General Updates ā€¢ Reminder of Alibaba Cloud for student access to learning materials from China ā€¢ Reading week is confirmed for week 6 of term 2 ā€¢ Teaching approach is the same as for term 1 ā€¢ Module prep for term 2 ā€“ make sure you connect with DLD support in good time ā€¢ Incubator/CEMPS event on 17th December focused on developing ELE pages ā€¢ Digital Learning Fellowship application deadline is 5pm Monday December 7th

Todayā€™s session Lisa Harris, Steph Comley (TEL), Millie Britton and Maria de Oliveira Pazzianotto Pinto (DLAs) will discuss the benefits that integrating FutureLearn MOOCs and LinkedIn Learning resources within modules offer to students: ā€¢ MOOCs as on demand, open, collaborative learning ā€¢ Digital Technologies and the Future of Work (BEM2034/BEP2120) ā€¢ The FutureLearn Campus project ā€¢ MOOCs as ā€œtastersā€ to encourage learner sign up to paid courses via the Study UK campaign run in partnership with the British Council. ā€¢ LinkedIn Learning

On demand, open, collaborative learning ā€¢ Materials designed for inclusivity and accessibility ā€¢ Mobile first platform ā€¢ Asynchronous learning offers flexibility of study timing and no specialist equipment beyond a wifi connection ā€¢ Incorporate multicultural perspectives and global collaboration opportunities between learners ā€¢ Can be used as building blocks for credit bearing short courses and whole degree programmes ā€¢ Full list of 20 Exeter MOOCs

Digital Technologies and the Future of Work BEM2034/BEP2120 ā€¢ Over 300 students in 2020 (72 from Penryn) ā€¢ Open to students from all disciplines ā€¢ Available (since before Covid) by asynchronous learning via MOOC/ELE with additional small group cafĆ© sessions ā€¢ The model of learning and assessment fits well with many ILPs ā€¢ Students are asked to reflect on what theyā€™ve learned from MOOC interaction with a global cohort of learners ā€¢ Presented as a case study at the 2020 Advance HE Conference

BEM2034 ā€“ Digital Technologies and The Future of Work Interesting, relevant and current topics; Interacting in the forums ā€“ new dynamic, not present in any other module online for this year; Easy to navigate ELE pages, with consistency throughout the weeks; Clear module descriptor; Student interaction; Relevant synchronous sessions.

  • 8. ā€¢Find out moreā€¦ StudyUK ā€¢ Promotes study in the UK around the world ā€¢ 50,000 free digital upgrades ā€¢ Taster of study at UK institutions ā€¢ Lead generation of UoE course ā€¢ Iterative process A campaign delivered in partnership by FutureLearn and The British Council. Aims to increase access to education in less economically-developed countries.

LinkedIn Learning ā€“ What is it? ā€¢ Courses on Business, Creativity and Technology; ā€¢ From 25 to 30 new courses are released each week; ā€¢ Good way of covering gaps on your CV when applying to a job; ā€¢ Learning paths to help developing a specific skill; ā€¢ Issues a certificate at the end, which you can share on LinkedIn or bring up at job interviews; ā€¢ Skill section: Choose the skills that interests you and LIL will suggest courses for you based on that.
  • 10. What have we found most useful? Skill section: Choose the skills that interest you and LIL will recommend courses based on those interests DLA Comments: ā€œI think LinkedIn Learning is a great platform for filling gaps in my CV. For example, I can build on my Excel skills at my own pace. Itā€™s also got a huge range of videos focused on employability, such as Interview Tips.ā€ Maria, DLA ā€œI think LinkedIn Learning is important for professional profile development. It gives you the opportunity to work on skills that you might not get much exposure to during your degree. For example, I completed a Presentation Skills short course. I would like to spend some time working on different skills outside my subject area, such as coding, and LinkedIn Learning gives you that chance.ā€ Millie DLA Course length differs between 10 minutes and 12 hours ļƒ  completely flexible
