Battle Of Horseshoe Bend Strengths And Weaknesses
The Battle of Horseshoe Bend illustrated some important lessons that are as applicable to today's
military operational environments as they were back then These lessons are timeless. Studying this
battle can help leaders and Commanders identify strengths and weakness that lead to mission
success and enemy defeat. General Andrew Jackson had engaged the enemy Creek Indians in
previous battles. He was able to learn valuable lessons and make adjustments to ensure that the
Battle of Horseshoe Bend achieved his operational objectives and had the desired end state for
mission success.
Armies cannot sustain or conduct combat operations without effective logistical supply lines. Lack
of supplies lead to poor morale and capitulation of forces. Jackson led several campaigns against the
Creek Indians prior to the Battle of Horseshoe Bend but could not accomplish his operational
objectives due to a lack of supplies and long supply lines. In the winter of 1814, Jackson suffered
great losses when he led an Army of inexperienced, undisciplined and under supplied forces to fight
the Red Sticks at Emuckfau and Enotochopco. He barely escaped with his life and was forced to
retreat to Fort Strother.
After winter, in March of 1814, Jackson left Fort Strother with the intent to extend supply lines by
building a new fort which came to be known as Fort Williams. This fort was closer to Horseshoe
bend and General Jackson was determined to achieve victory and defeat the Red Sticks at the

My Bubble Research Paper
In the past, I was not the most outgoing of people. I never spoke over others, and I only opened my
mouth when asked. I always let others walk over me because I feared confrontation. I lived within
my own bubble of safety. As long as I stayed within the boundaries of everything and away from
everyone, I convinced myself that this was the most efficient way to live. No problems with anyone
else, and no problems within my life. Although the life I lived was very safe, it was also very
colorless. This mindset of safety clouded over me and influenced almost all of my choices.
I never seemed to muster up the courage to talk to new people and stayed within my circle of
friends. I never branched out, I never tried out for sports, or the school musical or anything new
because I feared the results would not turn out in my favor. Even food wise, I did not try new things.
Growing up in a Filipino household, I was offered a plethora of diverse cultural foods; I however,
had a very strict diet of apple slices and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. This tied to my mindset
of staying within my safety bubble. Trying new things was against my entire being, as if I would
malfunction like a robot without oil. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I came to the grave realization that our cabinets were dry of all things seemingly edible to me. All
foods that existed within my safety universe had unknowingly all slipped away from me at once. My
mother eventually returned home, hours after wallowing in my famine, which only allowed for my
hunger to grow greater than it has ever been. My ravenous self rejoiced when I saw a white takeout
bag in her hands. I pounced over to her, only for myself to discover my only hope for sustenance
was, mozzarella sticks. This began an internal battle within myself on whether I should allow myself
to starve or try something new, which was far beyond any beliefs that existed for

The Harp Research Paper
The Harp
"There is a legend passed down from generation to generation of a great harp. This harp is no
ordinary harp, it is said to be magical. The harp is also said to grant anyone's wish. Legend has it
that the harp is somewhere here in the Rocky Mountains," Earle told his son Xavier. Xavier's face
was lit with a spark of curiosity and excitement.
His father had told him this 3 years ago, when he was only 11. Now his father is ill. Earle can't
afford a doctor so Xavier decided to hunt for the harp. Xavier did not set out on his journey
unprepared and alone, though. Xavier brought along his dog named Buddy, a pocket knife, water,
plenty of food, and last of all, a map of the area.
At the first light of dawn, Xavier and Buddy headed off ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Ouch!" Xavier yelped out in pain as he tried to stand back up. He realized that he must have
twisted his ankle. He sat down for a moment searching around for something to use as a sort of
crutch. He saw a big stick and decided to use that. He stood up and got to work on the big stick.
"This stick will be too big for me to use" he thought to himself. "Oh!" he exclaimed, suddenly
having thought of an idea. He pulled out his pocket knife and started whittling away at the stick until
he had cut a good chunk of it off.
He picked up the stick using it as a support and continued walking towards the sound. He came
across a parting area between the trees and walked through. Across the raging river, he saw the
magic harp of the legend. "So it's true, it really is true.", he whispered to himself.
Then he realized the raging river that stands between him and the harp, "How am I going to cross
that? Huh." He saw more sticks across the way and started to put them together to look like a raft.
He then went to a tree nearby to cut a vine and tied the raft together. He pushed the raft onto the
shore. Xavier and Buddy both got on the raft and with the walking stick as a paddle, they took off
into the river. The raging river shook the raft so hard and Xavier managed to hold on. Buddy was not
as lucky, however. Buddy fell into the river and got carried off by the strong current. Xavier
screamed and cried for Buddy but he could not help his

Dog Fighting Persuasive Speech
Dog fighting Imagine, you are in a cage, your side aches, your ears are torn and bleeding. Cruel
faces study you through the the bars. A gruff, high voice asks another "since he lost, will we kill
im?" "Maybe, but the boss is the one who will decide, Jerry" a scratchy voice answers in return. A
large face with a bulbous nose peers at you. You whimper, trying to signal the pain you are in. The
man just laughs, and says "Sorry, you little scamp, if the boss doesn't kill ye, ye going to da pound.
A man with a tall frame enters the room, his voice is like sandpaper on rough stone. " Is this the
stupid mutt that lost me 1,000 dollars?" His voice is surprisingly calm but with a menacing edge.
"Well, mutt, you look in pain, let me do something to ease your suffering." Without another word, he
lifts a small black object and with a defining bang, everything goes black. Dog fighting needs to

Dog fighting needs to have a harsher punishment because it allows owners to train their dogs in
horrible circumstances. In one case in England, there are reports of dogs and owners who come to
children's playgrounds to train the dogs to fight. In the article, it said the people make the dogs bite
on to the equipment and hang off it to strengthen their bite before the illegal fight. "I find it
absolutely astonishing that anyone is stupid enough to train fighting dogs but to do so in children's
playground shows quite remarkable levels of idiocy and selfishness. There have been to many
reports in the media of young children being seriously injured by dogs so to train a fighting dog in a
playground and to condition it to behave violently around play equipment which is used by toddlers
is one of the most despicable things that I have heard in a long time." said Chris Bond, the council
member for the Enfield council in England. There is also evidence found that dogs are forced to
train their jaws by ripping off bark from trees. This is killing trees as well as hurting their jaws. This
is why dog fighting

My Family and I were at home eating dinner. After dinner I told my mom that I had left something
on top of the mountain, so she said "'go up to get it Mary. But she didn't want me to go alone so I

it was really dark and 2 hours had already passed and I couldn't my way off the mountain because it

I woke up around 6:30 in the morning and I realized I had not eaten in days and I was starving. So I
went out and started looking for something to eat, but I couldn't find anything, then out of the corner
of my eye I saw a rabbit so I jumped for But unfortunately I missed and the rabbit hopped away. So
I went back to the camp, and I sat there and I was thinking how was I going to catch any animals
then it hit me.I started out in the woods looking of a curved stick and eventually after looking for
one for about twenty minutes I found one I tried to break it but it was to hard so it was a good stick.
So I started walking back to camp when I got there I took one of my shoelaces and tied it to the stick
the shoelace was nice and sturdy so I knew this was going to be a good bow.
So the next day I went out to the woods again and started looking for arrows. I found a few good
sticks and took them back to camp and started sharpening them. I put a little crease in the end of the
arrow and then put in the quiver then I shot it and surprisingly it went pretty far probably a good 20
feet. So I took it out and started looking for food then I saw it a rabbit sitting right in front of me I
put the arrow in the quiver and I shot it. I took it back to camp and I realized I had to skin it so I
used my rock knife to skin it and I found another straight stick to stab the rabbit and then I cooked it

Narrative Essay About The First Day Of School
"Ahh", Ronnie yawns, as he gets up for his first day of school. The door creeks open as his mom
peeks inside to check if Ronnie is awake.
His mom in her calm soothing voice asks, "Are you excited for your first day of school?" Ronnie
sees in his mother's eyes that she herself was excited for him to start middle school.
Ronnie replies, "Not really." He was, however, excited to see his friends that he hasn't seen since
summer break. Ronnie gets up and dresses up in the best outfit he could find to impress his friends.
While walking down stairs Ronnie smells the air."Mmm blueberry pancakes, my favorite" Ronnie
says as he sniffs the air with delightment.
His mom rarely makes blueberry pancakes, so Ronnie takes full advantage of this and devours the
squishy dough with the juicy blueberries until he was satisfied. Ronnie's dad comes downstairs and
asked in his very low voice "Are you ready to go to school?''
Trying to chew the last of the pancakes, he replied, "Yeah". So he grabs his backpack from the seat
next to him.
But before they leave his mom kisses him on the cheek and says "Have a good day sweetie!" They
opened the door, Ronnie waved bye to his mom and off to school they went.
During the car ride his dad asks him loads of question such as, "Are you excited" or "Do you have
all of your stuff" so Ronnie just played along and answered his questions. When they arrived, Ronnie
scanned the campus for his friends. As he's scanning, his friends Joseph and Eddie sneaks

Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
There is a little evil deep down beneath most people. Lord of the Flies, by Nobel–Prize winning
English author William Golding, describes the journey of a group of young boys who wake up
stranded on an deserted island and describes how they try to survive, all while trying to get rescued.
The struggles of survival demonstrate the savagery and transformation of some boys adapting to the
environment on the island. Many of the boys become wild animals although there are three in
particular who show their inner beast the most, Jack, Roger and the Lord of the Flies himself.
Paragraph 2 – Subtopic A
Quotes:
–"Kill the pig, bash him in, kill the pig cut his throat"
–Use a littlun
– highlighted area...will be changing
Jack is one of the boys who tries to destroy Ralph's group rather than work with them. Jack becomes
a dominant dictator and overpowers the others (how? will you explain this?). As the novel
progresses, the dark side of humanity takes over Jack and his thoughts of survival. Firstly, Jack
declares that anyone holding the conch may have the right to speak in front of the group. We
actually see Jack contributing to the whole group and giving suggestions as to how the boys may
actually survive. "'Ralph, I'll split up the choir–my hunters, that is –into groups, and we'll be
responsible for keeping the fire going." (Golding 59) His dark side is obviously demonstrated when
Robert, the boy who stands in for the boar in the reenactment, is nearly killed as the other boys

Personal Narrative-Homeless?
A burning sensation reverberated throughout my body, creeping up my spine and clenching the
insides of my body. I tried twisting out of the bush but it was no use. The branches around me had
engulfed me, leaving me to dry out in the scorching sunlight. Several months being stuck in the
golden meadows under a suffocating sky of perfect blue was smothering me. The curse made me
weak, I lost consciousness many times and having only one leg made from wood was useless. I
closed my heavy eyelids and waited for another indistinguishable day to pass by.
The sound of light footsteps approaching; ploughing through the rustling leaves; awoke me. I
opened my eyes to find two cold hands tugging at the bottom of me. I was startled when they
managed to yank me free. The cascading golden fields stretched out over the horizon and amidst it
all, I saw an old woman whose soft hazelnut eyes crinkled into a colourless expression. She wore a
dark mauve shawl that hung over her broad shoulders, showing off her light purple gown. ... Show

found a branch that was the perfect size for her and quickly followed the trail of semi–crunchy
squashed leaves that she had left behind. I hopped around her, stopping her in the middle of her
pathway and gave her the stick.

"We'll figure it out" Mike said while putting the saw in the back of the truck. The two boys headed
out onto the property in the family's truck. It was a blue and white 1975 crew cab desil Chevy. They
drove down the driveway to the right of a huge feild that was once farmed but was now a prarie and
to the left of a large forest, where the Zimmerman's hunt deer and grouse.
The driveway was lined with old hard woods. Oak trees a hundred years old, taken there time to
form into their own unique shape. They came upon a dead maple tree. The tree clearly stood there
for some time. All the leaves were gone and the bark fell off exposing the ghostly white remains of
the tree. Mike hops out and goes around to the bed of the truck where he flipps the tailgate down
and pulls the chainsaw out. George leans up against the truck and gets comfortable. Mike yanks the
chord and goes straight for the tree. Starting at the bottom he cuts down at a 45 degree angle and
went straight in below that so the two cuts would meet. He went around to the other side and cut a
slit just above the notch and the tree began to fall.
"TIMBER!!!!" Mike yelled and George laughed as he started to lean away from the truck.
"That wasn't as hard as I thought it was gonna be" Mike said.

How I Build A Teepee Fire
Data gathered from the National Vital Statistics System says that from 1999 to 2011, a total of
16,911 deaths in the United States for an average of 1,301 deaths per year that was associated with
exposure to excessive natural cold. Many of these deaths could have been prevented if a fire was
built to warm the victim, or a signal for help. In the following paragraphs I will explain how to build
a teepee fire to whomever is reading this. It will cover all the basic skills and techniques needed to
build a successful tepee fire. I will also give some tips and tricks I've learned over the years.
Frist off to build a fire I need to gather my materials. These materials are as follows: a lighter, rocks,
a place to build the fire, some wood of all different sizes, a pocketknife, and about two handfuls of a
tinder. So now you must be wondering what tinder is? Well it's simple; tinder is a material that you
light to start a fire. Tinder is also considered to be stage one in the fire building process. Which
means it's the first material in the fire to burn, and it needs to light the next level. Materials that can
be used as tinder is newspaper, dryer lint, hay, and cardboard.
You also may be wondering why a pocketknife. Well it's so that if I need to cut something I have a
tool for the job. So after I gather up a lighter, pocketknife, and about two handfuls of tinder. I need
to find a place to build the fire. It should be a place where there is somewhat level ground, and is at
least 15

"It's all getting out of control," said Steve O'Brien, 26, of Dorchester, father of two youth league
players. "You can already see outrageous events at even younger kids' games."
Just weeks earlier, at a Winthrop youth hockey game, Paul Johnson, 39, of Melrose, was charged
with assaulting a 19–year–old hockey referee, Mark Ceruolo, in a Feb. 29 game at Winthrop's
Lawrence N. Larsen Rink.
"I let my emotions get the best of me when I saw my son get hit from behind," Johnson said in a
written public apology. "He got hit so hard that his full–face helmet went flying off. At the time I
thought he would have been seriously injured.
"I never should have reacted that way nor yelled 'that's my son,' at the referee," Johnson continued.
"I am very sorry."
Following the hit, and without a stoppage of play being called, Johnson allegedly grabbed Ceruolo
by the neck, trying to pull him into the Melrose team bench.
Winthrop police filed an application for a criminal complaint against Johnson but the matter was
dropped when a clerk at the East Boston District Court declined to act on the matter due to Ceruolo's
unwillingness to pursue the matter.
Massachusetts Hockey, the governing body of youth hockey in the state, banned Johnson from
coaching following the incident.

Lacrosse : The Creators Game
For decades the sport of lacrosse has been played around the world. Originating in North America,
lacrosse was played by the Native Americans for a variety of reasons. Known as "The Creators
Game", Lacrosse was used as a substitute for war and in spiritual practices as well. Lacrosse began
with simple and elegant sticks, but with the use of technology has being adopted lacrosse now uses
pads such as helmets and gloves as well as sticks that are made from metal. Throughout the Native
Americans history the game was originally played by men and with the same rules, in the current era
this has all changed. Throughout its existence, lacrosse was perceived as a brutal and violent sport
that was played by savages, but it actually has a expansive history and meaning.
The Creators Game
Lacrosse was one of many indigenous stick–ball games that was being played by American Indians
when the Europeans arrived in the Americas. The name of the sport was given its name by early
French settlers, using the generic term for a game played with a ball and a curved stick called a
"Crosse". "Native terminology, however, tends to describe more the technique (cf. Onondaga
DEHUNTSHIGWA'ES, "men hit a rounded object") or, especially in the southeast, to underscore
the game's aspects of war surrogacy ("little brother of war")." (Vennum) It is most notable from
other sports by using a netted racquet, which is used to pick up, pass, throw and ultimately score by
throwing the ball past a goal. The

Short Story: Gilligan's Island
Greg lay unconscious at the base of Sailor rock for nearly four hours. He woke to a raging headache
that pounded through his skull and pain in his leg, so horrific, it had to be hell. When he worked up
the courage to look at his leg, he wished he hadn't. His shin bent in half, jutting unnaturally to the
side–the remaining bone, the fibula, was now broken as well.
The precise splinting of *this* break was now more crucial than ever. Greg gathered the sticks and
ties from the old splint that lay scattered about. Knowing the pain that would be coming, he put a
soft stick between his teeth, and took a slow deep breath. The torture of straightening out the bones

All Quiet On The Western Front Comradeship Analysis
"We all share the same fear and the same life;we are nearer than lovers, in a simpler, a harder way;I
could bury my face in them, in these voices, these words that have saved me and will stand by me".
Comradeship is vital in war, because it keeps soldiers human. The theme of comradeship in All
Quiet on the Western Front is embraced when the soldiers rescue each other during battle, stick
together and not become separated, and keep each other's spirits up in the darkest of days.
Soldiers rescuing each other during battle shows comradeship. While fighting on the front line, Paul
becomes separated from his comrades and cannot search for them for fear of being shot down. "It is
Kat and Albert who have come out with a stretcher to look for me," (Remarque 227). Paul's friends
coming to search for him shows comradeship because they are being brave and risking their lives to
find their friend. Going out to look for Paul shows that they care about and value him. During a
bombardment, new recruits are traumatized, scared, and helpless because they do not know what to
do, so veterans quickly teach them. "We teach them to fling themselves into holes as quick as
lightning..."(Remarque 134). The soldiers try to help each other during battle, which displays
comradeship because veterans want to help them live. They aren't doing this to have bodies to fight,
but to save human souls. Comradeship is embraced by soldiers rescuing and teaching each other
during war.
Comradeship is also shown when

Persuasive Essay On Women's Hockey
"If we allow the sport to go on without helmets then eventually we will have an NFL situation on
our hands where we are trying to unwind years worth of denial and neglect while grown women
suffer the effects of head injury" (Cochran). Many compare the "friendly" game of women's lacrosse
to the brutal, physical sport of football, but that should not be the case. This is why women must
have more protection when playing lacrosse. Checking, concussions, and helmets are all major
reasons to supply this gear. Before one can deem women's lacrosse as dangerous, they must
understand the overall concept of the game. The rules of women's lacrosse are actually quite simple.
There are twelve players on the field at all times including the goalkeeper during the sixty minute
duration of the game that has two halves. The object of the game is to cradle, catch, pass, and ...

Although it is an illegal action within the sport's rules, violent checking will and does happen. The
rules on checking are quite easy to understand, but they are in great depth. " Field players may pass,
catch or run with the ball in their crosse. A player may gain possession of the ball by dislodging it
from an opponent's crosse with a check. A check is a controlled tap with a crosse on an opponent's
crosse in an attempt to knock the ball free. The player must be one step in front of her opponent in
order to check. No player may reach across an opponent's body to check the handle of a crosse when
she is even with or behind that opponent. A player may not protect the ball in her crosse by cradling
so close to her body or face so as to make a legal, safe check impossible for the opponent. All legal
checks must be directed away from a seven–inch sphere or "bubble" around the head of the player"
(Marquette). Checking from the stick is the number one reason for injury in women's lacrosse and it

Gym class would always start with the same routine of changing into different clothes in the locker
room, and preparing your mindset to sweat.
"Hannah! Did you by any chance bring an extra pair of gym shorts today?" Kaelyn asked me with a
slight look of hope in her eyes.
"No Kaelyn... why would I bring two pairs of gym shorts? It's not like I'm going to wet myself or
anything," I stated. I crushed her small sense of hope.
"I'm freaking out because I forgot my shorts, and all I have are these black sweatpants that I am
currently wearing. I'll sweat way too much if I wear these for gym! To be honest, I'm already
sweating buckets," said Kaelyn as she was twirling her wavy brunette hair and biting her already
short nails nervously.
The door keeps frantically slamming shut as the overly hyper girls leave the dull looking locker
room.
"Let's go guys!" shouted a petite, quiet girl.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're coming Ashlyn." Kaelyn and I both said as we started moseying towards
the door. Everyone else was already up there and waiting to start.
"You, in the red shorts and Reeboks, get up here! And you in the pink and purple horizontal striped

Hockey Stick History
Many of you are perhaps aware of the "World's Oldest Known Hockey Stick" that was in the news a
couple of years ago. Its most recent former owner, Mark Presley of Berwick, NS, sold it to the
Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec in January of 2015 for $300,000. Presley
happened upon the stick during the year 2000 as it hung on the wall of a North Sydney barber shop.
The building's proprietor at the time, George Ferneyhiugh, who has since retired from the
haircutting trade, had it hanging there since the early 1980s. The relic's original owner was William
Moffatt of North Sydney's Pottle Lake area and it is referred to as the "Moffatt Stick." Carved into
the stick's blade are the initials, "WM." In 2008 Presley purchased the stick from Ferneyhiugh for a
sum of $1,000 and then proceeded to find out the relic's long history. He took the stick to Mount
Allison University in Sackville, NB where experts in dendrochronology –– the science of dating
events through the study of growth rings in trees –– performed tests. They determined that the stick's
wood came from a tree that was chopped down somewhere between 1835 and 1838 making it the
oldest known hockey stick. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Happy Gilmore Character Analysis
Happy Gilmore is a comedic 90's movie about the transition from an ineffective hockey player to a
talented golfer. This is a 1996 film, Adam Sandler, who portrays Happy Gilmore faces few obstacles
when learning how to play golf. The reason why he joins a golf tournament was that he needed the
money to save his grandmother's house. His grandmother has not pay taxes for past 10 years so she
owed $270,00 otherwise her home would be lost. Happy Gilmore is a naïve and absurd character
that struggles with anger issues but later learns how to deal with it through dumb childish humor.
Throughout the golf tournament, he has a nemesis, Shooter Mcgavin, who is arrogant that gets
jealous at Happy Gilmore for his hidden talent at golf. Although Gilmore has serious anger issues,
his patience and dedication teach the audience that one's passion is not always something one is
good at.
One of the eye–catching concepts that are hard to miss is Happy's aggression in sports. He is either
yelling, cursing, fighting or attacking someone throughout this film. At the beginning of the film
when he was trying out for the hockey team, there is a scene where he loses his temper. He didn't
make the team so he attacked the coach for being cut. Then there is the scene when he is mad at his
girlfriend so he yells at her but then changes to innocent sad boyfriend voice and just kept switching
off between those two personas. This was very interesting to watch because he was two different

Why Is Sugar Shack Johnny Novak
SUGAR SHACK JOHNNY NOVAK "JACK" by Craig Fleming Joe Novak, aka "Sugar Shack
Johnny," aka "Jack," was a complicated man, who lived a life that was in many ways, larger than
life. He was a tough, intelligent, compassionate, and inarguably fearless man who was incredibly
comfortable in his own skin. He is missed and remembered with a lot of love. Joe Novak had bigger
balls than anyone I have ever known, and those big balls were securely connected to his big heart. I
am still intrigued, to this day, by the harmony, and conflict, between his passion for knowledge,
empathy, and brawn – it was a very rare combination of qualities, with the all the raw emotion and
complexity of a classical music composition. Joe essentially conducted "pool ... Show more content

Some of his tactics paralleled famed martial artist, Bruce Lee philosophies – "Be unpredictable,"

all definitions, a "One of a Kind" human being. I am proud to have known him and to have been his
friend. I can still hear his grizzly bear voice, and his laughter, in my heart, and in the unsettled
corners of my mind. "Sugar Shack Johnny," as he was known in the pool halls of days gone by, had
a rare combination of heart, muscle, and mind. He knew about hard roads and hard rides, and he
loved life. Novak was a fearless tush hog. Even more impressively, Sugar Shack would not carry a
gun, although many of his enemies did carry guns. It is impossible for me to perceive him as his
adversaries did, way back then. He may have been unfairly stereotyped in the darkness of the
countless pool halls he undoubtedly knew inside and out, because he had a fearless confidence about
him, borne of circumstance and an irrepressible will to succeed. But most remarkably, there was a
timeless light that emanated from his charisma. He was not a man who went looking for trouble, but
if trouble came looking for him or someone he loved, I would always put my money on Joe, even
when he was 75 years old. Recently, in spite of his reputation, I sensed that Joe

Reflection Paper
Change is apart of everyday life, it is inevitable no matter what we do, but it is our choice as people
on if we want these changes to be negative or positive. A few years back, I made a promise to
myself that as I progress through life, I will always try my best to change for the better and fix
myself in areas where I fall behind, but not everyone makes the choice to be better. Some make a
choice that affects who they are in a negative way as well as hurting those closest to them, someone
I used to hang out made that decision and that caused me to change my perspective on him.
Ever since I was a young child, I enjoyed playing video games whether they be single player, online,
learning (Eh, not always so much), etc. I played online games with friends of mine and my older
brother, one of those being a guy I know named Chris. I have known Chris since I was around 11
and played online games with him and my brother all the time. His girlfriend Janelle, who later
became his wife, also joined us in playing these games. As time went on I became more and more
fond of Chris and Janelle and when I was 14 was when I visited them for the first time at their house
in Grand Rapids, and it was an absolute blast. At this time, it was more so that I was good friends

The Compact Cameras And My Pocket Sized Camera
As a present, my husband announced that I was to research the newest compact cameras so that I
could update my pocket sized camera. Previously I had a Kodak compact camera however the
features were lacking and it was starting to eat batteries, it was time for a new camera. It was
shocking to find that compact cameras have come a long way since the last time I purchase a
compact camera just five years ago. There were many cameras to choose from and most were under
$200.00. Here are my top eight picks for compact cameras for under $200.00. They are listed in no
order of quality or price. 1. Sony Cybershot W120: If you are looking for a colorful camera to
express yourself, this is the camera for you. It comes in the original silver, or one can choose the
same camera in black, pink, blue, or red. Choosing a color is nice but I found that some colors were
$50.00 or more, just to have a color on the outside case. Similar to the Olympus FE 300, it contains
a 15 MB internal memory; 4x Optical Zoom; 2.5"1 LCD Display; Lithium–Ion battery; and utilizes
a Memory Stick Duo for memory. The only downside of the camera is that it contains only 7.2
Megapixels, much under the Olympus camera. I have talked to a friend that owns this camera which
states that the camera is good for tons of lighting like outdoors but does not work well indoors with
lower, florescent lighting. It can be purchased at just about any store for under $200.00, especially at
Wal–Mart. 2. Canon Powershot SD1100

How Gaming Saved My Future
Hello, My name is Marcus Paige. This is my essay on how gaming saved my future. I discovered
gaming through watching television. One show in particular that caught my attention, was called
"Nick's Video Arcade". I would really get into that show because during that time I did not own my
a console of my own. So, this was the best I could do at the time. I would also pick up gaming
magazines from time to time. I could see what was new in the gaming scene and read about future
consoles coming out. I also became a huge fan of the readers section of these magazines, since you
could send in questions and have them answered. Another thing that got me into gaming was a
family friend. I can remember as a child I would always go along with my mother to visit one of her
good friends. While I was there, her son and I would always end up playing games the whole time I
was visiting. By getting into gaming, I feel that it has helped me out in many different ways. For
example, back in high school I wasn't the smartest student. I didn't apply myself much . You could
say I was stuck inside a spiral going down–wards. I would notice that things weren't going so well,
but I really didn't bother to try or turn myself around . During my downward spiral, I would find
myself constantly making bad decisions. I would go out and party when I knew I should be at home
studying,or doing my homework assignments. I was also hanging out with people who had no care

My Special Day
Today is my dad's birthday! I know that we are inviting some close friends over to celebrate his
special day, but no one is here at the moment. Because none of my friends have shown up, I begin to
play by myself. I know they are coming but I thought they would be here by now. I am lonely and I
wish someone was here to play with me. As people are filling the yard, I am not recognizing any of
the adults at the party. As of now, I am alone so I take my dog Goldie out to the deepest part of my
backyard.
5:00pm Friday the 6th
As I wonder when the cake will be served, I look back to my house. I continue playing with the
sticks that are in front of me. Since I am by myself, I try to stack the sticks on top of one another.
Bored, I walk through my yard to see if I recognize anyone. I find a huge stick on the ground, which
grabs my attention. I always love clearing out the backyard with sticks so I continue on my way. As
I pick up the stick, I swing it around like a sword. I find the perfect spot to start whacking at the
weeds, until I hear footsteps behind me. Who could that be? I thought Goldie was the only one with
me. I still hear the footsteps.

The Cow Taught Me How
The Cow Taught Me How
"Life is dangerous, that's what makes it interesting." – John Twelve Hawks
The best thing I ever did for myself was throw a stick at a cow. Not an overly extravagant
accomplishment, but I certainly learned a lot from it. Just a little over six years into the world, on a
day so hot I could practically taste burnt air, my father took my two sisters and me down to the barn.
It wasn't the most attractive place in the world, but to my eyes it was an adventure waiting to
happen. Amid mountainous hay bales and rolling seas of grass, I eagerly awaited the chance to seek
out every little thing in this field.
As soon as dad set us loose to explore, he began to cut a few trees down to make firewood. I sprung

My dad was out of reach; with his chainsaw in hand and the concentration he was using to cut down
trees for kindling, it was unlikely he'd hear me yelling for him. I tried anyway. "Dad!" I called,
cupping my hands around my mouth. I tried again and again, but I didn't succeed. Eventually, I
resorted to crossing my arms and huffing in annoyance. Now it was all up to me. It was almost like a
superhero set–up –– I, the favored protagonist, the cows the nefarious villains, and my sisters the
damsels in distress. My feet bounded forward in a blaze of six year old glory. The glitzy rainbows
on my tennis shoes shone in the sun, my ponytail whipped my face, and my body moved onwards;
ready for action. With careful precision I scanned the ground, looking for some sort of weapon.
Since there isn't much of an arsenal in a cow field, I sought out a stick. And what a wonderful stick
it was! The pair of hands that usually picked up toys and Cheerios snatched the small branch.
Putting my entire body into motion, I let my weapon fly. My body's momentum sent it in a direct
line; hurtling towards the target. My throw was decently aimed, and the stick struck home on an
unfortunate cow's behind. Time crawled to a stop and the branch seemed to hang in the air for a
moment before clattering to the ground. One beat of silence. Two. Suddenly, the beast turned its
head, black eyes seemingly pinning me in place. I probably would've started crying and begging for
mercy had I not

My Father And Brother
It was late fall in 2009 when I quietly sat on the plane looking after my youngest brother who was
restlessly sitting besides me. We were heading back to my hometown, Kotzebue, Alaska, for a
reason I did not know about. Sitting without any worry at all, I over heard my mom quietly speaking
to a friend in the aisle in front of us. My mom gravely explained to her that my father and brother
are lost in a bitterly cold and extremely windy snowstorm outside of town. On that frigid October
night, our hearts were colder than ever before. I reflected on the horrible, life–changing situation as I
looked out the airplane window into the dark sky. It's like my eyes were bleeding fear that my heart
was feeling, what would I do without my father and brother around? We finally landed in Kotzebue
where our family came to greet us with warm hugs. They had so much food and desserts made for
when we got to my Aunty's house. Every one we knew stopped by the house to check on us and tell
us it was going to be okay. At this time, Search and Rescue were already looking for my father and
brother outside the town. They searched and searched for them and could not find them. My dad
said they went caribou hunting and saw a big herd of caribou that they planned on distracting. So
my dad and brother split up with my uncle to go and distract the caribou. In an instant, a foggy snow
storm rolled through and they could not see town at all. My dad was driving the snow machine in

The Power Of Desire In A & P By John Updike
Within the story "A&P" by John Updike, the main character Sammy is portrayed as a shy optimistic
young teenager working at a grocery store. But a sudden life changing event happens and Sammy
takes charge just as anyone else would. Three pretty young girls walk into the grocery store, in only
bathing suits, just as any guy would feel the urge to stare or even talk to them, he takes action by
sticking up for them as they are getting thrown out of the store resulting in him quitting his job. This
action we see would be the power of desire which is the theme throughout this story. In society
today we tend to see lots of people especially teens afraid to stick up for what they believe in. With
the power of desire, it builds up confidence, shows maturity in the coming of ages, and it even
proves you can do what you believe in. If everyone had this much confidence like Sammy, our
world may be a stronger place. Being confident is very essential in life and it is something many
people tend to lack for many reasons. Some could be self–conscious in physical appearance or even
believe they are not good enough. This strong confidence is strongly shown in the story based on the
girl's appearances. For example, "The sheep pushing their carts down the aisle – the girls were
walking against the usual traffic (not that we have one–way signs or anything) – were pretty
hilarious. You could see them, when Queenie's white shoulders dawned on them, kind of jerk, or

Personal Reflection Of Personal Ethics In The Classroom
I am one of the numerous amount of students enrolled in your class and most likely, you have no
idea who I am. I am hopeful that this letter will apprise you about my personality, work ethic, and
other characteristics.
When I was younger, I enjoyed being constantly active; whether that be hanging off the couch while
watching T.V. or running around my house yelling incoherent phrases to drive my mother insane, I
did it all. One day, I stumbled upon a video of a girl teaching the viewer how to do a skill named the
back handspring (a skill where you push off from an upright standing position into vertical back
onto your feet to complete a full rotation). In awe, it inspired me to attempt it myself, until I realized
it took a lot more to flip backwards and expect to land on your hands without falling onto your face.
I can recall myself watching a plethora of these varieties of videos in where people demonstrated
how to do different certain skills. I would be fascinated by the idea that you can maneuver your
body to do tricks that most people would not dare to attempt. Not long after that, I begged to try out
and, to my amazement, ended up making it into what would become my gymnastics team.
When I first began, I was not prepared for the amount of work that was required of the individual,
both physically and mentally. I remember the first practice I attended was one of my most
exhausting. Being a newcomer to such an intense sport, it allowed many, many mistakes. The quote

Essay on Barn Burning
Use of Blood in "Barn Burning"
"Barn Burning" is about the struggle of a boy to do what is right during the Post Civil War era. The
main character, Sartoris Snopes, is a poor son of a migrant tenant farmer. In the opening scene he is
being asked by a circuit judge about the burning of a farmer's barn by his father. The boy does not
tell on his father and is not forced to do so, but he thinks that he would have done so had he been
asked. The father, Abner Snopes, served in the Civil War for both sides and has difficulty venting his
anger. Usually he does so through the burning of other people's barns when they wrong him. The

Mine and hisn both! He's my father"(481). Here this shows that the father has done this before and
the boy is used to dealing with it.
The use of blood is also utilized when the father explains that the family must stick together.
Following the courthouse scene the boy and his father talk about the incident and Abner states, "You
got to learn to stick to your own blood or you ain't going to have any blood to stick to you"(484). In
saying this, it is almost as if he is trying to convince the boy to lie for his own blood.
The boy despises his father for all the horrible things he has done to people in the past, yet he still
sticks up for him. After Abner has deliberately destroyed Major DeSpain's expensive imported rug
his son states, "You done the best you could", "If he wanted hit done different why didn't he wait
and tell you how?"(488). Thus providing evidence that the boy still has some respect for his "blood",
and though he is against his father's actions he still supports them because he is family.
Faulkner's use of blood contributes to the theme of loyalty to the family in several ways. Throughout
the short story there are many references to loyalty and sticking to your own blood. "Barn Burning"
is a very in–depth short story and had to be read carefully in order to obtain the full meaning and

Case Analysis
Case brief and overview:
Sher–Wood (formerly Sherwood–Drolet) has been a well–known Canadian hockey equipment
manufacturer since 1949 (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 23), predominantly specialising in wooden
sticks for players from the National Hockey League down to players at the junior level. Sher–Wood
also produces composite sticks, albeit at a much lower volume.
Whilst hockey stick production has traditionally been based in North America, over the last decade
there has been a significant shift towards global sourcing in the industry (Zhang & Beamish, 2011,
p.21). This has been driven by a desire to access low–cost factors of production, secure cheaper
material resources, and ultimately gain a competitive advantage.
Sher–Wood's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In comparison, Sher–Wood offers specific products for a niche market. Despite this, Sher–Wood
offers 27 models of player and goalie sticks – a considerably large amount for a company with a
global market share of approximately 2% (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 20).
Secondly, composite sticks have been the dominant stick used among NHL players over the past
decade (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p.18), and as such have grown rapidly in popularity amongst
children and amateur players (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p.19). Despite the fact that Sher–Wood
anticipates the composite stick business to grow in volume and profitability, there is a sufficient
imbalance between market demand and Sher–Wood's product output, since wooden sticks still
account for approximately half of their hockey stick models. (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 24)
Further to this, Sher–Wood's brand image and reputation are diminishing. This was affected by the
loss of NHL star Jason Spezza to rival Reebok in 2008 in objection to the company's outsourcing to
China (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 23). Currently only 2.3% of NHL players use Sherwood sticks
(Exhibit 1, Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 20). This is a concern for Sher–Wood, especially since
"hockey sticks endorsed by professional hockey players enjoyed a strong position in the hocket stick
market." (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 19) Related to this issue is the fact that the market is showing
signs of maturity, and

The second part is where the fun part actually starts, you're going to add one or two heaping
spoonfuls of regular white frosting to the crumbled up cake you have.
Keep adding frosting until you get the consistency pretty doughy, but still firm enough to handle.
After kneeding the dough thoroughly you're going to want to roll the dough out inch size balls.
A normal box of cake mix should make about 20 cake pops.
After all the balls are rolled out, they should go in the fridge or freezer for about a half an hour to
help them set. After those agonizing thirty minutes are up, you're able to take the cake pops out of
the refrigerator or freezer, and then melt some almond bark.
After dipping the stick in the almond bark, you're going to want to stick it about halfway through the
now official "cake pop".
The chocolate on the stick is to help the stick stay sturdy while you actually eat the sweet treat.
When you've finished putting the sticks into each of the cake balls, you should put them back into
the refrigerator in order to help the chocolate solidify.
Transition:
The last part we're going to focus on is probably the most simple. Decorating the cake pop.
Using the previously melted almond bark, you can simply dip the cake pop in and spread a thin
layer of chocolate all around the pop.
While the chocolate is still wet, feel free to decorate in any way you'd like. For today I just used
simple sprinkles but there

Reflection Of A Journey To The Lake Of The Woods
The other day I was making a gratitude list. I do this periodically after I'm reminded by someone to
make it a daily practice. I can attest that as it makes me more aware of what people, birthright and
luck brings to one's life. My gratitude list includes living, breathing things, like my dogs and my
friends, and now for the last decade, includes my father and our annual visit to our summer cabin in
Northern Minnesota.
My father just pushed past ninety–three in March of this year. I am very grateful to have developed
a relationship with him that is more like a friendship and camaraderie. He makes for great company
in a place with very little noise. Our relationship transformed after my mother passed and now our
vacation week on Lake of the Woods involves us to create conversation and shared experiences.
Our vacation retreat is on a small island that now has several walking paths, the necessary boat dock
and a very modest cabin. As my mother used to say, "It's a cabin in the sticks". The island's
inhabitance began in the 1920's by my father's father. It's both humble and grand. More than once
will I hear the word" Paradise" as my father voices his awe at the rugged beauty that surrounds us on
all sides. You can only describe these 14, 500 islands that dot Lake of the Woods as 'timeless'.
Regardless of modernization, the vista is an enduring expanse of green cedar and white pine trees
whose gnarly roots hang on for dear life to the granite. It's a wonder

Moth And Bees: A Narrative Fiction
Moth is young, barely two weeks old, so she is of course curious about everything. Look at all the
colors here, she constantly thought as she whisked herself around the garden. The world she lived in
was of course radiant, full of wonderful things and a huge spectrum of color. Take for instance,
flowers, the epitome of beauty. Pretty to look at, they come in various shades, and are very sweet–
with the nectar on the inside. Best choice of food ever, she had thought the moment she had first
drank it in, sipping up all of the nectar in a peony. She had been drawn to it earlier from the
mouthwatering scent the flower had emitted. Still remembering the delicious taste, Moth happily
fluttered about on her fragile white wings. It was evening, growing ... Show more content on

Oh, but I don't think you can see them right now... or actually see it from here at all," Moth replied
as she glanced at the window. It was true, there was no good vantage point from here, as the stick
wasn't long enough to look out past the window. "Can you tell me about outside?!" Flame asked
enthusiastically. "I've never been there. I can't move from my candle, you see." Flame points down
as if to make her point while wistfully saying the last sentence. "Only if you tell me what some of
the stuff in this room is," replied Moth, but she settled herself to easily drift on the hot air rising up
from Flame, and began to talk about everything she knew. For the next couple of weeks, Moth
would visit Flame at the exact same time every day, when the sun would be starting to set and the
Human had changed Flame's candle. She would patiently wait outside the window and only come in
after the Human had left, noticing as the Human would walk, that he was beginning to limp and was
more hunched over than before– growing older with every meeting. However, Moth would quickly
be too excited to fill in Flame about her day, telling her stories and adventures, and would forget to
be worried about the

Grit Essay
The Power Of Grit I chose the Ted Talk called Grit and perseverance. In this video Angela Lee
Duckworth argues that the key to success is grit, a characteristic she defines as "passion and
perseverance for very long–term goals"(Angela Duckworth). she talks about how having
perseverance can motivate and change the outcome of your life and career. You don't have to be
perfect physically or have a High IQ, all you need is Grit and perseverance. Life can be very
difficult at times it will slam you on the ground roll you in the dirt and kick you in the ribs all at
once. Being able to get back up is the reason people can be successful. Having perseverance and
show great ethics and starting at the bottom being poorer than dirt will give you ... Show more

The question she asked and wanted to find out is who will succeed and why. Every study they did
she would notice that it's not the highest IQ who is successful but its who has the most grit and
perseverance. Grit is sticking to your long–term goals despite all the noise around you. The fact that
not everyone in your life will support you in reaching your goals is a harsh reality. It's hard to
understand that even some of your best friends and close family could actually be holding you back
but once you cut that tie and push yourself you can be so much more successful. Personally I think
the most successful people in life are the ones that can set A goal and not let anyone change their
mind or run them a stray from their goal. This Ted Talk can help people even in their day to day life,
if someone can set small goals throughout their day and make sure they stick to them. At times it's
really hard to stick to goals especially long term. However if you can it will help you succeed in
everyday life and long term like finishing college. College can be a great place for a study to happen
but it can also be very bad, because there is so much diversity but generally unmotivated people
don't even go to college but if they do they can't stick it out because they have no perseverance. As
soon as something hard comes along they quite and then try to protest it. Having Goals however can
be very overwhelming. Many people set long term goals and work toward them

The Paradox In Mary Oliver's Crossing The Swamp
In Mary Oliver's "Crossing the Swamp", the speaker compares a swamp to the struggles and
hardships in life that fight against her. The speaker repeatedly contrasts herself to the swamp to
emphasize the vastness of the swamp, conveying how the speaker understands the hardships that
come with life. The speaker describes the swamp as a "wet thick cosmos [...] ーthe nugget". The
paradox compares the vast "cosmos" with a small golden "nugget," contrasting how the experience
the speaker is going through may be on a small scale such as the "nugget", but may be large and vast
like a "cosmos". The nugget is described with caesuras, and the caesuras are repeated five times
throughout the poem. They act as an interruption in the poem, conveying that the speaker cannot
smoothly walk through the swamp and the journey is labor–intensive. As the speaker goes through
the swamp, she experiences "branching vines, the dark burred faintly belching bogs". The
alliteration of the hard "b" sound emphasizes how the speaker is fighting against the struggles in the
swamp to get through. The struggles are emphasized as she goes through "pathless, seamless,
peerless mud". The scarcity of the mud is described with the repeated use of "less" and the speaker
indicates how the mud is moveless and still. The image is further expanded with the comparison to
life, and how life requires individuals to make their own path through their life and that the universe
does not simply create paths for each individual. She then feels her "bones knock together at the
pale joints" as she tries to grasp "for foothold, fingerhold, mindhold over" the mud. The descriptions
increase her sense of powerlessness in the vast cosmos she is in. Her mindset shifts as she struggles
over "such slick crossings, deep hipholes, hummocks that sink silently into the black, slack
earthsoup". The repeated sibilants emphasizes how she is slowly sinking into the mud. However, she
is not resisting but is accepting the mud and the fact that she has no control over it. The acceptance
contrasts her earlier struggles with the "belching bogs" that she fought against. Mud symbolizing
life's struggles itself, the speaker learns to accept the challenges ahead of her. She shifts to an

The Benefits Of Hiking And Trekking
Why should you use hiking poles? Is the primary question that you ask yourself, especially when
you are a beginner in hiking. Before you get the right answer for this question you need to consider
two things and that is Safety and Comfort. Hiking poles are just balancing sticks which help you
maintain good balance that is closely related to your overall safety and comfort. When you use two
poles you move as you have four legs which allow you better comfort and safety. Hiking experts say
that using hiking poles makes you switch to a 4x4 driving mode, by using your two legs and two
hands.
As far as safety is concerned, a pair of hiking poles helps you prevent frequent fall downs on
uncertain tracks, avoiding aches in ankle or knee or even back; ... Show more content on

will yourself carry these sticks with you by seeing their countless benefits.
Thousands of people who have already used (or still using!) hiking poles for years could not be
wrong and this is the reason that poles are considered the traditional way to move on uncertain
tracks while maintaining good stability. Although, hiking poles have countless benefits but below
given are some significant benefits which enforce us to use them every time we go on hiking and
trekking:
Safety– Safety is the main reason of using hiking poles. Hiking poles allow your extra pair of legs to
maintain stability on uncertain trails and when crossing fast streams or difficult terrains. Without
having hiking poles you may fall down that may end up in injuries and accidents, and if you don't
fall even then ache in knees or ankles is a common mishappening you may face. When you have
hiking poles with you, they keep you safe by preventing fall downs, bad steps which may cause of
sprained ankle or knee.
Indeed, safety and convenience are the main reasons for using these hiking and trekking poles. Let's

Battle Of Horseshoe Bend Strengths And Weaknesses

  • 1. Battle Of Horseshoe Bend Strengths And Weaknesses The Battle of Horseshoe Bend illustrated some important lessons that are as applicable to today's military operational environments as they were back then These lessons are timeless. Studying this battle can help leaders and Commanders identify strengths and weakness that lead to mission success and enemy defeat. General Andrew Jackson had engaged the enemy Creek Indians in previous battles. He was able to learn valuable lessons and make adjustments to ensure that the Battle of Horseshoe Bend achieved his operational objectives and had the desired end state for mission success. Armies cannot sustain or conduct combat operations without effective logistical supply lines. Lack of supplies lead to poor morale and capitulation of forces. Jackson led several campaigns against the Creek Indians prior to the Battle of Horseshoe Bend but could not accomplish his operational objectives due to a lack of supplies and long supply lines. In the winter of 1814, Jackson suffered great losses when he led an Army of inexperienced, undisciplined and under supplied forces to fight the Red Sticks at Emuckfau and Enotochopco. He barely escaped with his life and was forced to retreat to Fort Strother. After winter, in March of 1814, Jackson left Fort Strother with the intent to extend supply lines by building a new fort which came to be known as Fort Williams. This fort was closer to Horseshoe bend and General Jackson was determined to achieve victory and defeat the Red Sticks at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. My Bubble Research Paper In the past, I was not the most outgoing of people. I never spoke over others, and I only opened my mouth when asked. I always let others walk over me because I feared confrontation. I lived within my own bubble of safety. As long as I stayed within the boundaries of everything and away from everyone, I convinced myself that this was the most efficient way to live. No problems with anyone else, and no problems within my life. Although the life I lived was very safe, it was also very colorless. This mindset of safety clouded over me and influenced almost all of my choices. I never seemed to muster up the courage to talk to new people and stayed within my circle of friends. I never branched out, I never tried out for sports, or the school musical or anything new because I feared the results would not turn out in my favor. Even food wise, I did not try new things. Growing up in a Filipino household, I was offered a plethora of diverse cultural foods; I however, had a very strict diet of apple slices and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. This tied to my mindset of staying within my safety bubble. Trying new things was against my entire being, as if I would malfunction like a robot without oil. ... All foods that existed within my safety universe had unknowingly all slipped away from me at once. My ravenous self rejoiced when I saw a white takeout bag in her hands. I pounced over to her, only for myself to discover my only hope for sustenance was, mozzarella sticks. This began an internal battle within myself on whether I should allow myself to starve or try something new, which was far beyond any beliefs that existed for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Harp Research Paper The Harp "There is a legend passed down from generation to generation of a great harp. This harp is no ordinary harp, it is said to be magical. The harp is also said to grant anyone's wish. Legend has it that the harp is somewhere here in the Rocky Mountains," Earle told his son Xavier. Xavier's face was lit with a spark of curiosity and excitement. His father had told him this 3 years ago, when he was only 11. Now his father is ill. Earle can't afford a doctor so Xavier decided to hunt for the harp. Xavier did not set out on his journey unprepared and alone, though. Xavier brought along his dog named Buddy, a pocket knife, water, plenty of food, and last of all, a map of the area. At the first light of dawn, Xavier and Buddy headed off ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Ouch!" Xavier yelped out in pain as he tried to stand back up. He realized that he must have twisted his ankle. He sat down for a moment searching around for something to use as a sort of crutch. He saw a big stick and decided to use that. He stood up and got to work on the big stick. "This stick will be too big for me to use" he thought to himself. "Oh!" he exclaimed, suddenly having thought of an idea. He pulled out his pocket knife and started whittling away at the stick until he had cut a good chunk of it off. He picked up the stick using it as a support and continued walking towards the sound. He came across a parting area between the trees and walked through. Across the raging river, he saw the magic harp of the legend. "So it's true, it really is true.", he whispered to himself. Then he realized the raging river that stands between him and the harp, "How am I going to cross that? Huh." He saw more sticks across the way and started to put them together to look like a raft. He then went to a tree nearby to cut a vine and tied the raft together. He pushed the raft onto the shore. Xavier and Buddy both got on the raft and with the walking stick as a paddle, they took off into the river. The raging river shook the raft so hard and Xavier managed to hold on. Buddy was not as lucky, however. Buddy fell into the river and got carried off by the strong current. Xavier screamed and cried for Buddy but he could not help his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A gruff, high voice asks another "since he lost, will we kill im?" "Maybe, but the boss is the one who will decide, Jerry" a scratchy voice answers in return. A large face with a bulbous nose peers at you. You whimper, trying to signal the pain you are in. The man just laughs, and says "Sorry, you little scamp, if the boss doesn't kill ye, ye going to da pound. A man with a tall frame enters the room, his voice is like sandpaper on rough stone. In the article, it said the people make the dogs bite on to the equipment and hang off it to strengthen their bite before the illegal fight. There have been to many reports in the media of young children being seriously injured by dogs so to train a fighting dog in a playground and to condition it to behave violently around play equipment which is used by toddlers is one of the most despicable things that I have heard in a long time." said Chris Bond, the council member for the Enfield council in England. So I started walking back to camp when I got there I took one of my shoelaces and tied it to the stick the shoelace was nice and sturdy so I knew this was going to be a good bow. So the next day I went out to the woods again and started looking for arrows. I found a few good sticks and took them back to camp and started sharpening them. I put a little crease in the end of the arrow and then put in the quiver then I shot it and surprisingly it went pretty far probably a good 20 feet. His mom in her calm soothing voice asks, "Are you excited for your first day of school?" Ronnie sees in his mother's eyes that she herself was excited for him to start middle school. Ronnie replies, "Not really." He was, however, excited to see his friends that he hasn't seen since summer break. Ronnie gets up and dresses up in the best outfit he could find to impress his friends. Lord of the Flies, by Nobel–Prize winning English author William Golding, describes the journey of a group of young boys who wake up stranded on an deserted island and describes how they try to survive, all while trying to get rescued. The struggles of survival demonstrate the savagery and transformation of some boys adapting to the environment on the island. Many of the boys become wild animals although there are three in particular who show their inner beast the most, Jack, Roger and the Lord of the Flies himself. Jack becomes a dominant dictator and overpowers the others (how? will you explain this?). As the novel progresses, the dark side of humanity takes over Jack and his thoughts of survival. Firstly, Jack declares that anyone holding the conch may have the right to speak in front of the group. We actually see Jack contributing to the whole group and giving suggestions as to how the boys may actually survive. "'Ralph, I'll split up the choir–my hunters, that is –into groups, and we'll be responsible for keeping the fire going." I tried twisting out of the bush but it was no use. The branches around me had engulfed me, leaving me to dry out in the scorching sunlight. Several months being stuck in the golden meadows under a suffocating sky of perfect blue was smothering me. The curse made me weak, I lost consciousness many times and having only one leg made from wood was useless. I closed my heavy eyelids and waited for another indistinguishable day to pass by. The sound of light footsteps approaching; ploughing through the rustling leaves; awoke me. I opened my eyes to find two cold hands tugging at the bottom of me. I was startled when they managed to yank me free. I will also give some tips and tricks I've learned over the years. Frist off to build a fire I need to gather my materials. These materials are as follows: a lighter, rocks, a place to build the fire, some wood of all different sizes, a pocketknife, and about two handfuls of a tinder. So now you must be wondering what tinder is? Well it's simple; tinder is a material that you light to start a fire. Tinder is also considered to be stage one in the fire building process. Which means it's the first material in the fire to burn, and it needs to light the next level. Materials that can be used as tinder is newspaper, dryer lint, hay, and cardboard. You also may be wondering why a pocketknife. Well it's so that if I need to cut something I have a tool for the job. So after I gather up a lighter, pocketknife, and about two handfuls of tinder. Originating in North America, lacrosse was played by the Native Americans for a variety of reasons. Known as "The Creators Game", Lacrosse was used as a substitute for war and in spiritual practices as well. Lacrosse began with simple and elegant sticks, but with the use of technology has being adopted lacrosse now uses pads such as helmets and gloves as well as sticks that are made from metal. Throughout the Native Americans history the game was originally played by men and with the same rules, in the current era this has all changed. All Quiet On The Western Front Comradeship Analysis "We all share the same fear and the same life;we are nearer than lovers, in a simpler, a harder way;I could bury my face in them, in these voices, these words that have saved me and will stand by me". Comradeship is vital in war, because it keeps soldiers human. The theme of comradeship in All Quiet on the Western Front is embraced when the soldiers rescue each other during battle, stick together and not become separated, and keep each other's spirits up in the darkest of days. Soldiers rescuing each other during battle shows comradeship. While fighting on the front line, Paul becomes separated from his comrades and cannot search for them for fear of being shot down. Its most recent former owner, Mark Presley of Berwick, NS, sold it to the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec in January of 2015 for $300,000. Presley happened upon the stick during the year 2000 as it hung on the wall of a North Sydney barber shop. The building's proprietor at the time, George Ferneyhiugh, who has since retired from the haircutting trade, had it hanging there since the early 1980s. The relic's original owner was William Moffatt of North Sydney's Pottle Lake area and it is referred to as the "Moffatt Stick." Carved into the stick's blade are the initials, "WM." In 2008 Presley purchased the stick from Ferneyhiugh for a sum of $1,000 and then proceeded to find out the relic's long history. He took the stick to Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB where experts in dendrochronology –– the science of dating events through the study of growth rings in trees –– performed tests. This is a 1996 film, Adam Sandler, who portrays Happy Gilmore faces few obstacles when learning how to play golf. The reason why he joins a golf tournament was that he needed the money to save his grandmother's house. His grandmother has not pay taxes for past 10 years so she owed $270,00 otherwise her home would be lost. Happy Gilmore is a naïve and absurd character that struggles with anger issues but later learns how to deal with it through dumb childish humor. Throughout the golf tournament, he has a nemesis, Shooter Mcgavin, who is arrogant that gets jealous at Happy Gilmore for his hidden talent at golf. • 45. Reflection Paper Change is apart of everyday life, it is inevitable no matter what we do, but it is our choice as people on if we want these changes to be negative or positive. A few years back, I made a promise to myself that as I progress through life, I will always try my best to change for the better and fix myself in areas where I fall behind, but not everyone makes the choice to be better. Some make a choice that affects who they are in a negative way as well as hurting those closest to them, someone I used to hang out made that decision and that caused me to change my perspective on him. Ever since I was a young child, I enjoyed playing video games whether they be single player, online, learning (Eh, not always so much), etc. I played online games with friends of mine and my older brother, one of those being a guy I know named Chris. I have known Chris since I was around 11 and played online games with him and my brother all the time. His girlfriend Janelle, who later became his wife, also joined us in playing these games. As time went on I became more and more fond of Chris and Janelle and when I was 14 was when I visited them for the first time at their house in Grand Rapids, and it was an absolute blast. At this time, it was more so that I was good friends with them and my brother Christian, was off at college and didn't talk to these guys much. Skip ahead a little under a year to March of 2016, I had been at their house and Chris told me to check this game out that he had, called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Compact Cameras And My Pocket Sized Camera As a present, my husband announced that I was to research the newest compact cameras so that I could update my pocket sized camera. Previously I had a Kodak compact camera however the features were lacking and it was starting to eat batteries, it was time for a new camera. It was shocking to find that compact cameras have come a long way since the last time I purchase a compact camera just five years ago. There were many cameras to choose from and most were under $200.00. Here are my top eight picks for compact cameras for under $200.00. They are listed in no order of quality or price. 1. Sony Cybershot W120: If you are looking for a colorful camera to express yourself, this is the camera for you. It comes in the original silver, or one can choose the same camera in black, pink, blue, or red. Choosing a color is nice but I found that some colors were $50.00 or more, just to have a color on the outside case. Similar to the Olympus FE 300, it contains a 15 MB internal memory; 4x Optical Zoom; 2.5"1 LCD Display; Lithium–Ion battery; and utilizes a Memory Stick Duo for memory. The only downside of the camera is that it contains only 7.2 Megapixels, much under the Olympus camera. I have talked to a friend that owns this camera which states that the camera is good for tons of lighting like outdoors but does not work well indoors with lower, florescent lighting. It can be purchased at just about any store for under $200.00, especially at Wal–Mart. 2. Canon Powershot SD1100 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. How Gaming Saved My Future Hello, My name is Marcus Paige. This is my essay on how gaming saved my future. I discovered gaming through watching television. One show in particular that caught my attention, was called "Nick's Video Arcade". I would really get into that show because during that time I did not own my a console of my own. So, this was the best I could do at the time. I would also pick up gaming magazines from time to time. I could see what was new in the gaming scene and read about future consoles coming out. I also became a huge fan of the readers section of these magazines, since you could send in questions and have them answered. Another thing that got me into gaming was a family friend. I can remember as a child I would always go along with my mother to visit one of her good friends. While I was there, her son and I would always end up playing games the whole time I was visiting. By getting into gaming, I feel that it has helped me out in many different ways. For example, back in high school I wasn't the smartest student. I didn't apply myself much . You could say I was stuck inside a spiral going down–wards. I would notice that things weren't going so well, but I really didn't bother to try or turn myself around . During my downward spiral, I would find myself constantly making bad decisions. I would go out and party when I knew I should be at home studying,or doing my homework assignments. I was also hanging out with people who had no care about my academic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. My Special Day Today is my dad's birthday! I know that we are inviting some close friends over to celebrate his special day, but no one is here at the moment. Because none of my friends have shown up, I begin to play by myself. I know they are coming but I thought they would be here by now. I am lonely and I wish someone was here to play with me. As people are filling the yard, I am not recognizing any of the adults at the party. As of now, I am alone so I take my dog Goldie out to the deepest part of my backyard. 5:00pm Friday the 6th As I wonder when the cake will be served, I look back to my house. I continue playing with the sticks that are in front of me. Since I am by myself, I try to stack the sticks on top of one another. Bored, I walk through my yard to see if I recognize anyone. I find a huge stick on the ground, which grabs my attention. I always love clearing out the backyard with sticks so I continue on my way. As I pick up the stick, I swing it around like a sword. I find the perfect spot to start whacking at the weeds, until I hear footsteps behind me. Who could that be? I thought Goldie was the only one with me. I still hear the footsteps. 9:00 pm Friday the 6th Walking through my back yard, I find the boy who will change my life. I do not recognize this boy, which means my parents must know his parents. As I look at him, I see that his cloths are smudged with dirt, and his hair is in standing at a point. He is tall and big for someone who is only a few years older than ... • 55. The Cow Taught Me How The Cow Taught Me How "Life is dangerous, that's what makes it interesting." – John Twelve Hawks The best thing I ever did for myself was throw a stick at a cow. Not an overly extravagant accomplishment, but I certainly learned a lot from it. Just a little over six years into the world, on a day so hot I could practically taste burnt air, my father took my two sisters and me down to the barn. It wasn't the most attractive place in the world, but to my eyes it was an adventure waiting to happen. Amid mountainous hay bales and rolling seas of grass, I eagerly awaited the chance to seek out every little thing in this field. As soon as dad set us loose to explore, he began to cut a few trees down to make firewood. I sprung into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My dad was out of reach; with his chainsaw in hand and the concentration he was using to cut down trees for kindling, it was unlikely he'd hear me yelling for him. I tried anyway. "Dad!" I called, cupping my hands around my mouth. I tried again and again, but I didn't succeed. Eventually, I resorted to crossing my arms and huffing in annoyance. Now it was all up to me. It was almost like a superhero set–up –– I, the favored protagonist, the cows the nefarious villains, and my sisters the damsels in distress. My feet bounded forward in a blaze of six year old glory. The glitzy rainbows on my tennis shoes shone in the sun, my ponytail whipped my face, and my body moved onwards; ready for action. With careful precision I scanned the ground, looking for some sort of weapon. Since there isn't much of an arsenal in a cow field, I sought out a stick. And what a wonderful stick it was! The pair of hands that usually picked up toys and Cheerios snatched the small branch. Putting my entire body into motion, I let my weapon fly. My body's momentum sent it in a direct line; hurtling towards the target. My throw was decently aimed, and the stick struck home on an unfortunate cow's behind. Time crawled to a stop and the branch seemed to hang in the air for a moment before clattering to the ground. One beat of silence. Two. Suddenly, the beast turned its head, black eyes seemingly pinning me in place. I probably would've started crying and begging for mercy had I not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We were heading back to my hometown, Kotzebue, Alaska, for a reason I did not know about. Sitting without any worry at all, I over heard my mom quietly speaking to a friend in the aisle in front of us. My mom gravely explained to her that my father and brother are lost in a bitterly cold and extremely windy snowstorm outside of town. On that frigid October night, our hearts were colder than ever before. I reflected on the horrible, life–changing situation as I looked out the airplane window into the dark sky. It's like my eyes were bleeding fear that my heart was feeling, what would I do without my father and brother around? We finally landed in Kotzebue where our family came to greet us with warm hugs. They had so much food and desserts made for when we got to my Aunty's house. Every one we knew stopped by the house to check on us and tell us it was going to be okay. At this time, Search and Rescue were already looking for my father and brother outside the town. They searched and searched for them and could not find them. My dad said they went caribou hunting and saw a big herd of caribou that they planned on distracting. So my dad and brother split up with my uncle to go and distract the caribou. • 59. The Power Of Desire In A & P By John Updike Within the story "A&P" by John Updike, the main character Sammy is portrayed as a shy optimistic young teenager working at a grocery store. But a sudden life changing event happens and Sammy takes charge just as anyone else would. Three pretty young girls walk into the grocery store, in only bathing suits, just as any guy would feel the urge to stare or even talk to them, he takes action by sticking up for them as they are getting thrown out of the store resulting in him quitting his job. This action we see would be the power of desire which is the theme throughout this story. In society today we tend to see lots of people especially teens afraid to stick up for what they believe in. With the power of desire, it builds up confidence, shows maturity in the coming of ages, and it even proves you can do what you believe in. If everyone had this much confidence like Sammy, our world may be a stronger place. Being confident is very essential in life and it is something many people tend to lack for many reasons. Some could be self–conscious in physical appearance or even believe they are not good enough. This strong confidence is strongly shown in the story based on the girl's appearances. For example, "The sheep pushing their carts down the aisle – the girls were walking against the usual traffic (not that we have one–way signs or anything) – were pretty hilarious. You could see them, when Queenie's white shoulders dawned on them, kind of jerk, or hop, or hiccup, but their eyes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am hopeful that this letter will apprise you about my personality, work ethic, and other characteristics. When I was younger, I enjoyed being constantly active; whether that be hanging off the couch while watching T.V. or running around my house yelling incoherent phrases to drive my mother insane, I did it all. One day, I stumbled upon a video of a girl teaching the viewer how to do a skill named the back handspring (a skill where you push off from an upright standing position into vertical back onto your feet to complete a full rotation). In awe, it inspired me to attempt it myself, until I realized it took a lot more to flip backwards and expect to land on your hands without falling onto your face. I can recall myself watching a plethora of these varieties of videos in where people demonstrated how to do different certain skills. I would be fascinated by the idea that you can maneuver your body to do tricks that most people would not dare to attempt. Not long after that, I begged to try out and, to my amazement, ended up making it into what would become my gymnastics team. When I first began, I was not prepared for the amount of work that was required of the individual, both physically and mentally. I remember the first practice I attended was one of my most exhausting. Being a newcomer to such an intense sport, it allowed many, many mistakes. The quote said ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Essay on Barn Burning Use of Blood in "Barn Burning" "Barn Burning" is about the struggle of a boy to do what is right during the Post Civil War era. The main character, Sartoris Snopes, is a poor son of a migrant tenant farmer. In the opening scene he is being asked by a circuit judge about the burning of a farmer's barn by his father. The boy does not tell on his father and is not forced to do so, but he thinks that he would have done so had he been asked. The father, Abner Snopes, served in the Civil War for both sides and has difficulty venting his anger. Usually he does so through the burning of other people's barns when they wrong him. Here this shows that the father has done this before and the boy is used to dealing with it. The use of blood is also utilized when the father explains that the family must stick together. Following the courthouse scene the boy and his father talk about the incident and Abner states, "You got to learn to stick to your own blood or you ain't going to have any blood to stick to you"(484). In saying this, it is almost as if he is trying to convince the boy to lie for his own blood. The boy despises his father for all the horrible things he has done to people in the past, yet he still sticks up for him. After Abner has deliberately destroyed Major DeSpain's expensive imported rug his son states, "You done the best you could", "If he wanted hit done different why didn't he wait and tell you how?"(488). Thus providing evidence that the boy still has some respect for his "blood", and though he is against his father's actions he still supports them because he is family. Faulkner's use of blood contributes to the theme of loyalty to the family in several ways. Throughout the short story there are many references to loyalty and sticking to your own blood. • 67. Case Analysis Case brief and overview: Sher–Wood (formerly Sherwood–Drolet) has been a well–known Canadian hockey equipment manufacturer since 1949 (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 23), predominantly specialising in wooden sticks for players from the National Hockey League down to players at the junior level. Sher–Wood also produces composite sticks, albeit at a much lower volume. Whilst hockey stick production has traditionally been based in North America, over the last decade there has been a significant shift towards global sourcing in the industry (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p.21). This has been driven by a desire to access low–cost factors of production, secure cheaper material resources, and ultimately gain a competitive advantage. Sher–Wood's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In comparison, Sher–Wood offers specific products for a niche market. Despite this, Sher–Wood offers 27 models of player and goalie sticks – a considerably large amount for a company with a global market share of approximately 2% (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 20). Secondly, composite sticks have been the dominant stick used among NHL players over the past decade (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p.18), and as such have grown rapidly in popularity amongst children and amateur players (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p.19). Despite the fact that Sher–Wood anticipates the composite stick business to grow in volume and profitability, there is a sufficient imbalance between market demand and Sher–Wood's product output, since wooden sticks still account for approximately half of their hockey stick models. (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 24) Further to this, Sher–Wood's brand image and reputation are diminishing. This was affected by the loss of NHL star Jason Spezza to rival Reebok in 2008 in objection to the company's outsourcing to China (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 23). Currently only 2.3% of NHL players use Sherwood sticks (Exhibit 1, Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 20). This is a concern for Sher–Wood, especially since "hockey sticks endorsed by professional hockey players enjoyed a strong position in the hocket stick market." (Zhang & Beamish, 2011, p. 19) Related to this issue is the fact that the market is showing signs of maturity, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If I wanted a picture I'd buy a painting." The second part is where the fun part actually starts, you're going to add one or two heaping spoonfuls of regular white frosting to the crumbled up cake you have. Keep adding frosting until you get the consistency pretty doughy, but still firm enough to handle. After kneeding the dough thoroughly you're going to want to roll the dough out inch size balls. A normal box of cake mix should make about 20 cake pops. After all the balls are rolled out, they should go in the fridge or freezer for about a half an hour to help them set. After those agonizing thirty minutes are up, you're able to take the cake pops out of the refrigerator or freezer, and then melt some almond bark. After dipping the stick in the almond bark, you're going to want to stick it about halfway through the now official "cake pop". The chocolate on the stick is to help the stick stay sturdy while you actually eat the sweet treat. When you've finished putting the sticks into each of the cake balls, you should put them back into the refrigerator in order to help the chocolate solidify. Transition: The last part we're going to focus on is probably the most simple. Decorating the cake pop. Using the previously melted almond bark, you can simply dip the cake pop in and spread a thin layer of chocolate all around the pop. While the chocolate is still wet, feel free to decorate in any way you'd like. For today I just used simple sprinkles but there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My gratitude list includes living, breathing things, like my dogs and my friends, and now for the last decade, includes my father and our annual visit to our summer cabin in Northern Minnesota. My father just pushed past ninety–three in March of this year. I am very grateful to have developed a relationship with him that is more like a friendship and camaraderie. He makes for great company in a place with very little noise. Our relationship transformed after my mother passed and now our vacation week on Lake of the Woods involves us to create conversation and shared experiences. Our vacation retreat is on a small island that now has several walking paths, the necessary boat dock and a very modest cabin. As my mother used to say, "It's a cabin in the sticks". The island's inhabitance began in the 1920's by my father's father. It's both humble and grand. More than once will I hear the word" Paradise" as my father voices his awe at the rugged beauty that surrounds us on all sides. You can only describe these 14, 500 islands that dot Lake of the Woods as 'timeless'. It's hard to understand that even some of your best friends and close family could actually be holding you back but once you cut that tie and push yourself you can be so much more successful. College can be a great place for a study to happen but it can also be very bad, because there is so much diversity but generally unmotivated people don't even go to college but if they do they can't stick it out because they have no perseverance. • 77. The Paradox In Mary Oliver's Crossing The Swamp In Mary Oliver's "Crossing the Swamp", the speaker compares a swamp to the struggles and hardships in life that fight against her. The speaker repeatedly contrasts herself to the swamp to emphasize the vastness of the swamp, conveying how the speaker understands the hardships that come with life. The speaker describes the swamp as a "wet thick cosmos [...] ーthe nugget". The paradox compares the vast "cosmos" with a small golden "nugget," contrasting how the experience the speaker is going through may be on a small scale such as the "nugget", but may be large and vast like a "cosmos". The nugget is described with caesuras, and the caesuras are repeated five times throughout the poem. They act as an interruption in the poem, conveying that the speaker cannot smoothly walk through the swamp and the journey is labor–intensive. As the speaker goes through the swamp, she experiences "branching vines, the dark burred faintly belching bogs". The alliteration of the hard "b" sound emphasizes how the speaker is fighting against the struggles in the swamp to get through. The struggles are emphasized as she goes through "pathless, seamless, peerless mud". The scarcity of the mud is described with the repeated use of "less" and the speaker indicates how the mud is moveless and still. The image is further expanded with the comparison to life, and how life requires individuals to make their own path through their life and that the universe does not simply create paths for each individual. She then feels her "bones knock together at the pale joints" as she tries to grasp "for foothold, fingerhold, mindhold over" the mud. The descriptions increase her sense of powerlessness in the vast cosmos she is in. Her mindset shifts as she struggles over "such slick crossings, deep hipholes, hummocks that sink silently into the black, slack earthsoup". The repeated sibilants emphasizes how she is slowly sinking into the mud. However, she is not resisting but is accepting the mud and the fact that she has no control over it. The acceptance contrasts her earlier struggles with the "belching bogs" that she fought against. Mud symbolizing life's struggles itself, the speaker learns to accept the challenges ahead of her. She shifts to an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
