2. Putney Bridge
ï€ It is worth nothing that Putney Bridge is the only bridge in Britain to have a church at both ends. St.
Maryâs Church, Putney is located on the south and All Saints Church, Fulham on the north bank. That
being the case, we feel that Putney Bridge is the perfect location to set the very beginning of our trailer.
Immediately, the setting will promote a sense of disorientation for viewers. Even though a church is
present at either side of the bridge, the dark and low lit lighting will trigger the unknown and therefore
contradict the harmony that should be brought when considering the presence of a church nearby. A
church signifies light and hope and so the presence of St. Maryâs Church and All Saints Church conflicts
profoundly with the dark, suspicious atmosphere that will be present on our film posters and magazine
front covers.
ï€ As stated previously, our trailer will open picturing Putney Bridge during the day and progress rather
quickly, using time lapse to depict the bridge during the night. For that reason, we decided to carry out a
quick photo shoot to depict the location that will be featured across our promotional campaign.
ï€ In addition to the above, It is worth mentioning that All Saints Church, Fulham was featured in the film
âThe Omenâ, in a scene which begins in Bishopâs Park, and ends with a bizarre accident where a priest is
impaled by a lightning conductor on the top of the tower that is dislodged when it is hit by lightning. The
Omen is considered one of the best horror films ever made and so we believe that it is extremely iconic to
set our action thriller film in the same location. We are convinced that by setting our film in a location that
predicts peace, the plot of our storyline will disturb viewers and consequently defy the setting in which our
film is set. As a result of this, our location will help us to confuse viewers and therefore generate further
suspense for our audience.
3. The image above denotes All Saints Church, Fulham. As stated on the previous slide, this is the Church, which was featured in the
film âThe Omenâ. We feel that this image is extremely effective in showcasing a mysterious environment to our prospective viewers.
The low key lighting causes shadows and as a result heightens the instant suspicion for our audience. The dark, grey, cloudy sky
corresponds well with the low key lighting since it denotes darkness and therefore connotes evil. Even though the Church is visible, is
is evident that a number of tree branches prevent full exposure of the Church. As a result of this, the image reflects the idea of the
âUnknownâ. Furthermore, the open windows reveal that the Church is dark inside, even though the Church is shining bright on the
outside. The constant confusion in the image generates further anxiety for viewers. On that account, we believe that this is the
perfect location to launch the scene presenting the altercation between Ricky, Michael, Sarah, Chloe and Jessica. When Chloe is
held at gun point by Michael, the setting displayed above will intensify the scene due to the presence of the Church in the
background. Committing a sin in front of God reflects the âNo Boundariesâ in our film and therefore presents our film as exhilarating.
4. In similar fashion to the image displayed on the previous slide, this photograph pictures the same location. However, this image is
even darker than the previous image, creating even further hesitation and uncertainty. Yet again, the low key lighting triggers a
number of shadows, causing greater anxiety for viewers. Yet again, the image places great emphasis on the Church and therefore
suggests that the Church is out of place by being situated in this dark location and unforeseeable location. Nevertheless, we
believe that this location is perfect for the content of our film, which adds to the mystery behind any thriller film.
5. As displayed in the image above, it features the same setting
that is visible on the previous slides. Nevertheless, we decided
to take this image using the black and white effect. As a result
of this, greater emphasis is placed on the light that is emitting
from the Church. While the church is perceived as sacred and
protected as a result of the light, the dark surroundings denote
an evident contrast with the Church. The dark atmosphere
represents the idea of the unknown and therefore signifies
danger.
6. The image presented above depicts an extreme long shot of Putney Bridge and the River Thames. In addition to the above,
the image denotes St. Maryâs Church, a rounded glass-prowed ship-shaped 21st century building, Putney Wharf Tower, one
of the tallest buildings in Putney, which comprises luxury apartments and restaurants. Furthermore, cars passing over the
bridge are seen, displaying speed and a fast pace lifestyle, conforming to a conventional action thriller film. We decided to
capture this image using the black and white effect. As a result of this, the light that is emitted in Putney is emphasised,
through the reflection in the water. This adds to the mystery that should be conveyed in any thriller film. Moreover, the image
exposes the colour black to a great extent. For that reason, the darkness introduces uncertainty and the secrecy of our filmâs
plot line.
7. Similarly to the image on the previous slide, this image has been
taken using normal effect. Therefore, colour is present. The light
enhances the vibrant life style in Putney, London. Additionally, the
image captures the speed of the cars passing over Putney Bridge.
On that account, we believe that this image reflects the type of
atmosphere that we would like our audience to view when our trailer
begins. The night time setting enhances the idea of the unknown
and consequently adds to the mystery of the content within our film.
8. Yet again, this image denotes the same content that
is present with the last two images. However, this
shot is a medium close up and so the image places
greater significance on the buildings that are present
in Putney and the fast movement that is present on
the bridge itself (the cars). The black and white effect
once again adds to the mystery of our film, leading
once again to the idea of the Unknown.
9. The final two images that we took are quite different
to the previous images, since this image was taken on
Putney Bridge itself. For that reason, we captured a
closer view of the Church, the bridge and Putney
Wharf. Yet again, the black and white effect enhances
the mystery and darkness that will be present in our
action thriller film. Furthermore, the dark, cloudy sky
cooperates well with the overwhelming darkness,
conveying the idea of the Unknown.
10. To conclude our test shoot, this image (similar to the previous image) was taken in colour. This mid shot displays Putney
Bridge, St. Maryâs Church and Putney Warf. It is evident that it is night time, however the numerous lights reflects London as
a city that never sleeps. For that reason, the setting immediately promotes uncertainty and the unknown for our audience.
Finally, the dark blue, cloudy sky adds to the mystery of out film. Overall, we believe that this photo shoot has been
extremely beneficial since it gave us a clearer insight into the location that we hope to film our film trailer within. We feel that
the setting is perfect in order to cooperate well with our action thriller genre. The fast, vibrant lifestyle existent in Putney
conforms to an action packed film. As well as this, the dark setting, reflections in the river causes uncertainty and therefore
complies with a thriller genre.
