1. Proposal
Working Title
The name of my documentary is Living With Autism, which is pretty
much a way of expressing my views on autism, how it affects those
who live with it differently, the functions of autism, what you can do
to help those who need the support as they sail through the difficult
of life and how can we adapt autism in conclusion.
Product’s Purpose
The purpose of my documentary is to teach the world the aspects of
the autism spectrum disorder, how to see the signs of one who lives
with the condition and how they cope with the disorder. Also, how I,
an autistic myself, express what I think about it and how over the
years have I dealt with its negative effects on my communication and
eye contact. I will also explain the fact that autism is NOT an illness,
rather a mental condition that affects ones speech, communication
and thinking. Hopefully, I can achieve these goals by explain in
simplified and full detail about the aspects of autism and how can us,
the world, adapt the condition and accept it for what it is and not
misunderstand those who live everyday with it stuck in their heads.
Since this documentary is educational, I will include some samples
such as myself in the documentary, and show you an example of
someone who lives with autism to get a good glimpse. Also, to make
sure the goals are accomplished I will use time wisely to come up
with an script that is not complex for young listeners who may not
understand complex words associated with the condition.
Genre
My information about autism will be presented in the form of an
audio documentary, which is not visual, rather audial for those who
love listening to music on their CD players and the radio in the car or
2. anywhere. This however, will be radio based, meaning it can only be
heard on a radio not a CD. It will last for 2-5 minutes, which is not log
so I don’t add in too much information. Also, this form of genre is
very good because those who like listening to the radio would love to
listen to radio documentaries.
Content
The documentary is all about the Autism Spectrum Disorder, a
mental condition that affects how an individual communicate and
relate to the world around them and how the world makes sense
towards them. The condition also takes control of the speech,
thinking and communication of the individual. Some may need a
lifetime of specialist support, whilst others could ground down jobs
and degrees. The trouble is autism is a massive spectrum and
behaviour can range from a wide amount such as the very clever or
the very odd, and because of this huge spectrum, it can be hard to
adapt who has the condition, what’s it all about and how you should
come to terms with it. Also, since I’m autistic myself, I will shed my
thoughts and feelings about living with autism, and how it affects me
since autism effects different autistics in different ways. I will also
explain that you, the viewers can help autistics by joining groups,
clubs and teams that specialise in helping autistics and lending them
support. By doing this, it will provide an educational vibe, meaning it
will show viewers what to expect from the mind of an autistic. In
terms of story, there is no story but, the road of life for an autistic is
proven to be difficult, but with lots of support, they will get there in
time.
Audience
The audience I have chosen is for all ages. The reason being is
because when kids grow up, they need to know the nature of autism,
so they can understand it for themselves and if they are autistic
themselves too. As for teenagers and adults, they probably know
3. about the spectrum already, I can’t completely guarantee. Hopefully
this will boost their thoughts about it even further. The gender is for
both, since autism affects both genders and not just one. As for
social status, it shouldn’t single out anyone because autism doesn’t
cause any offence in my opinion, so it shouldn’t cause any offence
for anyone. Finally, as for psychographic, my documents shouldn’t
push anyone into becoming addicted to autism. Those who want to
learn about autism though should listen to it, it should be used for
educational purposes and not forceful purposes. My product should
appeal my audience well because I will provide simplified and not
complicated information that will really help those who want to
know about the condition, once again for learning purposes.
Legal & Ethical Considerations
Hopefully, there is no offensive content within my documentary
because I don’t want my product to be known as an offence maker. If
it was, then it would cause upset across those who listen to it. I will
not restrict any young viewers form seeing this document because it
is intended to be educational and help those understand as they get
older what autism is really all about. Because autism is a worldwide
disorder, this product will hopefully not cause any offence or
exceptions towards any religions, social groups or ethnicities because
the topic of autism is widely debated and talked about a lot due to it
being a global disorder and not to one country or group. I will make
sure there is no offence brought forward because of my product is
based on a topic is talked by those who do have it or don’t have it,
autism is not offensive. I will only myself as an example because
there is a huge number of autistics in the world, even some of the
most talented humans in history were autistics such as Albert
Einstein and Isaac Newton, I will only use them as references but
mainly my example. As this is an audio documentary, no slogans or
logos will be used from an existing product because it’s not visual is a
radio documentary. Since autism is a huge subject, it will be
4. mentioned throughout quite a lot and what happens to those who
live with it and how its effects people differently. I will be including a
real song for the background however the recording will be made by
self. Hopefully my product will not be presented in the form of any
real documentary as there will be no copying from existing products.
I hoping there will be no copyright strikes being upbrought, however
the music is an existing song so there may be a struggle there, but
the music is only there for the bright section of the product.
