2. The first shot we see is that of a school field which helps to establish
the set and what the movie is based around.
At this point we hear school bells ringing and birds singing which is
diegetic sound which also gives hints for future moments in the movie.
‘A HAMMER PRODUCTION’ takes most dominance of this shot even
though it is not centred. It is in capitals and also in a large font. This
suggests that the production company wants you to take notice of this
but still not to disrupt the shot.
This is a no ‘production splash’ at the start of the movie.
3. As that text leaves the screen we are left with this shot for 20 seconds
before the camera starts to pan.
However as the shot is not changing the sound is as we begin to hear
children talking and shouting as if in a playground but also combined
with what sounds like a train going past really fast.
This leaves the impression of wanting to find out more.
4. The camera begins to pan across the field which is empty. This is
unexpected as the sound of children was so prominent.
The diegetic sound over this shot is a teacher telling their class to be
quiet. Which again shows the theme that this movie involves a school.
5. We now get a slow pan of what looks like the school. This allows
us to take in everything that we are seeing.
This is when at 51 seconds into the movie we get the first actors
name. This is in the same place as ‘HAMMER PROCUCTION’
also the same size but a different font.
We can now hear the sound of children singing a hymn. But
again no people are seen.
6. The camera begins to zoom in at 58 seconds in and then we get the
names of two more actors names. As all the Actors names are show
separately could suggest that they are important and noteworthy.
7. At one minute one second in is when we get the title of the
movie.
This is the biggest font and takes up most of the screen. But it
is also in the same font as ‘HAMMER PRODUCTIONS’ was.
8. We then seen various shots within the school but again with nobody seen.
This shows that there is something not quite right which
links to the genre of Psychological Horror.
We also now seen groups of names of the production
team. With some that is in smaller font to what's been
before.
The hymn is still being sung in the background.
