1. One of the main tools I used when editing my music video was
the razor tool. I used this tool to create jump cuts and separate
various clips. An example of this is at the end when the Boy turns
into an Alien. Due to the mask taking a lot of time to put on we
needed to cut out a lot of time in between the preparation of the
mask.
2. Another prime tool I used when editing was the very
important editing window. By placing my clips into the
editing window I was able to play that singular clip and
look at when I wanted the clip to start and end. This
was achieved by setting the in and out points on the
clips. I used this technique for the majority of my clips
apart from the cross cuts.
3. At certain points in the video I needed scenes to fade
in and out in order to signify certain things such as
the Boy fainting,Time passing etc.To do this I
browsed the effects tab and used dip to black and
dip to white at certain intervals throughout the
video. I then went into the effect controls window to
adjust the timing and
length of the effects. For
example the beginning
fade was rather short
compared to the fade of
the time passing which is
much longer.The
fainting part of the video
also had a quick paced fade to white. Another effect also used
was a page peel and wipe when the newsflash of the Alien
invasions were discovered by the Boy and his Friend.
4. To up the pace of certain comedic parts throughout the
music video I adjusted clips using the speed/duration. An
example of this is the beginning of the video when the
Boy awakes from being beamed and is hyped up. By
adjusting the pace to a higher rate the scene was speedy
and punchy. It also helped emphasise the
Boys energy that he has been given from
The beam.
5. Not only did I use tools in order to create my music video
interesting but I also needed to adjust the clips and
music to make sure they were in time with each other.
For example whenever the chorus came on I wanted the
video to show the performance element. Therefore I
needed to make sure that the narrative was explained
well enough whilst at the same time sharing Narrative
and Performance equally. As well as this there was a
huge 43 second gap in which the song built up and
down. I felt including narrative in this part of the song
dragged the narrative on and would have lost the
interest of the viewer. Therefore by using the razor tool I
cut a chunk out of the song, between the end of the
second to last chorus, up to near the end of the song. By
precisely editing the song I managed to keep the video
interesting and the song edits unnoticed.
