Khakis Creative Writing
Khakis. The first time I heard this word, it struck me as something exotic. I immediately pictured
myself in untamed Africa, with its rolling deserts and open savannahs. I found myself fleeing from
ferocious lions, laden with fierce, golden manes, and whipping past small prairie dogs, hidden in the
sun–dried grass. I sprinted across the path of an old acacia tree, just in time to look back and watch
the blistering African sun beginning to set, sending bright streaks of red and orange, over the
horizon and across the cloudless sky. I looked ahead and noticed a tent being erected in the distance.
I saw people shouting at me to hurry when, suddenly, the growling in my ears grew louder and
louder and then...laughter? "Geez, Kevin! They're just pants!" my friend busted out laughing.
"What? Pants?" "Yea, everyone wears it here in New England," he replied, "Hey, you should get a
pair!" Suddenly, everything made sense. We were talking about pants. We were talking about how I
don't wear pants because I always wear shorts. As a child, my imagination has gotten myself into too

There are many people that are overly serious and have little joy in their lives. It is truly a tragedy.
As children, these people once wore shorts and lived with an imagination as limitless and boundless
as the open, blue skies, but something happened when they pulled on a pair of pants and grew up.
Perhaps they once had a dream that they could be and do anything they wanted, and the world
trampled them down. Perhaps they once were silly and had fun, only to get into trouble for acting
up. I only know because I've experienced it myself, we all have. However, because of this, I will not

The Sky Above The Roof's Poem Analysis
What would you do if you could rewind time? Paul Verlaine, who was elected "Prince of Poets" by
the French literary world, would probably want to rewind time if he could (Biography n. pag.). He
was identified as "a major influence on the burgeoning symbolist movement and Decadent
movement" (Biography n. pag.). The subjects of his poems are "living, sorrow and grieving, time
and brevity, love, heartache and loss, landscape and pastorals, and nature" (Biography n. pag.). In
December 1880, the publication of a new collection of poems, Sagesse (Wisdom), subsequently
comes to be seen as a major work of Verlaine, as one of his most beautiful (Biography n. pag.). It
comprises more than forty poems, some religious, other profane, and some which can see Verlaine's
remorse and loneliness (Biography n. pag.). "The sky above the roof's..." is one of the collection of
poems, Sagesse (Wisdom), using the visual imagery illustrating the nature. The poem, "The sky
above the roof's", expresses the poet's feelings of loneliness, distance, and regret. In July 12, 1873,
Verlaine was drunk and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was originally written in French and translated into English by Martin Sorrel. In this poem, the
speaker is the one who regrets with his young life, and the addressee is the speaker himself. When
the speaker stands and cries thinking about his young life, the sky above him is so blue and clear.
The wind is blowing and a branch of a tree is waving in the air. A bird in the tree is singing while the
bell from somewhere is making soft sounds. The speaker is feeling blue looking at the sky and the
branch above the roof. Furthermore, he feels sad listen to the sounds of the bell and the birds. The
subject is about sorrow and grieving, and it teaches a life lesson to the youth to spend the time
wisely. This poem evokes the nature imagery as well as his regret longing for freedom while
spending his life in the

Cameron's Avatar Religion
On another note, because of its close relationship with people and their culture, religion is one
sensitive subject that, when challenged, can catalyze full on war, as shown in Cameron's Avatar. The
film takes place in a faraway planet inhabited by a people called the Na'vi. The Na'vi have strong
belief in Eywa, their mother goddess. When humans come to colonize the planet, known as Pandora,
and take its resources, the Na'vi turn to Eywa to protect them. The Na'vi pray to her and ask her to
protect their lands, their goddess, and the jungle. The humans look at this unfaltering faith and
laugh. They believe their religionless structure and industrialism is superior. Morton Deutsch, the

The humans look at themselves as being superior to the Na'vi in all ways. And when the humans
who understand the Na'vi's faith try to dissuade the other humans from destroying the Na'vi's home,
the CEO of the attacking company retorts, "What the hell have you people been smoking out there?
They're just goddamn trees!" (Cameron). After this exchange the militant humans attack and
completely obliterate the Na'vi's home tree. The humans do not believe in the Eywa and the balance
she protects; therefore, they believe the Na'vi are just primitive natives who don't have a right to
anything. In an article by professor Eric Brahm on the website Beyond Intractability, he states,
"...group identities are even more for lay shaped in relation to the other group, thereby reinforcing
the message of extremists that one's religion is that end by another faith that is diametrically
opposed" (Brahm). Meaning that the humans feel threatened. Their "religion" is their ambition to
make money, which requires that they upend Na'vi sacred lands, so obviously the Na'vi are opposed
to this idea. This conflict of interests creates an us and them attitude, in other words, you are either
with us or against us. This does eventually escalate into full scale war. Before the final battle
between the humans and the Na'vi, Jake Sully, a human whose has become part of the Na'vi, prays
to Eywa for help. Later during the battle, when it seems as though all hope for the Na'vi cause is
lost, all of the animals in the jungle start to fight the humans as well, effectively turning the tide and
winning the battle. Neytiri then exclaims, "Eywa has heard you... Eywa has heard you!" (Cameron).
Without religion in this instance, the outcome would have been drastically different. For one thing, it
starts the conflict. The unwavering Na'vi refuse to give up their faith, while the humans see this

Comparing The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
Four siblings: Lucy, Peter, Susan and Edmund Pevensie are all sent to a faraway house to be safe
from the conflicts of World War II. They each step through a wardrobe they discovered and out into
the new world of Narnia–a land tyrannized and ruled by the vicious White Witch. Right before
almost all hope is lost, the Great Lion– Aslan–returns, bringing with him a new found sense of hope
and change. But with great victory, comes great sacrifice.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe belongs to the fantasy genre. This is shown through the use
of supernatural characters, the setting of a different world, and the character's struggle against evil
and heroism.
A unique characteristic of the fantasy genre is the fact that the story takes place in ... Show more

Many times, the heroes are ordinary people that do not know of their power or importance until they
are called upon to perform heroic feats. In support of this, an ancient prophecy is revealed to the
Pevensies, ""Down Cair Paravel there are four thrones and it's a saying in Narnia time out of mind
that when two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve sit in those four thrones, then it will be the
end not only of the White Witch's reign, but of her life."" (Lewis 89). The four brothers and sisters
enter Narnia unknowing of the prophecy made about them a long time ago. The Pevensies do not
know of their importance until they enter Narnia. If not for accidentally discovering the wardrobe
and it's secrets, the children would not have fulfilled their prophecy. In addition to the importance of
heroes, usually the major plot of the storyline is trying to resolve the conflicts of good versus evil.
As a result of this constant struggle a battle occurs, for example, ""The battle was all over a few
minutes after their arrival. Most of the enemy had been killed in the first charge of Aslan and his
companions, and when those who were still living saw that the witch was dead they either gave
themselves up or took to flight."" (Lewis 195). This final battle between good and evil was the
climax in the story, as it determined who would

Mandrill Vs Gibbon Essay
Introduction
There are many similarities and differences in primate species. The ones I chose to focus on today
was the Philippine tarsier, Mandrill and the gibbon. What made me choose these non– human
primates so interesting was the uniqueness and appearance of each primate. I plan to explain the
similarities of their teeth structure and purposes and the similarities of their diet and feeding and also
the differences of their behaviors. Mandrills are extremely colorful, perhaps more so than any other
mammal. They also have extremely long canine teeth that can be used for self–defense though baring
them is typically a friendly gesture among mandrills. These are primarily terrestrial monkeys, and
they move with long arms to move on the ground for fruits, roots, ... Show more content on

diet and like to feed on the same resources such as leaves, and insects. The Philippine tarsier share
many similarities with the Gibbon they are both arboreal which means they spend most of their time
in the trees. And they both have unique functions of their bodies which helps them to maneuver
from tree to tree the Philippine tarsier tibia and fibula are fused in their lower portions, acting as a
shock absorber. This is considered a primitive trait, which can normally be seen in quadrupeds. The
lower limbs are twice the length of its trunk. The Gibbons have shoulder flexors, extensors, rotator
muscles and elbow flexors with a high power or work–generating capacity and their wrist flexors
have a high force–generating capacity which allows the gibbon

Mr Schachter Poem
Never shall I forget that night, the first night in the camp that turned my life into one long night
seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. never shall I forget the small faces of the
children whose bodies I saw transform into smoke under the silent sky. Never shall I forget those
flames that consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my God
and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes. Never shall I forget those things, even were I
condemned to live as long as God himself.
Never.

A few young men forced her to sit down, then bound and gagged her. Silence fell again. The small

The Rain Tree in the Valley
Once upon a time, in a beautiful valley, there lived a rain tree. It was tall and big, and very wise, but
many years had past since anyone came to the beautiful valley. The birds and the butterflies came
and went, and the rain tree was lonely. One day, a little squirrel came to the valley to pick some nuts,
and when it ran under the big rain tree, a lily seed dropped out of its furry tail. After a few days, a
little lily popped up from under the big rain tree. It was small and weak, and it would die soon
because the big rain tree took away all the food and water. Every time the rain came, or the sun
shone, the little lily would stretch its toes, or its neck, to get as much food and water as possible, but
every time, the big rain tree would suck up everything. Soon enough, the little lily was getting
weaker, so it decided to set up a partnership with the big rain tree. One day, it spoke up. "Hello sir,
may I have a minute?" The rain tree, hearing voices for the first time in forever, was startled. He
looked around, but there was no one around. I must be so lonely, he thought, I'm even imagining
voices. "Sir! Right down here!" The little lily raised her voice. The rain tree, shocked, looked around
again. "Over here!" Lily shouted at the top of her lungs. The rain tree followed the little voice it
heard, and finally, it saw the lily. "Well hello there!" he said, bending over. His voice was low, soft
and gentle. The little lily smiled, and asked as nicely as she could,

The Middle East And West Perceive Each Other
How the Middle East and West Perceive each other
Followed by a year of continuous terror attacks by ISIS, riots over cartoon portrayals of the Prophet
PBUH, and the ongoing war in Iraq and Afghanistan, many Muslims and Westerners know that they
have developed bad relations these days. The media continuously portrays the Middle East as nation
filled with terrorist whilst the West are portrayed as the nation that is trying to make peace. There
have been so many misconceptions that have made both cultures create a barrier between them
because of how both cultures are portrayed through the media.
Many in the West, view Muslims as fanatical, violent and as lacking tolerance. Muslims in the
Middle East and Asia have the same feelings towards the west as they view them as violent and
extremist but also selfish, immoral and greedy.
How America Perceives Muslims and the Middle East
Islamophobia existed in America before the terrorist attacks of September 11 2001, but it was not as
harsh as it was back then, but it did increase after the terror attacks and with the media adding more
misconceptions (Sinlak, n.d.). Some of the perceptions that most Americans had of the Middle East
was that they were rich with oil, lived a lavish life and consisted of deserts. They did not have the
idea of the Middle East being a terrorist region where there was always war. However, after 9/11 the
negative views started to increase, and Muslims and the Middle East were viewed very negatively.

There is no being more powerful than my queen, my babies, or myself. Suddenly, the creature

my life, has been bested by this frail creature, King of nothing. I charge at him, determined to

Magic Boomerang Short Story
In a faraway land called Australia lived a tribe of aboriginals called the Luritja people. The land they
lived on was harsh and very hot but they had adapted over hundreds of years to be able to survive in
this rough country. They caught fish, hunted kangaroos, wallabies, lizards and snakes. In this tribe
lived a boy called Charlie and he spent his days playing with the other boys in the tribe, learning to
fish, hunt, track animals and he even learned what animals made the footprints in the red dirt. His
uncle would tell him stories of long ago (these are called Dreamtime stories) and he would sit really
still so he could listen to the whole story and not miss any of it. His grandfather made him a spear
that he could practice with and although it was not as large as his father's spear it could still be used
to hunt small creatures like lizards.
One day while Charlie watched his older brother practice throwing a boomerang and making it
return to him. He thought this must be a magical boomerang and he wanted a magic one too but he
did not know how he would get it. His father told him he was too small for a boomerang as he
would not be able to throw it and have it return to him. Charlie thought that was not fair he really
wanted a magic boomerang and no one was going to help him so he decided he would make one for
himself and it would be a magic one.

Characteristics Oedipus A King
Myles Derr
Topic 3 Some characteristics Oedipus shows while he is a king is his impatience, his ability to act
rashly, and how quick he likes to take action. One example of this is on page 18 of The Oedipus
Cycle when he says, "What a wicked old man you are! You'd try a stone's patience! Out with it!"
Oedipus says this after Teiresias refuses to tell him what he knows about the murderer of the
previous king of Thebes. Instead of trying to persuade him further or just accept that Teiresias won't
tell Oedipus what he wants to know, his impatience causes him to act rashly and start insulting the
seer. Another example of Oedipus's tendency to act quickly appears on page 28 when Oedipus says
to Creon, "You murderer! Do you think I do not know that you plotted to kill me, plotted to steal my
throne?" Prior to their conversation, Oedipus asks his brother–in–law, Creon, to bring Teiresias to
him so they may ask him what he knows. After Teiresias refuses to share what he knows with
Oedipus, he eventually tells him that Oedipus is the murderer that he is seeking. Just from this,
Oedipus quickly comes to the conclusion that Creon urged Teiresias to say this in order to usurp the
throne. Another example of Oedipus's rashness appears on page 43 of The Oedipus Cycle, "The
groom leading the horses forced me off the road at his lord's command; but as this charioteer
lurched over towards me I struck him in my rage . . . Swinging my club in this right hand I knocked

Knowledge in Gilgamesh and Genesis Essay
Ancient world literature and early civilization stories turn around human's relationship with higher
beings. Ancient civilizations were extremely religious, holding the belief that their very lives were in
the hands of their almighty god or goddess. This holds true for both the people of biblical times as
well as those of the epic era. However, their stories have some differences according to cultural
variation but the main structure, idea and theme are generally found correlative. It is hard to believe
that that one work did not affect the others. The first great heroic epic poem of Gilgamesh and the
Old Testament are two cultures that are hundreds of years apart. Upon studying the book of Genesis
and the story of Gilgamesh; whereas one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Omniscient God only have the power, knowledge and control over human; to maintain that
superiority God typically responds to human behavior with what they deserve. God blesses the
righteous and punishes the evil man to remind their limitation and worship to the God.
Throughout the Book of Genesis, the idea of knowledge emerges throughout punishment. This
theme is most apparent when Adam and Eve deceive God by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of
Good and Evil. When they do this, they are immediately given the ability to discern between right
and wrong. The Bible states, "The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes,
and desirable for gaining knowledge" (Genesis 3:6). Promptly Adam and Eve gain knowledge and
realize their nakedness as deity punishment.
Likewise in Gilgamesh, Enkidu, was a wild man before seduced by a harlot from Uruk. After his
encounter with harlot he notices his abilities have been greatly suppressed. "Enkidu was grown
weak," the narrator tells us, "for wisdom was in him, and the thoughts of a man were in his heart."
The woman says to him, "You are wise, Enkidu, and now you have become like a god. Why do you
want to run wild with the beasts in the hills?" She tells him about "strong–walled Uruk" and "the
blessed temple of Ishtar and of Anu, of love and of heaven," and about Gilgamesh himself.

Personal Narrative: Death Is Life
When I was nine my father died. Death sprung from its hiding place and took what was most dear to
me. I love my dad; he taught me to love and to enjoy life. We often went fishing and biking together.
After his death the bikes and fishing poles collected dust in the garage. Sometimes when I let the
feelings get to me, I would stare at the two dusty bikes and fishing poles and punch them with my
small hands.
Death is life's protagonist, and has sparked in me the opportunity for personal growth. One summer
later, my mom decided to take me to Spirit Rock, a meditation center. Gradually, through the
meditation they taught, I was able to cut through the whirlwind of thoughts and feelings inside of
me, to find something more enduring and peaceful, beyond the comings and goings of body, mind,
and heart. I haven't really figured out the right words, but I know that when I'm there I feel at home.

Toxic Masculinity In Lord Of The Flies
Within Lord of the Flies, we see firsthand the tendency toward violence and destruction that lies
within humanity, and boys in particular. Without society, they fell apart. They committed atrocities
that go against every rule, every social expectation, we see in humanity. Although Lord of the Flies
shows important ideas about boys' place in society, it also allows the reader to form unrealistic
views on ideas such as death, violence, and conflict. When you hear the phrase "toxic masculinity,"
it's usually used as a joke. For those of you who have somehow never heard of toxic masculinity in
this context, it's not something that's taken seriously. It criticizes patriarchal societies, so a

Struggles of Lower Class Students in Learning in the...
bell hooks is successful in delivering her message in article "Learning in the Shadow of Race and
Class" because she gives examples of herself as well as examples of other students who she has
known. She argues that lower class students were ignored by their teachers and peers. Although, few
sentences and paragraphs in her article are not as effective as the whole article, still reading it is
interesting. In her essay, hooks defends poor people who have been ignored by white people at
school. She also explains her situation when she was studying. She defends poor people, which is
what most of the good writers are doing in order to let their readers know that they are not thinking
about getting money or anything like that. hooks is an effective writer through the use of persuasive
examples and emotional appeals. In her essay, hooks gives many examples about herself and others,
about how it feels to be alone, and poor. That makes her believable. And these examples improved
her essay. She says that she stopped thinking about having money and everything else but the
education. She talks about a girl who never gave up studying, despite some problems she
encountered. She talked about specific friends of hers, for example, "Like my friend during
freshmen year, she shared the understanding of what it was like to be a have–not in a world of
haves." hooks expresses how difficult it was when she was in San Francisco, and people around her
spoke a language she did not understand.

The Importance Of Magic Faraway Tree School
Objective
To obtain information, facts and evidence, relating to Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programs
and present a critical analysis; thereby enabling Magic Faraway Tree School (MFTS) to make an
informed, research–based decision about whether they should begin to initiate a BYOD policy in the
school.
Context of school
MFTS is in close proximity to Enchanted Distant Shrub CBD; with significant access to wireless
internet. The school is located in an affluent area; hence most students are from families with high
socio–economic statuses. However, the school's technology is a little outdated. While it has an
Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) in each classroom; there are only two small computer labs, which do
not allow for 1–1 computing. The school has one class set (26) of iPads to share. To enable students'
development of 21st century skills and adhere to the QTM (NSW DET 2003), the school wants to
extend their technology use, and aims to find out more about BYOD programs.
Summaries of a report and three articles that discuss the implementation of BYOD
NMC Horizon Report: 2014 K–12 Edition (Johnson et al. 2014)
Within the report, beginning on page 34, is a section entitled Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) –
Time–to–Adoption Horizon: One Year or Less. It explained the concept, BYOD, is not only limited
to schools, but also, extensively to work environments. Relevant to teaching, it discussed BYOD's
relevance for teaching, learning and creative inquiry. The vocabulary used, such as;

Theories of Development
The way we work with children and current practice is affected by theories of development which
are written by many physcologists who have studied children and ways in which they develop. They
have many varied ideas about how children learn. The physcologists have proposed different
theories that they claim to explain children's learning and how important the nature versus nurture
argument is. Some of the physcologists and their theories are outlined in this essay.
COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT
Jean Piaget's theory was that children learn through experience and how they change their
perception of things based on what they have learned or experienced. They learn things at different
ages and stages of their lives. As children experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
if the child does good work or has positive behaviour then they are awarded a house point which
they accumulate and goes towards their house. At the end of the year the children that are in the
house that gets the most points get a reward. Children are also rewarded with a star stamp on their
hand that shows them that they have done well and also they can show their parents that they have
done well.
BEHAVIOURIST THEORY
John B Watson's theory was that children learn behaviour through watching others. He believed
children could be trained into behaving in a positive manner. He used Pavlov's theory of how to
train dogs and believed we could condition children to behave appropriately. His theory influences
current practice through how to inflict positive behaviour in children and to change their behaviour
so children can learn new skills and basic behavioural principles.
SOCIAL LEARNING THEORY
Albert Bandura's theory was that children learned behaviour through watching their parents, peers or
other adults through social interaction. He didn't believe that children's behaviour could be trained
but by observing their behaviour. He also believed that even though children learn a new behaviour
doesn't mean they will carry it out. he also said that children learn through socialising with others.
Bandura's theory has influenced current practice by encouraging and influencing good behaviour
and building self esteem.

My Auntie Yumi 's House Was A Place Of Refuge, My Favorite...
My Auntie Yumi's house was a place of refuge, my favorite place. My siblings and I spent a lot of
time there in the years our parents despised each other. We escaped my drunk, avoidant father for
the shade of the century–old plumeria tree in Auntie Yumi's front yard. We recoiled from my
mother's violent, hate–filled outbursts by retreating to Auntie Yumi's kitchen, where the screenless
windows welcomed cool breezes and feather–light drizzle, and the smell of the mosquito punk
smoldering under the kitchen table was like a balm to our bruised minds.
Nearly half of all marriages in the United States end in divorce, but there's still a lot of stigma
surrounding post–divorce parents and children. My parents prolonged their tumultuous relationship
in a misguided attempt to maintain a stable environment for their children, but our home life was
anything but stable. This resulted in my siblings and me living in an unhealthy environment that
caused more trauma than a divorce would have. It was my childhood mentor who helped me come
to grips with the guilt and shame associated with my parents' breakup and embrace a different, but
healthier, family dynamic.
My Auntie Yumi, my other mother, is my best friend's mom. Petite, with sparkling upturned eyes, a
lilting Japanese accent, coarse graying hair cut short, and skin turned a dark caramel by days
working in the garden and tending to the animals on her little homestead, she is a life–long learner
who in her forties picked up

"Oh my God, Avery!" Emma exclaimed as the credits started to roll. "That movie was totally scary, I
don't think I'll ever be able to sleep again"
Avery rolled her eyes in exasperation. "Emma, we were watching Frozen, not Chainsaw Massacre."
Her friend definitely had a penchant for the dramatic. She opened her mouth to carry on, but the
words were interrupted by a gentle snore; beside her, Emma was fast asleep. Chuckling to herself,
Avery's eyes fluttered shut and she allowed her mind to be stolen by the night.
Tap tap tap. Avery stirred, emerging from her slumber.
Tap tap tap.
"Emma, cut it out!" The words fell from her mouth in a clumsy heap.
Tap tap tap.
Tired and bleary eyed, she rose from the warm comfort of her bed. Her gaze was immediately drawn
to the window, outside of which a gnarled sycamore grew. It's branches twisted like distorted limbs,

Who Is The Calyedonian Boar Hunt?
The Calyedonian Boar Hunt (about 1611–1612), by Peter Paul Rubens (Flemish, 1577 – 1640) is a
dynamic depiction of strength and emotion on the part of both man and beast. It is base on a
mythical event of Greek times. Angered over not receiving a sacrifice the god Artemis sends a wild
boar to ravage the country as punishment. Rubens captures the climax of the story as the king's son
Meleager lunges his spear into the shoulder of the boar. The hunt was a daunting task as
demonstrated by the carnage beneath the hooves of the mighty beast as it stares at Meleager with an
arrow gouged in its head. Rubens uses the baroque style of painting by creating a drama with space,
emotion and diagonal lines of movement. The boar has a large powerful head ... Show more content

trajectory toward the back of the boars head. The horsemen illustrate lots of movement as they are
sitting horses that are standing on hind legs. The faces of the people on the other side are all
depicting emotion with the lowered brows and darting eyes. The woman with the bow must have
shot the boar in the head a few seconds ago by the twisting of her left arm, while her right reaches to
grasp another arrow. Lost of motion can be seen in how her clothing is moving around her body.
This dynamic movement is intensified by the size of her right leg with respect to her left leg and the

to control the hound. Drawn in by all the illustration of dynamic movement you can almost hear the

Essay on The Theme of Knowledge in Gilgamesh and Genesis
Ancient world literature and early civilization stories are mostly centered on human's relationship
with higher beings. Ancient civilizations were extremely religious, holding the belief that their very
lives were in the hands of their almighty god or goddess. This holds true for both the people of
biblical times as well as those of the epic era. However, their stories have some differences
according to cultural variation but the main structure, ideas, and themes are generally found
correlative. It is hard to believe that one work did not affect the others. The first great heroic epic
poem of Gilgamesh and the Old Testament are parts of two cultures that are hundreds of years apart.

The divine blesses the righteous and punishes the evil man to remind their limitation and worship to
the God.
In the Book of Genesis, the idea of knowledge emerges throughout punishment. This theme is most
apparent when Adam and Eve deceive God by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
When they do this, they are immediately given the ability to discern between right and wrong. The
Old Testament states, "The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and
desirable for gaining knowledge" (Genesis 3:6). Promptly Adam and Eve gain knowledge and
realize their nakedness as punishment from God. Likewise in Gilgamesh, Enkidu, was a wild man
before he was seduced by a harlot from Uruk. After his encounter with harlot he notices his abilities
have been greatly suppressed. "Enkidu was grown weak," the narrator tells us, "for wisdom was in
him, and the thoughts of a man were in his heart." The woman says to him, "You are wise, Enkidu,
and now you have become like a god. Why do you want to run wild with the beasts in the hills?"
She tells him about "strong–walled Uruk" and "the blessed temple of Ishtar and of Anu, of love and
of heaven," and about Gilgamesh himself. (Gilgamesh page 15). This suppression is from the gods
for his acquisition of knowledge. Both Eve's nakedness and Enkidu's loss of strength demonstrate
the gods' propensity to punish by

Writer Marguerite O'Hara states: "This was never terra nullius and, as in most parts of the country,
white settlement was both disruptive and destructive of the original inhabitants' way of life". This is
demonstrated by the main Aboriginal characters, Nullah and King George, who both live in their
land by the means of other people. They also practice traditional dream songs and 'sing the land'
throughout the film in times of trouble. King George navigates the unknown Never–never land

Under The Wave Off Kanagaw Hokusai
The art of South and East Asia provided new forms for traditional ideas. Japan is one of a
multiplicity of countries where the ideas of artists were rooted in the artistic traditions of previous
eras or of other countries. These artists would then place their own spin on the art, in regards to both
subject and style. Tradition and innovation are complementary qualities of the arts of South and East
Asia, as the artists of South and East Asia both inspired other artists and took inspiration from other
artists. In the eighteenth century in Japan, landscape painting emerged as an incredibly popular
subject, coinciding with an increase in access to inexpensive multicolor woodblock prints.
Previously, landscape painting was long regarded as a major subject of Chinese and Korean
painting. Japanese landscape artists also took inspiration from Dutch landscape engravings imported
into Japan when the ruling Tokugawa government was attempting to enforce its isolationist policy.
However, Japanese printmakers drastically transformed the compositions and coloration of these
Western models of landscape painting. Katsushika Hokusai is regarded as one of the most famous

The Battle Of The Woods Lived A Village Of Warriors
Deep in the woods lived a village of warriors that had long fought to keep their lands clear of the
wolf menace, but to no avail. It seemed to the villagers that there was a stalemate between them, or
perhaps the wolves had grown accustomed to the taste of their blood and were finally bored with
them. The killings became sporadic and less frequent, to the point where eventually the warrior
culture began to deteriorate. The magic that was instilled in every villager was fading, their innocent
blue eyes remained. Without killing, their eyes were never stained with death and a pair of brown
eyes was a rare sight here. Wolves were now just fairy tales told to children to keep them from
straying too far into the woods. Such was the case with the Faraway girl, whom people simply
called Red. She donned a blood red cape wherever she went because it was a family heirloom
handed down to her by her mother. Every Faraway woman for ten generations had worn the cape
and kept it in the most immaculate condition. When they would wear it the people of the village
always called them Red instead of their given name, it was tradition. Some of the older villagers
knew a story of a great warrior who wore a cape like it. They say it was made of the blood of one
thousand wolves, their deaths woven into the magic fabric. This was the same story that was told to
Red when she asked her grandmother why she had one brown eye and one blue. She told her, "One
of our ancestors was said to have slain

the butter churn and "rump" seat outlines on the table benches are noted. She wraps the dasher and

Taking Circe advice Odysseus was able to get pass Scylla and Charybdis, but the fatality was that he
lost six of his men because Scylla ate them alive. The revelation or the abyss of the hero's journey
can be described in the Odyssey as Odysseus going to the underworld known as Hades. Odysseus
went there because Circe instructed him to do so. It was there Tiresias, which is a blind prophet tells
Odysseus that he will return home. He also tells him he will reunite with his wife and take command
of his kingdom from suitors. He then instructs Odysseus that he need to take a trip to a faraway land
to appease the god Poseidon. After revealing this prophecy he warns Odysseus not to touch the
flocks of the sun when he arrives in Thrinacia. If he does he will encounter much more hardship and
suffering and he will also lose more members of his crew Atonement which is a major part of the
hero's journey can best be described when Odysseus kills the suitors and the unfaithful servants. He
then takes back control of his palace. Atonement can also be viewed as Odysseus acknowledging
those who have been his faithful friends throughout his absence. This can be seen as him becoming
master of both worlds. The last part of the hero's journey is the return. In the Odyssey the return is
when Odysseus gets to reveal who he really is to his wife and father. Penelope did not want to

Jim Elliot Chapter Summary
Book Review:
Jim Elliot: One Great Purpose by Janet & Geoff Benge
I chose this book because I have seen the movie: End of the Spear.
Jim was influenced by the different missionaries visiting his home, who then told him about their
life on faraway mission fields. He asked them questions and dreamed about being a missionary
himself some day.
Jim hoped to be a missionary, because it made him sad that so many people in other countries died
without knowing about God.
Jim actually became a missionary. He left the USA and boarded an 18 day long boat trip to Quito,
Ecuador to be a missionary there. Jim and his missionary partner Pete Fleming spent a year in Quito
learning Spanish. They then moved to Shandia a small Quichua village to take the place of the ...

When they arrived in Shandia, they started to learn the language the Quichuas spoke. After 3 Years,
many Quichuas became Christians. It was at this point that it was time to tell the Aucas about Jesus.
The Aucas were a neighbouring tribe that have had little contact with the outside world. The Aucas
had killed many Quichuas. Jim knew the only way to stop the Aucas from killing was to tell them
about Jesus. Jim and four other missionaries began to plan a way to show the Aucas that they were
friendly. Nate Saint, a missionary pilot, came up with a way to lower a bucket filled with gifts to
people on the ground while flying above them. He thought this would be a perfect way to win the
trust of the Aucas without putting anyone in danger. They began to drop gifts to the Aucas. They
also used a loudspeaker to say friendly Auca phrases. After many months, the Aucas even sent a gift
back up in the bucket to the plane. One day while flying above Auca territory, Nate Saint saw a

Analysis Of Summer Life By Gary Soto
In "Summer Life", Gary Soto takes the reader through a guilt–filled day from his childhood. He
describes himself at 6 years old stealing a pie. Utilizing Biblical allusions, Vivid Imagery, and an
immaculate diction
Summer Life starts and ends with biblical allusions, giving the reader exposition without literally
describing Soto's upbringing and values. He "knows enough about hell" and is "holy in every bone",
letting us infer that he comes from a very religious family and likely attends Sunday school. This
gives us the reason why he is so nervous before stealing it and why he becomes consumed by guilt
later. It's not just wrong on an ethical level in society, but it is a sin, something that can grant eternal
damnation to hell. So as the "juice of guilt" drips down his body and he becomes increasingly
anxious, he thinks about "the flowery dust priests give off" and god watching him. As he steals the
pie and runs away, his religious background haunts him. He describes a squirrel nailed to a tree,
alluding to Jesus Christ being nailed to the cross. He remembers bible lessons about Adam and Eve
saying, "I Knew an apple got eve in trouble with snakes". As he indulges and finishes his pie, Soto
tries to forget his sinful act throwing his frisbee around with a shadow "like the shadow of an angel
escaping bad deeds". He climbs underneath his house listening to the "howling sound of plumbing"
comparing it to God or a relative from the other side". He then concludes that "he knew was what
you took and didn't give back" ending this passage with a last call to sin and the bible.
Imagery works in tandem with the allusions in this narrative to really portray a detailed picture in
the reader's mind. As soon as Soto is in the market he thinks of which pie to pick with his "sweet
tooth gleaming". Perhaps portraying a small kid with a big smile and hunger in his eyes. He
"hurries" across the street escaping the market without being caught. Soto utilizes the word
sycamore when describing the sun shining through the trees "between the branches of the yellowish
sycamore". This word being an elevated way of referring to trees gives off an eerie feeling as
following this is the allusion to Christ on the cross. When Soto finally

Khakis Creative Writing

  • 1. Khakis Creative Writing Khakis. The first time I heard this word, it struck me as something exotic. I immediately pictured myself in untamed Africa, with its rolling deserts and open savannahs. I found myself fleeing from ferocious lions, laden with fierce, golden manes, and whipping past small prairie dogs, hidden in the sun–dried grass. I sprinted across the path of an old acacia tree, just in time to look back and watch the blistering African sun beginning to set, sending bright streaks of red and orange, over the horizon and across the cloudless sky. I looked ahead and noticed a tent being erected in the distance. I saw people shouting at me to hurry when, suddenly, the growling in my ears grew louder and louder and then...laughter? "Geez, Kevin! They're just pants!" my friend busted out laughing. "What? Pants?" "Yea, everyone wears it here in New England," he replied, "Hey, you should get a pair!" Suddenly, everything made sense. We were talking about pants. We were talking about how I don't wear pants because I always wear shorts. As a child, my imagination has gotten myself into too many messes to be wearing nice pants. On a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many people that are overly serious and have little joy in their lives. It is truly a tragedy. As children, these people once wore shorts and lived with an imagination as limitless and boundless as the open, blue skies, but something happened when they pulled on a pair of pants and grew up. Perhaps they once had a dream that they could be and do anything they wanted, and the world trampled them down. Perhaps they once were silly and had fun, only to get into trouble for acting up. I only know because I've experienced it myself, we all have. However, because of this, I will not let my imagination be taken away, and I will continue to dream of my fossils, pirate ships, and faraway ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Sky Above The Roof's Poem Analysis What would you do if you could rewind time? Paul Verlaine, who was elected "Prince of Poets" by the French literary world, would probably want to rewind time if he could (Biography n. pag.). He was identified as "a major influence on the burgeoning symbolist movement and Decadent movement" (Biography n. pag.). The subjects of his poems are "living, sorrow and grieving, time and brevity, love, heartache and loss, landscape and pastorals, and nature" (Biography n. pag.). In December 1880, the publication of a new collection of poems, Sagesse (Wisdom), subsequently comes to be seen as a major work of Verlaine, as one of his most beautiful (Biography n. pag.). It comprises more than forty poems, some religious, other profane, and some which can see Verlaine's remorse and loneliness (Biography n. pag.). "The sky above the roof's..." is one of the collection of poems, Sagesse (Wisdom), using the visual imagery illustrating the nature. The poem, "The sky above the roof's", expresses the poet's feelings of loneliness, distance, and regret. In July 12, 1873, Verlaine was drunk and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the speaker stands and cries thinking about his young life, the sky above him is so blue and clear. The wind is blowing and a branch of a tree is waving in the air. A bird in the tree is singing while the bell from somewhere is making soft sounds. The speaker is feeling blue looking at the sky and the branch above the roof. Furthermore, he feels sad listen to the sounds of the bell and the birds. The subject is about sorrow and grieving, and it teaches a life lesson to the youth to spend the time wisely. • 5. Cameron's Avatar Religion On another note, because of its close relationship with people and their culture, religion is one sensitive subject that, when challenged, can catalyze full on war, as shown in Cameron's Avatar. The film takes place in a faraway planet inhabited by a people called the Na'vi. The Na'vi have strong belief in Eywa, their mother goddess. When humans come to colonize the planet, known as Pandora, and take its resources, the Na'vi turn to Eywa to protect them. The Na'vi pray to her and ask her to protect their lands, their goddess, and the jungle. The humans look at this unfaltering faith and laugh. They believe their religionless structure and industrialism is superior. Morton Deutsch, the E.L. Thorndike Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Education ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The humans look at themselves as being superior to the Na'vi in all ways. And when the humans who understand the Na'vi's faith try to dissuade the other humans from destroying the Na'vi's home, the CEO of the attacking company retorts, "What the hell have you people been smoking out there? They're just goddamn trees!" (Cameron). After this exchange the militant humans attack and completely obliterate the Na'vi's home tree. The humans do not believe in the Eywa and the balance she protects; therefore, they believe the Na'vi are just primitive natives who don't have a right to anything. In an article by professor Eric Brahm on the website Beyond Intractability, he states, "...group identities are even more for lay shaped in relation to the other group, thereby reinforcing the message of extremists that one's religion is that end by another faith that is diametrically opposed" (Brahm). Meaning that the humans feel threatened. Their "religion" is their ambition to make money, which requires that they upend Na'vi sacred lands, so obviously the Na'vi are opposed to this idea. This conflict of interests creates an us and them attitude, in other words, you are either with us or against us. This does eventually escalate into full scale war. Before the final battle between the humans and the Na'vi, Jake Sully, a human whose has become part of the Na'vi, prays to Eywa for help. Later during the battle, when it seems as though all hope for the Na'vi cause is lost, all of the animals in the jungle start to fight the humans as well, effectively turning the tide and winning the battle. Neytiri then exclaims, "Eywa has heard you... Eywa has heard you!" (Cameron). Without religion in this instance, the outcome would have been drastically different. For one thing, it starts the conflict. The unwavering Na'vi refuse to give up their faith, while the humans see this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They each step through a wardrobe they discovered and out into the new world of Narnia–a land tyrannized and ruled by the vicious White Witch. Right before almost all hope is lost, the Great Lion– Aslan–returns, bringing with him a new found sense of hope and change. But with great victory, comes great sacrifice. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe belongs to the fantasy genre. Many times, the heroes are ordinary people that do not know of their power or importance until they are called upon to perform heroic feats. In support of this, an ancient prophecy is revealed to the Pevensies, ""Down Cair Paravel there are four thrones and it's a saying in Narnia time out of mind that when two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve sit in those four thrones, then it will be the end not only of the White Witch's reign, but of her life."" If not for accidentally discovering the wardrobe and it's secrets, the children would not have fulfilled their prophecy. In addition to the importance of heroes, usually the major plot of the storyline is trying to resolve the conflicts of good versus evil. As a result of this constant struggle a battle occurs, for example, ""The battle was all over a few minutes after their arrival. • 9. Mandrill Vs Gibbon Essay Introduction There are many similarities and differences in primate species. The ones I chose to focus on today was the Philippine tarsier, Mandrill and the gibbon. What made me choose these non– human primates so interesting was the uniqueness and appearance of each primate. I plan to explain the similarities of their teeth structure and purposes and the similarities of their diet and feeding and also the differences of their behaviors. Mandrills are extremely colorful, perhaps more so than any other mammal. They also have extremely long canine teeth that can be used for self–defense though baring them is typically a friendly gesture among mandrills. These are primarily terrestrial monkeys, and they move with long arms to move on the ground for fruits, roots, ... And they both have unique functions of their bodies which helps them to maneuver from tree to tree the Philippine tarsier tibia and fibula are fused in their lower portions, acting as a shock absorber. This is considered a primitive trait, which can normally be seen in quadrupeds. The lower limbs are twice the length of its trunk. One day, a little squirrel came to the valley to pick some nuts, and when it ran under the big rain tree, a lily seed dropped out of its furry tail. After a few days, a little lily popped up from under the big rain tree. It was small and weak, and it would die soon because the big rain tree took away all the food and water. Every time the rain came, or the sun shone, the little lily would stretch its toes, or its neck, to get as much food and water as possible, but every time, the big rain tree would suck up everything. Soon enough, the little lily was getting weaker, so it decided to set up a partnership with the big rain tree. One day, it spoke up. "Hello sir, may I have a minute?" The rain tree, hearing voices for the first time in forever, was startled. He looked around, but there was no one around. I must be so lonely, he thought, I'm even imagining voices. "Sir! Right down here!" The little lily raised her voice. The rain tree, shocked, looked around again. "Over here!" Lily shouted at the top of her lungs. The rain tree followed the little voice it heard, and finally, it saw the lily. "Well hello there!" he said, bending over. His voice was low, soft and gentle. The little lily smiled, and asked as nicely as she could, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Middle East And West Perceive Each Other How the Middle East and West Perceive each other Followed by a year of continuous terror attacks by ISIS, riots over cartoon portrayals of the Prophet PBUH, and the ongoing war in Iraq and Afghanistan, many Muslims and Westerners know that they have developed bad relations these days. The media continuously portrays the Middle East as nation filled with terrorist whilst the West are portrayed as the nation that is trying to make peace. There have been so many misconceptions that have made both cultures create a barrier between them because of how both cultures are portrayed through the media. Many in the West, view Muslims as fanatical, violent and as lacking tolerance. Muslims in the Middle East and Asia have the same feelings towards the west as they view them as violent and extremist but also selfish, immoral and greedy. How America Perceives Muslims and the Middle East Islamophobia existed in America before the terrorist attacks of September 11 2001, but it was not as harsh as it was back then, but it did increase after the terror attacks and with the media adding more misconceptions (Sinlak, n.d.). Some of the perceptions that most Americans had of the Middle East was that they were rich with oil, lived a lavish life and consisted of deserts. They did not have the idea of the Middle East being a terrorist region where there was always war. However, after 9/11 the negative views started to increase, and Muslims and the Middle East were viewed very negatively. When we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All I hear are the endless drones of the insects and the loud chirps and squawks of the jungle birds. All are simply local pests, not large enough to satisfy my hunger. From afar I hear a strange, new noise, similar to the incessant ruckus of the birds, but lower. I concentrate on the noise. Could this be my lunch? The sound comes closer and closer. • 27. Characteristics Oedipus A King Myles Derr Topic 3 Some characteristics Oedipus shows while he is a king is his impatience, his ability to act rashly, and how quick he likes to take action. One example of this is on page 18 of The Oedipus Cycle when he says, "What a wicked old man you are! You'd try a stone's patience! Out with it!" Oedipus says this after Teiresias refuses to tell him what he knows about the murderer of the previous king of Thebes. Instead of trying to persuade him further or just accept that Teiresias won't tell Oedipus what he wants to know, his impatience causes him to act rashly and start insulting the seer. Another example of Oedipus's tendency to act quickly appears on page 28 when Oedipus says to Creon, "You murderer! Do you think I do not know that you plotted to kill me, plotted to steal my throne?" Prior to their conversation, Oedipus asks his brother–in–law, Creon, to bring Teiresias to him so they may ask him what he knows. After Teiresias refuses to share what he knows with Oedipus, he eventually tells him that Oedipus is the murderer that he is seeking. Just from this, Oedipus quickly comes to the conclusion that Creon urged Teiresias to say this in order to usurp the throne. Another example of Oedipus's rashness appears on page 43 of The Oedipus Cycle, "The groom leading the horses forced me off the road at his lord's command; but as this charioteer lurched over towards me I struck him in my rage . . . Ancient civilizations were extremely religious, holding the belief that their very lives were in the hands of their almighty god or goddess. This holds true for both the people of biblical times as well as those of the epic era. However, their stories have some differences according to cultural variation but the main structure, idea and theme are generally found correlative. It is hard to believe that that one work did not affect the others. The first great heroic epic poem of Gilgamesh and the Old Testament are two cultures that are hundreds of years apart. Omniscient God only have the power, knowledge and control over human; to maintain that superiority God typically responds to human behavior with what they deserve. God blesses the righteous and punishes the evil man to remind their limitation and worship to the God. Throughout the Book of Genesis, the idea of knowledge emerges throughout punishment. This theme is most apparent when Adam and Eve deceive God by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. When they do this, they are immediately given the ability to discern between right and wrong. The Bible states, "The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining knowledge" (Genesis 3:6). Promptly Adam and Eve gain knowledge and realize their nakedness as deity punishment. Likewise in Gilgamesh, Enkidu, was a wild man before seduced by a harlot from Uruk. After his encounter with harlot he notices his abilities have been greatly suppressed. "Enkidu was grown weak," the narrator tells us, "for wisdom was in him, and the thoughts of a man were in his heart." The woman says to him, "You are wise, Enkidu, and now you have become like a god. Why do you want to run wild with the beasts in the hills?" She tells him about "strong–walled Uruk" and "the blessed temple of Ishtar and of Anu, of love and of heaven," and about Gilgamesh himself. We often went fishing and biking together. After his death the bikes and fishing poles collected dust in the garage. Sometimes when I let the feelings get to me, I would stare at the two dusty bikes and fishing poles and punch them with my small hands. Without society, they fell apart. They committed atrocities that go against every rule, every social expectation, we see in humanity. Although Lord of the Flies shows important ideas about boys' place in society, it also allows the reader to form unrealistic views on ideas such as death, violence, and conflict. When you hear the phrase "toxic masculinity," it's usually used as a joke. For those of you who have somehow never heard of toxic masculinity in this context, it's not something that's taken seriously. It is base on a mythical event of Greek times. Angered over not receiving a sacrifice the god Artemis sends a wild boar to ravage the country as punishment. Rubens captures the climax of the story as the king's son Meleager lunges his spear into the shoulder of the boar. The hunt was a daunting task as demonstrated by the carnage beneath the hooves of the mighty beast as it stares at Meleager with an arrow gouged in its head. Rubens uses the baroque style of painting by creating a drama with space, emotion and diagonal lines of movement. The boar has a large powerful head ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The horsemen illustrate lots of movement as they are sitting horses that are standing on hind legs. The faces of the people on the other side are all depicting emotion with the lowered brows and darting eyes. The woman with the bow must have shot the boar in the head a few seconds ago by the twisting of her left arm, while her right reaches to grasp another arrow. Lost of motion can be seen in how her clothing is moving around her body. This dynamic movement is intensified by the size of her right leg with respect to her left leg and the shadows underneath. The man to the right of her face is very intense as he appears to be struggling to control the hound. • 54. Essay on The Theme of Knowledge in Gilgamesh and Genesis Ancient world literature and early civilization stories are mostly centered on human's relationship with higher beings. Ancient civilizations were extremely religious, holding the belief that their very lives were in the hands of their almighty god or goddess. This holds true for both the people of biblical times as well as those of the epic era. However, their stories have some differences according to cultural variation but the main structure, ideas, and themes are generally found correlative. It is hard to believe that one work did not affect the others. The first great heroic epic poem of Gilgamesh and the Old Testament are parts of two cultures that are hundreds of years apart. The divine blesses the righteous and punishes the evil man to remind their limitation and worship to the God. In the Book of Genesis, the idea of knowledge emerges throughout punishment. This theme is most apparent when Adam and Eve deceive God by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. When they do this, they are immediately given the ability to discern between right and wrong. The Old Testament states, "The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining knowledge" (Genesis 3:6). Promptly Adam and Eve gain knowledge and realize their nakedness as punishment from God. Likewise in Gilgamesh, Enkidu, was a wild man before he was seduced by a harlot from Uruk. (Gilgamesh page 15). This suppression is from the gods for his acquisition of knowledge. Both Eve's nakedness and Enkidu's loss of strength demonstrate the gods' propensity to punish by ... Writer Marguerite O'Hara states: "This was never terra nullius and, as in most parts of the country, white settlement was both disruptive and destructive of the original inhabitants' way of life". This is demonstrated by the main Aboriginal characters, Nullah and King George, who both live in their land by the means of other people. They also practice traditional dream songs and 'sing the land' throughout the film in times of trouble. King George navigates the unknown Never–never land during Sarah Ashley's cattle drove to help them get to Darwin safely. The fading scenes of their journey along to the sound of a didgeridoo and his familiar chants creates the idea that a supernatural force of sorts is in the land which King George shares a distinct connection with. How could she get them off their trail? Abby was an expert in trickery, for her age, at the least. She should be able to throw them off for a while. "Hurry!" she whispered as David turned around. Japan is one of a multiplicity of countries where the ideas of artists were rooted in the artistic traditions of previous eras or of other countries. These artists would then place their own spin on the art, in regards to both subject and style. Tradition and innovation are complementary qualities of the arts of South and East Asia, as the artists of South and East Asia both inspired other artists and took inspiration from other artists. In the eighteenth century in Japan, landscape painting emerged as an incredibly popular subject, coinciding with an increase in access to inexpensive multicolor woodblock prints. Previously, landscape painting was long regarded as a major subject of Chinese and Korean painting. Japanese landscape artists also took inspiration from Dutch landscape engravings imported into Japan when the ruling Tokugawa government was attempting to enforce its isolationist policy. • 68. The Battle Of The Woods Lived A Village Of Warriors Deep in the woods lived a village of warriors that had long fought to keep their lands clear of the wolf menace, but to no avail. It seemed to the villagers that there was a stalemate between them, or perhaps the wolves had grown accustomed to the taste of their blood and were finally bored with them. The killings became sporadic and less frequent, to the point where eventually the warrior culture began to deteriorate. The magic that was instilled in every villager was fading, their innocent blue eyes remained. Without killing, their eyes were never stained with death and a pair of brown eyes was a rare sight here. Wolves were now just fairy tales told to children to keep them from straying too far into the woods. Such was the case with the Faraway girl, whom people simply called Red. She donned a blood red cape wherever she went because it was a family heirloom handed down to her by her mother. Every Faraway woman for ten generations had worn the cape and kept it in the most immaculate condition. When they would wear it the people of the village always called them Red instead of their given name, it was tradition. Some of the older villagers knew a story of a great warrior who wore a cape like it. They say it was made of the blood of one thousand wolves, their deaths woven into the magic fabric. This was the same story that was told to Red when she asked her grandmother why she had one brown eye and one blue. She told her, "One of our ancestors was said to have slain ... Jim was influenced by the different missionaries visiting his home, who then told him about their life on faraway mission fields. He asked them questions and dreamed about being a missionary himself some day. Jim hoped to be a missionary, because it made him sad that so many people in other countries died without knowing about God. Jim actually became a missionary. They also used a loudspeaker to say friendly Auca phrases. After many months, the Aucas even sent a gift back up in the bucket to the plane. • 76. Analysis Of Summer Life By Gary Soto In "Summer Life", Gary Soto takes the reader through a guilt–filled day from his childhood. He describes himself at 6 years old stealing a pie. Utilizing Biblical allusions, Vivid Imagery, and an immaculate diction Summer Life starts and ends with biblical allusions, giving the reader exposition without literally describing Soto's upbringing and values. He "knows enough about hell" and is "holy in every bone", letting us infer that he comes from a very religious family and likely attends Sunday school. This gives us the reason why he is so nervous before stealing it and why he becomes consumed by guilt later. It's not just wrong on an ethical level in society, but it is a sin, something that can grant eternal damnation to hell. So as the "juice of guilt" drips down his body and he becomes increasingly anxious, he thinks about "the flowery dust priests give off" and god watching him. As he steals the pie and runs away, his religious background haunts him. He describes a squirrel nailed to a tree, alluding to Jesus Christ being nailed to the cross. He remembers bible lessons about Adam and Eve saying, "I Knew an apple got eve in trouble with snakes". As he indulges and finishes his pie, Soto tries to forget his sinful act throwing his frisbee around with a shadow "like the shadow of an angel escaping bad deeds". He climbs underneath his house listening to the "howling sound of plumbing" comparing it to God or a relative from the other side". He then concludes that "he knew was what you took and didn't give back" ending this passage with a last call to sin and the bible. Imagery works in tandem with the allusions in this narrative to really portray a detailed picture in the reader's mind. As soon as Soto is in the market he thinks of which pie to pick with his "sweet tooth gleaming". Perhaps portraying a small kid with a big smile and hunger in his eyes. He "hurries" across the street escaping the market without being caught. Soto utilizes the word sycamore when describing the sun shining through the trees "between the branches of the yellowish sycamore". This word being an elevated way of referring to trees gives off an eerie feeling as following this is the allusion to Christ on the cross. When Soto finally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
