1. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
2. My Rap music magazine represents young teenagers stereotypically, the use of taboo lexis, tattoo's,
drug and sex references and the fact the genre is ‘modern day rap’ attracts the audience as it relates
to their own psychographics for example drug use, using social networking sites and chances to win
tickets/meet artists. If the magazine is presenting the artists in this way it will allow the audience to
feel as though they are more connected with their favourite artists as some of the audience may
aspire to be like them an example of this is the use of the ‘20 best artist tattoos’.
Young adults/teenagers
3. My magazine also indicates stereotypes of the working social class as they are being associated with
drugs which suggests these are the audience psychographics, another social class which is
represented is the upper middle and middle class. The artists ‘KM’ would be part of this social class
as a successful music artists, she is wearing a gold Marc Jacobs watch which is an expensive this
conveys that she has a lot of money to indulge on her appearance and accessories such as watches.
Social Class
Working class Representations
Middle/ Upper middle class Representations
4. Through the use of direct address and makeup (red lipstick) the front cover represents ‘KM’ as
rebellious and aggressive looking, this is un-stereotypical and a negative representation of women. I
have purposely used this to go against the stereotype of the role of women. KM is portrayed in this
manner as it is a stereotype of the target audience to be rebellious and break rules.
Gender
Although, due to the costume and body
position she is still stereotypically conforming
to ‘the role of women’ as she looks attractive
and sexy.
