2. PREPARATION
In preparation to make our music video, we watched various
music videos and have taken inspiration from some of the shots
used. One piece of inspiration we took was from Ellie
Goulding’s on my mind where she is seen riding a horse
throughout. We believe that the use of horses in a video makes
it effective as it is able to portray freedom and escape. We are
hopefully going to incorporate this idea into our video and use
in in the sense of escapism. Many horses are used in music
videos to express the freedom which is felt when riding a horse.
3. Another music video that we have taken inspiration from is
Teenagers by my chemical romance. This is because within it
they are featured as a ‘live’ band singing their song. In our
video we are hoping to feature a live band singing/ us watching
the live band. This will make our video look effective because
these types of shots are often used in popular videos. It helps
to portray the fame of the artist/singer as they are usually
filmed with loads of screaming fans. These shots look effective
and fit our genre due to the type of music it is. This is because
EDM play a lot of concerts and having this featured in the music
video helps to promote them/future tours.
4. Many music videos include party/festival scene. We have got
some shots from parties and v which we are going to include.
This helps to create an EDM environment for the video due to
this being the usual scenes shown in this genre’s music video.
These scenes will fit our music video by there being bass drops
when we are able to use these clips and the lights/effects ect
will be able to be used as ‘Cutaways’. Including these clips will
help to fit a ‘real’ environment which we are trying to portray so
that the viewer feels more involved within the video.
5. Another idea we had to feature in our music video was a couple
breaking up. We may use this idea due to it fitting the
stereotypical codes and conventions of a recent music video.
This is due to most songs stereotypically written by women are
about breakups. Due to our song being sung by a women the
lyrics stimulate a break up and a bad relationship. This is what
we are going to feature in our music video and this will be our
main narrative.
6. Another idea we had is to start the video with a ‘dead’ person
who is lip syncing to the video. I took this inspiration from
Bastille’s rhythm of the night where the characters within it get
killed and then continue to lip synch to the song. This looks
really effective and helps to portray the storyline. Within our
video we are going to use the dead person as ‘action before
narrative’ and then the music video storyline will be their life
story. This will make our video seem effective and fit with the
music video theory of the lyrics influence imagery and a strong
simple narrative.
7. In our music video we are going to use foggy road scenes as
a cutaway. We will use this as it fits the atmosphere of the
music video and the dark hidden past of the characters. The
fog seems mysterious and stops the viewers foreshadowing
what's going to happen within the music video which creates
many unanswered questions. This keeps the viewer
interested in the video and willing to watch again.
8. In our music video, we are going to use action before narrative
to show the main characters fate and then rewind using
flashbacks and memories. This will be effective as it is a quick
way of us showing the viewers the storyline of the character and
how she got to this point. The use of memories is commonly
used in music videos to be able to portray the storyline. This
strong simple narrative is effective as it keeps the viewer
interested and watching the music video. This style is very
engaging and helps to include the viewer.
