Remember the Titans – Five Step Analysis
Plot Summary
In April of 1971, the United States Supreme Court issued a ruling that ended all stateimposed
segregation in public schools. This was the same year that T. C. Williams High School located in
Alexander Virginia was integrated. This is the setting for the movie Remember the Titans, staring
Denzel Washington who portrays Herman Boone the head coach of the Titans.
Herman Boone is brought in as an assistant coach to join the all white coaching staff. When Herman
Boone is appointed head coach over a wining white coach he is reluctant to accept because the same

He did it without looking for gratitude or glory. He is even able to complement Coach Boone at the
end of the summer camp for his fine work.
Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell are the unofficial leaders of the white and black teams
respectively. They fall into this position because of their athleticism, personal convictions, and need
to protect their "brothers". Gerry Bertier ultimately becomes team leader by learning to set aside his
prejudice and focus on the team regardless of color. The relationship that develops between Bertier
and Campbell lead the way for most of the team to come together.

Issues
The leaders are forced to face many issues that are poised to tear the team apart:
· Herman Boone appointed over qualified winning white coach
· Conflicting leadership styles between Herman Boone and Bill Yoast
· Racism in the south at the beginning of the 1970s
· Divided team due to black and white being forced to play together
· Divided coaching staff due to black and white being forced to coach together
· Machinations of School board and other governing bodies
· Coach Boone suspicious of Bill Yoast possibly sabotaging his efforts
· Coach Boone sacrificing too much for the sake of winning
· Coach Boone putting aside his pride to accept help from white

Analysis Of Hajime Isayama's Novel 'Attack On Titan'
Graphic artist Hajime Isayama's best selling novel, Attack on Titan, illustrates the story of a walled
community that protects its citizens from gigantic humanoids – Titans – that consume humans
(Isayama, 2014). Hot headed 13–year–old Eren Jäger features as the main protagonist, who pledges
his life to the military at the age of 11 to defeat the Titans. Eren's noble dedication is fueled by the
multiple traumas he experienced in his childhood. From enduring family risk factors such as
becoming orphaned at age 8, to community risk factors such as lack of support for an overzealous
pre–teen soldier, Eren exhibits increased vulnerability to developing multiple types of psychopathy.
On the other hand, Eren eventually finds himself a tight knit group of friends and new parental
figure, which together produce protective factors such as supportive relationships, as well as
physical and psychological safety. An analysis of Eren's intra– and inter– personal experiences
suggests his likelihood to developing several types of psychopathy.
The multidimensional integrative approach to psychopathology indicates Eren's vulnerability to
developing psychological disorders exists in biological, psychological, emotional, and
developmental categories (Barlow et al., 2017). The novel hints at Eren's allegedly dead father, Dr.
Grisha Jäger exhibiting elements of schizophrenia as he hallucinated about Titans from working as a
doctor during Titan battles (Isayama, 2014). Subsequently, the diathesis

Remember The Titans Synthesis
Remember the Titans is a football movie that was filmed in the year 2000. Although this movies
main plot is surrounded by football it has a much deeper meaning than just a game. Remember the
Titans is based on the true story of coach Herman Boone played by Denzel Washington and what he
did for the young men of T.C. Williams High School in the year 1971. Given the huge task of
integrating the football team of a small school in Virginia, Coach Boone and assistant coach Bill
Yoast played by Will Patton begin by introducing their two captains, Gerry Bertier and Julius
Campbell. News of the new head coach and integration of the school had sent the town into a
complete uproar. Having black students walk the halls with white students hadn't been an option
until now and to add to the tension of integration in the school current head coach Bill Yoast was
forced to step down to assistant after having a hall of fame worthy career for the T.C. Williams
Titans. Coach Herman Boone was replacing him in hopes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Instead of rolling over and allowing them to dictate the game they continue to fight through
adversity and are aided by coach Yoasts' stern message he gives to the officials showing his players
that he will fight for them when they are treated unfairly. This message that he sends gets the
officials on the right path and begin to call the game fairly and the titans win and proceed to the
championship game. Co–captain Gerry Burtier gets caught up in the celebration and is involved in a
severe car accident that leaves him paralyzed from the waist down just a week before the state
championship game. The titans come together as a team battle through adversity one last time for
their captain and come out victorious and are crowned state

Titan Exploration: Past to Future
Sci–fi Paper Synopsis: It is the distant future, and the human race knows pretty much everything
there is to know about Saturn's 6th moon, Titan. The Huygens probe was the first man made object
to pierce the thick atmosphere of Titan, landing on the surface in 2005. From this mission, some
light was shed upon the mysterious body of Titan, and it was found to be an "alien Earth", with lakes
and seas and even active meteorology and surface processes (O'Connor, 2015). At first, it was
thought that life would not have been able to live in the extreme cold temperatures of Titan, but as
time went on and humans evolved, our understanding of life and its infinite possibilities grew too.
Now, there are camps on Titan devoted to creating a new form of life– a new humanoid species. If
this were to come to fruition, would the new creations serve us, be our equal, or think of themselves
as our superiors? Will big corporations gain control over all the possibilities that come with the
creation of life? Where is the line of how much humans can play God? Our humanity will be put to
the test in this adventure that follows the scientists stationed on Titan, their experiments, and the
mess that is 'money equals power'.
Just earlier this month, NASA and ESA celebrated the 10–year anniversary of the first Titan landing.
Huygens parachuted gently down towards an unknown ground in a

The weather is getting cooler, school is starting again and football season is in full effect. For many
communities, high school football is everything. The one in "Remember the Titans" is no
different. The year is 1971 and Alexandria, Va. is about to undergo a change. The local school board
has to integrate an all–black school with an all–white school to create T. C. Williams High School.
The whole town is put to the test, starting with the high school football team, the Titans. The man
picked to lead the team is Herman Boone. Boone is chosen as head coach over local hero coach Bill
Yoast, who had led the team to several victories. Molding this group of boys isn't going to be easy.
However, they were raised to hate each other. Boone helps the boys integrate and eventually they
learn to respect and like each other at training camp. One of the first boys to cross the line is Lewis
Lastik. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They become good friends and by the time they arrive back in Alexandria, they are all singing soul
songs only to find their parents waiting for them on opposite sides of the street. Obviously, it's going
to take the town a bit longer to accept the team's change of heart. The boys lose friends, girlfriends
and the understanding of family members over their team. It takes just about the whole length of the
movie before the town learns to accept the football team's desegregation. But when the football team
wants to go out and celebrate, they can't go and eat at the same place. The white boys had no idea
what their black teammates have to go through. Such scenes are constant reminders about how far
this country has come. There is nine–year–old Hayden Panettiere. An atypical nine–year–old girl,

Remember The Titans Essay
The film remember the titans is set in the city of Alexandria during 1971 and it is not based on a true
story. The film follows the TC Williams High School football team or titans in a perfect season,
along the way they face racial diversity and many team and personal problems. The titans are hated
by the community because they are one of the first high schools to stop segregation. The team is
hated in the beginning of the season because of this ban of segregation and also because of their new
black head coach who takes the job of the old white coach. Later the community starts to love the
team because of their dominance of the competition. This is because the old and new coach start to
become friends and set an example for the players. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the film the viewer could clearly see that Gary did not accept the idea of a non–
segregated football team. One of the most memorable turning points for Gary was when the players
were at the training camp and Gary is talking to Julius about playing selfishly and not blocking. The
camera angels in this scene really add to the felling and intensity of the film. With an almost perfect
combination of over the shoulder, two shot and close up angels. The use of this made the viewer feel
like something changed in Gary by the end of the scene, this was defiantly helped by the strong and
well–acted lines of Julius. When Gary says "see man... that's the worst attitude I ever heard" in a
heartfelt voice Julius reply's with "Attitude reflect leadership... captain" Gary's face become blank
and lifeless at this point and the viewer can easily see that he wants to change something to get the
team working together. Towards the end of the film Gary's whole perspective of a black and white
team changes. This is clear when he asked to only be visited by Julius who became his best friend.
And when the nurse says only family is allowed Gary's says "Alice are you blind... can't you see the
family resemblance... that's my brother". This scene is one of the great examples in the film showing
how the town and its people have

Scriticism In The Sirens Of Titans
Most "science fiction is rooted in the belief that through thinking human beings can indeed save the
planet and the species" and that "progress is not only possible but probable through science" (Morse
293). Dealing with themes common to most science fiction, Kurt Vonnegut's The Sirens of Titan
"explores the question of purpose in a futuristic setting" (May 35). This novel, however, contests
many presumptions upon which many science fiction foregrounds. Josh Simpson writes that by "
[us]ing irony, satire, and black humor . . . Vonnegut forces his readers to consider what it means to
be human in a chaotic, often absurd, and irrational universe (262). In fact, many scholars would
agree that The Sirens of Titan is "Vonnegut's most flamboyant novel, with its entire universe at the
mercy of the outrageous fortune" (Wolfe 968). Seconding G. K. Wolfe's idea, Lynn Buck notes that
the world of Vonnegut is a "mixture of hilarity and futility, [and] illusion" (181). ... Show more

Debunking such progressive and evolutionary beliefs, The Sirens of Titan is replete with "empty
heroics, low comedy and pointless death" (Vonnegut 2). More particularly, I argue that novel employ
themes of free will, accidents (or fortunes), time, irony, and nihilism subverting transhumanists
ideas of progress, evolution and

A Short Note On Saturn 's Moon, Titan Essay
One of Saturn's moon, Titan, possess planetary conditions unique to the solar system. It has an
incredibly thick and organically rich atmosphere and a vast number of different liquid conditions.
The numerous ways in which its atmosphere and liquids interact results in the formation of a vast
array of different organic and prebiotic molecules, making it an excellent location for the possible
development of life, despite its frigid temperatures. Understanding how life could form on Titan
would give insight regarding not only how life formed on Earth, but also to how, what ways, and
what forms life could form on other planets with conditions dissimilar from Earth, opening up the
number of planets that could be seen as hospitable to life, as well as possibly expanding the search
for life to icy moons. Titan's atmosphere and liquid conditions, surface and subsurface, its
primordial conditions, as well as Titan's frigid subzero temperatures, all place limitations on and
give new opportunities to the formation of life in ways that resemble Earth's life, but more
frequently in ways entirely different, in chemical composition, general structure, and metabolism.
However, in some ways, Titan's conditions may be too unstable and harsh for the development and
survival of life.
Titan's atmosphere is one of the key points to the possibility of life developing on Saturn's largest
moon. Its atmospheric composition is 90 percent nitrogen and its second most abundant constituent
is methane.

The Titans: Rulers Before The Olympians
The Titans: Rulers before the Olympians
The Titans were also known as the elder Gods, they ruled before they were overthrown by the
Olympians (Hunt). Gaea was the Earth goddess and the mother of all the Titans(Atsma) . She
created Ouranos by herself, then the two of them created Cyclopes, Hecatoncheires, and the twelve
Titans together (Hunt). The twelve Titans or Titanides, the female Titans were Cronos, Coeus, Crius,
Iapetus, Hyperion, Oceanus, Mnemosyne, Themis, Rhea, Theia, Phoibe, Tethys, and Gaea. The each
had their own specific role in the world (Atsma).
The Titanides are the female versions of the titans, the original gods of time, the cosmic inverse of
heaven, and the divinities of both heaven and the Tartarean pit. ... Show more content on

Mnemosyne was memory, and preservation of Earth's history. Humans and animals are able to learn
and memorize things due to her. She presided over the oracle of Trophonios at Lebadeia (Atsma,
Aaron).
The Hecatoncheires were three giants in charge of storms. They each had one hundred hands and
fifty heads. The Cyclopes were three giants with one eye in the middle of their face, who had the
power to forge the lightning–bolts of Zeus. Due to their power their father feared them. So he put all
six of them in Tartaros. Gaea did not like her children being in Tartaros, so she asked her other sons
to overthrow their father (Atsma).
Five of the six Titan's took part in the overthrowing of their father. Oceanus was the only one not to
take part in the overthrowing of his father (Atsma). He was the Titan God of Earth's freshwater
(Hunt). He was also the god who controlled the movement of heavenly bodies, that were believed to
enter his watery realm. He was married to Tethys, the nurse, together they had Potamoi, River–
Gods, and Okeanides, nymphs of springs and fountains. Okeanos was portrayed as a bull–horned,
serpentine fish tailed god (Atsma).
As for the other five Titans, they took part in the overthrowing of their father. Four of them were
'pillars', they were to grab their father, while the other stabbed and killed their father. So they
worked together and then released their six brothers from Tartaros. Coeus was the Pillar of the

The Sirens Of Titan Essay
Over the course of Kurt Vonnegut's career, an unorthodox handling of time became one of many
signature features in his fictional works (Allen 37). Despite The Sirens of Titan (1959) being only
his second novel, this trademark is still prevalent. When delving into science fiction, it is often
helpful to incorporate ideas from other works within the genre. This concept is exemplified by the
"megatext," an aspect of science fiction that involves the application of a reader's own knowledge of
the genre to a new encounter (Evans xiii). By working within the megatext, Ursula K. Le Guin's The
Dispossessed (1974) provides an insightful avenue in exploring the handling of time and its
consequences in Vonnegut's The Sirens of Titan. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An interesting structural feature to note is that each chapter is preceded by a quotation from that
chapter. This is not unlike a prophecy and resembles Rumfoord's abilities. This use of chapter
quotations as well as the looping of the narrative could be interpreted to reflect Rumfoord's
perception of time in that "everything that ever has been always will be, and everything that ever
will be always has been" (20). There is also a significant amount of foreshadowing in that the novel
is essentially outlined during Malachi's first meeting with Rumfoord.
In The Dispossessed, time can be thought of in either a Sequential or Simultaneous manner. The
Sequential school of thought is the more concrete, familiar version in that time flows in a linear
progression. Simultaneity considers this linearity as "not...a physically objective phenomenon, but
as a subjective one" (Le Guin 221). Shevek, the protagonist, makes use of an apt comparison to
further describe the concept: It would be a little like reading a book, you see. The book is all there,
at once, between its covers. But if you want to read the story and understand it, you must begin with
the first page, and go forward, always in order. So the universe would be a very great book, and we
would be very small readers. (221)
According to Shevek, where Sequence falls short is its inability to

The movie Remember the Titans (Remember the Titans) is a film that is focused around the

The team's passion for football was also constructive to the unity of the team. As Coach Boone
extended practices and demanded perfect unity, the team began to realize that previous prejudices
would yield no help to their current conditions. On the other hand it was also interesting that the
bond that the Titans were able to create was strengthened significantly, but became weak and
diminished as peers pressured for separation. Sometimes even the greatest freindships on the
football field were completely forgotten in the school hallways. My greatest take away is that true
unity cannot exist until all pride is taken away, and genuine understanding is emphasized. As the
group put off their pride, and sought to understand each other they were able to accomplish amazing
things both on the game field, in their personal relationships, and their daily lives. I liked the plot of
the movie, and the great message that it teaches. I also liked the comical scenes and relief points that
keep the movie going because it makes it esier to follow along .I think it could have been better if it
were more recent since it is an older film. Overall, the powerful message of success through

Interpersonal Conflict in Remember the Titans I choose the movie – remember the titans. It is an
inspirational movie, making my blood boiling from the beginning to the end and teaching us that we
are all equal no matter what race you are. It talks about not only the games, but also racial conflicts,
friendship and the significance of life. The story goes like that: in the early 1970s, two schools in
Alexandria Virginia integrate forming T.C. Williams High School. The Caucasian head coach of the
Titans is replaced by an African American coach from North Carolina. Tensions arise when players
of different races are forced together on the same football team. Many of these tensions are eased

between the couples and creates the potential for further tension and even more conflict. After a
time, the man just cannot endure his wife's ignoring him. When it comes to managing the conflict,
the man comes to a psychological consultant, who possesses expert power, and talks about the

The Story of Titans Remember the titans is a story following a town, a school, and a football team
divide by race. For most of the movie we follow two men coach bill yoast a white male struggling
because he was replaced as head coach by are other main character coach Herman boone a African
American coach who won the job as head coach. We also look at the life's of Gary and Julie's
Campbell who at first were rivals because of race but the to built a bond that could never be broken.
First the boys go to camp and on first day their is a fight between the black and the white players.
Coach Boone after the fight realizes that he not only has to win games but also make sure the team
is not divided by race. Boys learn to be a team after coach Boone gives one of the best speeches of
any coach in movie that anyone has ever heard. The boys are finally starting to be a team and friends
but they face their biggest challenge when they return from camp and the entire town is divided into
black vs white but boys are somewhat still together. After they barely win a game where they know

and community were angrily divided by the federal integration order, and the volatility of the
situation was heightened by the abrupt demotion of Coach Yoast and Boone's promotion to Head
Coach. In this movie Coach Boone is on a mission to try to get the white and black players to unite

This team actually started becoming a team after Coach Boone gave an inspiring speech at the
graveyard in Gettysburg. That is when a team actually started to form. The speech was about the
Civil War that happened at Gettysburg. He told the players to hear closely, because if they do, they
can hear people saying things about killing their own brothers. He told the players that they have to
stop fighting with one another and start thinking of each other as brothers and come together as a
team and start seeing life in a different perspective. After that, they had plenty of practices and
worked hard until they learned how to get along, and they finally did that. It was beautiful to watch
them get along and become a team. They were becoming friends and would joke with one another in
the locker rooms. Mostly everyone get along. Julius and Gary were becoming great friends, which
was hard to believe, because they hated each other at first. Later on, they got a new player. He had
long hair, and they called him "Sunshine". He was a quarterback and was the newest player on the
mighty Titans. The team thought he was gay but he really wasn't. The team was ready to come back
home after all the hard practices at camp. The town still didn't accept the fact that these two races
were going to play on the same team. The parents of some of the players didn't like it, and the town
didn't like it. On top of that, Coach Boone had to win every game. If

Most Important Titan Gods
The Titans There are 12 first generation titans. The Titans (males) were Oceanus, Hyperion, Coeus,
Cronus, Crius and Iapetus. The Titanesses (females) were Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Rhea
and Themis. A common question asked is "who is the most important Titan god?" Hyperion is the
most important Titan god. The three most important Titan gods are Hyperion, Mnemosyne, and
Cronus.
Hyperion is the god of heavenly light. He is also thought of as the one who cycles the sun.
"Hyperion, as a Titan son of Heaven, was probably also viewed as the primal god who first ordered
the cycles of sun, moon and dawn, establishing the regular rhythm of days and months. His brother
Krios, on the other hand, presided over the ordering of the heavenly constellations and so in a
complimentary manner ordered the year and the cycle of seasons" (HYPERION). Mnemosyne is the
goddess of memory, and time. "Mnemosyne was also a goddess of time. She represented the rote
memorisation required to preserve the stories of history and the sagas of myth before the
introduction of writing. In this role she was the mother of the Mousai (Muses) who were originally
patron goddesses of poets of the oral tradition" (MNEMOSYNE). Cronus is the God of time, and
the king of all Titans. "He ruled the cosmos during the Golden Age after castrating and deposing his

Tuckman and Jensen model focuses on the development of internal relations among the team
members. There are 5 stages, Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing and Adjourning.
The movie Remember the Titans was very inspiring especially because it is based on a true story.
This movie showed all of Tuckman's 5 stages.
Stages of Group Development
The first stage is forming; this is when members get to know one another. This is one of the most
important stages. In the movie, this occurs when all of the football players are in the gym ready to
meet Coach Boone. All the different race groups were together. In this interaction, the athletes have

The conflict the teammates have will eventually help to shape their team and to work together.
The third stage is norming; this is where the establishment of rules and social relationships happen.
Slowly, they are socializing and working as a team. They are helping each other and trying to real
their goal as a team to win the football games. Julius and Gary interact, they make a great tackle and
the strong side and weak side exchange happens. They both were committing to a goal. The locker
room is where all the lively fun times were during the movie. They made jokes and this reflects that
the team is starting to interact at a social level. They would also sing together in the locker room.
Singing to songs like "Aint no mountain high enough" was a ritual and a bonding experience for the
teammates. They are getting to know one another and learn each other. They were trying to be close
together like the scene where one white player and two African American players go into a
restaurant and the African American players are refused service.
The fourth stage is performing; this stage focuses on completing the task. Coach Boone always told
the team it is about being proud of what you have accomplished, regardless of the outcome. This is
where a change in the team is really being noticed. Another example in the movie of this stage is
when the team creates a new pre–game ritual which helps create a close attachment to team
members. This is a warm–up before

The Titans Research Paper
It was very hard for football team The Titans to come together. But throughout their performances in
practice matches and in training, the Titans team of 1971 were brought together by brotherhood and
compassion.
Over a period of months, the blacks and the whites were forced to spend time with each other at a
football boot camp. They were forced to practice multiple times each day with the opposite race. It
was very hard for the players to overcome their racism and the long standing community belief that
these two races could not live together peacefully.
But as time passed, these two groups would change history.
In order to form a team the players needed to get to know one another. The first step to accomplish
this goal was to make sure that the conflict between the races no longer existed. This started on the
day they left for boot camp when Coach Boone insisted that the two buses have a combination of the
two races. He did this by separating them into defensive and offensive positions. This guaranteed a
mix of black and white players on each bus. The very next day, Louie Lastick made a move that
ensured that the race barrier could be broken. When Louie approached Julius' table he was told to go
back to his people, Louie then responded "Man, I don't have any people." This remark launched ...

There was a moment of reflection for everyone; they knew what they had to do. Later that day,

the papers. Turns out they were trying to get Coach Yoast back at the head job and forget about
Boon. After a major victory the team captain is involved in a major car wreck and was paralyzed
from the waist down. Even though they lost a lot they went on and won the state title. The movie
ends at the paralyzed players funeral a few years later. They all came back for it and were reminded
of the Titans. The historical significance in this movie had to have been all the segregation and what
went on with the desegregation. It shows how people reacted and how cruel and judgmental they
were at the time. It made me realize how much things

Remember The Titans Reflection

Remember the Titans is a film based on the true story of Coach Herman Boone, who takes on the
task of integrating a racially divided football team in order to achieve victory. In 1970, the Supreme
Court ruling in Swann v Charlotte–Mecklenburg Board of Education permits busing students to
achieve racial integration in public schools. In 1971, T. C. Williams High School hires successful,
black coach, Herman Boone as head coach to lead the school's newly integrated football team,
depriving Bill Yoast, former head coach and nominee for the Virginia High School Hall of Fame, of
the head coach position. Yoast debates pursuing opportunities elsewhere, but when most of his white
players vow to sit out the season unless he coaches, he changes his mind and stays on as Boone's
assistant and defensive coordinator. Throughout training camp and the season, Boone and Yoast's
black and white players learn to accept each other, to work together, and that football knows no race.
As they learn from each other, Boone and Yoast also learn from them and in turn, the whole town
learns from the team, the Titans. During their practices, black and white football team members
often clash in racial conflicts. The biggest fights occur between the white captain, whom also acts as
the unofficial leader for the white football players, Gerry Bertier, and black player, whom also acts
as the unofficial leader for the black football

Obstacles In The Titans
The T.C. William Titans fought and overcame many obstacles throughout the season. Some of these
obstacles included racism, the team falling apart, and biased referees. Even though all odds were
against them, the Titans pulled through and managed to win the state championship. The first, and
main obstacle that the Titans faced was racism. Racism was prevalent throughout the whole movie,
but was worst in the beginning as the team had not learned to accept each other yet. White players
and parents didn't want black players or a black coach, and many wanted to boycott T.C. Williams
for allowing it. Head coach, Herman Boone, solved this at the team's camp by forcing the players to
get to know each other, or face practice multiple times a day. Racism continued throughout the
movie, mostly from people outside of the team, but there was occasional racial tension within the
team. The Titans faced many other obstacles throughout the season, but racism was the biggest one.

In one of the Titans' games, they noticed that they were not playing together as well as they had
been previously, and that tensions were high. To combat this, the boys called a team meeting. At the
team meeting, they realized that they needed to raise the positive energy and bond a little more at
their upcoming game. To do this, they decided to sing during their usual warm–up, which had the
added benefit of distracting the other team during their warm–up. Without quickly realizing that the
team was falling apart and that they needed to do something to fix it, the Titans wouldn't have been

Greek Mythology : The Desire For Power In The Titans
In Greek mythology, there is always a perpetual notion of power. The desire for power is associated
with the father figure of a family. Furthermore, a father sets the tone for his family by setting rules
and establishing their reputation. From the beginning of time, there has been angst in losing power,
starting with the Earth and sky. Arising fear occurs when a father finds that one of his children is a
threat to his throne. It also develops when a father realizes that since he sabotaged his own father,
potentially his child could the same. Taking into consideration both of these cases, it is understood
that a male parent in ancient Greek consciousness seeks a role having power. This thirst for power
has resulted in the betrayal of wives and the attempt to destroy an upbringing of children. Through
the fatherhood of Ouranos, Cronos, and Zeus, it is clear that their role is to exercise dominance,
moreover keep away potential threats.
Without sexual love, Ouranos was birthed by Gaia, and later coupled with her. This pairing granted
Gaia twelve sons, and six daughters. Twelve of their children were known as the Titans, three were
the Cyclopes, and three others were the Hundred–Handers. Ouranos was not fearful of the Titans, or
the Cyclopes. Nonetheless, it was the Hundred–Handers whom he dreaded. In addition to having
insane strength, "A hundred hands stuck out of their shoulders, / Grotesque, and fifty heads grew on
each stumpy neck" (Hes. Theogony. ll. 151 – 152). To make

Essay on Remember The Titans
Remember The Titans Essay In the movie "Remember the Titans" by "Boaz Yakin" the character
Herman Boone, played by "Denzel Washington", is faced by a difficult challenge that is
significantly important to the movie. Boone in a sense faces a challenge of acceptance in which, by
the end of the movie, he has experienced in two noticeable ways. Boone faces the challenge of being
accepted by the community, revealing to us that he wants the community working together rather
than judging and persecuting one another. Additionally Boone fights for the acceptance and respect
of his team, The Titans, proving to them that they can indeed "make this race thing work". Boone

There are avid examples of the work he does with the football team to illustrate these principal
ideas. When the members of the football team all prepared to leave for camp, they boarded the two
busses according to their color and clearly did not want have anything to do with each other. Coach
Boone outraged by a comment from Gerry Bertier calls all the players to the front of the busses. He
orders them to pair up according to their positions on the football field, accomplishing team unity
and overcoming the first obstacle in getting the boys to work together. Also of interest are the
responses of the player's parents when they return from camp. They are surprised to see how Coach
Boone has changed them. The parents are still prejudiced however their children have changed once
again illustrating that Coach Boone, although he had not yet been accepted by the community he
managed to get the boys to work together. He had overcome his challenge. Boone fights for the
acceptance, respect and unity of his team proving that school integration, and the black and white
players can work together. By the end of the movie there are bonds formed between Bonne and both
the black and white player of The Titans. These bonds are important as we as the audience
understand that Boone has gained the acceptance and respect of Coach Yoasts team. In the first
instance before the camp Gerry Bertier claimed that "he could not play with these animals", by the

How Does Titan Affect The Life On Titan
However, if life had somehow developed in these cold and hydrophobic bodies of liquid methane
and ethane, its "surface–to–volume ratio considerations may be less constraining than at higher
temperatures in polar solvents." On Earth, lower temperatures create a more viscous solvent,
causing slower diffusion and rate of metabolism. If this applies to Titan, life there could involve
"huge (by Earth standards) and very slowly metabolizing cells." This would slow evolution down
significantly, instead having potentially longer lived organisms, especially since atmospheric tholins
reduce the radiation damage they receive significantly (Schulze–Makuch 1480–1481). Having slow
metabolic processes and slow evolutionary capabilities may not be advantageous on Titan with its
frequently changing surface liquid conditions if the life depends on being within the hydrocarbon
liquids for survival. In order to cope with the rapid changes, life on Titan could go into a form of
suspended animation while the surface liquids are in their period of evaporation and reanimate with
its return, a successful survival method for the tardigrade. Another option would be that it does not
require being in a liquid for survival, instead utilizing the "products of photolysis," aerosols and
tholins, that could cover Titan's surface "with 100–200 metres and more" (Simakov 395), as some
anaerobic bacteria on Earth are capable of fulfilling their energy and nitrogen needs through the
consumption of tholins

Stereotypes In Remember The Titans
Remember the Titans is a fantastic representation of the true story of how Coach Boone's and Coach
Yoast's team had reached the top. It is very accurate to the history as well. It also represents racism
and stereotypes very well as it shows your race doesn't matter. First of all the movie makes me feel
as I am sharing my feeling with the characters in the movie. Secondly it focuses strongly and mainly
on racism and stereotypes comparatively to Hairspray. Lastly it is more enjoyable to watch as a
movie.
Remember the Titans, it expresses the feeling in the movie as I was by their side cheering when they
had won the championship or depressed when we found out that bertier is going to be paralyzed
waist down and not be able to play football for the rest of his life. I believe it is because this movie
focuses on the moment it is at. It builds up the proper intensity that is needed for the situation. Such

Remember the Titans shows you the mentalities of the people at that time. The movie started by
showing the neighbour throwing racial terms at Coach Boone family when they had moved. Or
when on the bus, they first sat with only white on one bus and black on the other. We get the sense
of everyone's mentality and how they feel about it. And the main protagonist Coach Boone is also
spreading a stereotype. He is the victim of racism but he did say to Coach Yoast to go his daughter
dolls so she wouldn't always be at the football practices. So it doesn't only show that one side is
good and the other side is bad. It shows you the how people think at the time. But Hairspray show
you as if it is one vs one. Trassy vs the producer. How she is trying to stand her point and the
producer trying to stand her point. The one side versus another shouldn't be how we represent
racism. How remember the Titans portrays racism and stereotype is how it should be

Remember the Titans is a film that tells the story about a period of history in the United States, when
the differences between black and white people were much assumed. The black people wanted to
feel respected and not discriminated by the whites, and because of that they wanted the same rights
as the others.
In this story, for the first time, all people could attend the same high school, and this change created
many problems between students and their families.

2. What are the main character's leadership strengths (if any) and why? What are the main
character's leadership weaknesses (if any) and why?
In my opinion, coach Boone had many leadership strengths: He had his goal to make the team a
winning team, and to do that he knew he would have to overcome many obstacles, to make the
players a real team and a group of players.
To do that, he needed the capacity to motivate the team, to push them harder to achieve the goals, to
make them expect more from themselves and their teammates.
For me, one of the best moments that showed coach Boone was a very good leader was when he
Boone woke up all the players in the evening and made them run with him. He didn't just order them
to do something he knew was difficult. He did it with them. He had self–sacrificed for the team.
Coach Yoast, went to tell him that he was pushing them too hard, but Boone knew exactly what he
was doing. When he stopped the running, and gave the speech about the differences and what that
had as result, I think that speech changed the attitude between the players. That speech inspired
them to want to be more, to want to grow as a group. And in the next game, after the Capitan of the
team took the first step, they finally started to be a united team.

In the scene when Louie Lastik sits at the all black table he shows that it is possible for the two
people from different races to become friends (22:40). However, the rejection of Coach Yoast's
offensive plays (23:25) and the fight between Bertier and Campbell shows that most of the team is
not ready to commit to becoming a team.
Coach Boone's leadership in this stage is still S1. When coach Boone tells the team, "We will be
perfect in every aspect of the game" he is not giving them a choice he is dictating how they will
practice and perform (20:15). Coach Yoast demonstrates that he has shifted to S3 when he offers his
help with offensive plays, however, since Boone is still S1 he does not accept help from Yoast
(23:20).
Norming
The Titans move into the norming stage when Lastik says, "Man, I don't have any people, I'm with
everybody Julius" and his roommate Jerry Harris sticks up for him (22:15). The relationship
between Harris and Lastik is shown in two other scenes; in one of these scenes Harris volunteers to
tutor Lastik and in another when they sing the Temptations in front of the team at a meal (24:45).
Other scenes that indicate the Titans are finding their niches on the team are when Bertier and
Campbell have a bonding moment in front of the team with the "Left side" "strong side" interaction

Actors In Remember The Titans
The three actors that I have decided to identify from the movies, Remember the Titans are: Denzel
Washington, Will Patton and Wood Harris. Their classification is that Denzel Washington is
categorized as a personality actor. Will Patton is a categorized as an impersonator actor and Wood
Harris is also categorized as a personality actor as well. I fell that Denzel Washington is considered
to be a personality actor because the role or character that he plays (Coach Herman Boone) is a man
who demands perfection from his players on and off of the football field. Washington embodies the
role of the character making it hard to tell the difference between the actor and his character or role

The Sirens Of Titan
The Sirens of Titan The book I chose for my third book report is "The Sirens of Titan", a 326 page
novel by Kurt Vonnegut. I chose this book because initially the synopsis caught my interest and I
had heard a great deal about the writing of Vonnegut although, I had never actually read any of his
works. I thought, based on the theme of the story, that it would be an interesting read; despite my
tendency to read books outside of the science fiction genre, I figured I would try something new and
give this book a chance. The title is a peculiar one to me seeing as the story hardly addresses the
"sirens" in full, let alone gives enough significance to them to be worthy of the title. The sirens are
only brought up on occasion and do not add anything too vital to the story. I only have the vaguest
of ideas as to why Vonnegut would select this as his title. All I can interpret from it is that it 's a
reflection on how the protagonist cares for only insignificant and petty things like wealth and
attraction rather than any imperative and genuine world issues. The story takes place in the 22nd
century on the planets of Earth, Mars, briefly on Mercury, and on Titan, the moon of Saturn. The
story centers around Malachi Constant, a rich, egocentric, young man with twisted morals who has
had everything in his life handed to him. He cares little for the welfare of others and this is
exemplified throughout the duration of the entire novel. The other main character is the antagonist,

Titans Of The Titans: Directive And Charismatic Leadership
Q1.
Coach Boone is first introduced to the audience as a directive and charismatic leader. He doesn't
want anyone to contradict him; he even makes a claim and calls himself a dictator. He has a task of
assembling a new football team almost as a faultlessly working mechanism, a mission that has never
been attempted before him, therefore it was necessary for him to come forward and to mark his
territory as a strong leader. However, in order to achieve the mission he needed to overcome a series
of obstacles. The way he did it, the way he used his communication skills, motivation/punishment
politics, motivation, shows to a viewer that his had almost model leadership. A leadership is a
capability of influencing different people to cooperate, be effective and efficient for the
organization, or a team (McShane & Glinlow, 2012). A prime example is at camp when Boone puts
together black players with white players and demands them to learn about each other, and until then
they will have three training sessions a day. At the same time as Boone's testing his new players, his
authority and morale are being tested as well: by the team members' rebellious behavior and also by
one of the major lines of the opposition in the movie (black vs. white). For the Titans, this testing
stage begins with the team's arrival at Gettysburg College. Marked by fights between the informal
leaders, Julius, and Gerry, Petey blaming his blockers for his own errors, as well as the formation of

Reflection Of Remember The Titans
Remember the Titans is a movie about a football team, but it was not as a simple as it seemed. The
year is 1971, a high school in Alexandria, Virginia becomes integrated. Bringing together many
talented athletes. This movie is lead by two coach's, Coach Boone (Denzel Washington), and Coach
Yoast (Will Patton). Before the school was integrated Coach Yoast who is white was the head coach.
After the integration Coach Boone was given the title head coach. Yoast does not want that to
happen, and Boone does not agree on it either. He has respect for him, but understands he has a job
to do. With this happening Coach Boone is the first black coach of an integrated school. The thing
was Coach Yoast has his players and Coach Boone has is. They both new the challenge of bringing
them together was going to be difficult. When Yoast tells his white players they do not want to play
for a black coach. It seems completely unreasonable, but during this time racism was a big problem.
He did not want his players to lose their scholarships so he accepts the title of assistant coach. All of
the players were very talented but as a team they were nothing. They weren't working together at all,
because they both had too much of an ego and did not want to work together. So the whole team was
sent to football camp, but the point of this camp was to make them play as a team. Of course they
went to improve their skills, but the main reason was to build a bond between the players. They

Remember the Titans Essay
Remember the Titans is a classic football movie filled with many obstacles. These obstacles vary
from racism to dealing with death. It's based on a true story that took place in Alexandria, Virginia in
1971. What makes this movie classic is how the players and coaches were able to overcome the
issue of segregation and build relationships to form a championship team. Building relationships
When the school board announced there will no longer be any form of segregation in schools, the
black and white players on the football team had a hard time accepting each other. After the first
fight broke out during training camp in practice, the coaches immediately handled the situation by
making all players share a room with the opposite race. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final cue was "always put two hands on the ball at contact." It's very unlikely to fumble when
protecting the ball with both hands. Personal issues Just before the state semi–finals, a member of
the school board tells coach Yoast that he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame after the Titans lose
their game. Coach Boone was threatened to be fired if the team lost a single game because he was an
African American head coach in a white society. The game was being officiated in the opposing
teams favor. Coach Yoast went up to an official and threatened to tell the press of the scam they
were trying to run. After the Titans came out victorious, Yoast lost his spot in the Hall of Fame.
Although that was his dream, he didn't want to be inducted that way. He'd rather not be inducted
than let his team down. Feedback After the T.C. William Titans started the season off at 7–0 the
entire city started giving them positive feedback. Many restaurants were promoting their success
with posters in their windows saying "Titans 7–0 and counting, all players eat free." Prior to their
success people were un–accepting of the whole integration issue. There was one instance where the
owner of a restaurant kicked the players out because a group of both black and white players came
in together and blacks weren't allowed. Their success on the field helped them have positive results
in their school and in their bi–racial community.

Cronus: The Titan King
Cronus was one of the most feared and respected deities of the Greek culture. Cronus was also the
youngest of the first–generation of Titans. His power was controlling time. Cronus believed he held
the answer to everything. He was cynical, arrogant, not that wise, and very prideful. However, he
also had some helpful strengths. Cronus was intellectual, and powerful. He commanded respect, and
had control over time. His arrogance and pride were probably his downfall. Cronus would never
back down from a challenge. (<http://halexandria.org/dward377.htm>)
Cronus's parents were Gaea, the Earth goddess, and Uranus, the Sky God. Cronus had eleven Titan

Themes Of The Sirens Of Titan
The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut , Why It is Great & How It Affected My Ideas?
The Sirens of Titan was the third Kurt Vonnegut novel I read.
Books, to me, are meant to serve the purpose of creating an enlightened and timeless version of
ourselves. In this sense, The Sirens of Titan was, undoubtedly, the most astounding and mesmerizing
novel I have ever laid my eyes on. It poses a great significance for both my personality and thoughts
as it changed them drastically; therefore, I find The Sirens of Titan to be the most influential piece of
literature and the Magnum Opus amongst all of Kurt Vonnegut's his works. Kurt Vonnegut structures
an elaborate plot in which he masterfully touches upon the great themes of free will, luck, religion,
and the actual meaning of life, all the while using a sarcastic yet humanistic tone with an extensive
symbolism in The Sirens of Titan. Moreover, the manipulation of time structure, change of
narrations, and premature/delayed revelations he exposes his readers to, as chapters advance,
constitutes the novel's genuine and idiosyncratical postmodern character. He does all these
maintaining his signature use of simplex syntax, metafiction, and hyperreality, developed and
supported by the interconnected literary universe he created through his writing career. He is

Remember The Titans Diversity
Remember the Titans is a film based on the true story of Virginia High School football team
working to come together during desegregation in the 1970s. Herman Boone, a black head coach, is
hired to lead the T.C Williams High School Football Team. The team formerly led by a white coach,
Bill Yoast, is better known by their nickname, The Titans. Both Boone and Yoast must work together
to bring their white and black players together in a time where segregation across racial lines in the
south was commonly accepted. Boone and Yoast are successful in doing this during the team's
training camp, only to return to find that bringing the team together would be only one of the
challenges they faced. We see both coaches work together and lead the team to an undefeated season
that helped unite the town and overcome its own racial strife. One of the movies' overarching
themes is team building through adversity and using diversity to strengthen a team. We see this team
building done by many characters, most notably Yoast and Boone the two coaches. They are helped
in this by the players themselves as well. A white player named Gerry Bertier and a black player
name Julius Campbell. Both players are initially determined to side along racial lines during their
team building experience at camp. Yoast and Boone help set the example for the players as Yoast
swallow his pride and accepts a lesser position on the coaching staff than what he previously held.

Out of all sports, football seems to be the one that builds the most vigorous bonds between its
teammates. The physical demands during a game and practice force each player to rely on one
another on the field. Think about the relationship between each offensive lineman. They all have to
visually examine each–others backs while bulwarking their own. Even more vigorous than that is
the relationship between a quarterback and his offensive teammates. As mentioned afore, the
offensive line is there to forfend the quarterback. The quarterback needs to trust them to stop any
defensive player from getting to him, in order for him to do his job. Withal, the quarterback must
have faith in not only his o–line, but his wide receivers and his running backs as well. He has to trust
them that they will be able to make plays if he gets them the ball. Discipline is shown in Remember

Remember The Titans Analysis
In the film 'Remember the Titans' directed by Boaz Yakin, the main characters of the Titans are
introduced as a group to us in a scene shot in the gymnasium. This scene is when the team first
meets the other prospective team members and develop their relationships with each other. Yakin
uses this scene to show tension and intimidation between the two separate teams, especially
focusing in on the two coaches (Boone and Yoast) while giving the audience an idea of where their
relationship stands. He uses four techniques to create this; blocking, sound effects, camera angles
and dialogue to do this
Yakin uses a variety of minor techniques in this excerpt to provide the viewer with a greater
understanding of the greater technique theme (racism and discrimination) running throughout the
film. Firstly, Yakin has used the facial expressions of the players and coaches to give the audience
the impression of dislike and discomfort, this is shown especially at the very end of the excerpt, this
is when the two coaches meet eye to eye in a confrontation by their teams. The facial expressions
create an atmosphere of disapproval to the audience which aids the setup of the greater theme
throughout the film. Secondly the technique of blocking (where the director has chosen the actors to
stand) is used to give an impression of a standoff/confrontation. An example of this would be when
the white team strides in and places themselves standing opposite the black team. This is important

Remember The Titans – Coach Yoast:
In the movie Remember the Titans by Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman, there are two main
coaches that are involved with a mixed race football team from T. C. Williams High School. In the
start of the movie Coach Yoast was a happy man coaching a good team. Then came along a black
coach called Coach boon and took his job. There were some arguments throughout the movie and
then Coach Yoast had to accept he was going to have to work with this man.
In the movie Remember the Titans by Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman, there are two main
coaches that are involved with a mixed race football team from T. C. Williams High School. In the
start of my essay I will be talking about when these two coaches meet. Then I will talk about how
one coach loses his job and the other takes over. In the 3rd paragraph I will talk about how those two
work together. Then in my final paragraph I will talk about the championship game.
When these two first met, Coach Yoast didn't know that he was going to lose his job to coach
Boone. "The school board may have put you on my team, but I did not hire you" this is what coach
Yoast first says to Boone. This shows that even though Coach Boone will be working alongside him,
Yoast didn't choose for him to be on his staff, this means that ... Show more content on

Before the game Coach Boone is telling the team how even if they lose they will still be champions.
Coach Yoast also says "I hope you boys have learned as much from me this year as I've learned from

it's about time I joined the club".This shows that Coach Yoast is very proud of his team. He is saying
how they have taught him stuff even though he is the coach. They have showed him that you should

Remember the Titans Jamie Velez Elizabeth Hughes Paul Way EDUC 268 Remember the Titans – Five Step Analysis Plot Summary In April of 1971, the United States Supreme Court issued a ruling that ended all stateimposed segregation in public schools. This was the same year that T. C. Williams High School located in Alexander Virginia was integrated. This is the setting for the movie Remember the Titans, staring Denzel Washington who portrays Herman Boone the head coach of the Titans. Herman Boone is brought in as an assistant coach to join the all white coaching staff. Analysis Of Hajime Isayama's Novel 'Attack On Titan' Graphic artist Hajime Isayama's best selling novel, Attack on Titan, illustrates the story of a walled community that protects its citizens from gigantic humanoids – Titans – that consume humans (Isayama, 2014). Hot headed 13–year–old Eren Jäger features as the main protagonist, who pledges his life to the military at the age of 11 to defeat the Titans. Eren's noble dedication is fueled by the multiple traumas he experienced in his childhood. From enduring family risk factors such as becoming orphaned at age 8, to community risk factors such as lack of support for an overzealous pre–teen soldier, Eren exhibits increased vulnerability to developing multiple types of psychopathy. On the other hand, Eren eventually finds himself a tight knit group of friends and new parental figure, which together produce protective factors such as supportive relationships, as well as physical and psychological safety. An analysis of Eren's intra– and inter– personal experiences suggests his likelihood to developing several types of psychopathy. The multidimensional integrative approach to psychopathology indicates Eren's vulnerability to developing psychological disorders exists in biological, psychological, emotional, and developmental categories (Barlow et al., 2017). The novel hints at Eren's allegedly dead father, Dr. Grisha Jäger exhibiting elements of schizophrenia as he hallucinated about Titans from working as a doctor during Titan battles (Isayama, 2014). Although this movies main plot is surrounded by football it has a much deeper meaning than just a game. Remember the Titans is based on the true story of coach Herman Boone played by Denzel Washington and what he did for the young men of T.C. Williams High School in the year 1971. Given the huge task of integrating the football team of a small school in Virginia, Coach Boone and assistant coach Bill Yoast played by Will Patton begin by introducing their two captains, Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell. News of the new head coach and integration of the school had sent the town into a complete uproar. Having black students walk the halls with white students hadn't been an option until now and to add to the tension of integration in the school current head coach Bill Yoast was forced to step down to assistant after having a hall of fame worthy career for the T.C. Co–captain Gerry Burtier gets caught up in the celebration and is involved in a severe car accident that leaves him paralyzed from the waist down just a week before the state championship game. Titan Exploration : Past Will Jake Peterson Erika Harnett Robby Robinson ESS 102 AK January 29th, 2015 Titan Exploration: Past to Future Sci–fi Paper Synopsis: It is the distant future, and the human race knows pretty much everything there is to know about Saturn's 6th moon, Titan. The Huygens probe was the first man made object to pierce the thick atmosphere of Titan, landing on the surface in 2005. From this mission, some light was shed upon the mysterious body of Titan, and it was found to be an "alien Earth", with lakes and seas and even active meteorology and surface processes (O'Connor, 2015). At first, it was thought that life would not have been able to live in the extreme cold temperatures of Titan, but as time went on and humans evolved, our understanding of life and its infinite possibilities grew too. Now, there are camps on Titan devoted to creating a new form of life– a new humanoid species. If this were to come to fruition, would the new creations serve us, be our equal, or think of themselves as our superiors? Will big corporations gain control over all the possibilities that come with the creation of life? Where is the line of how much humans can play God? Our humanity will be put to the test in this adventure that follows the scientists stationed on Titan, their experiments, and the mess that is 'money equals power'. Just earlier this month, NASA and ESA celebrated the 10–year anniversary of the first Titan landing. Huygens parachuted gently down towards an unknown ground in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The one in "Remember the Titans" is no different. The year is 1971 and Alexandria, Va. is about to undergo a change. The local school board has to integrate an all–black school with an all–white school to create T. C. Williams High School. The whole town is put to the test, starting with the high school football team, the Titans. The man picked to lead the team is Herman Boone. Boone is chosen as head coach over local hero coach Bill Yoast, who had led the team to several victories. Molding this group of boys isn't going to be easy. It takes just about the whole length of the movie before the town learns to accept the football team's desegregation. But when the football team wants to go out and celebrate, they can't go and eat at the same place. The white boys had no idea what their black teammates have to go through. • 12. Remember The Titans Essay The film remember the titans is set in the city of Alexandria during 1971 and it is not based on a true story. The film follows the TC Williams High School football team or titans in a perfect season, along the way they face racial diversity and many team and personal problems. The titans are hated by the community because they are one of the first high schools to stop segregation. The team is hated in the beginning of the season because of this ban of segregation and also because of their new black head coach who takes the job of the old white coach. Later the community starts to love the team because of their dominance of the competition. This is because the old and new coach start to become friends and set an example for the players. The ... One of the most memorable turning points for Gary was when the players were at the training camp and Gary is talking to Julius about playing selfishly and not blocking. The camera angels in this scene really add to the felling and intensity of the film. With an almost perfect combination of over the shoulder, two shot and close up angels. The use of this made the viewer feel like something changed in Gary by the end of the scene, this was defiantly helped by the strong and well–acted lines of Julius. When Gary says "see man... that's the worst attitude I ever heard" in a heartfelt voice Julius reply's with "Attitude reflect leadership... captain" Gary's face become blank and lifeless at this point and the viewer can easily see that he wants to change something to get the team working together. Towards the end of the film Gary's whole perspective of a black and white team changes. This is clear when he asked to only be visited by Julius who became his best friend. Scriticism In The Sirens Of Titans Most "science fiction is rooted in the belief that through thinking human beings can indeed save the planet and the species" and that "progress is not only possible but probable through science" (Morse 293). Dealing with themes common to most science fiction, Kurt Vonnegut's The Sirens of Titan "explores the question of purpose in a futuristic setting" (May 35). This novel, however, contests many presumptions upon which many science fiction foregrounds. Josh Simpson writes that by " [us]ing irony, satire, and black humor . . . Vonnegut forces his readers to consider what it means to be human in a chaotic, often absurd, and irrational universe (262). In fact, many scholars would agree that The Sirens of Titan is "Vonnegut's most flamboyant novel, with its entire universe at the mercy of the outrageous fortune" (Wolfe 968). Seconding G. K. Wolfe's idea, Lynn Buck notes that the world of Vonnegut is a "mixture of hilarity and futility, [and] illusion" (181). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 16. A Short Note On Saturn 's Moon, Titan Essay One of Saturn's moon, Titan, possess planetary conditions unique to the solar system. It has an incredibly thick and organically rich atmosphere and a vast number of different liquid conditions. The numerous ways in which its atmosphere and liquids interact results in the formation of a vast array of different organic and prebiotic molecules, making it an excellent location for the possible development of life, despite its frigid temperatures. Understanding how life could form on Titan would give insight regarding not only how life formed on Earth, but also to how, what ways, and what forms life could form on other planets with conditions dissimilar from Earth, opening up the number of planets that could be seen as hospitable to life, as well as possibly expanding the search for life to icy moons. Titan's atmosphere and liquid conditions, surface and subsurface, its primordial conditions, as well as Titan's frigid subzero temperatures, all place limitations on and give new opportunities to the formation of life in ways that resemble Earth's life, but more frequently in ways entirely different, in chemical composition, general structure, and metabolism. However, in some ways, Titan's conditions may be too unstable and harsh for the development and survival of life. Titan's atmosphere is one of the key points to the possibility of life developing on Saturn's largest moon. Its atmospheric composition is 90 percent nitrogen and its second most abundant constituent is methane. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Cyclopes were three giants with one eye in the middle of their face, who had the power to forge the lightning–bolts of Zeus. Due to their power their father feared them. • 20. The Sirens Of Titan Essay Over the course of Kurt Vonnegut's career, an unorthodox handling of time became one of many signature features in his fictional works (Allen 37). Despite The Sirens of Titan (1959) being only his second novel, this trademark is still prevalent. When delving into science fiction, it is often helpful to incorporate ideas from other works within the genre. This concept is exemplified by the "megatext," an aspect of science fiction that involves the application of a reader's own knowledge of the genre to a new encounter (Evans xiii). By working within the megatext, Ursula K. Le Guin's The Dispossessed (1974) provides an insightful avenue in exploring the handling of time and its consequences in Vonnegut's The Sirens of Titan. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An interesting structural feature to note is that each chapter is preceded by a quotation from that chapter. This is not unlike a prophecy and resembles Rumfoord's abilities. This use of chapter quotations as well as the looping of the narrative could be interpreted to reflect Rumfoord's perception of time in that "everything that ever has been always will be, and everything that ever will be always has been" (20). There is also a significant amount of foreshadowing in that the novel is essentially outlined during Malachi's first meeting with Rumfoord. In The Dispossessed, time can be thought of in either a Sequential or Simultaneous manner. The Sequential school of thought is the more concrete, familiar version in that time flows in a linear progression. Simultaneity considers this linearity as "not...a physically objective phenomenon, but as a subjective one" (Le Guin 221). Shevek, the protagonist, makes use of an apt comparison to further describe the concept: It would be a little like reading a book, you see. The book is all there, at once, between its covers. But if you want to read the story and understand it, you must begin with the first page, and go forward, always in order. So the universe would be a very great book, and we would be very small readers. (221) According to Shevek, where Sequence falls short is its inability to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The team's passion for football was also constructive to the unity of the team. As Coach Boone extended practices and demanded perfect unity, the team began to realize that previous prejudices would yield no help to their current conditions. On the other hand it was also interesting that the bond that the Titans were able to create was strengthened significantly, but became weak and diminished as peers pressured for separation. Sometimes even the greatest freindships on the football field were completely forgotten in the school hallways. My greatest take away is that true unity cannot exist until all pride is taken away, and genuine understanding is emphasized. As the group put off their pride, and sought to understand each other they were able to accomplish amazing things both on the game field, in their personal relationships, and their daily lives. I liked the plot of the movie, and the great message that it teaches. I also liked the comical scenes and relief points that keep the movie going because it makes it esier to follow along .I think it could have been better if it were more recent since it is an older film. • 28. Remember The Titans Essay In 1971 Coach Herman Boone replaced a popular, successful white coach at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia, in that community's effort to finally integrate its schools. The school and community were angrily divided by the federal integration order, and the volatility of the situation was heightened by the abrupt demotion of Coach Yoast and Boone's promotion to Head Coach. In this movie Coach Boone is on a mission to try to get the white and black players to unite and play together as a team. He wanted the two races to become a team. Around that time, there was a lot of racism and a lot of schools were segregated, so the players obviously didn't get along with each other at first. A lot changed when Boone replaced Yoast ... That is when a team actually started to form. The speech was about the Civil War that happened at Gettysburg. He told the players that they have to stop fighting with one another and start thinking of each other as brothers and come together as a team and start seeing life in a different perspective. After that, they had plenty of practices and worked hard until they learned how to get along, and they finally did that. It was beautiful to watch them get along and become a team. They were becoming friends and would joke with one another in the locker rooms. Mostly everyone get along. Julius and Gary were becoming great friends, which was hard to believe, because they hated each other at first. Later on, they got a new player. He had long hair, and they called him "Sunshine". He was a quarterback and was the newest player on the mighty Titans. The team thought he was gay but he really wasn't. The team was ready to come back home after all the hard practices at camp. The Titanesses (females) were Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Rhea and Themis. A common question asked is "who is the most important Titan god?" Hyperion is the most important Titan god. The three most important Titan gods are Hyperion, Mnemosyne, and Cronus. Hyperion is the god of heavenly light. He is also thought of as the one who cycles the sun. "Hyperion, as a Titan son of Heaven, was probably also viewed as the primal god who first ordered the cycles of sun, moon and dawn, establishing the regular rhythm of days and months. His brother Krios, on the other hand, presided over the ordering of the heavenly constellations and so in a complimentary manner ordered the year and the cycle of seasons" (HYPERION). Mnemosyne is the goddess of memory, and time. "Mnemosyne was also a goddess of time. She represented the rote memorisation required to preserve the stories of history and the sagas of myth before the introduction of writing. In this role she was the mother of the Mousai (Muses) who were originally patron goddesses of poets of the oral tradition" (MNEMOSYNE). Cronus is the God of time, and the king of all Titans. They both were committing to a goal. The locker room is where all the lively fun times were during the movie. They made jokes and this reflects that the team is starting to interact at a social level. They would also sing together in the locker room. Singing to songs like "Aint no mountain high enough" was a ritual and a bonding experience for the teammates. They are getting to know one another and learn each other. They were trying to be close together like the scene where one white player and two African American players go into a restaurant and the African American players are refused service. The fourth stage is performing; this stage focuses on completing the task. Coach Boone always told the team it is about being proud of what you have accomplished, regardless of the outcome. This is where a change in the team is really being noticed. • 34. The Titans Research Paper It was very hard for football team The Titans to come together. But throughout their performances in practice matches and in training, the Titans team of 1971 were brought together by brotherhood and compassion. Over a period of months, the blacks and the whites were forced to spend time with each other at a football boot camp. They were forced to practice multiple times each day with the opposite race. It was very hard for the players to overcome their racism and the long standing community belief that these two races could not live together peacefully. But as time passed, these two groups would change history. In order to form a team the players needed to get to know one another. The first step to accomplish this goal was to make sure that the conflict between the races no longer existed. This started on the day they left for boot camp when Coach Boone insisted that the two buses have a combination of the two races. He did this by separating them into defensive and offensive positions. This guaranteed a mix of black and white players on each bus. The very next day, Louie Lastick made a move that ensured that the race barrier could be broken. In 1970, the Supreme Court ruling in Swann v Charlotte–Mecklenburg Board of Education permits busing students to achieve racial integration in public schools. In 1971, T. C. Williams High School hires successful, black coach, Herman Boone as head coach to lead the school's newly integrated football team, depriving Bill Yoast, former head coach and nominee for the Virginia High School Hall of Fame, of the head coach position. Yoast debates pursuing opportunities elsewhere, but when most of his white players vow to sit out the season unless he coaches, he changes his mind and stays on as Boone's assistant and defensive coordinator. Throughout training camp and the season, Boone and Yoast's black and white players learn to accept each other, to work together, and that football knows no race. As they learn from each other, Boone and Yoast also learn from them and in turn, the whole town learns from the team, the Titans. During their practices, black and white football team members often clash in racial conflicts. The biggest fights occur between the white captain, whom also acts as the unofficial leader for the white football players, Gerry Bertier, and black player, whom also acts as the unofficial leader for the black football ... Even though all odds were against them, the Titans pulled through and managed to win the state championship. The first, and main obstacle that the Titans faced was racism. Racism was prevalent throughout the whole movie, but was worst in the beginning as the team had not learned to accept each other yet. White players and parents didn't want black players or a black coach, and many wanted to boycott T.C. Williams for allowing it. Head coach, Herman Boone, solved this at the team's camp by forcing the players to get to know each other, or face practice multiple times a day. • 42. Greek Mythology : The Desire For Power In The Titans In Greek mythology, there is always a perpetual notion of power. The desire for power is associated with the father figure of a family. Furthermore, a father sets the tone for his family by setting rules and establishing their reputation. From the beginning of time, there has been angst in losing power, starting with the Earth and sky. Arising fear occurs when a father finds that one of his children is a threat to his throne. It also develops when a father realizes that since he sabotaged his own father, potentially his child could the same. Taking into consideration both of these cases, it is understood that a male parent in ancient Greek consciousness seeks a role having power. This thirst for power has resulted in the betrayal of wives and the attempt to destroy an upbringing of children. Through the fatherhood of Ouranos, Cronos, and Zeus, it is clear that their role is to exercise dominance, moreover keep away potential threats. Without sexual love, Ouranos was birthed by Gaia, and later coupled with her. This pairing granted Gaia twelve sons, and six daughters. Twelve of their children were known as the Titans, three were the Cyclopes, and three others were the Hundred–Handers. Ouranos was not fearful of the Titans, or the Cyclopes. Nonetheless, it was the Hundred–Handers whom he dreaded. In addition to having insane strength, "A hundred hands stuck out of their shoulders, / Grotesque, and fifty heads grew on each stumpy neck" (Hes. Theogony. ll. 151 – 152). To make ... Coach Boone outraged by a comment from Gerry Bertier calls all the players to the front of the busses. He orders them to pair up according to their positions on the football field, accomplishing team unity and overcoming the first obstacle in getting the boys to work together. Also of interest are the responses of the player's parents when they return from camp. They are surprised to see how Coach Boone has changed them. • 46. How Does Titan Affect The Life On Titan However, if life had somehow developed in these cold and hydrophobic bodies of liquid methane and ethane, its "surface–to–volume ratio considerations may be less constraining than at higher temperatures in polar solvents." On Earth, lower temperatures create a more viscous solvent, causing slower diffusion and rate of metabolism. If this applies to Titan, life there could involve "huge (by Earth standards) and very slowly metabolizing cells." This would slow evolution down significantly, instead having potentially longer lived organisms, especially since atmospheric tholins reduce the radiation damage they receive significantly (Schulze–Makuch 1480–1481). Having slow metabolic processes and slow evolutionary capabilities may not be advantageous on Titan with its frequently changing surface liquid conditions if the life depends on being within the hydrocarbon liquids for survival. In order to cope with the rapid changes, life on Titan could go into a form of suspended animation while the surface liquids are in their period of evaporation and reanimate with its return, a successful survival method for the tardigrade. Another option would be that it does not require being in a liquid for survival, instead utilizing the "products of photolysis," aerosols and tholins, that could cover Titan's surface "with 100–200 metres and more" (Simakov 395), as some anaerobic bacteria on Earth are capable of fulfilling their energy and nitrogen needs through the consumption of tholins ... What are the main character's leadership strengths (if any) and why? What are the main character's leadership weaknesses (if any) and why? In my opinion, coach Boone had many leadership strengths: He had his goal to make the team a winning team, and to do that he knew he would have to overcome many obstacles, to make the players a real team and a group of players. To do that, he needed the capacity to motivate the team, to push them harder to achieve the goals, to make them expect more from themselves and their teammates. For me, one of the best moments that showed coach Boone was a very good leader was when he Boone woke up all the players in the evening and made them run with him. He didn't just order them to do something he knew was difficult. He did it with them. He had self–sacrificed for the team. Coach Yoast, went to tell him that he was pushing them too hard, but Boone knew exactly what he was doing. When he stopped the running, and gave the speech about the differences and what that had as result, I think that speech changed the attitude between the players. That speech inspired them to want to be more, to want to grow as a group. And in the next game, after the Capitan of the team took the first step, they finally started to be a united team. • 57. The Sirens Of Titan The Sirens of Titan The book I chose for my third book report is "The Sirens of Titan", a 326 page novel by Kurt Vonnegut. I chose this book because initially the synopsis caught my interest and I had heard a great deal about the writing of Vonnegut although, I had never actually read any of his works. I thought, based on the theme of the story, that it would be an interesting read; despite my tendency to read books outside of the science fiction genre, I figured I would try something new and give this book a chance. The title is a peculiar one to me seeing as the story hardly addresses the "sirens" in full, let alone gives enough significance to them to be worthy of the title. The sirens are only brought up on occasion and do not add anything too vital to the story. I only have the vaguest of ideas as to why Vonnegut would select this as his title. All I can interpret from it is that it 's a reflection on how the protagonist cares for only insignificant and petty things like wealth and attraction rather than any imperative and genuine world issues. The story takes place in the 22nd century on the planets of Earth, Mars, briefly on Mercury, and on Titan, the moon of Saturn. The story centers around Malachi Constant, a rich, egocentric, young man with twisted morals who has had everything in his life handed to him. He has a task of assembling a new football team almost as a faultlessly working mechanism, a mission that has never been attempted before him, therefore it was necessary for him to come forward and to mark his territory as a strong leader. However, in order to achieve the mission he needed to overcome a series of obstacles. The way he did it, the way he used his communication skills, motivation/punishment politics, motivation, shows to a viewer that his had almost model leadership. A leadership is a capability of influencing different people to cooperate, be effective and efficient for the organization, or a team (McShane & Glinlow, 2012). A prime example is at camp when Boone puts together black players with white players and demands them to learn about each other, and until then they will have three training sessions a day. At the same time as Boone's testing his new players, his authority and morale are being tested as well: by the team members' rebellious behavior and also by one of the major lines of the opposition in the movie (black vs. white). For the Titans, this testing stage begins with the team's arrival at Gettysburg College. Marked by fights between the informal leaders, Julius, and Gerry, Petey blaming his blockers for his own errors, as well as the formation of groups, Coach ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Reflection Of Remember The Titans Remember the Titans is a movie about a football team, but it was not as a simple as it seemed. The year is 1971, a high school in Alexandria, Virginia becomes integrated. Bringing together many talented athletes. This movie is lead by two coach's, Coach Boone (Denzel Washington), and Coach Yoast (Will Patton). Before the school was integrated Coach Yoast who is white was the head coach. After the integration Coach Boone was given the title head coach. Yoast does not want that to happen, and Boone does not agree on it either. He has respect for him, but understands he has a job to do. With this happening Coach Boone is the first black coach of an integrated school. The thing was Coach Yoast has his players and Coach Boone has is. They both new the challenge of bringing them together was going to be difficult. When Yoast tells his white players they do not want to play for a black coach. It seems completely unreasonable, but during this time racism was a big problem. He did not want his players to lose their scholarships so he accepts the title of assistant coach. All of the players were very talented but as a team they were nothing. They weren't working together at all, because they both had too much of an ego and did not want to work together. So the whole team was sent to football camp, but the point of this camp was to make them play as a team. Of course they went to improve their skills, but the main reason was to build a bond between the players. They headed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Remember the Titans Essay Remember the Titans is a classic football movie filled with many obstacles. These obstacles vary from racism to dealing with death. It's based on a true story that took place in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971. What makes this movie classic is how the players and coaches were able to overcome the issue of segregation and build relationships to form a championship team. Building relationships When the school board announced there will no longer be any form of segregation in schools, the black and white players on the football team had a hard time accepting each other. After the first fight broke out during training camp in practice, the coaches immediately handled the situation by making all players share a room with the opposite race. ... Personal issues Just before the state semi–finals, a member of the school board tells coach Yoast that he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame after the Titans lose their game. Coach Boone was threatened to be fired if the team lost a single game because he was an African American head coach in a white society. The game was being officiated in the opposing teams favor. Coach Yoast went up to an official and threatened to tell the press of the scam they were trying to run. After the Titans came out victorious, Yoast lost his spot in the Hall of Fame. Although that was his dream, he didn't want to be inducted that way. He'd rather not be inducted than let his team down. Feedback After the T.C. William Titans started the season off at 7–0 the entire city started giving them positive feedback. Many restaurants were promoting their success with posters in their windows saying "Titans 7–0 and counting, all players eat free." Prior to their success people were un–accepting of the whole integration issue. There was one instance where the owner of a restaurant kicked the players out because a group of both black and white players came in together and blacks weren't allowed. Their success on the field helped them have positive results in their school and in their bi–racial community. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Cronus: The Titan King Cronus was one of the most feared and respected deities of the Greek culture. Cronus was also the youngest of the first–generation of Titans. His power was controlling time. Cronus believed he held the answer to everything. He was cynical, arrogant, not that wise, and very prideful. However, he also had some helpful strengths. Cronus was intellectual, and powerful. He commanded respect, and had control over time. His arrogance and pride were probably his downfall. Cronus would never back down from a challenge. (<http://halexandria.org/dward377.htm>) Cronus's parents were Gaea, the Earth goddess, and Uranus, the Sky God. Cronus had eleven Titan siblings. His sisters were Rhea(Future Queen of the Titans), Tethys(wife/sister of Oceanus, produced rivers and ocean nymphs), Mnemosyne(Titan of memory, mother of the Muses), Crius(no details given), Phoebe(Titan of the Moon, mother of Leto), and Thea(no details given). And his brothers were Oceanus(the unending stream of water encircling the world), Hyperion(Titan of Light), Themis(Titan of Justice and Order), Iapetus(father of Prometheus, Epimetheus, Menoetius, and Atlas by Clymene), and Coeus(Titan of Intelligence). ("The Titans of the Golden Age") Uranus and Gaea did not just have the Titans as children. Uranus thought they were ugly and undesirable. The undesirable siblings were the Hecatoncheires(100–handers) and the Cyclops(a monster with one eye, amazing crafters in the forges). He thought they would disrupt ... • 69. Themes Of The Sirens Of Titan The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut , Why It is Great & How It Affected My Ideas? The Sirens of Titan was the third Kurt Vonnegut novel I read. Books, to me, are meant to serve the purpose of creating an enlightened and timeless version of ourselves. In this sense, The Sirens of Titan was, undoubtedly, the most astounding and mesmerizing novel I have ever laid my eyes on. It poses a great significance for both my personality and thoughts as it changed them drastically; therefore, I find The Sirens of Titan to be the most influential piece of literature and the Magnum Opus amongst all of Kurt Vonnegut's his works. Kurt Vonnegut structures an elaborate plot in which he masterfully touches upon the great themes of free will, luck, religion, and the actual meaning of life, all the while using a sarcastic yet humanistic tone with an extensive symbolism in The Sirens of Titan. Moreover, the manipulation of time structure, change of narrations, and premature/delayed revelations he exposes his readers to, as chapters advance, constitutes the novel's genuine and idiosyncratical postmodern character. He does all these maintaining his signature use of simplex syntax, metafiction, and hyperreality, developed and supported by the interconnected literary universe he created through his writing career. He is influenced, in my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In short, The Sirens of Titan is a remarkable novel written by a leading writer of black–humored, satiric, and critic science fiction; therefore, it should be read with the deserved attention and care, parallel to its depth and value. Martin Heidegger stated, criticizing the "wrong" path that western philosophy deviated to, that people understood "being" only in the superficial sense. The advancements in mathematics and natural sciences along the millennia always pre–assumed that being was a known phenomenon and never bothered to explore its true nature; bypassing the herculean task, we never delved into what "Ontos" really ... • 73. Remember The Titans Diversity Remember the Titans is a film based on the true story of Virginia High School football team working to come together during desegregation in the 1970s. Herman Boone, a black head coach, is hired to lead the T.C Williams High School Football Team. The team formerly led by a white coach, Bill Yoast, is better known by their nickname, The Titans. Both Boone and Yoast must work together to bring their white and black players together in a time where segregation across racial lines in the south was commonly accepted. Boone and Yoast are successful in doing this during the team's training camp, only to return to find that bringing the team together would be only one of the challenges they faced. We see both coaches work together and lead the team to an undefeated season that helped unite the town and overcome its own racial strife. One of the movies' overarching themes is team building through adversity and using diversity to strengthen a team. We see this team building done by many characters, most notably Yoast and Boone the two coaches. They are helped in this by the players themselves as well. A white player named Gerry Bertier and a black player name Julius Campbell. Both players are initially determined to side along racial lines during their team building experience at camp. Yoast and Boone help set the example for the players as Yoast swallow his pride and accepts a lesser position on the coaching staff than what he previously held. The example set by Yoast helps ... Out of all sports, football seems to be the one that builds the most vigorous bonds between its teammates. The physical demands during a game and practice force each player to rely on one another on the field. Think about the relationship between each offensive lineman. They all have to visually examine each–others backs while bulwarking their own. Even more vigorous than that is the relationship between a quarterback and his offensive teammates. As mentioned afore, the offensive line is there to forfend the quarterback. The quarterback needs to trust them to stop any defensive player from getting to him, in order for him to do his job. Withal, the quarterback must have faith in not only his o–line, but his wide receivers and his running backs as well. He has to trust them that they will be able to make plays if he gets them the ball. Discipline is shown in Remember the Titans. The players of the team have to go through rigorous discipline. They are required to wear uniforms and act as opportune as they can otherwise they are penalized for disobedience. They are required to revere their elders. The players of the team have to reply with "Sir" after everything they verbalize. The team is expected to verbalize with confidence and with a stentorian voice. Through such rigorous training, the team players learned to be disciplined and abide by rules. This shows how discipline was portrayed in Remember the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Remember The Titans Analysis In the film 'Remember the Titans' directed by Boaz Yakin, the main characters of the Titans are introduced as a group to us in a scene shot in the gymnasium. This scene is when the team first meets the other prospective team members and develop their relationships with each other. Yakin uses this scene to show tension and intimidation between the two separate teams, especially focusing in on the two coaches (Boone and Yoast) while giving the audience an idea of where their relationship stands. He uses four techniques to create this; blocking, sound effects, camera angles and dialogue to do this Yakin uses a variety of minor techniques in this excerpt to provide the viewer with a greater understanding of the greater technique theme (racism and discrimination) running throughout the film. Firstly, Yakin has used the facial expressions of the players and coaches to give the audience the impression of dislike and discomfort, this is shown especially at the very end of the excerpt, this is when the two coaches meet eye to eye in a confrontation by their teams. The facial expressions create an atmosphere of disapproval to the audience which aids the setup of the greater theme throughout the film. Secondly the technique of blocking (where the director has chosen the actors to stand) is used to give an impression of a standoff/confrontation. An example of this would be when the white team strides in and places themselves standing opposite the black team. This is important regarding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
