Diversity Reflection
The implications and understandings developed in class were a gateway in applying it to real world
work. Being given the opportunity to volunteer at The Continuum, I was able to understand the
meaning of disability in the lives of others. I saw firsthand how access, knowledge, and care can
transform a person's daily life in all aspects. With educative modules on assistive technology, culture
and care, family issues, and many others, I was able to transform my perspective and practice what I
am currently learning in the classroom. The Continuum provides a ReGenerations Adult Day Club
for "individuals who may deal with Alzheimer's disease, Dementia, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Stroke
Recovery, Parkinson's disease, and M.S.". This program is fundamental in providing an array of
different care, and I found it to be beneficial for more than just their members. Through my 15 hours

Throughout time teachers can find that flow of establishing the appropriate dominance in the
classroom, other than being the adult. One of the methods for establishing the dominance of the
classroom is to have clear expectations for the preferred behavior in the classroom, the teacher
needs to set in stone the rules and procedures, and by providing consequences for the disruptive
student behavior. The class can establish the rules and procedures through, possibly, a class
discussion and everyone, the students and teacher, can be on mutual circumstances. Besides the
clarity of the rules and procedures, the teacher needs acknowledge the students' behavior; having the
ability to reinforce between the acceptable behavior and the negative behavior and by respectfully

(Raymond, 2000). There is already small number of students in special education and so the number
of students with Traumatic Brain Injuries is very small. I have encountered around a hundred
students in special education in my career so far and of those students only one High School
Student had a Traumatic Brain Injury which seems consistent with the numbers outlined in the test.
TBI impacts the brain and some key characteristics are "physical impairment, sensory impairment,
emotional disturbance, disruption of cognition, and language problems" (Raymond,
2000). TBI is caused by external force which may be due to an injury, accident, fall, or abuse
