The American prison finds its origin in Europe. Like most things American we have adopted and
adapted many of our beliefs and customs from our mother land. The punishment of confinement was
rare and unheard of in America before Eighteenth century. The English concept of prison and
incarceration did not even take root until the late Eighteenth Century (Hirsch, 1992). Now,
American's cannot claim that they invented prisons or the concept of confining criminal offenders
within facilities that keep them separate from society. However, they can accredit themselves with
championing the concept of prison reformation. Much like its English counterpart the early
American prison system, which would one day grow to be an integral part of the expansive
American Criminal Justice System, had an ugly and brutal start. Confinement conditions for
Prisoners were harsh and unrelenting. Most Facilities designed to house criminal offenders were
over populated, under staffed, and lacked necessary resources to support their growing population of
inmates (Clear & Cole, 2003). However, over the years, America has made many strives to correct

The Green Mile, "The Two Dead Girls" is a very recognized work of Stephen King's. The book
series itself was so high–quality that it has also been produced as a movie. This dynamic anecdote is
about two girls who are raped and murdered. A man by the name of John Coffey committed the
dreadful crime. After his trial, Coffey is sentenced to death in the electric chair, which in the book
they called "Old Sparky," that is located in the state penitentiary at Cold Mountain. Paul Edgecombe
and Percy Wetmore, the guards watch over the men and women that die in the chair. Throughout the
book, the reader is lead to debate whether or not John Coffey is a devil in human form or a different
kind of being. Chapter 1 is part of the book which analyzes the thesis. In chapter 1 the author is
describing to the reader what the penitentiary looked and felt like. Another significant detail in this
part of the book is that King explains and describes the Green Mile. The last steps before a prisoner
sits in the electric chair to be killed are normally called the last mile. In this particular penitentiary,
the path to the chair was floored with tile. The planks on the floor had a lime green color to it, and

resistant attitudes of the music's core audience. Our database is a large sample of Toronto high

of stress can arise from an individual 's perceptions of an environmental threat, even if no such
danger actually exists. Environmental stressors are external conditions beyond an individual 's
control. Bhagat (1983) has reported that work performance can be seriously impaired by external

stressors. There are many aspects of organizational life that can become external stressors. These
include issues of structure, management 's use of authority, monotony, a lack of opportunity for
advancement, excessive responsibilities, ambiguous demands, value conflicts, and unrealistic

Question 4 (Language) The industrious classroom was bustling with children laughing, pretending,
communicating and a plethora of other activities. At this age they are engaging in private speech and
still in the process of developing their speech habits. Private speech is the act of children verbalizing
their thoughts in a sense as to guide their actions (Santrock, 2010). A child sitting by himself is
trying to mimic a pattern of colorful shapes on a piece of string. "Red, blue, green,.." he says out
loud as he places the respective shapes on the string. Private speech in this case would be him
saying each color aloud in order to guide the placement of each shape. Upon completion he smiles at
his creation then rushes to show it to the nearest adult. "Good job, Max!", the teacher exclaims to
him and asks him if can do another one for her. He says "Thank you.", and eagerly rushes back to
the shapes and empties his string ready to start anew. Finishing another pattern he rushes back to the
adult where he cheers because he is feeling happy that he did a great job on his pattern, the

Although people may say that school administration should be able to carry concealed weapons on
school campus for protection of themselves and their students, it is a very bad and dangerous
decision. Bringing concealed weapons into schools could cause many tragic things to happen such
as a child or teen to possibly pick up the weapon and harm themselves or others, having an
unintentional discharge occur in class and it could also cause an increase in violent behavior. So, no
administration has no business carrying concealed weapons to school for any reason. It's a bad idea
and would just cause heart ache and a lot of unneeded stress.

Moreover, the article relates this framework to other change frameworks that have been proposed by
various authors. Using a change situation in which two hotels under separate management were
merged or "complexed" to form a single operating entity under new ownership, we illustrate how
our model can be used to implement effective change. In particular, we explain the importance of

major for individuals interested in becoming business leaders. Despite this widespread assertion,
little research has been conducted on this topic. Using the Standard and Poor (S&P) 500 companies,
this paper examines the validity of such a claim. We find evidence that Economics is a good choice
of major for those aspiring to become a CEO. Economics ranked third with 9% of the CEOs of the
S&P 500 companies in 2004 being undergraduate Economics majors, behind Business
Administration and Engineering majors, each of which accounted for 20% of the CEOs. When

Apple. The CEO of Apple is Steve Jobs who is also the founder of Apple. Job's message to the
stockholders in a January 9, 2009, press release was not one of products and what the future held for
them, but one of reassurance of Jobs' health. He revealed that he did have a health issue but it was a

 The work of Kurt Lewin dominated the theory and practice of change management
for over 40 years. However, in the past 20 years, Lewin's approach to change, particularly the 3–
Step model, has attracted major criticisms. The key ones are that his work: assumed organizations
operate in a stable state; was only suitable for small–scale change projects; ignored organizational
power and politics; and was top–down and management–driven. This article seeks to re–appraise

LEWIN'S BACKGROUND
Few social scientists can have received the level of praise and admiration that has been heaped upon
Kurt Lewin (Ash, 1992; Bargal et al., 1992; Dent and
Goldberg, 1999; Dickens and Watkins, 1999; Tobach, 1994). As Edgar Schein
(1988, p. 239) enthusiastically commented:
There is little question that the intellectual father of contemporary theories of applied behavioural
science, action research and planned change is Kurt Lewin.
His seminal work on leadership style and the experiments on planned change which took place in
World War II in an effort to change consumer behaviour launched a whole generation of research in
group dynamics and the implementation of change programs.

Student involvement in research activities in U.S. business schools used to be primarily offered to
graduate students. However, many universities are now offering undergraduate research
opportunities that can provide students with a deep understanding of the academic environment.
Research allows the exploration and questioning of significant issues in today's world.
This type of learning can provide students with more understanding than can be taught in a
classroom or read in a textbook. Research challenges students to engage in the process of identifying
and evaluating major issues and trends impacting businesses and society. Students also explore
potential business implications that can drive innovation (The Boyer Commission). One goal of
business school research is to enhance the prestige of the business school where the research is
done. There is evidence that research does achieve that goal, as "research has, historically, been
regarded as the primary determinant of a school 's prestige" (Armstrong, 1995: 103). For example,
Business Week magazine has added a research influence measure in its ratings of business schools.
If a school scores highly on that measure, it enhances the overall prestige ranking.

Many writers have argued that organizations are also complex systems which, to survive, need to
operate at the edge of chaos and have to respond continuously to changes in their environments
through just such a process of spontaneous self–organizing change (Lewis, 1994; Stickland, 1998;
Macintosh and MacLean, 1999, 2001; Hayles, 2000; Macbeth, 2002; Stacey, 2003).
This is a far cry from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, where the received wisdom was that change was
an incremental process (Quinn, 1980) and that the best way to manage this was through Kurt Lewin
's Planned approach to change (French and
Bell, 1990; Cummings and Worley, 2001). Given its group–based, consensual and relatively slow
nature. Planned change began to attract criticism in the 1980s from those questioning its
appropriateness in an era of radical organizational change
(Peters and Waterman, 1982; Wilson, 1992; Dawson, 1994; Buchanan and Storey,

Family Structure : Single Parent And Divorced
Single parent and divorced, shared–custody families have become more common place in American
society over the past fifty years. During the 1940s and 1950s, "85% of children lived in two–parent
families, 70% lived in an intact (biological or adoptive) two–parent family, and the remaining 15%
lived in two–parent stepfamilies..... however, since the 1970s, there has been a large increase in the
proportion of children living with never–married mothers (from 1.1% in 1970 to 6.7% in 1988) or
divorced mothers (from 3.5% in 1970 to 7.8% in 1988)" (Shiono and Quinn par. 2). Since there has
been an increase in divorced and never–married mothers taking care of families, there have been
countless studies done on how different family structures affect the children involved and the family
unit as a whole. I believe that the two biological parent family structure is the best for children and
society because it provides stability, allows for stable financial income, and also prevents role strain
for the parents. From a functionalist perspective, single parent and shared–custody families are seen
as unacceptable for society. Functionalists see the family as an important part of society, and all
parts must be functional to keep society balanced and running smoothly. When one part of the
society becomes dysfunctional, then the whole system breaks down. When the family unit, which is
a core part of society, breaks down there are numerous issues that can occur. The family becomes
