2. Low angle Establishing shot- St Werburghs Tunnel
We have used this shot to reinforce the urban scenery that Conor will be awakening in. The
street art and dim lighting will help us hugely in creating the atmosphere we want to achieve.
We have used a slightly low-angle shot to emphasise the power and size of the tunnel, showing
it as a strong, powerful setting.
3. Close up Cut away- tunnel
The close up cut away’s be accompanied by synchronous sounds of footsteps and
gravel movements, that will be significant in creating the atmosphere.
4. Establishing shot- lane
This shot juxtaposes with the urban scenery of the previous shot. The
transition from urban to rural scenery will show the audience Conor is
in an odd location, away from a busy populated environment.
5. Low- angle-Cut away- Church scenery
The overpowering, looming image will be a significant cut- away in creating an
eerie and spooky atmosphere. The church and graveyard will also help us to
stick to traditional conventions of the genre, helping us to establish the genre in
the opening more effectively.
6. Establishing shot- Gas Hills
The gas hill scene will feature Conor clumsily stumbling through, in a state of delirium. The
bone like structure of the bench and the thin, dark swaying trees will stick to conventions
of the psychological horror genre.
7. Establishing shot cut away- Railway
The railway moss cut away will be extremely quick and the colour and contrast of the shot
will be dimmed, helping to create the affect of horror and danger.
8. Establishing shot- lane opening
The old gates seen here will again be dimmed and dulled down in editing. We will also
feature the gates swaying, creating the illusion of the supernatural and horror.
9. POV shot- lane
The POV shot of the lane will help the audience identity with Conor, accompanied by shaky
camera movement and quick zoom transitions it will create a fast paced, panicked
atmosphere that will echo throughout the film.
10. Cut away- houses
This shot of the houses will be a simple and effective cut away to establish Conor’s
home, and will help to establish an important setting that will run throughout the
film.
11. Establishing shot- road
This shot will allow us to position Conor directly in the middle of the shot, identifying him
as the protagonist and showing the audience Conor is stumbling into a more populated
area.
