Techniques
The Skyfall opening title sequence contains many different
camera shots and angles. The first one I will discuss is a long shot
which is shown to the right. A long shot contains the full body of
the actor that is drowning in this scene and also a lot of
background detail. I think this type of shot is very effective for the
context of the scene as it includes lots of evidence of what is
happening where as if it was a mid-shot there would be less of an
image to portray.
This next shot is a mid-shot of actor Daniel Craig starring as James
Bond, the structure and placing of the shot creates a negative
effect as the whole shot is dark. Within the shot you can mainly
just see outlines of all the objects and with it being a mid-shot
rather than a long shot you can see the detail more clearly so it’s
very effective.
The shot to the right is an extreme close up; these shots contain
the most detail as they’re so zoomed in and focused on one main
thing. For example, this shot it’s the actors eye because it
immediately draws your attention and you can see every tiny
detail there is. Extreme close up shots are effective due to the
amount of detail they consume, they can almost tell a story.

Visual Effects &
Colour Scheme
The main colours that jump out at you in the Skyfall opening title
sequence are Blue and Red.
To begin with all the shots have a blue effect on them almost like
a blue light that gives off a cold vibe, it is especially effective
when you can see the ocean and the sky as the colour blue
resembles them things. The colour blue is associated with and
could represent stability and confidence which applies to the film
as Agent 007 never backs down and those words coincide with
his personality.
The colour red immediately makes me think blood which also ties
in with the film Skyfall because as it is action based, there is lots
of guns and knives and fighting, etc. Red is an intense colour and
can also resemble danger and power which is linked into the
content of the film also.
Genre Conventions
The genre of the movie Skyfall is strictly action based, however,
there are some signs of adventure and thriller in there too.
Within the opening title sequence you see many images and uses
of guns which automatically resemble fighting and death and
these things tie into the action/thriller theme. Also, you see
many shots of graveyards and coffins and gravestones which
obviously link to death proving that within the film people will die
- this also links into the thriller theme. For adventure, the fact
that all these shots are taken in several different locations, it
helps to conclude that the film is going to be all over the place
packed with various adventures.

Narrative
There is no dialogue within the opening title sequence of Skyfall.
Although, the shots themselves are effective enough to speak
and tell the audience a clear story of what you’re going to see.
Editing Techniques
A great amount of editing has been applied to the Skyfall opening
title sequence, mainly using computer software. However, there
are some editing techniques used within the filming such as
zooming in and out to compare the detail and effectiveness of
the shot context. The use of tracking is used often to follow the
actors around, especially within the water scene at the beginning
as they’re moving around quite a lot. Tracking allows you to have
what you want in the shot including the main object and the
background.
Lots of colour effects have been used in the editing of this
opening scene, they differ in contrast and brightness to create
different moods and effects that link to the colours.

Title Credit Design
The titles are shown in groups; they’re never on their own apart
from at the beginning when it shows Daniel Craig’s name whilst
he is in the shot as he is the main actor so should be known for
this film. They are positioned at different points of the screen
rather than centre to make it look better and more attractive to
read.
