Hell-Personal Narrative
I was done, I needed out, and I needed out now. There was plenty of time before college started and
I was in need of this thrill before 4 years of hell settled upon me. I stuffed my bag with clothes,
small items I would need, and my wallet.
"They thought they were in charge. Huh." Barely whispering as I smirked.
"Not any more boys, not anymore." I opened the bedroom door and shuffled down the hall, it kept
the floor from squeaking. I grabbed my car keys and hiking boots and headed out the door.
Days prior I had bought things that were needed for this trip and kept them in the shed. I went to
REI and ended up running into my mother's friend, that scared me. Last night while my brother was
out I filled up his car with everything I would need. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I went back into the shop and ordered the same thing, but to go. I got back in my car and thought
about all the hikes my family and I took a while back. My mind wandered to my parents, now
working internationally. They only came home for a weekend every other month. It was up to my
brothers to watch me this summer, to keep me entertained in Newton while all my friends went
down to the Cape and the Islands while I had to suck it up and be here.
"Good thing I left. Shows em a thing or two about how much the boys got freedom compared to
me." I announced in my car.
The caffeine had finally kicked in. I decided that if Jane wanted a ride she would have known where
to find me. I went back to my hotel, went on another run and completely lost track of time. The
ocean does that to me sometimes.
Arriving back at my tent I packed up. I felt like I had made a friend yesterday, only to realize, I was
on this trip alone. The beginning of road trip was a realization of what happens in life if someone
walks into your life, looks like they could comfort you or be your friend for a while but in the end
their or you are going to get up, quietly change plans, and move on hoping that the adventure or in
my case road trip will be better.
P.S. It will get better. I went on to see some of the most beautiful places in the country alone, and
Park Rangers know how to party. Fuck the tourists and weird ass

Why Do We Need Assistance In The Intouchables
There are many films that focus individuals who need assistance in daily living activities. From
these films we can gain lots of information regarding types of conditions, the supports they need,
and how a care professional and/or human service provider can help. The movie The Intouchables is
based on the journey Abdel Sellou and Philippe Borgo travelled together. It reflects on the
compassionate care required in assisting others, and takes a look at the challenges a paraplegic
individual encounters. Philippe needs assistance in any activity that would require movement and
Abdel, played as Driss, is randomly selected to be the caregiver providing the assistance.
Throughout the film there are emotional challenges, along with the physical; we get to see how the
care providers can deal with these.

When they are cornered the men lie to the police, and pretend Philippe is in cardiac arrest and needs
to get to the hospital. The police then escort them to the hospital; when they leave Driss and Philippe
laugh and then drive away. Then the story is played as a flashback, starting with Driss (a man from
the projects) looking to receive the unemployment benefit. In order to receive the benefit he must
provide proof that he had been looking for work and was refused, so he interrupts an interviewing
process at Phillippe's and demands a signature. Philippe is a quadriplegic, looking for a new live in
caregivers. Driss comes off rude and disrespectful, cutting inappropriate jokes toward the
quadriplegic man, and sending inappropriate gestures toward Philippe's assistant Magalie. Philippe
requests Driss comes back the following day to pick up his papers, but instead of signing the papers,
he challenges Driss to take the caregiver position. Driss accepts this challenge, and moves into the

Early Life
I was born in the Ocean Beach district in L.A on May 28th, 1991. My parents, Tommy Freeman
(July 2th, 1964) and Nikol Freeman (June 14st, 1969) were both from Naples, Italy. My father was a
Coast Guard in L.A, and my mother a bar tender. We weren't a poor family, but we weren't a rich
family. My father made sure I was sent to school early, and ensure that I did well at school. My
mother always used to tell me that "One day Henry, I know you'll make me rich". On December,
12th, 1996 my brother, Pablo Freeman was born. After that, I lost my father–son relationship with
my father, as I always felt that he loved my brother more than me, even naming my brother after
himself. I carried on with school, and went through college, but I lost ... Show more content on

A pretty girl in a white dress smiling at me. I return the smile, and then notice it isn't a white dress,
it's a nurse uniform. I look around me, I'm in a hospital bed. The room was white a moment ago.
Now it's black. And I'm gone.
It took a few weeks of gaining consciousness and falling back into unconsciousness before I
stopped. Bob visited me a few times, and told me what had happened. The shooter had shot me in
the back as I lept over the trunk, and Bob retaliated by unloading his gun into the shooter's face. The
shooter was a member of a Gang that was against Bob's gang. I hadn't even known Bob was in a
gang, and I was being shot for it. Bob was facing years on the inside, but the Court trial was still
going, and he was fighting for self–defence.
I remember my back never hurting the entire time, it only became incredibly itchy. The Doctor's told
me the shotgun shells could have shattered my spine, but missed. I have the scars to this day.

I Am Born On The World
Introduction:
Steveland (Stevie) Hardaway Judkins was born on the 13th of May, 1950 in Saginaw Michigan
(Bio, 2015). Due to being born six weeks premature, Stevie was placed in an incubator to help
maintain his breathing (Bio, 2015 &
Stevie Wonder, 2011). The forced oxygen caused the retinas in the back of his eyes to become
unattached, leaving Stevie permanently blind (Bio, 2015). This happened due to the growth of blood
vessels in the back of the eyes not fully developing correctly (Wikipedia, 2015).
Even though Stevie was left with no vision he began playing the harmonica at age 4, learnt to play
piano at age 6 and took up drum lessons when he was 8 years old (Bio, 2011). In 1961, Stevie had
the opportunity to sing to Ronnie White ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apart from being involved in many helpful campaigns and events, Stevie's music and lyrics inspired
musicians everywhere. Jackson 5, Prince, Lionel Richie and D'Angelo all believed that Stevie
Wonder had a massive impact on music and song writing (Shmoop, 2015). Musicians such as the
Miracles, Ray Charles and Johnny Ace all influenced Stevie to pursue a career in the music industry
(Shmoop, 2015). Even though he is blind, he has not let that stop him from doing what he wants to
do. Stevie once said "Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes doesn't mean he lacks vision"
(Brainy Quote, 2015).
Development:
The Tamla label offered Stevie a five year contract but made it clear that all his money would be
kept in a trust fund until he was at least 21 years old (Wikipedia, 2015). In 1962, Stevie released his
first album 'The Jazz Soul of Little Stevie'. He then released his first recorded album, 'Tribute to
Uncle Ray in October, the same year (Wikipedia, 2015). When Stevie was just 12 years old he
toured America through the 'chitlin circuit' theatres (Wikipedia, 2015). In May 1963, his
performance at the Regal Theatre in Chicago was recorded and formed into a live album, 'The 12
Year Old Genius' (Wikipedia, 2015). A few months later, when Stevie was 13, his first number 1 hit
single appeared on the Billboard 100 chart (Wikipedia, 2015).
Stevie starred in Muscle Beach Party and Bikini Beach as himself, during the year

My Best Friend Essay
I always remember her as my best friend. The girl that would run through the woods with me,
whether the day was scorching hot or the ground was frozen under our feet. Building forts with the
dried sticks of juniper trees, or hiking around on the 9+ acres of my family land. I can remember
how the grass would blow in the middle of a hot day and make the golden grass blow around. The
way it would make the grass bow over, and the rustling of the leaves and the way they sounded as
they rubbed together. We would do everything with each other. She was the brunet that ever blond
friend wishes they had. Her, her brothers and I would spend hours on top of hours outside, or finding
some river to swim in. Driving for hours, we would make our way up the Texas coast ever summer.
Some of my best memories from when I was a child were made there with my best friend. They will
forever be stuck in my brain like cobwebs to a corner of a house that just doesn't seem to want to go
away. The feeling of the hot sand under my feet and diving under the waves with my best friend was
all I could ever want in this world. There held by the crisp water, listening to the way the water hit
the shore made for the perfect summers, and I never wanted anything else. We did absolutely
everything together. Once we were hiking back into this beautiful grove of trees with her brothers,
and on the other side of these towering green oaks was a gorgeous patch of the river that was so
much bluer

Nutcracker Research Paper
Happy first day of Winter, Sara! How is it that everyone else is so fluid and dry during hot power
yoga, while I'm wondering "what's up with my stabilizer muscles" and should I bring two towels
next time!? But I really enjoyed it, and I've even been back three times already. It helps that it's so
warm in there. I think it's 95 F which is plenty hot for me :) How was the Nutcracker performance?
That's too funny that we both went this weekend. The urban version was really good. At times it felt
like a traditional ballet and at other times it felt like a street dance–off :) Is the Hasbro Global Day of
Joy an event or is it a day to volunteer on your own? It's really nice to know the company you work

The Invasion of Normandy
Introduction The invasion of Normandy, also known as Operation Overlord or D–Day, was perhaps
one of the most important battles in the human history. The invasion took place on June 4, 1944, at
the Coast of Normandy in France. Troops from over twelve countries, including Canada, the United
Kingdom, and the United States of America participated in the fight against Germany. Although the
battles were enduring and hard–fought, the Allies achieved the final victory; the Allies were finally
able to set their feet on the European soil again. The Allied invasion of Normandy was a major
turning point of the war that led to the ultimate liberation of Europe from the Nazi forces.
An Overview of the Invasion
Preparations
Ever since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a strong backup, the Allied troops were able to advance through the enemy–occupied countries
with lightening speed. Therefore, the attack not only led to the French people's freedom, but also to
the quick downfall of Nazi Germany. (Naval History and Heritage– D–Day, the Normandy Invasion,
6 – 25 June 1944)
Relief of Soviet's pressure Other than causing the liberation of France and the establishment of a
new battlefront, the invasion also relieved the Soviet Union's pressure. Before the Invasion,
Germany had over two million troops fighting against the Red Army in the Eastern Front, and many
of Soviet's cities were captured. The Russians fought desperately to protect their cities. However,
after the invasion, with the launch of a new major battlefront in the West, Hitler had to transport
many of his forces to the West in order to defend his own country. Without as many troops to fight
against, the Soviet army was able to push through Czechoslovakia, Poland and eventually penetrate
into Germany; the Soviet Union's progress greatly sped up the endof the war. (Naval History and
Heritage– D–Day, the Normandy Invasion, 6 – 25 June 1944)
Significance of the Invasion on smaller scales On much smaller scales, the Battle of Normandy was
also quite important. The depressed Europeans, who had been living in the shadow of war for the
past four years, were delighted by the news of victory. In

Speedo Innovation
Speedo innovation:
Swimwear companies have invested millions designing high–performance suits for the upcoming
Beijing Olympics. Can design help swimmers finish faster?
Following the 2004 Athens Olympics, officials at swimwear giant Speedo had good reason to
celebrate: Athletes clad in their latest suits at the time, called Fastskin FSII, won 46 medals in the
pool. Yet when the company 's in–house design team, Aqualab, gathered soon after the games at
company headquarters in Nottingham, Britain, they were already focused on how to innovate the
next generation.
"We looked at all the suits and the competition and what was good and bad," recalls Jason Rance,
worldwide head of Aqualab. Four years later, after a multimillion–dollar research ... Show more

Speedo 's Fastskin, introduced in 2000, replicated a shark 's skin.
Olympic Hopefuls
Several manufacturers are chasing one another to introduce engineered pool gear for the Beijing
games. Arena 's new suit is called the R–Evolution, while Adidas unveiled the TechFit Powerweb, as
well as a suit designed specifically for breaststroke swimmers. Meanwhile, Huntington Beach
(Calif.)–based TYR, a unit of Swimwear Anywhere, launched the Tracer Light and Tracer Rise as
their Olympic hopefuls.
At TYR, the development of new suits centered on creating a lighter–weight fabric that doesn 't leak
or take on water, using a woven rather than a knitted fabric, after TYR 's researchers found that
knitted fabrics drop moisture between fibers. A polyurethane coating was added to create a smoother
surface, and compression panels reduce muscle undulation.
One difference with Speedo 's LZR is that TYR 's new model–which will retail for between $80 and
$350–has stayed with stitched seams. The advantage of stitching, argues Jeremy Tongish, TYR 's
merchandising director, is that it holds the fabric around the compression panels more effectively,
which means a firmer grip on the muscles and therefore greater energy return. "If [athletes] squeeze
themselves into a tighter suit with bonded seams, it exerts a lot of force on the fabric," he says,
implying that sewn suits will be longer–lasting and tighter–fitting.

Summary Of The Poem Of America By William Whitman
It is in this sense that Whitman, always the egalitarian, who said of America and its people that 'This
is the city and I am one of its citizens' (NAofAl, p.1347), posits the totality of American society as
being involved in the active composition of the Poem of America. Indeed, in the Preface to Leaves
of Grass, Whitman encourages his readers to 'plunge [their] semitic muscle' (NAofAL, p.1309) into
America in an act of national pro–creation! All facets of society must involve themselves in seeking
out their truths and experiences to contribute to this poem, and so Whitman asserts that 'You are also
asking my questions...,/I answer that I cannot answer, you must find out for yourself' (NAofAL,
p.1352). America is a new space for individuals and groups alike to forge their own lives, free from
the burdensome shackles of the Old World. In presenting America as a fundamentally new space for
the development of what William Carlos Williams described as 'a rebel viewpoint, an American
viewpoint' , it becomes clear that Whitman's song is one of projection. That is, in accordance with
Whitman's view of the poet as 'the true son of God' and one who 'incarnates [America's] geography
and natural life and rivers and lakes' (NAofAL, p.1299), comes to order reality by way of his
language: with every line that he writes, the poet projects a world of order, meaning, and identity
into a space that was lacking up until the moment of projection – a particularly American Genesis.

Analysis of Steven Spielberg's Creation of Tension and Suspense in Jaws

Sound and music, camera shots, red herrings and tension in the plot. I will also include a conclusion
and will give my vies on the scariest moment of the film and provide my reasons for this

Chrissie decides to go for a swim. We get a shot from underneath the water with mysterious music
lasting around ten seconds when the musical cue for the shark cuts in. The point of view shot works
really well with the music, as we do not yet know what is in the water. The director keeps us, the
viewers; unaware of what is actually the culprit of these revolting attack. As the film progresses we
learn to associate the music with an imminent shark attack.
The next attack is that of a little boy Alex kintner. There are people playing on the beach and in the
water. Brody (the police chief) is sitting tentatively, watching things intently. He hears screams from
a young girl, but of course they are playful screams. Then we see a man playing fetch the stick with
his dog. We also see a rather large lady go into the water, and finally we meet Alex Kintner. These
are all very likely suspects of the next shark attack. Alex Kintner goes out on his lilo into the water.
Then we get a point of view shot from under the water, but no music. The shark is not yet there.
Something is approaching but we are not sure if we are being teased or not. Meanwhile we see a
stick floating in the water and the man calling out for his dog. This makes us feel uncomfortable as
the suspense increases. Next we see more children splashing and then the film cuts to a point of
view shot

Being a Teenage Mother Essay
It was a beautiful afternoon on the bay of Huntington Beach. Just what would be expected of any
regular day in California. The sun was shining inexplicably, as if it knew what was coming, the sky
was clear with one cloud across the horizon, the sand was boiling and I could literally feel the
bottom of my foot melting away. The air was scented with the sweetness of spring and refreshed by
gentle breezes. There are families everywhere I look, playing endlessly with their kids, throwing
beach balls around, tanning their bodies until it turns to ebony, walking their precious dogs, and
riding their bicycles until their muscles deteriorated. The beach is adult's playground.

Obviously, she was a teenage mother who went through difficult times. "Being a teenage mother is
the single most difficult thing I have ever gone through. Having my daughter at the age of seventeen

that I should regret are the things I learned from, which at the end of it all, are what make me

Struggle is a natural thing in life. There is no escaping the struggles that life will throw at you. But
when you struggle, there is always success soon to come. Surfing taught me that you must fall
before you can stand. That you will struggle before you succeed. When most girls turn sixteen years
old, they want a big party, with presents, loud music, loads of friends, and just overall craziness. At
least that's how I always imagined it. I didn't want any of that. I didn't want the presents or the music
or anything close to a party. When I turned sixteen, I wanted to go to Hawaii. Although the whole
trip was very memorable for me and my entire family, the day that sticks out the most is the day I
learned how to surf. The bright blue skin guard was baggy on my average framed body. I wiggled
my toes in the damp water shoes wishing that I could stay barefoot and wiggle them in the soft
white sand. The instructor, Joseph, was teaching my dad, Daniel–a man we had met that day while
getting ready for our lesson–and me how to surf the waves of Oahu. Joseph handed me a long board
with a beautiful blue hibiscus on the back of the board. The three of us sat in the warm sand
listening to Joseph explain how to get into proper form when catching a wave. Although words were
coming out of his mouth, I was captivated by the water and ignoring the lesson which is probably
important. Eventually we start doing drills on the sand on the steps to catch a wave and this time my

Retail Possums Research Paper
The use of 1080 poison to control possums within New Zealand has been quite a big biological issue
over the years. The bushtail possums were introduced to New Zealand in 1837 for the fur trade by
Australia. This poison is commonly used in New Zealand to target the control of the possum
population as well as other invasive rodents, as these pest eat vulnerable native animals such as,
birds, lizards and insects, but this poison is highly toxic for deer, and dogs. Minimizing the number
of possums mean that the agriculture and forestry to will be able to thrive more. Possums
themselves don't have any predators to control their population, as they can live in any New Zealand
condition, which has now caused human involvement to help control the issue. Biological concepts

The Effects Of Drugs And Alcohol On Society
Every human on Earth looks through different lenses. Some may be good lenses and others bad. It
could be a mix of both. I see the world through four different lenses and they are positive, caring,
polite, and creative. These effectively show how they affect my relationships, my life, and how I see
the world. Even though I do not think I see through these lenses, everyone tells me I am happy, I
help others in need, I am respectful, and I am imaginative. My parents have always been positive
influences in my life. They have helped me in being the person who I am today. I have been shown
that drugs and alcohol are not needed at a young age, or at all. When you are older and your brain
has fully developed maybe then you can start drinking. Drugs can harm you and put you down a
terrible path. By this, it has helped me make positive choices in my life. I eat healthy and exercise to
have a state of well–being. I see my parents cook healthy meals and exercise regularly they tell me
that it's not dieting it's a lifestyle to be healthy. I receive love, appreciation and encouragement to do
better in school and in sports to help with my state of well–being. My relatives are here to support
me. My cousin Melina and I are much alike. She supports me as much as I support her on how we
want to maintain healthy lifestyles. Some examples are that Melina and I have chosen not to smoke,
not to drink at a young age, not to do drugs, or be lazy. Melina and I talk about the latest exercises

This paper is just the latest to come from Professor Henshilwood and others' research on African

There is increasing evidence for an African origin for behavioral and technological modernity more

My Favorite Memory Of Reading
My furthest memory of learning how to read was when my classmates and I were all sitting
crisscross applesauce on the giant, colorful rug in our library. Our librarian, Mrs. Cash, would read
us Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Kids, one of my favorite series of books as I was growing up, and
would read it very slow to us so we could understand and showed us all of the pretty pictures. After
she read to us, we were each allowed to pick out a book and go to the little tables and attempt to
read it. I can remember hearing each student sounding words out and laughing at the pictures and it
was a genuinely fun experience. Throughout elementary school, going to the library was one of the
most fun things to do. I loved when we would have little competitions to see who could read the
most books and receive the most Accelerated Reader (AR) points. Most of the time, the one who
had the most points every six weeks, in each grade level (Pre–Kindergarten–5th), would receive a
pizza and popcorn party which was always a pleasurable way to reward us. Overall, my elementary
experience was highly fascinating. Once I got into junior high, things got a little more momentous.
All of the teachers started talking to us about college and how we needed to start getting serious
about school and decide what we want to do with our life in the future. From English class to art
class, we would read all day. We'd have books, lectures, instructions, descriptions, prompts, and
rules to read. I figured that's

Is Summer Reading In Elinor Lipman's The Dearly Departed
Carefree summer? Try mean season I'm sorry to say this, especially now, when we're nearing the
end of our time together, but I'm sick of being bossed around by summer. I was at a bookstore the
other day, looking for something good to read, when Elinor Lipman's ``The Dearly Departed'' caught
my eye. The book has gotten great reviews, and the blurb on the cover sold me: ``Almost nobody
writes serious entertainment anymore with more panache.'' Perfect, right? It seemed so, until I
turned the book over and saw this: ``This is summer reading at its best.'' Summer reading. Woe to
the fool who tries to read a light book – or, heaven forbid, see an action flick – come fall. I looked at
the clock on the bookstore wall. It was 7 p.m. Aug. 27. Some ... Show more content on

That's because summer is getting even for some infraction. Maybe someone wore seersucker after
Labor Day, or watched ``Beach Blanket Bingo'' or ``Grease'' in November, or, worse yet, served
peach cobbler at a Christmas party. That's when summer really flexes its muscles: It brings back
string bikinis, or makes the air conditioning in your office way too cold, or hikes the price of an iced
latte to four bucks. I'm not sure how summer consolidated its position, but I want the name of its
business manager. It's gotten so powerful that it's even managed to call off the food police. You're
supposed to eat hot dogs and ice cream and saltwater taffy during the summer. Oh, did I mention
that it's got the fashionistas in its pocket, too? In summer, you can wear a white T–shirt to work – a
man's undershirt, for goodness' sake – and get away with it. You can go to a party without blow–
drying your hair. ``Don't worry,'' a stylish woman said the other day after I apologized for my mop,
``it's too hot to blow dry.'' You can play hooky from work during the summer and it's considered a
sign of mental health. Only uptight losers show up when it's clear out and 73 degrees. Summer
pretends to be so carefree, but don't be fooled. Think about it: It's the only season with a ``to do''

How Does Fitzgerald Use Figurative Language In The Great...
The nation voted us to power to see unity and communal harmony, not for any division or
communality." – Khaleda Zia. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows how class expectations are
prevalent in the 20's through figurative language, imagery, details, diction, and syntax found in the
book.
Fitzgerald uses figurative language to give emphasis on the extravagant lifestyles of the rich in The
Great Gatsby. ¨My own house was an eyesore, but it was a small eyesore, and it had been
overlooked, so I had a view of the water, a partial view of my neighbor's lawn, and the consoling
proximity of millionaires –all for eighty dollars a month" (Fitzgerald 5). This quote gives an insight
to the lifestyle the rich enjoyed in the 20's which is a contrast of what the poor were doing in this
time period. The poor in this time period were cramped in houses and were overworked in factories.
This displays class expectations because it showed that the rich were extravagant.
Fitzgerald uses of imagery give the reader a visual to use when describing the lush reality of the
characters. "The lawn started at the beach and ran toward the front door for a quarter of a mile,
jumping over usn–dials and brick walks and burning gardens–finally when it reached the house
drifting up the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the novel Fitzgerald uses different sentence structure to show emphasis on a subject. For
example he uses repetition to show the carefree attitude the "old money" had because they were
financially stable. "The other girl, Daisy, made an attempt to rise––she leaned slightly forward with
a conscientious expression––then she laughed, an absurd, charming little laugh, and I laughed too
and came forward into the room" (Fitzgerald 7). Fitzgerald's repeated use of the word "laugh" shows
that Daisy is carefree and is happy which is an attitude that the rich people in this time period

In the federal government, power rests with the elected political party that holds the majority in the
House of Representatives. The leader is the prime minister. The Senate consists of 76 members who
are elected every six years. The House of Representatives has 147 members and they face elections
every three years. Any laws that involve changes to the Constitution must be decided by a
referendum in which the country's citizens are called to vote on whether or not they want such
changes to take place.      In the regional government, each of
Australia's states is administered by a parliament, which consists of a legislative council, and a
legislative assembly. The premier is the leader of the political party dominating the legislative
assembly. Each state runs its own schools and hospitals, administers its own laws, and has its own

How Stress Affects Physical Health
How to relieve stress physically & How Stress Affects Physical Health
People are increasingly facing more stress since the Human–Being society became developed and
complicated, by ignoring the physical influence to our body, Human's health suffered considerably
from stress. Many people was suggested to solve the stress problem by using psychological
approaches, however, the research in recent decades has identified a significant awareness gap
between the benefits of physical activities and stress relief. The following paper is aiming at
exploring how stress affects physical health and how to relieve stress physically.

Thirdly, physical exercise itself could re–shape our body, make body stronger and looks healthier. It
hence can improve individual's attractiveness and confidence and hence can enable a positive life
attitude. Fourthly, since the physical exercise normally would enable individual to interact with
others, socialising with participants and friends in a such low–stress way might meet human's
belonging needs. It therefore could make people have a good mood and recharge themselves to fight
against stress (Elizabeth, 2011).
Despite a great number of physical activities benefits in stress relief, it is difficult to implement it in
an effective way. Firstly, the stress relief effect of a certain type of physical exercise may vary based
on individual's differences. The body may react differently in different age group, gender, income
level, culture, education level and other segments parameter. Secondly, the lack of consistency
makes the effect difficult to be maintained and the stress hence may rebound quickly. Therefore, the
physical exercises need to be tailored regard to the different stressor. For example, high–energy and
competitive type of exercise would be suitable for those who cannot directly express their anger

The Emergence of Surf Music Essays
The Emergence of Surf Music
Many different music styles emerged during the early 1960's. One of these music styles that was
perhaps the most prominent music style to ever come out of Southern California was Surf Music.
Surf music was a short–lived phenomenon that occurred from 1961 to 1965 (Nostalgia, 2002).
Along with the surf music craze, Hollywood also started producing numerous movies about surfing,
including Gidget, and Endless Summer (St. James Encyclopedia, 2003 and Nostalgia, 2002). These
movies had some amazing soundtracks that helped popularize the surf music phenomenon. There
are two different forms of surf music; instrumental and vocal (Holm, 1998 and St. James
Encyclopedia, 2003). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, let's start with the innovator of surf music and the king of the surf guitar; Dick Dale. Dick was
originally from Boston, but he moved to Southern California when he was seventeen (Wikipedia,
2003). While in California, he became popular for his country guitar playing. At the same time, he
was spending a lot of time with the surfers on the beaches in California. He immediately became
intrigued by the spirit of the surf culture, and the splendor of the ocean waves. He began
experimenting with his music, trying to capture the rhythm and sounds of the ocean. He formed the
group Dick Dale and the Del–tones in 1961 (Wikipedia, 2003 and Bettenville). His live
performances became a huge local draw, and his double picking guitar style was admired by many
(even Leo Fender who asked him to test some of his new amplifier prototypes with the notion that if
his amplifiers could survive Dick Dale's playing, they could survive anything) (Bettenville). At the
end of 1961, he released his first single, "Let's Go Trippin'," which is considered to be the first surf
rock recording (St. James Encyclopedia, 2003). He followed that recording with a few more locally–
released songs, including "Jungle Fever" and "Surf Beat"

democratic ruler. He passes the conch symbolizing order around, lets others talk, follows rules and
does not intend to break them himself. There's trouble enforcing the laws just like our democracies,
today. However, we are still free–living citizens, much like the kids under Ralph's reign. Jack and
Roger are the complete opposite. Jack represents the savagery and hate in all of us. Starting out as a

were also used by Jack. Total control such as binding and strapping Wilfred and propaganda like
using the beast to inspire fear and presenting himself as the only protection is used in his dictatorial

An Autobiographical Portrayal of F. Scott Fitzgerald as...
Frances Scott Key Fitzgerald, born September 24, 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota, is seen today as one
of the true great American novelists. Although he lived a life filled with alcoholism, despair, and
lost–love, he managed to create the ultimate love story and seemed to pinpoint the ¡§American
Dream¡¨ in his classic novel, The Great Gatsby. In the novel, Jay Gatsby is the epitome of the
¡§self–made man,¡¨ in which he dictates his entire life to climbing the social ladder in order to gain
wealth, to ultimately win the love of a woman: something that proves to be unattainable. As it turns
out, Gatsby¡¦s excessive extravagance and love of money, mixed with his obsession for a woman¡¦s
love, is actually the autobiographical portrayal of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although heartbroken at the time, Fitzgerald answered Yeats¡¦ crucial question–– ¡§Does the
imagination dwell the most / Upon a woman lost or a woman won?¡¨ –– by using his lost love as
imaginative inspiration. For in his 1925 masterpiece, The Great Gatsby, he recreated the elusive,
unattainable Ginevra as the beautiful and elegant Daisy Fay Buchanan.
Throughout the novel, Fitzgerald described Daisy as an almost disembodied voice which, Gatsby
realized at the end, was ¡§full of money.¡¨ Fitzgerald wrote, ¡§her face was sad and lovely with
bright things in it, bright eyes and a bright passionate mouth, but there was an excitement in her
voice that men who had cared for her found difficult to forget¡¨ (Fitzgerald, 14). It should be noted
that, ¡§Gatsby¡¦s ability, like Fitzgerald¡¦s, ¡¥to keep that illusion perfect¡¦ sustains his self–deceptive
and ultimately self–destructive quest, with the help of his own fabulous money, to win Daisy back
from her husband¡¨ (Meyers, 30).
Although Ginevra King was Fitzgerald¡¦s first true love, she certainly was not his last. In July 1918,
while stationed in Montgomery, Alabama with the military, Scott met a gracious, soft–voiced girl
named Zelda Sayre at a country club dance. Scott recalled that night that, ¡§she let her long hair
hang down loose and wore a frilly dress that made her look younger than eighteen. She came from a
prominent though not wealthy family and had just graduated

2. What environmental and behavioral factors led to Joseph's dehydration?
Joseph's dehydration was caused by many events. Joseph had to play a variety of positions for a
duration of three hours. The best drink to drink when dehydrated is water, because energy drinks can
disrupt your bodies normal functions, and cause you to be even more dehydrated! His body was
working hard and he didn't have the opportunity to properly rehydrate, which is very crucial.

Due to the lack of sodium in Joseph's body caused by dehydration, End plate potential (when the

an imbalance since both gates wouldn't open at the same time. This imbalance is responsible for the

list was to find Clary and apologize for us getting into a car crash. That's if she's even alive, said that
ever present pessimistic voice inside my head. But I refused to think about that, the only thing that
was keeping me from breaking down and sobbing was the hope of seeing my best friend. I got off of
my mind tangent and tried to stay focused. After apologizing to Clary, I would have to apologize to
Katherine; I had crashed her new car. Back on track, step one finding Clary. I slowly turned my head
to the side to see if any doctors or nurses were in my viewing range

Contract Law Essay
Contract Law
1.On 2nd January 1999, Sarah reads in a local newspaper, "The BrightonBugle", that a well known
local sports enthusiast, Mick Muscle, was offering £5,000 to the first person to swim from Southsea
to the Isle of Wightbefore 10th January, 1999. Sarah, a keen swimmer, set about her preparations.
On 6th January, 1999, a retraction appeared in "The Hove Herald' stating that Mick's original offer
was cancelled and, instead, the prize was now to be £500 to the first person to cycle from Brighton
to Oxford before 12th January, 1999. Sarah was a regular reader of "The BrightonBugle" and no
other newspaper. She did not see the retraction in "The HoveHerald".

On appeal, the advertisement was held to be an 'invitation to treat', since it was necessary to protect
the advertiser from liability in Contract should demand for the advertised goods exceed supply.[3]
As a result, the appellant's criminal conviction was quashed.
In contrast, advertisements may sometimes be construed as being an offer if they are of the
unilateral type, where one party promises something in return for the specified act of another. The
general rule in Contract Law is that acceptance must be communicated to the offeror, but in
unilateral offers, performance of the specified act constitutes acceptance [4]. In Carlill v Carbolic
Smoke Ball Co.[5], the defendants advertised that they would pay £100 to anyone who contracted
influenza after using their smoke ball for a specified period, and that £1000 had been deposited in a
bank as proof of their sincerity. Mrs Carlill bought and used the smokeballl in accordance with the
manufacturer's instructions but then contracted influenza, so claimed her reward. The defendants

Speedo Innovation
Speedo innovation: Swimwear companies have invested millions designing high–performance suits
for the upcoming Beijing Olympics. Can design help swimmers finish faster? Following the 2004
Athens Olympics, officials at swimwear giant Speedo had good reason to celebrate: Athletes clad in
their latest suits at the time, called Fastskin FSII, won 46 medals in the pool. Yet when the
company's in–house design team, Aqualab, gathered soon after the games at company headquarters
in Nottingham, Britain, they were already focused on how to innovate the next generation. "We
looked at all the suits and the competition and what was good and bad," recalls Jason Rance,
worldwide head of Aqualab. Four years later, after a multimillion–dollar research ... Show more

Australia in 1928, Speedo is the world's top–selling swimwear brand. The brand's history of
innovation began that year, as Speedo introduced the Racerback suit – the world's first non–wool
suit allowing greater freedom of motion. Soon after, Swedish swimmer Arne Borg set a world record
in Speedo swimwear, establishing the brand in the hearts and minds of swimmers and the general
public. From the first racerback in the 1920's, Speedo has been behind many of the major
innovations in swimwear. In the 1950's the brand created its first watershort and launched it's first–
ever suit made of Nylon. In the 1970's, Speedo became the first company to produce swimwear
made of Nylon / Elastane. Speedo introduced Endurance, the world's first chlorine resistant fabric,
in 1994. In 2000, Speedo launched the revolutionary Fastskin® swimsuit inspired by shark's skin. In
2008, Speedo launched the LZR Racer®, in which the world's best swimmers – led by Michael
Phelps – rewrote the record books. Today, Speedo's new LZR Racer Elite line of suits is being worn
by Phelps and fellow Team Speedo stars Natalie Coughlin, Ryan Lochte and Katie Hoff. Speedo's
rich Olympic history dates back to 1932 when Claire Dennis of Australia won gold in Speedo at the
Los Angeles Olympic Games. In 1956 at the Melbourne Olympic Games, Speedo

The American Of The Mexican Restaurant
The two males from Scotland sat soaking up the local atmosphere in the busy Mexican restaurant.
They'd heard this place served excellent Mexican food. Mexican food which they'd recently been
introduced to by Aileana. Aileana, a young Southern California woman who moved to Scotland and
happened to be dating one of the men's brother. The two large, heavy muscled men enjoyed a lazy
Sunday afternoon throwing back a few beers at the Sagebrush Cantina. The Cantina a local watering
hole in the West San Fernando Valley, well known with the biker crowd, along with all the up and
comers. They fell into the first group; not the second, bikes in general and Harley's in particular. The
larger of the two men was Duncan Morgan he stood at six feet four inches of unadulterated solid
muscle, weighing in around two hundred and twenty pounds or so. He also stood out in any crowd
because of the black ink which traveled up his left arm. The tattoo continued all the way across his
back and chest on the left side of his sculpted body on top of all his body piercings. He appeared as
if he was a jacked gym junkie, however, nothing could be further from the truth. The muscles on his
tall frame were from hard work on the oil rig. His build was also genetic specific to Selkie's; which
he and Torin just happened to be. The men appreciated the warm Southern California weather on the
bar's lively outdoor patio; they watched all the fine young ladies strut their stuff. Duncan Morgan

Gender Stereotypes In The Media Analysis
From an early age, we are presented with images from all sources that attempt to define what is
gender appropriate. The media reinforces those stereotypes by the use of colors, pictures, and even
fonts in published advertising. This paper will review a selection of images from websites and recent
magazine displays to document the current trends and gender stereotypes promoted in the world of
media today.
In order to define the material available in the internet, two searches where performed using Good
Images. The terms "women's conference" and "men conferences" were searched and the most
prominent results have been analyzed. The images returned are in the appendix of this paper. There

Hell-Personal Narrative

  • 1. Hell-Personal Narrative I was done, I needed out, and I needed out now. There was plenty of time before college started and I was in need of this thrill before 4 years of hell settled upon me. I stuffed my bag with clothes, small items I would need, and my wallet. "They thought they were in charge. Huh." Barely whispering as I smirked. "Not any more boys, not anymore." I opened the bedroom door and shuffled down the hall, it kept the floor from squeaking. I grabbed my car keys and hiking boots and headed out the door. Days prior I had bought things that were needed for this trip and kept them in the shed. I went to REI and ended up running into my mother's friend, that scared me. Last night while my brother was out I filled up his car with everything I would need. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I went back into the shop and ordered the same thing, but to go. I got back in my car and thought about all the hikes my family and I took a while back. My mind wandered to my parents, now working internationally. They only came home for a weekend every other month. It was up to my brothers to watch me this summer, to keep me entertained in Newton while all my friends went down to the Cape and the Islands while I had to suck it up and be here. "Good thing I left. Shows em a thing or two about how much the boys got freedom compared to me." I announced in my car. The caffeine had finally kicked in. I decided that if Jane wanted a ride she would have known where to find me. I went back to my hotel, went on another run and completely lost track of time. The ocean does that to me sometimes. Arriving back at my tent I packed up. I felt like I had made a friend yesterday, only to realize, I was on this trip alone. The beginning of road trip was a realization of what happens in life if someone walks into your life, looks like they could comfort you or be your friend for a while but in the end their or you are going to get up, quietly change plans, and move on hoping that the adventure or in my case road trip will be better. P.S. It will get better. I went on to see some of the most beautiful places in the country alone, and Park Rangers know how to party. Fuck the tourists and weird ass ... • 3. Why Do We Need Assistance In The Intouchables There are many films that focus individuals who need assistance in daily living activities. From these films we can gain lots of information regarding types of conditions, the supports they need, and how a care professional and/or human service provider can help. The movie The Intouchables is based on the journey Abdel Sellou and Philippe Borgo travelled together. It reflects on the compassionate care required in assisting others, and takes a look at the challenges a paraplegic individual encounters. Philippe needs assistance in any activity that would require movement and Abdel, played as Driss, is randomly selected to be the caregiver providing the assistance. Throughout the film there are emotional challenges, along with the physical; we get to see how the care providers can deal with these. Film Summary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to receive the benefit he must provide proof that he had been looking for work and was refused, so he interrupts an interviewing process at Phillippe's and demands a signature. Philippe is a quadriplegic, looking for a new live in caregivers. Driss comes off rude and disrespectful, cutting inappropriate jokes toward the quadriplegic man, and sending inappropriate gestures toward Philippe's assistant Magalie. My parents, Tommy Freeman (July 2th, 1964) and Nikol Freeman (June 14st, 1969) were both from Naples, Italy. My father was a Coast Guard in L.A, and my mother a bar tender. We weren't a poor family, but we weren't a rich family. My father made sure I was sent to school early, and ensure that I did well at school. My mother always used to tell me that "One day Henry, I know you'll make me rich". On December, 12th, 1996 my brother, Pablo Freeman was born. After that, I lost my father–son relationship with my father, as I always felt that he loved my brother more than me, even naming my brother after himself. • 7. I Am Born On The World Introduction: Steveland (Stevie) Hardaway Judkins was born on the 13th of May, 1950 in Saginaw Michigan (Bio, 2015). Due to being born six weeks premature, Stevie was placed in an incubator to help maintain his breathing (Bio, 2015 & Stevie Wonder, 2011). The forced oxygen caused the retinas in the back of his eyes to become unattached, leaving Stevie permanently blind (Bio, 2015). This happened due to the growth of blood vessels in the back of the eyes not fully developing correctly (Wikipedia, 2015). Even though Stevie was left with no vision he began playing the harmonica at age 4, learnt to play piano at age 6 and took up drum lessons when he was 8 years old (Bio, 2011). In 1961, Stevie had the opportunity to sing to Ronnie White ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Apart from being involved in many helpful campaigns and events, Stevie's music and lyrics inspired musicians everywhere. Jackson 5, Prince, Lionel Richie and D'Angelo all believed that Stevie Wonder had a massive impact on music and song writing (Shmoop, 2015). Musicians such as the Miracles, Ray Charles and Johnny Ace all influenced Stevie to pursue a career in the music industry (Shmoop, 2015). Even though he is blind, he has not let that stop him from doing what he wants to do. Stevie once said "Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes doesn't mean he lacks vision" (Brainy Quote, 2015). Development: The Tamla label offered Stevie a five year contract but made it clear that all his money would be kept in a trust fund until he was at least 21 years old (Wikipedia, 2015). In 1962, Stevie released his first album 'The Jazz Soul of Little Stevie'. He then released his first recorded album, 'Tribute to Uncle Ray in October, the same year (Wikipedia, 2015). When Stevie was just 12 years old he toured America through the 'chitlin circuit' theatres (Wikipedia, 2015). In May 1963, his performance at the Regal Theatre in Chicago was recorded and formed into a live album, 'The 12 Year Old Genius' (Wikipedia, 2015). A few months later, when Stevie was 13, his first number 1 hit single appeared on the Billboard 100 chart (Wikipedia, 2015). • 9. My Best Friend Essay I always remember her as my best friend. The girl that would run through the woods with me, whether the day was scorching hot or the ground was frozen under our feet. Building forts with the dried sticks of juniper trees, or hiking around on the 9+ acres of my family land. I can remember how the grass would blow in the middle of a hot day and make the golden grass blow around. The way it would make the grass bow over, and the rustling of the leaves and the way they sounded as they rubbed together. We would do everything with each other. She was the brunet that ever blond friend wishes they had. Her, her brothers and I would spend hours on top of hours outside, or finding some river to swim in. Driving for hours, we would make our way up the Texas coast ever summer. Some of my best memories from when I was a child were made there with my best friend. They will forever be stuck in my brain like cobwebs to a corner of a house that just doesn't seem to want to go away. The feeling of the hot sand under my feet and diving under the waves with my best friend was all I could ever want in this world. There held by the crisp water, listening to the way the water hit the shore made for the perfect summers, and I never wanted anything else. We did absolutely everything together. • 13. The Invasion of Normandy Introduction The invasion of Normandy, also known as Operation Overlord or D–Day, was perhaps one of the most important battles in the human history. The invasion took place on June 4, 1944, at the Coast of Normandy in France. Troops from over twelve countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America participated in the fight against Germany. Although the battles were enduring and hard–fought, the Allies achieved the final victory; the Allies were finally able to set their feet on the European soil again. The Allied invasion of Normandy was a major turning point of the war that led to the ultimate liberation of Europe from the Nazi forces. An Overview of the Invasion Preparations Ever since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With a strong backup, the Allied troops were able to advance through the enemy–occupied countries with lightening speed. Therefore, the attack not only led to the French people's freedom, but also to the quick downfall of Nazi Germany. (Naval History and Heritage– D–Day, the Normandy Invasion, 6 – 25 June 1944) Relief of Soviet's pressure Other than causing the liberation of France and the establishment of a new battlefront, the invasion also relieved the Soviet Union's pressure. Before the Invasion, Germany had over two million troops fighting against the Red Army in the Eastern Front, and many of Soviet's cities were captured. The Russians fought desperately to protect their cities. However, after the invasion, with the launch of a new major battlefront in the West, Hitler had to transport many of his forces to the West in order to defend his own country. Without as many troops to fight against, the Soviet army was able to push through Czechoslovakia, Poland and eventually penetrate into Germany; the Soviet Union's progress greatly sped up the endof the war. (Naval History and Heritage– D–Day, the Normandy Invasion, 6 – 25 June 1944) Significance of the Invasion on smaller scales On much smaller scales, the Battle of Normandy was also quite important. Meanwhile, Huntington Beach (Calif.)–based TYR, a unit of Swimwear Anywhere, launched the Tracer Light and Tracer Rise as their Olympic hopefuls. At TYR, the development of new suits centered on creating a lighter–weight fabric that doesn 't leak or take on water, using a woven rather than a knitted fabric, after TYR 's researchers found that knitted fabrics drop moisture between fibers. A polyurethane coating was added to create a smoother surface, and compression panels reduce muscle undulation. One difference with Speedo 's LZR is that TYR 's new model–which will retail for between $80 and $350–has stayed with stitched seams. The advantage of stitching, argues Jeremy Tongish, TYR 's merchandising director, is that it holds the fabric around the compression panels more effectively, which means a firmer grip on the muscles and therefore greater energy return. "If [athletes] squeeze themselves into a tighter suit with bonded seams, it exerts a lot of force on the fabric," he says, implying that sewn suits will be longer–lasting and tighter–fitting. ... • 19. Summary Of The Poem Of America By William Whitman It is in this sense that Whitman, always the egalitarian, who said of America and its people that 'This is the city and I am one of its citizens' (NAofAl, p.1347), posits the totality of American society as being involved in the active composition of the Poem of America. Indeed, in the Preface to Leaves of Grass, Whitman encourages his readers to 'plunge [their] semitic muscle' (NAofAL, p.1309) into America in an act of national pro–creation! All facets of society must involve themselves in seeking out their truths and experiences to contribute to this poem, and so Whitman asserts that 'You are also asking my questions...,/I answer that I cannot answer, you must find out for yourself' (NAofAL, p.1352). America is a new space for individuals and groups alike to forge their own lives, free from the burdensome shackles of the Old World. In presenting America as a fundamentally new space for the development of what William Carlos Williams described as 'a rebel viewpoint, an American viewpoint' , it becomes clear that Whitman's song is one of projection. That is, in accordance with Whitman's view of the poet as 'the true son of God' and one who 'incarnates [America's] geography and natural life and rivers and lakes' (NAofAL, p.1299), comes to order reality by way of his language: with every line that he writes, the poet projects a world of order, meaning, and identity into a space that was lacking up until the moment of projection – a particularly American Genesis. The point of view shot works really well with the music, as we do not yet know what is in the water. The director keeps us, the viewers; unaware of what is actually the culprit of these revolting attack. As the film progresses we learn to associate the music with an imminent shark attack. The next attack is that of a little boy Alex kintner. There are people playing on the beach and in the water. Brody (the police chief) is sitting tentatively, watching things intently. He hears screams from a young girl, but of course they are playful screams. Then we see a man playing fetch the stick with his dog. We also see a rather large lady go into the water, and finally we meet Alex Kintner. These are all very likely suspects of the next shark attack. Alex Kintner goes out on his lilo into the water. Then we get a point of view shot from under the water, but no music. The shark is not yet there. Something is approaching but we are not sure if we are being teased or not. The sun was shining inexplicably, as if it knew what was coming, the sky was clear with one cloud across the horizon, the sand was boiling and I could literally feel the bottom of my foot melting away. The air was scented with the sweetness of spring and refreshed by gentle breezes. There are families everywhere I look, playing endlessly with their kids, throwing beach balls around, tanning their bodies until it turns to ebony, walking their precious dogs, and riding their bicycles until their muscles deteriorated. Through all of the obstacles that the world has put her way, and all the situations life has brought her, Amanda still knows that all the decisions she took may not have been the best. However, she learned from her mistakes to make better judgements. "I regret things that I didn't do in my life more than things that I have done. The things that I have done in my life that I should regret are the things I learned from, which at the end of it all, are what make me stronger. Without these mistakes I would have never learned, and I would have never been mature enough to take care of my beautiful kids. So for me, I try not to regret anything that I've done. Surfing taught me that you must fall before you can stand. That you will struggle before you succeed. When most girls turn sixteen years old, they want a big party, with presents, loud music, loads of friends, and just overall craziness. At least that's how I always imagined it. I didn't want any of that. I didn't want the presents or the music or anything close to a party. When I turned sixteen, I wanted to go to Hawaii. Although the whole trip was very memorable for me and my entire family, the day that sticks out the most is the day I learned how to surf. The bright blue skin guard was baggy on my average framed body. I wiggled my toes in the damp water shoes wishing that I could stay barefoot and wiggle them in the soft white sand. The instructor, Joseph, was teaching my dad, Daniel–a man we had met that day while getting ready for our lesson–and me how to surf the waves of Oahu. Joseph handed me a long board with a beautiful blue hibiscus on the back of the board. The three of us sat in the warm sand listening to Joseph explain how to get into proper form when catching a wave. Although words were coming out of his mouth, I was captivated by the water and ignoring the lesson which is probably important. The bushtail possums were introduced to New Zealand in 1837 for the fur trade by Australia. This poison is commonly used in New Zealand to target the control of the possum population as well as other invasive rodents, as these pest eat vulnerable native animals such as, birds, lizards and insects, but this poison is highly toxic for deer, and dogs. Minimizing the number of possums mean that the agriculture and forestry to will be able to thrive more. Our librarian, Mrs. Cash, would read us Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Kids, one of my favorite series of books as I was growing up, and would read it very slow to us so we could understand and showed us all of the pretty pictures. After she read to us, we were each allowed to pick out a book and go to the little tables and attempt to read it. I can remember hearing each student sounding words out and laughing at the pictures and it was a genuinely fun experience. Throughout elementary school, going to the library was one of the most fun things to do. I loved when we would have little competitions to see who could read the most books and receive the most Accelerated Reader (AR) points. Most of the time, the one who had the most points every six weeks, in each grade level (Pre–Kindergarten–5th), would receive a pizza and popcorn party which was always a pleasurable way to reward us. Overall, my elementary experience was highly fascinating. Once I got into junior high, things got a little more momentous. All of the teachers started talking to us about college and how we needed to start getting serious about school and decide what we want to do with our life in the future. From English class to art class, we would read all day. We'd have books, lectures, instructions, descriptions, prompts, and rules to read. I figured that's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows how class expectations are prevalent in the 20's through figurative language, imagery, details, diction, and syntax found in the book. Fitzgerald uses figurative language to give emphasis on the extravagant lifestyles of the rich in The Great Gatsby. ¨My own house was an eyesore, but it was a small eyesore, and it had been overlooked, so I had a view of the water, a partial view of my neighbor's lawn, and the consoling proximity of millionaires –all for eighty dollars a month" (Fitzgerald 5). This quote gives an insight to the lifestyle the rich enjoyed in the 20's which is a contrast of what the poor were doing in this time period. The poor in this time period were cramped in houses and were overworked in factories. This displays class expectations because it showed that the rich were extravagant. Fitzgerald uses of imagery give the reader a visual to use when describing the lush reality of the characters. Down south there is an odd combination of Hollywood stars that own ten million dollar houses, while at the same time, only 80 miles south lies an area with a large Hispanic influence. Imagine multiple cultures encapsulated within a one and a half mile long pier. The road can be traveled with a 30–minute walk, a 20–minute bike ride, 15 minutes on roller blades, or a two– minute cruise in your convertible. Across the street lies a neon sign displaying "Tattoo Parlor" right next to a tanning salon. (Ironic considering the 75–degree weather all year round.) Lastly and definitely not least is the Canali Café, (No, I did not misspell cannoli.) which resides just off the Ocean Front Walk on Washington Blvd. Then my brother and I hastily crossed the steet on our bicycles to avoid the oncoming traffic and continued to the next block. A large fancy white building, which did not appear to belong with the neighboring shady shack on the street, emerges from the haze. The scene looked like a set for "Hair" on Broadway, as 10 college women were dancing to Bob Marley's music raising multiple signs that said, " Welcome to The Kush Shop, the doctor is in today". Once my eleven–year–old brother (He is not very coordinated.) saw this scene, he immediately lost control of the bike and fell onto the sand alongside the bike path. I asked him what had happened. He responded, " I was looking at The Kush Shop and I lost my focus. What is Kush anyway?" In a sudden state of shock I replied, "I'm not sure, I think the sell souvenirs". • 59. Essay about Symbolism in Lord of the Flies Symbolism in Lord of the Flies The story, Lord of the Flies, has many interesting symbols relating adult society to kids surviving on an island. Many of the characters and items in this novel such as Jack or the conch can be interpreted on a macroscopic scale but the most important being this; a microcosm of children on an island makes a great symbolic message about human nature, society and how grown–ups live and govern – and how they cannot. Throughout the story the little ones didn't do much but in the beginning they did vote Ralph in and basically brought him into power. Because the people elected Ralph, he therefore is a true democratic ruler. He passes the conch symbolizing order around, lets others talk, follows rules and does not intend to break them himself. There's trouble enforcing the laws just like our democracies, today. However, we are still free–living citizens, much like the kids under Ralph's reign. Jack and Roger are the complete opposite. Jack represents the savagery and hate in all of us. Starting out as a choirboy, he slowly evolves into the hunting "Chief" of the opposition party. Methods used by Hitler were also used by Jack. Total control such as binding and strapping Wilfred and propaganda like using the beast to inspire fear and presenting himself as the only protection is used in his dictatorial rule. He overthrows Ralph with fun, and then proceeds to use muscle once he had friends like Roger. Roger is his right hand man but is even worse. He starts out throwing rocks, moves on to torturing pigs and in the end he intentionally kills Piggy. He was a terror while torturing with Sam n' Eric and the executioner when he killed Piggy. He is what Jack uses to rule, much like Hitler's personal guard and is even more extreme and totalitarian than Jack. Jack and Roger's rise to power mirror real ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. An Autobiographical Portrayal of F. Scott Fitzgerald as... Frances Scott Key Fitzgerald, born September 24, 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota, is seen today as one of the true great American novelists. Although he lived a life filled with alcoholism, despair, and lost–love, he managed to create the ultimate love story and seemed to pinpoint the ¡§American Dream¡¨ in his classic novel, The Great Gatsby. In the novel, Jay Gatsby is the epitome of the ¡§self–made man,¡¨ in which he dictates his entire life to climbing the social ladder in order to gain wealth, to ultimately win the love of a woman: something that proves to be unattainable. As it turns out, Gatsby¡¦s excessive extravagance and love of money, mixed with his obsession for a woman¡¦s love, is actually the autobiographical portrayal of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although heartbroken at the time, Fitzgerald answered Yeats¡¦ crucial question–– ¡§Does the imagination dwell the most / Upon a woman lost or a woman won?¡¨ –– by using his lost love as imaginative inspiration. For in his 1925 masterpiece, The Great Gatsby, he recreated the elusive, unattainable Ginevra as the beautiful and elegant Daisy Fay Buchanan. Throughout the novel, Fitzgerald described Daisy as an almost disembodied voice which, Gatsby realized at the end, was ¡§full of money.¡¨ Fitzgerald wrote, ¡§her face was sad and lovely with bright things in it, bright eyes and a bright passionate mouth, but there was an excitement in her voice that men who had cared for her found difficult to forget¡¨ (Fitzgerald, 14). It should be noted that, ¡§Gatsby¡¦s ability, like Fitzgerald¡¦s, ¡¥to keep that illusion perfect¡¦ sustains his self–deceptive and ultimately self–destructive quest, with the help of his own fabulous money, to win Daisy back from her husband¡¨ (Meyers, 30). Although Ginevra King was Fitzgerald¡¦s first true love, she certainly was not his last. In July 1918, while stationed in Montgomery, Alabama with the military, Scott met a gracious, soft–voiced girl named Zelda Sayre at a country club dance. Scott recalled that night that, ¡§she let her long hair hang down loose and wore a frilly dress that made her look younger than eighteen.
