There are several camera angles and shot types in this title
sequence. It starts with a very high shot of woodland followed by
very quick shots of pictures of the main characters on crime or FBI
records. With a lot of shots in this sequence the camera moves fast
in the air then slow right down so we can see the scenery.
The next shot does this but with open fields. This follows typical
thriller conventions as it has a sense of being watched and not
being able to hide. It does the same with bird’s eye view of a wood
and river. Most of these shots are extreme long shots to show the
huge extent to the scenery. However with the records of the
characters it is a close up of them, focusing on the character. This
also gives the sense of always being watched. Further on there is a
low angled shot looking up out of the trees at the sun. The shots
then turn into shots close down in the areas that were seen
previously seen above. For example there are shots through more
branches giving the sense of being trapped, and shots in dark areas.
These follow thriller conventions. However there isn’t always a
certain center of attention in these shots so there aren’t many of
shot types with this. There is a shot of a caiman, which can be
dangerous creatures. Then there is an open-air shot of the outskirts
2. of a village or town. Showing the title sequence is journey from the
middle of nowhere to society again. This could also mean that
something that is inhuman is turning human and living in society.
This could be a theme for the film. The next shot is a medium shot
of a rusty post box that is numbered 928 which shows that it’s not
quite back into society. The next shot is an eye level shot looking
across a street with cars, people and a train. This shows that it’s in
society. The camera shots then go back to in the middle of nowhere
to then to society to reiterate the change. The sound in this
sequence is all non-diegetic. The song used in this song is by the
black keys. It doesn’t however follow traditional thriller conventions
but works well.
