Trailer
The trailer of the descent does notincludeany of the backstory about
the film as that is the less interesting partof the film and it doesnot
wantto show this as it will bore the audienceand make them think it
is a terrible film. In the trailer it buildsup the suspenseby saying the
fears step by step and not showing the action and horror till the end
this is so it makes you watch it to the end and not half way through.
They don’tshow much action as they blur the fight scene so you only
see the crawler for a split second. It makes uslook like a monster
survivalfilm because as it shows the monstersand killing them with
peoplecoming outof blood poolsnot showingtoo muchhorror this
is the reason it looks like monster survival. The graphics in the trailer
sort of a narrativeand tell you what is happeningfor example it tells
you what is happeningto the girls by showing the wordsof;
claustrophobia and hallucination or the text saying ‘best thriller since
alien.’ This makespeoplewant to watch the film because they
would’veliked alien and now wantto see something as good as it.
Heartbeat has been edited to make it faster than usualthis also builds
up suspenseas you get further into the trailer it gets faster. The slow
dialoguesand text builds up slow buildingup urgency wantingit to
go faster to see what is gong to happen next. In the trailer there is a
lot of movementin the trailer when it showsthe fighting scenes
when we see the crawler come from behind them in the night vision
camera not muchof the scene is properly focused and issped up
while the scene has been played.
2. Poster
The poster shows the feeling the character in the bottom right and as
we can see she has blood above her eye and lip this shows us there is
bloody action or at least a death scene. Wecan see there is light
coming from the sky that illuminatesher face and shows us there is a
way out somewhere…but only a small amountthe rest of the
background is dark and gives usa senseshe is lost and lookingfor
hope or a way out of where she is. Her eyesshow us she is looking
around for a way outor if something is coming. In the top left you can
see the crawlers face which showsyou what they are runningfrom
before the film has come out.
Billboard
The billboard is very similar to the poster other than they have
adapted the space and the darknessin the picture. The title of the
movieas been moved to the side of the face and enlarged the text sixe
with other added text under the title. The face in the light is also clear
and you can seethe colour has changed a little.
CampaignChange
There was a campaign change duringthe descent after the 77 attacks.
Unfortunately for the makers of the descent the bomb that was
attacked in London had a descentposter on the side and as people
are trapped underground in thefilm as well as the peoplein the
3. London undergroundbeingtrapped. To show respect they changed
the poster to something else so it didn’tremind them of this disaster.
Website
The website shows usthe new image after the change. With the name
of the film and the slogan ‘scream your last breath’ with the date of
the release of the film in cinemas and the image of the DVD case
telling usit is out now. It also gives us optionsto download the film,
see the cast, trailer etc. It also tells us small pieces of company
information like the studiosthat brought you saw and hostel as well
as the companieswho wereinvolved in filming. Also gives us an age
restriction to viewersunder the age and to inform uswho can watch
this.
