Al is a popular college student who is kidnapped and held captive by Lenny, an outcast classmate. Lenny claims Al was cruel to him and voices in his head are telling him to kill Al. As Al tries to understand why he's been taken, the film flashes back to reveal moments where Al may not have been as nice as he seemed. The film will take place in the college setting and a dark room where Al is held, using lighting, music and some black and white scenes to build mystery, drama and tension as Al's fate remains unknown. The target audience is niche indie fans, young adults and teenagers who will engage with the dark themes and college setting.
2. OVERVIEW - FILMS NARRATIVE
• Opening shot shows the main character in his day to day life. His name is
Al; the average teenage boy. He is confident and outgoing as we follow him
around college he is presented as likeable, until out of nowhere he is
knocked out.
• He then wakes up in a dark room confused tied to his chair – a bright light
shining upon him. A voice emerges from the dark naming Al as cruel –
claiming it was Al who made his life hell.
• The figure in the dark emerges showing to be outcast Lenny – stating he
can’t decide whether he should listen to the voices saying to kill Al or
whether to let him go before he does anything stupid – he then recalls the
moments that led to all of this as the audience learn Al may not have been
so kind as they originally thought.
3. CHARACTERS
• Al – The main character in the film – is a popular and confident
teenager; who can seem nice but not perfect as we learn through out
the film.
• Lenny is a mysterious and alternative character. Who from the outset
is obviously someone who has many mental issues and is unstable, as
he becomes unpredictable as his moods change.
4. THE FILM’S WORLD & STYLE
• Taking place primarily in the school/college setting as well as an unknown dark
blacked out room, the atmosphere is mostly dark throughout complimenting to
the setting of the black room – the atmosphere outside lighter as it is the safe
and known to Al.
• The genre will be mystery drama/thriller, lowkey lighting used in dark scenes to
show the mystery aspect and dark mood as we follow Al’s fate.
• Sound will be used effectively to help give depth to the films – help contribute to
the mood and emotions, as in the outside when Al is getting by his day it will be
upbeat helping the contrast between the dark music that create suspense and
tension in the scenes he is a hostage.
• I intend on experimenting with black and white scenes at times throughout the
film. Giving the colors the dullness in the bright outside scenes to show though
may all look fine and happy not all is – the black and white showing this
underlying darkness that follows.
5. TARGET AUDIENCE
• This would be aimed at a niche perhaps more indie audience – as it is
low budget and not very good film , but has aspects of classic films in
which takes on the twisted mystery with a demented character.
• This would appeal more so towards young adults and teenagers who
would enjoy the dark theme and even relate to the setting of college
having been there in a similar time.
