The early stages of creating my Front
Cover.

2. In order to have my Masthead where I wanted it, which was in the centre, at the top of my
magazine I needed to quick select Phoebe’s face and copy the part of her face which I quick
selected onto a new layer. You can see this in slide number 2.

3. This is the final result from quick selecting Phoebe’s face and pasting it onto a new layers.
It means that her face is now on top of the writing.

4. As you can see here, I found a barcode and pasted it onto a new layer on Photoshop.
At first, I wanted it to be in the bottom right hand corner but then I changed my mind and moved
it to the bottom left hand corner.
I eventually replaced the barcode with a button.

5. Here I am beginning to create some of the cover lines I wanted to put on my front cover,
This one says ‘INTRODUCING…’ which was my main story and eventually going to be my DPS that
is why I put it on the front cover so it could highlight some of the stories I had created in my
magazine.

6. I did not want to be confined solely to the colour black (although originally I thoroughly enjoyed
the idea). I went against my original idea of choosing lots of different shades of blue because I
thought against the white background, a brighter colour seemed more of a necessity.
As you can see, I created more cover lines. However, I did stick to my original idea of changing
only some of the words to different colours.

7. Here, I can be seen experimenting with more colours as I obviously changed my mind about the
pink and what kind of audience I was going to attract.
I felt that the pink was far too girly and went against all of my market research.
I very much wanted to create a unisex magazine. I think I achieved a happy medium by choosing
a bright red which was a unisex colour but at the same time still stood out really well against the
white and black background.

8. Clearly I was feeling extremely indecisive that day as here I am changing the colour scheme once
again. You will be pleased to know that eventually I did go back to a more similar colour scheme I
chose in the first place.
On this slide, you can also see that I am editing the fonts. For example, adding a border around
them which makes them look slightly more 3D and stand out better.
I eventually only went with a border around the writing for my front cover.
