Genesis Creation
The book of Genesis starts with God creating the heavens and the earth. He later creates man, Adam,
in His own image. Out of man He creates woman, Eve, and He blesses them. They live in the
Garden of Eden and are commanded to work and keep the grounds. However, Satan came in and
tempted them into sinning by eating the forbidden fruit. They are cast out of the garden, and God
promises that a man will come from His offspring to reconcile humanity back to God.
Adam's lineage continued and man becomes more evil and God could not endure watching man's
wickedness. Therefore, God planned to flood the whole world and make all things new again. This
led Him to anointing Noah to build an ark to save humanity and animals from extinction. The flood

God also reminded Abraham of the promise He made back in the garden where a king shall come
from his line and Abraham forms a covenant with God that all males in his line shall be circumcised.
God keeps His promise and gives Abraham a son, Isaac and his son, Jacob; he was the younger
brother but got the blessing because he deceived his father. Years pass and Jacob wrestled with God
and demanded that He bless him and the Lord blessed him by fulfilling his promise to Abraham. The
Lord changed Jacob's name to Israel and from Israel came twelve sons which later are the twelve
tribes of Israel. Joseph, the youngest son, Jacob favors him and gives him a colorful coat and his
brothers become jealous and plan to kill Joseph. They end up selling him into slavery and the
traveler took Joseph to Egypt and was sold to Potiphar. As time passed he gained favor in the
Pharaoh's eyes. However, the Pharaoh's wife took notice of Jacob and she wanted him to sleep with
her. When Jacob denied, she made up a story to throw him in jail. While in jail he gained favor with
the prisoners by interpreting dreams. Pharaoh heard about it and made Joseph second in command in
Egypt when he predicted a devastating famine. Famine came to the land and he saves all of Egypt
and his family. When his family came to Egypt and realized it was Joseph second in command,

Chapters Of Genesis
The first two chapters of Genesis explain the chronicle events of the creation story. While there are
yet, two accounts of the creation events within Genesis one and two, there is no contradiction. It
proclaims a detail account of how God, the Source of creation, created everything. Genesis gives us
our first glimpse into the characteristics and attributes of God, humankind and creation itself. When
studying the first two chapters of Genesis we find several characteristics of God. The two
characteristic I want to explore is: God as Creator & God of order. The events of creation story how
God and God alone created of everything. Everything that God created was "good". Another
attribute of God is that He is a God of order. God systematically and sequentially created everything
in it proper time and place. He created the heavens and earth before creating before making light. He
also created the waters before He created the fish of the seas. He created everything that humankind
would need before making humankind in His Image. God is a God of creation and order. Genesis
also taught us about humankind. Humankind was created to be a relational being and to be a
steward. God created humankind to be in relation with God and with each other. God ... Show more

As a way of God remaining a just God, he allowed an alternative to the Genesis account of
creations. There are several contrasts between the two creation accounts. Some the fundamental
differences are: order versus chaos, God who controlled emotions versus the emotions that control
God's, a covenant relation versus cunning and planning relation, man's dominion versus man's
inhabitants. These differences are significant because of the direct contrast between the natures of
both sets of God's. The Babylonian of the creation story is in line with the beliefs of Idol god verse a

Genesis : The Beliefs Of Abraham And Genesis
In Genesis chapter twenty two, verses one through nineteen, God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. As
Abraham obeyed, the Lord sent an angel who provided a ram instead and blessed Abraham by
reiterating the promises. In Genesis chapter eighteen, verses sixteen through thirty three, Abraham
pleaded to God not to kill the people of Sodom. Then Abraham bargained with God about how
many good people could save the city, saying there could be at least ten good people. Abraham
responds to God in two different ways in these chapters, one he argues with God and the other he
shows God respect by doing what he says. In both of these chapters, there is a combination of
sources that visit Abraham to help him follow his faith in God. Genesis chapter eighteen comes from
the J sources, which is Yahwist, it is described that God has humanlike characteristics. Yahwist is
believed to be composed in southern kingdom, Judah and is favorable view of kingship (BBS). The
Lord appeared to Abraham as three people that looked humanlike, so much that Abraham wasn't
sure if it was the Lord. These three men looked towards Sodom and told Abraham the plan to kill off
the evil form Sodom. Abraham then convinces God to look for fifty good people then got him down
to ten and God took the plea. This debate over the killing of the town shows the great moral virtue of
Abraham and affirms Gods choice of him as Israel's patriarch (HCSB). This source is also shown
when God promises Abraham "I will make of you a

Disobedience In Genesis
Genesis is the first book of the Old Testament. Genesis was written by Moses to the people of Israel
in 1450–1410 B.C. The purpose of Genesis is to display God's creation of the world and his desire to
have people set apart to worship him. Genesis sets the stage for the entire bible. Genesis has six key
themes of focus. First, is the beginning where Genesis explains the beginning of the world, human
history, family, civilization and salvation. Disobedience being the second theme and Genesis teaches
why men are evil. Disobedience occurs when people chose not to follow God's plan of living. Then
this leads to the third theme which is sin that destroys people's lives. Forth, is the promises God
makes to help and protect us. Fifth, is obedience

The Value of Genesis
Copious amounts of teenagers today have a habit of questioning books that are too 'old' or 'stuffy' to
apply to their everyday lives. Some of them may find correlations to works by William Shakespeare
or Jane Austen, but what about the other books, such as those from the Bible? Usually regarded as
too religious to have any connection to life, teens ignore these texts in favor of ones that they feel
can integrate into their lives with much more ease– even though some books in the Bible can
actually connect more to life than some of these other 'relative' works. Take, for example, the book
of Genesis. Although written and published thousands of years ago, the stories, themes, and
modern–day allusions contained within it can still apply to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This takes many ideas and themes from the stories contained in Genesis– mostly dealing with the
first few chapters– and applies them to modern and ancient theories alike. Beyond that, one of the
most recognizable allusions to Genesis would be that of C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia
series. In fact, all of the books in this series not only allude to Genesis, but to the entire Bible. Many,
many references and parallels can be drawn between Genesis and The Chronicles of Narnia– for
example, Aslan can be considered the 'God' of Narnia, as the Narnians refer to him as the creator of
the world. In addition, the White Witch portrays his opposite– the 'devil'– as she tries to tempt the
Pevensie children several times throughout the series (also a reference to the temptation of Adam
and Eve). Humans are also referred to as "Son[s] of Adam" (Lewis, 39) and "Daughter[s] of Eve"
(Lewis, 15), another reference to Genesis. Furthermore, many poems allude to Adam and Eve, like
Robert Frost's Never Again Would the Bird's Song Be The Same, which mentions Eve in the line,
"From having heard the daylong voice of Eve" (Frost, line 3). Anthony Hecht's Naming the Animals
offers the apparent descriptions of Adam naming all of the animals that God gave him domain over.
Beyond just Adam and Eve, Jacob Russell's poem How Jacob Loved centers around Jacob, Leah,
and Rachel. Even if you

The Book Of Genesis
GENESIS The book of Genesis chronicles the creation of the world the universe and the earth. It
reveals the plan within God's heart to have a people of his very own, set apart to worship. God, that's
where Genesis begin, all at once we see God creating the world in a majestic display of Power and
purpose culminating with a man and women made like himself (1:26–27) Genesis sets the stage for
the entire Bible it reveals the purpose and nature of God (Creator, Sustainer, Judge, Redeemer and
the value an dignity of human beings. To most known as the Book of Beginnings, The word Genesis
means beginning or origin. Genesis records the beginning of all things. It began the human culture.
It began the scheme of redemption. Genesis is a book of foundation. It is the foundation of the Old
Testament and is the foundation of the whole Bible. If Genesis were removed from the Bible, none
of the rest of the Bible would make sense. The author of the book of Genesis was Moses

There is just too much information on this great book. Genesis explains the beginning of many very
important realities. The universe, earth, people, sin, and Gods plan of salvation. The book of Genesis
teaches us that the earth is well made and good. Humanity is special to God and unique made in his
image. God is the creator and sustainer of all life that exist on this earth. In this great book of
beginnings, disobedience is a great lesson learned for all because set the stage immediately to let us
know that there would be rules and man would have a choice to either obey the commands or there
would be consequences. Man today have choices we are not made to do anything by God he doesn't
come down and handcuff us to make us do anything. Disobedience occurs when we choose not to
follow God's plan of living. Genesis explains why men are evil, they choose to do wrong. Even
great Bible heroes failed to obey

Genesis 2 Vs Genesis 2
In Genesis 1, the chapter describes how the heavens and earth are created. The earth preexisted. In
Genesis 1:2, "The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And
the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters." God formed the light and brought
positivity to the dark world. In Genesis 2, the chapter describes the creation of man and woman. The
Lord created the Garden of Eden and made the man. At the end of the chapter of Genesis 2, a
woman was created out of man's rib.
The similarities of both chapters were the creations. God created sky, man, woman, animals,
vegetables, and birds. The two creation stories do not have many similarities. I believe each creation
opposed one another. The additions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They instantly did what he was told or even volunteered. Both prophets Jeremiah and Moses were
not confident when they were chose. They mentioned to God how they lacked the ability to speak.
Moses was the prophet who angered God because of all his questions and lack of confidence. He
simply did not want to do God's calling. In the end, both prophecies fulfilled God's plan.
Describe the reign of King David in full sentences. Why do you think he represents the "ideal king"
for Israel?
The reign of King David is very well known throughout history. David was born in 907 BCE. He
reigned as king for 40 years. David reigned seven years in Hebron and thirty three years in
Jerusalem. His son was Solomon, who reigned after his father. David died at age 70 and was buried
in Mount Zion. Initially, David did not seek for kingship, but was appointed by the Israelites. King
David's first action was when he marched into Jerusalem with the Israelites. Following the conquer,
he made the city into his capital. King David moved the Ark to Jerusalem with intentions to build a
temple. However, it was rejected by God because King David's hands were full of blood. His son
Solomon was appointed to build the temple. King David united the twelve tribes of Israel. He
succeeded in war with the help of God and all his

Creation In Genesis And Genesis
How the world people are living in right now was created in the beginning? Humankind has been
asking this question throughout the centuries, and some people throw some answers to this question.
People in Israel answer that God created the heaven and earth in the beginning while Babylonians
answer that Marduk establishes the natural order and dwelling for gods after win a battle. The reason
that these two ethnic groups respond differently is because they have been walked through different
history and worldview. Enuma Elish, which is the Babylonian creation epic, and the book of Genesis
in the Bible, what Israelites believe, shows little similar sense but totally different idea of creation.
From the first part of each writing, book of Genesis and Enuma Elish, the similarity and difference
can be found. In the beginning, the world in both Genesis and Enuma Elish does not have shape.
There is nothing but just emptiness before creation in Genesis: "In the beginning God created the
heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the
deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters" (New International Version 1:1–2).
Enuma Elish also does not have things to be called but just gods are existed: "When on high no
name was given to heaven / Nor below was the netherworld called by name, / Primeval Apsu was
their progenitor. / And matrix–Tiamat was she who bore them all, / They were mingling their waters
together, / No canebrake was intertwined nor thicket matted close. / When no gods at all had been
brought forth, Nor called by names, non destinies ordained" (Enuma Elish Tablet 1 1–8).
Furthermore, both God and gods are staying in the water in the beginning of the creation. It is
interesting that the water is mentioned in both writings. However, although there are some
similarities in both, there is a radical difference inherent between both stories. Genesis is written and
fiducially focusing on the one and only God that no other god is mentioned. It simply says God
creates the world. In contrast, Enuma Elish mentions two names Apsu and Tiamat and explains that
they are the parents of other gods. Two books are divided into two different ideas of monotheism

Comparing Genesis And The Genesis Of The Gilgamesh And...
Comparing The Gilgamesh and Genesis There is a collection of evidence to prove and explain how
the Israelite people might have known or heard some Babylonian myths. This evidence is shown
through similarities in the Genesis creation myths and many Babylonian myths. As an example,
there are many similarities shown throughout the Gilgamesh story that relates to the Noah story in
Genesis. Some similarities include the heroes character, the order to build a boat, the number of
animals, the means of the flood, and the action of sacrificing after the flood. These are only a few of
the many similarities interpreted in these stories. The first similarity is that the character of the
heroes in both the Gilgamesh story as well as the Genesis/Noah story. In both stories, the heroes
character is righteous. For example, in Noah's Ark, it states that "a righteous man" (Genesis 6:9) was
directed to build an ark to save a limited and select group of people and all species of animals. Noah
received these orders directly from God. On the other hand, Utnapishtim received his order from a
dream. Accordingly, both heroes were ordered to build a boat. In the Gilgamesh, Utnapishtim is
clearly instructed to build a boat and leave all wealth behind. "O man of Shuruppak, son of
Ubartutu: Tear down the house and build a boat! Abandon wealth and seek living beings!"
(Gilgamesh 23–25). In comparison, at the beginning of the Noah flood story, Noah is also instructed
to build a boat or an ark

Abraham And Fulfillment In Genesis : The Book Of Genesis
The book of Genesis began with the covenant with Abraham, which was a binding– relationship
with God. God promised numerous descendants, land, and a relationship with him. God's first
blessing would provide Abraham with numerous descendants. In turn, God would make Abraham
and his descendants a great nation. His second blessing would provide him and his family with a
place to call home. His third blessing stated that Abraham would have a relationship with God. This
meant that, anyone who blessed Abraham would be blessed by God. On the other hand, anyone that
cursed him would be cursed in return. In order for these promises to take place, Abraham and all of
his male members and descendants were circumcised to let God know that they belonged to him.
The Pentatuach offered the reader hope in the fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant because the
promises were based solely in the obedience of Abraham and the Israelite people. We can believe
that the Abrahamic covenant would be fulfilled when God called Abraham to leave his country,
relatives, and family. By doing this, he would visit the land that God was going to give him. God
said, "I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a
blessing to others" (Genesis 12:2 NLT). The land that the Lord took Abraham too, was the land that
would be given to him and his descendants. After Abraham was gone, his descendants would be in
possession of the land. In the beginning, Abraham had a vision,

The Differences Of Genesis And Popol Vuh
It is important to believe in something. There are many fascinating, mysterious aspects of life which
cannot be revealed scientifically. Creation stories help us explain the unexplainable. There's a big
variety of them , different societies and different beliefs. Every culture provides its own narration of
the creation of the world, each unique but containing themes that are universal to many civilizations.
Genesis is the Hebrew people's idea of how it all began, how humans came to be. Popol Vuh sums
up the Mayan people's theory of the Earth's birth. Even though all that the gods in both of the stories
want is obedience, their attitude toward the people contrasts one another, which leads to the idea that
the Hebrew society values honesty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They look down on humans, owing to the fact that the Gods are their creators. Surprisingly, that's
the only thing the Hebrew version of God and the Mayans' vision of their creators have in common.
To put it briefly, God in Genesis is very forgiving, generous and fair. What's interesting is that He
seems to be giving humans a second chance by letting Noah and his family survive the flood.
Afterwards God promises Noah to not do anything that would harm the human race again – "I will
remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the
waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh" (Applebee p.73). This only demonstrates
God's good intentions and his willingness to help. To change the topic, in Popol Vuh the gods are
extremely strict and demanding. They treat people poorly. The only reason they create them is
because they feel the need to be worshipped. They are very tough and punishing. By way of contrast
to Genesis, in the Popul Vuh, the story ends with the people remaining imperfect and ignorant.

Sacrifice In Genesis
There has been some debate about Genesis and the actual time that it was written. Many people have
their theories and beliefs, but the truth is yet to be found. Genesis was said to be wrote by Moses,
however according to the reading I could assume that is not the case. Others also believe that Moses
was the author of the Genesis. The understanding of when Genesis as well as the other four books in
the Old Testament were wrote can help modern day understand the writings more. The Pentateuch
could use some clarifying and Ibn Ezra, Benedict Spinoza, Astruc, and Julius Wellhausen have all
had their own opinions about the issue. Many questions have been brought to light over the years.
Some of these include, why are there two such clearly different creation stories at the very beginning
of the Bible?, Why is sacrifice mentioned so casually at the dawn of time, and why does it play such
a big role with Cain and Abel?, If Adam and Eve were the first humans, from where did Cain get his
wife and how can he be afraid of other people retaliating for murdering his brother?, Why is the
flood story so choppy and repetitive? (Enns, 2). These are all questions that are not only wondered

These also have been questioned. These speeches were given from the promise land. The book is all
in the third person if it was actually from Moses. Another question that raises eyebrows is that
Moses is not the author of the book (Enns, 2). The book talks about Moses dying, this is a clear
indicator that the book was not written by Moses, and rather someone else who lived longer than
Moses did. "A second early interpreter of Deuteronomy was the twelfth century rabbi Abraham Ibn
Ezra. Ibn Ezra was brilliant and respected and also reluctant to break with tradition too quickly–
including the tradition that Moses wrote the Pentateuch" (Enns, 3). He shared many passages that he
felt did not align with what was said in the

Dishonesty In Genesis 25-28 In The Book Of Genesis
Through examination of the parables featured in the book of Genesis, there are numerous events
where characters are deceitful. This is specifically illustrated in Genesis 25–28 in the story of Esau
and Jacob. Throughout this narrative, it is demonstrated that Rebekah loved Jacob more than Esau,
while Isaac favored Esau more than Jacob. In Genesis 27, through an act of disguise and trickery,
Jacob received Isaac's blessing with the help of his mother, Rebekah. Because of the deceiving
actions of mother and son many have questioned the morality of Rebekah and the legitimacy of
Jacob. This is specifically questioned through the biblical teachings that shun the idea of dishonesty.
While there is no doubt that the actions of Rebekah and Jacob ... Show more content on

This however could be deferred if the elder son committed a sinful act, or sold his rights (Sarlo, 8).
While Isaac was enamored by Esau's gifts, Rebekah was mindful of God's prophecy. In Genesis 25:
29–34, Esau traded his birthright in exchange for food that Jacob was preparing. In this verse, a
famished Esau approached Jacob and demanded food. "Let me eat some of that red pottage, for I am
famished!" In response, Jacob proposed that Esau sell him his birthright prior to fulfillment of his
demands. Esau agreed and readily gave up what was promised to him. While the motivation of
Jacob is suspect, Esau's disregard for his birthright willingly, demonstrated a lack of regard for the
promises God made to Abraham regarding the family's blessing. Additionally, Esau disregarded the
family blessing in Genesis 26:34–35 by taking Judith and additionally, Bas'emath as his wives. It is
said in Genesis 26:35 that Judith and Bas'emath "made life bitter for Isaac and Rebekah." This
implies that the women were not considered suitable to pass on the traditions of Abraham. These
two instances demonstrate that Esau was willing to forsake what was promised to him for the short
term reward of

Genesis 2 Vs Genesis
There are indeed two stories in Genesis on how we and the world came about. The first story starts
at Genesis 1:1 and go through Genesis 2:3; the second story picks up at Genesis 2:4 and goes
through the chapter ending at Genesis 2:25. In the first story, The Creation takes six days and man
and woman are created last after all the plants and animals are created. In the second story, The
Creation focuses on one day the sixth day, the man is created first, then all the plants and animals
are created, and finally woman is created.
Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Later, in Genesis 2:4, it
seems that a second, different story of creation begins. These two stories actually describe the same
creation event. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first chapter of Genesis it presents the creation of man on the sixth day as the final point of
creation. Then, in the second chapter, the author gives a lot more detail regarding the creation of
man. People tend to claim contradictions between Genesis chapters 1–2. The first is in regard to
plant life. Genesis 1:11 records God creating vegetation on the third day. Genesis 2:5 states that
prior to the creation of man "no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the
field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to
work the ground." So, which is it? Did God create vegetation on the third day before He created
man (Genesis 1), or after He created man (Genesis 2)? The Hebrew words for "vegetation" are
different in the two passages. Genesis 1:11 uses a term that refers to vegetation in general. Genesis
2:5 uses a more specific term that refers to vegetation that requires agriculture, as in a person to tend
to it, a gardener. The passages do not contradict. Genesis 1:11 speaks of God creating vegetation,
and Genesis 2:5 speaks of God not causing "farmable" vegetation to grow until after He created
man. It's easily misinterpreted in

Genesis
The book of Genesis is within the Narrative History and Genealogies genre. Genesis was written by
Moses in 1445 B.C. (Hindson & Towns). Genesis is the first book in the entire bible, it tells about
the beginning of life. The word Genesis literally means "in the beginning". The book of Genesis
opens with the story of creation. God, a spirit from above an empty void, creates the world by
calling for there to be light, sky, land, vegetation, and living creatures over a period of six days, and
there was. Each day God pronounced his works to be "good" (Genesis 1:4). God created Adam and
Eve and placed them in the Garden of Eden. God gives Adam and Eve one rule, he forbids them to
eat from the tree of good and evil. Eve cannot resist the temptation and eats the fruit, and shares it
with Adam, God curses the couple and bans the two from the Garden. Adam and Eve later have two
sons Cain and Abel. Later Cain becomes enraged that God is more pleased with Abels sacrifice then
with his, and kills his brother Abel (Genesis 4:8). God then exiles Cain from his home (Genesis
4:11–14). Adam and Eve then have a third son Seth, and with Cain and Seth the ... Show more

In the book of Genesis, Jacob had many numinous encounters with God. From an experiential view
God came to Jacob in his dream and spoke with him. He allowed Jacob to see what he could do for

Comparing Macbeth And Genesis 3 : Macbeth Vs. Genesis
MacBeth vs. Genesis 3
Most people would never even consider Shakespearian plays resembling stories from the Bible, but
this may actually be the case with MacBeth and chapter three of the Book of Genesis. MacBeth is a
story of greed, sin, and betrayal, which are concept extremely similar to those from the story of
'Original Sin.' Chapter three of Genesis tells of the tale of Adam and Eve and their betrayal of God,
otherwise known as the story of 'Original Sin.' Adam and Eve's story is the basis of all sin, and all
fables that include wrongdoings. One obvious similarity between the two tales are the antagonists.
The serpent is the antagonist in Genesis, as he coerces Eve into betraying God, and her husband. To
convince Eve to commit this crimes, the serpent tells her of the knowledge and wisdom she could
gain from eating from the Tree of Knowledge; "For God knows that when eat from it your eyes will
be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil," (Genesis 3:5). In MacBeth, the three
witches, otherwise known as the 'weird sisters,' are presented as antagonists. The witches tell
MacBeth of his fate through prophecies; "they have more in them than mortal knowledge,"
(MacBeth, Act I, Scene V, Line 3). The prophecies tell of MacBeth becoming king of Scotland,
which is what sparks the flame of MacBeth's greed for power. These prophetic spiels also narrated
MacBeth's fall from power. Both of these stories' antagonists motivated the protagonists to betray a

Interpretation Of Genesis
The Bible is the world's most widely read book. It contains multiple holy books that reveal who God
is and account for His many works for humankind. These books describe the story of God from
creation, to the fall, to redemption, and lastly to the new creation known as revelation. The big
picture of the Bible is to tell the story of God's works from creation of the world, which was
Genesis, to the end, which is revelation. It is important to familiarize oneself with these passages
and texts because they serve the purpose to teach important lessons to help humankind live in God's
image. As stated in the ESV Study Guide, "The Bible contains 66 books, written in three languages
over 1,500 years by dozens of authors writing in numerous genres for diverse audiences." For this
reason, the meaning of the texts of the Bible are left to each reader's interpretations and requires
technical skill and spiritual receptivity. This assignment will demonstrate my knowledge and
interpretation of the Bible and its big picture. Graeme Goldsworthy's work on biblical theology,
outlines the story of the bible as " God's people in God's place under God's rule," meaning God is
the creator of everything (Shaw). The bible begins with the book of Genesis. Genesis comes from
the Greek word of "origin". It is the book of the origin of the world and the beginning of Creation,
as God is the creator of all things, include people. The importance of Genesis is that it includes laws

The Pericope Genesis 2:4–25
On the other hand, Genesis chapter 2, that is 2: 4–25 is anthropocentric, focusing on the creation of
man and his place within this created system. In Genesis 2, one finds that each thing is created with
man being the focus, placed in a particular relationship to man. In Genesis 1, man is the epitome of
creation, created in the image of God; in Genesis 2 man is the center of a circle with created things
in a relationship to him. The garden is planted for man (8,15); trees are made to grow so that man
may eat of them (9, 16); the two trees that are an exception have a special relationship to him (17);
animals and birds are created so that man give them names (19); woman is made as man's helper
(21). Interestingly, Genesis 1 refers to the "heavens and the earth" (1:1; 2:4a), while Genesis 2 has
the opposite sequence: "the earth and the heavens" (4b). This is significant, for the remainder of
chapter two the emphasis is on the earth and man's place in it. Genesis two makes no mention of
light, firmament, sun, moon, stars–parts of the heavens; rather it concerns the earth, the garden,
trees, rivers, animals, birds, and man and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How does the Church interpret the Bible or Scripture generally speaking? A partial answer to that
question is hermeneutics. Hermeneutics is the science of interpretation and it functions alongside
exegesis which is the process of understanding what a particular text meant in its original context.
Exegesis would most likely be compared to the hashtag speak in today's society. While some
Catholics believe that exegesis is not as important as simplistic, devotional reading, it is quite
significant in respect to its relationship to hermeneutics. Proper hermeneutics avoids being
subjective and using fundamentalism. Why is hermeneutics important? It is important because it
allows one to properly interpret a text avoiding literalism and how such a text fits in today's ... Show

As mentioned before, this method uses specific types of criticisms in order to better understand the
original meaning of the biblical text which are textual, literary, form and source criticism. To begin,
I will apply form criticism to the text. Form criticism essentially asks this question: What is the
genre of the text? Genesis chapter one through eleven are known as the Primeval History because
they recount the foundational event in the history of Israel before recorded making. As a result these
stories cannot be historically verified therefore belonging the genre known as Myth. As so, Genesis
8 is of the Myth genre. A myth always contains a larger theological truth, it provides a way of
talking about the meaning of life, and it is a certain truth that escapes scientific and historical
documentation. Furthermore, that would make any other chapters in Genesis 1–11 a myth. For
example, Genesis 1 which contains one of the creation stories. The creation story is considered a
myth because the events cannot be historically proven. There is no legitimate place in the world that
accounts for the Garden of Eden as being a real

The Value of Genesis
Many teens today have a habit of questioning books that are too 'old' or 'stuffy' to apply to their
lives. Some of them may find connections to works by William Shakespeare or Jane Austen, but
what about the other books, such as those from the Bible? These are usually regarded as too
religious to have any relations to life, but that is not necessarily true. Take, for example, Genesis.
Although it is thousands of years old, the stories, themes, and modern–day allusions contained
within it can still apply to everyday life– even to those teenagers who feel disconnected from this
book. To begin with, many stories in Genesis relate closely to books that exist today. In fact, some
of them are actually based completely on the stories of Genesis ... Show more content on

In addition, the White Witch can be considered the 'devil,' as she tries to tempt the Pevensie children
several times throughout the series (also a reference to the temptation of Adam and Eve). Humans
are also referred to as "Son[s] of Adam" (Lewis, 39) and "Daughter[s] of Eve" (Lewis, 15), another
reference to Genesis. In addition, many poems allude to Adam and Eve, like Robert Frost's Never
Again Would the Bird's Song Be The Same, which mentions Eve in the line, "From having heard the
daylong voice of Eve" (Frost, line 3). Anthony Hecht's Naming the Animals is actually just about
Adam naming all of the animals that God gave him domain over. Beyond just Adam and Eve, Jacob
Russell's poem How Jacob Loved centers around Jacob, Leah, and Rachel. Even if you aren't the
literary type, there are many allusions that musicians have made to Genesis (many of these using
Genesis as a reference to the origins of life and creation). For example, there are actually two
different bands and one musician named Genesis. One of the groups is an English rock band formed
in 1967, while the other is a Columbian folk–rock band popular during the 1970s. The English
musician Neil Andrew Megson's stage name is Genesis P–Orridge, yet another reference. In addition
to the bands, many albums have been titled Genesis. American jazz drummer Elvin

Righteousness In Genesis
Starting in the latter half of the fourth chapter of Genesis, the line of Cain is presented as being
wicked and displaying a lack of regard for God. The fifth chapter, however, offers a light in a dark
tunnel with the line of Seth. Amongst the line of Seth, men began to seek after God and call upon
His name (cf. Gen. 4:26). Enoch, for example, would come to characterize Seth's line and contrast
individuals like Lamech in Cain's line. Noah would also be a descendant of Seth and would be
allowed by God to continue the human race despite the flood. However, the righteousness contained
within Seth's line would not persist for long. Picking up in the sixth chapter of Genesis, the "sons of

Genesis : Themes In The Book Of Genesis
Ever wonder how the world came about, how we came to existence, how everything is the way it is,
who God is? Adam and Eve? All these questions are answered in the book of Genesis. Genesis
means "in the beginning", this gives a good introduction to the Bible because Genesis is the first
book of the Bible. It begins with the story of God's creation of the universe. God also reveals
himself in the book of Genesis, God is revealed in genesis as the one in who life exists. One also
gets to see how God reveals himself through creation, Adam and Eve's fall and their choice that
leads to them being kicked out of Eden. One also gets to see how man became evil when Cain kills
Abel. Noah, his family and a group of animals got spared from a flood in order to restart creation.
God also carried out his restoration by establishing his own nation of Israel. ..."nd in you all the
families of the earth will be blessed". At the end of Genesis God's people were in a foreign land still
questioning about the Promised Land. Throughout Genesis there are major themes that are traced.
Two major themes that stand out to me are; Creation and the downfall of mankind. "In the beginning
God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). This sentence a lone shows what was to come.
One learns from the text that the earth was unstructured and with nothing and dark but God spoke
his creation into life. God created the world by the

There are two main character in this chapter God and Abram. I believe that the setting of this
chapter is in the Promise Land. I believe this because he says that this is the land that the Israelites
will get when they are released from bondage. From what I know there is the Promise Land that
they receive after several hundred years of waiting. Most of this chapter is about God's covenant
with Abram and how it is going to be fulfilled and how it has started to get to the point of
fulfillment. Here, God test; the faith of Abram and asks his to perform a sacrifice. Verse 1 begins
with "After these things..." This shows that some time has passed since the last chapter. "These

I verse 2–3, Abram asks the Lord what he (the Lord) wants from him since he does not have any
children. He mentions a man by the name of Eliezer of Damascus. This is the person he says that
will inherit his estate if he shall die. Who is this guy? Where did he come from I mean how is he
involved with Abram? From what I read in the notes of my bible (NIV) they say that this man could
be the servant of Abram. The servants of the owners can be the people that inherit the land of their
owners if the owner was to die. During my reading I never found out where he was from but I seen
that he was also kind of mentioned in Exodus 4:20. In verse 4–5 the Lord tells Abram that he will
have children to take over the land that he has. God has not given Abram everything that he has
promised right on the spot he wants to make sure that Abram has faith in him but he will fulfill his
promises just as he said. God tells Abram to count all the stars in the sky there are millions of them
when he looks up. I believe is saying that we are all decedents or children that Abram would have.
Thus he will make a great nation and have children. Here Abram repeats the idea of his servant
getting the land. This could be because he wants God to know he wants a child and that God has not
given him any like he (God) had promised. In verse 6, there is no talking between Abram and

Comparing Genesis And The Flood Story Of Genesis Vs....
Throughout human existence, different cultures share stories that may have many meanings; from
explaining why mankind exists to how a hero defeats a forest monster. Two well known stories are
Genesis and Gilgamesh. Both stories contain a part where there is a flood that wipes out mankind.
Although two different stories, the flood story from Genesis and the flood story from Gilgamesh
share a plethora of similarities that connect the two stories. Some key similarities include the cause
of the flood, the animals on the boat, and the way of how each hero in the two stories find dry land.
Firstly, the reason for the floods in both stories involve the wiping out of mankind. In the story of
Genesis, God believed the mankind became lawless. "The Lord saw how great was man's
wickedness on earth, and how every plan devised by his mind was nothing but evil all the time."
(Genesis). Although God created mankind, the actions of them did not please him and he no longer
believed they were worthy living on earth any longer, which concluded him creating a massive flood
to wipe them out. In comparison, the flood story in Gilgamesh shares a similar storyline. The gods
believed that the humans were too loud and wild; resulting to their lack of sleep. "In those days the
world teemed, the people multiplied, the world bellowed like a wild bull, and the great god was
aroused by the clamour." (The Story of the Flood). Therefore, the flood was constructed to wipe out
humankind so that the gods can

Genesis Allegory
The Bible in the Christian religion is used as a guide and answer book to any concerns that one
might have. With one concern having in mind about whether evolution happened or not, perhaps
Genesis has a hidden message about this topic. In the beginning of chapter two of Genesis, it starts
by God creating the first man and woman and placing them in the garden of Eden. God told Adam
and Eve that they can eat from any tree and plant they want, but except the fruits from the tree of
knowledge. At some time, a snake described as "the most intelligent of all the wild animals"
appeared and told Eve that probably the reason why the Lord didn't allowed anyone to eat the fruits
because they will "see clearly and.. will be like God, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3)." Eve,
thinking the tree of knowledge will provide her wisdom, eats the fruit as well her husband Adam. As
a result, humanity till now suffers the consequences of Adam and Eve as same with the snake, it was
known as an intelligent animal to a cursed one. This allegory in Genesis warns humanity about "too
much knowledge". For example, the snake was known as the most intelligent creature, but yet it was
the cause of the downfall of Adam and Eve. Eve disobeyed God and took a bite of the fruit from the
tree of knowledge, because she wanted to be like God and obtain the understatement of life. ... Show

The Book of Genesis
The book of Genesis tells the story of the beginning of the world. Genesis answers some of life's
biggest questions– why are we here, how did everything come to be, how do I relate to others
around me. Through this story, God's unchanging nature is revealed. We are exposed to man's
shortcomings and failures, but we are also offered the hope of one to come who will be the savior of
all. The first eleven chapters of Genesis provide a foundation for a Biblical worldview– an
explanation of how a Christian should view the natural world, human identity, human relationships,
and civilization.
Genesis 1 begins with the creation of the earth. God created the world in six days and rested on the
seventh. He saw everything he had made and "it was very good". God created man and woman in
his image. In this way, God made human beings higher than every other creature. He gave them
dominion over the earth and every living thing on it. Genesis 2:15 says, "He placed the man in the
garden to cultivate and keep it". This is why we as humans ought to take care of the Earth. We
pollute the earth and neglect to care for what God has given us dominion over– what God has
created to bring him glory. Being good stewards of the earth not only protects the natural
environment and animals on the earth, but also all the other people that God created. Pollution has
the most negative impact on the poor, and we know from scripture that we are to care for the least
powerful of people. Therefore, we know

Genesis : Theme At Issue Of The Genesis Debate
The Genesis Debate
Tina Do
Bethel University

Theme at Issue
The theme at issue is the debate on Genesis. The book of Genesis is usually the chapter that most
Christians know as the creation story of all humans and living creatures. As it says in Genesis
chapter one, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless
and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the
waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and
he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called
"night." And there was evening, and there was morning–the first day" (New International Version).
This is the start to how God created everything on that very first day. These chapters seem to give
humans an idea of both the origins of the universe, and the God who originated it. The idea of
creation, how the Earth was created, and how humans came into existence is not a subject only
Christians think about. It has been debated upon; also argued within and throughout multiple
religions as well such as Judaism. When it comes to evangelicals, however, there have been many
interpretations. This leads into the debate on Genesis and creation. As an Evangelical, you believe
that there is one God who created life and the world we live in. However, there is not universal
agreement when it comes to how and when God

Differences Of God's Desires In Genesis And The Book Of...
In the Book of Genesis and the Book of Jonah, God reveals His desires for His people and expects
obedience. These desires involve fulfilling His plan which includes, living in community, behaving
peacefully, obeying and respecting Him, and repenting of sins. God makes His desires known, and
in turn, His people obey and disobey these desires. More specifically, examples of this arise in the
stories pertaining to Adam and Eve, Noah, Cain and Abel, and Jonah and the people of Nineveh.
Noah as well as Jonah and the people of Nineveh show numerous examples of acting on God's plans
and desires in a positive way, while the other examples contrast this and provide instances where
God's desires are not followed. Although there are those who choose not to follow His desires, the
instances where His desires are followed hold the utmost focus and importance because they
represent God's plan coming to fruition through His creation. Beginning with the Book of Genesis,
as God has completed His creation, He explains what He desires for the people that will reside on it
and how he wants them to fulfill His creation. He explains, "Let us make humankind in our image,
according to our likeness" (Gen. 1:26). These words from God present the idea that He wants to be
one with His people and that He wants them to be alike to Him. However, His people will go on to
show that while they are created in His image and likeness, they exhibit flaws and behaviors that are
not associated with God. Another

The Similarities Of The Flood Characters Of Gilgamesh And...
Though Gilgamesh and Genesis are completely different stories, they both contain flood narratives
that have similarities and differences within each. The three comparable points in these texts deal
with the gods and heroes of the stories. First the gods in these narratives all have a specific reason
behind their decision to wipe out mankind. Second the unique characteristics of the heroes or
survivors of the flood are shown throughout the events of the texts. Finally the gods who bring these
floods upon earth all reveal their qualities through their actions against humanity. These three topics
relate from one book to another in many ways. Before each of the floods there are reasons that each
god decides to eliminate the people on earth. In Gilgamesh the god Enlil chooses to destroy
humanity with a flood because it is the best way to get rid of the individuals who have sinned. After
the flood the god Ea says "Let him who has performed an evil act be punished for that act. Let not
the flood be brought down on the heads of all for what one man has done..."(Ferry 74). This
statement shows how Enlil punished all of mankind when most of them weren't to blame. On the
contrary, in Genesis Gods motive for destroying humanity with a flood is that the world was turning
evil and cruel, which was not what God intended. God's thoughts are shown through the following
quote "The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination
of the thoughts of his

The book of Genesis which directly translates to "origin" narrates the story of creation. In general,
Genesis 1–3 is an account of how God created the world, human beings, plants and animals, and the
commitment of the first sin. Unlike Malakas and Maganda who sprang from the kawayan at the
same time, a hierarchy of genders can be found in Genesis. The second chapter of the book tells us
that man was created first and was given the primary role to take care of God's creation associated
with a sense of authority. The woman was created after and out of man himself to fulfill the role of
being the man's helper or companion and thus it can be inferred in this account alone that the
woman is subjected to a secondary and subordinate position.

While the Creation, on the other hand, is entitled to bring holiness towards its Creator that highlights
the importance of Sabbath on the seventh day when God decided to rest. Human beings embody the
relationship of God and Creation through the act of stewardship. The whole relationship among
God, Human Beings, and the Creation exemplify the central idea of Genesis which is "Shalom".
Shalom is defined as peace in the Old Testament but it also denotes "wholeness" or "harmony".
Every part of God's creation is distinct but interconnected, working and existing in accordance with
God's intention. Shalom summarizes the whole picture depicted in the first two chapters of Genesis,
describing the connections among God, human beings, and the rest of His creation; the role of
humans is to preserve Shalom that transcends beyond stewardship.

the nature of God as our creator, the value of the human life. Genesis answers some of life's
questions. Why are we here? How did everything come to be? We are told about man's shortcomings

Remembering the punishment for Adam when he disobeyed God was that after the fall he would
have to work the ground with intensive labor now (Gen 3:17–19), and it would take the "sweat of
your brow" from this point forward. Cain was angered by this, and perhaps in a jealous rage, he
killed his brother Abel (Gen 4:8). When God asked Cain where his brother was Able answered with
"Am I my brother's keeper?" (Gen 4:9) Why did God ask Cain this? He surely had to know what had
happened. God knows what we do, what is in our hearts, what we think, and say. I believe that God
asked Cain this question in hopes that Cain would repent and ask for forgiveness for what he had
done. The Lord put a mark on Cain to warn everyone not to kill him "Anyone who kills you will be
punished seven times worse than I am punishing you" (Gen 4:15) and he was driven from his family
and home. Cain's curse was harsh but was it God's ultimate punishment? God's wrath is always
mixed with love and grace. God put on 'mark' on Cain, while we have no idea what or where this
mark was placed, Cain had God's protection. That only God could or would bring punishment on

Genesis 1 Vs. Genesis
For thousands of years, people have read and examined the stories of creation and Genesis from the
Hebrew Bible. Genesis contains two different stories of creation. These are commonly known as
Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 which contain very similar details but in different orders. Genesis 1 begins
with the creation of heaven and earth while Genesis 2 begins with the creation of man, Adam. Both
these stories have immense importance. However, what would be different if there was only version
of events? If there was only one version of creation that could be published, Genesis 1 would be best
because of the series of events, man and woman being created at the same time, and the similarity to
the secular view of creation.

Genesis : The Beginning
Genesis: The Beginning
Genesis is considered to be one of the stepping stones of Christianity that tries to explore the world
according to the analogy explained through scriptures, relating all the living and non–living being to
the almighty. Genesis gives way to the rise of purity and tries to explore the motive that God has
behind each and every action. One of the core aspects of Genesis is its idea of beginning. The
beginning that leads to everything.
In Genesis, one of the beginning is the beginning of the earth and universe. It is important to keep in
mind that through the creation of the universe and the earth, the Almighty has displayed his limitless
power and wisdom. The perfect balance that can be seen in Mother Nature is a true reflection of
God's unfathomable authority and supreme power. At the same time, it also comes with great
significance to the human beings since without the creation of the universe and earth, there would be
no living beings here who would recognize the might and glory of God. The beginning of earth and
the universe started a universal system which roles through and leads us to a point where we
gradually begin to understand the significance of all the things that can be seen around us. With the
beginning of the universe and earth, it is more like a beginning of life created by God. It also carries
great significance since through the scriptures we know that everything that begins leads to an end.
So at the end of the whole circle, God will

Christians to explain the process in which the first man and woman moved from a state of innocent

story of Lot and his wife first starts off when two angels arrive in Sodom and are invited to spend
the night in their home. When dawn arrives, the wife is warned by the angels to leave to avoid a
future disaster. After Lot has delayed his family's departure, the two angels take him, his wife, and
two daughters and fly them to safety. Here they command, "Flee for your life! Do not look behind
you, nor stop anywhere in the Plain; flee to the hills, lest you be swept away." As the angels bring
Lot and his family to a nearby town, later known as Zoar, his wife looks back and turns into a pillar

The first verb in the Bible is "create." Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning, God created the heavens
and the earth." Throughout all of the Old Testament, only God creates. Goldingay claims, "creating
involves exercising an extraordinary, effortless sovereignty in order to bring something into being."
Modern readers connect creation to God at the beginning of the world and with the creation of
animals and people. Genesis 1:24–31 explains the sixth day of Creation. This was the day God
created people. The day begins with God creating living creatures of three kinds: cattle, reptiles, and
wild animals. They God made male and female in His image and likeness. He then blessed
humankind giving them the task of procreation and dominion over all of the earth. Everything that
God created, He gave to man. Finally, God looked upon all that He saw and realized that it was

The Hebrew word that is translated into "image" is tselem or selem. It has various meanings, but
within the context of Genesis, the best definition is that of likeness or resemblance. Through the
whole Old Testament, there are a few times where "selem describes an idolatrous image that is to be
destroyed." Furthermore, there are times in the Psalms where selem is used in a less concrete way. In
Psalm 39:7, selem parallels hebel which means "vanity." Coupled with this, Psalm 73:20 selem
parallels "dream." From this, it can be concluded that "if selem in these two texts is the same word
used in Genesis and in the passages cited above, then it may be used for purposes other than
describing the physical imitation of something." In this case, the second definition of image as
"mere, empty, semblance" could apply. This would imply that there is emptiness, unreality, or

Comparing The Creation And The Story Of Genesis And Genesis
In the sacred scripture of both the Bible or the Hebrew Tanakh, the first two chapters of Genesis
consist of both the Creation, and the story of Adam and Eve. Despite one story being ordained to
one and another. Both the Creation, and the story of Adam and Eve can be compared on both their
similarities, the way how both stories can connect, and finally by their differences on connecting
their stories. When the author was writing the first chapter of Genesis, the author emphasized
densely on the creation of the world and how he wanted to show the creation of the humanity. By
stating "In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth" (Genesis 1:1), later in the chapter,
the statement that was written in Genesis 1:1 would help transit to a new chapter in Genesis 2:4
which is the story of Adam and Eve. As Genesis 2:4 states "This is the account of the heavens and
the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made heaven and the earth"(Genesis 2:4), the
transition from Genesis 1:1 to Genesis 2:4 showed the similarity on how the chapter started, by
stating how God created the heaven and the earth on the first day, and how in Adam and Eve the
author stated how the world was created by the creator himself as stated from the Bible Study Tool,
"None but the Creator himself could give this information, and therefore it is through faith we
understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God"(Hebrew 11:3, BST). However, in the

Romans chapters one, two, and three. The author will incorporate various connections between the
chapters read and, will also, make applications on how families, churches, or society can use these
verses in their lives.
Background Information The author would say that the background to the creation story is one of
the easier ones to grasp. Simply because: that is when the world began. I would hope that, as a
Christian in a Christian school, this is not a mind blowing conclusion. According to Alex Varughese

Christians were set apart until the sin of Adam and Eve. After the sin, Christians no longer had the
easy way out. Christians have to work hard, not only on work, but also in their presentation of
Christianity. The second connection to the sin of Adam and Eve would be the list that is given in
Romans of all the sin that the people of Rome are committing. It is no coincidence that worse and
worse consequences to sin have come about since the fall of man. "There is no one who
understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away they have together become
worthless; there is not one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues
practice deceit, the poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.
Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do
not know. There is not fear of God before their eyes" (Romans 3:11–18, New International Version).
The most prominent correlation between Genesis and Romans would be that sin is worse than it was
at the fall of man and just as Adam and Eve sinned; man is still sinning. No longer is their simply
disobedience; now there is a list of the sins that man is committing and willingly displaying for
anyone to see. Adam and Eve were trying to hide their sins, the people of Rome are sinning for full

Genesis Creation

  • 1. Genesis Creation The book of Genesis starts with God creating the heavens and the earth. He later creates man, Adam, in His own image. Out of man He creates woman, Eve, and He blesses them. They live in the Garden of Eden and are commanded to work and keep the grounds. However, Satan came in and tempted them into sinning by eating the forbidden fruit. They are cast out of the garden, and God promises that a man will come from His offspring to reconcile humanity back to God. Adam's lineage continued and man becomes more evil and God could not endure watching man's wickedness. Therefore, God planned to flood the whole world and make all things new again. This led Him to anointing Noah to build an ark to save humanity and animals from extinction. The flood came ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... God also reminded Abraham of the promise He made back in the garden where a king shall come from his line and Abraham forms a covenant with God that all males in his line shall be circumcised. God keeps His promise and gives Abraham a son, Isaac and his son, Jacob; he was the younger brother but got the blessing because he deceived his father. Years pass and Jacob wrestled with God and demanded that He bless him and the Lord blessed him by fulfilling his promise to Abraham. The Lord changed Jacob's name to Israel and from Israel came twelve sons which later are the twelve tribes of Israel. Joseph, the youngest son, Jacob favors him and gives him a colorful coat and his brothers become jealous and plan to kill Joseph. They end up selling him into slavery and the traveler took Joseph to Egypt and was sold to Potiphar. As time passed he gained favor in the Pharaoh's eyes. However, the Pharaoh's wife took notice of Jacob and she wanted him to sleep with her. When Jacob denied, she made up a story to throw him in jail. While in jail he gained favor with the prisoners by interpreting dreams. Pharaoh heard about it and made Joseph second in command in Egypt when he predicted a devastating famine. Famine came to the land and he saves all of Egypt and his family. When his family came to Egypt and realized it was Joseph second in command, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Chapters Of Genesis The first two chapters of Genesis explain the chronicle events of the creation story. While there are yet, two accounts of the creation events within Genesis one and two, there is no contradiction. It proclaims a detail account of how God, the Source of creation, created everything. Genesis gives us our first glimpse into the characteristics and attributes of God, humankind and creation itself. When studying the first two chapters of Genesis we find several characteristics of God. The two characteristic I want to explore is: God as Creator & God of order. The events of creation story how God and God alone created of everything. Everything that God created was "good". Another attribute of God is that He is a God of order. God systematically and sequentially created everything in it proper time and place. He created the heavens and earth before creating before making light. He also created the waters before He created the fish of the seas. He created everything that humankind would need before making humankind in His Image. God is a God of creation and order. Genesis also taught us about humankind. Humankind was created to be a relational being and to be a steward. God created humankind to be in relation with God and with each other. God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a way of God remaining a just God, he allowed an alternative to the Genesis account of creations. There are several contrasts between the two creation accounts. Some the fundamental differences are: order versus chaos, God who controlled emotions versus the emotions that control God's, a covenant relation versus cunning and planning relation, man's dominion versus man's inhabitants. These differences are significant because of the direct contrast between the natures of both sets of God's. • 5. Genesis : The Beliefs Of Abraham And Genesis In Genesis chapter twenty two, verses one through nineteen, God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. As Abraham obeyed, the Lord sent an angel who provided a ram instead and blessed Abraham by reiterating the promises. In Genesis chapter eighteen, verses sixteen through thirty three, Abraham pleaded to God not to kill the people of Sodom. Then Abraham bargained with God about how many good people could save the city, saying there could be at least ten good people. Abraham responds to God in two different ways in these chapters, one he argues with God and the other he shows God respect by doing what he says. In both of these chapters, there is a combination of sources that visit Abraham to help him follow his faith in God. Genesis chapter eighteen comes from the J sources, which is Yahwist, it is described that God has humanlike characteristics. Yahwist is believed to be composed in southern kingdom, Judah and is favorable view of kingship (BBS). The Lord appeared to Abraham as three people that looked humanlike, so much that Abraham wasn't sure if it was the Lord. These three men looked towards Sodom and told Abraham the plan to kill off the evil form Sodom. Abraham then convinces God to look for fifty good people then got him down to ten and God took the plea. This debate over the killing of the town shows the great moral virtue of Abraham and affirms Gods choice of him as Israel's patriarch (HCSB). This source is also shown when God promises Abraham "I will make of you a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Disobedience In Genesis Genesis is the first book of the Old Testament. Genesis was written by Moses to the people of Israel in 1450–1410 B.C. The purpose of Genesis is to display God's creation of the world and his desire to have people set apart to worship him. Genesis sets the stage for the entire bible. Genesis has six key themes of focus. First, is the beginning where Genesis explains the beginning of the world, human history, family, civilization and salvation. Disobedience being the second theme and Genesis teaches why men are evil. Disobedience occurs when people chose not to follow God's plan of living. Then this leads to the third theme which is sin that destroys people's lives. Forth, is the promises God makes to help and protect us. Fifth, is obedience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Value of Genesis Copious amounts of teenagers today have a habit of questioning books that are too 'old' or 'stuffy' to apply to their everyday lives. Some of them may find correlations to works by William Shakespeare or Jane Austen, but what about the other books, such as those from the Bible? Usually regarded as too religious to have any connection to life, teens ignore these texts in favor of ones that they feel can integrate into their lives with much more ease– even though some books in the Bible can actually connect more to life than some of these other 'relative' works. Take, for example, the book of Genesis. Although written and published thousands of years ago, the stories, themes, and modern–day allusions contained within it can still apply to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This takes many ideas and themes from the stories contained in Genesis– mostly dealing with the first few chapters– and applies them to modern and ancient theories alike. Beyond that, one of the most recognizable allusions to Genesis would be that of C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia series. In fact, all of the books in this series not only allude to Genesis, but to the entire Bible. Many, many references and parallels can be drawn between Genesis and The Chronicles of Narnia– for example, Aslan can be considered the 'God' of Narnia, as the Narnians refer to him as the creator of the world. In addition, the White Witch portrays his opposite– the 'devil'– as she tries to tempt the Pevensie children several times throughout the series (also a reference to the temptation of Adam and Eve). Humans are also referred to as "Son[s] of Adam" (Lewis, 39) and "Daughter[s] of Eve" (Lewis, 15), another reference to Genesis. Furthermore, many poems allude to Adam and Eve, like Robert Frost's Never Again Would the Bird's Song Be The Same, which mentions Eve in the line, "From having heard the daylong voice of Eve" (Frost, line 3). Anthony Hecht's Naming the Animals offers the apparent descriptions of Adam naming all of the animals that God gave him domain over. Beyond just Adam and Eve, Jacob Russell's poem How Jacob Loved centers around Jacob, Leah, and Rachel. Even if you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

God, that's where Genesis begin, all at once we see God creating the world in a majestic display of Power and purpose culminating with a man and women made like himself (1:26–27) Genesis sets the stage for the entire Bible it reveals the purpose and nature of God (Creator, Sustainer, Judge, Redeemer and the value an dignity of human beings. In Genesis 1:2, "The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters." God formed the light and brought positivity to the dark world. In Genesis 2, the chapter describes the creation of man and woman. The Lord created the Garden of Eden and made the man. At the end of the chapter of Genesis 2, a woman was created out of man's rib. The similarities of both chapters were the creations. God created sky, man, woman, animals, vegetables, and birds. Describe the reign of King David in full sentences. Why do you think he represents the "ideal king" for Israel? The reign of King David is very well known throughout history. David was born in 907 BCE. He reigned as king for 40 years. David reigned seven years in Hebron and thirty three years in Jerusalem. His son was Solomon, who reigned after his father. David died at age 70 and was buried in Mount Zion. Initially, David did not seek for kingship, but was appointed by the Israelites. King David's first action was when he marched into Jerusalem with the Israelites. Following the conquer, he made the city into his capital. King David moved the Ark to Jerusalem with intentions to build a temple. However, it was rejected by God because King David's hands were full of blood. • 15. Creation In Genesis And Genesis How the world people are living in right now was created in the beginning? Humankind has been asking this question throughout the centuries, and some people throw some answers to this question. People in Israel answer that God created the heaven and earth in the beginning while Babylonians answer that Marduk establishes the natural order and dwelling for gods after win a battle. The reason that these two ethnic groups respond differently is because they have been walked through different history and worldview. Enuma Elish, which is the Babylonian creation epic, and the book of Genesis in the Bible, what Israelites believe, shows little similar sense but totally different idea of creation. From the first part of each writing, book of Genesis and Enuma Elish, the similarity and difference can be found. In the beginning, the world in both Genesis and Enuma Elish does not have shape. There is nothing but just emptiness before creation in Genesis: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters" (New International Version 1:1–2). Enuma Elish also does not have things to be called but just gods are existed: "When on high no name was given to heaven / Nor below was the netherworld called by name, / Primeval Apsu was their progenitor. / And matrix–Tiamat was she who bore them all, / They were mingling their waters together, / No canebrake was intertwined nor thicket matted close. / When no gods at all had been brought forth, Nor called by names, non destinies ordained" (Enuma Elish Tablet 1 1–8). Furthermore, both God and gods are staying in the water in the beginning of the creation. It is interesting that the water is mentioned in both writings. However, although there are some similarities in both, there is a radical difference inherent between both stories. Genesis is written and fiducially focusing on the one and only God that no other god is mentioned. It simply says God creates the world. In contrast, Enuma Elish mentions two names Apsu and Tiamat and explains that they are the parents of other gods. Two books are divided into two different ideas of monotheism and ... • 17. Comparing Genesis And The Genesis Of The Gilgamesh And... Comparing The Gilgamesh and Genesis There is a collection of evidence to prove and explain how the Israelite people might have known or heard some Babylonian myths. This evidence is shown through similarities in the Genesis creation myths and many Babylonian myths. As an example, there are many similarities shown throughout the Gilgamesh story that relates to the Noah story in Genesis. Some similarities include the heroes character, the order to build a boat, the number of animals, the means of the flood, and the action of sacrificing after the flood. These are only a few of the many similarities interpreted in these stories. The first similarity is that the character of the heroes in both the Gilgamesh story as well as the Genesis/Noah story. In both stories, the heroes character is righteous. For example, in Noah's Ark, it states that "a righteous man" (Genesis 6:9) was directed to build an ark to save a limited and select group of people and all species of animals. Noah received these orders directly from God. On the other hand, Utnapishtim received his order from a dream. Accordingly, both heroes were ordered to build a boat. In the Gilgamesh, Utnapishtim is clearly instructed to build a boat and leave all wealth behind. "O man of Shuruppak, son of Ubartutu: Tear down the house and build a boat! Abandon wealth and seek living beings!" (Gilgamesh 23–25). In comparison, at the beginning of the Noah flood story, Noah is also instructed to build a boat or an ark ... God promised numerous descendants, land, and a relationship with him. God's first blessing would provide Abraham with numerous descendants. In turn, God would make Abraham and his descendants a great nation. His second blessing would provide him and his family with a place to call home. His third blessing stated that Abraham would have a relationship with God. This meant that, anyone who blessed Abraham would be blessed by God. On the other hand, anyone that cursed him would be cursed in return. In order for these promises to take place, Abraham and all of his male members and descendants were circumcised to let God know that they belonged to him. The Pentatuach offered the reader hope in the fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant because the promises were based solely in the obedience of Abraham and the Israelite people. We can believe that the Abrahamic covenant would be fulfilled when God called Abraham to leave his country, relatives, and family. By doing this, he would visit the land that God was going to give him. God said, "I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others" (Genesis 12:2 NLT). The land that the Lord took Abraham too, was the land that would be given to him and his descendants. After Abraham was gone, his descendants would be in possession of the land. In the beginning, Abraham had a vision, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Differences Of Genesis And Popol Vuh It is important to believe in something. There are many fascinating, mysterious aspects of life which cannot be revealed scientifically. Creation stories help us explain the unexplainable. There's a big variety of them , different societies and different beliefs. Every culture provides its own narration of the creation of the world, each unique but containing themes that are universal to many civilizations. Genesis is the Hebrew people's idea of how it all began, how humans came to be. Popol Vuh sums up the Mayan people's theory of the Earth's birth. Even though all that the gods in both of the stories want is obedience, their attitude toward the people contrasts one another, which leads to the idea that the Hebrew society values honesty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They look down on humans, owing to the fact that the Gods are their creators. Surprisingly, that's the only thing the Hebrew version of God and the Mayans' vision of their creators have in common. To put it briefly, God in Genesis is very forgiving, generous and fair. What's interesting is that He seems to be giving humans a second chance by letting Noah and his family survive the flood. Afterwards God promises Noah to not do anything that would harm the human race again – "I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh" (Applebee p.73). This only demonstrates God's good intentions and his willingness to help. To change the topic, in Popol Vuh the gods are extremely strict and demanding. They treat people poorly. The only reason they create them is because they feel the need to be worshipped. They are very tough and punishing. By way of contrast to Genesis, in the Popul Vuh, the story ends with the people remaining imperfect and ignorant. There is no redemption for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Sacrifice In Genesis There has been some debate about Genesis and the actual time that it was written. Many people have their theories and beliefs, but the truth is yet to be found. Genesis was said to be wrote by Moses, however according to the reading I could assume that is not the case. Others also believe that Moses was the author of the Genesis. The understanding of when Genesis as well as the other four books in the Old Testament were wrote can help modern day understand the writings more. The Pentateuch could use some clarifying and Ibn Ezra, Benedict Spinoza, Astruc, and Julius Wellhausen have all had their own opinions about the issue. Many questions have been brought to light over the years. Some of these include, why are there two such clearly different creation stories at the very beginning of the Bible?, Why is sacrifice mentioned so casually at the dawn of time, and why does it play such a big role with Cain and Abel?, If Adam and Eve were the first humans, from where did Cain get his wife and how can he be afraid of other people retaliating for murdering his brother?, Why is the flood story so choppy and repetitive? (Enns, 2). These are all questions that are not only wondered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These also have been questioned. These speeches were given from the promise land. The book talks about Moses dying, this is a clear indicator that the book was not written by Moses, and rather someone else who lived longer than Moses did. "A second early interpreter of Deuteronomy was the twelfth century rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra. Ibn Ezra was brilliant and respected and also reluctant to break with tradition too quickly– including the tradition that Moses wrote the Pentateuch" (Enns, 3). • 25. Dishonesty In Genesis 25-28 In The Book Of Genesis Through examination of the parables featured in the book of Genesis, there are numerous events where characters are deceitful. This is specifically illustrated in Genesis 25–28 in the story of Esau and Jacob. Throughout this narrative, it is demonstrated that Rebekah loved Jacob more than Esau, while Isaac favored Esau more than Jacob. In Genesis 27, through an act of disguise and trickery, Jacob received Isaac's blessing with the help of his mother, Rebekah. Because of the deceiving actions of mother and son many have questioned the morality of Rebekah and the legitimacy of Jacob. This is specifically questioned through the biblical teachings that shun the idea of dishonesty. While there is no doubt that the actions of Rebekah and Jacob ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This however could be deferred if the elder son committed a sinful act, or sold his rights (Sarlo, 8). While Isaac was enamored by Esau's gifts, Rebekah was mindful of God's prophecy. In Genesis 25: 29–34, Esau traded his birthright in exchange for food that Jacob was preparing. In this verse, a famished Esau approached Jacob and demanded food. "Let me eat some of that red pottage, for I am famished!" In response, Jacob proposed that Esau sell him his birthright prior to fulfillment of his demands. Esau agreed and readily gave up what was promised to him. While the motivation of Jacob is suspect, Esau's disregard for his birthright willingly, demonstrated a lack of regard for the promises God made to Abraham regarding the family's blessing. Additionally, Esau disregarded the family blessing in Genesis 26:34–35 by taking Judith and additionally, Bas'emath as his wives. It is said in Genesis 26:35 that Judith and Bas'emath "made life bitter for Isaac and Rebekah." This implies that the women were not considered suitable to pass on the traditions of Abraham. The first story starts at Genesis 1:1 and go through Genesis 2:3; the second story picks up at Genesis 2:4 and goes through the chapter ending at Genesis 2:25. In the first story, The Creation takes six days and man and woman are created last after all the plants and animals are created. In the second story, The Creation focuses on one day the sixth day, the man is created first, then all the plants and animals are created, and finally woman is created. In the first chapter of Genesis it presents the creation of man on the sixth day as the final point of creation. Then, in the second chapter, the author gives a lot more detail regarding the creation of man. People tend to claim contradictions between Genesis chapters 1–2. The first is in regard to plant life. Genesis 1:11 records God creating vegetation on the third day. Genesis 2:5 states that prior to the creation of man "no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground." So, which is it? Did God create vegetation on the third day before He created man (Genesis 1), or after He created man (Genesis 2)? The Hebrew words for "vegetation" are different in the two passages. Genesis 1:11 uses a term that refers to vegetation in general. Genesis 2:5 uses a more specific term that refers to vegetation that requires agriculture, as in a person to tend to it, a gardener. The passages do not contradict. Genesis 1:11 speaks of God creating vegetation, and Genesis 2:5 speaks of God not causing "farmable" vegetation to grow until after He created man. It's easily misinterpreted in ... • 29. Genesis The book of Genesis is within the Narrative History and Genealogies genre. Genesis was written by Moses in 1445 B.C. (Hindson & Towns). Genesis is the first book in the entire bible, it tells about the beginning of life. The word Genesis literally means "in the beginning". The book of Genesis opens with the story of creation. God, a spirit from above an empty void, creates the world by calling for there to be light, sky, land, vegetation, and living creatures over a period of six days, and there was. Each day God pronounced his works to be "good" (Genesis 1:4). God created Adam and Eve and placed them in the Garden of Eden. God gives Adam and Eve one rule, he forbids them to eat from the tree of good and evil. Eve cannot resist the temptation and eats the fruit, and shares it with Adam, God curses the couple and bans the two from the Garden. Adam and Eve later have two sons Cain and Abel. Later Cain becomes enraged that God is more pleased with Abels sacrifice then with his, and kills his brother Abel (Genesis 4:8). God then exiles Cain from his home (Genesis 4:11–14). He allowed Jacob to see what he could do for him as long as he obeyed his word. Jacob became enlightened and wanted to do exactly what God said. It seemed as if Jacob had some type of revelation and began to fear God. Fear him from the point of having faith that God would do exactly what he said as long as Jacob followed his every word. When God steps into Jacobs mind and soul the way he did. He showed him that he is God. He is the creator, the fixer, the almighty. Genesis MacBeth vs. Genesis 3 Most people would never even consider Shakespearian plays resembling stories from the Bible, but this may actually be the case with MacBeth and chapter three of the Book of Genesis. MacBeth is a story of greed, sin, and betrayal, which are concept extremely similar to those from the story of 'Original Sin.' Chapter three of Genesis tells of the tale of Adam and Eve and their betrayal of God, otherwise known as the story of 'Original Sin.' Adam and Eve's story is the basis of all sin, and all fables that include wrongdoings. One obvious similarity between the two tales are the antagonists. The serpent is the antagonist in Genesis, as he coerces Eve into betraying God, and her husband. To convince Eve to commit this crimes, the serpent tells her of the knowledge and wisdom she could gain from eating from the Tree of Knowledge; "For God knows that when eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil," (Genesis 3:5). In MacBeth, the three witches, otherwise known as the 'weird sisters,' are presented as antagonists. The witches tell MacBeth of his fate through prophecies; "they have more in them than mortal knowledge," (MacBeth, Act I, Scene V, Line 3). The prophecies tell of MacBeth becoming king of Scotland, which is what sparks the flame of MacBeth's greed for power. These prophetic spiels also narrated MacBeth's fall from power. • 37. Interpretation Of Genesis The Bible is the world's most widely read book. It contains multiple holy books that reveal who God is and account for His many works for humankind. These books describe the story of God from creation, to the fall, to redemption, and lastly to the new creation known as revelation. The big picture of the Bible is to tell the story of God's works from creation of the world, which was Genesis, to the end, which is revelation. It is important to familiarize oneself with these passages and texts because they serve the purpose to teach important lessons to help humankind live in God's image. As stated in the ESV Study Guide, "The Bible contains 66 books, written in three languages over 1,500 years by dozens of authors writing in numerous genres for diverse audiences." For this reason, the meaning of the texts of the Bible are left to each reader's interpretations and requires technical skill and spiritual receptivity. This assignment will demonstrate my knowledge and interpretation of the Bible and its big picture. Graeme Goldsworthy's work on biblical theology, outlines the story of the bible as " God's people in God's place under God's rule," meaning God is the creator of everything (Shaw). • 39. Genesis 2 Vs Genesis 2: 4-25 The Pericope Genesis 2:4–25 On the other hand, Genesis chapter 2, that is 2: 4–25 is anthropocentric, focusing on the creation of man and his place within this created system. In Genesis 2, one finds that each thing is created with man being the focus, placed in a particular relationship to man. In Genesis 1, man is the epitome of creation, created in the image of God; in Genesis 2 man is the center of a circle with created things in a relationship to him. The garden is planted for man (8,15); trees are made to grow so that man may eat of them (9, 16); the two trees that are an exception have a special relationship to him (17); animals and birds are created so that man give them names (19); woman is made as man's helper (21). Interestingly, Genesis 1 refers to the "heavens and the earth" (1:1; 2:4a), while Genesis 2 has the opposite sequence: "the earth and the heavens" (4b). This is significant, for the remainder of chapter two the emphasis is on the earth and man's place in it. Genesis two makes no mention of light, firmament, sun, moon, stars–parts of the heavens; rather it concerns the earth, the garden, trees, rivers, animals, birds, and man and his ... Hermeneutics is the science of interpretation and it functions alongside exegesis which is the process of understanding what a particular text meant in its original context. Exegesis would most likely be compared to the hashtag speak in today's society. While some Catholics believe that exegesis is not as important as simplistic, devotional reading, it is quite significant in respect to its relationship to hermeneutics. Genesis chapter one through eleven are known as the Primeval History because they recount the foundational event in the history of Israel before recorded making. As a result these stories cannot be historically verified therefore belonging the genre known as Myth. As so, Genesis 8 is of the Myth genre. • 51. Comparing Genesis And The Flood Story Of Genesis Vs.... Throughout human existence, different cultures share stories that may have many meanings; from explaining why mankind exists to how a hero defeats a forest monster. Two well known stories are Genesis and Gilgamesh. Both stories contain a part where there is a flood that wipes out mankind. Although two different stories, the flood story from Genesis and the flood story from Gilgamesh share a plethora of similarities that connect the two stories. Some key similarities include the cause of the flood, the animals on the boat, and the way of how each hero in the two stories find dry land. Firstly, the reason for the floods in both stories involve the wiping out of mankind. In the story of Genesis, God believed the mankind became lawless. "The Lord saw how great was man's wickedness on earth, and how every plan devised by his mind was nothing but evil all the time." (Genesis). Although God created mankind, the actions of them did not please him and he no longer believed they were worthy living on earth any longer, which concluded him creating a massive flood to wipe them out. In comparison, the flood story in Gilgamesh shares a similar storyline. The gods believed that the humans were too loud and wild; resulting to their lack of sleep. "In those days the world teemed, the people multiplied, the world bellowed like a wild bull, and the great god was aroused by the clamour." (The Story of the Flood). With one concern having in mind about whether evolution happened or not, perhaps Genesis has a hidden message about this topic. In the beginning of chapter two of Genesis, it starts by God creating the first man and woman and placing them in the garden of Eden. God told Adam and Eve that they can eat from any tree and plant they want, but except the fruits from the tree of knowledge. At some time, a snake described as "the most intelligent of all the wild animals" appeared and told Eve that probably the reason why the Lord didn't allowed anyone to eat the fruits because they will "see clearly and.. will be like God, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3)." Eve, thinking the tree of knowledge will provide her wisdom, eats the fruit as well her husband Adam. As a result, humanity till now suffers the consequences of Adam and Eve as same with the snake, it was known as an intelligent animal to a cursed one. This allegory in Genesis warns humanity about "too much knowledge". For example, the snake was known as the most intelligent creature, but yet it was the cause of the downfall of Adam and Eve. • 55. The Book of Genesis The book of Genesis tells the story of the beginning of the world. Genesis answers some of life's biggest questions– why are we here, how did everything come to be, how do I relate to others around me. Through this story, God's unchanging nature is revealed. We are exposed to man's shortcomings and failures, but we are also offered the hope of one to come who will be the savior of all. The first eleven chapters of Genesis provide a foundation for a Biblical worldview– an explanation of how a Christian should view the natural world, human identity, human relationships, and civilization. Genesis 1 begins with the creation of the earth. God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. He saw everything he had made and "it was very good". God created man and woman in his image. In this way, God made human beings higher than every other creature. He gave them dominion over the earth and every living thing on it. Genesis 2:15 says, "He placed the man in the garden to cultivate and keep it". This is why we as humans ought to take care of the Earth. We pollute the earth and neglect to care for what God has given us dominion over– what God has created to bring him glory. Being good stewards of the earth not only protects the natural environment and animals on the earth, but also all the other people that God created. Pollution has the most negative impact on the poor, and we know from scripture that we are to care for the least powerful of people. Therefore, we know ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book of Genesis is usually the chapter that most Christians know as the creation story of all humans and living creatures. As it says in Genesis chapter one, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning–the first day" (New International Version). This is the start to how God created everything on that very first day. These chapters seem to give humans an idea of both the origins of the universe, and the God who originated it. The idea of creation, how the Earth was created, and how humans came into existence is not a subject only Christians think about. It has been debated upon; also argued within and throughout multiple religions as well such as Judaism. When it comes to evangelicals, however, there have been many interpretations. This leads into the debate on Genesis and creation. As an Evangelical, you believe that there is one God who created life and the world we live in. More specifically, examples of this arise in the stories pertaining to Adam and Eve, Noah, Cain and Abel, and Jonah and the people of Nineveh. Noah as well as Jonah and the people of Nineveh show numerous examples of acting on God's plans and desires in a positive way, while the other examples contrast this and provide instances where God's desires are not followed. Although there are those who choose not to follow His desires, the instances where His desires are followed hold the utmost focus and importance because they represent God's plan coming to fruition through His creation. Beginning with the Book of Genesis, as God has completed His creation, He explains what He desires for the people that will reside on it and how he wants them to fulfill His creation. He explains, "Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness" (Gen. 1:26). These words from God present the idea that He wants to be one with His people and that He wants them to be alike to Him. However, His people will go on to show that while they are created in His image and likeness, they exhibit flaws and behaviors that are not associated with God. Another ... • 61. The Similarities Of The Flood Characters Of Gilgamesh And... Though Gilgamesh and Genesis are completely different stories, they both contain flood narratives that have similarities and differences within each. The three comparable points in these texts deal with the gods and heroes of the stories. First the gods in these narratives all have a specific reason behind their decision to wipe out mankind. Second the unique characteristics of the heroes or survivors of the flood are shown throughout the events of the texts. Finally the gods who bring these floods upon earth all reveal their qualities through their actions against humanity. These three topics relate from one book to another in many ways. Before each of the floods there are reasons that each god decides to eliminate the people on earth. In Gilgamesh the god Enlil chooses to destroy humanity with a flood because it is the best way to get rid of the individuals who have sinned. After the flood the god Ea says "Let him who has performed an evil act be punished for that act. Let not the flood be brought down on the heads of all for what one man has done..."(Ferry 74). This statement shows how Enlil punished all of mankind when most of them weren't to blame. On the contrary, in Genesis Gods motive for destroying humanity with a flood is that the world was turning evil and cruel, which was not what God intended. God's thoughts are shown through the following quote "The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his ... • 63. The Book Of Genesis The book of Genesis which directly translates to "origin" narrates the story of creation. In general, Genesis 1–3 is an account of how God created the world, human beings, plants and animals, and the commitment of the first sin. Unlike Malakas and Maganda who sprang from the kawayan at the same time, a hierarchy of genders can be found in Genesis. The second chapter of the book tells us that man was created first and was given the primary role to take care of God's creation associated with a sense of authority. The woman was created after and out of man himself to fulfill the role of being the man's helper or companion and thus it can be inferred in this account alone that the woman is subjected to a secondary and subordinate position. While the Creation, on the other hand, is entitled to bring holiness towards its Creator that highlights the importance of Sabbath on the seventh day when God decided to rest. Human beings embody the relationship of God and Creation through the act of stewardship. The whole relationship among God, Human Beings, and the Creation exemplify the central idea of Genesis which is "Shalom". Shalom is defined as peace in the Old Testament but it also denotes "wholeness" or "harmony". Every part of God's creation is distinct but interconnected, working and existing in accordance with God's intention. Shalom summarizes the whole picture depicted in the first two chapters of Genesis, describing the connections among God, human beings, and the rest of His creation; the role of humans is to preserve Shalom that transcends beyond stewardship. ... • 65. The Book Of Genesis The Book of Genesis starts by telling us how God created the Heavens and the earth, day and night, skies and sea, animals, man, and woman. The book of Genesis tells us of God's plan for humanity, the nature of God as our creator, the value of the human life. Genesis answers some of life's questions. Why are we here? How did everything come to be? We are told about man's shortcomings and failures, but we are offered hope. In the story of Adam and Eve, we learn about the consequences of disobedience when Eve listens to the serpent and disobeys God's commands not to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree of knowledge of good and evil. A good question to ask is what was the serpent doing? Was he calling into question God's trustworthiness? Adam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Remembering the punishment for Adam when he disobeyed God was that after the fall he would have to work the ground with intensive labor now (Gen 3:17–19), and it would take the "sweat of your brow" from this point forward. Cain was angered by this, and perhaps in a jealous rage, he killed his brother Abel (Gen 4:8). When God asked Cain where his brother was Able answered with "Am I my brother's keeper?" (Gen 4:9) Why did God ask Cain this? He surely had to know what had happened. God knows what we do, what is in our hearts, what we think, and say. I believe that God asked Cain this question in hopes that Cain would repent and ask for forgiveness for what he had done. The Lord put a mark on Cain to warn everyone not to kill him "Anyone who kills you will be punished seven times worse than I am punishing you" (Gen 4:15) and he was driven from his family and home. Cain's curse was harsh but was it God's ultimate punishment? God's wrath is always mixed with love and grace. God put on 'mark' on Cain, while we have no idea what or where this mark was placed, Cain had God's protection. That only God could or would bring punishment on Cain. If anybody harmed him God would bring his wrath "sevenfold" on that person. God is merciful, and he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Genesis 1 Vs. Genesis For thousands of years, people have read and examined the stories of creation and Genesis from the Hebrew Bible. Genesis contains two different stories of creation. These are commonly known as Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 which contain very similar details but in different orders. Genesis 1 begins with the creation of heaven and earth while Genesis 2 begins with the creation of man, Adam. Both these stories have immense importance. However, what would be different if there was only version of events? If there was only one version of creation that could be published, Genesis 1 would be best because of the series of events, man and woman being created at the same time, and the similarity to the secular view of creation. Genesis 1 begins with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Genesis : The Beginning Genesis: The Beginning Genesis is considered to be one of the stepping stones of Christianity that tries to explore the world according to the analogy explained through scriptures, relating all the living and non–living being to the almighty. Genesis gives way to the rise of purity and tries to explore the motive that God has behind each and every action. One of the core aspects of Genesis is its idea of beginning. The beginning that leads to everything. In Genesis, one of the beginning is the beginning of the earth and universe. It is important to keep in mind that through the creation of the universe and the earth, the Almighty has displayed his limitless power and wisdom. The perfect balance that can be seen in Mother Nature is a true reflection of God's unfathomable authority and supreme power. At the same time, it also comes with great significance to the human beings since without the creation of the universe and earth, there would be no living beings here who would recognize the might and glory of God. The beginning of earth and the universe started a universal system which roles through and leads us to a point where we gradually begin to understand the significance of all the things that can be seen around us. With the beginning of the universe and earth, it is more like a beginning of life created by God. It also carries great significance since through the scriptures we know that everything that begins leads to an end. So at the end of the whole circle, God will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. The Creation Of Genesis : Genesis And Genesis Genesis Genesis is also known as the first book of the Pentateuch written by Moses and it signifies the beginning of when God had first created the Heavens and Earth. The book is divided into two parts; the first describes the events of mankind including the time of the Dispersion, and the second gives a history about Israel and the death of Joseph. "The Fall" "The Fall" is a term used by Christians to explain the process in which the first man and woman moved from a state of innocent obedience to God to a state of guilty obedience. This transition occurs once they eat the forbidden fruit after being tempted by the serpent. Lot and his wife The story of Lot and his wife first starts off when two angels arrive in Sodom and are invited to spend the night in their home. When dawn arrives, the wife is warned by the angels to leave to avoid a future disaster. After Lot has delayed his family's departure, the two angels take him, his wife, and two daughters and fly them to safety. Here they command, "Flee for your life! Do not look behind you, nor stop anywhere in the Plain; flee to the hills, lest you be swept away." As the angels bring Lot and his family to a nearby town, later known as Zoar, his wife looks back and turns into a pillar of salt. Her transformation was thought to have occurred because when she looks back, she shows her inner desire to live her life back in the "evil cities", and therefore deemed unworthy to be saved. • 73. Genesis Essay The first verb in the Bible is "create." Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Throughout all of the Old Testament, only God creates. Goldingay claims, "creating involves exercising an extraordinary, effortless sovereignty in order to bring something into being." Modern readers connect creation to God at the beginning of the world and with the creation of animals and people. Genesis 1:24–31 explains the sixth day of Creation. This was the day God created people. The day begins with God creating living creatures of three kinds: cattle, reptiles, and wild animals. They God made male and female in His image and likeness. He then blessed humankind giving them the task of procreation and dominion over all of the earth. Everything that God created, He gave to man. Finally, God looked upon all that He saw and realized that it was good. While the reader could simply read this passage and have a basic understanding of it, the original Hebrew words can give more clarity to what the text truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Hebrew word that is translated into "image" is tselem or selem. It has various meanings, but within the context of Genesis, the best definition is that of likeness or resemblance. Through the whole Old Testament, there are a few times where "selem describes an idolatrous image that is to be destroyed." Furthermore, there are times in the Psalms where selem is used in a less concrete way. In Psalm 39:7, selem parallels hebel which means "vanity." Coupled with this, Psalm 73:20 selem parallels "dream." From this, it can be concluded that "if selem in these two texts is the same word used in Genesis and in the passages cited above, then it may be used for purposes other than describing the physical imitation of something." In this case, the second definition of image as "mere, empty, semblance" could apply. This would imply that there is emptiness, unreality, or insubstantiality in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Comparing The Creation And The Story Of Genesis And Genesis In the sacred scripture of both the Bible or the Hebrew Tanakh, the first two chapters of Genesis consist of both the Creation, and the story of Adam and Eve. Despite one story being ordained to one and another. Both the Creation, and the story of Adam and Eve can be compared on both their similarities, the way how both stories can connect, and finally by their differences on connecting their stories. When the author was writing the first chapter of Genesis, the author emphasized densely on the creation of the world and how he wanted to show the creation of the humanity. By stating "In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth" (Genesis 1:1), later in the chapter, the statement that was written in Genesis 1:1 would help transit to a new chapter in Genesis 2:4 which is the story of Adam and Eve. As Genesis 2:4 states "This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made heaven and the earth"(Genesis 2:4), the transition from Genesis 1:1 to Genesis 2:4 showed the similarity on how the chapter started, by stating how God created the heaven and the earth on the first day, and how in Adam and Eve the author stated how the world was created by the creator himself as stated from the Bible Study Tool, "None but the Creator himself could give this information, and therefore it is through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God"(Hebrew 11:3, BST). • 77. Purpose Of Genesis This analysis will serve the purpose of analyzing Genesis chapter one, two, and three as well as Romans chapters one, two, and three. The author will incorporate various connections between the chapters read and, will also, make applications on how families, churches, or society can use these verses in their lives. Background Information The author would say that the background to the creation story is one of the easier ones to grasp. Simply because: that is when the world began. I would hope that, as a Christian in a Christian school, this is not a mind blowing conclusion. According to Alex Varughese (2006), "The book of Genesis is the first book of the Torah or the Pentateuch" (pg. 64). The meaning of the book of Genesis means as it sounds; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christians were set apart until the sin of Adam and Eve. After the sin, Christians no longer had the easy way out. Christians have to work hard, not only on work, but also in their presentation of Christianity. The second connection to the sin of Adam and Eve would be the list that is given in Romans of all the sin that the people of Rome are committing. It is no coincidence that worse and worse consequences to sin have come about since the fall of man. "There is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away they have together become worthless; there is not one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit, the poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is not fear of God before their eyes" (Romans 3:11–18, New International Version). The most prominent correlation between Genesis and Romans would be that sin is worse than it was at the fall of man and just as Adam and Eve sinned; man is still sinning. No longer is their simply disobedience; now there is a list of the sins that man is committing and willingly displaying for anyone to see. Adam and Eve were trying to hide their sins, the people of Rome are sinning for full ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
