Frequent incidents of fishermen from Tamil Nadu getting shot in the Sri Lankan's maritime boundary have enraged all citizen of the state. From the fishermen's point of view, straying takes place inadvertently, due to sheer ignorance about maritime boundaries. The main aim of the system is to help the fishermen not to navigate beyond other country's border. It will identify the boundary zone using Radio frequency. If the fisherman approaches border it gives voice message /LED display/alarm indicating that the fisherman has nearing the border. If they try to move forward then automatically motor of the ship/boat will stop. Additionally, there is an emergency switch available on the boat that can be used during danger / hijack. If the switch is pressed, a message transmitter is interfaced with the device will send a message to base station/coastal guard about location and boat number using GPS. As well as other information such as Tsunami and weather can be indicated to the fishermen by using vibration and humidity sensor. On the whole, it is an attempt to build a suitable device for safe and secure navigation of fishermen around Indian Ocean at a reasonably low cost.

3. NEED OF GPS
GPS based border alert system aims in keeping an
end for the killings of the fishermen were seen
quite common in the boundary coastal areas
which has become quite common these days. The
reason for this they were crossing the territory or
boundary. This happening due to lack of
awareness where their boundary is located and
the cost of this mistake is their life and we cannot
provide any sign board in the mid of the sea to
solve this problem. The only solution which we
provide for this problem is enabling the boats
with a GPS device.
6. WORKING
• This GPS receiver is capable of identifying the location in
which it was present in the form of latitude and longitudes.
• This information is very useful and can be processed for
alerting the boat drivers.
• The GPS gives the data received from the satellites. For this
information the GPS communicates with at least three
satellites in thecontroller. space. The functioning of the device
is achieved by employing a micro
• The micro controller forms the controlling unit of the project.
The micro controller is interfaced with a GPS receiver so that
it can receive theinformation about the location in which the
boat is present.
• The controller compares the location of the boat with the
territory location. Whenever the boat approaches the
boundary it alerts the driver. It is also interfaced with few LED
indicators to alert the boat driver.
7. BOUNDARY IDENTIFICATION
The boundary is identified using Radio
frequencies. The particular RF is generated at
the base station and if the boat crosses the RF
level, then the alarm beeps and the engine of
the boat gets stop.
8. BENEFITS
• Nobody can enter the other country’s boundary and
can maintain good relation with countries without
affecting sovereignty with other countries.
• The unnecessary arrest and getting shot by Lankan’s
navy can be avoided.
• If unofficial arrest/hijack occurs then the Indian
Government can claim and save the fishermen from
the Lankan Navy with the records available with the
coastal guards.
• In case of any danger on the sea, it can be detected by
the system and the particular location of the boat is
sent to the coastal guards.

10. CONCLUSION
RF based transceiver along with microcontroller helps the
fishermen to detect their boundary. Unknowingly if they
crosses the border the motor in the boat gets switched off.
This prevents the fishermen to cross the boundary, thus
saving the life of fishermen. If unofficial arrest/ hijack
occurs then Indian government can claim and save the lives
of fishermen with the record available with coastal guard.
In emergency/ dangerous situation, the coastal guard can
help the fishermen with the information that received from
boat. Thus the piracy can be brought under control. The
Indian government should take necessary steps to provide
this cost effective, essential device for all the fishermen for
their safe and secure navigation along the Indian Ocean
