed to have gotten what she

Internal Conflict In Julius Caesar Essay
Internal conflict is a big part and influential part of Julius Caesar. Internal conflict makes up the play of Julius Caesar because many of the
characters are conflicted internally. Many characters such as Brutus and Caesar are conflicted internally. Brutus is conflicted internally because he

Brutus's conflict was started by Cassius and the conspirators. Like Brutus says in his soliloquy, he has no reason to kill Caesar. Caesar has not done
anything to Brutus for Brutus to give in to the conspirators. Cassius tried to convince Brutus that Caesar is a tyrant and should be killed to
prevent the downfall of rome. The only reason that Cassius wants brutus on his side is because the people of rome believe in Brutus and they
respect him. Cassius believes that if Brutus is on board with the assassination of Caesar that the people of Rome will not be against the murder of
Caesar. Before Brutus gives in to Cassius and the conspirators for the death of Caesar, he tries to convince himself that it is the right thing to do by
trying to convince the people of Rome. Brutus gives this a long thought and finally gives in to Cassius. Because Brutus convinces the people and
himself that the murder of Caesar is the right thing for Rome it became successful and Rome did not uprise. Because Brutus was a well liked and
respected official he convinced the people that Caesar was a tyrant and need to die for Rome to prosper, by doing this he convinced himself that he did

The Conflicted Linda Loman in Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman
Watching a solitary blade of grass will never tell you the direction of hurricane, just as one characteristic can never describe Linda Loman. In Death of
a Salesman, Linda Loman is a woman torn between guilt, retaliation, and pity. Her guilt stems from the fact that she prevented Willy from pursuing his
true American Dream; she retaliates in response to Willy's failure; she feels sorry for Willy, because he is a "pitiful lone adventurer of the road" (47).
As the battling motivations blow from opposing directions, the reader is left to decide to which one motivation Linda will succumb.

Willy undermines her authority with the boys. He denies any negative comments out of her mouth when their children are discussed. He interrupts
her. He shouts at her. Linda reacts with veiled hostility to Willy?s disrespect. She laughs at the idea of planting a garden, pointing to Willy?s past
failures at growing a garden. Every time Linda pokes at his failures, she is retaliating against Willy?s failures and the fact that she has been pulled into
Willy?s dead end dream against her will.
When Linda refers to Willy as a "little boat looking for a harbor," another wind blows against Linda, pushing her to act with pity (1247). To her, he
is nothing more than a small, helpless old man. She blames the business for forgetting Willy in his old age, and passing him over like an orange peel.
Toward the end of Act I, Linda presents a sorry image of Willy, describing his past greatness as asalesman and ending with a sad description of
treachery. She tells her sons that Willy is "exhausted" from driving 1400 miles without earning a penny, and that his reward from the ones he loved the
most, his sons, is spite and rejection (1237). The picture she paints of her husband is on filled with pity and sorrow.
All the motivations conflict with each other constantly. On one hand, Linda "more than loves her husband, she admires him" (1213). She wants to
follow his dreams to the end, but at the same time

Summary Of Chains By Laurie Halse Anderson
The book Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson tells the story of a girls named Isabel and her sister Ruth who are sold in an auction and transferred to
New York. The novel begins when Isabel and Ruth arrive in New York with their loyalist masters, the Locktons. Throughout the book, she meets
Curzon, a rebel slave boy; goes to against the Locktons, and figures out that her sister Ruth has been moved to Charleston. In the end, Isabel becomes
extremely frustrated with the Locktons and decides to run away with Curzon to Charleston. Chains provides a better understanding of how the loyalists
and rebels conflicted with each other during the Revolutionary War. Throughout the war, the rebels send secret messages around the city to their allies.

rebels plotted against the loyalists as well. Thus, both the rebels and loyalists conspired against one

American Conflicted About Lying
Lying If someone were asked if they lied before , the majority answer would show that most have and if they answered no then they just showed
evidence that most people lie. There are 4 articles that each show there own unique opinion and stances on lying weather they are in favor of it or not.
Lying is usually perceived as unjust and unethical but can be used as a way to protect others. To begin with, sometimes people can't handle honesty.
The article "It's the Truth:Americans Conflicted About Lying" 'Why get here traumatized?'says Smith,64, of pioneer,Calif,'I tried to protect her. It
slowed down the anxiety. Later,I told her what really happened'". Sometimes telling truth can permanently affect someone and make them traumatized.
There are some cases where the consequences of honesty outweigh the effects of lying. Additionally ,the same article it states"You don't want your

because feeling guilty is not as bad as both people being hurt. Also, memorizing details of a lie could easily be avoided by keeping the lie simple.
The article "Rejecting All Lies:Immanuel Kant" states " A lie, even if it does not wrong any particular individual, always harms mankind
individually.". Some use lying as a way to get out of a situation instead of a tool of protection. The world is not getting affected by lying but how
people are using it. Many do not think that lying is tainting the world but that simply is not

Internal Conflict And Corruption In Perry Capote's
Although Perry appears to be innocent in the first two sections, Capote's true intent is to further complicate Perry's inherently good disposition;
therefore Dicks manipulation creates internal conflict and corruption within Perry. Despite Perry's addiction toward drugs, Capote reveals that Perry is
so dependent towards Dick, it's addictive like drugs. Capote relates Dick to narcotics by writing, "The sound of Dick's voice was like an injection of
some potent narcotic, a drug that, invading his veins, produced a delirium of colliding sensations: tension and relief, fury and affection" (Capote 194).
The comparison of Dick's voice and an addictive narcotic, a simile, emphasizes how Perry depends on Dick, even though the side effects are
dangerous. The use of juxtaposition when comparing tension to relief and fury to affection indicates Perry's mixed emotions towards Dick, leaving him

Perry can be the manipulator in some instances. Perry is viewed as "warm–hearted and sympathetic" but because of this, he cries easily making
individuals feel sorry for him, like Mrs. Johnson. Even though Dick manipulates Perry, Perry can be perceived as the manipulator to others. Perry

The first eleven chapters of Adventures establish Huck's character prior to his journey on the river with Jim. Dealing with external difficulty is easy for
Huck, as he consistently adapts to his environments; however, his actions contradict his desires, revealing that Huck is conflicted.
Initially, religion is appealing to Huck when the Widow Douglas tries teaching him: "After supper she got out her book and learned me about Moses

He accepts Tom's insistence of the "Spaniards," "A–rabs," "camels," and "elephants" presence at the Sunday school (227), but silently disagrees: "I
judged that all that stuff was only just one of Tom Sawyer's lies" (228). Huck's passivity towards Tom is likely a result of thecompanionship Tom
offers. Huck reports "I felt so lonesome I most wished I was dead" (221) just prior to going out at night with Tom and going along with his
fantasy–derived descriptions and rules for the gang (222–5). Ultimately, Tom's company is more important to Huck than honesty.
Though not technically an orphan, Huck seems to wish he were, as he provides insight to his indifference towards his father: "Pap hadn't been seen
for more than a year, and that was comfortable for me; I didn't want to see him no more" (226). Upon returning, Pap inflicts such physical and mental
abuse on Huck, including captivating him, that Huck resolves to not only flee the situation, but also kill his father, after being threatened with a
knife. "I slipped the ramrod down it to make sure [the gun] was loaded, and then I laid it across the turnip barrel, pointing towards pap, and set down
behind it to wait for him to stir" (237). Huck clearly resents the man enough to want to kill him, yet can not do so: though Twain employs weariness as
the preventive factor, Huck's inaction despite his desire epitomizes his conflicted nature.
Later, Huck's inaction illustrates the boy's complicated moral structure. After

embodies Christian values. Beowulf's altruistic decision to sail to Denmark could save a kingdom to which the Geats are not in any way indebted.

Nick, the narrator, usually has disdain for wealthy people, holds respect for Gatsby. As Nick says in his last words to Gatsby, '"They're a rotten

blame for Daisy when she kills Myrtle. Even though she has abandoned him, he maintains the lie to protect

Hamlet, By William Shakespeare
Hamlet was composed by William Shakespeare, first performed in July 1602 and first published in printed form in 1603. An inherent tension between
confrontation and resolution is revealed through Hamlet's characterisation within Shakespeare's play. It is evident that there is a significant level of
internal confliction that contributes to the amount of tension. Conflicted emotions, in relation to Hamlet's morals and beliefs, cause a distinct increase in
tension, yet recognition of ones human nature later enables resolution to occur. This significant amount of internal confliction is strongly related to the
notion of culture and religion. Throughout, Hamlet is conflicted over Christian or Renaissance Humanism ways of thinking, both of which are a
significant influence in Hamlet's actions and thought process. Furthermore, throughout the play, Hamlet is fixated on the physical and spiritual concept
of mortality. This concept is a significant factor in reference to Hamlet's characterisation as it causes internal, and external, confliction throughout the
course of Shakespeare's play. As this continues, Hamlet considers aspects of human nature, this being the psychological characteristics, emotions, and
behavioural traits that is deemed as shared by all of mankind. Therefore, recognition of this enables resolution, and thus a decrease in personal and
societal tension.
Throughout the course of the play, Hamlet is internally conflicted over the notion of mortality and suicide.

The Conflicted Daughter Of A Space Captain Characters
The conflicted daughter of a space Captain leads a mission of peace, but her quest becomes a pursuit for revenge against a malevolent dictator, when
an innocent girl is killed and the village people are enslaved.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS
BETH, the daughter of CAPTAIN ALAN, has always felt different and like an outcast. She has memories she can't explain. She doesn't have many
friends and thinks everyone hates her. She's good at whatever she does. When she's asked to lead a mission of peace on Earth, she befriends the
villagers. She quickly makes friends with a young girl, LEIGHA (10) and her family.
When ANGELIQUE, a ruthless dictator, attacks the village and takes slaves, Leigha is hurt. Beth unable to return to her own ship, takes Beth to the

She's likable. Sometimes she seems to talk and act too child–like. This is a concern. She's conflicted. She later has great inner turmoil about her
identity. She struggles with wanting peace, but being forced into a war. This is a theme nicely explored in the script. The problem with Beth is that
she's too perfect. Everyone likes Beth. Chris likes Beth, the villagers like Beth, etc. The only conflict she has is with Angelique. The other concern is
her immaturity (she cries a lot). For a producer looking for a heroine like Ripley from ALIEN, they may think Beth doesn't fit the role. Remember,
they too are looking for new franchise heroes.
Her relationship with Chris begins well. As kids/teens they share good chemistry, but nothing really develops, which is a bit disappointing. There's an
attempt to make her jealous and realize she loves him, but the audience isn't convinced they are in love.
Chris has potential. One likes that he wants to protect Beth and stands up for her, but he does fade in the middle and then comes back, but not as a true
romantic interest. Ending with her learning her true identity may not be the best ending. Maybe he learns the truth earlier and is conflicted about
loving a human, once a computer – she'll always be smarter than him.
The villagers don't feel engaging with the exception of

Scout Sexism Quotes
Throughout the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, one of the main characters, Scout, is impacted by sexism from her family, peers, and community. The
book is set in the 1930's when women were definitely not thought of as equal. There were certain social rules that girls should follow and the ways
that society told them to act. The scout is a character that is impacted by sexism throughout the story. She is a young girl that changes because of the
oppression that is placed on her by her family and peers. The character Scout is affected by sexism, which Harper Lee uses to develop the reader's
perception of Scout from indecisive and confined to determined, criticized, and conflicted and finally to confident, conflicted, and decisive. At the
beginning of the plot, Scout is indecisive and confined. The following quote helps to prove this point. " 'Scout, I'm telling' you for the last time, shut
your trap or go home–––I declare to the Lord you're getting more like a girl every day!' With that, I had no option but to join them " (69). Jam is

Scout does not feel exactly comfortable being around a group of women and she realizes it with this quote, " Rather nervous, I took a seat beside
Miss Maudie and wondered why ladies put on their hats to go across the street. Ladies in bunches always filled me with vague apprehension and a
firm desire to be elsewhere" (307). In that same scene, she succumbs to the pressures of the other women when asked what she wants to do when
she grows up, saying "Nome, just a lady" (308). Scout starts to realize that it is inevitable that she deals with the world of ladies. "There is no doubt
about it, I must soon enter this world, where on its surface fragrant ladies rocked slowly, fanned gently, and drank cool water. But I was more at home

Claudius As A Conflicted Character In William...
Shakespeare presents Claudius as a conflicted character with varying ideals regarding his nephew, Hamlet. His actions within this passage suggest
that he may actually possess some level of care for Hamlet at the beginning, but near the end, we see that Claudius holds deep disdain for Hamlet,
for he wants to kill him. Claudius is both highly intelligent yet infinitely devious. He is the personification of deception, and in a way, it is clear that
Claudius views himself as a sort of devil's advocate, always keeping half of his cards in view and the other half purposely out of sight. It is this level
of betrayal that Shakespeare utilizes to construct the primary plot of the story, for we see that virtually all other occurrences throughout the play are
built upon this deception and two–faced trickery. Through the use of personal soliloquies and side notes among the characters, Shakespeare is able to
reveal the true motives of his characters, the internal conviction that gives each character their own personalized flair. In the case of Claudius, most of
his motives are easily spotted by Hamlet, and it is this play upon the motives of differing characters that Shakespeare utilizes to build his plot. From
Hamlet's actions in this scene, we gain insight into his cynical and morbid ideology and sense of humor, this being seen from his jesting about having
killed Polonius and feeding his body to worms, his cynicism then being shown through his detailed description of how the matter

Theme Of Loyalty In Julius Caesar
lius Caesar final
Loyalty can reside in a person, place, or thing as betrayal can coexist in any situation. Even though, in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Brutus is
betraying Caesar due to Cassius's influence on him, he is never truly loyal to anyone accept the Roman Citizens. Brutus, friend to Caesar, is
valiant, and impressionable, but, he is a conflicted character because he is loyal to the Romans, but has decided to betray Caesar, who has been by
his side his entire life. His character exemplifies the themes of loyalty and betrayal when he is more supportive of the people rather than Caesar.
Brutus feels the ugly discomfort of betraying his friend, but since he is loyal to the Romans, he displays amalgamated emotions. Caesar is arrogant,
and ambitious, but he craves power because he feels weak, and unable to be strong, so he tries to fill that gap with power. Caesar also portrays the
themes of betrayal, and loyalty because he is loyal to the principles, but ultimately betrays those around him who care about him.
Brutus characterizes betrayal clearly in the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. Brutus finds himself in a personal strife, he feels he must
betray Caesar who has always supported him. Brutus exhibits deeply conflicted feelings about commiting a murderous act against his longtime friend
Caesar. Brutus says that, " It must be by his death, and for my part/ I know no personal cause to spurn at him/ But for the general" (Act II, i, 10–12).

Essay about The Conflicted Japan of Yukio Mishima’s...
The Conflicted Japan of Yukio Mishima's Spring Snow
Yukio Mishima was a revolutionary author. His dramatic public suicide is the perfect capstone to a life full of turmoil and unrest. Mishima himself
was as conflicted as his many stories and plays, which tend to play out the problem of which direction is Japan heading, and should the nation be
developing that way. Mishima romanticized the samurai and nurtured a lifelong affair with traditional Japanese theater. At the same time, he admired
the West and studied Western art and literature avidly. The influence is evident, from the decidedly 19th Century British feel of his novel,Spring Snow,
to the many references therein to Western art, literature, film, and philosophy. Mishima was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kiyoaki is he son of the Marquis Matsugae, a sort of nouveau–riche during the reign of the Meiji Emperor. Kiyoaki, a beautiful young man on the path
to success in the new Japan, is in love with his childhood friend, Satoko, the beautiful daughter of the Ayakura family. The Ayakuras are very
prominent, of higher aristocratic class than even Kiyoaki's family, and the Matsugaes view the closeness of the families as a fortune. Kiyoaki is a
moody, pensive boy who gets a thrill out of alternately rejecting and accepting Satoko's demure advances. Eventually the Ayakuras will wait no
more for Kiyoaki to make his approach for Satoko's hand in marriage, and, faced with another offer from an impressive suitor, Satoko becomes
engaged to be married. Kiyoaki realizes only as the situation escalates beyond any reparation that he truly loves Satoko. With the help of his friend,
Honda, the son of a judge in the Japanese court system, Kiyoaki begins an affair with her. The two meet cladestinely for sex, and Satoko eventually
becomes pregnant. Having violated multiple social barriers, and after the realization of Satoko's pregnancy, the couple are found out. Satoko is sent to
a nunnery, and Kiyoaki dies, presumably of heartache and the flu, at the age of 20.
The tragic story follows an arc not at all unlike British literature of the 19th Century. It makes since that Mishima would use that style to write this
novel; after all, given

The Case Of The Conflicted Surgeon
The Case of the Conflicted Surgeon Conflicts of interest are a common topic discussed in news outlets as it is a major source of corruption amongst
professionals. Most professionals rely on their own moral compasses to make ethical decisions. Unfortunately, this approach does not always work as
studies have shown that professionals can often recognize conflicts of interest for others, but fail to recognize them in their own lives. Thus, some
professionals take part in activities that often lead to legal actions taken against them which may result in the loss of their practitioner's license. This
paper will define what a conflict of interest is, what makes it unethical, how best to manage it when it occurs, and apply it to a case study to... Show

Because being a professional invites trust and vulnerability from their clients, a professional has both an obligation and a duty to maintain and appear
trustworthy. Conflicts of interest are unethical because it decreases a person's trustworthiness, and that that trust is essential in a professional– client
relationship. Professionals have a duty to both their clients and the public to be trustworthy and reliable. Therefore, anything that undermines or
compromises a professional's trustworthiness is unethical. It could be said that if a conflict of interest is morally wrong, then it implies that the
professional lacks virtues such as loyalty and integrity, and it creates the impression that the professional will be unreliable. It is because of this that
conflicts of interest are best to be avoided at all costs, or if it is unavoidable, then disclose what the conflict of interest is and manage the situation. If it
is possible, it is preferable that that the professional removes themselves from the situation before it becomes a possible conflict of interest. To do this,
they could either divest themselves from the situation, or recuse themselves from any kind of decision making process. For example, a land surveyor
could hire someone else to survey the land that they own; by doing so, they have removed themselves from the situation. When a conflict of interest is
unavoidable, then all pertinent information should be disclosed, and the

Americans Conflicted About Lying: An Analysis
How come people think lying is a very Satanic action, yet they do it so naturally? According to the articles, "It's the Truth:Americans Conflicted
About Lying" and "Lies, Lies, Lies" by Paul Gray, Michael Duffy, Priscilla Painton, and Elizabeth Rudulph reveal when lying is acceptable. Lying is
indeed not a pleasant thing to do or receive, but can ben used for an alternate purpose.
The first text, "Lies, Lies, Lies" found several types of lies, a few being known to protect other Anne Frank survived as long as she did because those

It's The Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying
Have you ever lied to avoid getting in trouble, or to protect someone's feelings? Most likely, since everyone lies at least once in their life. But then,
there's the big question: is lying justified? Most Americans say that white lies are okay, or lies to protect someone's feelings. Some say that it is never
justified, while others say that most lies are justified, even though by lying, it can have a bad consequence. My position is that lying is sometimes
justified if you're trying to protect someone. Lying to protect someone or their feelings is sometimes justified, while the other types of lies are not. In

The Future Of Financial Advise Legislation ( Fofa )
Part 1 In the Future of Financial Advise legislation (FOFA), there are three main focus areas were introduced from financial product advice. The
followings are "acting in the best interest of the client", "conflicted remuneration" and "disclosure". Acting in the best interests of the client (ASIC
RG175) It is refer as 'best interest duty'. The key element is when advice providers are giving support to their clients, that it is a suitable advise to
clients due to their clients' objectives, situations and needs but not the advisers' interests. And the advice provider may need to review the client's
financial situation and provide recommendation to client to meet their goals. For example, when there are product A got $100commissions and... Show

Therefore, a 'safe harbour' is designed to satisfy with the act in the best interests of the client. An advice provider requires to analyse reasonably
more enough the financial and other available information of clients to get a fully correct advice. If there is not enough information or no any
suitable product, the advice provider should decline to provide any advice to them. If do, providers require to examine the financial product that is
recommended and check the consequence. The reason why acting in the best interests of the client is part of the FOFA reform is that most retail
clients may experience loss as they rely on personal advice and that advice is conflicted. Also, the clients may not trust the advice provider much
because they do not know the information received is good or not. After the best interest duty regulation, it can improve the trust level to the advice
provider as clients understand there is a regulation that it is a priority to the advice providers need to consider objectives of clients. Besides, the
possibility of the conflicts occurred between advice providers and clients will decrease because of the difference in interest. In the recent government
announcement, there are some changes in the best interest duty. In the 'safe harbour' last steps, which is 'take any other steps in the client's best
interests'. Also, there is a removal of the 'catch–all' provision (section 961B(2)(g)). Therefore, a responsibility on the advice provider is

It's The Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying Analysis
Lying is something you have done, I have done, and everyone to ever live has done. Each and every person that denied that statement, at this moment
lied. Situations people lie in is an ultimately different matter in hand. The accustomed, influenced character of a person believes you should tell the truth

Revenge And Conflicted Conscience In William Shakespeare's...
In William Shakespeare's play, Hamlet, the playwright introduces the compelling, complex, and complicated character of the Prince of Denmark,
Hamlet. In the events of the play, Hamlet swears revenge against his uncle for the foul murder of his father, the king. However, despite his intense
catalyst, Hamlet reveals to be continuously torn between his motive of revenge and conflicted conscience, generating an inability to carry out his
desired actions. While Hamlet possesses the passion and intellect to murder his uncle, Claudius, his actual inclination to act upon the murder directly
opposes that of his powerfully emotional contemplations (S.T. Coleridge). Hamlet's overzealous thoughts become unrealistic compared to his actual
endeavors throughout the play. Hamlet's inability to act upon his emotions begins in the wake of his father's death and his mother's instantaneous
/hasty marriage to Claudius. Criticized for his prolonged mourning of his late father and insistence from his mother to move on, Hamlet must
momentarily seize publicly grieving for his father and in a lengthy expression of torment, contemplates suicide as he agonizes over the dreads of life
and the reality that "[he] must hold [his] tongue," in regards to his mourning (1.2.164). For the sake of his mother's request, Hamlet anguishes over
having to refrain from speaking of his grief, only to deliver a prolonged speech of his woes of mourning. While everyone in the kingdom of Denmark

The Art Of Peer Pressure Rhetorical Analysis
He knew that
robbing a house would not turn out well for him and used the more conversational word "karma" instead of the word consequences to refer to how he
thinks his actions would have repercussions. The word "karma" is often used when speaking about morals and has a contrast in elevation with the word
being more conversational than the most of his more colloquial word choices. This diction choice being of a different elevation than his other word
choices it helps create his moralistically conflicted voice as well as the fact that he is talking about the consequences of his actions, but because he
is with his friends he participated in activities that he knew weren't right. Lamar chose to use the word "shenanigans" to refer to PCP when he could
have used the colloquial term Angel Dust. The term "shenanigans" for PCP has a much more positive connotation than the term Angel Dust as well
as being even more of a colloquial word than Angel Dust. His moralistically conflicted voice is shown through this because his use of a more
positively connotated word rather than a more negatively connotated word for PCP because he knows he should not do PCP but does anyway since
he is with his friends. Lamar used the more positively connotated colloquial term word "homies" to refer to his friends, but they were the main reason
that he decided to work with them to rob the house because

Conflicted Relationships In Song Of Solomon By Toni Morrison
In the opening chapter of the 1977 novel Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison, the author presents a distant relationship between Macon Dead and his
estranged sister, Pilate. Macon is shown staring into the window of his sister's house, watching Pilate, her daughter Reba, and granddaughter Hagar. By
simply observing them from the outside of their house, he demonstrates the complex relationship between himself and the family members he is
watching. Morrison conveys this conflicted relationship through his use of setting, musical motif, and symbolism behind "Dead". While observing
Pilate, Reba, and Hagar he chooses to remain outside of Pilate's house. This being that he is both literally outside the house and figuratively being a
stranger in his family relationships. After closing into the house, "he crept up to the side window where the candlelight flickered lowest and peeped
in." He continued to stay out of sight from the girls due to there being a wedge between them. The complexity of their relationship keeps him from
even making contact with them, leaving him isolated. For the remainder of the narrative, he stays "Near the window, hidden by the dark". He finds that
he is unable to leave because he enjoys watching them however he doesn't choose to enter Pilate's house. He ends up staying outside because he was
reluctant to handle a complicated situation between him and his detached family. The narrator establishes a distinction between Macon and the girls in
the house

The Tell-Tale Heart Response

  • 1. The Tell-Tale Heart Response In the excerpt "from The Tell–tale Heart," Edgar Allan Poe creates the conflicted character of an unnamed narrator through indirect characterization. Using the components of the narrator's internal thoughts, the narrator's actions, and the narrator's dialogue, Poe depicts a story about guilt and reveals that some people will do whatever it takes to cover up their guilt, even if it means going against their conscience. Poe uses the narrator's internal thoughts to develop a character who clearly has many contradicting thoughts and feelings as he fights his inner conscience. In the beginning of this excerpt, Poe clearly describes what the narrator is thinking by saying in lines 2–3, "I went down to open it with a light heart, – for what had I now to fear?" Poe's use of the term "light heart" and stating that the narrator had nothing to fear demonstrates this man's battle against his own conscience after having just murdered a man. Later in the excerpt, in lines 27–28, Poe again describes the narrator's thoughts and feelings during an idle chat with the officers directly above the place where he has hidden the corpse of the old man under the floorboards. The narrator recalls the feelings he had by explaining, "My head ached, and I fancied a ringing in my ears." These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After being confronted by the police, the narrator was very calm and collected in dealing with them as he "bade the gentlemen welcome," (Poe 11–12) and "bade them search – search well" (Poe 15). In such a conflicted character, this illustrates the fight against the narrator's conscience. He obviously would not want to let the police in for fear of being caught, but at the same time, refusing to allow the police to search would arouse suspicion. Through the contradicting thoughts and actions of this unnamed narrator, we can see how conflicted and guilty the narrator ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Traditional Values Conflicted with a Modern Era in the... The 1920s was a decade of exhilarating societal changes and reflective cultural conflicts in the nation. For many Americans, the expansion of cities ignited the ascend of a consumer culture, the upsurge of mass entertainment, changes in the religious and moral climate, the boiling tensions of the black racial movement and the changing role of women in society. The United States was going through a cultural civil war where traditional values conflicted with an era of modernity. Mass culture and entertainment growth had a profound and often controversial impact on the nation in the 1920s. As the United States became urbanized, we became a mass–production/mass–consumption economy. This fueled better wages for the urban worker and more wealth for the investors, but not everyone benefited as the agricultural arena continued to decline and rural farmers suffered tragic losses. With better wages, the middle class consumer was able to purchase more modern conveniences such as washing machines, refrigerators and other appliances that made everyday living easier. But without doubt, one of the biggest impacts was the advent of the mass production of the automobile. Mass production made the automobile more affordable and many middleclass families could afford to own one. As more families could travel by automobile for vacations and entertainment, the need for service stations and roadside restaurants increased, as did the need for better highways. Americans were looking for more ways ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Dunstan Ramsey: A Childhood Conflicted, a Life Unlived Essay Dunstan Ramsey: A Childhood Conflicted, a Life Unlived The novel Fifth Business by Robertson Davies does away with the stigma that Canadian literature is dull and boring. A master of his art, Davies creates a cast of vivid characters and skillfully weaves them into a story about love, guilt, myth and redemption. With the effective use of first–person narrative, Fifth Business is written as a fictional memoir of the character Dunstable Ramsey, who grows up in the small town of Deptford in Ontario, Canada. As a boy, Dunstable was unmistakably very intelligent, gifted with an uncanny ability to read others. He was raised in a Scottish household by strict Presbyterian parents, who into him hammered several religious canons and tenets. Thus,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His hesitation to do so, however, stems from the events of Dunstan's youth and the conflict between his own values and those of Percy Boy Staunton, his mother and the Deptford society. These conflicting values lead Dustan to the cul–de–sac of an unlived life. One of the biggest influences on Dunstan Ramsey is his childhood friend and rival, Percy Boy Staunton. Throughout the novel, Dustan and Boy constantly compete against each other, but maintain a rather odd friendship. After the incident involving the snowball, the two boys deal with the situation in very different ways. Dustan feels extremely remorseful and guilty for his involvement. Boy, on the other hand, completely emancipates him from the situation and convinces himself that he had no hand in what happened to Mary Dempster: "I threw a snowball at you and I guess it gave you a good smack."(Davies 16) Dunstan is appalled at Boy's perversion of the incident, but becomes caught between his own impulse to reveal the truth and Boy's idea of how they should handle the situation. His inability to sort out these conflicting values leaves Dunstan to bear the guilt alone. The difference in the boys' values may be attributed to their upbringings. • 4. How Does Dysart Conflicted Normality Dysart's Conflicted Normality Normality, society's confining system of ideals, can force people to shed their originality and personality. Psychiatrists have the job of guiding those who stray from society's ideals back to an acceptable normality. In Equus by Peter Shaffer, psychiatrist Martin Dysart faces growing doubts about the morality of his position as he treats seventeen–year–old Alan Strang for an unordinary obsession with horses. Dysart's conflicted beliefs about his profession reveal the negative side to normality through the unhappiness of his normal life and by showing how stripping Alan of his passion strips the nature of his soul. Dysart's doubts about psychiatry stem from his personal life: a life within an unhappy marriage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Dysart mentions his task of enforcing normality, he wonders if Alan would have anything left without his passion since "it's the core of his life"(81). Alan's unusual worship defines his current personality and beliefs, so Dysart struggles to grasp why he must take away this passion. Yet Dysart follows the normal treatment path and rids Alan of his passion. Afterwards, Dysart admits that his treatment will likely turn Alan into an empty shell: "My desire might be to make this boy an ardent husband – a caring citizen – a worshipper of abstract and unifying God. My achievement, however, is more likely to make a ghost!"(107). Dysart changes Alan into another normal person, doomed for an average and boring life. Instead of having his eyes light up with passion, Alan will become a ghost, and another person devoid of any individuality. Subsequentially, Dysart's own suffering finally bursts out when he cries, "essentially I cannot know what I do – yet I do essential things. Irreversible, terminal things. I stand in the dark with a pick in my hand, striking at heads!"(108). Dysart does not know why he must destroy passion, yet knows that society thinks his job, as a psychiatrist, is essential. He damages children in irreversible ways, striking at heads like Alan striking at the horses' eyes in madness, all for the sake of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Art Of Peer Pressure Theme Analysis Peer Pressure and Morals Peer pressure. Bad decisions. Close calls. Consequences. In the reflective song "The Art of Peer Pressure", Kendrick Lamar details a day where he was under peer pressure, made bad decisions, had close calls, and narrowly escaped the consequence of his actions. Lamar was with some friends smoking blunts that ended up to be laced with PCP. The combination of the PCP and peer pressure from his friends caused Lamar to agree to go along with his friends plan to rob a house. Throughout the song "The Art of Peer Pressure", Kendrick Lamar creates a moralistically conflicted voice with a combination of diction choices, imagery and syntax choices. The story of how Lamar was with some friends and being with those friends influenced him to rob a house with them something he would not normally do was emphasised by various diction choices Lamar made. He knew that robbing a house would not turn out well for him and used the more conversational word "karma" instead of the word consequences to refer to how he thinks his actions would have repercussions, the use of the word "karma" is often used when speaking about morals and has a contrast in elevation with the word being more conversational than the most of his more colloquial word choices, because this diction choice is different elevation than his other word choices it helps create his moralistically conflicted voice as well as the fact that he is talking about the consequences of his actions, but since he ... • 6. Conflicted About Lying Imagine coming home after a day with your friends at the mall. When your parents ask you where you where, you tell them that you were working on a school project with your friends. What did you do when you told them you were working on a project? You were lying. Lying is something everyone has done in their life. So what exactly is lying? The definition of lying is an intentionally false statement. Even keeping silent if you know something is a lie, just a different type of lie than saying something intentionally incorrect. Some people have different views on lying than others. Some people think that telling any lie is fine. Others say that lies of any kind are dishonest and should not be used. Then, there are the people that believe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nobody wants to lose a friendship over being tired. Nobody wants to be told derogatory things about himself or herself. However, not only white lies are acceptable, other lies are justified to like saving somebody from severe harm. They don't have to be innocent, you just need a acceptable reason. Radicalists on the other hand believe it is never justified to lie, no matter how extreme the case in question is. They believe that lying is mortal, and being called a liar was a terrible insult on their moral and their dignity. They also believed, and still believe, that a lie that does not really affect anything at all is still unacceptable because it "harms mankind individuality" which is a different standpoint from what is usually thought by the rest of the population. However since we grow up lying from being a toddler, it is impossible to change what we do. We all have lied and will continue to lie all our life no matter how hard we try not to. There is no way to reprogram our bodies to do something we aren't supposed to. This counters Kant's radicalist ideas that we should never lie. All in all, the claim that it is always justified to lie for any cause and any reason is correct as we all have started lying at a young age and is an irreversible trait we mature as we get ... The context gives us some visualization as to Daisy's physical appearance stating "the young girl's eyes were singularly honest and fresh. There is also much that we did not learn about Daisy in the book being that she was only pictured as a girl who wanted pleasure and gave pleasure to guys, what she ultimately lacked was the want to stay committed to one man and be able to love them unconditionally. She wanted to love someone for the night and then move on to the next one. Brutus's conflict was started by Cassius and the conspirators. Like Brutus says in his soliloquy, he has no reason to kill Caesar. Caesar has not done anything to Brutus for Brutus to give in to the conspirators. Cassius tried to convince Brutus that Caesar is a tyrant and should be killed to prevent the downfall of rome. The only reason that Cassius wants brutus on his side is because the people of rome believe in Brutus and they respect him. Cassius believes that if Brutus is on board with the assassination of Caesar that the people of Rome will not be against the murder of Caesar. Before Brutus gives in to Cassius and the conspirators for the death of Caesar, he tries to convince himself that it is the right thing to do by trying to convince the people of Rome. Brutus gives this a long thought and finally gives in to Cassius. Because Brutus convinces the people and himself that the murder of Caesar is the right thing for Rome it became successful and Rome did not uprise. She blames the business for forgetting Willy in his old age, and passing him over like an orange peel. • 15. The Wolf: Society's Conflicted Relationship With Nature Regarded and castigated, the wolf emblematizes society's conflicted relationship with nature. A bronze statue of a wolf guarded the shrine of Apollo at Delphi; a wolf hunts down a child in Little Red Riding Hood. Plains Indians admired the wolf as a remarkable hunter, as well as a guide to the spirit world; American settlers slaughtered more than a million wolves during the 1800s. Trappers killed wolves that breached their traplines and sold the pelts for a dollar apiece. Stockmen's associations awarded bounties for dead wolves. The slaughter was advocated by an ancient antagonism. Even Teddy Roosevelt, the cowboy conservationist, called the wolf a "beast of waste and desolation" and hunted it fiercely. An experimental population, under section 10 of the Endangered Species Act, is thought as unnecessary and admits more management flexibility. Most scientists assumed that wolves would not tremendously decrease populations of mule deer, bison, bighorn sheep, white–tailed deer, or pronghorns; they could possibly have insignificant effects on cougars and grizzly bears. Their existence could cause the recession of coyotes and increase of red foxes. In 1991, Congress administered funds to the US Fish and Wildlife Service to develop an environmental impact statement (EIS) on the restoration of wolves with the guidance and support of the National Park Service and the US Forest Service. In June 1994, after many years and a near–record number of public criticism, the Secretary of the Interior signed the Record of Decision for the final EIS for restoration of gray wolves to Yellowstone National Park and central Idaho. Internal Conflict And Corruption In Perry Capote's Although Perry appears to be innocent in the first two sections, Capote's true intent is to further complicate Perry's inherently good disposition; therefore Dicks manipulation creates internal conflict and corruption within Perry. Despite Perry's addiction toward drugs, Capote reveals that Perry is so dependent towards Dick, it's addictive like drugs. Capote relates Dick to narcotics by writing, "The sound of Dick's voice was like an injection of some potent narcotic, a drug that, invading his veins, produced a delirium of colliding sensations: tension and relief, fury and affection" (Capote 194). The comparison of Dick's voice and an addictive narcotic, a simile, emphasizes how Perry depends on Dick, even though the side effects are dangerous. Huck's Conflicted Character in Twain's Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn The first eleven chapters of Adventures establish Huck's character prior to his journey on the river with Jim. Dealing with external difficulty is easy for Huck, as he consistently adapts to his environments; however, his actions contradict his desires, revealing that Huck is conflicted. Initially, religion is appealing to Huck when the Widow Douglas tries teaching him: "After supper she got out her book and learned me about Moses and the Bulrushers; and I was in a sweat to find out all about him" (220). Huck's passivity towards Tom is likely a result of thecompanionship Tom offers. Huck reports "I felt so lonesome I most wished I was dead" (221) just prior to going out at night with Tom and going along with his fantasy–derived descriptions and rules for the gang (222–5). Ultimately, Tom's company is more important to Huck than honesty. Though not technically an orphan, Huck seems to wish he were, as he provides insight to his indifference towards his father: "Pap hadn't been seen for more than a year, and that was comfortable for me; I didn't want to see him no more" (226). Upon returning, Pap inflicts such physical and mental abuse on Huck, including captivating him, that Huck resolves to not only flee the situation, but also kill his father, after being threatened with a knife. "I slipped the ramrod down it to make sure [the gun] was loaded, and then I laid it across the turnip barrel, pointing towards pap, and set down behind it to wait for him to stir" (237). Without any analysis, the reader can safely assume that Beowulf practices Christianity because the character gives thanks to God on a regular basis. An inherent tension between confrontation and resolution is revealed through Hamlet's characterisation within Shakespeare's play. It is evident that there is a significant level of internal confliction that contributes to the amount of tension. Conflicted emotions, in relation to Hamlet's morals and beliefs, cause a distinct increase in tension, yet recognition of ones human nature later enables resolution to occur. This significant amount of internal confliction is strongly related to the notion of culture and religion. Throughout, Hamlet is conflicted over Christian or Renaissance Humanism ways of thinking, both of which are a significant influence in Hamlet's actions and thought process. Furthermore, throughout the play, Hamlet is fixated on the physical and spiritual concept of mortality. This concept is a significant factor in reference to Hamlet's characterisation as it causes internal, and external, confliction throughout the course of Shakespeare's play. As this continues, Hamlet considers aspects of human nature, this being the psychological characteristics, emotions, and behavioural traits that is deemed as shared by all of mankind. Therefore, recognition of this enables resolution, and thus a decrease in personal and societal tension. • 24. Claudius As A Conflicted Character In William... Shakespeare presents Claudius as a conflicted character with varying ideals regarding his nephew, Hamlet. His actions within this passage suggest that he may actually possess some level of care for Hamlet at the beginning, but near the end, we see that Claudius holds deep disdain for Hamlet, for he wants to kill him. Claudius is both highly intelligent yet infinitely devious. He is the personification of deception, and in a way, it is clear that Claudius views himself as a sort of devil's advocate, always keeping half of his cards in view and the other half purposely out of sight. It is this level of betrayal that Shakespeare utilizes to construct the primary plot of the story, for we see that virtually all other occurrences throughout the play are built upon this deception and two–faced trickery. Through the use of personal soliloquies and side notes among the characters, Shakespeare is able to reveal the true motives of his characters, the internal conviction that gives each character their own personalized flair. In the case of Claudius, most of his motives are easily spotted by Hamlet, and it is this play upon the motives of differing characters that Shakespeare utilizes to build his plot. From Hamlet's actions in this scene, we gain insight into his cynical and morbid ideology and sense of humor, this being seen from his jesting about having killed Polonius and feeding his body to worms, his cynicism then being shown through his detailed description of how the matter ... Because being a professional invites trust and vulnerability from their clients, a professional has both an obligation and a duty to maintain and appear trustworthy. Conflicts of interest are unethical because it decreases a person's trustworthiness, and that that trust is essential in a professional– client relationship. Professionals have a duty to both their clients and the public to be trustworthy and reliable. Therefore, anything that undermines or compromises a professional's trustworthiness is unethical. It could be said that if a conflict of interest is morally wrong, then it implies that the professional lacks virtues such as loyalty and integrity, and it creates the impression that the professional will be unreliable. It is because of this that conflicts of interest are best to be avoided at all costs, or if it is unavoidable, then disclose what the conflict of interest is and manage the situation. If it is possible, it is preferable that that the professional removes themselves from the situation before it becomes a possible conflict of interest. He knew that robbing a house would not turn out well for him and used the more conversational word "karma" instead of the word consequences to refer to how he thinks his actions would have repercussions. The word "karma" is often used when speaking about morals and has a contrast in elevation with the word being more conversational than the most of his more colloquial word choices.
