My Music Concert
Today, I went to the symphony for the first time. Not much of a thrilling opener, huh? What if I
elaborated to say the closest I have ever gotten to a symphony was a grade four band concert, in
which my little brother played the saxophone (he quit the following year.) Maybe I could compare
this experience to all the DIY rock shows I attended back home in basements/back rooms where the
sounds could be loud enough to deafen people standing outside and the heat could bring almost
anyone to immediate sickness, but that seems a little crude. The bottom line is, I have never been
fortunate enough to encounter the amount or complexity of instruments as I did at Willson
Auditorium. Before continuing, I would like to express sincere gratitude toward requiring, and thus
allowing, me to attend this fantastic concert. I believe that I not only enjoyed a wonderful
performance but also appreciated music with knowledge and context. It is because of said
knowledge and context that the music sounded lifelike, and the connections between instruments
and literary ideas were formed for the first time. Upon arrival to the seats I was surprised by the
vastness of the venue, and the proximity of my seat to the stage (the row directly ahead of me was
front row.) When the musicians took stage, I was slightly disappointed at my inability to see
everyone, however, my view of the double basses was intriguing as I had not realized how large
they actually are (I had never seen one in real life prior.)

Benefits Of Using Recycled Concrete Aggregate
A specific subset of recycled aggregates is recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) where the masonry
content is limited to not more than five per cent. The performance characteristics of RCA are better
than RA and consequently there are fewer restrictions on the use of RCA in concrete (BS 8500–2)
According to a 2004 FHWA study, 38 states recycle concrete as an aggregate base; 11 recycle it into
new Portland cement concrete. The states that do use recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) in new
concrete report that concrete with RCA performs equal to concrete with natural aggregates
It is now predominantly accepted that there is a significant potential for reclaiming and recycling
demolished debris for use in value added applications to increase economic and environmental
benefits. As a direct result of this, recycling industries in many part of the world, including South
Africa, at present converts low–value waste into secondary construction materials such as a variety
of aggregate grades, road materials and aggregate fines. Mostly these materials are used in as road
construction, backfill for retaining walls, low–grade concrete production, drainage and brickwork
and block work for low–cost housing (M C Limbachiya et all,2004).
The recycled pavement has been designed for a traffic loading of 35 million standard axles (msa),
which exceeds what was previously seen as a limit for this recycling technique (30 msa). However,
due to the development of recycling technology and the reducing

East Cooper Community Outreach Program
East Cooper Community Outreach
The non–profit I have chosen for my leadership project is the East Cooper Community Outreach
program. This program is a non–profit organization that was founded in 1989 to assist victims after
Hurricane Hugo. East Cooper Community Outreach, also known as ECCO, offers assistance to the
numerous people in Mount Pleasant living at the poverty level, also known as the "working poor."
ECCO is essential to the community and we will learn about this organization's genesis and the
significant ways it has contributed to the residents of East Cooper.
As a single mother who became a divorcee in the year of 2001, I found myself with no working
skills and no career prospects. My ex–husband suffered from substance abuse ... Show more content

Several other churches joined with Christ our King to work within the community to rebuild and as
a result ECCO was born. The organization is non–profit and the current Director is Mr. Jack Little.
According to the ECCO website, the mission statement for ECCO is: "To provide safety net services
to our low income neighbors, while empowering them to create a better future for themselves, their
families, and our communities. All programs and services strive to guide clients toward self–
sufficiency. ECCO 's ministry of 'Helping Neighbors Help Themselves' attempts to improve the
quality of life in our community in a compassionate way that respects the dignity and worth of every
person." (ECCO)
Mr. Jack Little, the current executive director, has been with ECCO since 2005. During a personal
interview with Mr. Little, he informed me that as a youth he had worked for his father and had
planned to continue with that professional as his career choice. He explained that he decided to alter
his career direction when "God called me to work in this type of work on a mission trip in
Philadelphia six years after I graduated from Business School with a degree in Management. I then
went to seminary and started this line of work a couple of years later." (Little)
The leadership style of Mr. Little is best described in his own words: "I lead best in a participatory

Understand the nature of the business, the industry and key competitors. ECCO has a unique
competitive environment and holds a distinct advantage from it 's competitors. Most of ECCO 's
competitors are "branded marketers", who do not produce most of their offerings, they brand and
market them. These competitors include Clarks, Geox, and Timberland, along with indirect
competitors such as Nike and Adidas. ECCO is not a branded marketer, but uses a fully integrated
vertical value chain where they produce many of their own materials. ECCO makes nearly all of
their own products in different countries, but in their own facilities unlike competitors. ECCO

Strategic factors include keeping competition high and not relying on just one factory for
manufacturing. ECCO has several plants that manufacture the shoes and deal with tanning, which is
good for competition and to keep quality high. Identify key personnel and understand their
management /leadership styles. Family ownership affects ECCO in several ways. It has allowed the
company to keep executives with knowledge of the company in key positions due to their loyalty to
the company. CEO Karl Toosbuy had left the company several times only to comeback because of
his experience and knowledge of the company. Karl Toosbuy commented on the family ownership
structure by stating that "The family can take higher risks", and "we act instead of wait". Toosbuy
believes that the family ownership is a strength and not a weakness for ECCO. Having the company
owner within a family means that they are not necessarily the smartest and most qualified business
people, but could have ownership in the company just because of their bloodline. Corporate
Ownership The corporate ownership structure is the most popular structure for large companies.
Often when family is involved, unnecessary family issues can interfere with the business. Corporate

Classroom Reflection Paper
As kids, most of us get up every morning dreading going to school. We beg our parents to let us stay
home, and on occasion, fake sick just to get out of school for a day. There are many factors that
attribute to making us want to stay home from school but as a teacher, I want to provide an
atmosphere where students enjoy coming to my classroom. Kids should feel like they matter and are
respected when they are learning in a classroom, and from the learning experiences that I have had
and will gain in ECCO, I intend to provide an atmosphere where not only can they can flourish and
thrive, but they are able to influence the world around them.

Shy, outspoken, eager to make friends, or one that prefers to be alone, they all matter and they all
should feel welcome in my classroom. Ms. Henson did an excellent job turning me into a confident
student. I know this will not be the case with every student. Challenges will be presented. Some
students will have no desire to learn, some will act out, and some will not fit in, but my hope as a
teacher is to face these challenges by listening, being present, encouraging students, and showing
them that they all matter by not lumping them together.
The second example of a teacher that changed the way I viewed teaching and learning is Ms.
Gardner. Ms. Gardner was my high school math teacher. She combined two very important aspects
that I want to incorporate when I become a teacher. She included my parents in the learning
experience and she made students feel capable of learning what seemed like the hardest equations
possible. I struggled with math once I entered into high school; I could not comprehend the subject.
Ms. Gardner was the second math teach I had in high school, and she ended up being the best. She
called a parent teacher conference because I was on the verge of failing the class. Ms. Gardner sat
down with all of us and presented study tips for not only me, but my parents. She gave them a mini
math lesson so they would be better equipped to teach me at home. Not my parents nor I were

The human body absorbs great amounts of what we apply to the skin in seconds, and this is

How well does this configuration match the drivers in the industry? Ownership of tanneries,
factories and leather research centers maintained the firm's brand of commitment to quality and
boosted the company's ambition and confidence in delivering products that met customer
expectations In reducing the number of vendors, the company was able to maintain high quality
levels through close quality control measures and maintain its brand image of working to create the
perfect shoe.
The firm also made compromises to its approach in some cases by outsourcing its production for
shoes that could not benefit from its in–house technology. Most firms in the shoe industry
outsourced production as a way to cut production and vendor logistic costs.
3. ECCO has a fully integrated vertical value chain. What are the pros and cons of this strategy?

Pros:
Higher demands of quality can be achieved (e.g. through better quality control) supports the

Reflection of Short Story Mercy Essay

Mercy Essay
Professor Malloy

Steel–Toeless
In Pinckney Benedict's 2008 short story "Mercy," the narrator and his father both take pride in their
family's ranch. The narrator works hard for his father each day, taking breaks only to sneak treats to
the miniature horses being kept on the neighbor's ranch nearby. The narrator's father; however, does
not show the same compassion for the animals as his son. He is adamant about keeping the horses
off of his land and warns his son that he will shoot to first to intrude. The narrator views his father in
a very austere manner.
When we are first introduced to the narrator's father we find that he has a no–nonsense view of life.
He does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The father knows how much the horses means to his son, so giving him this job shows that he does
not actually want to have to kill them. In addition, the father takes the time to ask his son about the
horses when he finds his son out on the fence, "What makes them run like that?" (125). He even
goes as far to ask if his son would like to own one. The narrator is hesitant to answer, not sure if it a
trick question or not. He answers truthfully, saying yes that he would like to own one. It is at this
moment that we first see the fathers caring side. The father is showing an interest in what matters to
his son.
Second, the father shows he is empathetic. For instance, when the narrator finds himself waiting on
his father while he loads the steers into the trailer to take to the stockyard. His father insisted that he
stay in the cab as he did not have steel–toed boots and could easily lose a toe, just as he had done.
Again this shows how his father is worried about more than just getting work done. The narrator is
intently watching in the rearview mirror as his father loads his favorite steer, Rug, onto the trailer
and then finishes up with the others. Just then his father stopped. "When they were all embarked,
when for the moment his work was done, his face fell slack and dull, and his shoulders slumped.
And for a brief instant he stood still, motionless, as I had never

Eco Sedentary Group Analysis
History is defined as "An encompassing discipline that explores the 'connectedness of historical
events and human experiences" by the American Historical Association in a 1990 report. "ECCO"
stands for Expectations, Constraints, Choices, and Outcomes. "ECCO" is our method of analysis of
historic events. Just like scientists use the "Scientific Method", we use "ECCO". Native Americans
began living in the Americas around 30,000–40,000 years ago. This shows that the Europeans were
not the first Americans since they began settling in 1492. Some of the early semi–sedentary groups

Crocs Shoes Itself in Global Supply Chain
By: Hanan Alzayied KMBS student–Kuwait–July2012 Crocs Shoes itself in Global Supply Chain
Abstract: Crocs, Inc. is a U.S. based shoe designer, manufacturer, and retailer that launched its
business in 2002 selling Crocs™ brand casual plastic clogs with straps in a variety of solid, bright
colors, Crocs™ introduced an innovative shoe made of a revolutionary material called Croslite™
technology which held unique characteristics that allowed it to perform on both land and in water.
The company created its own fashion phenomenon and was given the name Crocs™ after the multi–
environment, amphibious nature of Crocodiles in which they add fun by designing a crocodile face

For consumer customers, Crocs designed a broad and extensive distribution system so its shoes were
available in a variety of retail outlets from specialty stores to department stores and large shoe store
chains. Marketing & Promotion Crocs used creative merchandising (out–of–box vertical displays).
Costs were lowered by the elimination of standard box packaging for individual pairs of shoes. They
were also decreased by the reduction of stock–keeping units (fewer styles, sizes, etc) and by the use
of inexpensive plastic resin material (Croslite) compared to other fabrics which allowed Crocs to
lower manufacturing costs because product could be made faster and cheaper using injection
molding machines compared to traditional labor intensive methods. This speedy production, also
made it possible for Crocs to revolutionize the traditional supply chain approach and make its shoes
available to a wide range of retailers and consumers. Differentiation was achieved by creating a
completely new type of fashionable and functional shoe that was extremely comfortable to wear and
fun because of its bright colors. in addition, because of Crocs' innovative inventory replenishment
system, which allowed retailers to order what they needed and get new stock in a couple of weeks,
retailers did not need to

Globalization has changed the competitive landscape of all businesses and the footwear industry is
no exception. Datamonitor's profile of the industry estimates that in 2008 the global footwear market
was valued at $196.6 billion and projects that figure to grow to 232.1 billion by 2013. How can
firms such as CROCS or ECCO succeed in this global market? Datamonitor points out that this
industry is highly competitive and that rivalry between firms is strong. A key success factor for the
footwear industry is the successful development and management of a profitable supply chain.

As demand for their product skyrocketed, CROCS was able to manufacture the needed supply
quickly and flexibly which made them very popular with retailers. Anderson points out that their
battle plan was to "think bigger than you are," an approach the CEO had learned at his previous
employer. By building the infrastructure ahead of demand CROCS was able to capitalize on the
unexpected explosion in their product's popularity. However, depending on one propriety product
which is easily imitated and making changes to an industry's supply chain does not add up to an
enduring value–adding vision that sustains a brand through normal economic cycles. ECCO on the
other hand has a compelling vision on their website: "to be the most wanted brand within innovation
and comfort footwear." They work towards this vision with passion as Neilson points out that they
"remain extremely committed to comfort, design and a perfectly fitting shoe." These are values any
consumer would appreciate and when successfully executed will create repeat customers. ECCO

Innovation : The Business Blitz Essay
Innovation – The Business Blitz As head of global training for my former employer, ECCO
Footwear, I was always faced with the challenge of designing innovative methods to develop
employees and facilitate sales results. This problem presented itself wholehearted when our owner
and CEO became concerned with the sales performance of our three owned and operated stores in
the greater Copenhagen area. Despite robust inventories and prime real estate, KPIs were trending
down, and there was little confidence on the shop floor towards the business as a whole.
The executive decision was made to "hand over" all business responsibilities to me, making me fully
accountable for both management and overall sales performance. By the following Monday, I was
the proud "owner" of three stores producing three million dollars' worth of business. I might add the
fact that Danish culture supports a socialist mindset which in theory, contradicts capitalistic
practices. Without a doubt, a new, pioneering commercial solution was required to address the task
at hand – expeditiously.
As a sales veteran and a psychology major, I adopted a comprehensive, three–faceted approach. It
focused on both quantitative (KPIs) and qualitative (behaviors) factors to identify and improve the
challenges at hand. The third aspect, was a motivational catalyst to incentivize the newly created
"positive habits" of staff members to improve the results. Collectively, the plan provided a clear

Animal Research : Is It Human Or Inhuman?
Animal research in psychology is a controversial issue that has raised many questions on whether it

humans are not very different from each other; hence, asking why not test on humans too if it is

after an experiment. Now many people may agree with Singer and find this inhumane but will agree

Essay on Dansko, Inc.
Introduction
Beginning in 1990, the "Danish Clog" was brought to life in the United States. It began as a small
company selling the shoes at horse shows but quickly grew larger than was imagined. Expansion of
the product went from a single closed back clog to over 3000 products being sold in over 3,500
retail locations. During the past fifteen years there have been many offers to sell interest in the
company. You are now becoming concerned that the company that was such as success all of these
years may not be structured appropriately to promote further growth. You are now faced with a
decision on how to can move forward. Should you consider a merger that will allow growth and a

The top competitors in this specific category are Birkenstock, Ecco, and Mephisto. Birkenstock, also
a privately owned company, has been distributing shoes about thirty five years longer than Dansko.
They produce a well known brand of clogs which are priced just about the same as Dansko. Ecco is
a large international distributor of shoes. They are the largest competitor with annual revenues of
approximately $4 billion. The number of employees is more than 10 times of Dansko at around
12,000. Their largest distribution of sales is in Central Europe but they are still well known in the
United States. Lastly, Mephisto is the smallest of all the competition. The company's annual sales
are less than $500,000 and they have around 5 employees. They do not seem to pose much risk to
Dansko.
Core Competencies
Dansko has fairly strong core competencies. The shoes are uniquely valued by their customers and
therefore bring good returns. The shoes are made for comfort and they live to their standards. This
strongly influences people to choose the product. Dansko shoes are not easily imitated because they
were only manufactured by one company and they only manufactured the shoes for Dansko. The

not shown on the surface, but, nevertheless, it was still an appealing game to play. I completed the
game through multiple sitting on June 25th, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Now, the main problems I
had with this playthrough was the pacing and difficulty level. There's an underground cave level
where you must use your sonar to push a manta ray through a series of labyrinthine tunnels. If you
screw up, which I did, and allow the manta to escape, you'll have to keep returning to his cave to
retrieve him and start the process all over again. Of course, people ... Show more content on

Communication Assets Project (CAP)
Sandra Manchor
University of Phoenix Abstract
This paper discusses the implementation phase of the Communications Assets Project (CAP)
Software Configuration Management (SCM). CAP is an interoperable communications inventory
software package. The project manager for CAP has asked for an analysis for software configuration
management. This paper includes the six major activities: coding, testing, installation,
documentation, training and support. This document is a discussion on the transition from the design

The server will require allocated and reallocated memory during processing. Should out of memory
errors occur, the design will have to be reviewed and additional memory allocated to the servers and
clients.
Installation
During the installation phase of implementation, SKM proposes using a parallel implementation.
Initially, SKM proposes using a prototype of the system and having 6 key personnel use the system
from their desktops. Once these personnel are familiar with the system and are comfortable with it,
SKM will introduce a train–the trainer program which will enable these key personnel to return to
the workforce and train other employees in their areas. The new system will be run in parallel with
the old manual system. Running the systems in parallel is expected to have no impact on the
development of CAP. CAP 's IT team will install the hardware on the network during a weekend and
run tests on the systems to make sure they are up and running. Should the IT team encounter any
problems, it will return the following weekend. SKM has allocated funding should it be required.
Documentation
During the implementation phase, several documents will be produced to help in the maintenance
and support of the system. These documents will be used by CAP 's IT team. During testing, user
manuals and operational manuals were produced that will help all personnel use the system. During
this time, training manuals will be produced separately from the

Personal Narrative: My Lymphoma Is In Remission
Remission. I am thankful to share that the PET scan indicated that my lymphoma is in remission.
Going forward, I will need to see the doctor every few months and be scanned every six. We are
praying that I will be cured from this and for continued direction, how does God want us to use what
we learned during these past 6 months? God allowed this to happen for a reason and we do not want
to forget the lessons He taught us or what He may be calling us to do as a result. Be careful that you
do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I

Deuteronomio 8:11 As I have mentioned, there were many ups and downs, for myself & maybe
even more so for my family. After the hematoma developed, I complained to a friend, "How could

Analyzing Giotto's The Lamentation
The lamentation by Giotto depicts the death of christ and the subsequent morning of his followers
including Marry, after he removed from the cross. The scene itself is nothing new, it has been
depicted countless of times before. It is Giotto's revolutionary style, or rather his regressive style,
that brought European art back to a more realistic depiction of figures in religious art. In The
Lamentation the viewer can sense a three dimensional space in which the subjects inhabit. In
addition to giving the work a little depth, Giotto also added figures that did not serve a narrative
purpose and only existed to assist the viewer's eye and provide a surrogate figure for the viewer to
identify with. These figure have their back s turned to

Indira Gandhi, Former Prime Minister of India: A Hero to...
The concept of heroes in the daily life of an ordinary man is ancient. The first known use of this
word was back in the 14th century. A hero is generally a person who displays extraordinary bravery
and readiness for self–sacrifice, and is therefore praised by all. In almost all cultures, a hero is a
symbol of strength, courage, nobility and selflessness. The list of qualities of a hero does not end
here; a hero also has to be intelligent, daring, self–reliant for the most part, resistant in the face of
hardships and must have the will to try where others do not. In ancient Greek culture, a hero was
usually a demigod with supernatural powers charged with the duty of completing extremely difficult
and dangerous tasks, examples being Achilles, Perseus and Hercules. In Egyptian mythology, the
Gods and Goddesses were the heroes as were some humans, like Queen Cleopatra. In ancient Indian
literature, figures from folklore are considered heroes, like Birbal, Majnu and Ranjha. A hero can
also simply be someone who has achieved what one cannot, or what one hopes to achieve. In this
way, Indira Gandhi, former prime minister of India, was a hero to the Indian nation. In the eyes of
many Indians, she was a role model for women everywhere, and for the Third World countries. She
was an epitome of decisiveness, commitment, strong will and determination. Being a female, which
is considered the weaker gender, she still was the head of the world's most populous democracy for

The Utopia Of Communism : Why No Communist Country Has...
The Utopia of Communism: Why no Communist Country has been Successful
After it was conceived from the mind of Karl Marx, a Communist form of government
has appealed to many societies, especially before and during World War II. Some of the
strongest countries were built on the principles of Communism, such as the USSR. It came to
become an enemy of American values, and challenged the political and civil ideas of that time.
However, it quickly dropped out of popularity, and has come to only being followed moderately
by current communist states. 1 In theory, Communism is supposed to create a utopia, based on
values of equality; however, political, economic, and civil limitations apply strongly to this form
of government, leading to its decline throughout the world.
Karl Marx defined Communism in his book, The Communist Manifesto, which lays out
the complete framework for governing in this type of society. It begins by stating that history is a
series of class struggles, then moves on to target the bourgeoisie, stating that they have been a
force of change, but the changes coming to production are threatening them. 2 He believes that
economic relations alone shape the world, not things such as religion and individual people.
Then, he moves on to explain his view of the proletariat; they are slaves for property, which is
controlled by the bourgeoisie. 3 The plan of communism is to make land into common property,
in which there is no class character to it. This

that many of them are thriving and can help us paint a clearer picture of the world's present.
Underrepresented, yet these creatures do seem to be getting more credit lately, a sign of growing
interest. Robert Sullivan's richly engaging, best–selling book, Rats (Bloomsbury USA 2005),
remains popular but only profiles one of the creatures in my book. Richard Mabey's much beloved
Weeds (Ecco 2012) profiles and defends what you might expect, leaving the rest of misfit–kind to
another author's thorough engagement. Jim Sterba's fascinating Nature Wars (Broadway Books
2012) examines human–species conflicts but focuses narrowly on the phenomenon of creatures
invading suburbs. Dawn Day Biehler's book Pests in the City ( University of Washington Press

If operations were outsourced, they would not be able to oversee all aspects of production and insure
that quality was high.
Vertical Value Chain Benefits
Hosting your own in–house vertical value chain has many benefits for a business like ECCO. ECCO
's many facilities in different countries can take advantage of local resources and expertise in
different areas like the leather research center in Denmark. Another benefit is being able to oversee
operations and produce products faster. Inventory can be controlled efficiently, meaning that ECCO
can wait longer to produce items to match market mean due to how long it would take to place an
order with an outsourced manufacturer and to receive that order to deliver to customers.
Vertical Value Chain Cons
The main negative for ECCO in having an integrated vertical value chain is increased costs over
competitors. For most shoe companies, the cheapest option is to outsource manufacturing, which is
what most of ECCO 's competitors have done. Another con of keeping production within the
company is that when no competition is present, often production is slow and inefficient. Managing
the cons is vital for ECCO, which they have been able to do.
Economic & Strategic Factors Considered with Integrated Value Chain
Economic factors that are faced with an integrated value chain include high labor costs. If producing

Serenea by Ron Rash
In life there is jealousy and revenge with in all people. In the book Serena by Ron Rash many
underlying conflicts are addressed but jealousy and what a person will do to overcome that jealousy
prevails as it does throughout life. Throughout the book Ron Rash leads the reader down a windy
path of what Serena will do in order to gain the power and to get back at the people who cost her the
most. She uses death and many other vengeful techniques to scare away and hurt the people who
have caused her the most problems. Pemberton also gets revenge on the people who cause him hurt
and problems rather than letting the problems solve themselves. Galloway acts out so many of her
and Pemberton's revenge killings without hesitation. Ron Rash is trying to show that with life there
are many different ways people show their jealousy and revenge. Like when the book tells of when
Serena and Pemberton arrive in North Carolina, Serena has a tinge of jealousy when dealing with
Rachel and the unborn child. Although Pemberton kills Rachel's father, Serena still has some tension
with her in the beginning. Serena says to Rachel, "By all rights it belongs to my husband. It's a fine
knife, and you can get a good price for it if you demand one, and I would. Sell it, I mean. That
money will help when the child is born. It's all you'll ever get from my husband and me" (Rash 10).
This sets the idea of Serena's jealousy of Rachel and although she is carrying a child Serena
encourages the death of her

East Cooper Community Outreach Program
East Cooper Community Outreach
The project I have chosen for my leadership project is the East Cooper Community Outreach
program. This program is a non–profit organization that was founded in 1989 to assist victims after
Hurricane Hugo. East Cooper Community Outreach, also known as ECCO, offers assistance to the
many people in Mount Pleasant living at the poverty level, also known as the "working poor."
ECCO is vital to the community and we will learn about this organization's origin and the significant
ways it has contributed to the residents of East Cooper.
As a single mother who became divorced in the year of 2001, I found myself with no working skills
and no career prospects. My ex–husband suffered from substance abuse and he basically left my
daughters and I completely stunned. I was not aware at this particular time of the ECCO
organization or any other assistance program for that matter. As a result, we struggled but we did
survive. I feel very connected to this organization because I believe the purpose it serves is
invaluable to the community and that it is a lifeline to those who are sinking, hopeless and
approaching homelessness.
ECCO was founded in 1989 after the devastation of Hurricane Hugo left so many residents in
despair. After the storm, Monsignor James Carter, of Christ our King Catholic Church, realized the
need for assistance to those whose lives had been turned upside down by the storm. Several other

him and his experiences. He also uses metaphors and personification in a variety of poems. An
article made by Los Angeles Times has a quote from Daniel Halpern that states "I've been after the

Lastly, we will analyze the poem Careless Perfections poem is talking about a Chinese love. The
poem states, "a poet of nature who wrote a single love poem, a poem thought by Chinese dilettantes

solutions may it present?
Similarities: As ECCO had been very successful in the footwear industry by focusing on production

Therefore, manufacturers face a trade–off between gain from the efficient technology and loss from
paying the information rent. When a firm decides on in–house production instead of outsourcing,
although a manufacturer can obtain the entire profit, it loses the gain from the cost efficiency of
outsourcing. When outsourcing is selected, although a manufacturer can acquire the gain from cost
efficiency, it is required to share the gain with the outsourcer.
The objective of these establishments, apart from achieving labor cost savings, was to spread risk.
Initially, the various production sites were capable of producing the same types of shoes, indicating
an insignificant degree of specialization in the production units. However, in recent years ECCO had
strived to narrow each unit and capitalize on its core competencies.
We should consider this trade–off from ECCO case, between in–house production and outsourcing
when faced with cost uncertainty and competition with a rival manufacturer in a differentiated goods
market. When the management decides on selecting organizational forms, technological uncertainty
on production activities often ensues. Thus, a manufacturer faces uncertainty when choosing
between in–house production and outsourcing. Moreover, because almost all modern firms are in a

What is Literature? Why Study Literature? People often think that literature is one thing, not
knowing that it is in actuality composed of several elements that we all use in our daily lives.
Literature is the foundation of life. It places an emphasis on many topics from human tragedies to
tales of the ever popular search for love. While it is physically written in words, these words come
alive in the imagination of the mind, and its ability to comprehend the complexity or simplicity of
the text. Literature is a journey that is inscribed in pages, and powered by the imagination of the

decide to portray it. Poetry is that desire deep down in your heart that can be written in any way,
shape or form. It has no mistakes, wrong answers or rules. Poetry in my opinion is a way to
communicate through the written word. Through literature, people can share ideas, give advice, give
the reader a glimpse of a certain period in history, or give a peek into the mind and thoughts of
various personality types.. Literature is of great importance and is studied upon as it provides the

Kosciuszko Bridge
Introduction The Kosciuszko bridge, named after the Polish–American patriot Tadeusz Kosciuszko,
is the bridge that carries the Brooklyn–Queens Expressway across Newtown Creek, and is situated
between Brooklyn and Queens. The current bridge carries over 160,000 vehicles every day, and it is
recognized as being essential infrastructure for commerce on both a local and regional scale. The
bridge is 75 years old, and has been continually maintained by New York State Department of
Transportation (NYSDOT). In 2014, the state announced that a new bridge would be built by the
frim Skanska Kiewit and ECCO III with the goal of reducing congestion, improving travel speeds,
and improving traffic safety on this stretch of the Brooklyn–Queens Expressway. Governor Cuomo
provided an initial $555 million, which is the largest single contract in NYSDOT's history. The
following report covers the project in detail, and will include information on the background,
location, justification, planning and schedule, public scope, environmental impact, and implications
for the project.
Background
Construction on the Kosciuszko Bridge was completed in 1939, prior to the construction of the

person." (ECCO)
Mr. Jack Little, the current executive director, has been associated with ECCO since 2005. During a
personal interview with Mr. Little, he informed me that as a youth he had worked for his father and
had originally planned to continue with that professional as his career choice. He explained that he
decided to alter his career direction when "God called me to work in this type of work on a mission
trip in Philadelphia six years after I graduated from Business School with a degree in Management. I
then went to seminary and started this line of work a couple of years later." (Little)

The study abroad program that I am most interested in would have to be the Semester at Sea. The
program is offered in the Fall and Spring. The ship travels to over twelve countries where students
are able to gain hands on field experience, and meaningful engagement in the global community.
(semesteratsea.org) "Our program exposes students to cultures that most students have only read
about in books. Exposure to new cultures and people of the world will give new perspectives."
(semesteratsea.org) "While in each country you will have the opportunity to participate in field labs,
field programs and other actives that will help push your understanding of the world into new
directions." I am looking forward to tacking advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity to
travel the world. I plan to participate in this program the summer of my junior year here at Bowling
Green. I highly suggest Bowling Green to any student looking at colleges because of their; excellent

Benefits Of Golf Shoes
Golf Shoes: How to Choose the Best?
The golf shoes , initially were uncomfortable and heavy. However, with the passage of time they
have been modified so that the footwear looks good, is light, flexible and suitable to the field of
play. Some have benefits for better swing and stance.
In addition, it should be considered, that as in all sports, golf clothing should be the perfect to make
a better game. The parties last about 5 hours and walk 8 kilometers, so the shoes should not only be
an accessory, but should provide the necessary comfort.
Types of Golf Shoes
Classics: Like golf, these types of shoes are elegant and similar to those of dress .
Sport: Just like a sport shoe, it looks very casual. Perfect for younger players, they are made of very
comfortable materials.

That fits your foot: just like the shoes we wear on a daily basis, golf shoes should fit your foot
perfectly so that when being in a game you get the most stability and in no way you feel
uncomfortable by Your shoes Try the shoes before making the purchase, and always consider using
a shoe to give the best fit to your feet.
Price: We know that golf is one of the sports with more monetary demand, therefore, the price of the
shoes oscillates from 80 €. Of course, the higher quality shoes, more durable and more beneficial to
our feet will be the most expensive.
Impermeability: One of the most important characteristics when buying a pair of shoes is this. Some
shoes have this guarantee, so you must always be aware of this great detail.
How often do you play? If your game frequency is active, you can not hesitate to bet on a shoe of
the highest quality, as it will give you the use that is due. On the other hand, if it's little play or just
for fun, buy some that are good quality, but may not be the

When they start their own factory in Turkey they need local employees and they can give them good
salaries and for example a pair of Ecco shoes.

Growing stage
ECCO is a well–developed company. Each step they take they try to improve every stage in the
value chain. They are very efficient and you can see this in their increasing sales. They got
companies all over the world and one main objective is minimizing their costs. They do this by
example having companies all over world instead of exporting their goods. This will help ECCO
reduce taxes on export goods. They can do this in Turkey by creating their own factory and have
local employees.
Value chain
Ecco controls the entire value chain from cow to customer. One of Ecco's most important raw
materials is high–grade leather and that is the reason why they have operated their own tanneries in
the Netherlands, Thailand and Indonesia for many years. The tanneries help ensure that the
important raw material is always in compliance with Ecco's tough quality standards. Ecco's
tanneries are among the world's leading suppliers of high–quality leather for car and airplane seats,
gloves, bags and shoes manufactured by other companies. In order to meet the growing demand,
they initiated the construction of a tannery near the factory in Xiamen, China in October 2007. The
tannery, which will be one of the worlds's most advanced tanneries from a production and
environmental point of

My Music Concert

  • 1. My Music Concert Today, I went to the symphony for the first time. Not much of a thrilling opener, huh? What if I elaborated to say the closest I have ever gotten to a symphony was a grade four band concert, in which my little brother played the saxophone (he quit the following year.) Maybe I could compare this experience to all the DIY rock shows I attended back home in basements/back rooms where the sounds could be loud enough to deafen people standing outside and the heat could bring almost anyone to immediate sickness, but that seems a little crude. The bottom line is, I have never been fortunate enough to encounter the amount or complexity of instruments as I did at Willson Auditorium. Before continuing, I would like to express sincere gratitude toward requiring, and thus allowing, me to attend this fantastic concert. I believe that I not only enjoyed a wonderful performance but also appreciated music with knowledge and context. It is because of said knowledge and context that the music sounded lifelike, and the connections between instruments and literary ideas were formed for the first time. Upon arrival to the seats I was surprised by the vastness of the venue, and the proximity of my seat to the stage (the row directly ahead of me was front row.) When the musicians took stage, I was slightly disappointed at my inability to see everyone, however, my view of the double basses was intriguing as I had not realized how large they actually are (I had never seen one in real life prior.) ... • 3. Benefits Of Using Recycled Concrete Aggregate A specific subset of recycled aggregates is recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) where the masonry content is limited to not more than five per cent. The performance characteristics of RCA are better than RA and consequently there are fewer restrictions on the use of RCA in concrete (BS 8500–2) According to a 2004 FHWA study, 38 states recycle concrete as an aggregate base; 11 recycle it into new Portland cement concrete. The states that do use recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) in new concrete report that concrete with RCA performs equal to concrete with natural aggregates It is now predominantly accepted that there is a significant potential for reclaiming and recycling demolished debris for use in value added applications to increase economic and environmental benefits. As a direct result of this, recycling industries in many part of the world, including South Africa, at present converts low–value waste into secondary construction materials such as a variety of aggregate grades, road materials and aggregate fines. Mostly these materials are used in as road construction, backfill for retaining walls, low–grade concrete production, drainage and brickwork and block work for low–cost housing (M C Limbachiya et all,2004). The recycled pavement has been designed for a traffic loading of 35 million standard axles (msa), which exceeds what was previously seen as a limit for this recycling technique (30 msa). This program is a non–profit organization that was founded in 1989 to assist victims after Hurricane Hugo. East Cooper Community Outreach, also known as ECCO, offers assistance to the numerous people in Mount Pleasant living at the poverty level, also known as the "working poor." ECCO is essential to the community and we will learn about this organization's genesis and the significant ways it has contributed to the residents of East Cooper. Most of ECCO 's competitors are "branded marketers", who do not produce most of their offerings, they brand and market them. These competitors include Clarks, Geox, and Timberland, along with indirect competitors such as Nike and Adidas. ECCO is not a branded marketer, but uses a fully integrated vertical value chain where they produce many of their own materials. ECCO has several plants that manufacture the shoes and deal with tanning, which is good for competition and to keep quality high. Identify key personnel and understand their management /leadership styles. Family ownership affects ECCO in several ways. It has allowed the company to keep executives with knowledge of the company in key positions due to their loyalty to the company. CEO Karl Toosbuy had left the company several times only to comeback because of his experience and knowledge of the company. Karl Toosbuy commented on the family ownership structure by stating that "The family can take higher risks", and "we act instead of wait". Toosbuy believes that the family ownership is a strength and not a weakness for ECCO. Having the company owner within a family means that they are not necessarily the smartest and most qualified business people, but could have ownership in the company just because of their bloodline. We beg our parents to let us stay home, and on occasion, fake sick just to get out of school for a day. There are many factors that attribute to making us want to stay home from school but as a teacher, I want to provide an atmosphere where students enjoy coming to my classroom. Kids should feel like they matter and are respected when they are learning in a classroom, and from the learning experiences that I have had and will gain in ECCO, I intend to provide an atmosphere where not only can they can flourish and thrive, but they are able to influence the world around them. Ms. Henson did an excellent job turning me into a confident student. I know this will not be the case with every student. Challenges will be presented. Some students will have no desire to learn, some will act out, and some will not fit in, but my hope as a teacher is to face these challenges by listening, being present, encouraging students, and showing them that they all matter by not lumping them together. The second example of a teacher that changed the way I viewed teaching and learning is Ms. Gardner. Ms. Gardner was my high school math teacher. She combined two very important aspects that I want to incorporate when I become a teacher. She included my parents in the learning experience and she made students feel capable of learning what seemed like the hardest equations possible. I struggled with math once I entered into high school; I could not comprehend the subject. Ms. Gardner was the second math teach I had in high school, and she ended up being the best. She called a parent teacher conference because I was on the verge of failing the class. Ms. Gardner sat down with all of us and presented study tips for not only me, but my parents. Reflection of Short Story Mercy Essay Hunter Hendricks Mercy Essay Professor Malloy 17 October 2012 Steel–Toeless In Pinckney Benedict's 2008 short story "Mercy," the narrator and his father both take pride in their family's ranch. The narrator works hard for his father each day, taking breaks only to sneak treats to the miniature horses being kept on the neighbor's ranch nearby. The narrator's father; however, does not show the same compassion for the animals as his son. He is adamant about keeping the horses off of his land and warns his son that he will shoot to first to intrude. The narrator views his father in a very austere manner. The father knows how much the horses means to his son, so giving him this job shows that he does not actually want to have to kill them. In addition, the father takes the time to ask his son about the horses when he finds his son out on the fence, "What makes them run like that?" (125). He even goes as far to ask if his son would like to own one. The narrator is hesitant to answer, not sure if it a trick question or not. He answers truthfully, saying yes that he would like to own one. It is at this moment that we first see the fathers caring side. The father is showing an interest in what matters to his son. Second, the father shows he is empathetic. For instance, when the narrator finds himself waiting on his father while he loads the steers into the trailer to take to the stockyard. His father insisted that he stay in the cab as he did not have steel–toed boots and could easily lose a toe, just as he had done. Again this shows how his father is worried about more than just getting work done. The narrator is intently watching in the rearview mirror as his father loads his favorite steer, Rug, onto the trailer and then finishes up with the others. Just then his father stopped. "When they were all embarked, when for the moment his work was done, his face fell slack and dull, and his shoulders slumped. And for a brief instant he stood still, motionless, as I had never ... They were also decreased by the reduction of stock–keeping units (fewer styles, sizes, etc) and by the use of inexpensive plastic resin material (Croslite) compared to other fabrics which allowed Crocs to lower manufacturing costs because product could be made faster and cheaper using injection molding machines compared to traditional labor intensive methods. This speedy production, also made it possible for Crocs to revolutionize the traditional supply chain approach and make its shoes available to a wide range of retailers and consumers. • 29. Innovation : The Business Blitz Essay Innovation – The Business Blitz As head of global training for my former employer, ECCO Footwear, I was always faced with the challenge of designing innovative methods to develop employees and facilitate sales results. This problem presented itself wholehearted when our owner and CEO became concerned with the sales performance of our three owned and operated stores in the greater Copenhagen area. Despite robust inventories and prime real estate, KPIs were trending down, and there was little confidence on the shop floor towards the business as a whole. The executive decision was made to "hand over" all business responsibilities to me, making me fully accountable for both management and overall sales performance. By the following Monday, I was the proud "owner" of three stores producing three million dollars' worth of business. I might add the fact that Danish culture supports a socialist mindset which in theory, contradicts capitalistic practices. Without a doubt, a new, pioneering commercial solution was required to address the task at hand – expeditiously. As a sales veteran and a psychology major, I adopted a comprehensive, three–faceted approach. It focused on both quantitative (KPIs) and qualitative (behaviors) factors to identify and improve the challenges at hand. The third aspect, was a motivational catalyst to incentivize the newly created "positive habits" of staff members to improve the results. Collectively, the plan provided a clear picture of where the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Indira Gandhi, Former Prime Minister of India: A Hero to... The concept of heroes in the daily life of an ordinary man is ancient. The first known use of this word was back in the 14th century. A hero is generally a person who displays extraordinary bravery and readiness for self–sacrifice, and is therefore praised by all. In almost all cultures, a hero is a symbol of strength, courage, nobility and selflessness. The list of qualities of a hero does not end here; a hero also has to be intelligent, daring, self–reliant for the most part, resistant in the face of hardships and must have the will to try where others do not. In ancient Greek culture, a hero was usually a demigod with supernatural powers charged with the duty of completing extremely difficult and dangerous tasks, examples being Achilles, Perseus and Hercules. In Egyptian mythology, the Gods and Goddesses were the heroes as were some humans, like Queen Cleopatra. In ancient Indian literature, figures from folklore are considered heroes, like Birbal, Majnu and Ranjha. A hero can also simply be someone who has achieved what one cannot, or what one hopes to achieve. In this way, Indira Gandhi, former prime minister of India, was a hero to the Indian nation. In the eyes of many Indians, she was a role model for women everywhere, and for the Third World countries. She was an epitome of decisiveness, commitment, strong will and determination. Being a female, which is considered the weaker gender, she still was the head of the world's most populous democracy for more than a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Utopia of Communism: Why no Communist Country has been Successful After it was conceived from the mind of Karl Marx, a Communist form of government has appealed to many societies, especially before and during World War II. Some of the strongest countries were built on the principles of Communism, such as the USSR. It came to become an enemy of American values, and challenged the political and civil ideas of that time. However, it quickly dropped out of popularity, and has come to only being followed moderately by current communist states. 1 In theory, Communism is supposed to create a utopia, based on values of equality; however, political, economic, and civil limitations apply strongly to this form of government, leading to its decline throughout the world. Karl Marx defined Communism in his book, The Communist Manifesto, which lays out the complete framework for governing in this type of society. It begins by stating that history is a series of class struggles, then moves on to target the bourgeoisie, stating that they have been a force of change, but the changes coming to production are threatening them. 2 He believes that economic relations alone shape the world, not things such as religion and individual people. Then, he moves on to explain his view of the proletariat; they are slaves for property, which is controlled by the bourgeoisie. 3 The plan of communism is to make land into common property, in which there is no class character to it. Interest in this genre is surely seen in contemporary and best– selling practitioners such as Leslie Jamison, Charles D'Ambrosio, Roxane Gay, Eula Biss, John D'Agata, David Lazar, and Patrick Madden. The University of Georgia Press has helped foster this genre with the publication of After Montaigne: Contemporary Essayists Cover the Essays (University of Georgia Press 2015). Robert Sullivan's richly engaging, best–selling book, Rats (Bloomsbury USA 2005), remains popular but only profiles one of the creatures in my book. Richard Mabey's much beloved Weeds (Ecco 2012) profiles and defends what you might expect, leaving the rest of misfit–kind to another author's thorough engagement. Jim Sterba's fascinating Nature Wars (Broadway Books 2012) examines human–species conflicts but focuses narrowly on the phenomenon of creatures invading suburbs. Dawn Day Biehler's book Pests in the City ( University of Washington Press 2013) is an informative investigation but much more scholarly than Pandora's Garden. If operations were outsourced, they would not be able to oversee all aspects of production and insure that quality was high. Vertical Value Chain Benefits Hosting your own in–house vertical value chain has many benefits for a business like ECCO. ECCO 's many facilities in different countries can take advantage of local resources and expertise in different areas like the leather research center in Denmark. Another benefit is being able to oversee operations and produce products faster. Inventory can be controlled efficiently, meaning that ECCO can wait longer to produce items to match market mean due to how long it would take to place an order with an outsourced manufacturer and to receive that order to deliver to customers. Vertical Value Chain Cons The main negative for ECCO in having an integrated vertical value chain is increased costs over competitors. For most shoe companies, the cheapest option is to outsource manufacturing, which is what most of ECCO 's competitors have done. Another con of keeping production within the company is that when no competition is present, often production is slow and inefficient. Managing the cons is vital for ECCO, which they have been able to do. Economic & Strategic Factors Considered with Integrated Value Chain

In the book Serena by Ron Rash many underlying conflicts are addressed but jealousy and what a person will do to overcome that jealousy prevails as it does throughout life. Throughout the book Ron Rash leads the reader down a windy path of what Serena will do in order to gain the power and to get back at the people who cost her the most. She uses death and many other vengeful techniques to scare away and hurt the people who have caused her the most problems. Pemberton also gets revenge on the people who cause him hurt and problems rather than letting the problems solve themselves. Galloway acts out so many of her and Pemberton's revenge killings without hesitation. Ron Rash is trying to show that with life there are many different ways people show their jealousy and revenge. Like when the book tells of when Serena and Pemberton arrive in North Carolina, Serena has a tinge of jealousy when dealing with Rachel and the unborn child. Although Pemberton kills Rachel's father, Serena still has some tension with her in the beginning. Serena says to Rachel, "By all rights it belongs to my husband. It's a fine knife, and you can get a good price for it if you demand one, and I would. Sell it, I mean. That money will help when the child is born. It's all you'll ever get from my husband and me" (Rash 10). This sets the idea of Serena's jealousy of Rachel and although she is carrying a child Serena encourages the death of her ... This program is a non–profit organization that was founded in 1989 to assist victims after Hurricane Hugo. East Cooper Community Outreach, also known as ECCO, offers assistance to the many people in Mount Pleasant living at the poverty level, also known as the "working poor." ECCO is vital to the community and we will learn about this organization's origin and the significant ways it has contributed to the residents of East Cooper. As a single mother who became divorced in the year of 2001, I found myself with no working skills and no career prospects. My ex–husband suffered from substance abuse and he basically left my daughters and I completely stunned. I was not aware at this particular time of the ECCO organization or any other assistance program for that matter. As a result, we struggled but we did survive. I feel very connected to this organization because I believe the purpose it serves is invaluable to the community and that it is a lifeline to those who are sinking, hopeless and approaching homelessness. ECCO was founded in 1989 after the devastation of Hurricane Hugo left so many residents in despair. When a firm decides on in–house production instead of outsourcing, although a manufacturer can obtain the entire profit, it loses the gain from the cost efficiency of outsourcing. When outsourcing is selected, although a manufacturer can acquire the gain from cost efficiency, it is required to share the gain with the outsourcer. The objective of these establishments, apart from achieving labor cost savings, was to spread risk. Initially, the various production sites were capable of producing the same types of shoes, indicating an insignificant degree of specialization in the production units. However, in recent years ECCO had strived to narrow each unit and capitalize on its core competencies.
