2. BACKGROUND OF THE RESEARCH
Students have limited vocabulary
The difficulties in determining part of speech
Students difficult to understand the meaning and usage
of word
Nation (2003) states the students who are learning vocabulary need to know at
least 2000 words in English to use a English Dictionaries provided in the packs
containing course material because they find them difficult to understand.
3. Grand Theory
Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary (third
edition), intensity is the strength of something which can
be measured.
Vocabulary is knowledge of words and word meaning.

strong relationship level

Thus, H1 accepted if t
count > t table : it means
the more intense they
use English
dictionaries the more
vocabulary they
master.
KP= 92.16%
It means the students’ intensity
of using English dictionaries
contributed to vocabulary
mastery is 92.16. and the
remaining 7.84% is determined
by other variables.
18. Conclusion
1. The students’ intensity of using English dictionaries in their
learning English can be drawn from the result of the students’
answer in questionnaire are: (1) they almost often using English
dictionaries into their learning activities (2) By using dictionaries
made increase their vocabulary knowledge (3) they have good
motivations to use English dictionaries it is showed that their
intensity of using English dictionary from in the strong - very strong
level.
2. The result of students’ vocabulary mastery can be drawn from
their answer in vocabulary tests are: (1) based on the result of
question they have answered completely (2) their vocabulary
knowledge showed from the result.
3. The students’ intensity of using English dictionaries related to
their vocabulary mastery in this research has positive correlation.
The obtained results that t count > t table or 14.91 > 2.042. In briefly.
The hypothesis stated previously is accepted.
