To Give is To Receive
The idea of giving has been around since biblical times. Its quoted in the bible over (2000 times). Through the centuries, although it has maintained it's
initial roots of helping thy neighbor, it has evolved into a significant multi–billion dollar business, and has been well accepted by the general public.
Giving is world word in acceptance, and crosses all civilized borders.
The Federal Government has recognized the importance of charitable giving in (xxxx) in the tax code by developing the 501–3C, which has become
the biggest vehicle in which "givers" use to access their charitable organization.
The need for Charity Minutes is simple. Charities are looking for ways to become sustainable, which means for the most part they must seek alternative
means for raising funds. The once or twice a year (chicken dinner) fund raising event, the silent auction, and the annual golf tournament, although
sometimes successful, will not sustain them. Aid and grants from local government has reached an all time low. Their influential board of directors of
doctors, attorneys, Indian chiefs and leaders of business, have less time to spend on boards, and have more difficulty with the goals of attaining those
sustainability dollars. Charitable donors now more than ever, are scrutinizing every dollar they give and are asking the question, what are you doing to
become sustainable.
Although the charities (non–profits) have a good relationship with the (for–profit) business community, at

Poverty, Poor, And Poor
The concepts of "worthy" and "unworthy" poor came about during the English Poor Laws that were introduced in the 1500's. The English poor laws
classified poor or dependent people into three major categories and established many requirement before aid was provided. Dependent persons were
categorized as: vagrant (nomadic; with no permanent home or employment), the involuntary unemployed and the helpless. In effect, the poor laws
separated the poor into two classes which were the worthy and the unworthy. The worthy were classified as orphans, widows, handicapped, or the frail
elderly. The unworthy were the drunkards, suspicious, or lazy. (Hansan, J.E. (2011). Poor relief in early America) A major theme that was established

The workers saw the persistent abuse of immigrants, the terrible working conditions in factories and sweatshops, and the failure of public officials to
enforce laws. Settlement house residents soon learned that the conditions of the poor people in the neighborhoods were most often not the result of
choice but of necessity. These discoveries led to the house residents acting as advocates on behalf of immigrants and their neighborhoods. Some even
organized English classes and immigrant protective associations. At the same time as the settlement houses were in effect, the charities were being
discouraged from giving public relief, during a period of financial crisis and unemployment. The society went into chaos and the charities began to
panic. Due to the overwhelming amount of relief necessary, charity workers argued that there needed to be a scientific way to establish who would get
relief. Therefore, private charities were combined into an organization called the COS, and others like it followed. These organizations were there to
conduct investigations and distinguish the worthy from the unworthy poor and based on their findings, refer them to relief agencies. Where the COS
blamed the poor for their situation, the settlement houses strived to prove that it was a societal issue. The settlement houses paved the way for
community organization and didn't focus on the COS's distinction of worthy and unworthy. The social workers in the settlement houses focused on

The Government Is Subsidizing What Robert Reich Has A ``...
It might come as a surprise to learn that the government is subsidizing what Robert Reich has called a "plutocratic bias" in the charitable sector at a
steep cost to the national treasury. This is in large part because the charitable tax deduction, which serves as the charitable sector's primary financing
mechanism, creates tax incentive structures for donors that are steeply regressive. In 2012, tax subsidies to the charitable sector cost the government
more than $50 billion in lost tax revenue. Given the billions of dollars in government subsidies and donations, it seems only reasonable to ask if this
sector actually supports "charity" by meeting the needs of the most disadvantaged in our society, which is what we have historically ... Show more

Consider these high–profile examples of the mega–donor phenomenon: billionaire donor financier Stephen Schwartzman just gave Yale University
$150 million in May 2015 for a cultural center, while hedge fund manager John Paulson gave Harvard $400 million weeks later for its engineering
school. As part of the deal, Yale's new cultural center will bear Schwartzman's name, and Harvard's engineering school will be rechristened in Paulson's
honor. Both will receive handsome tax deductions as a result of their self–aggrandizing gifts (with no decrease in that deduction to account for the
ostensible value in having buildings with their names on them). Mind you, Harvard and Yale are the two wealthiest universities in the world, each with
endowments over $20 billion. This raises the question: should the government be subsidizing hundred million dollar donations from the wealthy to
such well–endowed institutions? Is this use of the charitable tax deduction defensible?
The tax code is directly implicated in this: there is no economic incentive for low–income people to donate to charity since the only way to claim a
charitable tax deduction is if you itemize, and most low–income people do not itemize their tax returns. That fact alone prevents millions of taxpayers
from helping to set the agenda of the charitable sector in the way that the wealthier are incentivized to do through the

The American Immigration Council Is A Charitable Organization
According to JJArea, et. al, the American Immigration Council is a charitable organization that produces to increase appropriate awareness of
immigration issues and teach people how to overcome the stigma of immigrants. Similar services and missions have been reported as the mission of
the Community Education Center, in which "values of fairness, social justice and respect for all people" (JJArea, et. al). This program offers its
services through classroom resources that increase openness to immigrants. Also, it funds educational projects to help with any immigration concerns in
the school systems ("Carson" ). There are other organizations that enforce similar believes of fairness such as: Immigration Advocates Network,

The awareness of possible decrease in crime rates brought attention to those worried about the unfortunate violence records that are occurring. It has
helped decrease the fear and discrimination that some citizens have towards specific cultures, religions and beliefs by empowering the good that comes
from being "different" ("Carson"). Furthermore, the American Immigration Council has fulfilled many immigrants lives by bringing families together
and giving them a chance to live a better life in the United States. According to the Internet Wire journal, the AIC has given a chance for Henry
Cejudo, Olympic gold medalist, to celebrate with his mother by honoring her at their annual benefit ("Honors Olympic Gold Medalist"). The AIC was
able to bring this family together and put a smile on their faces during that proud moment.
Politics
The issue of immigration is a constant concern for many in the United States and around the world. It connects to the political debate topic of
building the wall to prevent Mexican immigrants from entering the country as well as send away the illegal immigrants that are living here as well.
According to Renwick & Lee , as President Donald Trump begins his presidency, he has been sharing about how he wants to build a wall on the
borders to eliminate any immigrants from entering the USA. This has caused many to feel rejected due to their differences. Also, it has encouraged
many citizens to discriminate against

Diaged Homeless People
In a world where we never stop wanting things. Everything is instant gratification. Social media is more important than a face–to–face conversation.
Having a new phone every six months has become the norm. We need to get the focus of me and see the world around us. That is why I believe in
charitable giving such as donating money, donating items, and donating my time.
First, I like to donating money to causes I believe in. Even though monetary donations are difficult on a person with a low income or strict budget.
There are always causes in my town of Phelan to get involved in. As in any other town, there are a number of disadvantaged homeless people needing
help on a daily basis. Mark is one of our local homeless population and whenever we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Joe's Fish Taco Nights is one of the events my husband Guy and I participate in every year during lent. A month before the event I
get to design to flyer to promote the event. The six Friday before Good Friday we help cook fish tacos for the community. It is a wonderful event
that brings the community and families together. We start at 3pm cutting cabbage, onions, tomatoes, and cheese. The volunteers then break into
groups depending on their assignment. Guy and I are responsible to collect the money for the meals. We never turn a person away, but we do keep
track of the meal we give away. During the evening various attendees request to donate a meal for a less fortunate person. All food and soups are
donated by participating groups. The money raised is to benefit the vocations. Another event we love to donate our time to is the annual Knights of
Columbus Spaghetti dinner. Two months before the dinner I create any flyers, tickets, and promotional materials. My husband Guy and I are in
charge of making all the garlic bread for the dinner every year. Last year we used more than 27 loaves of French bread. First we cut the loafs open,
butter both sides, add garlic powder, and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. After that we slice the bread into smaller pieces, place them onto the backing
sheets and place them in the kitchen until the cooks are ready to bake them. We also invite family and friends to join use for the spaghetti dinner. The
food is served by teenagers in need of community service hours for their catechism. Money raised benefits the youth catechism

Sole proprietorship are the most numerous form of business organization in Malaysia, however they account for little in the way of aggregate
business receipts. There are no forms you need to fill out to start this type of business. This is the easiest form of business to set up, and the easiest
to dissolve. The purpose of most organization or business is mainly to earn profit. It is usually called as profit oriented business. So, it is actually a
profit business or other organization whose primary goal is making money, as opposed to a non–profit organization which focuses a goal such as
helping the community and is concerned with money only as much as necessary to keep the organization operating. This includes anything from
retail stores to restaurants to insurance companies to real estate companies. Question: You are opening Quail Creek Pet Kennel. Your purpose is

Historical Trends Of Human Service Policy
Historical Trends in Human Service Policy In the context of human service, the current practice of social welfare in Europe and America is a
product of evolutionary change. The social welfare structure in countries such as Canada, France, and the United States draw from English social
welfare policies that created foundational structures of current social welfare practice. The practice of social welfare traces back to English heritage
spanning back to a time when English policies operated in British colonies (Guest, 1997). English policies such as the Elizabethan Poor Laws of
1594 and 1601 and the 1662 Law of Settlement and Removal defined human service and social welfare in England and her colonies (Ascoli & Cnaan,
1997). In the same... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the paper also analyzes the net gains and losses of these trends to the society. One of the profound historical trends in regards to human
service was the English poor laws that governed the treatment of the poor. Following the enactment of the Elizabethan poor laws in 1601, the
English embarked on an entirely new approach of dealing with the poor in the society. While the poor laws appeared harsh in England and colonial
in English colonies, these laws defined policies that spearheaded action in human service in regards to the treatment of the poor in society.
Essentially, the concepts, ideologies, policies, approaches, and discourse provided by the pool laws defined a human service structure that still
informs the current practice of social welfare (Carniol, 2005). Prior to the Elizabethan poor laws, the practice of social welfare consisted of voluntary
subscription to a poor–relief fund by the poor coupled with the use of harsh punishment to discourage vagabonds and beggars (Guest, 1997). This
practice related to a general assumption that paupers or rather the poor suffered from moral deficiency that render them poor and dependent (Hasenfeld
& Garrow, 2012). In this regard, the treatment of the poor was most often than not harsh. The Elizabethan poor laws however ushered in a new
dispensation that resumed full public responsibility for the poor and the destitute in the society. The establishment of a public tax–supported system
aimed at providing

Famine, Affluence, and Morality Essay
In the article by Singer, P. (1972) "Famine, affluence, and morality" main argument is that to persuade his readers in what people of wealth and
governments should help with famine relief, especially in East Bengal as one example given. Singer is furthermore also mention somewhat of and
utilitarianism. Therefore, according to Mosser, K. (2010) "A concise introduction to philosophy" states that the "actutilitarianism applies the idea of
utilitarianism to specific acts, emphasizing what moral is what produces the greatest good for the greats number...contrast with rule utilitarianism"
(2010, Glossary). However, it is important to remember that Singer main agenda is to show ways that both people and counties deal with disasters and

(p. 962)
To explain the three counter arguments on Singer's response were weak and only seen to relate to the fact of the Bengalis and leaving other cultures
behind or others such as Ethiopia where famine is a daily existence of life there. Therefore, Singer (1972) argues about trying to find:
Distinction between duty and charity in some other place... that the present way of drawing the distinction, which makes it an act of charity for a man
living at the level of affluence, which most people in the "developed nations" enjoy giving money to save someone else from starvation, cannot be
supported. (p. 235)
Lastly, Singer looks at the moral scheme of things and how they justify on giving aid and how the principle of marginal unity can apply. As he
states that we have an obligation and duty to help others in famine suffering if we can do so, then it is in your morals scheme makeup to do so.
According to Singer (1972) states that he had, "One objection to the position I have taken might be simply that it is too drastic a revision of our
moral scheme. People do not ordinarily judge in the way I have suggested they should" (p. 236). Another point that Singer made was that "The
conclusion that should be drawn is that the best means of preventing famine, in the long run, is population control" (p. 240). Therefore, the point is to
help if one is able to or better yet,

Nursing Issues: Global Health
During the Nursing Issues: Global Health class, I was given an opportunity to work ten hours with a charitable organization to provide clothing

believe that equality, compassion and humanity are essential for a spiritual life. I was able to complete my service hours through Sikh temple
located in El Sobrante. Sikh temples across the world are dedicated and determined to help underprivileged and homeless people. The Sikh temple

my ten hours, I was fortunate to collect food and distribute it to those in need. Many people at the Sikh temple donate food such as wheat flour,

Ethical Altruiism
Families that make under $39,000 a year donate more than the wealthy to charities. These individuals are the 90% that donate while the other 10%
come from rich people and wealthy foundations (Harwood). As people are accumulating more wealth, they are being set apart from others, and they
don't see other people's needs and struggles. When a person's empathy is aroused, they will be more likely to help altruistically (Reis). So, if the
wealthy aren't seeing the struggles of others, they can't feel empathy and will be less likely to donate. Donating money is one of the many ways
someone can help altruistically. True altruism will not benefit one personally and some examples of that are the rescuers of Jews, volunteers, and
donors. A group of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of The Singer Solution To World Poverty
Someone is classified as a monster when they say "no" to a person asking for donations for a charity. Are they a monster? The answer is no, they are
not a monster; they are simply an intelligent person. In the essay The Singer Solution to World Poverty by Peter Singer, he argues that we should
donate the money that we would use for luxury items to charities; however, we should not do donate our money because it would hurt the economy,
and most charitable foundations are unreliable and will profit from the donations. Donating money instead of spending on luxuries will result in
another recession, and will raise the unemployment rate of America. To illustrate, "The American economy entered an ordinary recession during the
summer of 1929, as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, "If we value the life of a child more than going to fancy restaurants, the next time we dine out we will know that we could have done
something better with our money" (Singer par. 23). Let's say it costs eighty dollars to take your family out to dinner at a nice restaurant. Those
eighty dollars could be used to feed, cloth, and ultimately save a starving child. Instead, that family decided to go out to eat even though they had
perfectly good food at home. Think about how often this occurs and how many lives that could be saved if they donate that money instead. On the
other hand, many families see going out as a special occasion for their hard work and celebration. The people who should be donating are the
people who are upper financially stable middle class and the wealthy. Anyone else not in those classes cannot be responsible for other when they are
barely surviving themselves. They work hard every day and bring money home to their families and if they have a little extra money to buy luxury
items then they deserve to go out for all their hard work. The upper class should be responsible to help the starving children, they can afford to go out

In the case of Re Holborn Air Raid Distress Fund [1946] Ch 194, a fund collected by employees of a definite firm to provide money for the assistance

Who Is The Good Or Bad?
A remarkable thing about humankind is the common theme of helping others that occurs almost as frequently as people in need themselves appear.
The problem lately in society is that the percentage of those people in need has been steadily rising; it is harder and harder for folks to pull themselves
up by their bootstraps and provide for them and their family. This is the reason that many organizations are formed.Charity and giving can often be
distinguished in a description, but it is the inherent good that comes out of those that is much harder to define. For example, the intentions of any
specific organization are almost impossible to determine, so one cannot conclude absolutely on whether it is doing good or bad in the world. While one

I gathered here, the intentions are very good, and the people that work there are legitimately trying to help others. The Good Grocer is almost 40 years
younger than Neighbors, Inc., which reflects itself in the updated model of giving and more progressive approach to the matter. It will be interesting
to look at Neighbors, Inc. in the next couple months as the CEO that I spoke to is retiring, and there will be a young man from Washington there to

feel that Neighbors can help those that need a lot more than its counterpart. At the food shelf, people can qualify for free food, which translates into free
items upstairs at the thrift store as well. This draws more people in because they do not require money to go there and benefit, unlike the grocery store.

Contributions Of Nonprofit Charitable Organizations
In the United States alone, there are over one million non–profit organizations that operate all over the entire world. Some charities are more familiar
than others, such as, The United Way and The Salvation Army. Of these many non
–profits in the United States, many of them struggle to thrive and be
successful with their goals. Charities rely on getting funds from many sources, and some charities struggle with money because of the fact they are
heavily depending on funds from sources that may not be there one day. Charities have to meet certain requirements set by the IRS to have a
non–profit status. Studies have shown that the rich are not donating to charity, although more and more of the youth seem to be donating. There are so
many good reasons to donate to nonprofit charitable organizations, but still many organizations struggle to meet or succeed their goals. Without cash or
funding, a non–profit will not be able to provide the programs or services that the non–profit was designed to provide. Some people wonder where to
ask for the necessary money. Many organizations ask individuals for direct donations. Some ask foundations, government agencies, or corporations for
grants to support specific programs and projects. "There are two commandments, simplify and focus" (How to Raise Money for a Non–profit).

Does A Person's Socioeconomic Background Influence...
Does a Person's Socioeconomic Background Influence Altruistic Behavior? During the Middle Ages, the majority of peasants in Feudal Europe were
loyal and submissive to their nobles, motivated by the values taught in their strong Catholic belief system. According to "Chapter XVI: The Life of the
Peasants", the successes of many nobles and knights were due to the faithfulness of their peasants, whom they had oppressed and wronged (Davis 46).
Modern day altruism is also influenced by socioeconomic status and religion, similar to how the religious members of the third estates supported the
upper social echelons.
Today, individuals in the top 20% of the United States population own more than 84% of the nation's wealth, while the bottom 40% own... Show more

According to Judith Warner, a New York Times journalist who specializes in psychology, the charitable giving deficit is due to the lack of empathy
towards the hardships of the poor among their rich counterparts (Warner 2). In light of this, it is important to determine how socioeconomic
background influences donation patterns in order to bridge the charitable giving gap. Altruistic behaviors in their quintessential form are selflessly
motivated prosocial actions; they influence virtually all human interactions. In America, altruism is ostensibly embodied in the giving patterns of
wealthy philanthropists who have a history of creating endowments and donating assets to higher education and other charitable programs. However, in
reality, the lower and middle classes account for most of the charitable giving in America. Furthermore, altruism is identified with prosocial behavior, or
actions that benefit society as a whole, in sociological interactions. Individuals who come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are more altruistic
because their increased empathy for human welfare and intrinsic self–transcendent value systems motivate them to give more readily.
Sociological
In sociology, altruism characterizes virtually all human interactions. Whether it be marginal acts of kindness or donations to local charities, altruism
allows for society to function by helping those in need. Individuals from lower social echelons endure

In contrast to Peter Wilby, Jon Swartz does not see problem that the good marketing will sell, for example Bill Gates will sell more on "Windows

Jon Swartz also points out how much money they are donating. "Among those who didn't sign the pledge, some preferred anonymity, some were

biased and not neutral.

Summary Of Feeding The Hungryry Narveson
In the article, Feeding the Hungry, Narveson answers the general questions about the different types of moral questions that we have about starving.
Narveson argues whether feeding the hun–gry is an act of justice or charity. Throughout this article, he establishes a distinction between jus–tice and
charity. He defines the demands of justice as something that could be enforced. In Nar–veson's perspective, charity is defined as something that,
"comes 'from the heart': charity means, roughly, caring an, emotionally tinged desire to benefit other people just because they need it" (233). Charity
consists only of benefits that are motivated by love or concern (233). In this sense, he means that charity consists only of benefits that are motivated by

Feeding the hungry is a matter of justice because it is something we must do. Justice is something that can be enforced, but the demands of charity
cannot be enforced. One of Narveson's major claim in this article is that it is morally permissible to force someone to act just–ly, but it is never
morally permissible to force someone to be charitable. He makes a claim that we should be charitable to some degree. Narveson's position is that
feeding the hungry is a matter of charity, not justice. One of the things he elaborates on is that we should become charitable to some degree. Garrett
Harden, a writer describes feeding the hungry as, "an exercise in misguided charity and not real charity" (234). Harden asserts that we cause more
starvation just by feeding people than we do by not feeding them. He believes that the truly charitable should be against feeding the hungry in some
types of cases. He then brings up another argument where he makes a distinction between principles and

Don Imus Is Decidedly Cute And Catchy
The jingle is decidedly cute and catchy, both annoying and familiar. You know the tune: one
–eight seven seven kars 4 kids. Don Imus was caught
ranting about it in 2010 as it played during a commercial break on his radio show. Radio duo Opie and Anthony echoed the sentiment, saying that "the
commercial goes right into your very soul." The opening segment to a December 2014 Saturday Night Live segment parodying the United States
Military torture report joked the earworm was created by the same psychologists who developed the torture techniques and wondered whether the
charity helps the kids or the cars.
The jingle belongs to a national charitable organization that has a presence in every state, as well as countless billboards, Internet advertisements, and a
recently released television commercial (click if you dare) that puts adorable faces to the sweet voices behind the ditty: four goofy–looking kids clad in
'80s–band style clothes, lip–syncing and rocking out on signature–pink guitars.
Besides its impeccable branding, the charity blitzes listeners with exciting phrases like "maximum tax deduction," "free vacation voucher," and the
catchy phrase: "donate your car today." But the ads conveniently leave out how it all works or where the money goes. And while the SNL clip was a
joke, it also raises an obvious question: How exactly do cars go to help kids–and which kids? With rare exceptions, like after Hurricane Sandy, the
organization does not issue statements about its

Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin: Song Analysis
The song "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" by Sly and the Family Stone is a catchy song that represents the move to a brand new style of
music. It represents a style of music that incorporates both R&B and rock elements. In "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)", the band
incorporates aspects of R&B by having the entire song built over a repeating riff in the bass. This repeating riff in the bass, according to chapter 9 of
the book establishes "the song's rhythmic feel or 'groove'." This is considered an element of the R&B genre because R&B is known to have repetitive
rhythms in their songs. The aforementioned aspect in the song is significant because the repeating riff is what made this song successful due to the
catchiness of the rhythm or "groove". ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" contains extended instrumental solos which I believe is a common trait for psychedelic rock. Although
the beat structure of the song is fairly simple in comparison to many psychedelic rock songs in my opinion, it does contain creative lyrics. The
creative lyrics is something that is an important element of rock. The extended instrumental solos and creative lyrics in the song are significant
because the extended solos make the songs contain an upbeat tempo while the creative lyrics shows the song has an ulterior meaning to it. Combining
both elements from R&B and rock is significant in general because it creates a new musical style or genre. The combination of these elements in this
song show that it has a funk–rock style/genre. The funk–rock genre has grown and the band Sly and the Family Stone were instrumental in the

Summary Of Toxic Charity By Robert Lupton
Robert Lupton (2011) clearly states his thesis in the opening line of his book; "What Americans avoid facing is that while we are very generous in
charitable giving, much of that money is either wasted or actually harms the people it is targeted to help" (pg. 1). Wrapped in this sentence are several
themes that Lupton seeks to unpack throughout his work. He lays the foundation for the need of charitable reform by providing examples and insight
into instances where charitable giving can harm where it intended to help. Then he goes on to provide numerous examples of charitable giving that
helps instead of harms its recipients. Throughout the book he contributes ways to turn harmful giving into helpful giving. Lupton accounts his four

Kantianism And Altruism
Charity. Philanthropy. Altruism. These three words ultimately point to the single, ultimate goal: "to help". In fact, charitable giving is the act of
donating money to a certain cause, so that more people are "helped" overall. However, many organizations, such as the federal government, offer tax
reductions while other organizations offer other perks for charitable giving. Some see incentives to charity as demeaning the virtue of "selfless giving,"
yet these critics lose sight of the actual goal of charity: to help other people in its cause. Charity is not to allow people to think that they are more
"moral," but it's for the people instead. Incentivising charitable giving is not only just, but it is also warranted for the final goal of assisting as many
people as possible. From my observations, I first look towards the increasing socioeconomic gap between the upper and the lower class. Indeed, many
wealthy people such as Bill Gates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, incentivizing charity is morally sound in the two most major moral frameworks of Kantianism and Utilitarianism. First, Jeremy Bentham
wrote many papers describing the philosophy of utility, where an action is just if it does the most good to the most amount of people. In bringing
incentives, we not only help more people for a cause, but we can all many who want to give charitably a chance to do so by offsetting the cost. Under
Kantianism, Immanuel Kant also states that although charitable giving is itself virtuous, no one has a full obligation to another human being.
Beliweving so would then follow a radical, Marxist social argument. Essentially, giving a reward to a person who gives up his or her own belongings
which was unobligated to be given in the first place is just in an of itself. In these two, usually opposing moral frameworks, incentivizing charity is

What Makes Member Entry Into Associations?
If you know the requirements for getting in the associations, it will make your life much easier through interacting, external environment, amount of
resources, and demographics. The most research question among the three questions that have an impact to me is what explains member entry into
associations. Entering any organizations, it's important to know the demographics, how they operate outside of the environment, and. how much
human resources is available for employees. For example, I was volunteering last semester at the All Stars Project. I was called for the interview, and
I noticed that most of the people that work there are blacks, between ages 35 and up. During the interview, they asked if I can hand out flyers outside
and they replied and said this cannot be done because I am a female. Throughout Newark, any organizations out there are affected by the external
environment. I think solidary benefits have an impact on how individuals interact in the association. According to Powell (2006), the author states that
members can join an association in order to make friends with like–minded individuals (p.528). I don't see how this statement can be reasonable; when
I am thinking about it, it's just like going to a club. I think membership association is a committed organization based on its mission and values.

Why Charity Is The Act Of Giving Money
Charity is the act of giving money, food, or other kinds of help to people who are poor, sick, etc. (Webster). Charity is also a form of assistance that
has the intentions of providing aid to people that have overcome tragic situations such as floods, tornados, or any other type of severe situation
where their home/property has been taken away or irreparably damaged. Many forms of charity are seen throughout our society in a variety of
examples. It is a key component in supporting the people of this world in dire need of some extra assistance providing hope to overcome situations
and look forward to a brighter future. Charity has evolved and continues to grow because of the many organizations that have developed in order to
help the public, individuals, and other sub–organizations. This critical form of aid has been known to provide people with low integrity a route to
produce fraudulent cases. Scheming people have found ways to take advantage of this help line and hide behind the ideals of a charity organization
abusing government perks and fraudulently moving money in other directions. For many years charity has taken twist and turns and has been turned
into what we call Charity Fraud in some situations. More research and implications of people committing this fraud has increased. It seems to be a
more common way of obtaining money each day. Charity Fraud is the exact same as Charity, meaning they obtain money for beneficial use. Except,

How Is Princess Diana A Hero
Many consider Princess Diana to have been the most favored members of the British Monarch (biography.com editors 1). She is the former wife of
Prince Charles, and the mother to Princes William and Harry. Her charitable work with children in impoverished countries has formed her reputation
as a role model for the people of Britain and the rest of the world. She traveled across the world helping those who are sick and injured. Her work in
Africa with the children injured by landmines brought her into the global spotlight (Wexford 3). Princess Diana was more than just a public figure and
royal, she was a loving person who brought light to social issues and cared for those who could not fend for themselves. A hero as defined in
Webster's Dictionary is a person who "a person admired for achievements or noble qualities" or "one who shows great courage." However, a hero is
more than a person's achievements. A hero is a person who is philanthropic, generous, and kind. Heros fight for those who can not fight for
themselves, and do not judge those who they are fighting for. They are charitable in ways other than donating money, they give their time and effort
in order to make the lives of others more pleasant. Heros display bravery. They are willing to go into a dangerous situation to help others that have
been affected. Social pressures and judgements do not affect a hero's willingness to help others, they are willing to push through what others say in

Essay on Week 3
1. What are the current challenges facing United Way? What are key issues in the general and non–profit charitable giving industry environments that
affect United Way's operations? The current challenges facing United Way were raising money to pay for general operational cost, recruiting and
keeping fundraisers, and when celebrities donate large amount discourage others that may not be able to afford to give that much charity. Another
challenge United Way was facing was that people who donated wanted to know where or what their money were used for. This opposed a challenge
because United Way were not a charity that had one single focus like those that focused their attentions on one disaster, for example, 9/11 or Katrina.

United Way's past strategies that leadership has tried in the past was trying to raise money through as many clients as possible. Brian Gallagher
currently the CEO has made a dramatic change in the company's approach. Brian established new membership's standards to enhance the level of
accountability. He changes the company's image of just fund raising to doing what matters in the community. Brian believes this will lead to less
finger pointing about where is the money donate going to and this will be proof. The past strategies were successful because of record reaching
donations that United Way has once reached but like all things must evolve in order to survive.
4. What unique responsibilities does United Way have regarding ethical behavior and "best practice" governance and financial accountability models?
How successful will United Way be in creating change at the local level? Is United Way's mission still viable? United Way unique responsibility it has
regarding ethical behavior and best practice regarding governance and financial accountability has change the focus from fund raising to "how much
impact did we have on our community?" Brian believes it is the company responsibility to be accountable to the investors by creating value and
offering a concrete return. UWW governance their local offices by requesting an annual report to the headquarters. Making change will be easier by
taking the annual report

To Give Is To Receive

  • 1. To Give is To Receive The idea of giving has been around since biblical times. Its quoted in the bible over (2000 times). Through the centuries, although it has maintained it's initial roots of helping thy neighbor, it has evolved into a significant multi–billion dollar business, and has been well accepted by the general public. Giving is world word in acceptance, and crosses all civilized borders. The Federal Government has recognized the importance of charitable giving in (xxxx) in the tax code by developing the 501–3C, which has become the biggest vehicle in which "givers" use to access their charitable organization. The need for Charity Minutes is simple. Charities are looking for ways to become sustainable, which means for the most part they must seek alternative means for raising funds. The once or twice a year (chicken dinner) fund raising event, the silent auction, and the annual golf tournament, although sometimes successful, will not sustain them. Aid and grants from local government has reached an all time low. Their influential board of directors of doctors, attorneys, Indian chiefs and leaders of business, have less time to spend on boards, and have more difficulty with the goals of attaining those sustainability dollars. Charitable donors now more than ever, are scrutinizing every dollar they give and are asking the question, what are you doing to become sustainable. Although the charities (non–profits) have a good relationship with the (for–profit) business community, at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Poverty, Poor, And Poor The concepts of "worthy" and "unworthy" poor came about during the English Poor Laws that were introduced in the 1500's. The English poor laws classified poor or dependent people into three major categories and established many requirement before aid was provided. Dependent persons were categorized as: vagrant (nomadic; with no permanent home or employment), the involuntary unemployed and the helpless. In effect, the poor laws separated the poor into two classes which were the worthy and the unworthy. The worthy were classified as orphans, widows, handicapped, or the frail elderly. The unworthy were the drunkards, suspicious, or lazy. (Hansan, J.E. (2011). Poor relief in early America) A major theme that was established during this time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The workers saw the persistent abuse of immigrants, the terrible working conditions in factories and sweatshops, and the failure of public officials to enforce laws. Settlement house residents soon learned that the conditions of the poor people in the neighborhoods were most often not the result of choice but of necessity. These discoveries led to the house residents acting as advocates on behalf of immigrants and their neighborhoods. Some even organized English classes and immigrant protective associations. At the same time as the settlement houses were in effect, the charities were being discouraged from giving public relief, during a period of financial crisis and unemployment. The society went into chaos and the charities began to panic. Due to the overwhelming amount of relief necessary, charity workers argued that there needed to be a scientific way to establish who would get relief. Therefore, private charities were combined into an organization called the COS, and others like it followed. These organizations were there to conduct investigations and distinguish the worthy from the unworthy poor and based on their findings, refer them to relief agencies. Where the COS blamed the poor for their situation, the settlement houses strived to prove that it was a societal issue. The settlement houses paved the way for community organization and didn't focus on the COS's distinction of worthy and unworthy. The social workers in the settlement houses focused on reducing ... • 3. The Government Is Subsidizing What Robert Reich Has A ``... It might come as a surprise to learn that the government is subsidizing what Robert Reich has called a "plutocratic bias" in the charitable sector at a steep cost to the national treasury. This is in large part because the charitable tax deduction, which serves as the charitable sector's primary financing mechanism, creates tax incentive structures for donors that are steeply regressive. In 2012, tax subsidies to the charitable sector cost the government more than $50 billion in lost tax revenue. Given the billions of dollars in government subsidies and donations, it seems only reasonable to ask if this sector actually supports "charity" by meeting the needs of the most disadvantaged in our society, which is what we have historically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consider these high–profile examples of the mega–donor phenomenon: billionaire donor financier Stephen Schwartzman just gave Yale University $150 million in May 2015 for a cultural center, while hedge fund manager John Paulson gave Harvard $400 million weeks later for its engineering school. As part of the deal, Yale's new cultural center will bear Schwartzman's name, and Harvard's engineering school will be rechristened in Paulson's honor. Both will receive handsome tax deductions as a result of their self–aggrandizing gifts (with no decrease in that deduction to account for the ostensible value in having buildings with their names on them). Mind you, Harvard and Yale are the two wealthiest universities in the world, each with endowments over $20 billion. This raises the question: should the government be subsidizing hundred million dollar donations from the wealthy to such well–endowed institutions? Is this use of the charitable tax deduction defensible? The tax code is directly implicated in this: there is no economic incentive for low–income people to donate to charity since the only way to claim a charitable tax deduction is if you itemize, and most low–income people do not itemize their tax returns. That fact alone prevents millions of taxpayers from helping to set the agenda of the charitable sector in the way that the wealthier are incentivized to do through the ... The awareness of possible decrease in crime rates brought attention to those worried about the unfortunate violence records that are occurring. It has helped decrease the fear and discrimination that some citizens have towards specific cultures, religions and beliefs by empowering the good that comes from being "different" ("Carson"). Furthermore, the American Immigration Council has fulfilled many immigrants lives by bringing families together and giving them a chance to live a better life in the United States. According to the Internet Wire journal, the AIC has given a chance for Henry Cejudo, Olympic gold medalist, to celebrate with his mother by honoring her at their annual benefit ("Honors Olympic Gold Medalist"). The AIC was able to bring this family together and put a smile on their faces during that proud moment. Politics The issue of immigration is a constant concern for many in the United States and around the world. It connects to the political debate topic of building the wall to prevent Mexican immigrants from entering the country as well as send away the illegal immigrants that are living here as well. According to Renwick & Lee , as President Donald Trump begins his presidency, he has been sharing about how he wants to build a wall on the borders to eliminate any immigrants from entering the USA. Having a new phone every six months has become the norm. We need to get the focus of me and see the world around us. Historical Trends Of Human Service Policy Historical Trends in Human Service Policy In the context of human service, the current practice of social welfare in Europe and America is a product of evolutionary change. The social welfare structure in countries such as Canada, France, and the United States draw from English social welfare policies that created foundational structures of current social welfare practice. The practice of social welfare traces back to English heritage spanning back to a time when English policies operated in British colonies (Guest, 1997). English policies such as the Elizabethan Poor Laws of 1594 and 1601 and the 1662 Law of Settlement and Removal defined human service and social welfare in England and her colonies (Ascoli & Cnaan, 1997). One of the profound historical trends in regards to human service was the English poor laws that governed the treatment of the poor. Following the enactment of the Elizabethan poor laws in 1601, the English embarked on an entirely new approach of dealing with the poor in the society. While the poor laws appeared harsh in England and colonial in English colonies, these laws defined policies that spearheaded action in human service in regards to the treatment of the poor in society. Essentially, the concepts, ideologies, policies, approaches, and discourse provided by the pool laws defined a human service structure that still informs the current practice of social welfare (Carniol, 2005). Prior to the Elizabethan poor laws, the practice of social welfare consisted of voluntary subscription to a poor–relief fund by the poor coupled with the use of harsh punishment to discourage vagabonds and beggars (Guest, 1997). This practice related to a general assumption that paupers or rather the poor suffered from moral deficiency that render them poor and dependent (Hasenfeld & Garrow, 2012). In this regard, the treatment of the poor was most often than not harsh. The Elizabethan poor laws however ushered in a new dispensation that resumed full public responsibility for the poor and the destitute in the society. According to Singer (1972) states that he had, "One objection to the position I have taken might be simply that it is too drastic a revision of our moral scheme. So, if the wealthy aren't seeing the struggles of others, they can't feel empathy and will be less likely to donate. Donating money is one of the many ways someone can help altruistically. During the Middle Ages, the majority of peasants in Feudal Europe were loyal and submissive to their nobles, motivated by the values taught in their strong Catholic belief system. According to "Chapter XVI: The Life of the Peasants", the successes of many nobles and knights were due to the faithfulness of their peasants, whom they had oppressed and wronged (Davis 46). According to Judith Warner, a New York Times journalist who specializes in psychology, the charitable giving deficit is due to the lack of empathy towards the hardships of the poor among their rich counterparts (Warner 2). In light of this, it is important to determine how socioeconomic background influences donation patterns in order to bridge the charitable giving gap. Altruistic behaviors in their quintessential form are selflessly motivated prosocial actions; they influence virtually all human interactions. In America, altruism is ostensibly embodied in the giving patterns of wealthy philanthropists who have a history of creating endowments and donating assets to higher education and other charitable programs. However, in reality, the lower and middle classes account for most of the charitable giving in America. Furthermore, altruism is identified with prosocial behavior, or actions that benefit society as a whole, in sociological interactions. Individuals who come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are more altruistic because their increased empathy for human welfare and intrinsic self–transcendent value systems motivate them to give more readily. • 28. Summary Of Toxic Charity By Robert Lupton Robert Lupton (2011) clearly states his thesis in the opening line of his book; "What Americans avoid facing is that while we are very generous in charitable giving, much of that money is either wasted or actually harms the people it is targeted to help" (pg. 1). Wrapped in this sentence are several themes that Lupton seeks to unpack throughout his work. He lays the foundation for the need of charitable reform by providing examples and insight into instances where charitable giving can harm where it intended to help. Then he goes on to provide numerous examples of charitable giving that helps instead of harms its recipients. Throughout the book he contributes ways to turn harmful giving into helpful giving. • 29. Kantianism And Altruism Charity. Philanthropy. Altruism. These three words ultimately point to the single, ultimate goal: "to help". In fact, charitable giving is the act of donating money to a certain cause, so that more people are "helped" overall. However, many organizations, such as the federal government, offer tax reductions while other organizations offer other perks for charitable giving. Some see incentives to charity as demeaning the virtue of "selfless giving," yet these critics lose sight of the actual goal of charity: to help other people in its cause. Charity is not to allow people to think that they are more "moral," but it's for the people instead. Incentivising charitable giving is not only just, but it is also warranted for the final goal of assisting as many people as possible. From my observations, I first look towards the increasing socioeconomic gap between the upper and the lower class. Indeed, many wealthy people such as Bill Gates ... First, Jeremy Bentham wrote many papers describing the philosophy of utility, where an action is just if it does the most good to the most amount of people. In bringing incentives, we not only help more people for a cause, but we can all many who want to give charitably a chance to do so by offsetting the cost. Under Kantianism, Immanuel Kant also states that although charitable giving is itself virtuous, no one has a full obligation to another human being. • 30. What Makes Member Entry Into Associations? If you know the requirements for getting in the associations, it will make your life much easier through interacting, external environment, amount of resources, and demographics. The most research question among the three questions that have an impact to me is what explains member entry into associations. Entering any organizations, it's important to know the demographics, how they operate outside of the environment, and. how much human resources is available for employees. For example, I was volunteering last semester at the All Stars Project. I was called for the interview, and I noticed that most of the people that work there are blacks, between ages 35 and up. During the interview, they asked if I can hand out flyers outside and they replied and said this cannot be done because I am a female. Throughout Newark, any organizations out there are affected by the external environment. I think solidary benefits have an impact on how individuals interact in the association. According to Powell (2006), the author states that members can join an association in order to make friends with like–minded individuals (p.528). I don't see how this statement can be reasonable; when I am thinking about it, it's just like going to a club. I think membership association is a committed organization based on its mission and values. Some of the factors that are discussed in the reading which explains how a person interacts contributing to money for a charitable cause. Three of the factors are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charity is also a form of assistance that has the intentions of providing aid to people that have overcome tragic situations such as floods, tornados, or any other type of severe situation where their home/property has been taken away or irreparably damaged. Many forms of charity are seen throughout our society in a variety of examples. It is a key component in supporting the people of this world in dire need of some extra assistance providing hope to overcome situations and look forward to a brighter future. Charity has evolved and continues to grow because of the many organizations that have developed in order to help the public, individuals, and other sub–organizations. This critical form of aid has been known to provide people with low integrity a route to produce fraudulent cases. Scheming people have found ways to take advantage of this help line and hide behind the ideals of a charity organization abusing government perks and fraudulently moving money in other directions. For many years charity has taken twist and turns and has been turned into what we call Charity Fraud in some situations. More research and implications of people committing this fraud has increased. They are charitable in ways other than donating money, they give their time and effort in order to make the lives of others more pleasant. Heros display bravery.
