2. Starter Pack’s mission...
• To support homeless people who need
household essentials for their new
tenancy
• Supplied over 2000 Starter Packs to date
• Founded in 2003, with 2 paid part-time
staff and 14 volunteers
3. Why am I at Starter Packs Angus?
• To devise a Business Plan
• Problem: Funding shortage
- Council funding may stop
• Solution: Alternative funding strategy
-Open a Scrap/craft store
• To raise their public profile: organise
publicity events
4. My role...also supporting the Furniture
Recycling Project Angus
• Council funding has been cut so furniture shop
expanding to maximise furniture sales
• Due to merge with SPA in 2010
• I co-wrote FRPA’s website; conducted a
marketing campaign review, and drew up their
financial forecast
8. My Achievements SPA
• Applied for £50,000+ funding
• Written the Business Plan, including SPA +
FRPA merger proposition
• Assessed Scrap store viability, pilot plans now
underway
• Organised Publicity Events: Cookery
Demonstration Lunch and Arbroath Seafront

9. My Learning Curve
• Communication skills: build rapport with
volunteers and service users; understand their
needs
• Innovative and flexible mindset : to ensure this
service is provided effectively
• Management of Change : communicate to staff
the charity can no longer be dependent on
donations but must become a self-sustaining
enterprises
