2. ● The distributor of the film is shown at the
beginning of the trailer. 'Dimension
Films' is a major American film
production and distribution studio. This
distribution company has been involved
in the distribution of a number of previous
successful films and therefore is a
positive aspect to show and attract the
audience.
● “In Sin City” gives an idea of the location
as the camera pans through a busy city
setting with the non-diegetic music
beginning and the tension starting to
build. The non-diegetic music then builds
suspense and suggests that many
dramatic events are going to follow.
● “There is a shaky truce” suggests that
there is some form of conflict and
confirms the idea that action is about to
take place because of this rivalry. The
writing is in a comic style and font as the
film is based on the graphic novel series
by Frank Miller and this therefore makes a
link between the two products.
3. ● The group of men look strong and powerful
as they march forward. The weapons they
hold and the protective uniform suggests
that they are some form of law enforcement.
However, the stern look on the leaders face
could perhaps show that the law
enforcement is corrupt in some way.
● The black and white used for the film
portrays the idea that it is a fantasy which
again makes a connection with the film
being based on the graphic novels.
● The close up shot of the man as he points
a gun out of the car window again shows
action and conflict and teases the audience
as they will begin to wonder what the
cause of the conflict is and who exactly it
involves.
● The deep voices from the male characters
are included with key parts of dialogue
from the film which help to tell the story of
'Sin City' and provide some explanation of
the conflict. The explosions and car
chases add to the excitement which is
usually included in an action thriller, these
elements help to attract and persuade the
audience to see the film.
4. ● Showing the 'stars' who feature in the film
is important as it can sometimes be a
factor which will persuade an audience to
see a film. This strong cast with many
recognisable names may persuade many
people that the film is worth going to see.
● The title of the film 'Sin City' is not
shown until near the end of the
trailer as the action featured
throughout should make them want
to stay until the end of the trailer to
find out the name of the film and
also it keeps them engaged until
the very end.
● Showing the release date at the
very end of the trailer ensures that
this is the last thing that the
audience remember and therefore it
should excite them about going to
see the film when it comes out. If
the audience is interested about the
film throughout the trailer then not
showing the release date until the
end makes sure that their attention
is kept throughout.
