2. INTRO
In this presentation I am going to talk about the generic
conventions in my film openings. We are going to try to stick with
the stereotypical conventions of an action/spy film as much as we
can.
3. CHARACTER
In our film openings the characters are based on Prop's 8
character functions. Them being:
• The Hero- Li is the hero in this film opening as he
manages to escape from captivity. Li behaves
courageously as he is prepared to fight back. This can be
shown in the last scene
• The Heroine- Rosaline is our heroine because she is
brave enough to face her torture and wont give any
information to the antagonist.
• The Villian- the antagonist is an evil dark character who
is capable of hurting others in order to get his own way.
He can only hurt Rosaline and in effect will do anything to
divulge information from her even if it means that he has
to kill her in the process
These character functions are the most common type in an
action film.
4. LIGHTING
The lighting in our film opening will be low key lighting as it creates
enigma and presents the connotations of evil. There will be mid key
lighting for the interrogation scene as a bright light will be shone on
Rosaline's face to connote innocence. We will be able to achieve this by
using the lamp equipment that is used in photography so we can create this
affect. The low key lighting will be used in the chase scene to create
mystery and to connote danger
5. ACTORS
The actors will be the following:
• Rosaline- Amy-Ann Edwards
• Antagonist- Joe Ellis Tyler
• Li- Callum Dowse
• The reason we have chosen these actors is because we believe
that they would be best suited to the roles above.
6. MAKEUP
The make up that we are going to use are:
• Cuts and blood- this will be used to show that
Rosaline has been punched and kicked around
for a while
• Bruises- some will look older than a day to show
that Rosaline has been under interrogation for a
few days
• Grass stains- this will be used to connote
struggle and falling over. This will be part of Li’s
Makeup as well as mud Stains
7. PROPS
The props that we are going to use are as follows:
• Chair – to tie Rosaline to in order that she cannot escape
• Rope – to restrain Rosaline from moving anywhere
• Knife – to stab Rosaline to cause her pain so that she tells the
antagonist who she is and why they are investigating
• Backpack- this has fallen from a plane to help Li to escape and
fight
• Gun- this is in the backpack to ensure that Li is able to escape
effectively
8. SOUND
There will be non diegetic music to make the atmosphere feel
tense and would keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
The non diegetic music will be dark, evil, fast paced and
mysterious.
The diegetic music will again create suspense and will add to the
tension.
9. CONCLUSION
In conclusion if we include all the typical conventions in an action
film then I believe our film opening will appeal to our target
audience. I also think if we apply a lot of effort to make sure that it
does not look like a cheap, undesirable film it will work well.
