Conventions
This sequence challenges the conventions.
Opening sequences tend to show the
main actors as well as the main people who
took part in creating the film. This sequence
just has the production company's name and
the studio that helped bring this film too life.
it may sound like a basic opening but it is
more different then a normal opening.

This opening sequence is quite abstract and
it does not give much away in the opening
title sequence. There are many different
styles used in the animation such as at the
start. We see components of a door and
they build into one whole door which gives
that element of mystery, making the
audience wonder how this relates with the
film.
Genre

The genre off the film is very self explanatory through out the title sequence.
When a title sequence tends to be animated it gives the hit it is aimed at children.
Yet it is hard to pinpoint the exact genre of the film, but through out the
title sequence one can say it would be quite an adventurous films. Due to me
Saying this is because of the doors flying about and the way the text is
removed form the screen. It gives that essence off adventure and fun.
Codes
With animated films there does not tend to be a lot
of hidden codes, but there is a certain enigma. When
watching the title sequence one would come to think
what is it with all the doors. There is something going
on with the color scheme as the doors are quite multicoloured. There is defiantly a theme of doors linked
to the film as they are visible in every scene of the
opening sequence. There are some technical codes on
going within this context of doors. They have use editing
well with this and really makes the audience think
of what the film is about.
Watching the sequence one would notice there are
Monsters coming in and out through the sequence and
This gives a certain enigma as what the film is about. The
answer is also in the title of the film ‘Monsters Inc.’
Target Audience

Simple answer to this question would be children. One would say this
is because of the colors used as well as the animation. The monsters
really look like something out of a child's imagination. Even so it can
be said this is a family film, because there no one stopping adults
watching this. The color Scheme and the animation really give it that
factor of fun and there is no reason for the whole family too sit down
and watch this film.
Institution

Straight away as the film starts we are already told
who helped to create this film and the answer is
Pixar. Any one that has ever watched an animation
film would know it tends to be Pixar that helps to
create it, which now gives reassurance that this
would be a good film if they tend to like content that
Pixar provides. In terms of production and distribution
it is in fact Walt Disney, which came up later on into
the title sequence.
Text

The font used in the opening sequence is
very playful and it denotes the idea that
this film would be aimed at children.
However it is not the first time. One could
say it is intertextual as this playful text has
been used in such films as ParaNorman.
This opening sequence is very basic
and simple in terms of text. There is is
not much of it, we do not see an
characters name’s or any actors, one
can almost say this sequence is abstract
because of it. Apart from the institutions
the only other text we see is off the film’s
name. The font used is very different
and again gives that element of fun
making It a family movie. We see two
variants one with a very thin style font
and the other more bold and colorful.
Again this is all animated and the affect
it has on the audience is that they
concentrate on it and it intrigues them
more.
Why Do I Like It

The reason I like this title sequence is due to the fact is is very basic
and has abstract feel too it, but more so it is very entertaining too
watch. The animation used looks nice and it resembles the film well.
there are some Enigma Codes in terms of with the door making
the audience ponder on how it relates. The use of adding monsters
in the sequence once again relates with the title and gives a hint
of what the film is about.
