How Do The Author Characterize The Thinking Like A Historian
Module Two: Thinking like a Historian Part One 1.)How do the authors characterize the American response to the Holocaust, and what explanation(s)
do they give for that conduct? Both authors mentioned the possibility of the American people could have had an effect on the president's lack of
action. Wyman's suggested the "anti–Semitism" and the "anti–immigration" for being an influence on the nation. Breitman and Lichtman also
mentioned that the anti–Semitism could have provided the president with "backlash at home." Many Americans were still against immigration due to
their issues in the past. The thought of Jews seeking shelter inside the United States upset many. Americans began thinking that the fleeing Jews would
come over and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What ethical standards do the authors use in making their assessments? Wyman did not give many positive assessments on the U.S. government or the
President. Wyman's article focused on why Roosevelt was not passionate about helping the Jews by stopping the Nazi group. Breitman and Lichtman
views the response of the U.S. government and the President on a more positive note. They suggested that Roosevelt was working "behind the scenes"
on majority of his attempts to execute a plan to aid the Jews. They thought that Roosevelt was working around the political rim without stepping on
toes that could have put his presidency in jeopardy. Breitman and Lichtman used a more understanding approach in deducing their assessments. They
looked on Roosevelt's side of the story. It could have been the political hoops he had to jump through that many civilians would not understand. Even
the President of a country has limitations to his power (Breitman and Lictman). 4.)What ethical standard would you use to evaluate the conduct of
President Roosevelt and the U.S. government? I would use a morally just ethical standard. The president and the U.S. government needed to push the
issue to intervene as quickly as they could. They needed to have a meeting and working every issue out even if it took three days straight. Their top
priory should have been stopping this work of evil. Part Two 1.)Based on these primary sources, how would you characterize

Executive Order 8802
With the coming of World War II, African Americans were arguably elevated to a higher standing in society due to the total war effort. But what
part would Presidential and Military action take in this advancement since their duty is to protect their citizens? And would the efforts from these
offices triumph over the racial prejudice that ruled American society, and most importantly, would their legacy last for an improved quality of life
for a good portion of the US population. With these questions in mind, Executive Orders No. 8802 and 9981 as well as President Franklin D.
Roosevelt's call for increased admission of African Americans in the Armed Forces alone did not create change in social perception of Black US
citizens, at times highlighting barriers to social equality, but did sow the roots for economic opportunity and in turn gave... Show more content on

One of the nationwide race riots in particular, the Detroit Race Riot of 1943, demonstrates the lack of change in perspective and the strains the
Executive Order 8802 placed on communities. The large–scale chaos occurred after a fistfight from white disdain for the influx of black people
looking for work in automobile factories. With the inability to house the Southern immigrants, racial tensions grew stronger in the city already known
for white supremacy group the Ku Klux Klan's influence. The deaths of 25 blacks from the violence of police brutality and prejudices show that
initiatives aimed at the labor force in fact had minimal influence over the established institutions that ruled the cities harboring large populations of
African Americans. They in fact created tensions that would further target the blacks and prevent a social equality at a local scale. That said, the article
fails to mention the improved quality of life for the 1.6 Million who left the South with their Jim Crow

Executive Order 906 Essay
Ten weeks after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs Executive Order 9066, authorizing the removal of any
or all people from military areas "as deemed necessary or desirable." The military in turn defined the entire West Coast, home to the majority of
Americans of Japanese ancestry or citizenship, as a military area. By June, more than 110,000 Japanese Americans were relocated to remote internment
camps built by the U.S. military in scattered locations around the country. For the next two and a half years, many of these Japanese Americans
endured extremely difficult living conditions and poor treatment by their military guards. Executive Order 9066 was a United States presidential
executive order signed and issued during World War II by the United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 19, 1942, authorizing the
Secretary of War to prescribe certain areas as military zones, clearing the way for the deportation of Japanese Americans and Italian–Americans to
internment camps. On December 17, 1944, U.S. Major General Henry C. Pratt issued Public Proclamation No. 21, declaring that, ... Show more content

Executive Order History
As the Founders of the United States and the Framers of the Constitution started designing the government of the new United States, they made sure to
balance the powers of the three branches of government in order to create a fair and equal government. However, these intelligent men knew very
well that they could not actually create a perfect government, and as a result, some branches of government possess certain powers that allow them to
overpower the other branches. One of these powers is an executive order, which the President can use in some situations. The most interesting parts of
the concept of an executive order include what it is, its history, and the restrictions of executive orders. Executive orders are orders written by the...

The first use of an executive order came on April 22, 1793, when President George Washington used an executive order to instruct federal officers to
prosecute U.S. citizens who became involved in the war between France and England. During the early to mid–19th century, Presidents used executive
orders; however, these executive orders were often not very controversial. Controversy surrounding executive orders starting to sweep the nation
again in 1861 when President Lincoln issued an executive order in the months preceding the Civil War. During the early months of 1861, a
Southerner named John Merryman led a group of Southern rebels through Maryland and Virginia fighting federal troops. Eventually, when federal
officials captured John Merryman, his attorneys argued that he had a right to see a judge before spending more time in prison. In response,
President Lincoln issued an executive order suspending habeas corpus, which is a suspect's right to see a judge after they taken to prison. In the
years following the Civil War and the early 20th century, the use of executive orders continued to rise. Due to President Theodore Roosevelt's belief
in expanding the powers of the executive branch, he quickly became the first President to issue more than 1,000 executive orders during his
presidency. However, Franklin D. Roosevelt's support for New Deal legislation and laws led to him issuing 3,522 executive orders during his time in
office (the most of any President of the United States). Furthermore, as history progressed, Presidents continued to utilize executive orders. Not
including President Trump's executive orders, the only executive orders to be struck down were orders issued by President Truman and President
Clinton. President Truman's executive order allowed the national government to seize control of all steel mills in order to prevent a worker strike.

Executive Order Conversation Report
One particular conversation really got my attention. It started with comments about who would imagine seeing a Black family walking up the stairs
into the most famous house in the world, as the Boss. That comment migrated into alledged executive orders. That's Johhny Reb type talk! The first
such comment in reference to what Johnny claimed the first Executive Order was to be. The order was for the groundskeepers to build a watermelon
patch in back of the White House. The next so–called Executive Order was the Inaugeration Dinner was going to consist of fried chicken, collard
greens, back–eyed peas, corn bread, and of course chitlins. Desert would consist of nanner puddin, sweet potato pie, or some kind of cobbler. There

Trump's Executive Order On Immigration
On January 27, 2017, President Trump issued an executive order that suspended entry of all refugees into the United States for one–hundred and twenty
days. The order obstructed Syrian refugees for an unspecific time and blocked entry into the United States for ninety days for citizens of seven
Muslim countries, such as: Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Yemen. This order also banned green card holder from these seven countries.
Hans von Spakovsky has written many different articles on the subject of immigration, civil rights, civil justice, and the rule of law and government

Executive Order Research Paper
Evaluation The president of the United States has always been viewed as someone who holds a large amount of power within the United States.
This power spans to a number of areas, but perhaps one of the most commonly heard of is executive order. However, though many have inevitably
heard these words how many can say that they truly know what they mean? Not only this, but once an understanding of this power has been set in
place the question of what types of checks and balances are set in place to keep this power in line with the Constitution is still present. Therefore,
through the course of this paper these two questions will be addressed. To begin, a definition of executive orders will be given, as well as, an
explanation of the authority under which this power works. So, an executive order is a written form which the president uses to direct the... Show more

A man who was a Justice is the one who established a tripartite scheme for determining if a president overstepped his or her bounds. This tripartite
boiled down to the presidents power to act if Congress had approved, the presidents ability to act on independent power when Congress is silent on
the matter, and the presidents ability to act in his or her own domain disputed Congress's objection. This framework is one that has withstood the test
of time and ultimately helped Congress establish when an executive order is still in line with the Constitution and when it is not. In the end, the reason
why these checks and balances have to be in place is because without them the president could attempt to act outside of what this power actually
provides. Historically this has already happened, and that is why Justice Jackson created a way to decide whether or not the president had overstepped
his grounds with an executive

President Trump signed an executive order on Thursday, the same day that thousands commemorated the National Day of Prayer, that claimed to
"vigorously enforce Federal law's robust protections for religious freedom." The order, titled the 'Presidential Executive Order Promoting Free
Speech and Religious Liberty,' requires the Secretary of the Treasury to "not take any adverse action" against those who speak out about "moral or
political issues from a religious perspective." It also requires the Secretary of the Treasury and the Secretary of Labor to "consider issuing amended

candidates, a recent study has shown that most Americans – and Christians – do not believe religious leaders should endorse or oppose political
candidates from the pulpit. A LifeWay Research study has shown that almost 80 percent of Americans disagreed with the idea that "it is appropriate
for pastors to publicly endorse political candidates during a church service." Only 20 percent of Protestants, 13 percent of Catholics, and 25 percent of
evangelicals supported the idea. Since the signing of the executive order, many religious leaders have responded with disappointment that the bill has

President Johnson 's Vision Of Creating A Great Society
Abstract
Programs to stimulate growth of minority–owned businesses have existed in the United States since the late 1960s. President Johnson's vision of
creating a "Great Society" led to a host of endeavors that sought to change the political, social and economic landscape of the U.S. In his 1965
commencement address to graduates of Howard University, LBJ gave voice to his vision, declaring, "We seek not just freedom but opportunity. We
seek not just legal equity but human ability, not just equality as a right and a theory but equality as a fact and equality as a result." There has been
Executive Orders issued by the President of the United States throughout history to carry out and to promote minority–owned businesses:

For the first time, EO 11246 charged the Secretary of Labor, a Cabinet–level official with strong enforcement authority, with the responsibility of
ensuring equal opportunity for minorities in federal contractors' recruitment, hiring, training and other employment practices. Until that time, such
efforts had been in the hands of various Presidential committees. EO 11246 continued and reinforced the requirement that federal contractors not
discriminate in employment and take affirmative action to ensure equal opportunity based on race, color, religion, and national origin.
Signed by President Johnson that early autumn Friday 50 years ago, EO 11246 became a key landmark in a series of federal actions aimed at ending
racial, religious and ethnic discrimination, an effort that dated back to the anxious days before the U.S. was thrust into World War II.
Today, Executive Order 11246, as amended and further strengthened over the years, remains a major safeguard, protecting the rights of workers
employed by federal contractors–approximately one–fifth of the entire U.S. labor force–to remain free from discrimination on the basis of their race,
color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin...and opening the doors of opportunity through its

Executive Order 12898
The prevalence of environmental issues in the public awareness reached a point where government was forced to take action in 1979. When Henry
Love abandoned construction of a canal in New York in 1920, the site was bought by Hooker Chemical and used as a toxic chemical waste dumping
site for the next 33 years (Schons 2011). Then in 1953 Hooker Chemical sold the Love Canal to the school board, and construction of a school began.
In the mid to late 1970s, when children's shoes began melting to the ground and children got sick the residents organized and protested. Media
coverage increased and showed toxic black sludge oozing into people's basements (Schons 2011). The lack of awareness of environmental and health

order also established an Interagency Working Group on Environmental Justice (Bernier, C. J. 2013). Executive Order 12898 was intended to ensure
the full implementation and to supplement the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 promoting environmental justice awareness in all US
environmental policy. It was also designed to supplement already existing law prohibiting discrimination of any kind in programs receiving funding

Executive Orders Essay
In Trump's first 11 days as president of the U.S. several executive orders and memoranda were signed affecting millions of Americans. President
memoranda and executive orders are both are documents signed by the president directing the federal government to take action. They differ in the fact
that executive orders are immediately published in the federal register giving them instantaneous force of law while memoranda is only published at
the presidents choice making them non–binding guidelines. Arguably, President Trump's most controversial orders are "Border Security And

including Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. People with green cards and students studying in American universities were denied
entry in the U.S. after traveling abroad. They were detained for hours and others were sent to their original country causing great panic and
emotional stress. For example, "Hammed Khalid Darweesh, an interpreter who worked for the U.S. government began to cry when speaking to
reporters after 19 hours of detention" (Michael D. Shear pg. 5). Many people who have no intentions of hurting America are being affected. Refugees
of war stricken countries who were already approved to arrive in the united states are now worried about their future. Students and work professionals
who were only coming to help America are unable to. Detaining skilled people entry will only hurt America's economy America has a history of

For many, high school is the last time one spends any large portion of time reading, discussing and analyzing novels. This means that this is the last
chance for these students to develop important literacy skills. While literacy skills such as reading critically are important, the Ontario Ministry of
Education clarifies that "Literacy is about more than reading or writing – it is about how we communicate in society. It is about social practices and
relationships, about knowledge, language and culture," (Ontario Ministry of Education 3). The novels read in school form a big part of learning about
these topics and developing compassion and understanding across society and therefore, should be chosen carefully to maximize the development of
students as citizens of the world. Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy and Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky should not be taught in schools because they
demonstrate values which do not promote cultural tolerance. They demonstrate negative attitudes toward the marginalized communities, glamorize gun
use and focus only on a man's view of the world.
Rainbow Six follows a newly instated international terrorist–fighting team called Rainbow. The two field teams that make up Rainbow are entirely

Fixed Price Contract provides for various acquisitions as described below:

How can Warranty and Contract Management benefit the Government Customer?
The management of warranty and contracts is a key aspect of procurement both for the government and the contractors. While there are numerous
advantages of maintaining an effective contract system, some of the key benefits include; tracking, contract vendors and their contact details, and
knowing the assets covered under the contracts. It also assists in maintaining the profiles of all the client contracts under a single space.
The primary benefit of warranty and contract management is the reduction of administrative overhead costs. Hoskisson & Hitt (2008) explain that, with
a centralized log of assets and contracts, the misuse of resources is heavily minimized, thus giving the management an opportunity to allocate resources
where they are needed. Further, this translates into immediate savings of costs for the government customer owing to the decommissioning of outdated

Social Injustice In Antigone
In our society filled with social injustice and violence, is it safe to protest unjust actions by the public? As seen in many current events and fictional
representations, the world around us still suffers many social issues. When people are faced with injustice, every individual has the should protest and
fight for their rights, but not without considering the consequences.
Sophocles' play Antigone is an example of when failing to consider the consequences can be fatal, as seen in the actions of the character Antigone. In
the prologue, when Antigone is telling Ismene her plan to bury her brother against Creon's decree, she says, "Ismene, I am going to bury him. Will you
come?...Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way" (Sophocles, prologue). Antigone is unhappy during the prologue and acts reckless, even when
informed that the punishment is a public stoning in the town square. Regardless of the punishment, Antigone is trying to protest Creon's decree without
considering the penalties that follow. Later in the book, when Antigone is being tried for violating Creon's decree, she is disrespectful and quite rude
to Creon, stating, "This talking is a great weariness: your words / Are distasteful to me" (Sophocles, scene II). Her dialogue shows her lack of
sensitivity and respect towards Creon, which ultimately leads to her death. Her actions reflect the lack of consideration of the consequences and it goes
to show Antigone's bad judgment when protesting Creon's decree.

Trump signs executive order to keep out 'radical Islamic terrorists' In late January 2017, President Trump signed an executive order banning

Although the order does not specifically ban Muslims, many claim that it indeed does because the countries that are affected are predominantly

The Impact Of The Executive Order
The Internet, as we all know, has rapidly spread around since its commercialization in the 1990s. It is evident that cybersecurity attacks are not going
anywhere, and that government will continue to remain a target. In addition, the Internet of Things (IoT) growth will lead to more devices being
connected to the networks. Therefore, with technology moving forward and hackers being more motivated as ever, the government finds itself
struggling to keep up with effective cybersecurity measures and with filling up the designated positions in the Cybersecurity department. On May 11,

Another thing the government should be focusing on is to stop buying on cyber technology from other countries and start relying on cyber
technology done in the U.S. By relying on technology from other countries, it makes us a target therefore, placing us at more risk. Why? Because
they might know or have an idea in which areas we are lacking based on the technology that we buy from them. As far as we know, they might have
a hidden agenda on how and when to attack. Don't get me wrong the government already follows this policy to some extent but they should try use it
more. As I said before, these are all great goals for the next few years but what has been done since this new EO was established? In August 2017, the

government was lagging on replacing outdated softwares, patching, individual endpoint defense and IP address activities that showed that they may

Wife avers that the court abused its discretion by failing to permit Wife to enter evidence regarding Husband's assets between the time when the court
granted the divorce and 90 days thereafter. When a party to a divorce proceeding seeks a marital property award, the trial court must undertake a
three–step process which may culminate in a monetary award. . . . First, for each disputed item of property, the court must determine whether it is
marital or nonmarital. . . . Second, the court must determine the value of all marital property. . . . Third, the court must decide if the division of
marital property according to title would be unfair. If so, the chancellor may make a monetary award to rectify any inequity created by way in which
property acquired during marriage happened to be titled.
Brown v. Brown, 195 Md. App. 72, 109–10 (2010) (emphases, quotations, and citations omitted). Notably, the court may only transfer ownership of
marital property or make a monetary award "after the court determines which property is marital property, and the value of the marital property." Md.
Code (1984, 2012 Repl. Vol., 2015 Suppl.), В§ 8–205(a) of the Family Law Article ("FL"). With respect to determining the value of marital property,
the Maryland Code provides:

Donald Trump Executive Order
After the first week of Donald Trump's presidency many changes have been occurring in the country. A continuous stream of executive orders signed
by the President are causing extreme controversy. Executive Order: Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into The United States, the
more moderate version of the "Muslim ban" that President Trump called for during his campaign was signed on Friday. Some people who were still
in the air when Trump signed the order were detained or sent back to where they flew in from when they landed. This led to people being detained in
airports sparking numerous protests at airports across the country, calling the order unconstitutional. On Saturday, a federal judge temporarily stayed
the order, stopping people from being detained and deported from the country.

Students, for example, are worried about their future under Trump. It is likely that he will decide to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
(DACA) that allows undocumented immigrants who arrived in the country as minors a renewable two–year period of deferred action from deportation
and eligibility for a work permit. Judging by Trump's extreme views on immigration and little interest in the protection of law–abiding undocumented
immigrants, these individuals they have a legitimate cause for concern.
Another group fearing the Trump policies are women. A recent memorandum reinstated the Mexico City policy, confirming Trump's anti

stance. As can be seen even before the reinstatement of this policy, during the Women's March, many women were concerned about their right to

Executive Order 13767
In the constitution it states that the Presidents purpose is; to be chief of state, chief executive, chief administrator, chief diplomat, commander in
chief, chief legislature, party chief, and chief citizen (The presidents job description). As the chief of legislature, one of the presidents duties is to not
only review bills being proposed by congress, and occasionally say they must be revised but to also enact laws affecting the people of the United States
immediately, rather than wait for them to move up through the many levels and debates of congress. For this, he can use the power of an executive
order, a constitutional way to provide laws that relate to national welfare or the good of the citizens. A few good example of this would be executive

Donald Trump And Xenophobia In The United States
Xenophobia – an intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries. The idea of xenophobia was heavily prominent in the 2016
presidential campaign, so it is not surprising that it was voted the word of the year for 2016 (Dictionary.com, 2016). Donald Trump is considered to be
an xenophobic politician based on his comments made against different ethnic groups, such as Mexicans; however, it is difficult to understand how a
generation that supports diversity elected a xenophobic president.
Historically speaking, there are genuinely xenophobic politicians who achieve votes from a sub–population that is indisputably xenophobic in nature.
For example, American President Andrew Jackson was elected as the 7th American President, resulting in the execution of the Indian Removal Act of
1830, "forcing several Native Americans nation to relocates from their ancestral homelands . . . all to make way for those enslaved Africans being
forcibly hauled into the Deep South" (Kendi, 2016). That being said, Americans maybe xenophobic due to significant historical events that resulted in
xenophobic policies, which eventually grew directly into the ideals of the American people. Yet, the spread of the xenophobic ideas was not only due to

Luckily, the implementation of xenophobic ideas today is must more difficult than they were in the early Americas. That being said, what differentiates

against xenophobia; therefore, in order to convince this new generation, politicians today use the media as tool to portray how xenophobia is a necessary

Executive Order 9066
Introduction
The Issei (first generation immigrants) crossed the Pacific Ocean to come to America because there was a high demand for immigrants' cheap labor.
The Japanese left everything familiar to them. They established their own communities of Japanese culture. The Japanese were discriminated and
faced with racial injustice. The Pearl Harbor attack was a spark for more people to hate Japanese living in the United States. Then the Executive order
signed by Roosevelt forced hundreds of Japanese Americans to leave their homes and go to interment camps because people feared they were spies
for Japan. Most young men wanted to prove their loyalty to America and restore family honor so they joined the war.

Executive Order In Texas
The United States Federal Government has different views about abortion. These "different" views directly affect the women of America. The
President produces an Executive Order. Congress puts a "rider" in place and the Courts begin legal abortion in 1973. Executive Order Number
13535 concerning the Affordable Care Act was ordered by President Obama in 2014. This Act mandated health care for all Americans and is
sometimes called Obama Care. This executive order was to make clear that the government would not allow us of federal funds for abortion services.
The only exception was in case of incest, rape, or the health of the mother. The order also mentions the Hyde Amendment as one of its foundations

Wade) that a women had the right to seek legal abortion and that right was a fundamental right, there were many debates on the validly of the
ruling. In March of 2016, the Supreme Court showed how divided the court is when it comes to abortion which they made legal back in 1973. It is
not so much if a woman has the right to an abortion as it5 is who pays or helps pay for it. Texas put in place a series of "stop" measures on abortion
by requiring very constricted rules for abortion in that state. In Texas, as many as twenty legal abortion clinics were closed due to the strict rules
governing their clinics. The questions for the Supreme Court is if these rules are for the health of the women and fetus or a way of stopping abortions
altogether. The states cannot help pay for abortions according to the President's Executive Order which is another issue. Again, the Federal
Government is controlling the lives of women by citing the Affordable Care Act or ACA and court rulings. Health Insurance does not pay for abortions
and the government supports the health industry. September 30, 1976 the United States House of Representatives passed the Hype Amendment. The
amendment was presented by Henry Hyde, a republican from Illinois. Clearly the Hyde Amendment was a victory for the pro–life movement. This
amendment has been attached to appropriations bills prohibiting the federal government from funding abortions. The Hyde Amendment is a "rider"
because it has been attached to many legislative actions through the years since 1993. Even President Clinton was successful in changing the wording
of Hyde expanding the list of ways that the federal government could use funds under Medicaid in some states helps low–income women receive state
help to pay for abortions. More states are changing, gradually, and are helping women receive safe and affordable abortions. There are laws have been

Executive Orders And Their Constitutionality Essay
Executive Orders and Their Constitutionality Although nowhere in the Constitution are executive orders explicitly mentioned, Article II, Section I
states that "The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America." The President's power to issue executive orders comes
from the Constitution and Congress. Executive orders have the full force of law when they take authority from a legislative power, which grants its
power directly to the executive by the Constitution; executive orders do not require congressional approval. Similar to legislative statutes and
regulations propagated by government agencies, executive orders are subject to judicial review, meaning that they can be struck down if deemed
unconstitutional by the courts. Executive orders are not to be confused with executive agreements. Executive order carries out constitutional powers of
the President without having to go through Congress. An executive agreement is an agreement with foreign heads of state concluded by Presidents
under their power as Commander in Chief and their general authority in foreign affairs; executive agreements do not require ratification by the Senate.
Examples of executive agreements include trade deals and military actions. Executive orders have been around since 1789, when George Washington
was President of the United States, although until the early 1900s executive orders were unannounced and undocumented. Since 1789 more than 13,000

III.FACTS:
During World War II, President Franklin Roosevelt signed executive order 9066 that ordered those with "Foreign Enemy Ancestry" to be moved to
internment camps. Congressional statues provided the military the ability to remove Japanese citizens from any area that would be crucial to national
defense. The petitioner was Fred Korematsu and the respondent is the United States. The issue at hand was Korematsu lived in San Leandro California
who was ordered to move to a Japanese internment camp. After refusing to leave San Leandro Korematsu was arrested and convicted. Korematsu
claimed the executive order was against the fifth amendment. After bringing the case to the court of appeals he lost and appealed to the Supreme Court

COURT DECISION
The Supreme Court decided the case on December 18, 1944. The executive order held and supported the idea of moving Japanese Americans to
internment camps during World War II. The Justices who supported the United States were Reed, Black, Stone, Douglas, Rutledge, and Frankfurter.
The Justices opposed were Murphy, Jackson, and Roberts. This was a makeup of six votes for the United States and only three votes against. The
Supreme Court agreed with the government to protect the United states during the war which overruled Korematsu individual rights. VI.OPINION
AND REASONING OF THE COURT:
While the Supreme Court reviewed the case they relied heavily on a case prior, Hirabayashi v. United States. After the president passed two executive
orders giving the secretary of war the ability to generate military areas. The other order included the ability to remove, supervise, or maintain outside
military areas.
Justice Black's weighed in his opinion which stated:
"It should be noted, to begin with, that all legal restrictions which curtail the civil rights of a single racial group are immediately suspect. That is not to
say that all such restrictions are unconstitutional. It is to say that courts must subject them to the most rigid scrutiny. Pressing public necessity may
sometimes justify the existence of such restrictions; racial antagonism never

Impact Of Executive Orders On Society
Presidential Executive Orders and The Social Impact on American Society American Presidents are constrained in the power they can wield because
of the separation of powers between the branches of government. Presidents use executive orders to compensate for their limited power. Presidents
have also taken unilateral action to address the needs and concerns of important political constituencies before Congress is ready to act. (Gitterman
2017) Executive orders assume three forms: 1) self–executing, orders that are dependent on government agencies implementing the order, 2) Altering
institutional structures and processes, and 3) Symbolic arguing tools. (Mayer 2001) Presidents also gain more control through unilateralism and
collection action because the president's order is also considered a command; when this command is given to the executive branch, it conforms to the
president's will. (Rudalevige 2012) Presidents must remember that they can be noble, but when they apply their personal beliefs to executive orders,
while ignoring public sentiment, executive opinions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Cooper 2001) Executive orders can also influence program funding, such as welfare and food assistance, healthcare, and social security under vague
legislative instructions directing agencies to decrease funds to the programs. (Orentlicher 2017) Economic policies of the federal government are
often influenced by executive orders that can cause an increase or decrease in federal revenue; a weak economy with higher taxes makes it harder for
families in poverty to meet basic needs, but a strong long–term economy provides increased revenue to the federal government, which could be used to
fund more social programs and reduce the poverty rate. (Gittell

The Evolving United States Government Essays
Like nature, the United States government has evolved to meet the demands of an ever growing population, the increasing terrorist threat, and a new
state of mind in terms of what government should look like. Each branch of the federal system plays a key role in controlling the populace. The
Executive branch handles day–to–day maintenance of the federal government, makes sure laws are enforced and carried out, as well as represents the
U.S. to foreign interests. The Legislative branch passes laws and allocates funds for use in running the federal government and providing assistance to
the states. The Judicial branch hears cases that involve disputes between interpretations of the laws or those that challenge them. A delicate balance...

Cuba, due to the sinking of the U.S. Maine was taken over, and is now regulated by the U.S. government as a result of the Spanish–American War,
while China was forced to keep an Open Door Policy, which caused the Boxer Rebellion. After World War Two, America became the leading world
power, the foreign policy opened up with the creation of the United Nations, Marshall Plan, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. During the
Cold War, the main objective was to prevent the spread of Communism; however, afterwards global peace became the main objective ("War..."). Third,
what changes have been made to each power? The executive branch has grown the most since the late 1800's. Abraham Lincoln used his position as
Commander–in–Chief, and used the Chief Executive Clause in his Emancipation Proclamation to build an army to take over the South, as well as,
suspended liberties (habeas corpus). This showed the executive branch gained power in times of war, causing it to have more power than the other
branches (Yoo, John). Theodore Roosevelt used all powers of the president to further his agendas, without extending from the Constitution. In his
"Square Deal", he pressed for more government involvement in the U.S. economy and regulation of business, as well as, more legislative powers for
the president. ("American..."). Woodrow Wilson's "New Freedom" created the Federal

The Pros And Cons Of Executive Orders
Executive order is a rule or order issued by the president to an executive branch of the government and having the force of law. Executive Order (EOs)
were used since President George Washington but were not mandated to be publicly released until 1900. To date, there have been thirteen thousand
eight hundred and seven executive orders. Many argue that these orders are unconstitutional as it gives one–person authority to make changes without
consequences and without the consent of Congress. The term executive order is not a principle found within the Constitution. EO is derived from
Article II, Section I of the Constitution in which it states, "the executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America". The term
executive power was never defined, leaving it open to the interpretation of each president. That statement coupled with Article II, Section III "he shall
take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed" has been the backbone of how presidents have been able to create these orders.
It is equally important to note that executive orders are not the only way a president can exercise his authority. His other vehicles are presidential
memorandums, actions or proclamations. As with executive orders, memorandums, actions and proclamations aren't defined within the U.S.
Constitution and used at the discretion of each president. There is no legal difference between the four actions but executive orders have to be
numbered and published with

The Japanese American Citizens League
The Japanese American Citizens League, also known by the acronym JACL, is a Nisei organization founded in 1929 with the initial goal of lobbying
for Japanese–American Civil Rights while promoting the integration of citizens into American culture. Since its inception the JACL has expanded its
mandate to focus on lobbying for the Civil Rights of all Asian–American citizens and protecting Japanese–American cultural heritage. The JACL is
considered one of the oldest and one of the most influential national organizations promoting social justice and equality throughout the country. The
actions of the JACL have frequently been shaped by and frame in response to varying historical events as well as both public prejudice and political
attitudes. As a result, the organization has, at times, been both critiqued by the Asian–American community for its support of racist government
policies and praised for its opposition of legislative discrimination. In particular the organization has been criticized for its complacency during World
War Two (1939–1945) with the federal government 's discriminatory internment of Japanese–American citizens. The origins of the JACL reside in the
large number of Asian immigrants into the United States at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century who typically took up
residence in the regions along the American west coast. Despite being earnest labourers, entrepreneurs, and American citizens those of Asian ancestry

The Importance Of Executive Orders
Executive orders have been an influential part of America dating back to George Washington. There are now more than 1300 numbered executive
orders since the early 1900s. Not including the ones unnumbered, lost, or not on record (Mott, Ph.D. Jonathan D.). Executive orders influence and
affect the executive branch, the Constitution, presidents, and our personal opinion. An executive order is a "presidential directive to a federal
government agency or agencies that implement or interpret a federal statute, a congressional provision, or a treaty (Magleby, David B)." Executive
orders do not require congressional approval meaning the President does not have to run his order through Congress to get it passed. However,
Congress and Federal courts can annul any executive order that surpasses the president's authority. The president expresses his executive authority by
signing an executive order that Congress wouldn't pass, which is why it's so controversial. Executive orders are controversial because people believe it
provides the executive branch with too much power, which contradicts the Constitution. Many people believe Congress should be able to oversee the
procedures and orders the president is signing. Additionally, Checks and Balances and the Separation of Powers doctrine limits the authority of each
branch. However, in the Constitution, it says the president can issue an executive order without congressional approval. For the president to issue such
orders, it must come

Perambulatory Clauses Of Executive Order 20
Executive Order No. 20's Content
In the preamble of Executive Order No. 20, Governor Haslam asserts that "establishing, communicating, complying with, and enforcing a
comprehensive ethics policy within the Executive Branch... essential to maintaining public trust in government and ensuring the proper performance of
government." After the perambulatory clauses, Executive Order 20 adheres very closely to the basic format previously suggested that most state
government follow. The first operative clause clarifies that theethics policy applies to all Executive Branch employees – over 43,000 people – unless
otherwise noted. The second clause discusses potential conflict of interests to avoid: "using public office for personal gain, giving preferential
treatment to any individual, impeding government efficiency and economy, losing complete independence or impartiality, making government
decisions outside of official channels, and affecting adversely the confidence of the public in integrity of government" (pg. 1–2).
The third clause actually covers three somewhat disparate areas:
1.Financial Interests;
2.Use of Information; and
3.Use of Government Property.
The fourth clause governs the receipt of gifts, the exceptions thereof, and disclosure procedures. Interestingly, the exceptions list is longer than the gift
rule itself. For example gifts from immediate family members or those with whom you have a close personal friendship are acceptable, which seems
logical.

Executive Orders Of The American Presidency
Executive Orders in the American PresidencyBy Niraj PatelPOLI 100A Prof. James Ingram By definition, an executive order is "a presidential
policy directive that implements or interprets a federal statute, a constitutional provision, or a treaty."An executive order can also be categorized
under executive directives, and executive proclamation. (1) Though many may think of an executive order as an alternative term for a 'presidential
proclamation ', it is not. Presidential proclamations are strictly reserved for public policy and for ceremonial purposes, such as the declaration of a
day for remembrance, etc. Executive orders find their roots from not only the U.S. Constitution, but Congress as well. Though it 's powers are
derived from outside of the executive branch, executive orders do not require any sort of approval whatsoever, and the president can utilize these
orders to set up policy and rules while ultimately negating any thought of public opposition. Furthermore, executive orders have the ability to be
applied to a wide range of activities and categories, and in the past they have; from implementing internment camps during WWII, sending U.S. troops
abroad, to ideals such as increasing the area of national forests. What makes executive orders such a hot topic is that historically, these orders only
regulated the internal operational factors of governmental/federal agencies as well as to regulate and oversee public lands, but more recently, has

Less than one year into his second presidency, Franklin D. Roosevelt was tasked with consoling a country in a national state of hysteria. Events in
World War II, including the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, lead to inflated paranoia and hostility towards people of Japanese descent in America. As
a response to the Americans citizens anxiety,Franklin D. Roosevelt passed Executive Order 9066 in 1942. This order gave military personnel the
authority to designate areas to be Internment camps to exile and deprive the rights of Japanese aliens, as well as innocent Japanese Americans.

History commonly repeats itself and America's political trends seem to be mirroring those of President Roosevelt's time period. Donald Trump recently
attempted to enact a travel ban on many middle eastern countries, he did this with the intentions of decreasing American fear of terror threats and
controlling radical islamic terrorist by targeting majority islamic countries and essentially banning them from America. This travel ban is eerily similar
to Executive Order 9066. Both President Roosevelt and President Trump utilize modern technology, favor isolationist values, avoid taking moral
responsibility for their actions, and fail to honor traditional American values. They also share the fact that their actions and foreign policies encouraged
racial hostility and perpetuating stereotypes. The only apparent difference between these presidents is that President Trump has an example before him,
giving him an insight on how his actions may play out in the real world, while Roosevelt could only guess how his would play out. No matter how
thoroughly President Roosevelt thought about his decision to sign Executive Order 9066, he could not have predicted the outcome. An American
president doing something of this nature was unheard of and never done before, like many of his actions. Although he

During World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union created an alliance to prevent Nazi Germany from spreading their fascist and radical
ideals, but after the war, it quickly became apparent that both countries had intentions to exploit their previously stable relationship. Shortly after World
War II, the Soviet Union made it their primary goal to expand their communist policies across Europe (and eventually the world). Their communist
policies heavily contradicted the reason why the United States joined World War II, contrasted American ideals, and placed American democracy in
jeopardy. Although relations seemed healthy shortly after the war, the relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union dwindled to war

The United States involved itself in World War II to preserve democracy, but when Joseph Stalin made it his top priority to spread communism across
Europe, the United States' goal was endangered. As a result, in 1947, President Harry Truman created Executive Order 9835, which called for "a
loyalty investigation of every person entering the civilian employment of any department or agency of the executive branch of the Federal
Government" (Document 1). Truman's Executive Order exhibits a clear distrust of the protection of American ideals, as Truman would have never
instituted this policy if he were not paranoid of the communistic plague. Truman's paranoia was not only displayed by Executive Order 9835, but also
emulated by the American people. Truman's Doctrine spurred fear across the American public, most prominently showed in the trial of Julius and Ethel
Rosenberg. The Rosenberg's were unfairly tried and biasedly considered communists by the American government, ultimately resulting in execution. As
seen by Elliot Erwitt's photographs, the American public was enraged and feared communist ideals (Document

In Response To Executive Order 9096 By Dwight Okita
Should a person be happy with society or should feel as if society should be constantly changing? Many authors have differing opinions on this
subject. Some authors believe that people should be happy with society how it is and others believe that if society keeps changing and advancing it
will become better as a whole. The truth is, if we all stay at ease with society there will be fewer problems. The idea that a person should learn to be
happy with their society is demonstrated in the poem "In Response to Executive Order 9066" by Dwight Okita. In this poem it describes a Japanese
American girl getting sent away to a camp and has to leave her best friend, who is a caucasian young girl. The Japanese American girl goes to

Thinking Like A Historian Module Analyzes American Response To Holocaust

  • 1. How Do The Author Characterize The Thinking Like A Historian Module Two: Thinking like a Historian Part One 1.)How do the authors characterize the American response to the Holocaust, and what explanation(s) do they give for that conduct? Both authors mentioned the possibility of the American people could have had an effect on the president's lack of action. Wyman's suggested the "anti–Semitism" and the "anti–immigration" for being an influence on the nation. Breitman and Lichtman also mentioned that the anti–Semitism could have provided the president with "backlash at home." Many Americans were still against immigration due to their issues in the past. The thought of Jews seeking shelter inside the United States upset many. Americans began thinking that the fleeing Jews would come over and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What ethical standards do the authors use in making their assessments? Wyman did not give many positive assessments on the U.S. government or the President. Wyman's article focused on why Roosevelt was not passionate about helping the Jews by stopping the Nazi group. Breitman and Lichtman views the response of the U.S. government and the President on a more positive note. They suggested that Roosevelt was working "behind the scenes" on majority of his attempts to execute a plan to aid the Jews. They thought that Roosevelt was working around the political rim without stepping on toes that could have put his presidency in jeopardy. Breitman and Lichtman used a more understanding approach in deducing their assessments. They looked on Roosevelt's side of the story. It could have been the political hoops he had to jump through that many civilians would not understand. Even the President of a country has limitations to his power (Breitman and Lictman). 4.)What ethical standard would you use to evaluate the conduct of President Roosevelt and the U.S. government? I would use a morally just ethical standard. The president and the U.S. government needed to push the issue to intervene as quickly as they could. They needed to have a meeting and working every issue out even if it took three days straight. Their top priory should have been stopping this work of evil. Part Two 1.)Based on these primary sources, how would you characterize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Executive Order 8802 With the coming of World War II, African Americans were arguably elevated to a higher standing in society due to the total war effort. But what part would Presidential and Military action take in this advancement since their duty is to protect their citizens? And would the efforts from these offices triumph over the racial prejudice that ruled American society, and most importantly, would their legacy last for an improved quality of life for a good portion of the US population. With these questions in mind, Executive Orders No. 8802 and 9981 as well as President Franklin D. Roosevelt's call for increased admission of African Americans in the Armed Forces alone did not create change in social perception of Black US citizens, at times highlighting barriers to social equality, but did sow the roots for economic opportunity and in turn gave... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the nationwide race riots in particular, the Detroit Race Riot of 1943, demonstrates the lack of change in perspective and the strains the Executive Order 8802 placed on communities. The large–scale chaos occurred after a fistfight from white disdain for the influx of black people looking for work in automobile factories. With the inability to house the Southern immigrants, racial tensions grew stronger in the city already known for white supremacy group the Ku Klux Klan's influence. The deaths of 25 blacks from the violence of police brutality and prejudices show that initiatives aimed at the labor force in fact had minimal influence over the established institutions that ruled the cities harboring large populations of African Americans. They in fact created tensions that would further target the blacks and prevent a social equality at a local scale. That said, the article fails to mention the improved quality of life for the 1.6 Million who left the South with their Jim Crow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Executive Order 906 Essay Ten weeks after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs Executive Order 9066, authorizing the removal of any or all people from military areas "as deemed necessary or desirable." The military in turn defined the entire West Coast, home to the majority of Americans of Japanese ancestry or citizenship, as a military area. By June, more than 110,000 Japanese Americans were relocated to remote internment camps built by the U.S. military in scattered locations around the country. For the next two and a half years, many of these Japanese Americans endured extremely difficult living conditions and poor treatment by their military guards. Executive Order 9066 was a United States presidential executive order signed and issued during World War II by the United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 19, 1942, authorizing the Secretary of War to prescribe certain areas as military zones, clearing the way for the deportation of Japanese Americans and Italian–Americans to internment camps. On December 17, 1944, U.S. Major General Henry C. Pratt issued Public Proclamation No. 21, declaring that, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Japanese immigrants and their descendants, regardless of American citizenship status or length of residence, were systematically rounded up and placed in detention centers. Evacuees, as they were sometimes called, could take only as many possessions as they could carry and were housed in crude, cramped quarters. In the western states, camps on remote and barren sites such as Manzanar and Tule Lake housed thousands of families whose lives were interrupted and in some cases destroyed by Executive Order 9066. • 4. Executive Order History As the Founders of the United States and the Framers of the Constitution started designing the government of the new United States, they made sure to balance the powers of the three branches of government in order to create a fair and equal government. However, these intelligent men knew very well that they could not actually create a perfect government, and as a result, some branches of government possess certain powers that allow them to overpower the other branches. One of these powers is an executive order, which the President can use in some situations. The most interesting parts of the concept of an executive order include what it is, its history, and the restrictions of executive orders. Executive orders are orders written by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first use of an executive order came on April 22, 1793, when President George Washington used an executive order to instruct federal officers to prosecute U.S. citizens who became involved in the war between France and England. During the early to mid–19th century, Presidents used executive orders; however, these executive orders were often not very controversial. Controversy surrounding executive orders starting to sweep the nation again in 1861 when President Lincoln issued an executive order in the months preceding the Civil War. During the early months of 1861, a Southerner named John Merryman led a group of Southern rebels through Maryland and Virginia fighting federal troops. Eventually, when federal officials captured John Merryman, his attorneys argued that he had a right to see a judge before spending more time in prison. In response, President Lincoln issued an executive order suspending habeas corpus, which is a suspect's right to see a judge after they taken to prison. In the years following the Civil War and the early 20th century, the use of executive orders continued to rise. Due to President Theodore Roosevelt's belief in expanding the powers of the executive branch, he quickly became the first President to issue more than 1,000 executive orders during his presidency. However, Franklin D. Roosevelt's support for New Deal legislation and laws led to him issuing 3,522 executive orders during his time in office (the most of any President of the United States). Furthermore, as history progressed, Presidents continued to utilize executive orders. Not including President Trump's executive orders, the only executive orders to be struck down were orders issued by President Truman and President Clinton. President Truman's executive order allowed the national government to seize control of all steel mills in order to prevent a worker strike. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Executive Order Conversation Report One particular conversation really got my attention. It started with comments about who would imagine seeing a Black family walking up the stairs into the most famous house in the world, as the Boss. That comment migrated into alledged executive orders. That's Johhny Reb type talk! The first such comment in reference to what Johnny claimed the first Executive Order was to be. The order was for the groundskeepers to build a watermelon patch in back of the White House. The next so–called Executive Order was the Inaugeration Dinner was going to consist of fried chicken, collard greens, back–eyed peas, corn bread, and of course chitlins. • 6. Trump's Executive Order On Immigration On January 27, 2017, President Trump issued an executive order that suspended entry of all refugees into the United States for one–hundred and twenty days. The order obstructed Syrian refugees for an unspecific time and blocked entry into the United States for ninety days for citizens of seven Muslim countries, such as: Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Yemen. This order also banned green card holder from these seven countries. Hans von Spakovsky has written many different articles on the subject of immigration, civil rights, civil justice, and the rule of law and government reform. • 7. Executive Order Research Paper Evaluation The president of the United States has always been viewed as someone who holds a large amount of power within the United States. This power spans to a number of areas, but perhaps one of the most commonly heard of is executive order. However, though many have inevitably heard these words how many can say that they truly know what they mean? Not only this, but once an understanding of this power has been set in place the question of what types of checks and balances are set in place to keep this power in line with the Constitution is still present. Therefore, through the course of this paper these two questions will be addressed. To begin, a definition of executive orders will be given, as well as, an explanation of the authority under which this power works. So, an executive order is a written form which the president uses to direct the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A man who was a Justice is the one who established a tripartite scheme for determining if a president overstepped his or her bounds. This tripartite boiled down to the presidents power to act if Congress had approved, the presidents ability to act on independent power when Congress is silent on the matter, and the presidents ability to act in his or her own domain disputed Congress's objection. This framework is one that has withstood the test of time and ultimately helped Congress establish when an executive order is still in line with the Constitution and when it is not. In the end, the reason why these checks and balances have to be in place is because without them the president could attempt to act outside of what this power actually provides. Historically this has already happened, and that is why Justice Jackson created a way to decide whether or not the president had overstepped his grounds with an executive ... Executive Order Persuasive Essay President Trump signed an executive order on Thursday, the same day that thousands commemorated the National Day of Prayer, that claimed to "vigorously enforce Federal law's robust protections for religious freedom." The order, titled the 'Presidential Executive Order Promoting Free Speech and Religious Liberty,' requires the Secretary of the Treasury to "not take any adverse action" against those who speak out about "moral or political issues from a religious perspective." It also requires the Secretary of the Treasury and the Secretary of Labor to "consider issuing amended regulations, consistent with applicable law, to address conscience–based objections" to the Obamacare mandate requiring companies to provide coverage for birth control.... Though the order was meant to fulfill Trump's campaign promise to repeal the Johnson Amendment of 1954, which prohibits tax–exempt organizations from endorsing or actively opposing political candidates, a recent study has shown that most Americans – and Christians – do not believe religious leaders should endorse or oppose political candidates from the pulpit. A LifeWay Research study has shown that almost 80 percent of Americans disagreed with the idea that "it is appropriate for pastors to publicly endorse political candidates during a church service." Only 20 percent of Protestants, 13 percent of Catholics, and 25 percent of evangelicals supported the idea. Since the signing of the executive order, many religious leaders have responded with disappointment that the bill has offered individuals or organizations protection from penalties when they are acting on their religious conscience. • 9. President Johnson 's Vision Of Creating A Great Society Abstract Programs to stimulate growth of minority–owned businesses have existed in the United States since the late 1960s. President Johnson's vision of creating a "Great Society" led to a host of endeavors that sought to change the political, social and economic landscape of the U.S. In his 1965 commencement address to graduates of Howard University, LBJ gave voice to his vision, declaring, "We seek not just freedom but opportunity. We seek not just legal equity but human ability, not just equality as a right and a theory but equality as a fact and equality as a result." For the first time, EO 11246 charged the Secretary of Labor, a Cabinet–level official with strong enforcement authority, with the responsibility of ensuring equal opportunity for minorities in federal contractors' recruitment, hiring, training and other employment practices. Until that time, such efforts had been in the hands of various Presidential committees. EO 11246 continued and reinforced the requirement that federal contractors not discriminate in employment and take affirmative action to ensure equal opportunity based on race, color, religion, and national origin. Signed by President Johnson that early autumn Friday 50 years ago, EO 11246 became a key landmark in a series of federal actions aimed at ending racial, religious and ethnic discrimination, an effort that dated back to the anxious days before the U.S. was thrust into World War II. Today, Executive Order 11246, as amended and further strengthened over the years, remains a major safeguard, protecting the rights of workers employed by federal contractors–approximately one–fifth of the entire U.S. labor force–to remain free from discrimination on the basis of their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin...and opening the doors of opportunity through its ... When Henry Love abandoned construction of a canal in New York in 1920, the site was bought by Hooker Chemical and used as a toxic chemical waste dumping site for the next 33 years (Schons 2011). Then in 1953 Hooker Chemical sold the Love Canal to the school board, and construction of a school began. In the mid to late 1970s, when children's shoes began melting to the ground and children got sick the residents organized and protested. They differ in the fact that executive orders are immediately published in the federal register giving them instantaneous force of law while memoranda is only published at the presidents choice making them non–binding guidelines. This means that this is the last chance for these students to develop important literacy skills. While literacy skills such as reading critically are important, the Ontario Ministry of Education clarifies that "Literacy is about more than reading or writing – it is about how we communicate in society. It is about social practices and relationships, about knowledge, language and culture," (Ontario Ministry of Education 3). The novels read in school form a big part of learning about these topics and developing compassion and understanding across society and therefore, should be chosen carefully to maximize the development of students as citizens of the world. Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy and Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky should not be taught in schools because they demonstrate values which do not promote cultural tolerance. They demonstrate negative attitudes toward the marginalized communities, glamorize gun use and focus only on a man's view of the world. Rainbow Six follows a newly instated international terrorist–fighting team called Rainbow. The two field teams that make up Rainbow are entirely made up of men. Their head is John Clark. • 17. Social Injustice In Antigone In our society filled with social injustice and violence, is it safe to protest unjust actions by the public? As seen in many current events and fictional representations, the world around us still suffers many social issues. When people are faced with injustice, every individual has the should protest and fight for their rights, but not without considering the consequences. Sophocles' play Antigone is an example of when failing to consider the consequences can be fatal, as seen in the actions of the character Antigone. In the prologue, when Antigone is telling Ismene her plan to bury her brother against Creon's decree, she says, "Ismene, I am going to bury him. Will you come?...Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way" (Sophocles, prologue). Antigone is unhappy during the prologue and acts reckless, even when informed that the punishment is a public stoning in the town square. Regardless of the punishment, Antigone is trying to protest Creon's decree without considering the penalties that follow. Later in the book, when Antigone is being tried for violating Creon's decree, she is disrespectful and quite rude to Creon, stating, "This talking is a great weariness: your words / Are distasteful to me" (Sophocles, scene II). Her dialogue shows her lack of sensitivity and respect towards Creon, which ultimately leads to her death. Her actions reflect the lack of consideration of the consequences and it goes to show Antigone's bad judgment when protesting Creon's decree. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In March of 2016, the Supreme Court showed how divided the court is when it comes to abortion which they made legal back in 1973. It is not so much if a woman has the right to an abortion as it5 is who pays or helps pay for it. Texas put in place a series of "stop" measures on abortion by requiring very constricted rules for abortion in that state. In Texas, as many as twenty legal abortion clinics were closed due to the strict rules governing their clinics. The questions for the Supreme Court is if these rules are for the health of the women and fetus or a way of stopping abortions altogether. The states cannot help pay for abortions according to the President's Executive Order which is another issue. Again, the Federal Government is controlling the lives of women by citing the Affordable Care Act or ACA and court rulings. Health Insurance does not pay for abortions and the government supports the health industry. September 30, 1976 the United States House of Representatives passed the Hype Amendment. Executive Orders And Their Constitutionality Essay Executive Orders and Their Constitutionality Although nowhere in the Constitution are executive orders explicitly mentioned, Article II, Section I states that "The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America." The President's power to issue executive orders comes from the Constitution and Congress. Executive orders have the full force of law when they take authority from a legislative power, which grants its power directly to the executive by the Constitution; executive orders do not require congressional approval. Similar to legislative statutes and regulations propagated by government agencies, executive orders are subject to judicial review, meaning that they can be struck down if deemed unconstitutional by the courts. Presidents use executive orders to compensate for their limited power. • 31. The Pros And Cons Of Executive Orders Executive order is a rule or order issued by the president to an executive branch of the government and having the force of law. Executive Order (EOs) were used since President George Washington but were not mandated to be publicly released until 1900. To date, there have been thirteen thousand eight hundred and seven executive orders. Many argue that these orders are unconstitutional as it gives one–person authority to make changes without consequences and without the consent of Congress. The term executive order is not a principle found within the Constitution. EO is derived from Article II, Section I of the Constitution in which it states, "the executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America". The term executive power was never defined, leaving it open to the interpretation of each president. That statement coupled with Article II, Section III "he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed" has been the backbone of how presidents have been able to create these orders. It is equally important to note that executive orders are not the only way a president can exercise his authority. His other vehicles are presidential memorandums, actions or proclamations. In particular the organization has been criticized for its complacency during World War Two (1939–1945) with the federal government 's discriminatory internment of Japanese–American citizens. The origins of the JACL reside in the large number of Asian immigrants into the United States at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century who typically took up residence in the regions along the American west coast. • 33. The Importance Of Executive Orders Executive orders have been an influential part of America dating back to George Washington. There are now more than 1300 numbered executive orders since the early 1900s. Not including the ones unnumbered, lost, or not on record (Mott, Ph.D. Jonathan D.). Executive orders influence and affect the executive branch, the Constitution, presidents, and our personal opinion. An executive order is a "presidential directive to a federal government agency or agencies that implement or interpret a federal statute, a congressional provision, or a treaty (Magleby, David B)." Executive orders do not require congressional approval meaning the President does not have to run his order through Congress to get it passed. However, Congress and Federal courts can annul any executive order that surpasses the president's authority. The president expresses his executive authority by signing an executive order that Congress wouldn't pass, which is why it's so controversial. Executive orders are controversial because people believe it provides the executive branch with too much power, which contradicts the Constitution. Many people believe Congress should be able to oversee the procedures and orders the president is signing. Additionally, Checks and Balances and the Separation of Powers doctrine limits the authority of each branch. However, in the Constitution, it says the president can issue an executive order without congressional approval. For the president to issue such orders, it must come ... • 34. Perambulatory Clauses Of Executive Order 20 Executive Order No. 20's Content In the preamble of Executive Order No. 20, Governor Haslam asserts that "establishing, communicating, complying with, and enforcing a comprehensive ethics policy within the Executive Branch... essential to maintaining public trust in government and ensuring the proper performance of government." After the perambulatory clauses, Executive Order 20 adheres very closely to the basic format previously suggested that most state government follow. The first operative clause clarifies that theethics policy applies to all Executive Branch employees – over 43,000 people – unless otherwise noted. The second clause discusses potential conflict of interests to avoid: "using public office for personal gain, giving preferential treatment to any individual, impeding government efficiency and economy, losing complete independence or impartiality, making government decisions outside of official channels, and affecting adversely the confidence of the public in integrity of government" (pg. 1–2). The third clause actually covers three somewhat disparate areas: 1.Financial Interests; 2.Use of Information; and 3.Use of Government Property. The fourth clause governs the receipt of gifts, the exceptions thereof, and disclosure procedures. Interestingly, the exceptions list is longer than the gift rule itself. For example gifts from immediate family members or those with whom you have a close personal friendship are acceptable, which seems logical. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Executive Orders Of The American Presidency Executive Orders in the American PresidencyBy Niraj PatelPOLI 100A Prof. James Ingram By definition, an executive order is "a presidential policy directive that implements or interprets a federal statute, a constitutional provision, or a treaty."An executive order can also be categorized under executive directives, and executive proclamation. (1) Though many may think of an executive order as an alternative term for a 'presidential proclamation ', it is not. Presidential proclamations are strictly reserved for public policy and for ceremonial purposes, such as the declaration of a day for remembrance, etc. Executive orders find their roots from not only the U.S. Constitution, but Congress as well. Though it 's powers are derived from outside of the executive branch, executive orders do not require any sort of approval whatsoever, and the president can utilize these orders to set up policy and rules while ultimately negating any thought of public opposition. Furthermore, executive orders have the ability to be applied to a wide range of activities and categories, and in the past they have; from implementing internment camps during WWII, sending U.S. troops abroad, to ideals such as increasing the area of national forests. What makes executive orders such a hot topic is that historically, these orders only regulated the internal operational factors of governmental/federal agencies as well as to regulate and oversee public lands, but more recently, has ... • 36. Executive Order 9056 Essay Less than one year into his second presidency, Franklin D. Roosevelt was tasked with consoling a country in a national state of hysteria. Events in World War II, including the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, lead to inflated paranoia and hostility towards people of Japanese descent in America. As a response to the Americans citizens anxiety,Franklin D. Roosevelt passed Executive Order 9066 in 1942. This order gave military personnel the authority to designate areas to be Internment camps to exile and deprive the rights of Japanese aliens, as well as innocent Japanese Americans. Mandatory evacuations were enforced all over the west coast, where those of Japanese descent were forced to relocate to the Internment Camps. Authorizing this situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... History commonly repeats itself and America's political trends seem to be mirroring those of President Roosevelt's time period. Donald Trump recently attempted to enact a travel ban on many middle eastern countries, he did this with the intentions of decreasing American fear of terror threats and controlling radical islamic terrorist by targeting majority islamic countries and essentially banning them from America. This travel ban is eerily similar to Executive Order 9066. Both President Roosevelt and President Trump utilize modern technology, favor isolationist values, avoid taking moral responsibility for their actions, and fail to honor traditional American values. They also share the fact that their actions and foreign policies encouraged racial hostility and perpetuating stereotypes. The only apparent difference between these presidents is that President Trump has an example before him, giving him an insight on how his actions may play out in the real world, while Roosevelt could only guess how his would play out. No matter how thoroughly President Roosevelt thought about his decision to sign Executive Order 9066, he could not have predicted the outcome. An American president doing something of this nature was unheard of and never done before, like many of his actions. Although he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Executive Order Dbq Essay During World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union created an alliance to prevent Nazi Germany from spreading their fascist and radical ideals, but after the war, it quickly became apparent that both countries had intentions to exploit their previously stable relationship. Shortly after World War II, the Soviet Union made it their primary goal to expand their communist policies across Europe (and eventually the world). Their communist policies heavily contradicted the reason why the United States joined World War II, contrasted American ideals, and placed American democracy in jeopardy. Although relations seemed healthy shortly after the war, the relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union dwindled to war due to the United States'... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United States involved itself in World War II to preserve democracy, but when Joseph Stalin made it his top priority to spread communism across Europe, the United States' goal was endangered. As a result, in 1947, President Harry Truman created Executive Order 9835, which called for "a loyalty investigation of every person entering the civilian employment of any department or agency of the executive branch of the Federal Government" (Document 1). Truman's Executive Order exhibits a clear distrust of the protection of American ideals, as Truman would have never instituted this policy if he were not paranoid of the communistic plague. Truman's paranoia was not only displayed by Executive Order 9835, but also emulated by the American people. Truman's Doctrine spurred fear across the American public, most prominently showed in the trial of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. The Rosenberg's were unfairly tried and biasedly considered communists by the American government, ultimately resulting in execution. As seen by Elliot Erwitt's photographs, the American public was enraged and feared communist ideals (Document ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. In Response To Executive Order 9096 By Dwight Okita Should a person be happy with society or should feel as if society should be constantly changing? Many authors have differing opinions on this subject. Some authors believe that people should be happy with society how it is and others believe that if society keeps changing and advancing it will become better as a whole. The truth is, if we all stay at ease with society there will be fewer problems. The idea that a person should learn to be happy with their society is demonstrated in the poem "In Response to Executive Order 9066" by Dwight Okita. In this poem it describes a Japanese American girl getting sent away to a camp and has to leave her best friend, who is a caucasian young girl.
