Pandemic Death Monologue
Pandemic Death So It started when I was young about nine years of age and it was early in the year
1350. It started a little like this, there was a knock on the door and I got up to go see who it was.
When I opened the door there was a man on his horse. The man asked my parents were home, they
were, so I said I could go and get them. Once I had gotten my parents the man asked if they are
willing to go on a trip through the sea to Kwillining, London. They said they would, so they put in
there few overalls and dirty old jeans into a small waggon that are going to have to hall 46 miles to
get to the ship. I have two brothers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her mother had just died of plague and Elizabeth needed somewhere to go so, I invited her over.
Brett said,''
We all went inside and ate some soup. Once we were done we told each other a little about what we
liked to do for fun. After that we drew things in the dirt. WE were having so much fun
together...Until there was a deep voice outside our door.
The voice was booming, dark, and scary. They then suddenly I saw the door split in two. A man
about twice the height as me then thundered in. The man started rambling on about how everyone is
dieing and that the world was going to end. I noticed there were swollen oval shaped things the size
of an apple.
The man then asked,'' I've traveled a long way and i'm so tired of seeing dead bodies everywhere I
go I was also wondering if I could sit a while here. Just about everyone is dead around here.''
I told him he could stay a while and I got him some fresh water. The man said he would replace our
door and he was very sorry for hacking it down.
He got up and was getting ready to leave when he fell to the floor weakly and started coughing up
blood. We knew exactly what this meant. He had the

Creative Story : A Short Story
One day this little girl was at school and school ended in about 10 minutes so she just sat there and
drawn for 10 minutes. So after the bell rang she ran outside for her parents but her parents weren't
there and neither was her best friend's parents were there either. So the little girl and her friend just
sat there and talked for about 15 minutes for their parents to come. So while they were talking her
friend brought up the little girl going to her house when her parents got there.
So there parents got there finally and the little girl asked her parents "can I go to my best friend's
house". Her parents said "no". Then the little girl was going to ask why but she knew that they were
going to say "because I said so now stop asking". So she just sat in the back seat and she shut her
mouth. So when she got home she marched to her room and slammed her door. She started to cry
and she got angry because she could not go to her friends and she has never been to her friends ever.
So first the little girl lies to her parents and says she is studying but she locks her door. Next the little
girl sneaks out of her house. Then the little girl tracks herself in the snow. Then her parents follow
her tracks. Her parents figured out that she is at her friends house. Last her parents pound on the
front door.
So they bestfriends parents open the door and they see the mad look on the little girls face. The best
friends parents call the little girl and the little girl came and

The Boston Fbi Field Office Building
The room was filled with chatter and arguments. The mass murder that was happening in the states
of the New England region was the center of the discussion in the Boston FBI field office building.
Officer Alecia Harrison was sitting silently in the room while the roars of the others burdened her
ears. It was a late night and the agents were talking all at once about their opinions on the situation.
She sighed, looked around the room and shouted over the silence for everyone to be quiet. The
individuals in the room grew silent as they looked at the young woman who had just interrupted
their banter. "Listen, this isn't helping the situation. We need to come together and figure out a lead,"
explained Alecia. "The only information we have is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She felt a chill run down her spine as she had a sense that someone was watching her from afar.
Slowly turning to look behind her, she looked out in the distance of the woods by her house. When
she felt certain that no one was there she proceeded the rest of the way to her front door.
The young woman opened up her door and immediately felt that sense of uneasiness again even
though her home was full of light. She could hear the water running in the bathroom and figured that
her boyfriend, James, was just taking his usual night shower. She went into the kitchen to get a
quick drink of water. As she drank the cool liquid she felt an immense feeling of relief. She
advanced toward the bathroom. She walked down the hallway heading towards the closed bathroom
door. Alecia felt a sense of panic and anxiety when she felt her foot become slightly submerged in a
liquid on the floor.
She flung the bathroom door open and felt her throat tighten at the scene. Her loving boyfriend was
laying in the bathtub clearly dead with the water overflowing over the sides of the tub. His eyes
were glazed over, looking almost made out of glass, and his skin had started to become discolored.
Letting out a guttural scream, she ran to the side of the tub and tried to lift him out. However, she
knew it was too late and he was too heavy for her to lift. She sunk to the wet floor with tears falling
from her eyes as she turned off

A Transformation from Gracious to Malicious
Most people are kind at heart, but society's negative perceptions changes them. Mary Shelley's
novel, Frankenstein, portrays this concept. Frankenstein's monster treats humans kindly – refuting
the stereotype that all monsters are evil. In this novel, the monster is kind towards mankind until
society criticizes him and turns him into a malicious creature. The monster that Frankenstein creates
has kind–hearted morals, but because society harms him based on his hideous appearance. Because
of his treatment, he transforms into a murderous monster, pointing to the destructive power of
societal criticism.
Society rapidly judges the monster and forms opinions based on his outside appearance rather than
his internal intentions. After creating the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The feelings of kindness and gentleness which I had entertained but a few moments before gave
place to hellish rage and gnashing of teeth...I vowed eternal hatred and vengeance to all mankind"
(Shelley 168). The monster's use of the words "destruction", "miserable pain", "hellish rage",
"eternal hatred", and "vengeance to all mankind" strongly portray his detestation towards all
mankind. The monster showed "benevolence, "kindness", and "gentleness", but instead he receives a
bad reaction from mankind in return. From the novel Horror, Michael Stuprich writes, "Sympathy
and antipathy are our crucial responses... Frankenstein tells us that our sympathies, our antipathies,
can be wrong. This applies massively to the monster himself (who is rejected instantly, by
everybody, purely because of his 'hideous' appearance)...as if to show that...just monsters suffer from
this unfair fate". (Stuprich 118) The monster's unfair fate illustrates the monster's appearance and
how this appearance leads to his demise. Everyone portrays a monster as an ugly, vicious creature.
Because of the monster's ugly appearance, society judges and shuns the monster, even though he is
good–natured. People make mistaken judgments of others based upon appearance. They think they
can trust their senses, but this is not always correct. A bias equating ugly and evil turns people
against the monster, which causes the monster

Dubliners ' By James Joyce
Dubliners, is a book in which James Joyce takes his readers back to early 20th century Dublin.
Joyce 's collection of short stories portrays his homeland, Ireland, at a time of stagnation and the
beginning of the Irish Nationalist Movements, which sought independence from Great Britain. With
such dependence, Ireland and its citizens ' lives could not move forward and to enliven this
condition in his book Joyce use three great concepts. In the first short story Joyce mentions the
words gnomon, simony, and paralysis, and by doing so he foreshadows the themes of every story
and how they are a close description of Dublin at that time. Joyce use the concept of gnomon to
typify incompleteness, disconnection, and being in the shadow of someone or something, which is a
important theme in his book about the empty and incomplete lives of the Irish. Before meeting the
odd old man, the boys decided to skip school and go looking for adventures like in the Wild West,
and the narrator tells: But when the restraining influence of the school was at a distance I began to
hunger again for wild sensations, for the escape which those chronicles of disorder alone seemed to
offer me. The mimic warfare of the evening became at last as wearisome to me as the routine of
school in the morning because I wanted real adventures to happen to myself. But real adventures, I
reflected, do not happen to people who remain at home: they must be sought abroad. ("An
Encounter" 13) Their

Roles of Women in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
In "Frankenstein" penned by Mary Shelley, one cannot help but notice the role of women in the
novel compared to men. Even though Mary Shelley is the daughter of Mary Wollstonecraft, a
mother advocating for women's rights in society, she displays the roles of Caroline, Elizabeth, and
Justine as passive women. This may be the time period when women were considered inferior to
men. Caroline, Elizabeth, and Justine are depicted as possessions by men, admired for their
superficial beauty, and do not take action without the permission of men. On the other hand, Shelley
illustrates Safie as a woman who speaks up for her own rights when her father forbids her to find
Felix. The three points that contribute greatly to the passive role of women are ... Show more

Elizabeth desires to understand how Victor is doing in college. However, as Victor's possession,
Elizabeth can only visit Victor under the approval of Victor's father. Also, in another letter that
Elizabeth writes to Victor while Victor is in England, Elizabeth asks Victor if he has fallen in love
with another woman. Elizabeth points out, "Tell me, dearest Victor. Answer me, I conjure you, by
our mutual happiness, with simple truth – Do you love another" (Shelley 166). Due to Victor's lack
in response to Elizabeth's letters, Elizabeth becomes worried about her love for Victor. Although
Elizabeth comprehends her love for Victor during her childhood years, she has no right to prevent
Victor to fall in love with another woman. Elizabeth's role as Victor's possession illustrates how only
Victor can choose whether he wants Elizabeth or the other woman.
Similarly, Justine displays her passivity when she cannot prove her innocence for the murder of
William Frankenstein. In the article, "The Ghost of a Self", Vanessa Dickerson describes Justine as,
"an innocent, sensitive, beautiful, and loving servant who is unjustly executed for the murder of
little William Frankenstein" (85). Justine desires to prove her innocence, but as a household servant
in the Frankenstein family, only Victor's appearance in court will prove her innocence. Elizabeth
also wants to prove Justine's innocence. However, as Victor's possession, Elizabeth's stance of
Justine's innocence is also

I waited a few minutes to get over it and I started to look around for a first aid kit to analysis my
wounded shoulder. I crawled out in the field about ten feet and grabbed a medic pack but when I
lifted it up it was empty. The next one I saw was about 15 yards away.I crawled to that medic kit and
then crawled back into the wounds after I checked to see if it was full. When I tore open my shirt the
wound had been much worse than I had thought.I used my other arm to reach around and feel if
there was a bullet exit. I found that there was a bullet exit but it had shattered my bone and my arm
was almost completely dead. I fixed it the best I could by myself and with what I had. I just wrapped
the wound up. Next I got up and went into the woods to search for the group of Americans that I was

needed to retreat. I went out looking for our camp since we had all had to remember where the camp

against a tree about to go to sleep when I saw a light coming my way. I watched it a minute and I

Breakaway Fire : A Short Story : The Story Of A Story
I was down at the Breakaway Bar with my cousins, Frank Many Horses and Lester Fallsapart,
telling many stories –even though no one actually listens to what I have to say until they hear
something they may find a bit interesting. All of a sudden we heard sirens. Everyone around here
gets excited about it. The sirens mean that we can take action and be a hero, so Lester, Frank, and I
are started to make our way to the place that was ablaze. As soon as we got to the scene of the fire
we had realized that it was Rosemary MorningDove's home. Frank ManyHorses, who is rumored to
be the father of her son, immediately knew that James was in the home. James immediately ran into
the home to save James. By the time that Frank was able to reach him there was no way that they
could have made it out alive, so Frank threw him out of the window while assuming that someone
was there to catch him.
I ran, galloping toward James and the burning building. I could not help but break free, let my wings
spread and go diving in for the baby boy. Unfortunately, just as I dived for the child As he fell into
my arms it felt as if I had known him for a lifetime. It was as if we had a past– in which we would
exchange our stories and tell them all to the young children. It seemed as though I had known him as
a man who spent his time lecturing others and making it a point to let others know of what was
going on in the world. Of course no body would ever believe me if I told them that James was one

Is Discrimination Killing America?
Is Discrimination Killing America? Eric Brene once said, "The moment a little boy is concerned
with which is a jay and which is a sparrow, he can no longer see the birds or hear them sing." This
quote is not only powerful and alarming but it too can shed some light on the situation here in
America regarding discrimination. Discrimination is a plague of society that has cast a shadow over
this country and has caused tension among us in the process. The question remains: is discrimination
killing America? Discrimination is defined as, "treatment or consideration of, or making a
distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which
that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit," (Dictionary.com 1). This debate over
whether or not discrimination is killing America is more prevalent now than ever, with the case of
Ahmed Mohamed. Ahmed Mohamed was simply a 14–year–old student, who brought an invention
that he worked so hard and diligently to produce into school, and ended up in prison. The reason as
to why he was put in handcuffs and taken from school: a clock. A homemade clock in which he
made, and brought into school to show one of his teachers, caused Ahmed to be arrested. There is
heavy debate as to whether or not the clock did look a bomb, but without a shadow of a doubt, that
the clock was labeled as a bomb due to Ahmed's nationality. This raises a concern that this country
is on a downwards spiral regarding

James Monroe And The American Revolution
James Monroe, born in Westmoreland County, Virginia, to Spence Monroe and his wife Elizabeth
Jones Monroe, was a very prominent man in history. James Monroe was also a very ambitious man
who would, at most times, be a potential rival to many of his close companions in the presidential
elections. He was the seventh Secretary of State, served as a member of the Congress of the
Confederation, served as a U.S. Senator, served as the governor of Virginia, and was the fifth U.S.
president. Monroe also served as the Secretary of War during the War of 1812. James Monroe was
very active in the American Revolution, and, even later after the war was over, he was very active in
politics. He traveled many times often to foreign countries dealing with affairs concerning various
treaties to help keep the peace between countries or expand countries. James Monroe was born on
April 28, in 1758 to Spence Monroe and his wife Elizabeth Jones Monroe. Spence Monroe was a
prosperous planter who also practice carpentry. James Monroe 's mother was of Welsh heritage, and
his father 's ancestry could be traced to a relative who fought in the English Civil Wars alongside
Charles I. This relative was later captured and exiled to Virginia from England. James Monroe was
homeschooled with his other siblings by his mother until the age of eleven. After he was
homeschooled, Monroe attended Campbell Town Academy, which was run by Reverend Archibald
Campbell. At Campbell Town Academy, James Monroe

he looked nervous. Josie and Robert, the parents, traded Amy for the carry on bag then Josie sat

1965 Voting Rights Act
I think there were many events that helped the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act to pass some I
would not characterize as fortunate.
I would point out that Television was now in people's homes, news came more instantaneous than
before, the death of a young black man named Jimmie Lee Jackson's, and Bloody Sunday.
The first event that leads us to Selma is the encounter with Sheriff Jim Clark who on the town hall
steps stops blacks from entering the building thus not allowing them to register to vote. This event
leads the Sheriff to club a black man on the steps of city hall making him fall down and what
appears to be him now unconscious on the ground. This was all filmed by a news organization.

I am not saying going to school is a bad thing, but it shouldn't be organized in a way of
programming children. Disconnecting them from themselves; pulling them apart like string cheese.
Without peace within, you cannot accomplish peace outside. Gandhi once said, " If we want to reach
real peace in this world, we should start educating children." When he says this I don't envision he
means a classroom full of innocent children being programmed with math, reading, writing and the
sciences. How many students are actually going to benefit from knowing how to transform a
parabola? Yes, those things are important. However, a child's mental health overrules by far. When I
read that quote I see a classroom full of children playing, having fun, and learning to discover
themselves through making friendships. How can a child genuinely learn anything about themselves
and the earth they walk on if their little heads are constantly being crammed full of academics? They
can't, and this system is twisted. Through my experience, I would say high school is most guilty of
this corrupt system. Although, you can begin to watch it arise starting in elementary school. As I
move my way up the ladder into community college, I feel like I'm being allowed to slowly breathe
again. Although not yet entirely, the feeling of being trapped is fading away. Hopefully, my journey
will continue to present this freedom. Going to a larger 4–year university or college is not in my

Federalist Papers : The Federalist Paper

The Federalist Papers
The Federalist Papers Ten and Fifty–One were the ideal papers written by Madison to support
th¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬e ratification of the Constitution. Out of all the federalist papers, these are two of the
most important federalist papers. So what were the federalist papers? They were 85 essays written
by three gentlemen: Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay that explained particular
provisions of the Constitution in detail. Alexander Hamilton goes on to be the first treasury
secretary, James Madison goes on to be the fourth president and John Jay the first chief justice in US
history. So what was the purpose of these papers? Well, they were written to gain support for the US
Constitution, especially in New York. While many people might see it as inevitable, the Constitution
was a revolutionary step. Because of the revolutionary nature of the new constitution, arguments
were necessary to rationalize it. Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Virginia, and New York were the
states critical to the success or failure of the Constitution. Of these four states, New York by far was
the state where the success of the constitution was in the most doubt. Quickly, Alexander Hamilton
decided that a massive propaganda campaign was necessary in New York, more than in any other
state. So with the help of James Madison and John Jay, he published several essays in different
newspapers in New York. There is really little

Mary Shelley 's Frankenstein
Intro:
"I was dependent on none and related to none. The path of my departure was free, and there was
none to lament my annihilation... What did this mean? Who was I? What was I? Whence did I
come? What was my destination? These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve
them (Mary Shelley's Frankenstein)."
Mary Shelley's book, Frankenstein, parallels her own experiences. Shelley's mother died in
childbirth, and she was left "dependent on none and related to none." Her father, William Godwin,
abandoned his daughter emotionally when he remarried a woman who treated Mary poorly. Shelley
often searched for an understanding of who she was. She did not have a mother to give her an
education, so Mary taught herself by seeking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clare and Shelley both use negative diction, juxtaposing extreme terminology within the same
sentence, and long, rambling sentences within their writings. John Clare and Mary Shelley's use of
similar stylistic devices illustrates how loneliness makes one turn to death, either suicidal or
murderous, due to humans' innate need to be connected to others; without a connection, isolation
creates insurmountable suffering.

Clare, the author of I am, and Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, both use despondent diction to
represent the agony of loneliness; ultimately forewarning the reader that without love, one's
existence is lifeless and leads to doom and destruction. When Shelley uses terms like "catastrophe"
or "wretch" to describe the creation of the monster, she refers to the physical appearance of the
creature, and the emotional turmoil of Victor Frankenstein and the creature, as well. The monster is
abandoned by Frankenstein due to his hideous stature. Shelley plays with contrasts such as the
creature's mouth, whose teeth are "pearly white" but whose lips are "black". The eyes, which
ironically are the windows to man's emotions, are colorless. The hair is "lustrous", almost sensual,
but the complexion is "shrivelled", like an elderly man on his death bed. She juxtaposes Victor's
arrogance of having the brilliance to create a gift reserved to G–d, with his deliverance of the devil.
When Shelley says that the skin "scarcely" covers

Analysis Of Mary Shelley 's ' Frankenstein '
English 102

Creature's Argument
In the novel, Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, the Creature 's only need is for a female companion,
which he asks Victor Frankenstein his maker to create. Shelley shows the argument between the
creature and Frankenstein. The creature says: "I demand a creature of another sex, but as hideous as
myself" (Shelley 139). Shelley shows what the creature wants from Frankenstein and what his needs
are. Shelley gives us an idea of the sympathy that Frankenstein might feel for the creature even
though he neglects him. The creature confronts Victor demanding his attention and expressing his
needs. I feel a lot of sympathy for the creature based on him being able to forgive Victor for
abandoning him and being able to communicate with him. Victor Frankenstein has created a creature
so vile and horrid looking that neither man nor woman can look upon it without fear or loathing.
While living in a cave the creature had a chance to observe and learn about the comfort of
togetherness. For the first time, after meeting the blind man, he is able to have a human being talk
with him without screaming or rejecting him. He is so desperate he asks the blind man for him and
his family to save him from his loneliness and aloneness. When the family comes in and sees the
creature one faints and the others have the same rejection and horror in their faces and responses.
The creature realizes that he will never have someone to care

The Scarlet Ibis Analysis
James Hurst is the author of the heart breaking short story entitled "The Scarlet Ibis". "The Scarlet
Ibis" is a short story about two brothers; one brother is healthy, while the other is physically
handicapped. The short story is centered on the idea that the older, healthier brother's selfishness and
pride ultimately led to the death of his younger brother, Doodle. Numerous quotes throughout the
story demonstrate Hurst's use of symbolism and foreshadowing to portray and predict Doodle's
untimely and heartbreaking death. The Scarlet Ibis bird symbolizes Doodle; this symbolism can be
seen by the authors description of both Doodle's and the Scarlet Ibis's appearance after death. After
the Scarlet Ibis fell from the bleeding tree his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hurst's diction at the beginning of the short story foreshadows the later death of Doodle. Hurst starts
by setting a gloomy scene as the narrator is speaking. The narrator, Doodle's old brother, soon states,
"But sometimes, as I sit in the cool...I remember Doodle" (Hurst 1). Hurst uses the word
"remember" to emphasize the fact that Doodle is no long around. Readers do not know what
happened to Doodle, but begin to suspect the answer. In the next paragraph the narrator says,
"Doodle was just about the craziest brother a boy ever had" (Hurst 1). In this quote, Hurst uses past
tense words such as "was" and "had" to once again show that this was in the past. Hurst's word
choices foreshadow Doodle's death and sparks interest in the readers at the very beginning.
Foreshadowing is used at the beginning of the story to draw readers into the story and help keep
their interest.
Hurst utilizes foreshadowing to demonstrate how the brother's selfishness and pride leads to the
death of Doodle. Not long after Doodle was born, the mother explains to the brother that Doodle
might be mentally handicapped as well as physically handicapped. The brother could not accept the
fact that his brother is different, so he "began to make plans to kill him [Doodle] by smothering him
in his sleep" (Hurst 1). From the very beginning, Doodle's brother is unable to except the fact that
his brother is not normal and never will be. His selfishness and pride leads him to want to kill

Descriptive Essay On The Curse
"The Curse Which Still Lived"
It was a depressing and grey afternoon. James had just turned twenty–five, and as adventurous as he
was, he anxiously waited for a task. Next thing he knew, he has found himself scrolling on an LED
screen which entranced him as if he knew nothing more. There he sat, alone in his dusty old room
looking through various websites for interesting locations near him. His fingers stopped with a jerk.
A picture of a castle intrigued him as he stared at the blinding screen. The location was on an island
north of Canada, only about an hour and a half from his hometown near Nunavut. Four words
caught his eyes underneath the section titled "Description". " The curse never dies," it wrote. This
didn't deter James in the slightest. The next morning James pulled himself out of bed and got ready.
The day was bright and warm with very few clouds in the sky; the fresh scents of summer filled his
nostrils as he prepared to embark on this adventure. For one hour and thirty minutes James drove
through the constant stretch of road until he reached something. It was a boat ramp, but something
was off. The ramp had been consumed by the elements of nature and time and floating near the ramp
was an old wooden paddle boat engraved with the words "Katherine Rogers" on the side. It seemed
to have been there only a couple weeks. James carefully boarded the small paddle boat and made his
way north, where at a distance, a island could be spotted with a castle–like structure

Personal Narrative : A Short Story : The Story Of Tortillas
"Wake up, put shoes on and come downstairs to eat," my grandmother says as she's opening the
curtains in my room. As she walks out the room, she turns around and says "Do you want tortillas
with your chorizo and frijoles so I can heat a couple up." Even though she leaves the room without
my answer, in her head, already knowing my answer.
I put on a pair of jeans and walk downstairs into the dining room, there was a plate with frijoles,
chorizo and tortillas waiting for me. My grandmother brings me my favorite drink, homemade
chocolate milk. I sit down and across from me is my cousin Lesly. She was bored, she always was.
"Do you want to go to the park? The sun is shining and there's a cool breeze out," my cousin says as
she puts on her shoes.
"Yes," I say. "It sounds fun. I quickly go upstairs to put on shorts.
I come back downstairs and we both head out the door. The park is just around the corner of our
house so it's only a five minute walk.
While we were walking, my cousin turns to me and says, "Hey I have ten pesos so after we're done
playing we can go to the mini store and buy ourselves ice cream?"
"Yes," I say in an excited tone.
We arrive at the park, but we had no clue what to do there. I look around and notice a tree. I turn to
my cousin and say, "Hey we should climb it!"
"Yes, let's go," Lesly says as she pulls my arm towards the tree. Lesly grabs me by my feet to help

Most of us don't appreciate what we have and despise those who have what we can't afford.
Growing up, my parents rarely denied me new toys, but subconsciously, I knew I should not ask for
unnecessary items. Up to this day, I don't remember a time when I bought something without asking
myself multiple times, "How much do I really need this?" This is because my family has never been
in a financial position in which we could afford anything and everything we wanted. Just like Mark
Twain said, "I am opposed to millionaires, but it would be dangerous to offer me that position," I
personally would not be able to handle the responsibility which comes with having money at easy
disposal because of how I was raised. For the first nine years of my life, I lived in Belarus. My
family would've been considered to be middle–class at the time. We didn't struggle, but there was
always the desire to make more money. In 2009, we won the lottery for the greencard to come to the
United States, and "the green card was a passport to the American Dream" (Zakaria 468). Leaving
everything and everyone behind, we packed our suitcases and came to Strongsville, OH. The college

The Dubliners: Not Just Another Pretty Face
The Dubliners is a series of short stories by James Joyce first published in 1914. They form a picture
of Irish middle class life in Dublin in the early years of the 20th century. The last book, The Dead, is
considered to be the finest of the entire series. In this story we have the protagonist, Gabriel Conroy.
He "is insecure, egotistical and demonstrates in his awkward attempts at communion, an often–
profound misunderstanding of his companions (Free 282)." He is also the "favourite nephew"(Joyce
558) of the Morkan sisters who invited he and his wife Gretta to the annual Christmas dinner.
Gabriel does what most good nephews do which is to be pleasant company and perform the typical
male gendered tasks, such as carving the goose. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This encounter with Lily sets the demeaning tone of insecurity in Gabriel for the remainder of the
evening. As he skips hurriedly away and the night goes on, Gabriel is partnered up for the festive
holiday dance with Miss Ivors. Miss Ivors is a a true Irish nationalist at heart. She is like an Irish
Susan B. Anthony, who can size up Gabriel with a lashing tongue of ego busting insults that gets
Gabriel's feelings twisted, which makes this dance between them anything but festive. Miss Ivors
starts the tirade by telling him that she has a "crow to pluck"(Joyce 563) which starts the
conversation off with her using an authoritative voice. Miss. Ivors uses numerous insults such as an
"innocent Amy" (Joyce 563) or "West Briton" (Joyce 563). She proceeds insulting him about his job
for The Daily Express, belittling the job to mere trash or "rag like that" (Joyce 563). Miss Ivors
engages Gabriel by taking the lead in the dance when she tells him "Come, we cross now" (Joyce
563). Gabriel's fury comes to a head when Miss Ivors invites him and his wife to a holiday trip to
the west coast of Ireland with them, and when pressed why he won't come along with them he
retorts back that "Im sick of my own country, sick of it! (Joyce 564)" Gabriel couldn't even give an
answer as to why he doesn't like his own country. So Miss Ivors closes the dance with the biting
insult of "West Briton"(Joyce 565) and then we see Gabriel, clearly upset and beaten, going "to a

Management Styles Of Costco And Wal Mart
Management styles affect every part of a company. The way executives chose to lead a company can
affect the path which it takes, whether it is good or bad, that is up to management and their leaders.
The following discussion on the management and corporate structures of Wal–Mart and Costco will
be evidence for how Wal–Mart could benefit from using some of Costco 's corporate business
practices. The management styles of Costco and Wal–Mart will be analyzed in the following paper
that has been researched. The analysis of this topic will reveal that both Costco and Wal–Mart have
some similarities, but mostly they have very different management styles that have bent them in
different directions but with the same goal. Costco was the first company to grow from zero to $3
billion in sales in just 5 years. For the year ending on August 31, 201, the company 's sales totaled
$99 billion, with $1.7 billion net profit. Costco is 19th on the 2014 Fortune 500. Wal–Mart has over
8,500 stores in 15 countries, under over 50 different names. The company operates under its own
name in the United States, including the 50 states. It operates in Mexico as Walmex, in the United
Kingdom as Asda, in Japan as Seiyu, and in India as Best Price. It has completely owned operations
in Argentina, Brazil, and Canada. Wal–Mart's investments outside North America have had mixed
results: its operations in the United Kingdom, South America and China are highly successful.

False Picture of Marriage in The Dead by James Joyce and...
Illusion versus Reality: Marriage in Modern Literature
Modern literature is known for questioning society and its various conventions. One question that
these works often ask is, "What is real?" Some modern authors explore this question by placing their
characters within self–constructed illusions that are later shattered by the introduction of reality.
Marriages are frequently at the center of this theme, with one spouse crafting an illusory impression
of the other. Modern literature demonstrates that a marriage built upon illusion will falter when
exposed to reality. In order to understand the effects of illusion on marriages in modern literature,
we will explore two pieces: The Dead by James Joyce and Odour of Chrysanthemums by D.H. ...

In fact, his fondness for her grows throughout the story, to the point that he is nearly unable to
contain his happiness and his longing to be alone with her (2194).
Unfortunately, the connection that Gabriel feels to his wife is the product of illusion. In reality, he
doesn't know her at all–a fact Joyce alludes to when Gabriel fails to recognize his own wife and sees
only, "[a] woman standing near the top of the stairs..." (2192). When Gretta begins to reminisce
about a boy from her past, Gabriel's blanket of illusion is snatched away: "While he had been full
of...joy and desire, she had been comparing him in her mind with another" (2197). Facing the reality
of his wife's love for another man, Gabriel now begins to question their entire relationship.
As Gabriel reflects on Gretta's sorrow for this lost young man, he comes to accept that he has never
experienced that depth of feeling and love for another person–not even for the wife that he had so
desired just a short time before. He no longer looks at her through "admiring and happy eyes;" he
now sees only her age and bitterly acknowledges that "her face is no longer the face for which [the
boy] braved death" (2199). The reality of Gretta's past has revealed the shallowness of his feelings
and the hollowness in his life, and Gabriel's picture of Gretta is forever changed.
While Elizabeth and Gabriel each created a different type of illusion, the end result was the same–

Brand Differentiators : A Brand Differentiator
Group 2 Members:

1. a. Brand Differentiators: A key brand differentiator for LEGO is their themed LEGO playset
series. This differentiator is a feature type as each set series is uniquely sub branded to highlight the
theme of that series to the characteristics of the feature it is highlighting. (LEGO, 2016) For
example, LEGO Architecture series is a branded series of miniature LEGO pieces that are themed
around real–life scale structures, like the Empire State Building or Statue of Liberty. That feature is
geared towards a more mature demographic with an engineering focus. Similarly, LEGO Marvel
Superheroes sets are focused on the various Marvel comic book characters. This brand feature not
only leverages LEGO's brand, but also Marvel, which locks in those two features as a key
differentiator to any competitor's offering. In other words, to get Marvel Hero type building block
sets, consumers must go to LEGO not MegaBloks to get the chosen experience. This type of brand
strategy is what makes the LEGO themed sets a key brand differentiator for their business.
b. i. LEGO's master brand is their building block sets. Prior to their brand differentiation, LEGO
blocks were comprised of generic shapes of common building features: Walls, doors, windows, floor
platforms, etc. With branding the sets as theme features, LEGO is able to lend its master brand
credibility to feature sub brand and

Personal Narrative : My Best Friend
March 22, 2006, should have been a regular Wednesday for me. Me being in first grade, a regular
Wednesday was to wake up at 8 a.m. to my father turning on my lights, and spiritedly but
annoyingly singing, "Wake up, wake up!" Wincing at the light and my father's terrible voice, I was
always able to wake up in order to shut him up. However, the most memorable part of this day was
not during school but rather what happened later that day at home. It was my father's birthday. My
father was turning 33 and my mom had a little surprise for our family. To this day, I am not too sure
whether my father knew it was happening or not, but my mom walked in through the front door
holding a 10lb cream–colored standard poodle. My mom placed her on the dining room table; tail–
wagging, tongue out, and super energized. Standing there in awe due to pure shock and
astonishment, it was a moment I will always remember. I met my first true best–friend. It wasn't just
some friend though, this dog became my family. Chelsea was the smartest dog I knew, being able to
understand our commands (In Russian of course, as we spoke that at home) at the age of 2. I was
able to teach it hand commands, like raising my hand in front of me as if telling someone to stop,
which signaled sit. Lay down was me waving my hand down, as if petting a dog in a vertical

family. My dog perfectly fit the stereotype all poodles have.

Chopin VS Thurber and Relationships
In the stories "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" by James Thurber (Clugston, sec. h1.1) and "The
Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin (Clugston, sec. h2.1) escapism is a similar theme with in both
these stories, yet there is a slight variance in how each of these authors place these characters into
their escape from reality, relationships, and everyday chaos. In each of these stories the author
shows the characters escaping the realities of the relationship, one through Walter Mitts' daydreams,
and the other through one brief hour when Louise Mallard pictures her new life of freedom. Through
the use of characterization, imagery, point of view and setting these authors bring in the element of
escapism to each story. In the short story "The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

about with her husband and was it silent or restless.
B. "two white slender hands"(Clugston, sec. h2.1) is a clue to the reader that her character is gentle
as well as a lady and should be treated as so, however the "lines"(Clugston, sec. h2.1) as described
by the narrator show she's hiding many deep feelings. When someone is filled with recession the
chance to escape their stress and hurt would be welcomed.
In "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty the use of imagery give the reader a illustrative description of
the daydreams he is having while allowing the reader to have a vivid picture of the goings–on
around him. The imagery of his wife's consistent nagging is brought into focus allowing the reader
to identify with Walter concerning his wife s overbearing and scrutinizing ways. In "The Story of An
Hour" imagery gives the reader a feel of almost relief along with the use of our senses such as taste,
smell, sight and sounds to set a stage the tragedies yet to come. Deneau suggests this story may be a

Personal Narrative: I Am Jillian
Life has been an uphill battle since I could remember. I was always seen as the outcast, the girl with
a crazy mind. I am the girl with a crazy mind. I think, act, and speak differently from other people in
my school. I am very hyper with lots of energy while everyone is calm and relaxed. I am able to
comprehend things much faster than my peers and even my teachers. I don't need to sit down and
wait for someone to explain something to me I just speed right through it. I have been a fast learner
all my life and I have been ahead of everyone from day one. I am thirteen years old and I have
already graduated from high school. I could have graduated two years ago but being that I am so
hyper my teachers didn't think I was mature enough to graduate. ... Show more content on

They called me stupid and told me I had ADHD, when I didn't. It would be so bad that I would come
home crying from all their lies and "jokes". Jill used to help me with everything but since Jakob
came into the picture, when I was ten and he was eleven, he has protected me. He is super smart too.
Learning as much as he possibly could was his escape. His escape from his mom's drugs and her
crazy ways. He says that now that he's part of my family it has made him feel so alive. He can
actually be free to speak his mind. He is graduating this year and when we were in school together
he wouldn't let anyone bully me. He protected me with all his power. If someone looked at me funny
he would put them in their place. But now that I'm not going to school this year he has more of a
chance to study for his tests and exams, although he doesn't need much time because he gets A's on
everything he does. Whether it be sports, music, or academics he is amazing. He plays football,
soccer, basketball, baseball, and runs in track. He also plays saxophone, piano, and guitar. I have no
idea how he got to all his classes, games, concerts, and took care of me at the same time but
somehow he managed it with perfect grades. He is the best big brother ever. I'm glad I had him to
help me with the bullies at school because it helped me become more confident in myself. This year,
as he attends school, I will be taking music classes. I have decided I want to

Personal Narrative: Loss Of Emotions
I was scared. No, actually it wasn't scary I was terrified. I felt a loss of control of my emotions. I just
wished that my dad was there. All I wanted to do was cry. Not from pain but from the feeling of
aloneness and the terror that I felt. My eyes were ready to release all emotions. But I couldn't do it, I
wouldn't allow it. My brothers needed me to be strong and I had to show them that I was not scared.
I had to show them that everything will be fine and it was all normal. Besides I couldn't feel the pain
in my arm. Which actually kind of worried me. But what was I supposed to do? I am a nine year old
who has a broken arm. My mom who was there with her friends passed out. I didn't know how to
react. I just sat there. I was speechless. Maybe if I was a little bit more patient and dried myself, I
wouldn't have broken my arm. Or maybe if I just was wasn't stupid and acted like a mature person
maybe my mom wouldn't have fainted. Who knows, but July 11, 2011 was and is a day for the
books. Like how does that even happen, in an blink of an eye, everything can change ... Show more

My dad had to go to work. And my brothers and I wanted to go to the park to play. We ate breakfast
and then we played a little bit on our computers on poptropica. And then at 1:30 pm we got dressed
and started walking to the park. On our way, we each got an icecream cone. I always had to have a
vanilla cone with chocolate sprinkles and a cherry on top. And then we walked into hudson county
park. And of course the first thing me and my brothers do is go in the wet games. We played for
about half an hour to and hour and a half. We then rushed drying ourselves and went to the dry
games to play. They just installed a new game in the park. I called it the "human spinner." Basically
you go inside a big thing with railings surrounding you so that you don't fall, and then you get
someone to spin it. And then you get dizzy and it's fun for little

The Night Nightmare
Late Night Nightmare.
It was late at night when they finally arrived to the motel. The hotel he was at was very dark and
creepy. The closet had a few hangers. The bathroom was filthy. The sink had green vomit on it. The
shower had urine it. Jason was petrified. The fridge only had a bottle of water and a small sandwich.
Since he didn 't want to look at his room anymore, so he went to bed. His bed was the only clean
thing in the motel room.
When he went to bed he tried to get comfortable because the bed only had one pillow and one
blanket. He had a nightmare.. the next day.
James point of view:
It was bright. The room was a pretty teal color. Jason saw his little sister eating on the dinner table.

Since I always finish my homework early, and Julie doesn 't do her homework until she gets home
and it 's like six o'clock already, Jasmine always wants to play so Julie doesn 't play with her. I
always play with Jasmine since I 'm like her own Barbie doll. She has so many dolls but decides for
me to be her doll. We always play tea party or watch a Barbie movie or watch something appropriate
for her.
Julie doesn 't really hangout with us. Unless it 's family time or she just really wants to hangout with
us. She 's turning twelve soon and she 's a pre–teen so that 's understandable. Maybe she likes
someone too. These days we do not know how pre–teens or teens do. She calls her friend Claire a
lot. They are like peas in a pot stuck together.
Tomorrow is Justin's birthday.. yay!
Julie, Jasmine, and I have to plan something for him. I 'll call my parents too because they haven 't
contacted us for a week.. and usually mom would call us everyday but not this time. Justin is going
to go buy groceries tomorrow so I guess the girls and I will have it set by then.

Pandemic Death Monologue

  • 1. Pandemic Death Monologue Pandemic Death So It started when I was young about nine years of age and it was early in the year 1350. It started a little like this, there was a knock on the door and I got up to go see who it was. When I opened the door there was a man on his horse. The man asked my parents were home, they were, so I said I could go and get them. Once I had gotten my parents the man asked if they are willing to go on a trip through the sea to Kwillining, London. They said they would, so they put in there few overalls and dirty old jeans into a small waggon that are going to have to hall 46 miles to get to the ship. I have two brothers ... WE were having so much fun together...Until there was a deep voice outside our door. The voice was booming, dark, and scary. They then suddenly I saw the door split in two. A man about twice the height as me then thundered in. The man started rambling on about how everyone is dieing and that the world was going to end. I noticed there were swollen oval shaped things the size of an apple. The man then asked,'' I've traveled a long way and i'm so tired of seeing dead bodies everywhere I go I was also wondering if I could sit a while here. Just about everyone is dead around here.'' I told him he could stay a while and I got him some fresh water. The man said he would replace our door and he was very sorry for hacking it down. He got up and was getting ready to leave when he fell to the floor weakly and started coughing up blood. We knew exactly what this meant. He had the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So the little girl and her friend just sat there and talked for about 15 minutes for their parents to come. So while they were talking her friend brought up the little girl going to her house when her parents got there. So there parents got there finally and the little girl asked her parents "can I go to my best friend's house". Her parents said "no". Then the little girl was going to ask why but she knew that they were going to say "because I said so now stop asking". So she just sat in the back seat and she shut her mouth. So when she got home she marched to her room and slammed her door. She started to cry and she got angry because she could not go to her friends and she has never been to her friends ever. The mass murder that was happening in the states of the New England region was the center of the discussion in the Boston FBI field office building. Officer Alecia Harrison was sitting silently in the room while the roars of the others burdened her ears. It was a late night and the agents were talking all at once about their opinions on the situation. She sighed, looked around the room and shouted over the silence for everyone to be quiet. The young woman opened up her door and immediately felt that sense of uneasiness again even though her home was full of light. She could hear the water running in the bathroom and figured that her boyfriend, James, was just taking his usual night shower. She went into the kitchen to get a quick drink of water. As she drank the cool liquid she felt an immense feeling of relief. She advanced toward the bathroom. She walked down the hallway heading towards the closed bathroom door. Alecia felt a sense of panic and anxiety when she felt her foot become slightly submerged in a liquid on the floor. She flung the bathroom door open and felt her throat tighten at the scene. Her loving boyfriend was laying in the bathtub clearly dead with the water overflowing over the sides of the tub. His eyes were glazed over, looking almost made out of glass, and his skin had started to become discolored. Letting out a guttural scream, she ran to the side of the tub and tried to lift him out. • 7. A Transformation from Gracious to Malicious Most people are kind at heart, but society's negative perceptions changes them. Mary Shelley's novel, Frankenstein, portrays this concept. Frankenstein's monster treats humans kindly – refuting the stereotype that all monsters are evil. In this novel, the monster is kind towards mankind until society criticizes him and turns him into a malicious creature. The monster that Frankenstein creates has kind–hearted morals, but because society harms him based on his hideous appearance. Because of his treatment, he transforms into a murderous monster, pointing to the destructive power of societal criticism. Society rapidly judges the monster and forms opinions based on his outside appearance rather than his internal intentions. After creating the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The feelings of kindness and gentleness which I had entertained but a few moments before gave place to hellish rage and gnashing of teeth...I vowed eternal hatred and vengeance to all mankind" (Shelley 168). The monster's use of the words "destruction", "miserable pain", "hellish rage", "eternal hatred", and "vengeance to all mankind" strongly portray his detestation towards all mankind. The monster showed "benevolence, "kindness", and "gentleness", but instead he receives a bad reaction from mankind in return. From the novel Horror, Michael Stuprich writes, "Sympathy and antipathy are our crucial responses... Frankenstein tells us that our sympathies, our antipathies, can be wrong. This applies massively to the monster himself (who is rejected instantly, by everybody, purely because of his 'hideous' appearance)...as if to show that...just monsters suffer from this unfair fate". (Stuprich 118) The monster's unfair fate illustrates the monster's appearance and how this appearance leads to his demise. Everyone portrays a monster as an ugly, vicious creature. Because of the monster's ugly appearance, society judges and shuns the monster, even though he is good–natured. People make mistaken judgments of others based upon appearance. They think they can trust their senses, but this is not always correct. A bias equating ugly and evil turns people against the monster, which causes the monster ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Dubliners ' By James Joyce Dubliners, is a book in which James Joyce takes his readers back to early 20th century Dublin. Joyce 's collection of short stories portrays his homeland, Ireland, at a time of stagnation and the beginning of the Irish Nationalist Movements, which sought independence from Great Britain. With such dependence, Ireland and its citizens ' lives could not move forward and to enliven this condition in his book Joyce use three great concepts. In the first short story Joyce mentions the words gnomon, simony, and paralysis, and by doing so he foreshadows the themes of every story and how they are a close description of Dublin at that time. Joyce use the concept of gnomon to typify incompleteness, disconnection, and being in the shadow of someone or something, which is a important theme in his book about the empty and incomplete lives of the Irish. Before meeting the odd old man, the boys decided to skip school and go looking for adventures like in the Wild West, and the narrator tells: But when the restraining influence of the school was at a distance I began to hunger again for wild sensations, for the escape which those chronicles of disorder alone seemed to offer me. The mimic warfare of the evening became at last as wearisome to me as the routine of school in the morning because I wanted real adventures to happen to myself. But real adventures, I reflected, do not happen to people who remain at home: they must be sought abroad. ("An Encounter" 13) Their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Roles of Women in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley In "Frankenstein" penned by Mary Shelley, one cannot help but notice the role of women in the novel compared to men. Even though Mary Shelley is the daughter of Mary Wollstonecraft, a mother advocating for women's rights in society, she displays the roles of Caroline, Elizabeth, and Justine as passive women. This may be the time period when women were considered inferior to men. Caroline, Elizabeth, and Justine are depicted as possessions by men, admired for their superficial beauty, and do not take action without the permission of men. On the other hand, Shelley illustrates Safie as a woman who speaks up for her own rights when her father forbids her to find Felix. The three points that contribute greatly to the passive role of women are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elizabeth desires to understand how Victor is doing in college. However, as Victor's possession, Elizabeth can only visit Victor under the approval of Victor's father. Also, in another letter that Elizabeth writes to Victor while Victor is in England, Elizabeth asks Victor if he has fallen in love with another woman. Elizabeth points out, "Tell me, dearest Victor. Answer me, I conjure you, by our mutual happiness, with simple truth – Do you love another" (Shelley 166). Due to Victor's lack in response to Elizabeth's letters, Elizabeth becomes worried about her love for Victor. Although Elizabeth comprehends her love for Victor during her childhood years, she has no right to prevent Victor to fall in love with another woman. Elizabeth's role as Victor's possession illustrates how only Victor can choose whether he wants Elizabeth or the other woman. Similarly, Justine displays her passivity when she cannot prove her innocence for the murder of William Frankenstein. In the article, "The Ghost of a Self", Vanessa Dickerson describes Justine as, "an innocent, sensitive, beautiful, and loving servant who is unjustly executed for the murder of little William Frankenstein" (85). Justine desires to prove her innocence, but as a household servant in the Frankenstein family, only Victor's appearance in court will prove her innocence. Breakaway Fire : A Short Story : The Story Of A Story I was down at the Breakaway Bar with my cousins, Frank Many Horses and Lester Fallsapart, telling many stories –even though no one actually listens to what I have to say until they hear something they may find a bit interesting. All of a sudden we heard sirens. Everyone around here gets excited about it. The sirens mean that we can take action and be a hero, so Lester, Frank, and I are started to make our way to the place that was ablaze. As soon as we got to the scene of the fire we had realized that it was Rosemary MorningDove's home. Frank ManyHorses, who is rumored to be the father of her son, immediately knew that James was in the home. James immediately ran into the home to save James. By the time that Frank was able to reach him there was no way that they could have made it out alive, so Frank threw him out of the window while assuming that someone was there to catch him. I ran, galloping toward James and the burning building. I could not help but break free, let my wings spread and go diving in for the baby boy. Unfortunately, just as I dived for the child As he fell into my arms it felt as if I had known him for a lifetime. It was as if we had a past– in which we would exchange our stories and tell them all to the young children. It seemed as though I had known him as a man who spent his time lecturing others and making it a point to let others know of what was going on in the world. • 17. Is Discrimination Killing America? Is Discrimination Killing America? Eric Brene once said, "The moment a little boy is concerned with which is a jay and which is a sparrow, he can no longer see the birds or hear them sing." This quote is not only powerful and alarming but it too can shed some light on the situation here in America regarding discrimination. Discrimination is a plague of society that has cast a shadow over this country and has caused tension among us in the process. The question remains: is discrimination killing America? Discrimination is defined as, "treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit," (Dictionary.com 1). This debate over whether or not discrimination is killing America is more prevalent now than ever, with the case of Ahmed Mohamed. Ahmed Mohamed was simply a 14–year–old student, who brought an invention that he worked so hard and diligently to produce into school, and ended up in prison. The reason as to why he was put in handcuffs and taken from school: a clock. A homemade clock in which he made, and brought into school to show one of his teachers, caused Ahmed to be arrested. There is heavy debate as to whether or not the clock did look a bomb, but without a shadow of a doubt, that the clock was labeled as a bomb due to Ahmed's nationality. This raises a concern that this country is on a downwards spiral regarding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I would point out that Television was now in people's homes, news came more instantaneous than before, the death of a young black man named Jimmie Lee Jackson's, and Bloody Sunday. The first event that leads us to Selma is the encounter with Sheriff Jim Clark who on the town hall steps stops blacks from entering the building thus not allowing them to register to vote. Without peace within, you cannot accomplish peace outside. Gandhi once said, " If we want to reach real peace in this world, we should start educating children." When he says this I don't envision he means a classroom full of innocent children being programmed with math, reading, writing and the sciences. How many students are actually going to benefit from knowing how to transform a parabola? Yes, those things are important. However, a child's mental health overrules by far. When I read that quote I see a classroom full of children playing, having fun, and learning to discover themselves through making friendships. How can a child genuinely learn anything about themselves and the earth they walk on if their little heads are constantly being crammed full of academics? They can't, and this system is twisted. Federalist Papers : The Federalist Paper Daniel Gasca Mr. Brooks AP Government Period 1 10/27/15 The Federalist Papers The Federalist Papers Ten and Fifty–One were the ideal papers written by Madison to support th¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬e ratification of the Constitution. Out of all the federalist papers, these are two of the most important federalist papers. So what were the federalist papers? They were 85 essays written by three gentlemen: Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay that explained particular provisions of the Constitution in detail. Alexander Hamilton goes on to be the first treasury secretary, James Madison goes on to be the fourth president and John Jay the first chief justice in US history. So what was the purpose of these papers? Well, they were written to gain support for the US Constitution, especially in New York. While many people might see it as inevitable, the Constitution was a revolutionary step. Because of the revolutionary nature of the new constitution, arguments were necessary to rationalize it. Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Virginia, and New York were the states critical to the success or failure of the Constitution. Of these four states, New York by far was the state where the success of the constitution was in the most doubt. Quickly, Alexander Hamilton decided that a massive propaganda campaign was necessary in New York, more than in any other state. So with the help of James Madison and John Jay, he published several essays in different newspapers in New York. There is really little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who was I? What was I? Whence did I come? What was my destination? These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve them (Mary Shelley's Frankenstein)." Mary Shelley's book, Frankenstein, parallels her own experiences. Shelley's mother died in childbirth, and she was left "dependent on none and related to none." Her father, William Godwin, abandoned his daughter emotionally when he remarried a woman who treated Mary poorly. Shelley often searched for an understanding of who she was. Clare and Shelley both use negative diction, juxtaposing extreme terminology within the same sentence, and long, rambling sentences within their writings. John Clare and Mary Shelley's use of similar stylistic devices illustrates how loneliness makes one turn to death, either suicidal or murderous, due to humans' innate need to be connected to others; without a connection, isolation creates insurmountable suffering. Diction: Clare, the author of I am, and Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, both use despondent diction to represent the agony of loneliness; ultimately forewarning the reader that without love, one's existence is lifeless and leads to doom and destruction. When Shelley uses terms like "catastrophe" or "wretch" to describe the creation of the monster, she refers to the physical appearance of the creature, and the emotional turmoil of Victor Frankenstein and the creature, as well. The monster is abandoned by Frankenstein due to his hideous stature. Shelley plays with contrasts such as the creature's mouth, whose teeth are "pearly white" but whose lips are "black". The eyes, which ironically are the windows to man's emotions, are colorless. The hair is "lustrous", almost sensual, but the complexion is "shrivelled", like an elderly man on his death bed. She juxtaposes Victor's arrogance of having the brilliance to create a gift reserved to G–d, with his deliverance of the devil. When Shelley says that the skin "scarcely" covers ... • 37. Analysis Of Mary Shelley 's ' Frankenstein ' English 102 Professor Milligan 26 October, 2015 Creature's Argument In the novel, Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, the Creature 's only need is for a female companion, which he asks Victor Frankenstein his maker to create. Shelley shows the argument between the creature and Frankenstein. The creature says: "I demand a creature of another sex, but as hideous as myself" (Shelley 139). Shelley shows what the creature wants from Frankenstein and what his needs are. Shelley gives us an idea of the sympathy that Frankenstein might feel for the creature even though he neglects him. The creature confronts Victor demanding his attention and expressing his needs. I feel a lot of sympathy for the creature based on him being able to forgive Victor for abandoning him and being able to communicate with him. Victor Frankenstein has created a creature so vile and horrid looking that neither man nor woman can look upon it without fear or loathing. While living in a cave the creature had a chance to observe and learn about the comfort of togetherness. For the first time, after meeting the blind man, he is able to have a human being talk with him without screaming or rejecting him. He is so desperate he asks the blind man for him and his family to save him from his loneliness and aloneness. When the family comes in and sees the creature one faints and the others have the same rejection and horror in their faces and responses. "The Scarlet Ibis" is a short story about two brothers; one brother is healthy, while the other is physically handicapped. The short story is centered on the idea that the older, healthier brother's selfishness and pride ultimately led to the death of his younger brother, Doodle. Numerous quotes throughout the story demonstrate Hurst's use of symbolism and foreshadowing to portray and predict Doodle's untimely and heartbreaking death. The Scarlet Ibis bird symbolizes Doodle; this symbolism can be seen by the authors description of both Doodle's and the Scarlet Ibis's appearance after death. Hurst starts by setting a gloomy scene as the narrator is speaking. The narrator, Doodle's old brother, soon states, "But sometimes, as I sit in the cool...I remember Doodle" (Hurst 1). Hurst uses the word "remember" to emphasize the fact that Doodle is no long around. Readers do not know what happened to Doodle, but begin to suspect the answer. In the next paragraph the narrator says, "Doodle was just about the craziest brother a boy ever had" (Hurst 1). In this quote, Hurst uses past tense words such as "was" and "had" to once again show that this was in the past. Hurst's word choices foreshadow Doodle's death and sparks interest in the readers at the very beginning. Foreshadowing is used at the beginning of the story to draw readers into the story and help keep their interest. Hurst utilizes foreshadowing to demonstrate how the brother's selfishness and pride leads to the death of Doodle. Not long after Doodle was born, the mother explains to the brother that Doodle might be mentally handicapped as well as physically handicapped. The brother could not accept the fact that his brother is different, so he "began to make plans to kill him [Doodle] by smothering him in his sleep" (Hurst 1). James had just turned twenty–five, and as adventurous as he was, he anxiously waited for a task. Next thing he knew, he has found himself scrolling on an LED screen which entranced him as if he knew nothing more. There he sat, alone in his dusty old room looking through various websites for interesting locations near him. His fingers stopped with a jerk. A picture of a castle intrigued him as he stared at the blinding screen. The location was on an island north of Canada, only about an hour and a half from his hometown near Nunavut. Four words caught his eyes underneath the section titled "Description". " The curse never dies," it wrote. This didn't deter James in the slightest. The next morning James pulled himself out of bed and got ready. The day was bright and warm with very few clouds in the sky; the fresh scents of summer filled his nostrils as he prepared to embark on this adventure. For one hour and thirty minutes James drove through the constant stretch of road until he reached something. It was a boat ramp, but something was off. The ramp had been consumed by the elements of nature and time and floating near the ramp was an old wooden paddle boat engraved with the words "Katherine Rogers" on the side. It seemed to have been there only a couple weeks. James carefully boarded the small paddle boat and made his way north, where at a distance, a island could be spotted with a castle–like structure ... Growing up, my parents rarely denied me new toys, but subconsciously, I knew I should not ask for unnecessary items. Up to this day, I don't remember a time when I bought something without asking myself multiple times, "How much do I really need this?" This is because my family has never been in a financial position in which we could afford anything and everything we wanted. In this story we have the protagonist, Gabriel Conroy. • 51. Descriptive Essay About Love The light shined through the thin hotel blinds to wake up the newly wedded couple on their romantic honeymoon. The beautiful tropical sky was cloudless with a never ending blue skyline. The turquoise water went on for miles in the horizon. As Mike open the blinds the glistening sun had blinded him. His beautiful wife laying in their king size been with the covers covering her scandalous body. Her blue eyes slowly opened as she gazed at Mike. The glimmer in her eyes made it clear that he was her true love. The night before was fulfilled with a passionate intimacy that would make a dream come true. With Mike staring at the pool filled with little kids he noticed a father and son swimming in the pool. The father was teaching his son how to swim for the first time. The son was about 6 or 7. Struggling to stay afloat the dad was right by his side making sure he wouldn't drown. Mike just kept thinking about how amazing that was. To have someone of his own. "Babe, you ready to go to breakfast?" His wife said as she brushed her teeth. "Sure honey" he quickly responded as he came behind her and kissed the top of her head. He put on a bathing suit and a t–shirt so that right after breakfast he could go to the beach. At breakfast he was amazed with all the options that were available. The delicious foods overloaded his brain and had no idea what to get. Looking carefully and closely at his options he decided what to get. French Toast. His favorite. As he carefully selected his ... • 53. A Short Story : A Story Of The Story She let herself be swallowed by the fog. She didn't remember dinner or what she said, just that food tasted like ash and a corpse's hand was warmer than hers. Her face hurt from smiling and her laugh sounded hollow. She was too apathetic to care, her mind far away dreaming of Erik. Afterwards, Monsieur Chagny took them "home". Raoul had passed out in a wine induced stupor in the carriage. Rita and Chagny carried him in, she secretly enjoyed hearing Chagny struggle to carry the dead weight but pitied Rita. They settled him in bed talking as if nothing amiss before leaving. She wished them goodnight, her smile dropping the second the door closed. She stood at the door, contemplating navigating the dark streets to go to Giry's or hell the theater. She could just run away... She pressed her against the door, her hand on the handle. He wouldn't like that... She couldn't make him angry. Raoul only took it on her when she did. But Chagny would make the whole theater collapse and ask why she did it... her hand fell from the door. She couldn't be responsible for its downfall. The apartment was small and crowded with cheap furniture she has already bumped into. The stale air choked her but opening the windows only brought in the stench of the city. She retreated to the second bedroom Rita had told her about and locked it. She laid on the bed, staring at ceiling until sleep came. She earned new bruises navigating about the damn furniture in the morning and found Raoul in the oversized bed snoring. She briefly contemplated putting a pillow over his face to shut him up. The thought of his father made her sigh and shake her head, as she went to the locked wardrobe his father said was hers. He gave her the key before leaving the night before. It was overflowing with dresses, of rich material by the feel of it. Undergarments were of soft cotton and new corsets. She dressed quickly, angry that he thought he could buy her back with such things and locked it again. Upon leaving to the theater, it dawned on her why Chagny had purchased the apartment above the offices. He would their every coming and going and she would have to see him every day. • 55. False Picture of Marriage in The Dead by James Joyce and... Illusion versus Reality: Marriage in Modern Literature Modern literature is known for questioning society and its various conventions. One question that these works often ask is, "What is real?" Some modern authors explore this question by placing their characters within self–constructed illusions that are later shattered by the introduction of reality. Marriages are frequently at the center of this theme, with one spouse crafting an illusory impression of the other. Modern literature demonstrates that a marriage built upon illusion will falter when exposed to reality. In order to understand the effects of illusion on marriages in modern literature, we will explore two pieces: The Dead by James Joyce and Odour of Chrysanthemums by D.H. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, his fondness for her grows throughout the story, to the point that he is nearly unable to contain his happiness and his longing to be alone with her (2194). Unfortunately, the connection that Gabriel feels to his wife is the product of illusion. In reality, he doesn't know her at all–a fact Joyce alludes to when Gabriel fails to recognize his own wife and sees only, "[a] woman standing near the top of the stairs..." (2192). When Gretta begins to reminisce about a boy from her past, Gabriel's blanket of illusion is snatched away: "While he had been full of...joy and desire, she had been comparing him in her mind with another" (2197). Facing the reality of his wife's love for another man, Gabriel now begins to question their entire relationship. As Gabriel reflects on Gretta's sorrow for this lost young man, he comes to accept that he has never experienced that depth of feeling and love for another person–not even for the wife that he had so desired just a short time before. He no longer looks at her through "admiring and happy eyes;" he now sees only her age and bitterly acknowledges that "her face is no longer the face for which [the boy] braved death" (2199). The reality of Gretta's past has revealed the shallowness of his feelings and the hollowness in his life, and Gabriel's picture of Gretta is forever changed. While Elizabeth and Gabriel each created a different type of illusion, the end result was the same– their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Never played the demonic games, never asked if Charlie was here, never talked into the mirror, but it still came, or perhaps it was always watching me. Sometimes I still hear the whispers in my mind, when I was a child I told my mother about the voices but she never believed me, no one does. Now I'm stuck in this special place for the insane, but I'm not insane, I just tell the truth. If they were there that night horrible night they would understand. It was a frigid October morning as I got into the bus. I sat next to the humble girl from my Language Arts class and pulled out my agenda that was smeared with Sharpie from when it used to say Margaret Harris, 8th grade. It was a normal school day until I looked out the window and saw a man that appeared to be looking straight at me from a far distance, and then the whispers started. Until that day the whispers were just chaotic, jumbles of words that I could never comprehend, but today was different. The whispers grew loud in my head as I stared at the man and just one word repeated in my head...... until. The rest of the day I pondered what the word could have meant that was running through my skull. When I got home my little sister was acting quite unusual. • 59. Brand Differentiators : A Brand Differentiator Group 2 Members: Brittany Fay, Elizabeth Butkus, Joy Varnay, Keith Shelton, Eric Barnes 1. a. Brand Differentiators: A key brand differentiator for LEGO is their themed LEGO playset series. This differentiator is a feature type as each set series is uniquely sub branded to highlight the theme of that series to the characteristics of the feature it is highlighting. (LEGO, 2016) For example, LEGO Architecture series is a branded series of miniature LEGO pieces that are themed around real–life scale structures, like the Empire State Building or Statue of Liberty. That feature is geared towards a more mature demographic with an engineering focus. Similarly, LEGO Marvel Superheroes sets are focused on the various Marvel comic book characters. This brand feature not only leverages LEGO's brand, but also Marvel, which locks in those two features as a key differentiator to any competitor's offering. In other words, to get Marvel Hero type building block sets, consumers must go to LEGO not MegaBloks to get the chosen experience. This type of brand strategy is what makes the LEGO themed sets a key brand differentiator for their business. b. i. LEGO's master brand is their building block sets. Prior to their brand differentiation, LEGO blocks were comprised of generic shapes of common building features: Walls, doors, windows, floor platforms, etc. With branding the sets as theme features, LEGO is able to lend its master brand credibility to feature sub brand and ... Me being in first grade, a regular Wednesday was to wake up at 8 a.m. to my father turning on my lights, and spiritedly but annoyingly singing, "Wake up, wake up!" Wincing at the light and my father's terrible voice, I was always able to wake up in order to shut him up. However, the most memorable part of this day was not during school but rather what happened later that day at home. It was my father's birthday. My father was turning 33 and my mom had a little surprise for our family. To this day, I am not too sure whether my father knew it was happening or not, but my mom walked in through the front door holding a 10lb cream–colored standard poodle. My mom placed her on the dining room table; tail– wagging, tongue out, and super energized. Standing there in awe due to pure shock and astonishment, it was a moment I will always remember. I met my first true best–friend. It wasn't just some friend though, this dog became my family. Chelsea was the smartest dog I knew, being able to understand our commands (In Russian of course, as we spoke that at home) at the age of 2. I was able to teach it hand commands, like raising my hand in front of me as if telling someone to stop, which signaled sit. Chopin VS Thurber and Relationships In the stories "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" by James Thurber (Clugston, sec. h1.1) and "The Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin (Clugston, sec. h2.1) escapism is a similar theme with in both these stories, yet there is a slight variance in how each of these authors place these characters into their escape from reality, relationships, and everyday chaos. In each of these stories the author shows the characters escaping the realities of the relationship, one through Walter Mitts' daydreams, and the other through one brief hour when Louise Mallard pictures her new life of freedom. Through the use of characterization, imagery, point of view and setting these authors bring in the element of escapism to each story. In the short story "The ... When someone is filled with recession the chance to escape their stress and hurt would be welcomed. In "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty the use of imagery give the reader a illustrative description of the daydreams he is having while allowing the reader to have a vivid picture of the goings–on around him. The imagery of his wife's consistent nagging is brought into focus allowing the reader to identify with Walter concerning his wife s overbearing and scrutinizing ways. In "The Story of An Hour" imagery gives the reader a feel of almost relief along with the use of our senses such as taste, smell, sight and sounds to set a stage the tragedies yet to come. Deneau suggests this story may be a reflection of a sexual experience. In both of these cases an escape from the true reality is possible. (1) Secret Life of Walter Mitty A.
