A trailer is a video based advertisement, that is used to advertise people to go watch the full
movie. iIt tells the audience what the film is about and it gives people an idea of what the
film is about and what genre it is. A trailer is an example of advertisement for a film that will
give people either excitement or months to decide if they want to see it in cinemas. A trailer
has a number of shots from the film. The most exciting scenes are usually in the trailer
because if they show the boring shots then the trailer won’t look good and people won’t
watch it. They show the most important part that shows what the filmis all about but they
don’t want to ruin it too much because and spoil what’s going to happen. A trailer is around
2 minutes and 30 seconds which is enough to show. Trailers are important because it’s a
way to attract the audience before the release of the film. It’s to make the audience aware.
Some trailers have age certification it’s really important to have a certain age set for the
trailer because it would mean its only suitable for that age and above. Kong skull island is a
12A it’s a film based on an ape that fights to protect himself but he just wants peace which
is what it seems and in the old one he speaks to the girl and protects her which shows that
he isn’t bad. Most films have an age certification because some films that have swearing or
sexual videos then it’s usually either 15 or 18. With 12A films you must be 12 or older to go
and see them, unless you have an adult with you. It is up to that grown-up to decide that
you won’t be upset or disturbed by anything you see. Anyone can watch the trailer,
sometimes the trailers get released too early people then have to wait so long and get
bored of it and then it becomes less popular.Movies should be rated because ratings give
you guidelines for what age group would most likely enjoy the movie,so you wouldn't waste
money on a movie for five year olds. Also if movie weren't rated little kids would be
watching movies with bad words in them such as cuss words. The trailer is unconventional
because it shows more action than the credits.
I think the trailer had the right amount of detail for a trailer i think it showed the ape too
much and gave away too much of the action. But for the audience they need to see the best
bit to be persuaded to watch it. They show very quick shots of the best bit to make the
audience think the best but the trailers aren't usually the best as the film and trailers just
make it look good to get money and get good reviews.
In the UK it’s not shown unless it has an age rating 0f 18. In america there are both red and
green band trailers. When watching a filmthe trailers will be connected with the age group
that is suitable for the audience.
2. Social media
A lot of social media give out information on new films coming out which is how they give
the trailer out to the audience for them to watch the trailer and decide if they want to
watch it and if it’s suitable for them. Social media is used to find everything as it has
everything and it has changed this world on how easy it is to find anything using social
media.
3. Social media such as facebook, twitter, snapchat and instagramare sometimes shown at the
end of the trailer, this is helpful for people so they can go to these social media accounts
and find information for the movie they want to watch and find information about when it
comes out and what age it is. In the rings trailer the social media is shown at the end
because they give a website at the end. This is helpful for the audience because it lets them
see information about the trailer and more detail about the film. It doesn't show twitter or
facebook etc because it’s obvious that they will be all around social media. In the kong
trailer it also shows a website to find
fore information about the cast and
about when it comes out and more
detail about the film. It doesn't
show any type of social media just
like the rings because they know
that people know it’s all over social
media because whenever new films
come out that have already been
out before then they know from
the past of how many fans they
have. In the old trailer there's
more social media shown which
shows that this will follow on to
the new kong.
4. The title is in big bold writing, capital letters,
sharp edges and it has some sort of stone effect.
A lot of action films have the same introduction
fast, big writing and because it’s a stone effect it
shows it’s an outside film in the jungle or a forest.
By seeing just the title people would straight away
know it’s an action film. It will straight away tell
the audience what the genre is and get ideas of
what it’s about. The title has sharp edges and its
2D, this shows the audience that it has fighting in
it and it involves fighting. The smoke when the
title appears shows that fire is involved and
perhaps bombs or because it’s really hot so it
shows orange and red because it’s a colour that
represents hot. For the Rings the title has thin
letters and small letters with a circle around it
becuase its called rings and that’s what it
represents. The writing isn’t very neat because it’s
meant to show that it’s about a young audience. If
you watched the filmyou would understand why the circle is there.
In kong it says this march which tells the audience the release date and when it will come
out in cinemas for people to watch. It shows it comes out on the 9th March. In 1933 the first
kong came out in 1933. The release date is important for the audience to look for
information about the film before
they watch it. In Rings the release
date is shown that it’s on the 28th of
october. Which shows that it’s a scary
film because it’s very close to
halloween so it represents it’s scary
and this film has come out before on
halloween because there's more of
an audience as everyone knows this
month is the scary halloween month a lot of scary films come out in october and november
to make more money and get more of an audience.
If there are credits in a trailer its conventional because it shows the audience what the
movie is. If the producers are the same producers as another massive action film that was
really good it would mean that they will make this good so the credits are important to
5. watch out the cast and producers in the film. Credits are usually to show the characters and
to show the audience who each character is and their names in the filmand in real life. The
Kong trailer doesn’t show any credits which means its unconventional, it only shows the
distributor and the logo. In the Rings
trailer at the end there are some credits
for a few seconds it’s an unconventional
trailer because there isn’t much credits
compared to other trailers where they
show more credits. Credits are really
important to tell the audience who was
playing what but some people don’t take
enough notice to it. James Wan is the
producer and he has done many filmso
it shows the audience that he is a well
known man that knows how to make a
film.
Logos are usually at the end of trailers to
show the production company. These
people help make the movie happen and
help with some elements such as who
the target audience is at. If the audience
know who the production company is
and they know them from other really
good films they will think that this film
will be a good film. The rings logo is
paramount pictures which is one of the
biggest logo and is in many amazing films. As the rings is shown as a circle instead of the
stars around the paramount pictures it’s changed to a dark circle flashing to show that the
film has started and the film goes
through paramount pictures and starts
straight away. The background on the
mountain goes dark which represents
scary it’s a blue colour but they can’t
make it too dark otherwise they
wouldn’t be able to see the logo.
The Kong skull island trailer shows the
logo differently, it’s not show like any
film would it’s got 3 logo’s Warner Brother, legendary Tencent Pictures.
6. The logo is shown at the beginning of
the actual filmwhen they watch
something on a projector it starts with
showing the logo’s very quick which
then shows the next scene of the
soldiers i think it’s very clever the way
they do it like this because it’s not like any other filmit’s a new way of showing it. The
reason why they use a projector is because it represents that its an old filmthat they are
trying to make it as the first kong in 1933. Projectors are old fashion and were made in 1895
which is really old and they are using them to show its an old fashion film.
Some trailers show the age restriction at the beginning of the trailer to tell the audience
what the age is to come to cinemas and watch the film. 12A is for 12 and older but if you
have an adult with you, you can watch it with your parents. PG is for any age which means it
doesn’t have swearing and its suitable for young children. No restriction would mean that
it’s for anyone and any age can
watch it. But trailers have no
restriction so anyone can watch it
but by watching the trailer you
would have an idea of what the age
restriction is. If the age restriction
hasn’t been released yet it means
they're still working out who they
are targeting the audience at. If the
age restriction is greenband it
means all audience can watch the
trailer as it’s suitable for them to
watch the trailer but may not be
the film. A redband background is
only for people 18 and over to
watch the trailer but that’s only
shown in america. The greenband
is suitable for 12 years old and
older no one younger can watch the movie but the trailer is suitable for any age.
Music is extremely important in trailers because it makes the trailer work. Usually trailers
use non diegetic and diegetic sound or synchronous sound and asynchronous sound. The
sounds in the trailers are always part of the filmunless it’s a teaser trailer. Without music
the trailer wouldn’t be very good it wouldn't work very well with the cuts especially for an
action film as it’s very quick cuts. Without sound the audience wouldn’t be able to hear
7. what the characters are saying and you wouldn't be able to hear the background effect of
the action.
In the Kong trailer there is a song at the beginning of the trailer called bad moon rising the
music is used for 70s as that's what the film is trying to make it seem like or even earlier.
The song is for the soldiers to
wake up feel strong and ready to
go out to war and start a new
fresh day. Non Diegetic is used
when the helicopters are flying
over the jungle and the song is
being played because it shows the
audience and its incidental music
and it’s to make the audience feel
the same way.
The audience can see that the helicopter crashed because it was caught by something in the
air and it went from music to silence meaning that’s when the action is about to start. It
gives the audience notice of when it’s about to get dangerous. This makes the audience feel
surprised and they have more of an idea of what will happen next but not guaranteed. The
sound of the helicopter is diegetic sound because of the sudden silence and the helicopter
noise is going down because it’s crashed.
