How The Setting Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find
"A Good Man Is Hard To Find"
Flannery O'Connor's " A Good Man Is Hard To Find" depicts a family's encounter with a criminal
escaped from a federal penitentiary and their essential relinquishment of life. The family that the
story surrounds has planned a trip to Florida for a family vacation. Knowing but unconcerned about
the criminal at large, also known as the Misfit, the family voyages onward towards their destination
until the trip is abruptly stopped by a totally unnecessary exploration down an unkempt, hilly and
dangerous road. The dangerous road combined with the unsuspecting attack of the driver from the
grand mothers cat, Pitty Sing, lands the family in a ten–foot deep ditch and in need of help. The ...

The undefined characters of the story only seem to help accelerate the action of the story.
The plot of " A Good Man Is Hard To Find" really starts to take action when the family crashes their
car and in waiting for help sees a car creeping around the bend, and here O'Connor does a good job
setting the tone and image. "The car continued to come on slowly, disappeared around a bend and
appeared again, moving even slower, on top of the hill they had gone over. It was a big black
battered hearse–like automobile. There were three men in it." (308) When O'Connor describes the
vehicle as black and hearse–like you can tell instantly that the family is in trouble and the Misfit is
about to be met. In the eyes of the narrator the family does not know their in trouble until the men
exiting the car show they have guns and the grandmother identifies one of the men as the Misfit.
Identifying the Misfit may have been the most crucial mistake the grandmother made the whole
story, because due to her identifying the man she may have set her family up for death. The
grandmother's son, Bailey, recognizes this and after the Misfit has been recognized and the story
says, " Bailey turned his head sharply and said something to his mother that shocked even the
children. The old lady began to

The Mysterious Space Trooper : The Mysterious Space Trooper
The Mysterious Space Trooper One day there was a mysterious but friendly space trooper. The
space trooper was lonely and sad because he had nothing to do except skateboarding. He lived on
the moon and he noticed there would be no one to be his friend because there are no people or any
other friends that live in space but one day he found an alien and the alien didn't want to be the
space trooper's friend because the alien thought the trooper was bad. After that, the strong trooper
was doing a skateboard trick but his skateboard /broke apart and then he fell over and also he hurt
his knee when the skateboard was broken. There was no one to help him so he was upset and he also
couldn't do his skateboard tricks with his favorite skateboard. He really wanted friends but he
couldn't find any and he was extremely bored. After a while, his skateboarding area was getting
destroyed by rocks falling in it. Now he had really nothing to do and his knee was hurting more.
Then there were two boys named John and Bob and they were going to the moon with their shiny
spaceship. They are ready for their mission to go the moon! John wants to be an astronaut when his
older and Bob wants to be a scientist and an astronaut. After 5 minutes they blasted off into space
and they went past the atmosphere with their super–fast spaceship. The spaceship was made of
metal and iron. The spaceship had twenty boosters and it had a massive fuel tank. Then there is
trouble, some parts are falling off the spaceship so they quickly landed on the moon. When they
arrived they saw a weird thing on the moon. Bob thought it was an alien but John thought it was a
space trooper and he also thought he was upset. So they went to help him and the nice space trooper
was so excited that they came. The boys also gave him a new skateboard and they got all of the
rocks out of the skateboarding area. The energetic space trooper felt better and he showed his
skateboarding tricks to the boys. They were friends and John and Bob had to leave. So they said bye
and they left. They went home safely and the trooper was upset because they couldn't stay for that
long and the boys were proud that they could meet a space trooper in space.

My Life
I sprinted. I sprinted until my lungs burned, and my legs just couldn't move anymore. I began to
quiver with exhaustion. I knew he was still back there. Somewhere, hiding with his knife. Watching.
I'd barely escaped with my life, he knew it and I knew it. I knew he was still on to me. Waiting until
the perfect moment for when I wasn't quite paying enough attention. He'd catch me off guard. I peer
around, looking for a quick escape route through the tall dark trees. Granted, I could hide, but I'm
terrified that he'll find me, and I'll have no chance to run. Today started out just like any other day.
Little did I know it could be my last. I woke up this morning, at seven as usual. I guess you could
say that something felt...well abnormal. The hair on the back of my neck was standing up for nearly
the entire day. I never felt quite alone. The day continued on with unusual occurrences such as
hearing my name being whispered, and doors in my home being open, when I distinctly remember
closing them before going downstairs. As for why I was here in the first place, I guess you could say
that it was quite foolish. I thought that I saw one of my childhood friends approach the trail head to
a near abandoned hiking site. I followed her to see if she wanted some company. I never got the
chance to ask. As I began to walk in the general direction that she did, I heard someone walking
behind me. This took me by surprise, and I spun around. And peered into the distance. I thought

I Should Start My Story At The End Of A Mystery
suppose I should start my story at the beginning. I mean, it wouldn 't make sense to start it at the end
or in the middle, now would it? It 's like if you turn the TV on right at the end of a mystery show and
you learn who the killer is. Well, you 're not going to wait around till that episode plays again to see
the beginning. You already know who the killer is, so it 's not a mystery anymore! No point at all.
Anyways, I 'll just start at the beginning, which just happens to be when I was out in the woods one
day, looking for something to eat. I spotted a few lousy rabbits and squirrels, but I just didn 't feel
like chasing them. You have to feel like chasing something to chase it, and I just didn 't feel like it. I
really didn 't. I was really hungry though. My stomach was growlin' and all. It was about that time
that I caught a whiff of something in the air. Something like cinnamon. I followed it, using my
incredible sense of smell and all, until I came upon a girl wearing a red cloak, walking on a path
through the woods. She had stopped and was picking the small green flowers on the side of the path.
Sitting besides her was a basket that was practically overflowing with marvelous smells. My
stomach growled again. I patted down my grey fur and smelled my breath by breathing into my paw
and sniffing. I tied up the side flaps on my red hunting hat that had holes cut in it for my ears to
poke through. After picking a few more leaves from my fur, I deemed myself worthy to

Zero: A Short Story
Loki is a introverted 16 year old. he loves to read, and usually just prefers to be alone, but that all
changes when he gets braver than he's ever been before. Homecoming was rapidly approaching, and
as per usual, I still didn't have a date. All of my friends have dates, even Hermann, who no one ever
expected to have a date. "Why does everyone I ask seem to have a date," I thought to myself, "I'm a
perfectly nice guy, I'm smart, I try to be funny... bah heck with it. I'll just go to the game, and see
were the night takes me." and with that thought I headed to nutrition and wellness, but I was never
really paying attention, nor was anyone else in the class because of the dance coming up that night.

warmer," I thought, "Loki, why do you have to be so stupid sometimes? Oh well, I just need to focus
on finding her." As I started walking towards the bleachers, I saw her sitting with two of her friends.
lord she was more than cute, she was beautiful. As I started walking towards her, her friends noticed
me grinned and started walking away. "nice, now all you have to do is go sit next to her, and start
talking to her. you can do this loki, no backing down, no retreat." i thought to myself. I took a big
breath of the cool October air, and marched myself to where she was sitting, put on my biggest,
goofiest smile, and through all my nervousness, i spat out it out. "um is this seat taken?" smooth

Autobiography Of Autobiography
I was running down the muddy street of Buffalo hearing some sneers and mothers telling their
children to "look away from that black thing." I'm somewhat used to the ignorance of others even
after I came north. I expected there to be less sneering and cursing at me in the north, well in
comparison, it is less than if I was in the south. I quickly slow down as I approach the gorgeous
marble library in central Buffalo. When I enter the library I see the ample arches, marble flooring
and a stunning array of books. Ironically, it is extremely loud for a library, in which a writer just
ended his book signing. As everyone else files out of the enormous library, I am just arriving to the
history section of library to research a recent document on slavery.
As I search for this document a white man approached me. He is an average sized man with bright
orange hair and deep brown eyes. His mustache was as sophisticated as his suit. As he hovers up to
me he whispers to me "what are you looking for?" I respond "why are you whispering sir?" The man
than laughs and responds "To respect the institution that is a library." He then says "My name is
Mark, can I help you find what you are looking for or recommend you something to your taste?" I
reply back "I am only here to get out of the rain and research a document for my autobiography."
Mark smirks a little and answers well have I got the book to keep your mind elsewhere." Mark then
hands me this large green book that says in big letters "The adventures of Huckleberry Finn." As
Markl walks away, he turns back and says "I happen to know the author, I'm sure he would agree
with me that you will love it."
As I finally find my document, I see that it is still raining out so I decide to listen to Mark and read
this novel. I grab the book, find a seat in the corner, and flip to the beginning of the book. I begin to
get lost in the intricate details of the book. Slowly time starts to pass me by. I begin to yawn and
struggle to keep my eyes open. I close my eyes just to take a quick nap, but what was supposed to be
a quick nap will become a long slumber.
I suddenly wake up in a blur, hearing the soft sound of a river and feeling the heat of the southern
summer. The rocking back and

Descriptive Essay On The Grandmother
Icy fingers gripped my arm in the darkness, I took my attention from the starry sky to look from the
hand that touched me up to the face of my Grandma. She shared a kind smile with me emphasizing
her rosey cheeks warming my own despite the winter snow falling around us. My little sister Sara
squealed with glee as our shepherd pup Macy hopped around her, wagging her tail so fast the entire
back end of her body would follow in sync. Grandma took a deep breath as she rewrapped her rope
around her waist, "How does a cup of tea sound?" her voice was soft & kind, "I think it is time we
all should get some rest." I answered glancing back at sara who was still squealing with joy as she
watched the pup continue to roll in the glistening pillow of snow surrounding the small patch of land
we call home. She nodded in agreement and reached her arm out for me to support her inside. I
grabbed the icy doorknob and turned it slowly before the winter wind pushed it inside with a slam,
revealing our small one room cabin, full of candles all shapes & sizes. On the walls children's
artwork was seen almost everywhere you darted your eyes, colors filled the room bringing cheer to
anyone that was to enter, in contrast to the many war diaries I got from my grandma. The warmth of
from the fireplace was almost felt immediately in contrast to the harsh winter outside. I listened to
the familiar squeak of the floor below us as we made our way over to her low bed, on it was an large

Descriptive Essay : Autumn And Disanje
Autumn and Disanje Once upon a time, there was a beautiful "princess" by the name of Autumn.
She gained this name thanks to her pale auburn hair, her smattering of freckles, and her birth season,
fall. As a child, Autumn grew a fine woven crown intricately designed of thin vines, delicate
flowers, and dainty leaves. As the seasons changed, her crown did too. In the summer her head was
topped with an abundance of color from the vibrantly hued hibiscus, azaleas, and roses that bloomed
there. As summer succumbed to fall, the flowers wilted and died, but the leaves, that intertwined
with the flowers in the earlier season, grew larger and gave way to vivid reds, yellows, oranges, and
purples. This was always Autumn's favorite season, the colors ... Show more content on

One day, Autumn was walking through the forest, singing to the birds, while she collected apples for
her mother's pies. Suddenly, a shuffle of the browning leaves resounded in her ears. Believing it was
simply some mischievous squirrels, bounding through the bushes, heedless of the impending winter,
she continued on her way, using her god–given knowledge of the fruits around her to choose the
sweetest and ripest apples. Again, the rustling came, this time accompanied by the sharp crack of a
twig breaking under the large foot of a heavy animal. Autumn, quite frightened now, turned on her
heel and swiftly made her way towards the edge of the forest. The rustling followed close behind
her. Too terrified to turn and face her stalker, she sped up her pace, a bead of nervous sweat trickling
down her face. As she began to see the first glimpses of her cottage through the trees, a large, leather
gloved, hand wrapped itself around her wrist, causing her to drop her woven basket. Before she
could cry for help, another hand, just like the first, set itself over her mouth, reducing her screams to
muffled whimpers. She felt a cold metal necklace through her Hesitantly her attackers hands
unwove themselves from their tight grasp on her and she whipped around to face him. Her hand,
following closely on the path her body took, lashed out with surprising force, leaving a quivering

Devlin: A Fictional Narrative
Devlin pushed the branches aside and squinted. Smoke lingered above, and as he wiped the sweat
from his forehead a figure began to take shape in the distance. The familiar shiver of fear caught him
short. Devlin peered at the figure, ripples of fog rising. When the figure came into full view, Devlin
smiled. His "pet" a two–hundred and fifty pound black wolf silently sprinted towards him, and
without leaving its feet, it lovingly licked Devlin's neck, smearing blood everywhere. He hopped on
the beast's back and Devlin blended in perfectly with its fur then he grabbed onto the wolf's hair and
steered them back to battle. He must have been at least a mile from the front after being drawn deep

Astonished, they looked at each other with a level of understanding and curiosity. The sun would set
soon and the rest of the nurses had vanished along with all the dead bodies. It was impossible for the
woods to have been cleared that quickly. Devlin's wolf began howling and ran away from them.
Never had the wolf made a sound like that before. They ran after it and in a very organized pattern
all the dead bodies of the fallen soldiers were neatly piled almost to form an alter. They knew who
they had to go to, the battle meant nothing to them anymore.
A witch doctor could usually be found in the heart of a city in a colorful yet discrete and dark shop,
however the one they were looking for had real powers and would confirm what we had seen. All I
wanted to do was cry, but I would never show that weakness in front of my brother Devlin nor in the
face of the death. I am considered young to go into battle as a nurse, only fourteen years of age but
with my mother sickly and on her deathbed I needed to get out of my home. I wanted my mother to
remember me as a strong, independant woman just as she was, instead of a stuck–up, pampered
princess who only saw the light of day when she went on her daily stroll through the gardens to
admire the flowers. Devlin is my youngest of four older brothers so naturally we are the closest. My
other brothers only focus is to keep me out of harm's way but Devlin understands that I want to be
my own person. He taught me how to wield a sword and shoot a bow and arrow, which I have gotten
remarkably better at on my own and I hope to show him someday. He's the reason I am here, he
knew that all our mother wanted is for us to be well taken care

Dogtown And Z-Boys Film Analysis
Dogtown and Z–boys and Lords of Dogtown movies tell the legendary story of the birth and
movement of skateboarding in the 1970's. The original Dogtown and Z–boys, directed by Stacy
Peratla in 2001 is the documentary/ biography version of the film that explains the history of the "Z–
boys" and where they grew up. Lords of Dogtown, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, is the portrayal
of the surfing/ skate team and what they did to mold the business and sport into what it is today. The
original version of the story is historically interesting because it has interviews with the z–boys
themselves and other people that contributed to making history. It gives you the genuine background
of the streets where they collaborated their skateboarding, and the effort and passion that went into
their athletics. Even though the remake is the depiction of the life style that made skateboarding
culture what it is today, I would like to say I enjoy the second version more than the documentary
version. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The team formed in Santa Monica/ Venice Beach California in the early 1970's. The team includes
Jay Adams, Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta, Shogo Kubo, and Skip Engblom, just to name the creators.

cultivated the Z–boys and ultimately modern day skateboarding. Because he was part of the

directed by Catherine Hardwicke who has an eye for edgy, darker films such as the Twilight Sagas

where many of the boys came from broken homes. She portrays the lifestyle of the surf culture
around that time and how the boys looked up to and based their day to day lives on

It's Halloween : My Favorite Time Of School
It's Halloween, my favorite time of year. My three friends and I spent hours getting ready at my
house. This year, we are going to be superheroes, our best idea so far. We each had on a different
colored capes and little tiny masks covering our eyes. This Halloween is going to be a blast.
However, there was just one problem. Mom kept telling me that I needed to be home by ten,
annoying. Apparently, a murderer escaped from prison about ten miles away from our town. Emma
said "Mom you're silly no one ever snuck out of jail." Mom "Yes someone actually did it was all
over the internet and the news." Ok Emma said we will for sure be home by ten. As we walked out
the door, my mom yelled, "Have fun, girls, be safe! Please be home by ten!" After two hours had
gone by, the gray sky had begun to turn black. My best friend Kelly looked at her phone, it was
almost 9:30. We would have to hurry to get home by ten. Besides, houses were becoming further
and further apart. We were out of the familiar subdivision. In fact, I wasn't exactly sure on how to
get back home. We all had goosebumps on our arms because the wind had begun to pick up. I
looked at my other two friends Elizabeth and Kristen, they were both shivering. I had to make a
decision. Taking a shortcut through a small path in through the dark woods. Taking Eagle View road
all the way back to my house would take at least 45 minutes, and my mom would not be happy.

Dogtown And Z-Boys Subcultures
The subcultures have often been considered as the phenomenon that stands out from the society and

Middle Ages Narrative Essay
Day–1 Ok. So today, I woke up on a bed, almost falling down. For a moment, I thought where I was,
and remembered that I have traveled back in time to the Middle Ages. I didn't know why I was on a
bed, or how. Soon after I have done dressing up, I noticed that there was a little girl right next to the
door, peeking in the room. Her sister came into the room, and told me that she found me on this
street that people usually don't go. She gave me a bread to eat, while I observe the room. After
eating the bread, I asked if I could see their mother. And this was the most surprising. The girl told
me that SHE was the mother! I couldn't believe what I've heard, so I asked her again. Same answer.
She told me that it was normal to marry early and give birth early. I asked her age, and answered 14.
Oh god. I'm 17. She's younger than me and is already married. And given birth. And she said it's
normal. I guess medieval girls are so early on stuff. Well the rest of the day was peaceful. Emily was
the mother's name and she told me that if I could help them with chores, I could stay. What a nice
mom! So, I helped her clean the room up. I also noticed something else. It's normal to eat, sleep, and
do other stuff in one room, since there's not enough room. Day–2 Today, I went shopping with
Emily to buy food. I noticed a few things while going to the market. I saw this crowd of people
looking at something. I peeked in and looked at it. It was awful! Emily told me that they were

A Short Story : The Story Of Gretel
When I was a young boy, I lived with my father, a woodcutter and his wife. My name was Hansel
and I had a sister named Gretel. We were a poor family that lived in a great forest. Great misfortune
hit and we couldn't get bread from the land.
That's when it happened. It was night and we were all in bed. I couldn't sleep because of my intense
hunger. I was laying next to Gretel when I heard father. He was complaining with mother about how
to deal with the lack of food. That's when I heard mother say "We will take the children out into the
woods and light a fire for them. We will go to work and leave them."
Most of the rest of the conversation was muffled but we heard all we needed to know. Gretel was
crying and I was trying to soothe her. That night was the beginning to our tale. I snuck into the night
looking for anything that could lead us back once in the woods. I found the brightest pebbles I could
find and put them in my coat pocket. Once back in bed, I said to Gretel that god will protect us.
We were woken the following morning by mother yelling "Get up, you sluggards." Just as they
discussed the night before, we were brought into the woods. They didn't see me dropping the
pebbles on the way. There was one time that scared me when they asked me what I was doing so I
made bluff on the spot. When we were as far away as they wanted they built a fire and left.
We went to bed and waited tell midnight and saw that my plan worked. I led us back to the house
using the pebbles and knocked on the door. Father was so pleased to see us and was sad. On the
contrary, mother was angry and she scolded us for being late.
Not to long after, the land went bad again and we were running out of food
Most things repeated. Father and mother argued about getting rid of us again. They were to bring us
farther into the woods and leave us. Once they were asleep, I was going to go and get more pebbles
but the door was locked. Because it was the all I could do at the time, I comforted my sister.

the woods. She had heard much rumors about these very woods. The village people said the woods
were haunted with ghosts and talking trees. Although, Jaidan didn't believe the stories, she was still
frightened. She had no idea how she got there, or how she was even going to get back.
"Hello?" she yelled, hoping to recieve a response.
"Anybody out here?" she called out.
Nobody answered so she took off walking. She started walking east, yet her village was west. As she
was walking she felt as though someone was following her. She looked back but discovered nobody
was there. She kept on walking but this time at a faster pace. The sun was beaming down on her
causing her to be very hot and dizzy.
She thought her mind started playing games with her. She initially thought she had been going in
circles because every tree she passed looked the same. What she didn't know was that the trees were
moving with her. She spotted a small stream and made her way there. As she was getting a drink she
saw 4 trees in the reflection of the water. "Who are you?" Jaidan asked in a very worried voice.
"We are The Talking Trees." They answered.
"You're not real," she spoke, "It's all in my head."
The trees then grabbed her by her arms and legs and carried her into the darkness of the woods. She
cried hopelessly but nobody came for her. She was told to sing to them. She was astonished

Just Kidding Course Analysis
The course continued on for a few minutes staying in the woods and on some technical terrain and
the next thing that caught my eye was another sign that said "Just Kidding", which clearly was a
response to the previous sign that said we were half way through the course. Just a few hundred feet
away was the mile two marker, which clearly meant we were not at the half way point yet. The
course continued on in the woods and then exited back on to pavement and a short time after was
the next obstacles, that I am going to call a series of three about six foot high step ladders to go up
and back down. After this obstacle came another brief trail sprint and up next was another angled
wall (with a rope) obstacle to climb up and over and then it was ... Show more content on

Overall Feelings and Event Rating:
The course was about five miles and a total of twenty five obstacles and a nice trail run with
challenging obstacles. The race director clearly likes walls and angled wall climbing obstacles as the
course had a bunch of them throughout, but all the obstacles were well built and the course was well
thought out.
The volunteers/staff were awesome all day and some even thanked racers for showing up, the bling
is nice, as just mentioned above, the course all though somewhat repetitive with wall obstacles was a
fun challenge so I am going to rate the event 4.8 out of 5 stars.
My one suggestion for the next race would be to add some other type of challenging and safe
obstacles like slackline obstacles that can be setup fast and anywhere on the

Headline:
One Scumbag Lures Two Girls to Help Him Find a Lost Jacket in the Woods. What Happened Next
Shocked Everyone.
Summary:
A strange, middle–aged man tried to lure two girls to come into the woods with him. He told them
that he had lost his jacket and needed help. The evil plan could have succeeded, but the heroic
actions of a local resident changed everything.
Introduction:
Tracy Berry and Carrie Hird loved to play at the local park. Whenever it was sunny outside, they
would beg their parents to go play. Since they lived in a safe neighborhood, the parents thought that
the girls would be fine at the park. It was a cold, sunny autumn day, and the girls wanted to have
some fun. There would be other parents and children at the park, so no one thought that the girls
would have any problems.
Ecstatic, the two girls walked to the park together. They ran around the playground for hours
together. Then, they started to get a little bored. They normally stayed around the playground, but
there were plenty of walking trails in the park. Tracy and Carrie started to wander around the park.
On the edge of the park, there was a large, wooded area. As Tracy and Carrie approached the woods,
a man walked up to him. He was wearing just a T–shirt and jeans, which was surprisingly little for
the chilly weather.
The man approached the girls and asked if they could help him. He said that he had lost his jacket in
the woods and needed some help finding it.

Miner's River: A Narrative Fiction
Walking near the bank of the Miner's River, Virginia took a long drag from her cigarette and blew
smoke through her nostrils, a skill she learned in the second grade. Back then, she'd snatch half–
smoked cigarettes from her father's ashtrays and stuff them into her socks to smoke later. Casting a
rock, she watched as it skipped one, two, three times before slipping below the water's surface.
Overlapping ripples expanded and blurred into tiny crests before washing against the riverbank.
Gathering two stones, she ran her hands over them, but dropped them without interest. Since
midnight, muddled thoughts had left her with a gnashing migraine that tore open flesh and shook
meat from the bone. As before, the murky river held her glare without ... Show more content on

Throwing a stone across the water, he made seven perfect dashes and smiled to himself. Circular
waves spread and combined and he threw another, but too heavy it jumped only four times and sank.
Bern grunted, then swept the bank before another stone caught his eye. Unearthing it, he scraped dirt
away with his uneven nails, then washed the stone in the water. When rotated, the stone's facets
glistened tiny beads of light. Dropping it into his shirt pocket, he hurried after her voice, tracing the
sloping trail overlooking the river and leading up into the woods. At the top of the clearing he
glanced in the direction of her voice and spied her periwinkle dress from behind a cottonwood tree.
"Ah, you found me!" Virginia giggled.
"Well, you were singing, silly goose, 'course I was gonna find you. Look at what else I found," he
said, pulling the stone from his pocket. "How much you think we can get for it?"
Holding it under a narrow shaft of light, he pointed out the gleaming flecks within the crevices and
her eyes brightened. For all she knew a fortune was held in his hand, and as she dreamed of what
she could buy Bern caught himself gazing at her as though for the first time. The breeze blew

Evolution Of The Modern Era Of Skateboarding
Prior to the days of Dogtown, skateboarding was dead. However, as soon as the Dogtown culture
came alive, so did the modern era of skateboarding. As a result of surfing, the California drought of
the 1970s, and the film work and photography of Craig Stecyk, this once dead sport has risen from
the dead for good. It all began in the early 1970s when Dogtown, located in Venice Beach,
California was home to a secret surfing cove. This area was constantly populated by pyromaniacs,
drug addicts, artists, and of course surfers', but most importantly the Zephyr surf team. This team
was known as "The mafia of the waves" (Peralta, 2002). While surfing on the coast, this team
relentlessly practiced new and unique moves on the beachfront. Little did they ... Show more

Each one helped to expand growth for the extreme sport already growing in popularity.
First off, the accident of architecture was inevitable. As years went on, the minds and creativity of
skaters was bound to evolve. The boys from 'Dogtown' did just that. With reference to my second
point, these skaters took advantage of Mother Nature. When the California drought of the 1970s
occurred, they made use of the architecture that was not being used. Seaside pools became more
than just an empty unusable piece of land built underground, but a bowl for skaters to develop their
innovation for the future of the sport (Hayes, 2005).
The availability of television time also had an impact on the rise of skate. While the status of
skateboarding was taking off, so was television and sport. The 1980s marked the introduction of
innumerable network options (Cable's Story, 2015). Not long after in the mid 1990s, the X Games
kicked off and included skateboarding as one of its activities. From that point on the skateboarding
market continued to flourish as more and more television shows came out about skating, along with
the creation of video game such as Tony Hawk's Pro

Analysis Of Stacy Peralta 's Film, Lords Of Dogtown And Z...
I started skateboarding when I was eleven years old. In 2010, when I was thirteen years old, I met
Tony Alva at Berkeley Skatepark. At the time, I did not really know who he was except that he was
a former professional skateboarder. Later that night, I went on my computer and did research about
who he was and that is when I found out about the Dogtown skate crew. All of the information that I
gathered that night changed my life forever. I had scene both Dogtown films, Lords of Dogtown and
Dogtown and Z–Boys. I rarely ever read the opening or closing credits, so I had never known that
Stacy Peralta wrote the screenplay for the former and was a co–writer and director for the latter. For
my final essay, I chose to explore Stacy Peralta's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, it is not very noticeable, the film is divided into multiple sections. The first section covers
the history of the part of the city considered to be Dogtown, Venice. It provides history about how
Dogtown used to flourish financially and then how it became to be the low income, drug–ridden
neighborhood that the Zephyr team came from. The next section provides the audience with history
about the Zephyr surf shop and the shop's team. Many of the team riders were latchkey kids and
came from broken homes, so the team became their family. They surfed and skated together 24/7.
The third section, gives us a look into what the skateboarding scenes like in the 1960s.
Skateboarding has become popular in the 1950s, but was only looked at as a fad, which eventually
was the cause of its demise by the mid 1960s. When skateboarding reemerged in the 1970s and
gained a national audience again, many skaters were stuck in the skateboarding style of the 1950s
and 1960s skateboarders. This information helps us understand how the Z–Boys stood out from the
crowd and how their style of skateboarding caught everyone by surprise. The next section refers to
how the Z–Boys incorporated their surf influence into their skateboarding style. Originally, they
were riding clay

The Chad / Cameroon Pipeline
The groups that fall along the Chad/ Cameroon pipeline worked at levels of normal economy to the
degree that livelihoods around these groups to a great extent relied on upon the woodland for a wide
mixed bag of woods items. These chasing and angling groups relied on upon the woodland for
kindling, building materials, honey, restorative plants and bramble meat. All household fuel wood
was gathered from the timberland, the most supported species being Carapa, Grandiflora and Nuxia
Congesta. Many building materials including shafts, bamboo and filaments were reaped from the
woods. They additionally depended on angling extractions for supportability (Pegg, 2005). The
backwoods and the water locales likewise held extraordinary social essentialness to the individuals
who every once in a while performed customary ceremonies around some of these common
destinations to conciliate their progenitors and dodge regular catastrophes. Horticulture around the
Pygmy and Bantu Communities along the pipeline was truly not standardized but rather the
propensity to depend on the indigenous habitat was high (Agrawal, 2003).
The groups ousted by the pipeline undertaking worked at essential levels of generation that their
regular woods were the most fundamental component of creation. These groups couldn 't be isolated
from their common habitat. The start of the pipeline task and removal of these Bantu groups from

Personal Narrative : My Favorite Horror Character For...
I knew I wanted to be my favorite horror character for Halloween, but I didn't expect the costume to
come to life... It all started last week on Halloween. I went to the store to get my costume. I was
going to be a Werewolf, my favorite horror character. I found the perfect mask, and the perfect plan
to scare my friend Sola. I never knew the horror that would soon await me the next day. When I got
home, I put the costume in my closet. And I got ready for bed, for I got home around 9:00. When I
woke up the next morning, My room was a mess! Things were everywhere. I then saw my costume
in the floor. I thought "It could've been only one person: My little sister." I ran over to her room and
she was not there. Then I forgot that it could not have been her for she was at a sleepover at her
friend's house.
There was no other way my room could've been trashed. Perhaps my cat got in my room? So I
hurried downstairs to eat breakfast. After breakfast I hurried to my bus stop. Along the way my
friend Sola came, she missed her stop which was the one before mine so she came over here in
hopes she was not too late. I was happy to see her. We walked to my stop together. On the way she
constantly talked about how much she knew about werewolves. As soon as we got there we heard
the familiar hum of the bus engine and got on the bus. At school we read horror stories, they all
seemed silly.
After school I started to clean my room only to figure out that my cat, Aryah, was clawing at my
halloween costume! I quickly started to grab my cat and when I picked her up she looked at me with
such fearful eyes that I knew something was wrong. Before I could question what must of happened,
I heard the door open. My sister had came back from her sleep over. Seeing my room trashed she
had asked what happened. I told her everything and she said that my costume must of scared Aryah.
Later I went to get into my costume, and when I headed to my room to find it I heard noises in my
room. Seeing my cat hiding by my side I got confused. I have no other pets execpt our fish which
can't make such noise. Peeking through the keyhole through my door I did not see anything. So I

This morning I was walking through the woods. The leaves and trees brushing up against my long

so I walk through it. It has beautiful scenery and so many gorgeous animals as you walk into it.
Summer is coming to an end and the leaves are starting to change into bright colors, which makes
the whole view prettier. Then, all of the sudden I come upon something amazing and shiny, and it
catches my eye so I go right over to it. I walk over to the shiny key I just noticed as I was walking
through the woods. It looks like a key to a huge house more like a castle like you would see in
movies. The key is in excellent condition, it looks like it has never been touched or used before. So,
I take the key with me and keep walking through the woods, and I come across a fancy cup. It is
shaped like a tea cup but it looks very expensive, it is a very nice glass cup and is a great shape as
well as the key. It is a very shiny glassy white cup with beautiful sparkling roses on it. So, now I
have the mysterious sliver key, and the glassy white cup. All of the sudden, I come across an old
beatdown cabin that also catches my eye. As I walk up to the cabin I remember I have the key and I

lived a fancy lifestyle. Everything she owned all together was worth a fortune. But she lived this
fancy life because of her husband Charles who was a very wealthy lawyer. Helen originally came
from a ghetto type of family and grew up in the "hood". She didn't always have a lot of money or

their home and told Helen to leave. As she refused, Charles eventually dragged her out of the
house and left her outside on the doorstep with a U–Haul truck outside waiting for her with all of
her belongings. He abandoned her in the worst way a man could abandon his wife. She had

Anthropology Vs Psychology : Anthropology Versus Psychology
Many things can happen during childhood, some events much more extreme than others. This
reminded me of the passage "Child Custody: Anthropology versus Psychology" from the short story
Notes from an Expert Witness. Many households experience a divorce some can be easy and
painless, and others can have a large impact on a child's life. My family fell under that fifty percent,
and for better, or worse it has sculpted my childhood and made me who I am today. It all started
with typical fighting between parents, nothing major. Soon fights got worse, and the child custody
battle began, and this is when my life began to change. It all began with family feuds. I was in third
grade, going into fourth when the fights started appearing. I figured they had been going on longer,
but this is when they could no longer hide it from my sister and I. It started with short disputes and
nothing too extreme, as time passed the fights only got worse and more frequent. It went from my
dad sleeping on the couch, to living in our basement, and then to moving onto our boat. The
arguments caused issues for myself as well. I was losing sleep because at this age nothing could be
worse than your parents splitting up, even if it was for the best. It was a very stressful environment
so it was hard for me to get homework done. As the separation ran its course, it took a big chunk out
of my confidence at that age. Williams 2

coping with or understanding their current situations. No matter how intricate or complex human
nature is, we, as humans, still use nature and the colors presented in nature to explain events or

The land on which Hester's cabin lies is also a direct parallel to Hester and her life. The test states, "
It had been built by an earlier settler, and abandoned, because the soil about it was too sterile for
cultivation," (Hawthorne 121). This quotation proves that the land was deemed infertile and no one
believed that anything could be grown. However, Hester manages to grow a few small plants. Even
from a few plants, she still managed to grow something from what was given to her. This same idea
is repeated throughout her life. After, having Pearl, she was an outcast, yet she still was able to make
herself into a well known talented embroideress. She was also still able to support herself and Pearl
even though she was given nothing but shame. This proves that Hester is not what the Puritanical
society sees her as. She is more than they think she is because, just as the infertile land, she was able
to make something from nothing. Hester and Pearl's clothing and color of the clothing also reveals
their true position in society. Their strict society wears quite basic clothing which has only begun to
be adorned with Hester's embroidery. Right from the beginning, Hester shows that she is defiant, no
matter the circumstances which she is under. When she emerges from the jail, the red letter
immediately proves that she does not follow societal norms. The novel states, " On the breast of her
gown, in

I Was Born For The Woods
I was born in the woods. Technically speaking, I was born at West Side Hospital in Nashville,
Tennessee, but brought home and raised in the woods. Five years before I arrived, my parents
purchased nine acres of land in Tennessee and built a house that backed into four hundred acres of
land. It was heavily covered in trees and brush – a place where all of God's handiwork was still in its
original state. They cleared away just enough land for a house and a small yard; the rest belonged to
the wild.
From the time I could walk, the outdoors called to me. When the sun was up, I was outside
exploring, chasing wild animals, and discovering the world around me. My mom wouldn't see me
until it was time for lunch. As soon as I finished eating, I resumed my adventures until the sun
disappeared. During those excursions, I always had my older sister to accompany me. Quite often, it
was just the two of us. We didn't have a lot of friends at that time. Our family did live far away from
everyone at school, and the other parents were uncomfortable with having their children running
wild in our vast playground. Sadly, at the age of seven, we moved away from this beautiful wooden
heaven to this flat and unfamiliar city of concrete. I was initial shocked at how hard it was to make
friends. Not only did I not know how to play with other children, my strong country accent made me
somewhat of an outcast among them. In addition, I was behind the other children in learning since

Ebon: The Myth Of The Stone
Ebon awoke, with a start, to the sound of someone crying. He had had a weird dream. He dreamt
that Master Eldon, Eric, and himself were all together in his old cabin. Suddenly, Eldon drew a
beautiful sword from his scabbard. Eric saw the sword and drew his flute from his pocket. Ebon
found himself drawing an odd crystal from his pocket. The crystal was shaped like a diamond. It had
four parts coming to a square pyramid at the top. The bottom was a mirror image of the top, making
the crystal perfectly symmetrical. He recognized the crystal that he had drawn. It was a Salinum

"It's unimportant. Now you are here."
Ebon smiled gratefully. "It is a lovely night."
Ilene chuckled. "Indeed. A perfect night." She gestured to the stream. "Just look at the crystal water."
She pointed up. "And the beautiful, full moon." She spread her arms out. "And all of the trees,
bristling in the breeze."
The way Ilene talked, Ebon could notice everything that she pointed out. The water sped down the
little incline, clear as glass in the moonlight. The full moon did well in illuminating their faces. The
trees seemed to be having conversations with each other. Each one swayed as if laughing. If he
strained his ear, he could hear the faint chirping of nocturnal birds. Ebon could not help but grin
broadly. "Yes," he said, "It is all beautiful." His gaze, once again, fell onto Ilene. He was surprised to
see her eyeing him, as well. She seemed on the verge of saying something.
They suddenly both blushed and looked away. Ebon cleared his throat, and stood up. "Anyway, that
was some trick that Eric did yesterday."
Ilene almost seemed disappointed to change the subject. "Yeah, I wondered how he did it. It would
be handy for other times. My broth... Lucius, was much more powerful than last time when you

Personal Narrative : ' The Great Sun '
I was in the back seat of my car, listening to my music. I was paying little attention to my parents
who were going on and on about how this would be a great "bonding experience". "Blah
Blah...nature...blah blah...the great outdoors...", that was what I heard them babbling about. We
drove by an obstacle course with a zipline over a shiny brown mud pit. It was near a thicket of
woods.
"Maybe we could do that while we are here?" my mom asked with a hopeful look in her eyes.
"Maybe" I reply.
She turns back to her magazine, looking content.
"I'm not doing that...EVER!" I thought to myself. But who am I to burst my parents bubble? After a
few turns and hills we came upon a small little cottage. It was quaint with a thatched roof and
flowers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I decided to not even look at the living room and went to my room. It was quaint, and ugly. A
wooden four–poster bed with a flowered bedspread that looked like it belonged in a nursing home. A
very, very small closet which wouldn't even hold my shoes, let alone the rest of my clothes.
I had to make a decision; either stay in this dismal place, or go and hide in the woods.
It was an easy decision. I decided to go just into the woods but still in view of the cabin. Rip up the
pants that I hated but what my parents had made me bring, and come staggering home with some
sob story, and beg my parents to take me away from this horrible place. They'd buy it, of course, and
soon I'd be riding a plane to some beach in the Bahamas.
I left the cabin and told my parents that I was going on a walk. They believed me of course. It was
like taking candy from a baby. They were going to be berry picking on the very edge of the forest,
so I couldn't exactly stay on the edge without them seeing me and getting suspicious.
I walked a little bit more towards the center of the woods and came upon a cave. It was as black as
the night and as damp as grass in the early morning, wet with dew. It was cold, cold like the winter
wind in a field with no trees. I deeply regretted not bringing a sweatshirt.
Maybe I should have planned this out better there is a list of things I should have brought; a
sweatshirt, food, my phone, water, a

How The Setting Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find

  • 1. How The Setting Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find "A Good Man Is Hard To Find" Flannery O'Connor's " A Good Man Is Hard To Find" depicts a family's encounter with a criminal escaped from a federal penitentiary and their essential relinquishment of life. The family that the story surrounds has planned a trip to Florida for a family vacation. Knowing but unconcerned about the criminal at large, also known as the Misfit, the family voyages onward towards their destination until the trip is abruptly stopped by a totally unnecessary exploration down an unkempt, hilly and dangerous road. The dangerous road combined with the unsuspecting attack of the driver from the grand mothers cat, Pitty Sing, lands the family in a ten–foot deep ditch and in need of help. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The undefined characters of the story only seem to help accelerate the action of the story. The plot of " A Good Man Is Hard To Find" really starts to take action when the family crashes their car and in waiting for help sees a car creeping around the bend, and here O'Connor does a good job setting the tone and image. "The car continued to come on slowly, disappeared around a bend and appeared again, moving even slower, on top of the hill they had gone over. It was a big black battered hearse–like automobile. There were three men in it." (308) When O'Connor describes the vehicle as black and hearse–like you can tell instantly that the family is in trouble and the Misfit is about to be met. In the eyes of the narrator the family does not know their in trouble until the men exiting the car show they have guns and the grandmother identifies one of the men as the Misfit. Identifying the Misfit may have been the most crucial mistake the grandmother made the whole story, because due to her identifying the man she may have set her family up for death. The grandmother's son, Bailey, recognizes this and after the Misfit has been recognized and the story says, " Bailey turned his head sharply and said something to his mother that shocked even the children. • 5. My Life I sprinted. I sprinted until my lungs burned, and my legs just couldn't move anymore. I began to quiver with exhaustion. I knew he was still back there. Somewhere, hiding with his knife. Watching. I'd barely escaped with my life, he knew it and I knew it. I knew he was still on to me. Waiting until the perfect moment for when I wasn't quite paying enough attention. He'd catch me off guard. I peer around, looking for a quick escape route through the tall dark trees. Granted, I could hide, but I'm terrified that he'll find me, and I'll have no chance to run. Today started out just like any other day. Little did I know it could be my last. I woke up this morning, at seven as usual. I guess you could say that something felt...well abnormal. The hair on the back of my neck was standing up for nearly the entire day. I never felt quite alone. The day continued on with unusual occurrences such as hearing my name being whispered, and doors in my home being open, when I distinctly remember closing them before going downstairs. As for why I was here in the first place, I guess you could say that it was quite foolish. I thought that I saw one of my childhood friends approach the trail head to a near abandoned hiking site. I followed her to see if she wanted some company. I never got the chance to ask. As I began to walk in the general direction that she did, I heard someone walking behind me. This took me by surprise, and I spun around. And peered into the distance. I thought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. I Should Start My Story At The End Of A Mystery suppose I should start my story at the beginning. I mean, it wouldn 't make sense to start it at the end or in the middle, now would it? It 's like if you turn the TV on right at the end of a mystery show and you learn who the killer is. Well, you 're not going to wait around till that episode plays again to see the beginning. You already know who the killer is, so it 's not a mystery anymore! No point at all. Anyways, I 'll just start at the beginning, which just happens to be when I was out in the woods one day, looking for something to eat. I spotted a few lousy rabbits and squirrels, but I just didn 't feel like chasing them. You have to feel like chasing something to chase it, and I just didn 't feel like it. I really didn 't. I was really hungry though. My stomach was growlin' and all. It was about that time that I caught a whiff of something in the air. Something like cinnamon. I followed it, using my incredible sense of smell and all, until I came upon a girl wearing a red cloak, walking on a path through the woods. She had stopped and was picking the small green flowers on the side of the path. Sitting besides her was a basket that was practically overflowing with marvelous smells. My stomach growled again. I patted down my grey fur and smelled my breath by breathing into my paw and sniffing. I tied up the side flaps on my red hunting hat that had holes cut in it for my ears to poke through. After picking a few more leaves from my fur, I deemed myself worthy to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Autobiography Of Autobiography I was running down the muddy street of Buffalo hearing some sneers and mothers telling their children to "look away from that black thing." I'm somewhat used to the ignorance of others even after I came north. I expected there to be less sneering and cursing at me in the north, well in comparison, it is less than if I was in the south. I quickly slow down as I approach the gorgeous marble library in central Buffalo. When I enter the library I see the ample arches, marble flooring and a stunning array of books. Ironically, it is extremely loud for a library, in which a writer just ended his book signing. As everyone else files out of the enormous library, I am just arriving to the history section of library to research a recent document on slavery. As I search for this document a white man approached me. He is an average sized man with bright orange hair and deep brown eyes. His mustache was as sophisticated as his suit. As he hovers up to me he whispers to me "what are you looking for?" I respond "why are you whispering sir?" The man than laughs and responds "To respect the institution that is a library." He then says "My name is Mark, can I help you find what you are looking for or recommend you something to your taste?" I reply back "I am only here to get out of the rain and research a document for my autobiography." Mark smirks a little and answers well have I got the book to keep your mind elsewhere." Mark then hands me this large green book that says in big letters "The adventures of Huckleberry Finn." As Markl walks away, he turns back and says "I happen to know the author, I'm sure he would agree with me that you will love it." As I finally find my document, I see that it is still raining out so I decide to listen to Mark and read this novel. I grab the book, find a seat in the corner, and flip to the beginning of the book. I begin to get lost in the intricate details of the book. Slowly time starts to pass me by. I begin to yawn and struggle to keep my eyes open. I close my eyes just to take a quick nap, but what was supposed to be a quick nap will become a long slumber. I suddenly wake up in a blur, hearing the soft sound of a river and feeling the heat of the southern summer. The rocking back and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She shared a kind smile with me emphasizing her rosey cheeks warming my own despite the winter snow falling around us. My little sister Sara squealed with glee as our shepherd pup Macy hopped around her, wagging her tail so fast the entire back end of her body would follow in sync. Grandma took a deep breath as she rewrapped her rope around her waist, "How does a cup of tea sound?" her voice was soft & kind, "I think it is time we all should get some rest." I answered glancing back at sara who was still squealing with joy as she watched the pup continue to roll in the glistening pillow of snow surrounding the small patch of land we call home. She nodded in agreement and reached her arm out for me to support her inside. I grabbed the icy doorknob and turned it slowly before the winter wind pushed it inside with a slam, revealing our small one room cabin, full of candles all shapes & sizes. On the walls children's artwork was seen almost everywhere you darted your eyes, colors filled the room bringing cheer to anyone that was to enter, in contrast to the many war diaries I got from my grandma. She gained this name thanks to her pale auburn hair, her smattering of freckles, and her birth season, fall. As a child, Autumn grew a fine woven crown intricately designed of thin vines, delicate flowers, and dainty leaves. As the seasons changed, her crown did too. In the summer her head was topped with an abundance of color from the vibrantly hued hibiscus, azaleas, and roses that bloomed there. As summer succumbed to fall, the flowers wilted and died, but the leaves, that intertwined with the flowers in the earlier season, grew larger and gave way to vivid reds, yellows, oranges, and purples. Again, the rustling came, this time accompanied by the sharp crack of a twig breaking under the large foot of a heavy animal. Autumn, quite frightened now, turned on her heel and swiftly made her way towards the edge of the forest. The rustling followed close behind her. Too terrified to turn and face her stalker, she sped up her pace, a bead of nervous sweat trickling down her face. As she began to see the first glimpses of her cottage through the trees, a large, leather gloved, hand wrapped itself around her wrist, causing her to drop her woven basket. Before she could cry for help, another hand, just like the first, set itself over her mouth, reducing her screams to muffled whimpers. The original Dogtown and Z–boys, directed by Stacy Peratla in 2001 is the documentary/ biography version of the film that explains the history of the "Z– boys" and where they grew up. Lords of Dogtown, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, is the portrayal of the surfing/ skate team and what they did to mold the business and sport into what it is today. The original version of the story is historically interesting because it has interviews with the z–boys themselves and other people that contributed to making history. It gives you the genuine background of the streets where they collaborated their skateboarding, and the effort and passion that went into their athletics. Even though the remake is the depiction of the life style that made skateboarding culture what it is today, I would like to say I enjoy the second version more than the documentary version. ... We were out of the familiar subdivision. In fact, I wasn't exactly sure on how to get back home. We all had goosebumps on our arms because the wind had begun to pick up. I looked at my other two friends Elizabeth and Kristen, they were both shivering. I had to make a decision. Taking a shortcut through a small path in through the dark woods. For a moment, I thought where I was, and remembered that I have traveled back in time to the Middle Ages. I didn't know why I was on a bed, or how. Soon after I have done dressing up, I noticed that there was a little girl right next to the door, peeking in the room. Her sister came into the room, and told me that she found me on this street that people usually don't go. She gave me a bread to eat, while I observe the room. After eating the bread, I asked if I could see their mother. And this was the most surprising. The girl told me that SHE was the mother! I couldn't believe what I've heard, so I asked her again. Same answer. She told me that it was normal to marry early and give birth early. I asked her age, and answered 14. Oh god. I'm 17. She's younger than me and is already married. And given birth. And she said it's normal. I guess medieval girls are so early on stuff. Well the rest of the day was peaceful. I couldn't sleep because of my intense hunger. I was laying next to Gretel when I heard father. He was complaining with mother about how to deal with the lack of food. That's when I heard mother say "We will take the children out into the woods and light a fire for them. We will go to work and leave them." Most of the rest of the conversation was muffled but we heard all we needed to know. Gretel was crying and I was trying to soothe her. That night was the beginning to our tale. I snuck into the night looking for anything that could lead us back once in the woods. I found the brightest pebbles I could find and put them in my coat pocket. Once back in bed, I said to Gretel that god will protect us. We were woken the following morning by mother yelling "Get up, you sluggards." Just as they discussed the night before, we were brought into the woods. They didn't see me dropping the pebbles on the way. There was one time that scared me when they asked me what I was doing so I made bluff on the spot. When we were as far away as they wanted they built a fire and left. We went to bed and waited tell midnight and saw that my plan worked. I led us back to the house using the pebbles and knocked on the door. Father was so pleased to see us and was sad. On the contrary, mother was angry and she scolded us for being late. Not to long after, the land went bad again and we were running out of food Most things repeated. Father and mother argued about getting rid of us again. They were to bring us farther into the woods and leave us. Once they were asleep, I was going to go and get more pebbles but the door was locked. Because it was the all I could do at the time, I comforted my sister. Dropping it into his shirt pocket, he hurried after her voice, tracing the sloping trail overlooking the river and leading up into the woods. At the top of the clearing he glanced in the direction of her voice and spied her periwinkle dress from behind a cottonwood tree. "Ah, you found me!" Virginia giggled. "Well, you were singing, silly goose, 'course I was gonna find you. Look at what else I found," he said, pulling the stone from his pocket. "How much you think we can get for it?" Holding it under a narrow shaft of light, he pointed out the gleaming flecks within the crevices and her eyes brightened. For all she knew a fortune was held in his hand, and as she dreamed of what she could buy Bern caught himself gazing at her as though for the first time. • 45. Evolution Of The Modern Era Of Skateboarding Prior to the days of Dogtown, skateboarding was dead. However, as soon as the Dogtown culture came alive, so did the modern era of skateboarding. As a result of surfing, the California drought of the 1970s, and the film work and photography of Craig Stecyk, this once dead sport has risen from the dead for good. It all began in the early 1970s when Dogtown, located in Venice Beach, California was home to a secret surfing cove. This area was constantly populated by pyromaniacs, drug addicts, artists, and of course surfers', but most importantly the Zephyr surf team. This team was known as "The mafia of the waves" (Peralta, 2002). While surfing on the coast, this team relentlessly practiced new and unique moves on the beachfront. Little did they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each one helped to expand growth for the extreme sport already growing in popularity. First off, the accident of architecture was inevitable. As years went on, the minds and creativity of skaters was bound to evolve. The boys from 'Dogtown' did just that. With reference to my second point, these skaters took advantage of Mother Nature. When the California drought of the 1970s occurred, they made use of the architecture that was not being used. Seaside pools became more than just an empty unusable piece of land built underground, but a bowl for skaters to develop their innovation for the future of the sport (Hayes, 2005). The availability of television time also had an impact on the rise of skate. While the status of skateboarding was taking off, so was television and sport. The 1980s marked the introduction of innumerable network options (Cable's Story, 2015). Not long after in the mid 1990s, the X Games kicked off and included skateboarding as one of its activities. From that point on the skateboarding market continued to flourish as more and more television shows came out about skating, along with the creation of video game such as Tony Hawk's Pro ... In 2010, when I was thirteen years old, I met Tony Alva at Berkeley Skatepark. At the time, I did not really know who he was except that he was a former professional skateboarder. Later that night, I went on my computer and did research about who he was and that is when I found out about the Dogtown skate crew. All of the information that I gathered that night changed my life forever. I had scene both Dogtown films, Lords of Dogtown and Dogtown and Z–Boys. I rarely ever read the opening or closing credits, so I had never known that Stacy Peralta wrote the screenplay for the former and was a co–writer and director for the latter. For my final essay, I chose to explore Stacy Peralta's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although, it is not very noticeable, the film is divided into multiple sections. The first section covers the history of the part of the city considered to be Dogtown, Venice. It provides history about how Dogtown used to flourish financially and then how it became to be the low income, drug–ridden neighborhood that the Zephyr team came from. The next section provides the audience with history about the Zephyr surf shop and the shop's team. Many of the team riders were latchkey kids and came from broken homes, so the team became their family. They surfed and skated together 24/7. The third section, gives us a look into what the skateboarding scenes like in the 1960s. Skateboarding has become popular in the 1950s, but was only looked at as a fad, which eventually was the cause of its demise by the mid 1960s. When skateboarding reemerged in the 1970s and gained a national audience again, many skaters were stuck in the skateboarding style of the 1950s and 1960s skateboarders. This information helps us understand how the Z–Boys stood out from the crowd and how their style of skateboarding caught everyone by surprise. The Chad / Cameroon Pipeline The groups that fall along the Chad/ Cameroon pipeline worked at levels of normal economy to the degree that livelihoods around these groups to a great extent relied on upon the woodland for a wide mixed bag of woods items. These chasing and angling groups relied on upon the woodland for kindling, building materials, honey, restorative plants and bramble meat. All household fuel wood was gathered from the timberland, the most supported species being Carapa, Grandiflora and Nuxia Congesta. Many building materials including shafts, bamboo and filaments were reaped from the woods. They additionally depended on angling extractions for supportability (Pegg, 2005). The backwoods and the water locales likewise held extraordinary social essentialness to the individuals who every once in a while performed customary ceremonies around some of these common destinations to conciliate their progenitors and dodge regular catastrophes. It all started last week on Halloween. I went to the store to get my costume. I was going to be a Werewolf, my favorite horror character. I found the perfect mask, and the perfect plan to scare my friend Sola. I never knew the horror that would soon await me the next day. When I got home, I put the costume in my closet. And I got ready for bed, for I got home around 9:00. When I woke up the next morning, My room was a mess! Things were everywhere. I then saw my costume in the floor. I thought "It could've been only one person: My little sister." I ran over to her room and she was not there. Then I forgot that it could not have been her for she was at a sleepover at her friend's house. There was no other way my room could've been trashed. Perhaps my cat got in my room? So I hurried downstairs to eat breakfast. After breakfast I hurried to my bus stop. Along the way my friend Sola came, she missed her stop which was the one before mine so she came over here in hopes she was not too late. I was happy to see her. We walked to my stop together. On the way she constantly talked about how much she knew about werewolves. As soon as we got there we heard the familiar hum of the bus engine and got on the bus. At school we read horror stories, they all seemed silly. After school I started to clean my room only to figure out that my cat, Aryah, was clawing at my halloween costume! I quickly started to grab my cat and when I picked her up she looked at me with such fearful eyes that I knew something was wrong. Before I could question what must of happened, I heard the door open. My sister had came back from her sleep over. Seeing my room trashed she had asked what happened. I told her everything and she said that my costume must of scared Aryah. Later I went to get into my costume, and when I headed to my room to find it I heard noises in my room. The morning breeze blowing through my long luscious hair. There is a dark path ahead so I walk through it. It has beautiful scenery and so many gorgeous animals as you walk into it. Summer is coming to an end and the leaves are starting to change into bright colors, which makes the whole view prettier. This reminded me of the passage "Child Custody: Anthropology versus Psychology" from the short story Notes from an Expert Witness. Many households experience a divorce some can be easy and painless, and others can have a large impact on a child's life. My family fell under that fifty percent, and for better, or worse it has sculpted my childhood and made me who I am today. It all started with typical fighting between parents, nothing major. Soon fights got worse, and the child custody battle began, and this is when my life began to change. It all began with family feuds. I was in third grade, going into fourth when the fights started appearing. I figured they had been going on longer, but this is when they could no longer hide it from my sister and I. Five years before I arrived, my parents purchased nine acres of land in Tennessee and built a house that backed into four hundred acres of land. It was heavily covered in trees and brush – a place where all of God's handiwork was still in its original state. They cleared away just enough land for a house and a small yard; the rest belonged to the wild. From the time I could walk, the outdoors called to me. When the sun was up, I was outside exploring, chasing wild animals, and discovering the world around me. My mom wouldn't see me until it was time for lunch. As soon as I finished eating, I resumed my adventures until the sun disappeared. During those excursions, I always had my older sister to accompany me. Quite often, it was just the two of us. We didn't have a lot of friends at that time. Our family did live far away from everyone at school, and the other parents were uncomfortable with having their children running wild in our vast playground. Sadly, at the age of seven, we moved away from this beautiful wooden heaven to this flat and unfamiliar city of concrete. I was initial shocked at how hard it was to make friends.
