Who would be the audience for your media product?
1. Who would be the audience for your media product ?
2. I decided to carry out a questionnaire in order to find out what audience would prefer our film genre which was a horror. I asked 15 people from various age groups and found that each age group preferred watching a different genre of film. Most of the younger people I asked (10-15 year olds) said they enjoyed watching comedy films and the boys said that they liked action packed films. The 16-25 year olds also said that they would choose either a comedy or romance film. However, a lot of them said they would usually choose to watch a horror or thriller with their friends. The older group of people I asked ranged from the age of 26-45. They agreed that they would watch most films, however a lot of them preferred watching a comedy more than anything else. Along with this, many of the 26-45 year olds said that their least favourite genre was either a horror, thriller or slasher.
5. In order to gather evidence to suggest that horror films are enjoyed by younger audiences the most I did some research on Google. Here is a paragraph on information about someone who conducted a questionnaire like I did and also found that horror films are enjoyed by more males and younger viewers.
6. From all this information I gathered it was obvious that the main audience for my film opening would be a younger audience. I found that younger audience’s are willing to endure the terror of horror films in order to enjoy a euphoric sense of relief at the end. Younger audiences also like horror films as seek "thrills“ and these things projected on a screen are emotionally "thrilling" and yet physically harmless.
7. Even though we believe our main audience for our opening of our film would be a younger audience we also believe that this film would be watched more by females than males. The reason we believe this is because there are several situations shown within the first opening minutes which we believe would appeal to females. For example, audiences are shown a scene where a girl is arguing with her boyfriend or male friend, there is also a scene where two girls are talking about their friend negatively. Many girls will be able to relate to these things which they may consider everyday situations, and this may appeal to them. Along with this, even though the female is the victim in the story she seems to be quite independent and confident. These traits may allow girls to look up to this female character.
